Banned, it doesnt happen very often. Think about smoking. Never very often that people are smoking ona train very often that people are smoking on a train or underground or a bus. They think that most people want to do the right thing in the peer pressure im not doing it is another aspect of all of this, so they are really relying on that although ultimately, you wont be allowed to travel. That is up to the staff was that British Transport Police eventually as well. Interesting to in quite some to get to this point. Seven which said that a sense said con, the london mayor, called for this. Seven weeks to the date that said decon. The Prime Minister has spoken about this and talk openly about the fact that it doesnt make that much different. They are admitting today there is a limited impact in terms of your health but it is partly about giving people confidence that it is safe to go back to particular credit public transport because there have been concerns that people are anxious, they have watched everything for the last three months, and some people are scared to go out. And scared to go on public transport and think this might help. There is a bit of a regional and National Element to this at the moment at least. Yes. We we re this at the moment at least. Yes. We were hearing from grant schapps that he was saying that this is england only but he hopes that the devolved administrations will follow suit and we have heard conversations going on elsewhere around the uk and scotland wales in Northern Ireland about what they might do, not least because you get the inevitable questions that have tumbled under the direction of him today around what happens if youre ona him today around what happens if youre on a train from edinburgh to london. It will be intriguing to see explicitly what we get out of edinburgh and belfast. Grant said in this recent experience everybody kinds of ends up in the same place on stuff like this. There will be a lot of help from the travelling public. You will not be able to miss the signs at the posters telling you to do this. It sounds like there will be spared mask on hand. If you forget. Imagine trying to get the work and you forget to do it. The spare mask. Short busjourneys work and you forget to do it. The spare mask. Short bus journeys and short journey to spare mask. Short bus journeys and shortjourney to london but you think about getting on a train, kristi yorkshire, me to cornwall, for five hours with a mask on. It will be a quite operating. You expect everybody to get clouded up. A design flaw. Another thing i noticed that the train station is now, so noticed that the train station is now, so many more noticed that the train station is now, so many more bits courted not for the staff to standing, hand sanitiser stations in the all over the place to wash her hands and a lot of staff kind of pointing you in the right direction. We are not back to normal and even when we do start travelling again in that way, it is not as it was. People looking around think everything is back to normal lockdown its finished. It is not. Even when youre travelling in this way, it is completely different to what we were doing three months ago. It will be like this for ages as well, isnt it . Remind us what else is happening on the 15th ofjune in england. Nonessential retail is opening. You still can get a haircut . No. That is 4th ofjuly at the earliest despite the speculation. A lot still not happening. If shops are opening up, workers have to get to those places of work. People will want to go to them and that is why the government says they are doing it now we spoke toa says they are doing it now we spoke to a few conservatives do you think wouldnt be in favour of this, telling people what to wear and actually the ones we spoke to our board with it. What needs to be done to any to be done they said. The trade unions seem to be happy about the idea of their staff during mask and the people there staff are interacting with wearing mask in that worried about the idea they will have to be telling people off. They seem to like the Health Benefits and are less worried about the enforcement. You thought there would be worried about the enforcement side of it but i suppose you have natural barriers in the sense up you have natural barriers in the sense up most things youre getting onto something. Imagine if there they stand off, that is always going to be an issue. But they are relying on people doing their duty. The government has worried that from the outset, people kind of over interpreted it plenty of the lockdown guidelines and were more compliant than perhaps the government was expecting at the start. I suppose that we kind of our self policing and all of this is grounded in that sense that a lot of people are very nervous about going out and this might help tempt them out. Vicki come up has popped on my phone an exclusive on the guardian website they have some leaks saying that the test and trace at might not be ready and working for everyone until september or october. We havent got any word from the government confirming or denying that story. They never talk about lea ks a nyway. That story. They never talk about lea ks anyway. What that story. They never talk about leaks anyway. What is your app thinking . It chimes with the sense we are getting. All that talk about the app, remember it is currently on the app, remember it is currently on the isle of wight and if he is like it will stay there. They have got a lot of people to take it up there but its going to be quite really. There was a rumour about a