Filled with companies that really have a hard time adjusting to regulation and that a lot of regulation is put through by Big Companies, and these are the companies that suffer. When you are in the Waste Management business, Waste Management is able to go to every single state and put through rules that make it so if you are less capitalized, you cant compete. Thats a very good example of what i see happening in the russell 2,000. These have been secular losers ever since the era of overregulation. They will be secular winners in the year of underregulation. Pete. People okay. Does it help confirm the rally . I dont like the word justify the rally. The rally is the rally. Weve gone where weve gone. 100 agree with you. People are looking for everything. Whats really moving in this marketplace . Its the big caps. Its the small caps. Its the midcaps. Weve had its a diversified rally. Yes. Thats what makes it so interesting, right . Its financials. Its energy. Its metals. Youre getting a little bit of everything. A little bit of weakness here and there as well. Thats to be expected. What about, josh, the fact that if you look and people say, well, some of the sectors are so overbought, its ridiculous. The very sectors that pete just named. Yeah. Does that matter . Well, look, everything matters, but i think that the Bigger Picture here is we are very good human beings in general at coming up with a narrative that fits price action weve just observed and making ourselves feel more comfortable with it. I think there are a lot of stories being told about the small cap rally. I think the most important takeaway for investors is in february the russell 2,000 was at the 30 drawdown. Think about that . Is there any reason its up 40 from that level six months later . We can come up with things after it makes that move, but no one could have foreseen it. I think staying diversified in small caps was smart, continues to be smart. Keep in mind, this is a 21 p. E. Versus the big caps. S p is a 24. 5 p. E. Thats number one. Number two, look at threeyear performance. Russell is drastically underperforming 22 versus 30 to the large cap. Catch up. Yep. Look, i agree with everyone. To find a rationale i mean, i like mine just because i deal with enough small caps on mad money that theyre getting killed by regulation. You believe that. The money in et cetera, et cetera, right . Thats where yes, obama care. If you go back just a couple of years, we were talking about the s p catching up to the russe russell, and you had all that regulation. Right. For six years already. So i agree with you that Big Companies hire lawyers and get away with it. The smaller undoubtedly. We had the Affordable Care act, which crushed the Small Companies and Big Companies. They had to lay off people. They had overpaid them. The market rotates. No different than rotating from, you know, from utilities to financials. Thats a good point. Its a sector composition story that joe brought out the other day. A lot of financials and a lot of industrials, a lot of u. S. Focused companies versus global. Thats an element that comes together. You have a lot of things going for small cap. In addition to less regulation maybe the dollar. History so stronger dollar. You dont doesnt matter. You dont want to be in the s p where 40 or 50 of your earnings come from overseas. Mall small retailer. Small banks. Not too late to get in . No, no. If you are retiring next year, maybe hold off. Its like these guys. Its like the classic Goldman Sachs caterpillar downgrade in the 1960s. Remember the sell . When did you get back in in that one . You cant. This downgrade in the banks, every day they am come in. Its the citis overdone. You have to sell citi. Citis book value 64 br. Are you trying to, what, sell it at 50, 60 . When would you upgrade . 52 . 54 . Is. It depends if you are a trader im saying that these guys are being too pennywise. They are playing the old pretrump game. Well, they are playing the game who wants to be the first, right . Who wants to be the smartest . They want to ring the register. Joe, what do you think . Just sitting here listening and letting you guys tire yourselves out. Kind of like the browns did yesterday against the giants. Its more like the kansas city game that we tired ours out. How about the thursday night football idea that they might talk about . Not a bad idea given the quality of some of those . You think so . I only watch them on nbc. Since the election weve talked about this. Its about financials. Where are the financials going . Thats the story. Then you can align with small caps. 27 of the index. Dont talk to me about the e. T. F. I dont care about the e. T. F. The index ichts, 27 up 11 since the election. Is financials. Energy is only 3 of small caps. Were also talking about less exposure. When you look right now at the environment and you think about the possibilities of a Trump Presidency, you see the dollar