During an active shooter standoff. Officer j. J. Jefferson and officer john painter lost their lives in this shooting. One was the best man at the other mans wedding this year. Same day in new york city, an off Duty Police Officer was shot by two suspects who tried to rob him while he was on his way to work. Were told the officer is in stable condition. It happened on the eve of the funeral for 27yearold nypd officer wilbert mora, who was killed along with his colleague during an ambush almost two weeks ago. In texas, at the emotional funeral for a deputy shot and killed during a traffic stop, officials called the judicial system broken. This has to stop. Those in authority who were coddling the criminals and enabling this behavior have culpability just as those who are pulling the trigger. We cannot continue to do our jobs effectively when the rest of the judicial system is broken. People need to be held accountable because enough is enough. There is no other way to say it. Were tired. Were tired. Were tired physically. And were tired emotionally. This is a fight between good and evil. And we will not let evil prevail. Here in the past two weeks, officers shot in houston and st. Louis, milwaukee, new york, and now in virginia. And this is the man who is accused of killing those two Campus Officers in bridgewater, virginia. Hes been charged with two Felony Counts of Capital Murder as well as two other felonies. The Bridgewater College president says the two officers who lost their lives were beloved by students, faculty and staff. And joining us now, Bridgewater College student alex holloman, he was in the area of the shooting when it took place. Im so sorry, im so sorry for what your School Community is going through and i really appreciate you being with us this morning to tell us about this and to honor these police officers. Can you tell us what you experienced, what you saw . Yeah. Thanks for having me on. So we were just going about our business as usual, last tuesday afternoon, and all of a sudden we hear in our classroom eight shots rang out and everybody immediately knows, even someone like myself, who doesnt have much experience with firearms, we know it is a gunshot, and we all get on the ground, we all covering our heads, couple of kids get in the way of the door, to block it, if someone tried to open it. Professors telling everyone to get down, telling theyre calling 911, telling the operators whats going on. We hear someone we come to realize one officer was shot, screaming in pain for several moments after the shots had rang out. And then for several very intense minutes we sheltered in place there, not sure what was going to happen, we all knew the game, though. School shooting, playbook has been written before, but then gradually officers began to arrive at the scene and we started to look out of the windows and see the officers and our professor told us he was initially the first one to see it, he said, dont look out there if youre not going to handle it. So, yeah, they covered the bodies with sheets, though, but we could see from our vantage point, we could see the officers down. Did you know the officers . Did your fellow students know these officers . Well, everyone had interacted with these people on some level because they were probably the most friendly people on campus. Every time you saw them, they said hi to you, greet you. And anyone i didnt get to know them much more extensively than that. People who did confirmed that, you know, these are great people, and no one no one i know can say a bad word about them. Even some people who got caught with drug or alcohol and got charged by them say, the next week theyre back in the cafeteria, joking with each other and teasing each other. These are outstanding individuals and pillars of our community. I know they were responding to this call of a suspicious man. So they intercepted obviously a dangerous person who did not get to the students, alex. Yeah. That was that is something that is gradually sinking in on us is that these people potentially sacrificed their lives for ours. So were very grateful for that. Alex, i want to thank you for being with us. And also for telling us about these officers and, you know, just some beautiful stories about what they were to the students at your school. We appreciate it. Alex hulleman. Yes, thank you for having me on. So, big new on the vaccine front for parents of young children, pfizer says it is ready to start vaccinating babies as young as 6 months old. The company says it has reached out to the fda for Emergency Use Authorization. Thats the news here. Pfizer is applying for Emergency Use Authorization here. But according to the Kaiser Family foundation, only three in ten parents of kids under 5 say they will get their child vaccinated right away. Joining us now is dr. Ashish jha, dean of the Brown University school of public health. Vaccines only work if you take them, dr. Jha. Yeah. Good morning, and thank you for having me here. Thats correct. And what we need to do is build up confidence in these vaccines. Were going to want to look at the data to see how well