They tweeted that they were holding an event on june 18 which will include jeff bezos for the product unveiling. Those of the top headlines. Thanks for a much. The building of the pipeline has been a controversial and supporters say it will boost the economy while critics say threatens the environment. Tom stier is the billionaire diamond activist and he is looking at this says more than just a threat to the environment. He is looking at terrorism. A report that he commission was released this afternoon and betty liu spoke with the man. He is a notable democratic fundraiser and he said he will do everything he can to stop the pipeline from being built including now portraying it as a terrorist target. He commissioned a report that was authored by david cooper who is a former navy seal who evaluated whether the pipeline is a security threat. He said many months going to the site where it is going to be built and there were many scenarios where it would be vulnerable to attack. If i was to take a simple , anario, say at doesnt small amount of explosives and target say three critical nodes along the pipeline, those terrorists could trigger a catastrophic spill in the neighborhood of 78,000,000 gallons of hazardous toxic materials into the surrounding environment. This is aalluded to, hugely controversial project. Stier says that if this was built, it would be cut to the environment. R says that if this was to theit would be a cut environment. Why did he decide to do this . He has been waging a battle that he is been losing and it seems that two thirds of americans say that we want the pipeline built that will transport the oil. They get to refine it. According to the publicans, it creates jobs. You hit all of the points. He is waging this losing battle that in fact most americans would like this pipeline built. He has lost it on the environmental side, now he is choosing the security side. Hesked david cooper whether had any position on whether this pipeline should be built. My real purpose here is to get this information in the hands of the administration and the public as well so that they can make a more informed decision regarding the pipeline. Steyers position is that this should not be billed. The fact that he has recruited you to talk about the vulnerability of this pipeline as a soft target for terrorists, i would presume would only underscore his position that this pipeline should be built. Even know tom, we have never met. He might use that to say that it should never be built. That is not necessarily my position, that it should not be billed. It is a political flashpoint. , it was not then he would have made a decision by now, whether it should be both but he hasnt. Make anyle should not decision. 25thw we move to the anniversary of the massacre in tiananmen square. We are joined by Jonathan Ferro and the asia society, jamie mansell. And asia society, jamie mansell. This is a long time in the memory of many Chinese People. No commemoration, no recognition. More than that, the Chinese Government is actively trying to squash the memory of tiananmen square. They are scouring the social media, there is all kinds of presence of the military and Plainclothes Police presence. They are doing everything they can to try to actively force the forgetting. It is like going into all of the libraries and picking out all of the books and it is like one of those Science Fiction novels. It, itremove traces of didnt happen. This is not just tiananmen square. Up to 45 Million People were killed in the great leap forward. Killed as people were a result of the behavior of the party. Obviously, the parties trying to squash that and replace this with the other narrative of victimization and the commonest party as the champion of nationalism. Is an investment implication. You always wait for those overnight reports. Sismondi purchasing managers index, it seems to move markets. What is good news, no one believes it, when it is bad news, they really believe it. The other side is what has changed. Economically, a lot, but politically, not much. When we look at these gdp targets coming out of china, we talk about a slowdown. It is us that excesses of that number. What they are trying to generate his jobs. You have a number that generates 10 million jobs a year, you keep the unemployed rate at four percent. Richer, guys dont get what happens . This is happening on the internet. What did the chinese authorities try to do, clamp down on google, twitter, suppress the voices. Compare what happened in hong kong. There were protests, respectful protest. There were prodemocracy voices being heard in the chinese mainland. I know a lot of people in the u. K. That came over from the chinese man land and still didnt know what happened until they arrived in london and started studying about their own country. As someone who is been going to china for long time, do they need any kind of reconciliation for this to happen or do they just keep making sure that people have jobs, get rich, at least some of them, and some of the government officials and family members of government officials, they have obviously benefited from the Economic Growth of the country. Does this get papered over with money . That is the plan. So far, it is actually work. Chinese Economic Growth has been linear. A lot of people remember what has happened in the past and all kinds of abuses at the hands of the party. The deal they have been with the public is you let us rule and we will deliver Economic Growth. Certainly, theyre all kinds of issues that are emerging. The Chinese People are becoming more empowered, trying to find their voices through other you have large ethnic minorities. China has become major problems. You can only paper things over. And Economic Growth, which they are still delivering. Somebodycover up, cannot cover up