I know you Brits love queuing all right and that's your thing and that's OK We've all got to think all right but that's ridiculous and somebody right here on to us and aren't making that link in this because I think there are some of these pieces even in the weather apocalypse the English respect an orderly queue. No you need to be virgin I was walking How is it like what's 3 days in a rug and they could Ewing to walk on the chance to get what I think is going to happen like how do they think the puddle is it looks like the puzzle might be at least 2 inches deep oh wow you don't really do a victory did disappear on a I was wrong with a polo Oh right next story I'm getting ready here in the red is red a me. Flying 1st class with that is your job anyways. Flight Director for his space mission so we're going to catch up with Libby next find out all about her cool job and. What it meant to be will basically in the area of Tim Page as he went into space right this is a bungee now give you some Friday feels F. Forces Radio B F B S I'll Sleep When I'm dead. he says the best from the amazing album keep the faith and he's gone J B B F B S We out visiting his image to find out a little bit more about Libby Jackson who is the human space flight and microgravity program manager for the U.K. Space agency on the way for you next and I got a pretty inching from Max Still to come this. Is full season. Premier. For you. Business As any. Claim. Such a claim. Can. Claim A. a full year basis in research has revealed the colonization plans of U.K. Children on the final frontier space and as it turns out their lives. Green space explorers as well and she's my next guest Libby Jackson who is the human spaceflight microgravity program manager for the U.K. Space agency that's a pretty cool job it is a pretty good job. About this research that's happened also some saying in the Science Museum group of put this together as part of the tour that's going on spacecraft the Soyuz capsule is on tour around the way and they were curious what did children think when you think about exploring the earth should we do how should that planet look like and it's been brilliant they really have thought about it and they've seen that yes you've got to take food and water but really you need to power this thing with with solar energy and it should be run by mum and dad or maybe democracy if you want to get out of this is that our young generation really cares about our planet they care about the future they want everyone to live together peacefully and I think that is a great message and we've got some hope for the future of our planet and any others that we might go and explore definitely if we can't have a quick chat about your role I mean it sounds pretty epic You must get a lot of street cred with that on your passport so tell me a little bit about the day to day of a human space flight microgravity program manager for the U.K. Well we are a part of the European Space Agency's exploration program and that includes the International Space Station and lots of different facilities on earth who we get to mimic bits of space and my job really is coordinating everything that we do around that making sure that the scientists the engineers who develop experiments who are wanting to run experiments in space have everything they need so that so I look after budgets and schedules really it's just my job to keep everything moving in the right direction and I let all the really clever people go into the experiments in space now you were one of our own you were the flight director space mission that must have been. A huge achievement for you to see. I've been passionate about space my whole life particularly human spaceflight and as I was growing up I remember Helen Sherman's mission. But really thought that human spaceflight wasn't something I could work in because at the time the U.K. Didn't do it. Shifted we are now part of as I say the exploration program say for me to be at the very center of working for the U.K. Space agency as I was chairing Tim's mission and now it's a dream come true it really is and all I ever want to share with people is that if I can do this anyone can everybody has a passion in life you know something they really enjoy doing and whether it's science or engineering or anything else go and find a job and go and enjoy things because we don't have to go to work every day so why not do something you enjoy and it's very clear that Jackson just loves what she does she is the program manager for the U.K. Spice agency human spaceflight and microgravity now we're going to be back with Libby Jackson after this. a Jew No Music Award for we're going to be hearing loads more from William Prince here Forces Radio. All right I got a classic from Michael Jackson to play off to this but if you have just joined us we have been talking to the incredible live in Jackson who is the human space flight and microgravity program manager for the U.K. Space agency now this is because Tim pigs' spacecraft. T.M.A. 19 spacecraft is now on to i here in the U.K. Pick up the details with Jackson now we have many many people listening to this right around the volunteering their time as Stam ambassador and you're really clearly passionate about it so how can we inspire kids especially young STEM careers. It's really important I think that young people start understanding how much science and technology is around us every day everything we touch everything we pick up whether it's our mobile phone or door mechanism all of these things have been designed by somebody they've been manufactured and built using whatever you can whether that space or airplanes or whatever it is people are interested in to think about science and technology just gets people understanding how much of a part of our everyday lives it is I think is also really important that we encourage particularly when you think about the really young people he start seeing people talk about subjects and boy subjects and treating girls and boys differently and that doesn't help anyone because we all use technology engineering is somewhere for everybody we want girls and boys to be a part of it and say making sure that everyone understands the science and technology perfectly fine for everybody to be involved with then we will do very well where did you start them I've always been fascinated by space I don't remember really what kicked me off but I know that the men in the stars were a great fascination to me and as I grew up I started to discover that there was space industry that you could work in this area and I was lucky I had supportive parents who encouraged me and perhaps as I was growing up it was a time when maybe you didn't think that all of these things were for them and I was told then of don't worry about it off you go you can go and do it and that's what we need everybody to see is that they can go and do anything they set their mind to and no one should be telling anyone they can't do it whatever Label Society wants to stick on in has nothing to do with which jobs you can follow here here well said Jackson All right now mums and dads listening to this not just around the forces up and down the U.K. As well getting to the pool the hair out of the head stage of the school holidays you've got a great. Suggestion for them this week and right yeah go and see Soyuz capsule it's going to be in Peterborough from this weekend it's going to be in Cardiff from November Belfast in February it is the spacecraft that went to the International Space Station in and came back it's a model of engineering you can see the scorch marks on it while it's tiny You'd be amazed at the size of it had 3 people in it and alongside that Sampson who put together a brilliant virtual reality simulator why you can strap on the headset and get a feeling for what it was like to come back to Earth in the spacecraft great fun really recommended I have done it in both London and York and if you're anywhere near by it's worth making the trip to go see it sounds fantastic of the Q I reckon . Now where can people go for some more information to keep tabs on where the spacecraft is going to be they can head to Samsung U.K. And certainly if you chop. Some some toy into a search engine you'll find everything you need tonight pair fags and lastly before we let you go Libby I've got any messages for our forces audience cheers to find whatever is you enjoy in life and A for it tell you why she's quite possibly got the coolest job on the planet human spaceflight microgravity program manager U.K. Space agency it's live in Jackson thank you thank you.