the vaccines are working, how safe they are. I expect them to be exceedingly safe. They have been for other children. But absolutely true were going to have to help parents get comfortable, get confident this is the right thing to do for their kids. Okay, so, look, im the parent ive been long awaiting this vaccine, dr. Jha, i know there are so many people in this category. But you look at the numbers, i have a 3 1 2yearold, youre looking at the dkids who are right under that 5year mark, they didnt see as effective a bump in the trials. Ill tell you personally, im inclined to move forward. My child who is 3 1 2 had covid over christmas, my hope is the vaccine is safe, add that to the fact he has some Natural Immunity now and i hope that puts us somewhere, but we need more answers too. Absolutely. So, first of all, i think there are a lot of parents out there, at least three in ten, maybe more, who are anxious to get their kids under 5 vaccinated. We have always been guided by evidence and data on this stuff. And thats what we got to do again. Im going to look very carefully at the data presented to the fda, the Advisory Committee will look very carefully at this, and first and biggest question is it safe, i expect it to be very safe, we have to see. The second question is how effective is it. And that should really drive the decisionmaking. I expect an authorization, but im not convinced well have one. We will really want to look at the evidence very carefully. It is not a slam dunk and it is not the safety that is an issue so much as data that is effective because there isnt that data, at least not yet. Theyre taking a flyer on the hope it might be proven effective going forward. Dr. Jha, i want to ask you, youre so informative on twitter and you frame things i think in such an understandable way for people. You describe this moment in the pandemic as sort of a rainstorm or a waning rainstorm. What does that mean and how should that impact our behavior . Yeah, so, you know, ive been really puzzled by the fact that we have managed to pull in these very basic Health Measures like mask wearing and testing and vaccinations and i really do think of it as, like, if im going out into a massive thunderstorm and it is bucketing rain, i have an umbrella, but i also wear a raincoat, i wear my rain boots, but obviously if it is drizzling, i sometimes go out with like a small umbrella and not going to put on a big raincoat. Thats how to think about this. When the virus is raging, we should be doing everything we can to slow that down. And protect ourselves. When virus levels get very, very low in the community, perfectly reasonable not to have mask mandates, for people who want to wear a mask, they should wear one. But mandates can get lifted in the moments when Infection Numbers are very low. When youre looking at mandates, universities that are starting to lift certain mandates whether it is vaccines or masks or both, is the timing right on that . Yes, so, first of all, i think Vaccine Mandates milwaukee a make a lot of sense. You get longterm protection. Thats a different thing in my mind. In terms of mask mandates, i wouldnt do it now. Infection numbers are way down, theyre still pretty high compared to historical averages. I would wait a couple more weeks. As long as Infection Numbers get low, and Hospital Capacity is not a problem, as long as deaths start coming down and theyre still pretty high, those are the moments i would use to start pulling back the mask mandates. Dr. Ashish jha, thank you so much for joining us this morning. Great to see you. Thank you. All right, the story that really could up end the National Football league, the former coach of the Miami Dolphins, brian flores, now suing the nfl for racial discrimination. He was called the rosa parks of the nfl. Flores will be with us here live. And brandnew Satellite Images just in to cnn that shows significant military deployments along the ukrainian border. Just in to cnn, Satellite Images appear to show new significant military deployments in belarus, crimea, and western russia. This is happening as russian president Vladimir Putin is blaming the u. S. And nato for the escalating conflict along the ukrainian border. Translator their main task is to contain the development of russia. Ukraine is simply a tool to achieve this goal. They could draw us into some kind of armed conflict, and force their allies in europe to impose the very tough sanctions that are being talked about in the United States today. We were given promises not to push the infrastructure of the nato block to the east one inch. Everyone knows this well. Today we see where nato is located. Poland, romania, the baltic countries. They said one thing, they did another. As people say, they screwed us over. Joining us now is democratic congresswoman mikey sheryl of new jersey. Shes a member of the House Armed Services committee, she also just returned from a trip to ukraine where she was part of a bipartisan delegation to discuss this buildup of Russian Troops along the ukrainian border. Long intro there, congresswoman, but youve been on this important