Democratic politics and leaders resigning, others facing calls it the same, as even the president of the United States is demanding members of his own party must go. [ crowd chanting ] outrage and tears, and a mans resignation at a Los Angeles City Council Meeting today after a racist conversation by the Council President , two other council mentors, and the labor leader, leaked. The Los Angeles Times published on sunday. At its heart, a profanity filled description of the conduct and temperament of a black child, who is the son of a white gay man, who is also on the city council. At a meeting last october, call the boy, a little monkey, in spanish, and referred to immigrants living in koreatown as short little dark people. They are so ugly. She also made disparaging remarks about jews and armenians. Yesterday, she quit her leadership position, but not the council. She said, i take responsibility for what i said, and there are no excuses for these comments. As a mother, i know better, and i am sorry. I am truly ashamed. Today, martinez announced she will take a leave of absence from the council itself. Nury martinez is the daughter of mexican immigrants in the first latina to hold a powerful counsel position. The Los Angeles Times today described her as a blunt talker, undone by her own words. Also in the meeting, this man, ron herrera, president of one of the areas most powerful labor unions, the Los Angeles County federation of labor. He resigned last night. There are calls for the other two councilmembers, seen here in the meeting, to also resign. They laughed and made wisecracks as martinez spoke of a young boy. They have apologized, but have not given up their positions. The outer recordings of the meetings is too vile, and beneath the broadcast standards of this newscast to play here. But the White House Press secretary weighed on it this afternoon, calling the conversation unacceptable and appalling. The president is glad to see that one of the participants in the conversation has resigned, but they all should. He believes that they all should resign. The language that was used and tolerated during that conversation was unacceptable, and it was appalling. They should all step down. The la City Council Member whose son was of the council vitriol, spoke as emotions flared at the Council Meeting today. My husband and i are both wrought, angry, heartbroken, and sick. For our family and for los angeles. These words, they cut and they stung. I know that i can never really know or comprehend, or feel the weight of the daily relent is racism that my son is going to face. But man, i know the fire that you feel when someone tries to destroy black boy joy. In a statement today, she said this has been one of the most difficult times in my life, and i recognize it is entirely of my own making. She promised to use her leave of absence to have a heartfelt conversation, she said, with her constituents, family, and everyone else. It does not seem like a lot of folks are in a talking mood. Someone may have seen bad actors in office and trusted that would not give up his sources and methods. If there is an injunction, we will see what happens. But if they get this information, the phones, the computers, is that precedent setting for other reporters across the country . It could be. These are facts specific, and is in a precedent for any state outside of nevada. Every state, even the different circuits, the divisions of federal circuit courts that geographically divide our country they have different laws in the ninth circuit versus the seven circuit versus the second circuit. If they do agree to the death penalty, the final decision is in the hands of the judge. The Supreme Court declined to take up a case about whether a fetus is a person entitled to Constitutional Rights. This particular case with out of rhode island. A Catholic Group and two pregnant women try to sue on behalf of the womans unborn fetuses. But the Supreme Court ruled they did not have the legal right to do so. Today, the Baltimore Citys attorney directed her office to drop the charges after a new round of dna testing. She said the late girlfriends shoes, which had never before been tested, contain a mixture of dna, none of which matched syed. She tried to contact the victims family before announcing her office would drop the charges, but the family laura denied that. They say, they learned of the discharges to the news media. The Baltimore City attorney said that syed will need to go through a formal certification process to be fully exonerated. Right now, she said, he is still under house arrest. A woman escaped a mans home on friday, after he held her hostage in a small room in his basement for about a month. There, the documents say, he whiffed and raped her repeatedly. Handcuffed by the wrist and ankles. When she finally broke out, neighbors said she was wearing a trash bag, had duct tape around her neck, along with a metal collar and a padlock. She did not have a lot of clothes on. She had a metal dog collar around her neck, and she could see the marks on her wrist. Reporter the young woman said that haslett, who lives here, was the one who sexually assaulted her and held her against her will in the basement. That morning, she saw a window of opportunity. She said once he left, she flung the door open, let his dog out, and took off. Reporter sierra says her grandma did the right thing. There is a possibility that my grandma got her just in time. A scary scene at a Day Care Center in pennsylvania today. Officials say an apparent Carbon Monoxide leak sent more than two dozen people to the hospital, most of them young children. These are aerial images of the happy Smiles Learning Center in allentown today. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after Officials Say they got a 911 call about an unconscious child. They say when the firefighters got there, send sores on their gear alerted them that there was Carbon Monoxide everywhere. A fire official says they evacuated 25 children and eight day care workers from the building. 27 of them were taken to hospitals, all listed in stable condition. Some had Different Levels of exposure to Carbon Monoxide. It can cause dizziness, headaches, and vomiting. Officials say the Day Care Center did not have Carbon Monoxide detectors. In a Day Care Center an ordinance passed earlier this year requires Day Care Centers to have them by the end of this month.
