angeles still has a 1:55 remaining. one of the teams will take a 3-2 series lead, back to los angeles for game six. third period under way. kopitar, carries into the blue zone, inside the line, trying made a change there. blues again facing a one-goal deficit, deflected in behind quick, moves it off the boards for martinez. now mcdonald and sobotka for the blues, but clifford comes out of there for l.a. stewart out to center ice, back to toffoli, he will have to cover up. continuing on nbc on the nbc sports network is game five between the red wings and ducks. pittsburgh and the islanders tomorrow at 6:30, on sports network, ottawa here on cnbc, and the second game on the sports network will be game five between the wild and the black hawks. chicago with a chance to wrap up the series on home ice, leading three games to one. doughty shot blocked up on the netting and out of play. in game four, the st. louis blues made a couple of mistakes. and jeff carter made them play on one of those occasions as well, to turn it around. st. louis has played a pretty sound game in this one. had a heck of a lot of puck possession's one breakdown there, even though they were a man short they just really didn't sort that out. kings take advantage, they're big guys coming through. spinning away from the pressure, slides it across, jaden schwartz dumps it in wide, regehr aims it off the boards, kopitar leans it on him. now a bouncing puck, loose in front of quick, a shot away, blues finally do it just wide of the l.a. goal. now polak, sends it back in deep. dustin brown chips it off the boards and back safely into the blue family. kings able to make a quick change, blues change up as well. three minutes gone by here in the third. oshie's past kicked off by carter, offside. now pietrangelo for the blue bl berglund sends it in deep, muzzin, takes it off the far side, blues get it back, blocked. bounced off pietrangelo and out of play. >> brian: the last fore-check was really terrific, pietrangelo trying to come out on his own. >> dave: and eventually get it to oshie, l.a. in position, carter was in position. they got it back inside the zone. and st. louis forced to go back, trying to get some rhythm on their offense, and richard's line doing the job. jordan leopold back behind his own net. sobotka, shattenkirk gets it into the king's zone, backhanded, right back into the king's end, martinez forced to play now for scuderi. lewis shifts deep. leopold comes up with it now for the blues, far side, speed to the outside, hands it off. changes direction, and fraser, here is grachev. angles it back now for porter. out to the line, bouwmeester unable to hold that one in. off a blue stick into the l.a. zone. clifford off the boards with it. nice play by pietrangelo to glove it down, now pietrangelo, off the stick by muzzin. now reaves trying to dig it free, but it goes around the board, clifford gets it to the line, schwartz, he did hold it in. fraser pushes it ahead to foley, gets help from clifford, clifford drops it back into the king zone. doughty hands it off. williams tried to get it out, kopitar, forcing back out to center ice. now muzzin for kopitar, off the stick, blues get to it, back to the corner deep in the l.a. zone. regehr, intercepts off his stick, consistent fore-check that we saw early in the game from st. louis when they can start rolling a couple of lines, get a couple of line changes on the fly, keep the puck on the zone, that is how they slowly build momentum. they are starting to get the momentum back again. oshie pushes it ahead, but too far, for berglund, richards, out to center ice, shattenkirk jumped out. stopped that, here is oshie back the other way, off the stick of martinez, other side, hands it off now for carter. high slot, stole a drive, elliott completely screened there by carter and the defense of leopold. there seem to be so many shots in this game, the shooter has not been able to control it. a shot by stoll, that was in the equipment of one of the st. louis players for a moment. now the blues in control, playing out to far side, out to center size. jarrett stoll -- >> brian: there is a real business-like approach here by los angeles, they know they can play defense successfully, they're just trying to shut down st. louis everywhere like this. >> dave: trevor lewis with a check, make a move, picked up by lewis, lewis with a shot, fought off by elliott. and lifted by shattenkirk back in the lead. chris porter chasing him, doughty pulls away. doughty, great control with the puck, couple of players on, sends it wide into the blue's goal. now toffoli chops the puck free, but it comes back to cracknell. doesn't connect, goes far enough here for icing. and the blues will and thought better of it. was able to get a stick on steen as he tried to come out. now kopitar dumps it right back into the blue zone. trying to play up the boards, bounced off of williams's recover bench. bringing out some fresh legs, jackman tried to pick it up deep. oshie tried to dance to the front. now david perron picks it up, move on richards. polak with the drive, didn't get through the crowd. and richards, pushes it ahead now for dwight king, trying to get to the outside of polak. played well, elliott bumps ahead now. david perron starts it back. polak up the right side, quick with teams. >> brian: no doubt. the series has been so tight, they're built nearly identically the same. margin for error so slim. >> dave: stewart after a face-off by the blues, in behind the l.a. net, stewart sends it around bouwmeester at the net, back, david schwartz picks it up. covered up by quick after he made the initial save on jade of schwartz who just kind of looked skyward, like wow, i had a pretty good chance there. >> brian: they created good chances, and stewart has been good. he has been down low, does it again, he waits and puts it right on the tape for schwartz, schwartz gets it from carter, and schwartz gets the backhand, trying to go upstairs. >> dave: yeah, you're right, brian, he has. >> brian: i mean, he is so tough to beat. schwartz tried to get it over his shoulder and couldn't. >> dave: doughty off the glass, pushing ahead, dustin brown but it turned back by the blues and back into the l.a. end, doughty has it there. under four minutes remaining in regulation time. blue's puck, and doughty gets a stick on that. that was a great little play there, just that little reach to knock it out of the way for t.j. oshie. doughty has been terrific here again, 21 minutes after the first two periods he has to be up there in that 28-minute range. now you know he is going to get one last breather before it starts again. look at doughty in the middle of the ice there. it is a 50/50 puck, and either you back off and play the play or you have the guts to stand up and make sure you make contact with the puck and make the play that doughty did. he has that kind of confidence. >> dave: the official sheet has him at 27:46, in the third period, you're right, probably just a short breather over there. 