rallying, whats the first asset class you say to yourself, oh, wait for a second. Meerjing markets. I agree with what josh said last week. I dont know if necessarily i would pair back emerging Market Holdings right now. I dont know if thats the right strategy. Youre looking at small caps which have the distinction of less exposure to ehe merging markets. Where are financials going . Okay. In the near term, if you are expecting a pullback, great. Russell can do that. Longer term in 2017 what do i see . I see more buybacks and more dividend growth. I see less regulation. I see financials for the very first time in years. For the very first time in years. You do you know tail wind is behind you. Tail winds are first horizon. Tail winds of bb and t. Peoples United People united will never be defeated. Trump for president. That was like a three minute speech. It was a good speech. Its a halftime speech. All the time were talking about the Trump Presidency and copying what reagan did. I looked at how the market did under each president. Reagans presidency in temz of how the market did, it didnt do nearly what the markets did under clinton or under obama. They did far better than anything else. You know why . Because its where the market came from. Obama came in when the market, you know, and it started to bottom during his first year of presidency, so it moved up. You cant judge it by that. What does it say about sent mea sentiment, jim, that gold has had three weeks of losses. Retail has had three weeks of gain. You got the higher rates. Retail ive got to tell you, im watching pbh and vh corp. And columbia sports wear. There is something going on at bricks and mortar. I dont know how strong am squlzblon is this year. I dont know. I do know that there is the right kind of cold, the cold that gets rid of those heavy jackets. My dad sold he sold heavy slacks at gimbles. It was a niche business back then. They were called gabberdines. I love gaberdines. If they didnt sell those by christmas, my father was fired, and all the he was fired. Yeah. Thats the way it used to be. The charts and the xrt are almost universally pair bolic since the election. Its unbelievable. Makes the stocks very hard to buy. I dont think you have to say since the election. How about if you go specifically i understand that, but if you look at how was targets earnings when they came out, their earnings were off the chartsz. Didnt have anything to do with trump. Im not so sure. Im not saying that the businesses were impacted in the ten days. Im saying im saying earnings are why the stocks started moving to the up side. Best buy, target. Burlington its not because of what how do you was it the fact that they were sold off, and you got target trading at 68 a share. Suddenly they come out and they absolutely crushed the earnings. Cvs was bad. It made sense. All of a sudden they blow it out of the water. Jims point, though, is since the election, target is up 16. Jc penney up 15. Macys up 13. Ill bet its a belief that maybe brick and mortar isnt as dead and 90 . Because they went online. He crushed it online. Ag nosic. 90 of the people still like to go to the store. What did you think when you went to the store this weekend . I didnt go. I would say Kohls Business got 25 better because thats what the stock is up. Theyre buying back a tremendous amount. Targets earnings yearoveryear. What do you think of ollys . Approximate its a winning model. You are both arguing the same thing. The future looks bright for retailers. Theres confidence again. A few months ago people were saying that the future was dead for these retailers. It was a wild card, but now its playing. Home field advantage for retailers all the way through. You still are on a turkey high. You ate a lot of leftovers yesterday. Macys should not be selling at 19, 22. This is my worry. Thats my worry. Target at 13, 14. Thats alltime highs. Yes, because they have the apple iphone. Im waiting. People feel is that your wallet . That theres more in this next year. They are willing to look at this. They have to feel good. Yeah, yeah. They have to feel good. I was buying it. No one everyone at the dance. Theres optimism. Whether you agree with the politics or not, theres optimism surrounding more money for the consumer, more money for corporations on the back of personal taxes and on the Corporate Tax rates. The feeling of optimism. The majority of the Corporate Tax rate, the majority of the personal income tax cut that we hope or think is coming is going to people that dont need it and it has not stopped their spending. Its a fact. Okay. These are literal facts. Does it mean theyre going to spend less . No, it doesnt mean theyll spend less. Theyre going to spend more. Let me do this. This is selling well. No one people have written this off. You try to take it from them. Hey, apple is done. Give me my apple. Mine is cracked. Its a 6 plus. I thought it might be a fire phone. Its