The ukraine. It landed in istanbul. Apparently the passenger was intoxicated. Fear is about terrorism looming over the games. Amazing details coming out of sochi. The world is coming together. We hope them we hope they get it right. Well. H them go pro. This came out earlier today. Strike when the fire is hot. That little guy im not too sure. In 2012, the sales were about 5 million for the company. This company is only about two years old. It is thought that it will be doubling. Cooln we talk about how this is as we look at all these videos . That is why there is excitement. It changes the way eu can shoot. Of twitter,k about like we were talking yesterday, you think that this will be one where people are not looking so much at the fundamentals as the cool factor. The ceo, nick woodman, started the company because he wanted to create straps that would allow surfers to strap cameras to surfboards. Then he realized there could be an industry. The other big story, the jobs report coming in lower than estimated. Looking at the nonfarm payrolls. Lower than estimated. We are seeing the Unemployment Rate fall to 6. 6 . The read when you look at the stock market today is largely positive. You can look at it a couple of ways. Investors,m some well, it may have been lower than estimated, but is still relatively healthy. Relatively healthy. And this might allow the fed to taper not as quickly. I am so tired of hearing people discussed the taper back and forth. We heard from to fed governors earlier this month. They are tapering. Each of them said that. [indiscernible] economy. And grow this that is what it is all about. Time, jules its time. He is the executive from linkedin where he has his finger on the bulk of jobs. Incredible. Almostre actually up to 200 Million People. Its amazing to see what they are talking about, what theyre reading. We can discuss some of that here. That is your job. Bring it all together. Got you. A lot of what people are talking about is jobs. We have our economics editor michael mckee. One of the interesting things from linkedins Earnings Report yesterday was talk about this bluecollar workers. Not the whitecollar workers you think of as using linkedin to read what does the employment profile look among those folks . They should be signing up in droves if it helps them get jobs because its really bad. This is a tale of two economies, wo Unemployment Rates. Education, a college you are at 3. 2 . Thats basically full employment. If you do not have a high school education, nine point six percent. This is a tale where people who do not have skills do not have jobs. The old middleclass dream of a job that pays you well in a factory has gone away. Not see growth of 50,000 in january usually . There are some exceptions. Construction workers can drive snow blouse snowplows, maybe some things like that. We think the jobs survey in january was the one week we did not have a storm. Dan, what is the buzz on linkedin . You are not vocus on bluecollar jobs focused on bluecollar jobs. Yet its a huge part of the market. I think you are exactly right about this idea of two economies being treated separately. There are waves of people in blue economy jobs that need to get the skills they need to have to be that part of the workforce. Number one, we see this all the time theres a train of thought that comes from entrepreneurs, Silicon Valley folks who say skip college, be the entrepreneur. That works for some people. But for a lot of people a minority of people really. Exactly. You have to be pretty special to have that focus, to have these support network to prop you up if you have not gone to college. For most people going to college. Im curious the folks that you have capped to write on linkedin, are they bluecollarng these concerns, besides saying you need to go to college . What kind of things are they saying and how does that attract folks to linkedin . We have about 500 influencer. These are top five leaders in the world writing original content. They are writing about everything from whats going on with jobs to how to raise your life balance. When they talk about bluecollar jobs, number one, what we see is inking from a hiring managers point of you. How does a hiring manager look at someone who might not have a college degree, might come from unusual avenues. What do you get from that Diverse Workforce . Absolutely, go to college, meet the bull, learn the skills you need to learn. Also find the economies fine the companies to bring people in. Look for people who might be a little bit different. Yes, think outside the box. Michael, you have talked about the youth Unemployment Rate. People who have effectively given up. How do you bring those people back end . What do your people say . Lou adler, he doesnt incredibly well on linked in writing as an influencer. He made a great point in connection with president obamas higher longterm aboutment pledge that three companies signed, including linkedin. He said, if you are a hiring manager, stop asking about skills. Its all right for it to be this part. Stop making it you have to program in these languages, do x, y, and z. If you were in the military and did Amazing Things and you have been out for three years, no job, what did you do that made you successful and how can that apply to the company . Andiring managers recruiters start thinking that way, we will have more people coming in who are possibly part of this longterm unemployment. The problem is, there is