121 points and s p declined. 5 and nasdaq advanced. Lots of people rang the register after four sessions of positive action yet we still saw two huge winners emerge. Starbucks up 5. 48 and honeywell up 3. This matters. Im a gigantic believer that a ceo can determine how well the company does by leadership and execution. Pete carroll from the seahawks and Bill Belichick can take their places where no one else has gone. Thats what they have done. These two companies delivered superior quarters, such great quarters that you know to many other in their leagues, you have to sit back and marvel. I sure wouldnt want to compete against these guys. Think of the coach when you consider buying or selling a stock, as you hear later when a call out a couple of suboptimal performers. Lets talk about the game plan for next week starting with the microsoft. The new ceo, i like this guy, in a position to make more changes, more to the cloud and bring out the value of skype and xbox and maybe even take charge for something did at the end with the nokia. He can boost dividends. Were confident this is the quarter they do something bold. I know amy thinks he should. Im betting that way. This is a week where overwhelmed with earnings. Most important of the week only happens four times. We must figure out the context of the earnings. Thats why i like to listen to what the Domestic Companies that know more than i do tell me and thats norfolk southern. I was blown by how strong Union Pacific said business was amazing. Ill be more bullish if they verify a similar outlook. Tuesday is so jam packed. I feel bad for companies reporting, they ought to go to other days. Who can focus and pay attention. Come the morning, ill be focused on 3m caterpillar and dupont and Procter Gamble. The only rival when it komsz to Industrial Revolution dominance. 3m is what i call core holding because of the consistency they bring to the table and ive got to ask after this incredible run, is it enough . Mr. Parker will you deliver . Cat pillers stock tells us which the company will do which is disappoint. Maybe theres opportunity if they disappoint less than people think they will disappoint. Anything is possible the most inconsistent of large cap companies. Listen in dont cost nothing. Dupont and Procter Gamble are special. They want to join the board of directors along with others. I like the people on the slate. On other side, Ellen Coleman opposes. Coleman can put up terrific numbers and i want to hear how the quarter has gone. I dont know if theres a way both can win except if the stock keeps rally, the pepsico managed to reach a compromise with peltz. I like to think there could be promiz for dupont. Procter gamble the tough medicine towards every division. The stocks had a huge run. A see a battle round. Matched by commodity tail winds and more restructure, i do like big dividends and buy back. Tuesday evening, its all apple. The expectations here i know theyve gotten very high. And im going to be all over it like white on rice but as always im admonishing you to do what my Charitable Trust is doing, just own apple. Dont trade it. I think iphone sales will be exceptional. Heres how the game works. Theres always going to be some analyst who will be disappointed. If you dont own already, just counsel you wait to buy it on weakness after print. Wednesday we hear from boeing. Boeing is a company thats been targeted repeatedly in the press for being a loser in the lower oil world because airlines will need to upgrade with more fuel efficient planes. These airlines will buy any planes they can get they are hands on. They dont have enough seats to offer with the low fuel. They want to pack the planes and add more planes. Also by the way, boeings defense business will be turning. Bio gen says something good about the alzheimers project, going to skyrocket. A dogfight to keep very important customers, if they can say theyve gotten big wins and put the chinese situation behind them, 10 more. If not, three points of the downside. Thats not bad risk for a 72 stock. I cant wait to hear what alibaba has to say. This was the top of the line equity. With the stock losing aggressive retail support, its been drifting lower. Ill bet it goes higher. What can ceo bob nugan do he has delivered and delivered more. Maybe its summit new jersey our hometown talking. He lives a couple blocks from me. I would buy either stock on weakness. After the bell amazon and google report. I would have liked it the other way around when stocks of companies that run into the quarter get the quarter news they tend not to be rewarded. Night Charitable Trust owns google, im a tad nervous. This is a quarter where amazon shines with holiday sales. I would rather only the cultists participate. I cant value the darn thing other than dollars spent per share. Friday we hear from chevron. Telling us whats going on with the Mega Products and what it incontinued to do with the gigantic spending budget. Speaking of nervous, my trust owns mastercard and the stocks acted skittish of late. Time and again weve seen how a stock that doesnt participate in the big rallies will most likely falter when earnings are reported. The action concerns me. Three other weeks a year like this one. More money will be made or lost next week