big announcement at the end of this week beginning of next, but i think it is really interesting that a lot of government insiders talk about it is, it is a nice to have come a cherry on the cake, but it is a bit ofan cherry on the cake, but it is a bit of an extra, quite easily do the test trace without it. And they point out which i think is the case that there is a lot of other countries that have opened up from lockdown without it, i think the problem they have slightly is that borisjohnson has problem they have slightly is that Boris Johnson has gone problem they have slightly is that borisjohnson has gone out talking about world beating systems. Which he didnt need to say that. Evidently not a well being system. It is not going to be better than some of those systems that are in asia. World beating system. They think they can carry on without her fit in with that. We dont know if it is september or october but it wouldnt be may be a huge surprise. Not happening. Laughter. Have you held that in for the last 12 weeks . I have. I have been working on it. Polishing it. And you are reports and might be delayed till september. And you got to use it now. Where is it . Here it comes. Which essay the business secretary who was spotted at the despatch box and has house of commons. Looking quite peaky. Jabbing his face. Commons. Looking quite peaky. Jabbing his face. Very sweaty. How is it turns out he is all right . He was there. How was he . He didnt look well at all. A spokesperson said he was isolating and everybody thought this is the moment where the coronavirus bridge this up again in the house of commons. But theyre all complaining about being back there. He has said he had the test, and it is negative. He is fine. All this week on the coronavirus newscast we have been sort of broadening our agenda as a college in newsrooms across the country and looking at just in newsrooms across the country and looking atjust some of in newsrooms across the country and looking at just some of the in newsrooms across the country and looking atjust some of the other big stuff happening in the world at the moment. With virus is the backdrop to everything. So monday tuesday and wednesday, it would look to everything. So monday tuesday and wednesday, with the be protesting the us after the death of george lloyd and the political reaction to that. Last night, there was this jaw dropping moment only got the statement from the British Police and the Portuguese Police and the German Police appealing for information on the public about the disappearance of Madeliene Mccann come at the 3 euros british girl who went missing on a family holiday in portugal 13 years ago. Three year old british girl. The German Police have a new suspect and it isa German Police have a new suspect and it is a guy in his 40s was behind bars at the moment for a different crime. I got this update from our brother correspondentjenny hill who is in germany where the police gave a press conference. The starkest thing to come out of that press co nfe re nce thing to come out of that press conference is the fact that investigators here in are convinced that madalyn Madeliene Mccann is that madalyn Madeliene Mccann is that it was killed by this man they are now saying that they suspect some of the chapel is meant in prison for some time here serving quite a lengthy sentence. And his back story is quite something, isnt it . It is. Today prosecutors have said that he is has got convictions for child sexual assaults, while he was in portugal he actually comes from the city here. They think he lived there for some time. He spent considerable amount of time in portugal and jump around in a camper van and during that time he was finding his lifestyle by burdening hotels and holiday accommodations. Driving around in a camper van. And drug dealer. He is in prison at the moment and the police say officially he is having a sentence for a sex crime, reportedly, that crime was the rape of a 72 year old American Woman who was in prior dilution and was attacked two years before my Madeliene Mccann disappeared from the same resort. This chapter according to the prosecutors here is somebody who is certainly been involved with some very serious crimes in the past. The police are to specific things, you mention vehicles but also phones, places where he lived. Yes. Last night, German Police went on a National Tv Show here. A bit like crime watch in britain for to getting the public to help them solve old cases. They were very keen to highlight a few different things, first of all it was a couple of properties which the man is said to have spent time in. Particular too far from from where he was before. They also release pictures of a camper but he is said to have used a lot. Ina camper but he is said to have used a lot. In a dark red jaguar. They are keen to have the public look at these and what is interesting is they are saying to people if you we re they are saying to people if you were in those places and it may april, may 2000 2000 2007 when madeliene disappeared, looked back to your holiday snaps. April or may 2007. You would have to do anything about it at the time. Right now, it could be really crucial information for us. That she wouldnt have to anything about it. I was confused this morning when they said their assumption was a little girl was dead, i did wondered if this a Murder Investigation or is it still a missing persons investigation, which is how it is sorta presented by the met police here in the uk. It was quite a shocking moment. When i watch this programme on tv last night, the