no incentive to do that because there is so much slack in the labor force, they can find people with skills and they do not have to make that extra effort. What we need is more jobs created, the labor market gets tighter. Then you become more selective, look at people, and say, i can train that person. Its too easy to say, this guy has the skills. I will take him. Are Government Programs to get the longterm unemployed out of that position. You wonder if they are working. They cant work too well because the numbers they have so many to french raining programs. There are proposals to merge them. You see Companies Taking a lead in that. Charlotte, North Carolina is one of the areas they have developed Community College programs. They go to a company and they say, what skills do you need . They offer those Training Programs at the community theree and they go from to the company. You just hope that your recruiter will look at you because you are a good guy. Is more targeted. It is more targeted and it is still safe. We talked to people a short time ago who said, we need programmers. We need people who can program. If you have that at the top of your list, you will get looked at. If you do not, you will not. That is a perfect segue to , danext segment. Thank you roth and michael mckean. Heres a question why is tom keene riding a bike with square wheels . Take a look. The relationship between squares and circles. How was that for a mind bender . We will be right back. Whitmore writing about been new being writing about the need for more teens in stem. We are here with the executive editor at linkedin, daniel roth. And we are also joined by glenn whitten. He is the director of new yorks museum of mathematics. We were showing the video up tom keene riding the bike. You are trying to make math relevant. Explain why tom keene, all 250 pounds of them, is writing this bike . We want to show kids that with mathematics, you can do inc. That seem impossible like making a square wheel role. You need to learn more math to figure that out. Is math if you boil everything down, if you are trying to get kids excited in science, etc. , it is all math . Math is a huge gateway. There is no better predictor for how you will do in college. Now i am trying to think of outer bro. You may have beaten the odds. Now im trying to think of algebra. What do kids do . Hey do things that are fun they shoot baskets. Maybe they will get in the nba and get rich. But the more practical way to get rich is to have good math skills. At if kids start thinking that math is fun, they go to college, they major in the sciences and all of a sudden it fulfills what some of your contributors are talking about, which is that is where the growth is. The story, they surveyed everyone taking the ac t, and they found that kids are really interested in stem. The message has gotten through. You need to be competitive in this stuff to be successful in the new economy. Then they go to college and do not take stem glasses. They think, maybe i would rather study geology or sociology and not do the hard math and science. They have to actually memorize. They have to learn this stuff. Fair enough. But we do not show them the light at the end of the tunnel. We do not show them the creativity. That is what we hope to show them at the National Museum of mathematics. I want to talk about the reason why this is perceived as such an issue here. Take a look at the projected increases in spamrelated jobs from the department of education. Jobs for theed department of education. The definition of what constitutes a stem job does differ taste on the organization measuring it. Physical scientists, software developers. Hugeems like there is a need for these jobs to be filled. They are just not being filled. They are not getting qualified people. If you look at who is in these jobs now, they are 75 of the folks depending on how you measure it at 75 of the folks in those jobs are men. If you look up, your role models and mentors might not necessarily be people you relate to. Hurdle. Huge other linkedin by definition can solve that. Howd you do that . If you are highly motivated you can search and find people who have gotten to the position you want to get to. You can reach out to them. I think there is a very Important Role for mentors to cross the barriers, reach out to people, make sure i am mentoring a young woman, a man, a woman, i might nor be a minority. Ordinarily might not fill the stem jobs and bring them in. You are connecting with them, you are staying in touch with them. Very easy to use linkedin for that. Time, i wasme looking at this issue. There was one contrarian story written by a guy named robert sherritt. He says there is a stem crisis. Not the one that everyone thinks up. The real stem crisis is one of literacy. People are getting education, but its not a Strong Enough education. He looks at people who do date who do get degrees in stem related subjects. The proportion getting jobs is relatively low. Not only that, when you look at pay across industries, you would think if there is a scarcity problem, the wages would be going up. It self corrects. There is a there isople are a market if people are smart enough. We try to do both. Its not at a mastic its not automatic. The Way Technology is into everyday life, your cell phone would not exist. Figure it out. We try to make both points. Both are really important. Jules, i think you were making the point. There is something