Hello and welcome to our look ahead to what the the papers will be bringing us tomorrow. With me are the Political Editor of the sunday mirror and sunday people, nigel nelson and the political commentator, jo phillips. Nigels but case is getting a lot of mes commentary on social media. Nigels bookcase is getting a lot of commentary on social media. Tomorrows front pages starting with. The mail on sunday has declared the 4th ofjuly the day britain smiled again, as after more than three months, pubs, restaurants, hairdressers and cinemas were able to fling open their doors, couples could tie the knot, and friends and loved ones could meet indoors. Not the whole of britain. The observer has heard from nhs bosses who accuse the chancellor rishi sunak of refusing to give a ten billion pound cash injection to help the nhs tackle a second wave of coronavirus in what the paper calls a major about turn. The telegraph says that the Prime Minister is planning to phase out huaweis involvement in the uks sg network, as soon as this year. That story features on the front of the times, which also has news of an investigation into the uk workers it says are paid well below the minimum wage for making clothes destined for fashion giant boohoo. The sunday mirror has spoken to a friend of ghislaine maxwell, who says while she maintains her innnocence, knew she would be approached by police, as a result of Prince Andrews interview with newsnight. The independent leads on claims of gaping holes in the governments new Domestic Abuse bill, meaning many women will still have no escape from their abusers. So lets begin. Lets start with the sunday paper. Bruising for britain. Drinkers spent £210 million as pubs finally reopened. Look what they are wearing. Send a people. Quite some get up to go to the pub. That is right. I suppose after 105 days will publish it, you want to make a bit of a spectacle out of it when you do go back. Thats what the pubs close down. That millions of pounds is 60 million more than pubs would normally take in a weekend which is more than they would take before lockdown began. Interesting to see how they cope with those sapping to this mask. Stepping through. It will be a rarefied experience going to the pop if you are following the guidelines are meant to follow when you get there. Exactly. There have been other photographs and tv earlier this evening where it is quite clear that people are not following social distancing rules. And as you have entered the pint or whatever, you get closer and closer and the noise gets louder and louder and the noise gets louder and louder and it is quite difficult i think to see how that can be properly policed, particularly if you are indoors. It is not so difficult outside but the howling girls and a lot of brilliant weather, it is more trying for bar systems i think. They send a mail continues with this thing come after 100 to four days at their life on hold, hairdressers and pubs have opened up a couple can finally get married. We have james and lucy bowen who got married in northumberland and they put out there waiting from in the year. The day britain smiled again. But of course, scotland, Northern Ireland and wales have been going at a different pace from england. Absolutely. 0f different pace from england. Absolutely. Of course leicester is locked down locally as you alluded to earlier. This is not blanket in any more than the rate of infection is blanket. There are hotspots around the country and around the whole country and wales in scotland are going at a different pace. And much more cautious pace particularly in scotland. And i think many people, although it is important that life returns to some sort of normality, i think people are generally still quite nervous although i have to say i am so excited i have an appointment to get my haircut next week. Excited i have an appointment to get my haircut next weeklj excited i have an appointment to get my haircut next week. I am sorry to hear that. Im rather liking the longer look. Nigel, you look like you had your hair cut. But im sure you had your hair cut. But im sure you havent. Is it a diy you had your hair cut. But im sure you havent. Is it a dionb . You had your hair cut. But im sure you havent. Is it a diy job . My wife did for me twice during lockdown. We bought a pair of clippers online. It is work rather well. I desperately need some attention. I waiting for my hairdresser to get back to me. When i want to do really is drive to the midlands and give my mum and dad a hug but i cannot. I havent seen them since march. It is my dads birthday today. Happy birthday, dad. A lot of people are telling me that they dont really feel like changing they dont really feel like changing the guidance and deviating from the guidance very far even now even though they can. Yet businesses are crying out for us to go and spend some money with them. It is a difficult conundrum. It is. The whole thing is basically a balancing act. And quite clearly we have to try and reopen the economy, now i dont think that the measures at the moment under the restrictions we have now will ignited, but at least it might get it smoldering again. So you develop the two things between getting people out about you spending some money and you have a statement from the chancellor on wednesday where he will try and encourage people to spend, maybe we will see a cut in vat there, but all the way through, caution has to be the way through, caution has to be the byword, and quite clear there area the byword, and quite clear there are a lot of people who are still uncomfortable about the idea of lockdown being raised quite this early. Reflective very much on the observer front early. Reflective very much on the observerfront page. Early. Reflective very much on the observer front page. They say that oui nerves are observer front page. They say that our nerves are very covid 19 hi think what is described as super saturday. Yes. A poll there same 52 think saturday. Yes. A poll there same 5296 think reopening pubs now is too hasty. If few weeks ago we can go back into those nonfood shops come it felt very odd to me to go into a diy shop and buy something other than essential food items. Diy shop and buy something other than essentialfood items. We kind of got used to this strange new existence, relatively quickly in some ways. I know. And in some ways it was easier although it was very difficult and very hard not to see family and had the human physical contact. But in some ways it was easier for people to deal with not being able to do anything. And i think we are now in this rather sort of awkward tight rope