detective said we think she is dead and again today the prosecutor said this is a murder inquiry as far as the German Police are concerned. They believe that Madeliene Mccann has been killed. A different to what we hear from Scotland Yard to say at the moment they dont have conclusive evidence as to whether she is alive or dead. You can only imagine how distressing this must be to her family. But there is a very stark difference in the way the two forces are present to but certainly here in germany as far as investigators are concerned, Madeliene Mccann was killed. Now lets talk to jim Madeliene Mccann was killed. Now lets talk tojim gamble, who was head of the child expectation and Online Protection Centre and was involved in one of the british investigations into Madeliene Mccann possible disappearance. Hello, jim. For all of us on wednesday night, this was like a low moment to come here existence was it like for you . It was a wall moment for me too. Whoa moment. Its been a Long Time Coming if all storms. We dont know what will happen but there seems to be more substance of this than any of the other announcements that i have seen or been involved with over the last 13 years. What do you think is making the German Police so confident because surely if they we re confident because surely if they were lacking confidence, they would have done this big thing . |j were lacking confidence, they would have done this big thing . I think the German Police and the portuguese and of course Scotland Yard have more information there they are sharing with us. But critically what you see is a strong circumstantial case and what that means is you look first of all if you have a suspect who has a motive. This man who is now 43 has been convicted of offe nces now 43 has been convicted of offences against girls before. So that puts him into that mode of category. He is also been involved in burglaries. You then say, woody f opportunity. We know from his telephone add that his phone was in close proximity to the place where the crime took place. Would he have had opportunity. And then you consider the subsequent conduct of the suspect in this case. So they day after madeliene went he change the Registration Number one of his cars. Each of the things in isolation might not be a big deal, but ta ken isolation might not be a big deal, but taken together, and they certainly provide you with a strong circumstantial case, and i think what the German Police who have worked with have asked in the past and new Scotland Yard what they are trying to do is give us more information in the hope that the public will be able to help them co operate some of the other information they have two get it to an avenue to a standard. There has been controversy about this partly because a lot of resources have gone into this investigation. Converted to a new standard. Some people say it was completely disproportionate. What do you say to people who think that is the case . |j understand why some people will look at this and think i have seen is said this is one missing child when there is literally hundreds of thousands every year. The truth is however there isnt. The Madeleine Mccann case is pretty unique with the exception perhaps of ben needham years before. Uk child going missing ina foreign years before. Uk child going missing in a foreign country whilst on holiday. The vast majority of children who go missing in the uk will go missing from a running away or lured away by friends but most of them will return within the first 48 to 72 hours. That is not to say that missing can be absent from home is ina risk missing can be absent from home is in a risk around exportation, but the Madeleine Mccann case is very different. And i think it has in gender split Public Opinion unlike any other case ive ever seen. And i think some of the social media content directed at the parents is amongst some of the worst harassment and bullying that ive seen in any case. Im intrigued by the tactic that you hinted at on behalf of the police there. That they would hold back some information from the Public Domain and might be aware of to try and flush out the corroborating information. Talk us to the rationale for that. Would it be that sense that it would be more independent and a second source if somebody comes along with information that they have already got a sense of from other people . Exactly. If i put words in your mouth, the evidential value of that is wholly diminished. But where i say to you here what we know, here isa say to you here what we know, here is a picture of this can prevent come here is a picture of this jaguar car, here is other information about a telephone number, buti information about a telephone number, but i dont get to all of that. If youre able to come back and say now that you mention it when i look back to that lens, i remember seeing that car parked up every day in this car park, a guy living rough in the back and he look like this. That is cooperation. And when i was say to anybody listening, to the show, if you were in portable and that year, not even around the week of the crime, and portable and 2007, we visit your holiday snaps. You dont know if you have. Click to that photograph you took. Perhaps in the background you will see a volkswagen van with a yellow skirt. You might see a very distinctive jaguar car. Or you might see a very distinctive jaguarcar. Ora you might see a very distinctive jaguar car. Or a blind you might see a very distinctive jaguar car. Ora blind man near it. This is what i think theyre trying to do. Get people to