that happens in junior high when kids start migrating away. How do you stop that . That is key here. Math is cool in fourth grade. Not so much in eighth grade. If you are good at math, you are a geek. So, you have to create an environment where it is safe to love math. How do we do that . We have 2000 people all talking about this the Flat Iron Building. They were all there. The Flat Iron Building is a triangle. It is a right triangle. We were celebrating the pythagorean theorem. They were willing to get out there. They had face paint and hats and triangle shoot triangle shoes. Everything to celebrate the love of math. I like it, too. Nationalrector of the using them of math. Also known as momath. I like that. Stay with us. The nfls Richard Sherman should be your boss. Really . We will talk about that, next. All right, time for global outlook. Stories from around the world. Got to talk about the sochi olympics. Picking up in russia. Finally. We have been talking about it so long. The price tag, 40 5 billion. Its mindboggling how you can get to the 45 billion rice aboutthe super bowl costs 1 billion. You say it costs 50 times that . But things are not ready and they are not right. Doorknobsd to put in everywhere. That is the thing. The complaints about the olympic venues are out numbering. There is a twitter account for sochi command such a complaints. Right. Followers for that outnumber the official sochi olympics account. Before the show, you said you had someone writing about the pics issue. This this is great. The ceo of cinnabon. The only restaurant opening is a cinnabon. So, she wrote about it. They had a few thousand restaurants in russia. They knew that sochi would be a big deal. They try to plan very early. They are open. Business is booming because of it. They were the first restaurant opened in libya after the revolution. Cinnabon is the place you go where places are in trouble. Its like Dunkin Donuts number right . The same thing after the Boston Marathon issue yearandahalf ago we were up there and the only place open was a Dunkin Donuts. Its crisis eating. It cant be too good for the athletes that the only place open is a cinnabon. Also on a related note, a Winter Olympics bomb threat, reportedly forcing a plane headed for ukraine to land in turkey. The plane did land safely. A passenger was intoxicated and thought the plane was landing in sochi. This just highlights some of the issues again around the olympics. Mention the Standard Poors downgrade of turkey. It was a week ago turkey overnight doubledip lending point 75 to 10 . They had to stem the flow of money out of the country. Its amazing when you think of some of the headlines around the world. Is. Here that has created concerns here in the u. S. As well and how it has affected the markets here also. I went to mention one more story with ukraine we are watching globally. The deadly political and economic crisis there in its third month. The central bank impose limits on her and foreign currency purchases. Russia has released comments made by u. S. Diplomats about the situation in ukraine that indicated they were perhaps trying to influence what was going on there. That has created another diplomatic wrinkle between the United States and russia. Yeah, to say the least. Lets take a quick look at the markets. Shall we, jules . 26 past the hour. Bloomberg is on the markets at this time. We have seen a rally. We talked earlier about the jobs report. It was not dismal, even though it was worse than expected. It could lead the fed to not stop tapering. We will be right back. Welcome to street smart. I am adam johnson. And im julie hyman. Dan roth is also here, our guest host for the hour. Also one of his influencers, people who make a difference we had to have you come on, shane. You had this these Richard Sherman should have my job. He of coors was the wide receiver for the seattle seahawks. On his that this guy was game. Why . Im fromof all, seattle. I thought that Football Game was one of the best super bowls of all time. After watching that interview, i spent a lot of time talking about what works and does not work in digital. We look at the traffic on social media. I asked my guys to look at the comments about Richard Sherman. During the game, after the interview, the next week. The story was to medically different. Before the interview, the polite tim. 50 positive. After the interview, anyone with kids said no way. I dont want this guy around my kids. He is crazy. As the story unfolded, people very smartis is a man. Graduated second in his class in high school, went to stanford, majored in communications. What he had to do was pivot, and you are saying that is what he did and thats one of the reasons he did. Speaking in different voices. That is what is fascinating, writes . To employ these different voices for different audiences depending on what the audiences. If you look at his twitter comments. Very much in character with the audience there. The interviews after that, he is much more calm, appropriate for the moments. I think as you look at an employee or trying to find an employee, being able to match is writable. That you think this is planned possibly . But this is part of is persona. The beats by dr. Dre commercial was already out. This played into that. One of his idols was mohammed ali. I think he was waiting for that moment to speak his mind. [indiscernible] right . [laughter] break through the clutter and make sure you have a