trip we wanted to tell people about. First, though, can you respond to what you heard there from Vladimir Putin basically saying nato has just encroached on russia and he clearly feels justified . Im not sure he truly feels justified because, you know, none of what hes saying really comports with the history or reality. I was a russian Policy Officer when i was in the military and certainly discussing states coming into nato and what nato might look like After The Fall of the berlin wall. And what he is describing simply is not true. We would not tell a sovereign state who they could or could not ally with. And that is the argument of russia, that they should have a sphere of influence, contrary to our beliefs in democracy and sovereign states choosing their path forward and the citizens of that state being able to choose their path forward. It is striking to me to hear this sort of victimhood that putin seems to be putting forward when he has amassed over 100,000 troops on the border of ukraine and seems to think that there should be no response to that. Thats the other thing, congresswoman, is we have these photos from an independent company that shows this buildup of troops, in crimea, in donbas, coming in from belarus as well, and yet the russian position seems to be that we should not believe our eyes. What do you say to that . It is really striking. It kind of harkens back to the way russia used to communicate or the soviet union used to communicate during the cold war. I remember even as a young girl, you know, seeing right through that and thinking this makes no s sense, and certainly thats where we are today. Youre exactly right. You know, 2014, when russia Invaded Crimea and the donbas, that was the First Time Since the end of world war ii that we saw an invasion of a sovereign nation in europe, and attempt to annex territory. So, again, this massing of troops i think is really the aggression that were seeking to address. I would love to find a way to deter russia from moving forward. Ill tell you having just been on the ground in ukraine, seeing the desire of the people there to fight for freedom, i think putin is making a miscalculation and some of what hes talking about now gives me some hope that hes attempting to find a path to walk back from his current aggressive position. Can you tell us more about your trip . You met with the ukrainian president. What did you learn . So, i am a member of the House Armed Services committee, so i joined the Foreign Affairs trip to ukraine with a sense in mind of determining if ukraine felt as if they had the support they needed, militarily, from the u. S. , with weapons, and other means to deter this aggression, and if they were invaded, to fight back against russian aggression, and ill tell you, we started in the we started in brussels, we met with our eu allies and nato, and what struck me was how unified we all were in addressing this aggression from russia. In fact, i think another miscalculation of putins is that he has done more to reignite the transatlantic relationship that had been somewhat frayed in the previous administration. But we are all strongly united. We also went as a bipartisan delegation and i can tell you that as we were overseas, we were all simply supporting the position of americas support of freedom. We met with the ukrainian president and, you know, he said he his people are ready to fight. He certainly does not need United States troops on the ground. They are more than capable, he said, and will defend their democracy and their freedom. All right, democratic congresswoman mikie sherrill, we appreciate you joining us this morning. Thank you. All right, were just two days out from the beijing winter games beginning. The torch relay now under way, scaled back, though, to just three days, as coronavirus cases rise. Ahead of the games, athletes and olympics personnel have been sealed off from the public. Cnns david culver and selina wang take us inside and outside the olympic bubble. Reporter the motto of beijings winter games is together for a shared future. It is a nice sentiment, but daily life in the Chinese Capital is far apart from the olympic enclave within it, and absolutely nothing is shared between the people that inhabit the two worlds. Too great is the risk of omicron for china as it tries to maintain its zero covid policy. In the week leading to january 30th, 237 symptomatic infections were reported. Arrivals testing and the daily screening of games participants registered around 200 positive results. The closed loop system means those Olympic Personnel who are visiting from other countries wont be able to freely wander and check out some of the iconic tourist sites, like this one, the forbidden city. For them, it is truly forbidden. Reporter instead, for athletes, organizers and us journalists inside the closed loop, beijing has become a series of bubbles. Our hotels, the Sporting Venues and places like this media center are as much the city has to offer. There are even literal walls, security, blocking us from freely moving about. Were covid tested every day outside the hotel. Technology