than any other time save those other three weeks. May i suggest unless you intensely follow your stocks dont dabble. Take a breather and stop and look and listen except for special cases i outlined. Mike in michigan mike. Caller hello, jim, thank you for taking my call. Is it time to invest in trans ocean, given the drop i is hitting a bottom. What you want to do is not own trans ocean, you want to own royal dutch and this is a chance to upgrade quality. Thats what you look at. Dont go for the fringe you upgrade quality in a bear market. If the bear market is ending you buy the highest quality not the lowest. Bob in new york. Caller good evening. I received a letter explaining a proposal whereby mylon would acquire 78 of the Laboratory Assets and it is meeting scheduled for next week to make the final decision. I recognize the strength of the dollar and volatility some of the foreign currencies may influence the decision at this time. My question is as a myran would you recommend holding, buying more or selling before the annual meeting . I think you can own mylan, its fine. Its an excellent company. I happen to like that segment right now. Its just its right place to be. Theres always rumors there. I used to hate mylan but cant do that anymore. Mark in new hampshire. Caller hey, jim, how are you doing . How about you. Caller getting my snowblower ready your snow snow blower we dont have snow here i like polaris. I used to have a company i invested in and i thought i did my due diligence, rally software symbol raly. Someone was telling me because i was so pro i was so pro box, people saying jim, be careful, i like rally software. Let me look into it for you. I cant opine on this. I have to find out whats going on before i make a decision. Lets go to mark in oregon. Caller booyah professor cramer. Whats up . Caller my question is about honda. Been sinking lower over a year and i would like your thoughts about the stock, whether to hold or sell it . Good competitive dynamic going on with the currency. The but the auto stocks are in a huge funk. Im not going to put you in a auto stock. Theyve been a disaster. So far behind where we want and i dont want to put you in one thinking that anything good is going to happen shortly. Because i dont think it will. Dont dauble. Dont just like kind of flit in and out. This an earnings battlefield. This has danger written all over it because its so hard to keep up. Coming on the tech transformation happening in your car. That was my initial assessment from the largest supermarket of technology with a very Important Solutions business which offers supply Chain Management and Engineering Design and technical sifts. Both the number one distributor of semiconductors and largest distributors of Information Technology hardware and software and services. A costco for tech but offers for services than costco did. Higher than expected revenue thanks to solid results in the business segment. Even though they are taking a hit from the Exchange Rate as sales in europe are dominating week euros they are still managing solid results. The stock jumped more than a buck yesterday and stayed above break even despite pretty hefy selling in the overall market. Lets check in with rick mada welcome back to mad money. Always a pleasure. We hear doom and gloom out of europe. We know the central bank is throwing trillions ofeuros. Talk about that for me. Yes, once again, if you take currency out of the equation, they were up 7 year on year excellent execution as well as taking advantage of new opportunities and new investment weve made and its also about gaining some market share. Executing very very well. Our computer business which has had less success on overall growth for the past few quarters. Our core i. T. Business was in positive territory for first time in a number of quarters. Can we have a takea way, maybe were in the middle of something bigger. A renaissance moment for tech and maybe europe is participating in that . I believe so in our components bids also we have a more concentrated area particularly in germany and our i. T. Business has a big concentration in the u. K. Which is doing better today than the european average as well. I want people to understand ive been around for a while. Theres seasons to tech. This is supposed to be a weak season. And you had seasonably stronger business again, that is highly unusual. I heard about it a little bit from intel and Skywork Solutions but not from a lot of others. What do you use to how do you explain the seasonal strength to our viewers who may not be as sophisticated by the calendar in tech . So the december quarter is typically the big i. T. Quarter in any calendar year. But i would tell you that the resilience of tech spending is in good shape because there are so many innovations taking place and many of those in the data center when it komds to servers, storage, network, converged solutions and new software to find elements of those solutions, that is krif driving a refresh going on in the data center of the 21st century. We were watching the box deal come public and people were saying its overvalued. Were in a storage revolution and also in a revolution in the brains going into homes. Into the computers, little computers going into autos. A lot of