if assad continues to have unlimited air power and artillery, that's a hard battle to win against simple arms. >> senator, it does sound to me that you do believe some way, somehow, either u.s. directed or u.s. executed, that air strips in syria need to be taken out because iran brings in supplies that way. you think perhaps you ought to be able to ground bashar al assad's air weapons and perhaps a safe zone in northern syria, all of which a lot of folks say should happen. it sounds to me as though you are for those things. >> well, i'm certainly for giving the vetted, moderate elements of the syrian opposition the wherewithal to have a fighting chance to lead us to a better political solution than we are today. and to do that expeditiously.