not a fire phone. No, no, no. You wait. You wait. Where is the gaf vel . Retail stocks. Can we still buy target even though its up 17 . Pennys still below where it was when they penny, no. Why . Because it missed the quarter . Because penny is a piece of garbage. Did you see the lines . There were 600 people waiting in line to go to penneys to get the house brand. Jc penney up 15 since the election. Exactly. Its a better short than it was since the election. No, no. Ellis has got game here. He has the right misdemeanor. He is switching more to appliances. Im sorry. I just dont think the world has changed in the last two or three weeks where all of a sudden bricks and mortar is back in line. You dont think millionaires get tax cuts and arent going to flood jc penney . How about tiffany . The trend to online as long as you dont try to go to the one on fifth avenue. You cant even get there. People were going. I have pictures of it. The trend to online buying, the trend to a consumer that looks for values isnt going to be reversed. That momentum is still very, very strong. Would you buy walmart up 2 since the election . Walmart is still too big to grow. Interesting. I think the valuation is still appropriate. Its going to be a market stock. I agree with best buy. Kohls got oversold. I think thats what happened. Macys went up too much i think. I dont know whether it just had that gigantic run. Theyre closing stores. My favorite. Burl burlington, childrens place. You have an activist. We havent talked about lulu, underarmour. Minus five, but i still like them zwloosh can i give you my buy list . Im waiting to get nike because theyve got a unique value proposition. I was in dicks. Theyve got a whole wall of just nike and little increments. I didnt see underarmour. Did you see the he dropped the ball on the curry 3. Lulu, under armour and footlocker at the right price. Dicks Sporting Good ceo made a comment on the call about the curry. Footlocker ceo. Yeah. That footlocker call was initially that stock went down first, and then it came back because the nike is back. Nike is back. Adidas, theyre killing it. Nike is a sleeping giant. They have back orders for the kiri two, and the new k. D. s are going to be all christmas. There are eight colorways. Well be doing the philadelphia 76ers. Under armour, will it do that . How much would you short him if he do a tieup with the 6ers . Gets lit. We had four home games weve won. The knicks are back, my friend. There you go. The young timberwolves. Nike might even sell some mellos this year. The mellows could be hot. Dont be negative. Notice how less inclined you are to talk about football. That was a cheap shot. It was. That was 15 yoords yards. Unnecessary celebration. Giants colors, jim. Onehanded interceptions. I just want to get serious for a moment. We want to step away thats not serious . It is serious. I want to get back to sue herrera who is going to give us an update on the situation many at Ohio State University and the active shooter from earlier this morning. They have lichtd the shelter in place order at Ohio State University, which was put in place earlier this morning. That live picture is coming to us from the wcmh affiliate, which is the nbc 4 affiliate in columbus. Scott, the situation has changed. According to nbcs pete williams, senior Law Enforcement official says there were no gunshot wounds. Eight people were hurt. They have been taken to area hospitals, but their injuries are not lifethreatening. Now, what pete is reporting citing senior Law Enforcement officials is that a fire alarm in one of the buildings may have been pulled, which caused the students to leave that building, to evacuate. At that point the reports are that they were either hit by or run down by a car or attacked with someone with a knife. We dont know whether that is two suspects, whether it is one suspect. We do know that the local affiliate this morning citing Columbus Police officials said a suspect was dead, but, again, we dont know whether there was more than one suspect. They are saying the situation is over, but its interesting. You see that bulletin down there . The exact nature of the incident is unclear. Were learning that there was a knife involved according to officials. There may have been a car involved. There are also reports of an explosion. So the universitys president is going to have a News Conference at 1 00 p. M. Eastern time. Well be following that, scott, and get back to you, but the injuries right now for the eight people who are hospitalized are nonlifethreatening. Perhaps thats a little bit of a silver lining. Back to you, scottie. What a range of emotion, too, on that campus. Absolutely. Within 48 hours you had the big Football Game, the biggest Football Game of the year, ohio state hosting michigan in which they won, and now this. I know. Its got to be such a difficult situation for those students. The first day back in class. By the