that also in the internet of things plays to the strength doesnt it. Were seeing it happening. Were thinking about the connections all the way from the sensors to the servers and the entire spectrum that we avnet can offer. Both from a modular, hord wear and software and services capability. Theres a wealth of opportunity across that total value chain. Were making sure that were intelligently evaluating every one of those to leverage our strengths to the maximum benefit of helping customers sort out all of those options. Also in the Conference Call a lot of people are saying china, decelerating in its growth. You had a flood of orders from asia. Did something just ignite it from the last time we talked . Where is all that Technology Going into . Our core business in asia was very much in our seasonal growth expectations and some of the overaverage came from our participation in very select high volume supply chain engagement in support of our key suppliers and that was the accelerant on top of the overall equation. Our core Asia Business was in line with original expectations on the component side but it was a little weaker for the Second Quarter in a row on our computer side of our business. The last question a lot of the analysts are really stuck on the dollar. I dont blame them. I know your euro forecast is already wrong if it goes that direction. How much do we have to be concerned that this currently thing could make it so avnet can do the greatest youve ever had and doesnt matter because of currency . Jim, i separate the currency impacts into two buckets. Theres one where youre actually producing the goods and prices get more or less expensive depending on whats going on with currency. For us its about the translation, that 100 million euro of sales that used to be 130 million translated is now 112 today. That makes an impact and looks like the growth rate is slowing down. Were trying tok very transparent with our investors to talk about whats going on with constant currency. In our team is making their plan in euros, its hard to be upset with the performance and the translation is going to be what its going to be and well manage accordingly. Were have you astute about hedging transactions when we buy and sell to limit the exposure to the Balance Sheet as well. Its a terrific quarter and stock rebounded for me. You bought back stock at the same time you did that right as always. Rick hamada well done good quarter. Thank you very much jim. You hear about the head winds about the dollar sometimes you have to look how well a business is doing. Im ugsed to a seasonal down turn and didnt get it. I got beyond seasonal strength. What does that say about tech . Business is strong. Stay with mad money. Lately ive been taking heat about the need to hold ceos accountable. I dont care. My critics can pound sand. When i look at the truly who ren dus numbers from United Parcel and mcdonalds knows it has problems, i cant help but wonder when one someone be finally be held accountable for this kind of subpar performance . Why do corporate boards tolerate these mistakes. Keeping the flaling ceos around for more earning seasons. Someone at ups should admit they made a mistake with the new ceo in 2014. Its okay to say that. Got a free pass last year for the holiday snafus. But no free passes for this years errors. Ups stated over and over again many times it would not make the same expensive stock crushing gaffes when it came to the 2014 Holiday Season that it did in 2013. In a way they made good. They didnt make the same mistakes it made worse ones and the stock dropped 11. 32 today. This fine company, its employees and shareholders they deserve better. How many quarters do you have to here mcdonalds say he understands the urgency of the severe downturn and hear his excuses. Mcdonalds is based out of a suburb of chicago and this kind of behavior wouldnt be tolerated to home team chicago bears. I wouldnt care as much asif everyone was getting the same issues. How can mcdonalds do so badly when wendys are doing so well . These are head to head contests. One team making the playoffs and other repeatedly fails to do so. You think that would be toll rated in the nfl . Where former head coach getting into the super bowl last year . How many people in this city in new york are demanding tom could have lynnes head and almost won. Former head coach harbaugh was left for a university of michigan job one step ahead of the posse. We demand a level of excellence in football. We give endless free passes even though they are paid by us. Including my Charitable Trust because they couldnt believe they could be this bad, that they could continue to get it this wrong mea culpa, thats on me. If they believe this performance can be tolerated, heres the bottom line. If we get another hideous quart ir theyll join the mad money hall of shame. If they just left companies, immediately, their results are unacceptable. Find better people. Enough mistakes mcdonalds, ulted parcel. Larry in massachusetts. Caller impeccable interview this morning. Only someone of your stat tour can get a who just lost his unk rl i appreciate that. We have a powerful network and people come to the network and i happen to work for the network but we get the respect as a network. I appreciate