good message, you think being able to tailor his message, get it out there a few silly, cheaply it cost him nothing to make that statement at the end, right . Nothing. Im also, you have to be controversial, timely, have an opinion. This is a very polarized conversation about Richard Sherman, culture, even about race. The photo of him in the article, as we have learned over time, is really critical to get marketers to be successful. Pivot, lets talk about your business, the digital ad business. For your Parent Company and every Big Ad Agency now they have been beefing up their digital business. If you are looking at a Richard Sherman for example and eats by by dr. Dre,eats what do telik lion when a spokesman has done Something Like this . You tell a client when a spokesman is done Something Like this . You have to be honest. You have to get into the conversation. Feral pharrel l had a hat on. Arbys tweeted can we have our hat back . Thats not something you can plan. The fact that rb said someone smart enough and creative enough to write that in the moment and have approvals on the agency side, and the client, thats what you need to do. Does it cut into the promise of your business that when you have people able to do this for free you have someone like Richard Sherman who doesnt have an agency. Maybe he did. As far as we know, he is going to the cameras and talking on his own. Reacheasier than ever to a huge audience without having someone messaging for you. It is quality and quantity. We look at having people 100 focused on what is going on with social media, having professional writers and copywriters and designers who will adopt and create for the moment. So maybe, maybe the secret to advertising on twitter is not actually to advertise, right . There is so little real estate. Maybe it is this thinking. To tailor tohave the brand and the products and the audience. But how do you get paid . You are an ad guy. What is interesting is following along before, during, and after the tweets, to see how to message is and respond that. That is not something the average person is able to do. You have to take those metrics and understand it. The client end, we have those agreements. What is it worth to have a like, a connection . How much does it cost to acquire that metric . In other words, it is really going ad centric . Absolutely. You know how great the trade is you just look in your rearview mirror. Achinson inson i shouldnt say of possible. You are the ceo of possible. I like that name. Of possible. Seehank you for helping us what is possible. Dan roth will stay with us. We will challenge them to a game of word association, up next. All right. Take a look at where the markets are trading right now. The happy Dow Jones Industrials trading up at 155. And a the s p up one quarter percent. A lot of green on the screen. This week was down at one point for the year, what, its percent almost . Thats right. We have cut that by more than year. Now 2. 8 for the health care, industrials. People still buying gold interestingly. Gold was for the first time was down for the first time in 12 years last year. You take anything far enough, it will find buyers. Maybe that is what happened with the s p. Could be. Time for word association. Why dont i take it all for you, to start with the biggest influencer. Richard branson. Invincible. First of all 3 million followers, over 3 million dollars. The guy, everything he writes turns to gold. If he writes if you paragraphs while he is sitting in a hammock on an island, boom. More followers. People want to be richard branson. Is that what it is . An aspirational thing . Yeah. He is the ultimate disrupt her, right . Boughtged the way people music. He changed the way people could fly, get Quality Service in the air. Yes, absolutely. Looking at hotels, other things. You see branson moving into a whole bunch of areas. The virgin brand is so strong. You do not see a lot of france where one person is though intimately tied with it. Conan obrien. Tall. Very funny. Incredible to work with, by the his pieces which are all work related. He talks about how the professional world is changing. He comes in and sticks a little knife in there or pulls out one genuine file and the whole thing falls down, making fun of interns, his profile, the other influencers, talking about it. I think the credo reacts well. Here is the next one. James gone, not the actor. James kahn. Not the actor. Who is this guy . He is huge in europe. Who is he . Hes a very well known ad guy. He is cuban like in that he will say on most anything. He is not afraid to share his opinion and he has a tv show and the u. K. He is mark cuban. There are no editors if you are on twitter or linkedin. You put it out there. It resonates. Thats exactly what your guys are doing. And they get really upset if it does not resonate. The data is the editor for them. I come back and say, why did this story do well . A lot of comments going back and forth. Jamie dimon. Im going to say economy. How about that . [laughter] jamie dimon is another one who he he manages to get, when writes certain things, he wrote about the economy. Withe were not thrilled what he said because he said the economy is doing great. He said, from where i sit in nebraska, its not doing great. Mr. Fatcat banker. But people respond very well. People understand what he is doing. He is building up of following. Hes working on it. This guy saved the economy, then got tarred for it. Hes