way, classes have been canceled at Ohio State University, but keep in mind, 60,000 students on that campus at any one period of time, one of the larnlest universities in the country, and they did have a shelter in place order this morning, but it is still developing as to what exactly took place. We do know one person that they believe is a suspect has been killed, and there are eight more people in the hospital. Scott, back to you. All right. Sue, thanks so much. Sue herrera with the latest on the situation at ohio state. There is still a lot more ahead on the halftime report. Oil, black gold, texas tea. Opec prepares for a key meeting, but one well known wall street firm is saying take action in the sector now and buy one stock in the oil patch. Were naming names next. Plus, a technician says the charts are showing him something important right now. And which retail stock has performed best between thanksgiving and christmas over the past five years . The answer right after the break. Theres a lot of places you never want to see 7. 95. [ beep ] but youll be glad to see it here. Fidelity where smarter investors will always be. The Global Investment management businesses of prudential the Company Offers an attractive combination of Free Cash Flow, capital indication, and valuation up side. Weve made it our call of the day. Pete, you recently sold out of it. Why . Because its made a spectacular move to the up side, quite frankly. We talk about some of the moves, and josh brought up good points, and the hunl moves that theyve made. I think you have to have discipline a lot of the time, and i see conco phillips, and i dont disagree with the call. Its the name in terms of the Big Oil Energy names, but i think after the move that its had, scott, its okay to walk away for a little while. A lot of assets on natural gas assets, and theyre going to have to lift the dividend once again. Theres a lot that has to come into play here. I dont know necessarily if we buy it just alone on the under performance. I dont know if thats the right strategy. Get the underperformance, and focus on technicals. The buyers are come in, and theyre taking theyre taking this stock right back to resistance, which is 48 a share. Theyre very few triple tops in this business. I think it gets through. Yeah. I think it gets through. I think this is just another case in point. Yes, its been a laggard. I think there are few sellers left. I think its a chicken way to play what happens at opec. They have a big meeting on novemb november 10th. They talked about Free Cash Flow and they talked about their massive debt load of 25 billion getting 20 billion for all joe talked about using Free Cash Flow. It doesnt mean all that much. It wont get hurt as much if we theoretically we are now at this bifo biforcation. Nat gas market, have you seen it . We had a couple of cold days. Nat gas too. I like the fact that we are exporting nat gas. I like the fact that the pipes have come down from marcellus and utica. I am warming up to im going to say something, and dont hold me to it, but i did a lot of work this weekend on chesapeake. I know its moved. They have the right assets in ohio, and i was there when the late aubry mcclenan took me there to tour it may be the biggest in the country. I agree with you on nat gas. Nat gas. I would say natural gas which i think we all believe in 2017 can appreciate. It doesnt have to be the Balance Sheet of conoco phillips. We havent talked about the possibility, however remote it may be, of an opec cut. Did i hear you say earlier this morning that if you do get a cut, its chevron as the one that could be zbloosh i think chevron has got its become the big cap stock that everybody feels is the growth big cap, and i cant fight them. They actually had been developing some properties in the gulf of mexico that have come on that are very longlived, and once they get open, their cap x. Chevron is a great company. Its a really great company. Theyre a bunch of scientists, and theyve done well. I like apache when it comes to the perman, and i like chevron when it comes to deep water. I cant think of any more foolish bet to make based on analysis because there is no analysis on whether opec cuts or doesnt cut. If you are right, you stand a 5050 chance. We know the stocks are discounting. 65, 70. Howard marks likes to say theres nothing intelligent to be said about the future of the price of oil, and this is a guy that ends up investing in the bonds of Distressed Energy companies, and i think you could say double that for anything regarding what opec may or may not do. Next up, a technician who believes that charts are screaming a message loud and clear. See what the message is in just two minutes despite the Holiday Shopping season ahead. Stocks may be near a record high, but our next guest says the rally may just be getting started. Jonathan is the chief market technician at mkm partners and joins us now on the phone. Jonathan, welcome back. Thank you. What are you looking at that tells you this from the charts . Really what were looking at is theres been a lot of talk the last couple of weeks that the market has maybe gone too far too fast coming off the election lows, and thats certainly a valid argument, but what we looked at here is the value on geometric index, which is an equal weight index. 