takes the place of many lost interactions. Here at the media center, a robot serves our food. And there is a Robot Bartender Mixing and serving our drinks. Only a limited number of Beijingers Have joined our closed loop to look after and transport all the people connected to the games. And they too will need to stay separate from family and friends for weeks, quite a sacrifice, as a Lunar New Year holiday overlaps with the olympics. Happy new year, mama. Reporter as covid has disconnected beijing from the International Event it is hosting, it has also disconnected the people here from the rest of their country. Reporter normally during the Lunar New Year holiday, major cities like beijing, theyre empty. All the folks who live here going back to their home provinces. But this year, because of the outbreaks happening all over china, theyre asking folks to stay put. So you have crowds like this gathering at some of the more popular spots. Crowds that wont get to be there as the medals are contested and won. No Sporting Tickets are on sale, and instead, the government will issue some to a lucky few. Beijing 2022 is a tale of two cities. The hosts reporter and their guests so close, but so far. For cnn, im selina wang inside the olympic closed loop. Reporter and im david culver on the outside. Beijing, china. On the outside. Joining us now on the inside is selina wang. First off, that Robot Bartender, i mean, i want to talk to my bartender, so i have many questions about that. The other question, the fbi is telling athletes, leave your phones at home. Reporter well that Robot Bartender is slower than you would think, but, yes, this fbi concern comes on top of team usa and other countries already warning athletes not to bring their personal phones to bring Burner Devices instead. As a journalist here, i got a burner phone as well, many Media Organizations including cnn have equipped their reporters with these, and in fact the Committee To Protect Journalists has told reporters to assume that even your hotel room is being surveilled. A key concern for athletes and participants is this my 2022 health app. Every day we have to use this, put in our personal Health Details and Cybersecurity Researchers say they have found Security Flaws in it that could leave users data exposed to data breaches. Chinese authorities for their part have dismissed those concerns. Brianna . Thank you so much for that tour. Appreciate it. This morning, a Bombshell Lawsuit with the potential to up end the nfl. The former head coach of the nfls Miami Dolphins brian flores is accusing the league and multiple teams of discrimination. In this lawsuit, he calls the league racially segregated and like a plantation, citing multiple interviews they say were a sham, held just to meet the leagues Diversity Rules and say this is why so few nfl coaches are black. The nfl denies these allegations. So joining us now is brian flores, former head coach of the Miami Dolphins who is suing the nfl and his Attorneys Douglas Wigder and john alectorokas. You know what a huge risk youre taking. There was a lawyer quoted in the New York Times is who says im extremely surprised he would put his career in jeopardy. Does it feel like that to you . I understand the risks. I love coaching football. Im called to coach football. Im gifted to coach football. And i still want to coach. Lets be clear about that. But this is bigger than coaching. This is bigger than me. The numbers speak for themselves as far as the hiring, firing, and the lack of opportunities for minority and blackhead coaches and executives in the National Football league. And we need to change. We need things to change. You know this could cost you your career. So why are you doing it . Like i mentioned before, this isnt about me. And i understand that. This is bigger than me. This is bigger than football. Many have come before and done a lot to create change in this country for people of color. And i just felt like in this instance, you know, it was my turn to step up and be an agent for change and im proud to do that. This is not a new situation in the nfl. The nfl would acknowledge this is not a new situation. This is not a new situation in many ways for you. So what puts you Over The Edge . My kids. That was a big part of this. I look at i have two sons, 8 and 7, a 5yearold daughter. When i look at them, i dont want them to go through some of the things i had to go through. And i know that was the same for people who came before me as well. They were thinking about me. Even though i wasnt i was i wasnt here yet. But that was the big thing and then i just think of all the coaches that, you know, even on my staff, thought about guys on my staff, my previous staff in miami, who i know are more than capable, who are gifted to coach in this league, to lead. I just want them to have the opportunity to stand in front of an owner and have a real opportunity to get one of those jobs and lead a team. Youre look at a coach who is decorated, coming off two winning seasons, hes, you know, obviously held in high regard throughout the league, and look at what hes had to go through. So