done a lot of good things. A lot of bad things. I would be very curious to see in 20 years when we look back on jamie diamond, how we judge him. Speaking of legacy, this guy is just beginning building is. Can i say this . This is what i would say to get an angry tweet from them right now. Ben smith he wants to be bigger than the New York Times times. The new york with Great Stories about politics and business and gay, lesbian issues. You say bigger than New York Times. Ou are talking about influence absolutely. Look how many people use busby. They read it and they stick with it. Do you want mine . Yeah. Cbs. Cbs cvs . Not to buy cigarettes. And leadership. They want to send the message to the world if this is where you come to get healthy, were not you get unhealthy. And publicity. They are doing something on the mental. They are getting a lot of good pr. A store gets good pr for not carrying an item. Its incredible. They dominated the news. Were still talking about it. Dan roth, one more not a word. Another segment. Were talking about no place like home. Dan is joining us from linkedin. We will be right back. Welcome to street smart. I am adam johnson. We are here with our cohost, dan roth, jules and i are. We are talking about founders and eeos who have left their company and gone back. An interesting trend. Dell, wes, michael could go on howard schultz. What do you make of his move . First, i think when a founder comes back it sends a signal to the workforce. There is such desired especially if its a really powerful founder like howard schultz. One of the things he has done is said, im going to champion innovation. When a founder comes back he or she can make a mans of the business and manager who stepped in cant. They can make wild calls. They can push boundaries. They can say, i know the numbers. We would do x, y, or z. But we are not doing that. Howard schultz said, we are trying hard enough. And no more breakfast food. He said, i know it sells well. It smells. The store is about creating a great atmosphere. I think its cnns it sends a message to the company of things are good enough that he does not have to be there or be involved at the same degree, that sends a pretty good message. I think what bill gates is doing is a similar role. Chairman andwn as he is getting more involved with the future of the company. Howard schultz is not managing the numbers. What he is managing his path. I think people want to follow someone thinking about the path. Itselfael dell, hes got cap ahead, doesnt he . Oh, yeah. Have to strip down to the dorm room basically. Rebuilt from scratch. It is going to be a fascinating story. Agyou look at michael and loudly. They were not founders. They came in because they wanted not because they wanted to get their hands dirty necessarily. Jcpenney, you could argue that is in worse shape than proctoring Granville Proctor and gamble. They were both beloved ceos. Interesting things, when the workforce is feeling so down like there is no future, having someone like that come back in sends a huge signal. Go back to steve jobs when he. Ame back to apple how happy people were. Terrified, also. He was a terrifying guy. Beyond simply going back, what do your influencers say about the role of the ceo from the top, setting that tone . Bebasically the ceo needs to a leader, not just a manager. That is a very common one. You look at them like the ceo at nera who at pa talks about making sure the employees know the path. That so important. Dan roth, it has been a pleasure. We will be back with the close. All right, welcome to street smart. We have breaking news out of washington where treasury secretary jack lew lets go right to peter cook. We are facing another debt ceiling showdown between republicans and regrets here. Jack lew is reiterating to members of congress that its time to act now. He is updating his guidance on when the debt ceiling could be breached. He says based on our most our best and most recent information we are not confident the extraordinary measures we are now putting in place today will last be thursday, february 27. At that point the treasury would left be left with only cash on hand. It is estimated that would be 50 billion. That could be above or below that level depending what happens the next few weeks. Roughly ino out refunds from the iris at that point, also expenditures from the government nets from the irs at that point, also expenditures from the government arnett at that point. And not of default making payments would begin at that time. Peter, it is julie. Is the difference now it is a specific date, because he was already talking about the end of february here . Is this just a way of ratcheting up pressure on republicans . It is a way of ratcheting up pressure. The previous guide was the best estimates it could come up with. Now he has given to the best of my knowledge for the first time in this debt ceiling fight a specific date the government would potentially run out of darling authority, cash. Underto light a fire republicans and democrats to get this done. No one wants this fight. He is trying to get congress to move. This is also going to be out of the, at least on paper house will be out for about two weeks at the end of february, the senate as well. They are running out of time if they want to get home for the president s day recess as well. Amazing, isnt it . We are right back where we were a few months ago. Well be cross backs we know at the 11th hour and 