1,700. This is rebalanced daily. This is one of the truest metrics of broad market. This is actually just now the same level since 1998. We have gone sideways for 18 years if you are talking about the average stock. I think thats important. I think its to put things in perspective and take a look at the Bigger Picture. What about the notion that you do have a lot of things that people say are well overbought . Well, sometimes overbought is actually a good thing. We know that the small caps, for instance, one of the biggest twoweek advances in history back to 1980 coming off the election lows, and if you look historically that type of advance in a short period of time is bullish looking out the next couple of weeks. Its call the remember breadth thrust, right, john . Im sorry . Its a breadth thrust when you get Something Like that, right . Yeah, exactly. I mean, look, it happens in one of two instances. Its either at the end of a very sustained up trend and its kind of a blee off top. We saw it in 2000. More often than not, coming off the low. Remember, the small caps were down i think 5 to 6 coming into the election. When you have that type of move off of a pullback like that, its more often than not a sign of very strong buying interest and, look, were up 14 or 15 days in a row. It would not being to see some consolidation or pullback, but, you know rgs given the breadth indicators and the strength internally, its probably a sign that the markets are setting higher over the medium term zbroosh jim cramer. You made some great calls. Im wondering whether there isnt something structural that can happen. When you have this index going up, are there stocks that were not investable for institutions that become market cap size if they are investable so it becomes selffulfilled . Thats a valid point. I think the important point is that this takes out the impact of some of the big cap stocks. One of the issues that, you know, a lot of people had at the market last year is that it was being led by a very few number of big cap stocks. Apple, microsoft, netflix, google. We actually have the opposite this year, right . We have some of the stocks that have started to weaken on a relative basis the last couple of months. I appreciate the time. Thanks for calling in. This is now weigh of showing that you think its had too big a move, and he goes back to 1998, and you realize in the shortterm maybe its up, but theres grounding historically for a big change where something gets done in washington and people get excited about it. The question from watching a market 4 in 2017. Im looking for 4 gdp growth. The question from watching a big market move is always what would you see happen as you make new highs . A very, very small concentrated group of giant stocks, or the lions share of names all participating . So everybody makes money. Everybody makes money. Then they start saying, i want to open up my i want to put more money to work. Money has been in bonds doing nothing. Then wait what happens when cribs starts taking off. Can we go back to 4 . China, russia, india, and brazil. It was brick. Now its grim. You cant you got to crawl before you walk. Forget fangs. Go back to the 4 . Diamondback is good. How do you see the trajectory . Is that dependent upon the tax initiatives that trump is talking about and i think that that money goes back into the market. But its dependent upon his its got yes, i am a believer that there will actually be big changes. Tax cuts happen before the we have a crazy situation developing. We have a democratic president who favors he wants spending, and then we have a republican preside president. He wants to cut taxes. We havent had one of those guys. Think about it. He wants to boost spending and cut tacks to get gdp growth up big. I think that the shortterm thats fabulous. We get them interested in rnd and its happening globally in a safe haven environment. Theres a time frame for this to occur. Six months. Six months. Krinsky along with his Technical Analysis came with 27 stocks. Lets hear them. Alphabetical order, please. Discretionary names. Carnival cruise lines. Interpublic broke out. Bank of america. Cant believe it . Morgan stanley. Much higher. 