for a normal coordinator or someone who hasnt been able to shine the way brian has, i mean, hes going through this stuff, cant imagine what they had to go through. Thats part of what hes trying to break down what were trying to change. First backtoback winning seasons for the dolphins since 2003. Won eight of the last nine games. Clearly a team that was on the rise, yet, you got fired. I guess what im getting at is what is the straw that broke the camels back . Was it the situation with the New York Giants . Yeah. That was it. As you know there was a series of Text Messages that led me to believe that i was going on an interview for a job that was already handed to someone else. And, look, im all for, you know, hiring the person you want to hire. I understand that. And i think brian daboll is a great coach. Hes someone i worked with. Hes a great coach. And definitely someone i respect. Let me read through this exchange so people know exactly what were talking about here. This was a Text Exchange you had with Bill Belichick, whom you worked with for years at the new england patriots. He writes you, sounds like you landed, congrats. You write back, did you hear something i didnt hear . Belichick writes, giants . You write back, i interview on thursday. I think i have a shot at it. Belichick writes, got it, i hear from buffalo and the giants you are their guy. Hope it works out if you want to. Then you write, coach, are you talking to brian flores or brian daboll, just making sure . Belichick writes, sorry, i effed this up. I doublechecked and misread the text. I think theyre naming daboll. Im sorry about that. Bill belichick. So belichick is telling you, days before youre even interviewing for the giants job, that he thinks daboll has it locked up. Yes. And thats thats the thats what were trying to change. What did that feel like . It was humiliating, to be quite honest. There was disbelief, anger. There was, you know, a wave of emotions for a lot of reasons. And i think this is why, you know, we filed the lawsuit. Why did Bill Belichick even know about who is getting the job . Why is he talking to the giants and to the bills . Last i checked he was with the patriots. What is his involvement getting to know who is going to land the Head Coaching position . And so, you know, brians a really modest person. Hes stepping up because, you know, this has been talked about for so long. There is only one blackhead coach. There are no black owners, there are very few offensive and defensive coordinators who are black. Very few quarterback coaches or special teams coaches who are black. And brian is stepping up, we believe other people are going to follow. And were going to proceed as a class action in this case. I want to get to the idea of will other people follow and are they following. Just so people know, 70 of the players in the nfl are black. 70 . And there is currently one black head coach and a lower number than it was 20 years ago, so the number is going down, not up. Just so people know that. So, belichick tells you the job is going to daboll, a white coach. You think at this point, what, the only reason the giants are interviewing me is because they have to . Yeah. The rooney rule. Thats the first thing that came to my mind. But, you know, my other emotions were why arent i getting a real opportunity here . What did it feel like when you actually were sitting down for the interview with them, after belichick told you it was basically a done deal . Again, another waves of emotions for me. Is this real . Am i wasting my time . But, look, i just put my best foot forward. Thats what ive always done. Any time ive dealt with a situation, dealing with adversity or, look, ive had a ive been a long shot, my entire life, i figure i put my best foot forward. And interview to the best of my ability. But there was also this sliver of hope that i had that i guess thats maybe im naive to the fact of whats really what really goes on in the behind the scenes. A sliver of hope. Did belichick know you were filing this lawsuit, you were going to make his text public . No, he did not. Have you talked to him since . I have not. Sliver of hope. And youve been through this, you say in this lawsuit, in a way before with the Denver Broncos, where you say that you are asked to interview, but you were made to feel during the time that the interview was somehow not real. How so . Well, i show up it the interview, i think 8 30 a. M. Interview, theyre late, which is unusual for this part this process. And, look, i know im not alone in this, you are the only i believe i was the only minority interview. And just the entire process doesnt feel like youre an actual candidate. And thats unfortunate. The rooney rule states for head coach vacancies, they have to interview two minority candidates. But you felt that you were there as a number. They werent taking you seriously. They showed up late, you thought maybe they had been drinking the night before, just so people know, the Denver Broncos deny this, they say the allegations from flores directed toward the broncos are blatantly false, they say they showed