59 minutes we can be pretty sure. Another thing we can be sure of, time for the top 10. Apple, rising one percent on news that the could company by back shares. The latest Earnings Reports shows the iphone fell short of sales estimates. Expedia, shares surging 14 . The Online Travel company says that shares jumped on the strength of hotel booking. There was also an increase in air tickets over their rival priceline. Com. Moodys climbing to an alltime high after the Credit RatingCompany Posted a fourthquarter that the estimates. Percentrobot, down two today. Three firms have downgraded the shares following the news. It is definitely the best Grocery Store in new york city. It is an awesome store. Activision is surging. The videogame publisher says that sales of call of duty, thanks to matt miller, have helped him whether the transition to new consoles. The stock is on the rise even as activision cost outlook shrinks. Class starbucks. There is a positive on the companys loyalty program. Wells fargo believes that starbucks is entering a new era of growth. Class number two cigna. Shares are down. First quarter earnings will probably decline. One, linkedin. Sales growth will slow for a fifth consecutive quarter. Linkedin is seeking to reach workers overseas and answering adding mobile features. They may make some acquisitions. The ballot closed about two minutes ago. For a one right now and we are out 4 01 p. M. Right now and we are up. A strong day. Lets move to the roundup. These are the stories were tracking ahead of monday wash opening. We are joined by jesse lynn and Olivia Sterns. Matt miller, you got me into go pro. Matthew bageling . Class i own very many. Than you can possibly count. Get a camera and duct tape you can save some money. I like to put them all over my car, my motorcycle. There are so many cool things you can do. Is a catamaran that goes fast. You use go pro on your catamaran. Ive been filed for an ipo. They are striking well the fire is hot. Sales were around 525 million. Glad they are less than 1 billion. Under 1y have to be billion to file the way they have filed. Client is very cool for serving. That is how got started. When i went skiing, every kid the mountain had a go pro strapped to their head. It is not a smart move. They are under 1 billion and they were supposed to be over. Now they are doing the confidential thing. Glad they have under a billion dollars in bills. They could be valley in five percent straight bigamy selling a five percent stake. People have been talking about google gas. I used to be in this business. There are tons of competitors. You are right, there are a ton of competitors. Them, butl slough of when they have, and you would understand is, is a brand. Cracked they have done an unbelievable job. I will give them that. They have made it cool to own these things. But it is still duct tape and a camera on my head. You should use one and duct tape it to your had. Can i point something out . You guys are shouting. You are very fired up. You well has a strong brand . Hillary clinton. That is why makes it a great question if joe biden as running for president. He sat down with cnn for an interview. This is what he had to say. There may be reasons i dont run. But there is no obvious reason why i should not run. If youve able to make up his mind, he will decide by 2015. Im so confused. Two days ago he gave a speech to the United Auto Workers saying that he will not run because he likes to drive fast cars and he wants to get a new corvette. Any need to tell his biggest backers that he needs money. If you come with me, that is what joe biden is. He is a backroom politician. He is very good at it. He should be working on this whole debt ceiling thing right now. That is where he is good. He came in 1973. Too. N was older he may not feel the Financial Support that hillary has booked up. Major democratic donors are backing hillary. Those funds are frozen until he announces. A month ago, Chris Christie with a front runner. There is a long way to go. This is joe biden. He says whatever comes into his head at any moment. He slammed laguardia. He is right, but he is also the Vice President of the united dates. To anpared Laguardia Airport being a third world country. He is not politically correct. It is so true. Laguardia is an embarrassment for new york. Wrong. S not but he is the Vice President. Speaking of embarrassments, sochi olympic lane complaints are taking over twitter. This twitter has more followers in the official sochi 2014 account. Complaints about hotel rooms, uniforms, toilets. Big fellow box office, which i do every olympics. Spent 50 billion. They built 14 venues, but apparently not well. They added 90,000 hotel rooms. We hear that a plane en route from the ukraine to turkey had an attempted hijacking by amanda was intoxicated. He thought he wasnt sochi. Tom keene told Olivia Sterns that you will kidnap her and prevent her from going. Has anyone visited the olympics . It used to be one of my jobs before. Toronto thattel in didnt work right yesterday. This is about the games. This is a small problem. We had the same problems in atlanta and other cities. With twoad one stall commodes in it. No divider. This is russia . Did you expect fivestar accommodations . It is in the middle of nowhere. But they build all of this. Official. S not the flame is already live. We will just see it being lit. Red hat you get a total cost of 45 billion . They did not build 50 stadiums. There