the kind words, my partner Carl Quintanilla is incredible. Prices shouldnt be levered to oil. If the reason is not because the etfs are dumping down why is the stock tanking . Okay i just finished a piece talking about accountability of others. I thought this shouldnt be linked to oil. But somehow, Liquified Natural Gas is going in sync with oil. Even though they are doing a great job, my analogy was wrong and it was not able to separate itself even though i think business is great and mr. Butter is doing a great job. That is on me. I should have known better. I should have said they trade together, even if they shouldnt. Ann marie in new york. Caller jim, thanks for taking my call. My question is about Alliance Resource partners what do you think of the company . And then how do i figure out my timing to buy with the price of oil . I dont recommend any coal stocks, nothing having to do with coal. I think that coal is going the way of the dinosaur. And i dont want you affiliated with it or near it or touching the stuff. Forget coal. All right, remember ups and mcdonalds im giving you notice, deliver the results expected or you have some people on the wall of shame. It was a terrible day. It was just terrible. Theres much more ahead, including whats got investors shouting hoo ray for hollywood. The banker to the stars is shooting skyward. Then im looking for opportunity in an under the radar Regional Bank that took a hit after earnings. A look back at the week that was on a fantastic friday edition where we kick up energy on the lightning round. Shes still the one for you. Ive been telling you over and over again, this is a tough moment for interNational Banks, many of the Smaller Banks are doing just fine. Take First Horizon national with more than 200 branches throughout the south and decent sized Capital Markets business. They reported this morning the results were pretty darn solid, 3 earnings beat in part because of robust lending and meaningful expense control. On top of todays news they announced a 20 dividend use. At these levels thats better than 10year treasury. Ive been following First Horizon for a long time. We spoke to the ceo two years ago. Lets look with brian jordan of First Horizon national. Welcome back to mad money. Its great to be back. This was a a quarter where you stop playing defense and turned to offense. How else can you explain 10 loan growth . Weve had a lot of good momentum building over the course of the last couple of years and you saw it jump out in the Balance Sheet this quarter, Great Customer activity calling activity has been consistent steady and solid. Were building a strong Balance Sheet and doing it with Great Customer relationship. It really showed a quarter im extremely proud of it. What kinds of companies are asking for loan small business, construction . Nonresidential what do you got . Were seeing a little bit of everything. One of the strongest growth lines was in our commercial real estate good commercial Real Estate Opportunities and these are things that have been funding up over the last couple of years. Some office and apartment. Were seeing good middle Market Customer borrowing. Were seeing good activity in terms of the acquisition space, people borrowing to finance Revenue Growth and really signs that the economy is starting to pick up. I went to your website and because its your 150th anniversary, i get 151 if i open up a Checking Account for direct deposit. Thats like the old days. Is it working . Do people sign up because they get 151 back . Were seeing new account openings have been very strong were very pleased. We opened Something Like 6,000 new accounts and as you can tell from our website and you may have seen our marking material here and there, we made a big deal out of turning 150 this year and brought a lot of attention to the organize but gave us a of momentum in opening new accounts and attracting customers. I wanted to ask you in april you moved into texas. Theres some texas banks were worried about because big in oil and gas. Are you in a situation because you dont have a lot of entrenched loans to be the banker to come in and really help people try to figure out what they want to buy now that the other guys have fallen down . Right, i think we have a great opportunity in texas as you point out, weve been there nine or ten months. We have a great team. We think well have great opportunities, particularly as we go through an adjustment period where collateral basis get reset and to the extent it has an impact on the economy, were standing there with a fresh wide open Balance Sheet and have the ability to win relationships to book new business and weve got a great calling team. Im optimistic were going to see a lot of momentum in texas. I thought that was shrewdly timed. Youre coming in the right time. Jamie dimon said this week got five or six regulators coming at him from all different directions. It looks like regulators are almost done with First Horizon and lawsuits are almost all behind them. I know you cant tell me what day it will be over. Where do you think you are in the process of settlement. I know its not what you came into the job for. Were in the sixth, almost seventh year of trying to resolve getting out of the mortgage business. We made a lot