up on time, et cetera. The giants as you were talking about them, they said we interviewed an impressive and Diverse Group of candidates. The fact of the matter is brian was in the conversation to be the head coach until the 11th hour. We hired can i Say Something about the giants comment. You read it. They dont deny that the job had already been given to brian daboll prior to the interview of brian flores. So, i mean, i think thats a telling admission right there. And were talking about a mistaken text message, we know these things happen, brian has been through it. But think about the fact that this is a mistaken text message from Bill Belichick, otherwise brian would have been in there, with the understanding of that there is a good chance he would be treated as a rooney rule interview, but he knew. And this was all uncovered from a mistake and now it is out in the open and brian, with all the risk and knowing that hes landing himself to a bigger cause, hes here to change whats been going on for the History Of The Nfl and society at large. Again, i cant imagine what it must have felt like to get that text message from belichick. Youre talking about your kids and doing this for them. Did you tell your kids . How would you explain that to your kids . My wife and i, we had conversations with them. Look, theyre older now. They understand kind of whats going on as far as with miami and this situation as well. And that conversation went just like this. Look, guys, there is only one black head coach in the National Football league. As they all know, they know there is a lot of black players in the league, and we just feel like its unfair. And, you know, dad may never coach again. Hes taking that risk. But hes doing it so that you guys dont deal with some of the things that him and his peers are dealing with now. George martin, New York Giants great, was on the show last hour, and said that you are the rosa parks of the nfl. Yeah. How does that feel . Humbling. But that gives me more confidence that we made the right decision here. And that we need to continue to fight for that change. Can i just say im going to be optimistic here. Here we are on the second day of black history month. Im going to be optimistic and say this is a great opportunity for the nfl to be a leader, to be a leader in america, to make the changes. The rooney rule doesnt work. Everyone knows that. We have one head black coach, the rooney rule started, we had more. It doesnt work. Implement policies. Acknowledge their fault, recognize whats happened to brian, move forward, set an example, not only for the nfl, but lets set an example for the rest of america, lets come together at this time, i see this as an opportunity for them, rather than legal denials and things, lets move forward. You make that case, you see what happened to colin kaepernick. Colin kaepernick, took a stand, never played again in the nfl. So how optimistic are you there will be a change . Well, look, im for anyone who is whose goal is to create change. And, you know, i back that. I understand the risks. And i want to coach. Im gifted to coach. I love coaching. Im passionate about it. And im hopeful that i will coach again. You had interviews in the last two days with the texans and the saints. So thats still out there. Look, i want you to hang on for a second if you will. I have a loot t more to ask you. There is an explosive claim where you say the owner of the dolphins offered to pay you to lose. Were going to discuss that when we come back. Kim is now demonstrating her congestion. Save it slimeball. Ive upgraded to mucinex. We still have 12 hours to australia. Mucinex lasts 12 hours, so im good. Were back with brian flores, the former head coach of the Miami Dolphins who is suing the nfl and multiple teams for discrimination, his attorneys are also here with us. Brian, in this suit, among other things, you allege that stephen ross, who is the owner of the Miami Dolphins, back in 2019, because he wanted the dolphins to get a higher draft pick, you allege he wanted the dolphins to lose and he offered to pay you 100,000 for each game you lost . Yeah. And it is an unfortunate situation for a number of reasons. One, this game has done the game of football has done a lot for me personally. My parents are immigrants. They came over to this country and in the 70s looking for the American Dream for their kids. For me and my four brothers. We grew up in the projects in brooklyn, not too far away from here. And the game of football has opened more doors for me than i can i could have ever imagined. So the integrity of the game is of the utmost importance to me. So how did that conversation go . It was really a conversation between myself and the general manager, chris greer, and, you know, like you mentioned, it is, you know, steves upset about that were compromising our Draft Position now because were winning too many games. Did ross, to you, explicitly say to you personally, ill give you 100,000 each game you lose . Yes, yes, he did, absolutely. Thats not something you make up. Im not saying the situation which is in the complaint about the boat