is a lot going on in russia. Great point. They had decreed a lot of snow. You print all the pictures of putin. They said the road from betraying patient into the olympics village could have been paid one centimeter that thick with caviar or the amount supposedly cost. We have been talking about coffee. Hold the beverage appliance. It has been unwelcome news for soda stream. Their stock fell. The stock did rebound and there is a little bit of talk that this could potentially pressure pepsi to make an offer for soda stream and make some sort of partnership. Analysts have not had that chance out. The talk is out there. This could potentially happen. It is funny how the market would force the deal. How often do you see that . It is full extent. I do not think they are worried about it. If you look at pepsi, most of their revenue is in food and lesson beverages. They care more about what is going on inproduct. You can tell by the taste of pepsi. I do not know about that. Used tointeresting watch these Small Companies go out and forge relationships. Somethingto create that was not there before and then Big Companies come in and swallow them up. That is simply what you are seeing. That is such a big deal that they can get to cold beverages with the system. From a chemistry perspective, how do you make a carbonated power . You do not. It is friday afternoon and it is time to say weve had a good week. We are not done yet. We will not go anywhere. Back, matt will talk about bitcoin plunging. He has all the details. Apple on the market. There is a lot to talk about here before we kick off the weekend. Apple surprises the markets with a big buyback. Who is next . Just so were all on the same page, weve been talking about this all day. Apple, in the past two weeks, bought 14 billion worth of stock. That is a lot of stock. That is about 3. 0 of the total shares available. That is like 78 annualized. Sometime in the middle of next spring, apple would have effectively gone private. They would have bought all their stock back. What a concert when you think about apple, the largest stock in the world. Why did they do it . Because it works. There is a buyback index. It invests only in companies that announce big buyback. Compare this index to the s p 500. It is almost double what the s p is. It is simple. If a company is buying back stock, you want to be that stock as well. Stock, be shares for earning go up. The point is, the proof is in the pudding. Else hasto know who big buyback in place. Here is what we did. We looked at the s p 500 and we screen for buyback that have been announced in the past three months. They were at least 10 of the float. We found 12 and there they are. Boeing, caterpillar, cisco. They all the stop. I know i went through them quickly. I just posted them on twitter. Those are your 12 buyback stocks. Thank you adam. Coming up, bitcoin is down. The story behind the double whammy. Any band that has nothing but hits. We will show you some never before seen photos of the beatles. Bitcoin plunged today after a major Tokyo Exchange halted sales of the currency for technical issues. Bitcoin himself is here. I think the high on mt. G ox850. They came down. It was a big draw. Rob. Drop. It was a big, big drop. For good reason. They stopped allowing withdrawals in the exchange. To get an idea of how much volume they cancel, we have a high chart. Over 50 of all the global trade go through them. If you cannot get your money out , it is a serious issue. All they said was that it was a technical issue. Repetitive statement in the worst english i read in a long time. They said that there were technical problems. They needed a cause on withdrawals. It sounded like they were stuffing money in a suitcase and running off. When i heard and read on the andoin foundation. Org board on reddit is that the software ox isis used to run mt. G not sophisticated enough to deal with hightraffic trade. They do not Work Together well. Apparently it is not the best. That is a problem and it erodes confidence. Doesnt that speak to a bigger problem . You have a new currency, a currency were everything is conducted online. If the bank closes, you have a recourse. This is in tokyo. Of a bank closed in tokyo, would there be enough nation . Markexplanation question explanation . The Banking System in tokyo is very old. The regulations as the mist around for a long time. This is a nascent currency. A lot of people who are believers in the bitcoin movement has strongly been against mt. Gox for a while. Why do so much volume go through there . There are people who use it as a currency and there are people who believe in it. They do not use it through there. , that isnal traders where they are going. Which nordic country classified it quite as a commodity . Sweden, finland. Who knows the difference between any of those countries . I think that it was a tradable commodity. I believe russia just made it illegal, by the way. Par for the course. Quite a lot of countries have classified as a commodity. A lot of investors see it as a commodity. That depends on your definition of currency. Gox isint is that mt. Having issues and that drive the price down. A lot of people have been contacting me to ask, how can i buy bitcoin . It is not drop that far. I want to point out that one of the problems is it is difficult to use bitcoin in the apple ecosystem. Apple said they would no longer allow a wallet for it. It was the last software you could use on