What does this mean for the economy, in your opinion . It will absolutely slow down the expected recovery that we were hoping for this year. A lot of businesses will have difficult conditions that pile onto the legacy of last years tough cash flow environment. Probably until the end of january. And what does that mean . It is the situation that we last saw in england, namely that all nonessential stores will remain closed and that people are allowed to go to work, that any social activities must be brought down and the open question right now is to what to do with schools. Christmas holidays have been extended for schools and the big question is will they extend these School Holidays until the end of january extend these School Holidays until the end ofjanuary or will they reopen school and allow parents to go back to work . In terms of support for business, what is in place at the moment and will that be increased . Weve not had any announcement about an increase. What is in place is a very extensive furlough scheme which had already been extended until the end of 2021. We still have very comfortable support schemes for companies, loans and direct support but we have also seen many problems in implementing these government schemes. Looking at november when we saw the second lockdown, Many Companies were offered direct grants but these gra nts offered direct grants but these grants have not been paid out yet so this will only happen in january. There is a bit of a delay, many administrative hurdles to really get to the money and we will have to hear today whether there could be an extension of the support schemes. The big question for germany and all European Countries will be how to deal with a wave of insolvencies that will probably come. And in terms of the outlook for the german economy, youre a huge input into the european budget, what is the outlook . We had a contraction in the fourth quarter, that is very likely, and a weak start to the new quarter which means that probably for economists, a technical recession with two contractions in a row. Fourth quarter 2020 and the First Quarter 2020 and the First Quarter 2021 and then, as in all other economies with a further rolling out of the vaccine and higher temperatures, the economy will pick up and accelerate from the Second Quarter onwards but we will have to wait until summer, the second half of the year to see a significant and strong recovery unfold. Many fans are now hoping the arrival of vaccines will mean festivals can go ahead this year but organisers are having to make decisions now as to whether it will be viable to hold events. Leaders in the sector in the uk will give evidence before a Parliamentary Select Committee today, which is looking to draw up a blueprint for reviving live music. Many in the sector are calling on the government to introduce an Insurance Scheme similar to the one put in place in germany, so that planning can begin without the fear of organisers being left high and dry if events have to be cancelled yet again. Now im just looking at some data from the association of independent festival saying that 50 of the workforce could actually face redundancy if there is not something in place for them in terms of support. Absolutely true. We are very, very concerned. The festival industry is ready and waiting for the green light to but we totally understand until it is safe to do so. But working with Government Departments to find ways of mounting festivals in 2021. We not expecting much to happen in the early part of the season but we do hope that by middle season, we should be hopefully getting somewhere back to normal. And this is the difficulty is entered for people who organise huge events such as glastonbury for example. The lack of visibility given last nights live broadcast from the Prime Minister as to the months ahead. You cannot invest huge amounts of money into an event that may not go ahead. Indeed. Ive got a great deal of respect for the family, they do a fantasticjob. They trailblazers and lead the way for many other festivals but their planning cycle is a whole year. And we are already well into that. They have a really tough decision to make. I dont think they are ready to make it just yet. It will be sometime before we hear from glastonbury i think. As for the other festivals, well, they are somewhere in the region of 975 Music Festivals in the country. We represent about 1110. My colleague paul reid at aif represents another hundred or so. And together we have been working hard to try to make the 2020 once season back to normal. But it is really not going to be possible until we get Something Like an insurance policy in place. We need government assistance to do that and we are discussing this with dcms at the moment. Understand today that that is the hope for your industry today, the outcome youre looking for. Is that all you need from the government, the insurance in place, or are there other additional measures . There will be of measures. We certainly need to Public Health england on our side. We desperately need the scientists to give us a clue. For instance, what percentage of the Adult Population needs to be vaccinated before government can allow large crowds to cover again. Is it 100 is that 60 . We dont know at this stage. We have looked into Rapid Testing and im afraid it is falling off the agenda a little. Though, there are some organisations looking at the possibility that Rapid Testing on site might be possible. There are some one or to make tests being achieved. But in the main, the insurance and the very generous cut in vat that the government planted our way down to 5 from the 20 meant that we could at least sell tickets and save some funds which would then go some way towards paying a very large insurance premium. Here is that north easterly wind blowing across the north sea, and you can see those showers affecting east anglia and the south east. Can be quite grey and wet both in the morning and in the afternoon here. Elsewhere, i think a mixture of sunshine, and occasional rain, and wintry showers. But the further west you are, the better the weather will be. Belfast, ithink, swansea, plymouth in for some sunshine but chilly, 3 5 celsius briefly in the afternoon, and then very quickly, those temperatures will drop during the course of the Late Afternoon and evening. And you can see, that north easterly wind continues through the course of tuesday and also into wednesday. And that weather pattern is pretty evident here. You can see the isobars pointing out at the north east, due south west, and thats how the wind blows. So, once again on wednesday, its copycat conditions. Again, that extreme south eastern portion of the uk can be quite grey and wet at times with those persistent showers. Best of the weather will be in the west, but notice a weather fronts approaching there, the far north west of scotland. So, some rain there, i think, for our friends in stornoway. But still wednesday night, were expecting another widespread frost across the uk. Temperatures in many areas will be well below freezing, down to 5 even, in bigger towns and cities, and you can see how chilly it remains in some of the bigger cities over the next few days.