everything. You cannot cover up the suppression of the tibetans, the memory of tiananmen square. At a certain point, china is going to have to come to terms with its history in order to build a stable foundation. As long as the economy rolls along, that gets further and further. We have heard so much from the chinese authorities over the last couple years about restructuring. This is about as noble as a tank. These things take time. When these things happened, they are painful. If you have an apartment, you have made a lot of money on that and you know the only way you can maintain political legitimacy is by making sure your people are welloff. Are you really going to allow a house price crash . So, how do you restructure . The argument is that you carry on blowing a bubble up until it is too late. Guess what happens when bubbles get blown up too much . That is the bigger problem. Support, it isme baked in, the sooner or later they will have to come to terms with it. Up, competition in the socalled health casual restaurant category. It heats up. The company is called freshii and it is popping up all over the world. One a day. How do you describe crowd funding to those that have never visited a site and have no idea what goes on . Crowd funding means different things. Essentially, it is a group of people coming together to fund a project or a company. Toallow individual investors invest in and receive equity in those companies. Are there any legal restrictions or hurdles that have to be met before you can say, all right, that is a new widget, i want to invest in it . Star lot of restrictions. It is a heavily regulated market and it should be. We are selling securities online. Companies are able to give stock in their businesses online. , we onlyse of circleup work with accredited investors. Arehe company side, there heavy restrictions as well. We believe that if a platform is working with companies to sell equity, those platforms should be registered as brokerdealers. Your backers include union square ventures. What kind of ventures have you helped to start. Consumer and Retail Companies. Most of that we have our Million Dollars in revenue. 20 of the economy only received about four percent of angel funding. Despite that, the returns on the space have a very strong. Investment is about three and a half times your money and four and half years. Tell us about quinn popcorn, how does that demonstrate your focus . This is a Terrific Company based in boston. It is popcorn reinvented. This is an age old product. What they are trying to do was to make that product natural and good for you. We work with them to help raise a little bit under million is doingnd the company extraordinarily well. Like most of the companies on circleup, the averages growing year. E at 80 per what are the expansion plans that you have for circleup . Are you just trying to get the word up . We see the ability to see industry that is overcrowded. There is a lot of money that goes into attack. Theyre not located in one industry. What do circles have to do with crowd funding . What does a stand for . It means coming together. Coming together to accomplish a goal. It is a phrase you often hear in business and with teams. It is a group of people coming together to accomplish a common mission. I want to thank you for joining us, the chief executive and the founder, ryan caldbeck. Cyrus, the buzz on social media. How do you know . You will find out. This is taking stock. On bloomberg. We want to go to to su keenan in the newsroom. Stronger than forecast services. The industries ranging from Construction Companies to retailers. Reboundlatest sign of a from that first quarter. Videomaker, surfers, skydivers. They have a new talk executive. Top executive. Themselvessitioning as a Media Company and are planning an ipo. The new york rangers have given Madison Square garden almost everything that they can want even before playing a single stanley cup game. There is already a prediction of record revenue. More than 37 million. Those are the headlines. Big data heavy weight, it is called next big sound which allows musicians and their teams to track artist, social media sales, as well as marketing campaigns. The idea is to make better decisions. They can show you lady gagas. Age got 50,000 visits so, the next big sound was to go to the next big thing. Books. Yes, book publishing. Here to explain is the founder and chief executive officer. Thanks for being here. Aybe refresh people want music consumption for every Single Person in the world so this is grafting all of the public social data into one Central Place that the Music Industry can use to make decisions. So, anyone can type in a band and track where they are being listened to. For example, if you have a favorite aunt, you type in the band. I dont know, what is your Favorite Music . You find out how many people look at the wikipedia page. How many people follow the other artist on twitter, how many of them like him on facebook . That information is what is used by marketers, by advertisers to say, obviously we want to go with what is hot or what is working and what is not. In the last 30 days, 20 million views of her video have been played. Market reaction from her fans and we have never been able to track it such a granular and daily level, the way that millions of music fans are consuming music and interacting with their favorite artists. Ok, that is music. Everyone keeps saying that books are dead but youre saying, look, books are very much alive, authors are alive. Tell us what you are doing. Last monday, we launched next big book, which is our domain division. Ofwing that there are a lot the same data sources and fragmentation happening to that business. Thats only been recently they realized they needed to make sense of all of this data that is out there and