your phone. Apple maybe has its own payment system. Maybe has a deal with another Payment Company . Even star trek have a card you can load. Who knows why apple make the decisions that apple does. They are so secretive about everything. Is, it is hard to use bitcoin now with that and write apple phone. We have video of someone shooting his i dont because he was so angry about it. We have had this whole conversation about bitcoin and several dollars are sitting on the desk. I have some oldfashioned currency. I am a proponent of bitcoin. Is weakness in emerging markets a problem or an opportunity . Just call him them the rging merging subme markets. The latest employment report in the u. S. Can we sustain that right . Will he keep going . We are joined by a guest who is an asset manager. Been say thereve scott, you say theres been a lot of overreaction. Seems certainly what we have seen in the past few weeks has been going on for months. It is understandable. So many people went into emerging markets approaching at as an asset class. Theyve been getting out of it in the same way. There is good and bad. There is a problem story as well as a good area. Concern is rising across the board. That is an opportunity for countries like brazil and mexico Going Forward will stop you feel similarly. What big issues will we see in emerging markets . We saw a lot of issues in the emerging markets. I am not sure they are all solved. Stocks are lower. A lot of those countries all of them that is unfair. They are having slower growth. The developed world, many countries will have stronger growth. Therein lies some of the problems with emerging markets. Longterm, i do not understand how they will grow the longterm without the emerging markets. One of the fascinating things we have noticed that emerging markets stocks were crossed. If you exclude argentina venezuela, they were off. Why do you have a difference . Theres definitely a big difference between what the attraction is from a bond perspective and from an equity first active. Perspective. There is a higher degree of inflation. Is low andally want stable growth. Deval patrick do not decline. You do not want to see any inflation. The markets are beginning to differentiate between the impact on the growth rate versus the debt metrics. Many of those stories are pretty good stories. Inflation is declining from a higher level. Other adjustments are taking place to improve the credit worthiness. It is good from a buying perspective. Central banks in many cases, particularly in brazil and mexico, they will not be hiking interest rates. Is going tot growth be slower in emerging markets. The you are seeing on equity side is people beginning to price for longer than they were six months ago. When you talk about that slowdown, we have seen some of these countries come out and react to the central banks. Are there countries where you think they are going to be more successful . Common oversimplify answer is that if you use that dividing line, that is the current surplus. That is probably ok. The current deficit probably struggle from a growth in equity standpoint. I would differ with scott on the particulars. Thank you so much. Talking about emergent market. We will stick with that conversation. We sure well. There are a lot of steps that are enabling you to trade in emerging markets. We will bring in our man from princeton. Which ones do you like . Etfhey were talking about rates. 20 billion has gone out in the last year. There are some undertaking in cash. These are the next generation of emerging market etf. Version. Imply a better in the same country allocations and index. But it is cheaper. It is 18 basis points. Who doesnt like that . It is broader. It is deeper. Broader blanket over the emerging markets. 3 billion has gone into this. Theyld got onto a land and that this is bigger. A smallcapest dividend. Em, this isu own a weighted by dividends. It will take the edge off of a smallcap. You getrt of this a lot of other emerging markets like malaysia and taiwan. In a way, this is like a domestic demand and a mercenary one additional one that is growing we have talked about this. Some people say it is smaller than that, like vietnam. Or nigeria. That have been a lot better. I is taking in about 4 million. Some people argue that this is where murder markets were in the late 90s. This is not an emerging market either. It had an association with the biggest developed market. We are talking about where we go. Theres a lot of concern about where puerto rico is in various Municipal Bond holdings. It has been a popular place. How do you get your munis in puerto rico . Your munibond at prospectus, it says that they will invest in faith and territories. There are about four or five etf that have more than a 10 gain in puerto rico exposure. Arm rotaryts holding go . 18 are in puerto rico. That is insane. That is a lawsuit waiting to happen. That that is what i thought, but heres the catch. These are aa in sure order rico bonds. In sure though these are aa. That kind of makes it a different story. There is more that the guy. Eye. At meets the these are the real high yield bonds. You expected there. We have to dig deep and find out about the credit quality others for rico bonds. Ricoder rico puerto bonds. I visited the second best performing etf. It just goes to show that there are some different stories. Investors are trying to get in early. 18 on the year so far. It is doing great this year.