where he was put in a Compromising Position to potentially have to run off a vote because there was a player coming he wasnt supposed to meet w the problem becomes in society and the nfl when a black man, you know, has convictions and states a position, hes deemed and portrayed as difficult, and impossible to work with. Hes passionate and moraled and a great coach. I get that. Im just trying to get this conversation, which i think is stunning, im just trying to figure out exactly what ross said to you. I mean there were several conversations about we dont, you know, take a vacation, you know, we dont need to we dont need to win right now. Youre going to keep your job, you signed a contract, things like that. Look, i got a group of men in that locker room i need to look them in the eye and they need to know im helping them reach their potential, were trying to win games, and i was never going to stand for that. And that i would say that strained a lot of the relationships in miami. Hang on one second. Im the lawyer, right. But is it even legal . Have you been contacted by authorities or investigators yet . If an owner offered to pay a coach to lose, how can that even be legal . He didnt listen to the directive, but the attempt at doing it definitely has some legal implications. And so were going to prove that, if this case continues to go, were going to there is going to be corroborating evidence, other witnesses, emails and texts, were confident in that allegation. As brian said, you dont just make that up, right. If hes going to it is a race case, if he makes something up, hes going to say stephen ross called me the n word. Thats what hes going to make up. Hes not going to make up Something Like this. Any contact from investigators or authorities or any legal context yet based on that . Even if they had contact, i wouldnt be able to share that with you. Not to dodge your question, but i wouldnt be able to answer it. You say your refusal yeah. To be paid to lose, and your refusal to allegedly tamper with players when it wasnt allowed by the rules, you think that contributed to you being fired . Absolutely. 100 . I think that strained a lot of the relationships and not necessarily in the building. I implore people to talk to the people in the Miami Dolphins building, the cafeteria people, the security people, the people who work the fields, the people the medical staff, player development, i mean, i think, you know, from a Culture Standpoint and from a Relationship Standpoint i go out of my way to try to make people feel appreciated. And that was certainly the case in im looking forward to hearing those people speak about their relationship. There was an article in one of the florida papers after you were fired saying he was fired because he was uncooperative. What did that sound like to you . Sounded like a smear campaign. Thats what it sounded like. And, you know, the one thing that is i wont say the one thing, but my character, character and integrity is important to me. And having my character attacked, that hurt. More than really more than anything. Can i just say, not only the people that come and support brian, but i want to make a plea, because there are so many other black qualified coaches at all Different Levels in the nfl. And hopefully brian has made a change. They cannot come forward and support and vindicate their rights. Couple of minutes left. Rapid fire here, any other coaches signed up to this lawsuit yet . Not yet, but there will be. Yes, were in contact with people who have reached out to us, expressing similarities which we know exist, and a desire to come on board and follow brians lead. Difficulty in this lawsuit, you acknowledge. First of all, everyone can see this issue exists in the nfl. The nfl acknowledges. The numbers speak for themselves. The difficulty in your suit is proving that coach flores here was fired or is not being hired because of race, correct in. I dont think thats going to be difficult. A basketball metaphor, it is a slam dunk, actually. Dont forget, he was a head coach, he interviewed for a job that was already given to a white comparetor. To prove it was given to daboll and not to coach flores because daboll was what there is so much evidence of discriminatory animus here. We cant get to your point of lets have an analysis and comparison of who was the more qualified candidate because we dont get to that step because the brian wasnt given a fair shake. How can you say someone is more qualified if you give him the job before you even allow him to interview . So, coach, i want to end with you here. Tell me what it felt like for you being a black coach in the nfl. How do you think it was different than if you were white . There are all kinds of statistics in here that the duration for a white coach is 3 1 2 years. For a black coach, 2 1 2 years. That the number of black coaches that have been fired after winning seasons, like, dwarves the number of white coaches that have been fired after winning seasons. How did it feel to you personally . What pressures did you feel . I would say i felt similar pressures that, you know, black