can you explain why there's no national interest in afghanistan? why did we have troops there for 20 years if there's no national interest? >> we had a significant in being afghanistan to our national security 20 years ago. you heard the president talk about this. the goal was to defeat al qaeda and prevent al qaeda from launching attacks. we did that and a whole heck of a lot more over 20 years. just progress in afghanistan. the president decided it was time to end this conflict and there was really only two choices. after may 1st, we could come under attack by the taliban. we had not since the agreement had been signed.