people are no longer just going to the bookstore and buying books. When that was the case, nielsen books provided all of that data. And that was all coming out of the retail location. Exactly. Before you buy a book, you are researching the author on wikipedia. You might follow the title on twitter. You can add this to your shelf. You are taking all of these interactions and signals that the book industry can use to actually better forecast what will be the next big seller. Does this information somehow get massaged in order to understand trends . Be at a pointg to and time, is noted to have this kind of data and see what happens at different times of the year. Ofthe seasonality and all his friend patterns that emerged when you look at a macro level, you are doing your own music consumption or reading, but if you look at the trends worldwide, you can see a lot. I guess you could say, there are certain types of books that obviously do well in the summertime, people might be going on holiday, to the beach. Those are what we want to advertise as opposed to something else. Exactly. Were are just learning what those trends are. You can see people stream spotify during the workweek and buy singles on the weekend. We see this kind of seasonality even towards the daily level. The jeff bezos give you a call . Still waiting. Obviously, they have the data because they sell a lot of the books. You, are you interested in connecting with them . Definitely. Our approach has been working with our first customer, one of the big five looked publishers. They give us the data that amazon sense to them. We combine that with barnes noble, facebook. To help them understand how they all linked together and interact. That has been our approach. Alias told me about ed as azalea, that is big right now. What is big and books . I dont have a title or an author for you. The young adult section, just like in music, drives a lot of activity that we are seeing online. I bet you you will get a lot of celebrity books. Yes. Will this change the way that they produce the books . Instead of giving you the whole book, they will have chapters . I think there is a lot of change going on in both of these businesses and the traditional model. Everyone needs a better understanding of who the consumer is and how they like to actually engage with content and we are just at the beginning. And you have the money to do all of this . Yes, we have had Great Investors around the table. I want to thank you very much and congratulations. Next bighite of the sound. Coming up, technology helping to link tractortrailers and also increase the safety, reduce fuel improving the Trucking Industry. I will talk to the company but behind these new radars and sensors. We will meetes, the chief executive of a Company Making automobiles that have mobile offices, mobile gyms, mobile conference. Mobile x3 c1 systems to improve efficiency and the safety of freight trucking fleets. Im joined now by the chief executive, josh switkes. Explain a little bit about this idea of using sensors, technology, and sophisticated algorithms to really make the Trucking Industry more intelligent when it comes to driving tractortrailers on the highway. My pleasure to be here. I think you described it quite well. Our ground, a lot of us came from the automotive industry. A larger and immediate impact. As you mentioned, it is about a 650 billion industry. This is 50 billion dollars on accidents when you look at entrance and direct costs and about 100 billion a year on diesel fuel. We saw that this same technology that has been developed for automobiles could be applied to trucks. That is exactly what we are doing with our system. Tell us about platooning, what does it mean when it comes to Truck Driving and you have got to get the braking systems right, otherwise youll end up with some big problems on the highway. Are formingey is we a pair of trunks and these are sensing each other but theyre also directly to medicating with one another. Using an automated standard form of medication similar to wifi but much more robust. We communicate directly between the two tracks. Immediately, when that applies the brakes, we know about it in the rear track and we can react nearly instantaneously. Driver usually takes 12 seconds to react to the actions of the vehicle in front of them. But their system is about a hundredth of a second. We can automatically apply the brakes in the rear truck and we can do that reliably every single time. This helps us to prevent the most common types of accidents on the highway which are frontal collisions. These are very costly accidents. Themallows them to put closer than what would be safe to do if youre mannerly driving. So, we have this large increase in safety, preventing these accidents, and putting them close together where they save fuel. The same type of drafting a fax that helps racecars, cyclists charts to helping his save fuel. Many people are surprised to learn you actually save fuel on both tracks. Save fuel. Ucks with these braking sensors likeechnology, and sounds you have to have some kind of ubiquitous system, you cannot certainly have one truck using one china system and others using another kind of electronic connection. How do you make sure that you have consistency across these Different Networks . Oneou have one truck using kind of system and others using another kind of electronic connection. This is regardless of what kind of truck they are, in the same type of fleets. Acrossoton is compatible fleets, brands, and equipment. That is part of what our software does, to ensure there is always this automated reaction and this coordinated control. What about bad weather, things like that . How does that interact with the peloton system . Platooning Network Operations center. You can think about this like air Traffic Control but