people feel in all fields. Not just football. That we had to do more. That we have to be better. That we have to we have to be exceptional just to stay on an even level playing field. And it is in a lot of ways it is unfair. But thats i know im not alone in that feeling. I know that. And, you know, i think were going to get more storyies. I asked them, you know, if its it is hard to step out. It really is. It is hard to do what were doing here. Because, you know, in doing so, you risk doing what you love, which is coaching the game of football. But being a black coach in the National Football league, you know that there is a target, you know, i would say a little bit of a target on you, and you know you have to be better than your counterparts. And these feelings that people feel every day, these tragic feelings that black people are forced to feel every day, this is a reality. And the world needs to wake up, the nfl needs to wake up, Society Needs to wake up and brian lending himself, sacrificing everything for this is an amazing thing and were behind him. Can i ask, again, youre interviewing in the Interview Process with the texans and saints. If you get called after this interview that youre hired, for one of those jobs will you drop the lawsuit . No. No. We need change. And thats what we need. We need change. This isnt about this is about changing the Hiring Practices of the National Football league. And thats what the lawsuit is about. But, you know, i want to coach football. Thats what im called to do. In your heart of hearts do you think youll get one of these jobs . Im hopeful. I am. Im hopeful. And thats the hope. Thats all i need. And if given the opportunity, you know, ill always do my best to coach guys up and, you know, try to help them become the best versions of themselves. Thats what coaching is about. And brian is stepping out now may give other black candidates a real shot at filling some of these other vacancies. So were not going to say that solves anything. That would just be masking the smell, so to speak, but were hoping that there is even an immediate effect where people are taken seriously in these vacancies. I want to let you guys go here. I know you have a busy day. One year, five years, ten years from now, it turns out i hope it doesnt go like this, but if it turns out you coached your last nfl football game, how would you feel . If there is change, it will be worth it. Coach flores, counselors, i appreciate you being with us. Please keep us posted. This is not going to be quick. It is not going to be easy. And it is the beginning of what could be a long and i think revealing process. Appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. Brianna . We have Breaking News, President Biden has formally approved additional deployment to eastern europe. Deployments are expected it begin here in the coming days and Cnns Barbara Starr is breaking this news for us and has the details. Barbara, what can you tell us . Because so many troops, thousands of troops here in the u. S. Were on heightened alert. Good morning, brianna. The first sign of this is the pentagon has now called an unusual Morning Press Conference for 10 00 a. M. Here in washington. And what we expect to learn in just about an hour is that thousands of additional troops, both here in the United States and u. S. Troops already stationed in Europemarked For D coming days to eastern europe. The most likely places they will initially go are is poland and romania. Two allies, very nervous about russian aggression on europes eastern flank. These troops are not going to ukraine. President biden ruled that out. But this is another step in the effort to shore up deterrents and reassurance to the european allies in europe in the face of this russian aggression. What are we looking at . Were looking at troops already in europe. They will be able to move very quickly and then they will be the first ones to move east. Thats a easy proposition for them. Other u. S. Troops back here in the United States who routinely serve on a shortnd alert notice to be ready to go, every day of the week they also will be earmarked, were told. Significant, all of this is in addition to the 8500 troops the pentagon previously announced were on a shortened alert status. This is new. These are additional troops that will be going. This is a unilateral effort by the u. S. They will work with the countries over there. The uk doing something similar. Right now, doesnt look like nato is anytime soon going to activate that International Response force. So we are seeing the moves by the u. S. To go ahead in advance of any russian move across the border to put more u. S. Troops on that eastern flank. Brianna . Just real quickly, barbara, some are combat capable, though, right . Sure. Lets be clear. These will be army, air force, but very much an effort of reassurance and deterrence, not to encounter russian forces. All right, barbara, thank you so much for that. Our Special Coverage continues right now. This is cnn Breaking News. And good morning, everybody. Im bianna golodryga. Im jim sciutto. Nice to be next to you. Finally.