70 over wow. Schwab. Up side. Up side. Yeah. I kept my b of a. Schwab, i let go because i had too much in finance. All right. That happens. Lpla. 22 since november 7th. I had i think schwab has the most up side. Of every Money Management brokerage or whatever. More than etrade . They etrade is good. I thought it was what about schwab . Were going to have to try to figure out how to do have the discipline to could ep stocks that are up . How do you do it . Being in the Asset Management how do you do that . Hang on. Sorry. You have to lose the password to your trading account. Thats the case. Do you have to start saying to yourself, you know what, its a new market, and maybe my discipline has to switch a little, and the discipline is to keep winners. I was going to ask you earlier whether even as the air starts to feel a little thin up there if you are at a base camp of this rally or if you are closer to the peak . Continental. The stock is a low pe. You may have to show discipline of waiting for that to go higher before you get rid of it. Then if the numbers start going up and munoz dlifrelivers, you say why did i do that . You also got to you cant confuse a bull market with brains in some cases. True. Some groups some groups have not theyve made moves, but they should never why i held on to b of a and i sold lpla. Im with you. The other one was b of a, big, you know, really move versus its tangible book. All right. Straight ahead, well get cramer who is calling for a move in Interest Rate sensitive stocks. See why he is so confident, and he is naming names, and he will do it next wresh when whirlpool builds an appliance, they put everything they know into it. Now lights go to sue herrera for an update on that incident at ohio state. Sue. Thank you very much. Nbc news is now reporting that a suspect is dead as a result of are the incident that occurred earlier this morning at Ohio State University. Also, an update to the injuries. Ten people have now been transported to the hospital. Nine people in stable condition. One person in critical condition. This all developed several hours ago when there was an active shooter alert put out by Ohio State University, but now as the situation is changing, apparently most of the injuries occurred by people being stabbed by a knife or being hit by a car. There was a 1 00 p. M. Eastern time News Conference where hopefully we will get some clarity from the head of the university. The president will be holding that News Conference, and well bring it all to you. Scottie, back to you. Okay. Sue, thank you for that. Lets move back to the market. The tenyear yield jumping to 2. 33 . Thats from 184 in just the past month. You are watching these Interest Rates sensitive names. Right. Theyve gotten color objection crushed, hammer, obliterated. Whatever. They got cleveland browned. They never had a chance. No. They never right. What i like about are you going to cry . What i like dont cry in your post game. Theyre yielding 3 . A lot of them i think can bounce here if we just have a couple of days where rates just stable to going down a little bit. Take a look at the recent rally that were seeing in a verizon, in an att. Its not just because they had that direct tv thing coming. Take a look at he bending color objection right here. Pepsi. Pepsi i like. If you dont believe me, pepsi at 2. 9 yield against coke at 3. 2 yield, and you get fritolay, if you are worried about the soda tax. Long pepsi and short coke. The problem was the multiple on a lot of these names that jim is talking about, though. Coming down. Theyve come down a little. I know, but youre right. Theyre 22, 21, and we could just say the permashorts. I like general mills. I think theres consolidation going on. What do you think about i think that people gave up. They gave up on these. I like verizon. I think verizon can make the comeback. I think that there was this period where people said, well, have they lost their minds at the same time that the yield got too high. Stocks came down too much. I just think that steady cash flow is good. I want to point out that a lot of this phenomenon has been drifb by smart beta, which is 40 of the inflows into the beta industry. Its now hundreds of billions, and most of these funds end up with the same stocks which the ones youre talking about as big weightings and so theyre going to be more sensitive than they used to be to swings and sentiment like, oh, this week we hate the dividends. Last week we love the dividends. If you are a smart investor and you are someone who is focused laserlike on individual names like jim is, its a great opportunity when you see those flows. Procter had a great quarter. They were great. Verizon orn has done a phenomenal job in diversifying the business. Another name, everyone photograph about jm smucker. They turned that away because of the dog food war. 127. Dog food war. 127. Longterm. I think thats a tremendous dunt. Some of the things are over bought. Its hard to look at some of these sectors and say should i chase . Maybe its time to go i know that people trade up. Right . How do you get the dogs to trade up . What do you do . You give them coffee. You are comfortable. You get comfortable to the down side, and you let the up side take care of yourself over time.