much more automated. What this does is that it is a central server that we run which controls when and where you can platoon. You will not be allowed to platoon. Keep in mind the active safety systems. The platooning including the fuel savings, this is only when youre on appropriate roads. This is down in your neighborhood streets. This is on interstates and divided u. S. Highways. This is a fast majorities of miles that these drive. We looked recently at 90 of their miles which was away from cities and on major highways. We want to share we want to thank you for sharing the details. Josh switkes is the chief technologyf peloton joining us from san francisco. Sprint is nearing an agreement on the price, capital structure, and termination fee of in a of anfor acquisition for tmobile. Both stocks higher in afterhours trade. We will have more details next on taking stock. This is taking stock on bloomberg, i am an voc. Sprint is said to be nearing an agreement on the price, capital structure, and termination fee on an acquisition of tmobile. Tmobile shares are up. Turned out to alex sherman a Bloomberg News he broke the story. Sherman,ow to alex Bloomberg News. He broke the story. The potential combination of tmobile, sprint. What is new now . Softbank has wanted to put these companies together since they acquired 80 of sprint. Sizeis new now, well, the have been working together for months to try to push themselves closer and closer to an agreement. At least the financial terms of this appear to have been more or less handshake. We know the price we here will be about 40 a share. It might be less than that. 40 a share for tmobile. Out of at t, get that deal was blocked. Will this deal get blocked . Determinedt has been is a termination fee for those that follow the industry which was such a big deal on the at t deal because tmobile got about 6 billion of cash and spectrum out of that deal. And the ceo of softbank has made it a point not to have such a large termination fee with this deal because he feels it is an incentive for regulators to block the deal. They will be strengthening the little guy here, tmobile, making them an Even Stronger competitor. Regulators can put that that is there to kind of express the seriousness of purpose . Correct. Xpect that to be smaller we still dont know the specifics on what that will be. We do hear that it is either close to being agreed upon or has been great upon. Is this a cash deal him in a stock deal . Halfandhalf. Widget telecom will own about 15 of this new company. Deutsche telekom will own about 50 of this new company. This has to do with convincing regulators that this makes sense. This is not simply a deal where they have to come and handshake. Both sides want to do this deal. That is not the big issue. The big issue is convincing regulators that this is in the longterm best interest of consumers and that is the work that still needs to be done and probably wont be done until july or august. Trying to combine the number three or number four players. Together a model and a case that convinces regulators that this is good. Lets turn to it and ask heard for luxury automobiles. Mercedesbenz delivered more than 1. 4 million cars in 2013 which an increase of 11 . One Company Looking to capitalize on a small portion of automotiveis becker design. It customizes car interiors. Im joined by the chief executive howard becker. Great to have you with us. People about becker automotive design. It is not just any interior we are talking about. They buy it because there is a usefulness in the ability to have privacy and concentrate on all of the productivity that you can get out of four g mobile internet on board of mobile office computers, video conferencing, you name it. Everything you can do in your office, basically you can do it in the back of one of articles meaning that your time is completely optimized and you become much more productive than you would sitting in the back of the sedan or driving your own car. Explain how you got involved in this business. Bring in your relationship with the cadillac, escalate in china as well as daimler. Well, we began a long while ago with car electronics. Customershe upscale and Car Dealerships in beverly hills. From those customers and the cars they brought us, we got familiar with electronics and cars and how to do them properly. We got familiar with luxury automobiles and how they are made and have it constructed. More importantly, most importantly, we got familiar with those customers. They got familiar with their tastes, their needs, their suggestions. So, the suggestions morphed into something that began to talk about wanting to be in a vehicle where they were not necessarily encumbered by driving, although they love to drive, and they have great cars and they will drive them when the time is right and appropriate. They could be in relatively discrete exteriors, still handsome and authoritative but notentations ostentatious, but be in their own world. That time that they would gain from that would be invaluable. So, we began to work with that and it morphed into what we do today. Our relationships with mercedesbenz are based upon being approved by them boast mystically in the u. S. And internationally for our builds. That means that passed all of the eu and u. S. Safety in terms of the electronics. I want to get your idea, what do Something Like this cost . I know you have a variety of different ranges and options. What would Something Like this run . Generally, they start off at 200,000 dollars, chassis included, and go up to as high as 450,000. Slightly more when there is armoring involved. All made in oxnard, california . Ates, we have three of them our yes, we have three of them at our location in oxnard. Howardwant to thank becker, owner of becker automotive design. Thank you for joining us.