where to a certain extent the government is handing over at responsibilities to us, the general public, to behave sensibly. Which is fine, but there is something rather, i dont know i feel slightly embarrassed about the englishness of wanting people to go back to boozing and shopping only still cannot get children back into school properly. It is all very well to get people out and going out to buy clothes and Everybody Needs to do that and we all understand the economy have to get moving again, but there are still things that need fixing, care homes need fixing, there are people on waiting list to go to hospitals who may remain on those waiting list for months to come. And it does seem it is all very well putting this force on it and it is very much the start of borisjohnson that and it is very much the start of Boris Johnson that everything will be absolutely fine, but there is something a little bit i dont know, little un scenery this desire to get back to steph that most of us and most people have been saying they discovered other things and discovered other things and discovered you dont need to go shopping or need to go out to a pub every night and you save money and you do other things instead. It will be interesting to see how it works out. Lets look at the sunday telegraph. Huawei faces 5g ban within months. This is the Chinese Telecom company dose was to be deeply involved in the new 5g network but now gchq here having second thoughts. Yes. We have seen this one coming. They have decided that huawei could be a danger if they are able to get their hands on they are able to get their hands on the sg they are able to get their hands on the 5g network. And the sunday telegraph are saying that Boris Johnson might reverse that decision with the next six months. Hes also under great political pressure and the problem we have obviously is china, our relationships with china have cooled somewhat partly because of the hong kong situation but also because of the way that china has been using the covid 19 crisis to increase its power. While we did have a commitment made to it though bya have a commitment made to it though by a britain that there would be involvement and they say in this article we have been absolutely transparent and we are safe to be trusted. Well, they would say that, wouldnt they . But of course what has changed is that the american sanctions against huawei, they cannot now use staff that they would have been using before, the technology. So imagine what they are now going to be using if indeed it goes ahead is untested and untested technology, and that in a way i think is a get out for the government, so they can say this is not the deal that we agree to because you are not using the same set of equipment. I think interesting it will put huge pressure on diplomatic relations as nigel said, we have already got attention over the crackdown in hong kong, but we are in the uk a very difficult point, the government has got to try and balance its relationships with the rest of the world whether we are heading for brexit and, whether there will be a President Biden in the white house in november, and how do we manage this and also with all of the emphasis that the government and the chancellor put on rebuilding, and a lot of that investment would have expected to have come from china, so they have got to to tread a tight rope but theres also been a huge backbench rebellion and real concerns about security in this country. Lets look to the sunday mirror. An exclusive for one of your papers. Prince andrew tv and if he was the end for me. This incident ghislaine maxwell, a friend, saying that she insist that she is innocent, she knew that the police would come a knocking. Yes. What is interesting about this is this is the fallout from that Prince Andrew car crash interview with emily maitlis. Whoever advised him to do that should get out of the immediately. And according to laura goldman, this friend of ghislaine maxwell, at that point, she knew that the fbi would come calling and there was not much he could do about it but she had advised Prince Andrew do not do the interview and i think as it turned out that it was a very good advice. He has now retreated from public life ready mixed totally. Yes, indeed. But it is difficult to see how he can retain his silence if this goes to court which im sure it will do. There are still a lot of questions that he has to answer. And you were a sort of think actually that for his mother say, she is 94 for goodness sakes, this is a horrible cloud hanging over herand this is a horrible cloud hanging over her and whatever people might think about Prince Andrew, i dont think about Prince Andrew, i dont think the queen has done anything to deserve this. Lets finish with the sunday times. Until spring and summer sunday times. Until spring and summer of silver bullets, several bullets and nitrous oxide can a gas repellent which can be used to frost cream and soups and things but that is not why they are selling so well. No. That is why chris palma, the owner of a manchester catering supply was rather surprised when he got an order for 38,000 bottles of this stuff. And he realised that it wasnt a huge thing a whip cream. We offer nitrous oxide. Sometimes called laughing gas. This is stuff that you see all over the streets anywhere and where i live along the sea anywhere and where i live along the sea front, it is there. The Little Silver canisters. It is not technically speaking illegal because it is used for catering as we just had and also use legitimately and medical procedures. And i gather that it medical procedures. And i gather thatitis medical procedures. And i gather that it is quite easy for people to get hold of it. Although it is not supposed to be used for human consumption. While clearly it is being used for human consumption. Apparently it makes people high, but also has some very nasty side effects. And it is creating a lot of literary so i think people are quite worried and i think the government is looking at the ruling on it because it is always been controversial. They have been littering parks where i have been this summer nigel. I have seen these things all over the place. Ifeel rather sorry for chris palmer. There he is trying to run a perfectly legitimate catering business, and suddenly hes getting these huge orders in which come from criminals and he spreading all his time an e mail trying to block them now. Nigel, joe, thank you both for joining us again tonight. Still cant get used to this bit of not seeing you in the flesh. |j cant get used to this bit of not seeing you in the flesh. I know.