of progress this year settlement with freddie mac, resolution of litigation. We have one or two major issues still out there. Were making progress but at a frustratingly slow speed. We build our Knowledge Base around the businesses and we think the facts are important to understand and as resolution or discussions move forward, we think were well positioned to continue that dialogue. Do you think theres an advantage now in a country that really has just a handful of banks that are National Banks, to be regarded as a local bank . Is that coming back into fashion . We think its clearly an advantage in our business. Were connected to our communities, we have a lot of local leadership. We encourage our folks to spend a lot of time in the Community Giving back whether it be through giving of their time or money. We participate in a number of Community Activities and we want to be a community bank. We want to provide the Big Bank Products and services but in a way that is community oriented. Because we as an organization cannot cannot be successful without our communities being successful. Were going to keep that Community Orientation and i think its a huge advantage. Totally. The National Banks dont seem to recognize that they are in the town, First Horizon does. I have to tell you, this is great. 10 growth what a great quarter to come on. Congratulations to bryan jordan. Great work. Thank you. Inflection point for a 13 stock. This is when you get in. You dont have to worry about the past. Its the future its brighter. Boy i like the Regional Banks. They are playing offense. Mad money is back after the break. Attention investors vectorvest mobile is here and its free make faster, smarter better trading decisions with ctorvest mobile. Lets go to george in oklahoma. Caller hi clr . My problem with continent resources they took the hedges off at the wrong time i think all of these stocks might have bottomed last week and i know i spoke to the prince and i think its a good chance if more goes down more you want to own a stock with a good yield, royal dutch. That way your bailed and protected by the dividend if im wrong. Going to ryan in new jersey. Caller jim, booyah. I like that energy. Caller my position around 60 on your recommendation now its all the way down to 41 and not yet. I did like the fact that the stock priced a very big deal 8 million shares at 93. 25 and rallied up. The group will be fine. Lets see what biogen has to say. Joe in connecticut. Caller booyah mr. Cramer. How do you feel long time by my kron technology. We have competition going on with the micron. I had bought zinga at 558 and its continually going down its got new manager in there and got a lot of cash. My favorite in the game im reiterating right now, you want to bank with take two if my play there. Paul in illinois. Booyah, jim, go arm my beat navy. My dad was in the army. My question about ck if you want in that tanker game im not necessarily recommending. Be in nordic american yield is 8 . Backed up because a lot of people rent the tankers and selling futures against it for whats known to nat is the one to play. Mark in kentucky, mark . Caller booyah, jim. We enjoy your show very much. Seems like theres a bourbon craze in this world. What do you think about the parent firm of jack daniels and woodfield reserve . I would recommend brown forman since this show began. I do like it. Theres a new king in town and its not bud that stock is acting well its Constellation Brands and then ill recommend brown forman. Its coming in on top of real good booze but i like the corona i may serve up a few this very evening. And that is the conclusion of the lightning round sponsored by t. D. Ameritrade. Dunkin donuts has been a very big disappoint. I say very good. I had a fresh vanilla kcup it wasnt that bad and it was in the dark and i meant to get the 8 00. Whats up . Bill board on i95 this weekend. Philadelphia. Ive got to show you something. Uhoh. Something new. Whats up . Whats up . Then after hearing all of this whining about the head wind the head wind you get on the almost entirely domestic united tellth Conference Call. Did you think i had forgotten you . They are dramas dramas and they are not tragic dramas. They are comic dramas. Making me dizzy, wont be able to do the top. We got some major terrific banking news yesterday when we learned that long time cramer faf City National cny based in los angeles, caters to real high rollers is being bought by royal bank of canada for 5. 4 billion. 93. 