Golden says he juju moms really going off on one then I realize fate Spain I'm weak now since the 1st British troops arrived in the Caribbean as part of our room and the disaster relief effort is now well under white last night's Dzogchen is by to deputy chief of staff of the U.K.'s joint Alice falls delivering humanitarian aid to the region group caps in Neil Jones who. On the ground since last Friday evening I was we've been here nearly a week the relief effort pretty much happened straight away as soon as we got on the ground it took us 3 days we had over a 1000 personnel and we were operating out of 6 designated points a presence getting out into the community finding out what people wanted what people needed we've been opening airports we've been getting food getting water we working alongside other government departments defeat on the phone and come off of this. To find out when the stand what it is that those people on the ground are so devastated by this absolutely incredible feat of nature to find out what it is they want what it is they need so that we can absolutely to to the point of where we can offer and aid to those people on the ground a lot of that is through providing information back so that we can find out what they want but also is the ability for us to get you know food water forward your list opportunity so we've been here you know as you say only for a week I must admit that days and weeks here are measured in hours so the amount of stuff that's gone on in what is a relatively short time is absolutely incredible and it's a testament to you know to all the military and civilian organizations that we've been with alongside and in terms of the local populations requirements the needs what have those key areas been well it's food and mortar you know is the 1st instance what we're particularly keen on doing is is making sure that we're understanding what it is that they want while sometimes on operations of this nature the good good will and the well meaning individuals just putting in certain types of aid might not be necessarily what it is that the community wants so I think what's key for us this morning and what is it that they want is a shelter kits is it food is it water is it. Local government providing them with security if you can simply given the opportunity to get the yeah port open so that they can actually bring their boat keeping equipment to you know that location so I think that's what would be essential is working alongside those agencies to make sure that we deliver any sort of form to do what they want and so we've got people along like you're going to. If you work on all the islands working with make sure that what we could have what the public actually want green cabs in jazz describes the biggest challenges the current sales force is facing a mole on foreign secretary Boris Johnson's response to his recent visit to the area. Bring it back. On. The way. Out. For a. Pleasure. To . Come over you. See. A The Weiss like. A connect stage now as we were hearing earlier jejune as has been speaking to a great Captain Niel gents. Chief of Staff of the U.K.'s joint task force delivering humanitarian aid to the Caribbean in the wake of Hurricane Omma She also asked them what some of the biggest challenges facing the efforts of Maine operations of this nature always challenging in relation to the time distance and speed calculations that we are a long way from home we weren't operating from a standing start because we are famous but I was out here as soon as the 1st Olmert pass through we were able to get British aid British servicemen and women on to the ground to provide support you know as soon as we physically couldn't assume it was safe to do so not only for ourselves but obviously particularly safe for the people that were coming in to help the main challenge just in the distance we're operating you know across a range of over a 1000 miles it is 26 different islands that we're having to offer support from afar to give you some sort of graphical representation of that we're operating in in an area that takes us from the north of Scotland to the north of Spain that just give you some idea and we managed to generate that 3 and a half days because now we are in country with stabilising the u.k. Forces that are actually brought here not there for means that we are able to understand better and again bring you back to that in a really key point we're able to target the elite that we're getting into the specific locations to make sure that we're delivering exactly what it is those people want to do the ground now we're hearing the problem I have 1000 u.k. Armed forces personnel with you in the Caribbean is that number likely to rise well I'm always reviewing the numbers that we have on the ground I'm just making sure that. The troops that we're looking to bring into the operation match the needs of the mission that we're actually trying to achieve out on the ground so there are still forces rolling in there are still helicopters that we're bringing out from from the u.k. Of course we have a chain of ocean who is. Steals here as Forces she can to get on station so yes u.k. Forces numbers will change and they will rise to meet the mission said that we have a here and that is a known quantity and has been. For some time but clearly we're bringing all those individuals that are specifically targeted to deliver that specific aid on to the ground as soon as we can now the last couple of days we've seen pictures hair on the news the foreign secretary Boris Johnson being shown some of the work that's been going on I know you've been very actively involved with that visit What will he be bringing back to the u.k. In terms of what he's seen what he's learned foreign secretary when he came out was genuinely concerned for all the issues that have been going on here in the aftermath of all of the hurricanes and so to be able to preach such a senior minister you know what the British mission is going to produce responses just make sure that the key message in the mission set that we are aiming to achieve much is exactly what the minister defense was back in the u.k. And more and more importantly we are achieving and we are hitting the strategic games in the street the strategic goals of the u.k. Government to make sure that the support that we offer is exactly the support that is needed so he was particularly complementary about everything that's been going on so far and understandably was quite shocked as we all are at the level of devastation that we've seen across the region here jejune as with a great cast and nail Johns deputy chief of staff of the U.K.'s Joint Task fostering humanitarian aid to the Caribbean in the wake of hurricane a Wherever you are in the forces welled with them with.