3:40 remaining in regulation, here is bouwmeester, waits, still holds it and sent it wide but into the glove of quick. good idea to get it into the pace, especially when a defenseman gets up into the zone like this and has time. trying to force pucks into the middle and passes that are not there means that if a turnover happens you're caught and you're way out of your position if you're bouwmeester. so he wanted to get it into the paint, a smart idea as quick just made the save. backes and carter on the face-off. deep in the l.a. zone, pietrangelo off the board, picked up by steen, save, quick, rebound out to the high, king able to clear. >> brian: that was a good shot by bouwmeester, but again, the puck slipped up again, he didn't get as much on it as he probably wanted to and he had a little more time than they shot. >> dave: pietrangelo off the far side, doughty had it. now it is knocked away. doughty takes a hit, moves it up the board. blues have a 30-18 shot advantage. but the kings have a 2-1 lead, a pair of jeff carter goals against the one tally by steen. >> brian: and look at the line out by st. louis again, there is stewart, they want to get the puck out low. and schwartz who had it by the glass, has a chance. >> dave: now kopitar back to get it. scuderi hands it off. he made sure he got it out. that was a tough play, too, because he was on his backhand. now stewart plays it out to center ice. sobotka, couldn't get by voynov. hip-heck, now wrapped around and down the ice, going to be icing here. >> brian: jay bouwmeester had one of the best chances, one of the few times there has not been a series of bodies between him and the blue. bouwmeester had his head up, see how the puck rolled. it was like a knuckle ball. he did get the right shot. gave them a second chance. but again, terrific positioning by the defense of l.a. >> dave: what a face-off there by the kings. the coaches always like to say it is not just about the centerman, it is what happens after the puck gets the ice. under two minutes remain in regulation time over by the l.a. bench. a battle there, berglund gets it free, hands it off to perron. puck knocked away, one of the kings, trevor lewis, lost his helmet. >> brian: james very aware, and pietrangelo, it was a good time to jump. the kings sniffed it out. they made sure they shut it out before the puck got back to him. >> dave: under a minute and a half, keep it by elliott, a weak pass across. elliott started to come out. now he hustles back. settles it down for shattenkirk. kings were able to score late in game one the goaltender out. the blues were trying to do the same here. puck is clear out to center ice, danny mcdonald, just off the bench for elliott. kings turn it back now, under a minute remains. regulation time, l.a. trying to take a 3-2 series lead, shattenkirk back the other way. the other side by jonathan quick puts it out of the netting and back in play. remember, the kings have already used their time out. ken hitchcock still has his, if you can read lips, now he is signaling he wants to talk it over with his team with 49 seconds remaining here in regulation time. all right show you the offense we have had in the second period, oshie fell down, carter got to the front of the net, with position on oshie. here is steen walking out from below the goal line and putting it upstairs. and then carter, beautiful set-up on the rush on the power play early here in this third period. so both los angeles goals, brian, have come in the first minute of periods. and steen scoring his at 6:46 of the second. >> brian: and that is one of those things that coaches talk about all the time, be sharp in the first minute periods and the last minutes for the periods. >> dave: but l.a. obviously had the advantage, backes, steen, schwartz, oshie. the forward, pietrangelo, and shattenkirk are the two defensemen out here for hitchcock. score! somehow that puck got through, and we are tied at two. >> brian: that is exactly what jonathan quick is thinking. somehow that got through. face-offs again. st. louis, doing a terrific job. pietrangelo just rips it through. he had his head up all the way. i don't know if that was deflected. but jamie schwartz jumped over it right at the edge of the net, that is why jonathan quick had no idea where it was, was it deflected? it looked like it may have changed directions. i'm not sure who got a stick on it of the quick was moving laterale across, but was trying to find the piece of rubber but couldn't. right now they're giving it to pietrangelo. >> dave: that brings the crowd back to life here. you saw first career playoff goal for alex pietrangelo. deep in the st. louis zone. here is dustin brown, sends it back, shot skips wide, williams tried to put it to the front. it was blocked by elliott. shifted around the boards, regehr comes to the point, 12 seconds, regulation time. steen, backes, oh, what a hit by brown. the play had been called off-side, though. >> brian: you know what? i don't know if they could hear it. i couldn't hear the whistle from down here. brown was coming across on backes, backes was not happy, and that is certainly understandable. it was definitely off-side. you could see it developing off-side. hard to hear -- i know i wouldn't. >> dave: 7.9 seconds remaining in regulation. and that puck, right up into the l.a. bench. >> brian: boy, you could sense a lot of doubt in this building from the fans until that goal went in. now listen to it. >> dave: this was pushing the players back on the perimeter as the puck is back in the l.a. zone. scuderi sends it all the way down as elliott stops it there. and for the second time in this series in the building, we are going to overtime. pietrangelo, the hero. jonathan quick trying to