80 a share. When was the last time you saw that in a bank deal . This is huge. This is the second largest u. S. Bank acquisition since the financial crisis. Only capital ones of ing was bigger. The number of us banks has been cut in half and i wouldnt be surprised if it gets cut in half again. The largest wont be able to participate. I see the City National deal as a important template for consolidation among the nationals, the stock has given us 36 gain since we last spoke to its terrific ceo Russell Goldsmith. Lets take a closer look with Russell Goldsmith and learn what this takeover by royal bank of canada means for his company and broader industry. Welcome back to mad money. Its great to be with you. Please call me russell. Russell, last time i saw you, what a great run. Much better than any every bank since you were here last. It was very clear you had the most huge fabulous expansion plans, new york i see you everywhere now banker to the stars in new york. Why was this the right time to go . You were going into a National Period of ascendance . Jim, thanks its a great question. We were not looking to sell the bank. We didnt have it up for sale but sometimes youve got to seize the opportunity and when we got approached by rbc, over time dave is very persuasive and we saw the wisdom of his strategy and this was i think, really a perfect, perfect combination. Not just for our shareholders but for our colleagues here in the bank especially for our clients and communities that we serve. The timing is probably sooner than i would have otherwise picked but it was just the right thing for us to do. Let me ask you. Lets be philosophical. The Banking Industry got buy bifurcated. Then there were bankers who stuck by their knitting that they were going to help wealthy people and do better and have Financial Planning and make fortunes bigger or you dont need to get rich twice. You were always embraced the second which was the tortoise versus the hare. I think thats a great way to describe it. City national for 61 years has had very strong values. Focus on the client integrity. Helping entrepreneurs and their families and businesses on the way up. And that proves out over time if you do the right thing for your clients, you build your business client by client brick by brick, reputation word of mouth referrals. It is kind of old fashioned, but really really does work. And this announcement is testament to that. Youre 100 right. Its also an example where you got to pigeonhole these banks and we forget what banks can do is be great advisers to people. It seems this Wealth Management business is a Fabulous Business versus a lot of other stuff say that the government has cracked down on. Well you know Wealth Management is really important. What weve seen over the years with our clients and you do this every night so well on the show people are accumulating wealth in the country and need good advice as to what to do with it. Thats how we built a business over 60 billion and rbc built a business with over 260 billion. Its a logical piece of a private bank and Business Bank. Be there for your clients for the full range of financial services. Meet all of their financial needs, whether they need a mortgagor they need a line of credit in their business or they need to find ways to take that hard earned wealth and preserve it and grow it prudently and appropriately. Thats what weve been doing at City National and well be able to do it even better in combination with rbc here in the United States. Okay, its interesting to say we will because i know you as a fabulous Television Entertainment executive, people probably dont know that about you. Weve been around a long time. You were top in that business. You do jim. It sounds like the third act is going to stay for now with world bank . Absolutely. Im excited about it. I signed up for three years after the close because were going to put this thing together and its going to be very exciting. Theyve got 2,000 brokers that are going to work with us here at City National and were going to work with them. I think theyd like our banking products and capabilities theyve got hundreds and thousands of clients. We think we can find great clients in there where we can help them and they can help us grow the bank. Theyve got a terrific Capital Markets business and im sure theres some connectivity there. That gives us some capabilities we couldnt have built over next five or ten years. And i think we can expand. Take the entertainment industry. Suddenly well be able to do things in vancouver and toronto, obviously given that rbc is the number one Business Bank and private bank in canada. When we get that meshed so we can work in partnership for productions that are shooting in canada or canadians shooting here in the United States and when i say shooting i mean shooting television and Motion Pictures and were even going to expand into london where they have a bank charter and a lot of people on the ground. We think our private bank and our Entertainment Bank can go there. We can be the premiere Entertainment Bank for the English Speaking world in just a few years. Its exciting and i dont want to miss that ride. Ill let it congratulate you from our viewers who know that i always felt you were the bank that wasnt like the other banks. You clearly werent because theres no other Bank Takeovers occurring. Con kbrat lagss, Russell Goldsmith for everything youve done for your shareholders. Youve been great and given your listeners and viewers great advice. I hope they followed it and sitting watching this knowing that theyve done very well by listening to you and investing in City National. Youre very kind russell. The bank thats buying world bank, thats the kind of bank i like. They are good guys. Stay with cramer. everyone cheers glad you made it buddy. Thanks for inviting me. Thanks again my friends. For everything for all your help. Through all lifes milestones our trusted advisors are with you every step of the way. Congratulations thanks for helping me plan for my retirement.