look through this lens. Ora blond haired man. And to prompt them to come forward. And to prompt them to come forward. And also to prompt people they suspect or know who have information who has not come forward yet. What do you make of this difference of description from a different country, because the germans make it sound very much like this is a murder inquiry, the brits make it sound like it is still a missing persons inquiry. What does that mean . The difference in emphasis i think is important. The germans are saying that working on the assumption she is dead and from a very pragmatic place thinking statistically this is the most likely outcome, or they know more then they are telling. I think the approach from Scotland Yard who i think are amongst the finest detectives in the world is the right one. Who are we to remove hope unless were in the position to say here is evidence that says the is dead . Her mum and dad have to get up every day, probably fuelled by the hopein every day, probably fuelled by the hope in the desperate hope that something good will come out of this, that madeleine will come home. And you dont want to extinguish that. So the German Police have done the wrong thing by saying that today . I dont want to criticise the German Police. I wouldnt have done it. I refuse to give up hope until there is evidence. And i think you half the translation that they are saying that they are working on the assumption so i think it is a difference in emphasis but my goodness, jerry and kate mccann already carrying a burden for a variety of reasons. And to layer this on before you are certain, i think come as to the pain that they currently suffer. Jim, thank you very much. A lot of coronavirus newscast consumers get in touch with me to tell me when they actually listen to this and so some people it is before bed, sometimes it isjust after you have woken up and actually does seem to be the two main times that people listen to us. Read into that people listen to us. Read into that which you will. But actually there is news about sleep in the coronavirus today. Kings College London have been a big survey and they found that 50 of people have had disturbed sleep during this period was of the that apply to either of you to . No, i love sleep. Nothing stops me sleeping. |j either of you to . No, i love sleep. Nothing stops me sleeping. I love sleep. But yes, definitely. Early on in the and that acute phase of things come it felt really emergency like. I wasnt sleeping as well. It wasnt that i was a big time worried about this but i suppose because all the destruction and i was putting that down to it. Chris, the 50 of people who had disturbed sleep. Me and vicki are in the 25 who said they were getting more sleep. Or better sleep. Which is good news. For us. Thats for you chris. University College London, sleep research is so hot, theyre calling for people to send in their dreams because some antidotal evidence people have been having much more vivid dreams. Did that apply to you . Yes. There were a couple of anxiety type dreams. It involved the zoom meetings with downing street. Ash cardiff list, we have to ask questions of the ministers in the Prime Minister he had to zoom in and there is a mute button thing going on in his high straight. This is a responsibility. I did have a dream where it was i was zooming in and i couldnt quite get off to work, and it wasnt just a normal one, couldnt quite get off to work, and it wasntjust a normal one, it wasnt just he it wasntjust a normal one, it wasntjust he Prime Minister, my boss katie was there, and donald trump. I couldnt make myself heard. That is when he came down to. Reverse ventriloquist. Chris, any vivid dream for you . Nightmares. Absolute nightmares. My fear is ending up on page 34 of garcia next week. I imagine the shame of that. My week. I imagine the shame of that. My nightmare is not being in any magazine this week. Issue. Enough of us magazine this week. Issue. Enough of us sleep amateurs. Listening to a sleep professional. It is true. Doctor michael farquhar, a co nsulta nt doctor michael farquhar, a consultant in sleep medicine at the evelyn at Childrens Hospital in london. We can see from our office. Hello. Where are you actually right now . Describe it. I meant one of the bedrooms and our children sleep centre. This is what we do organise sleep studies on children that come to the hospital to have a detailed look at their sleep. Is that where you get wired up to one of those headset things went the electrodes . Hidden away in the walls from all sorts of technical gadgetry is but we try to keep it simple as possible so the kids dont get too freaked out. A nice boring room. The intriguing thing with all of this come whenever you talk about sleep research or us come whenever you talk about sleep research or us as come whenever you talk about sleep research or us as individuals Start Talking about any sleep problems we might have, the minute you Start Talking about it, you start worrying about it more. The danger is it gets worse. Yes. You can get very trapped in that loop very quickly. Your ten minute sleep, falling asleep and you start to worry and think about the fa ct start to worry and think about the fact you have fallen asleep in the more you think about it the more difficult it is to get to sleep. And before you know in the morning. Learning how to break that loop was a really good skill to learn if youre trying to incorporate sleep. Did you see that survey today about 50 of people having disturbed sleep. Did you think well, that is just what happens at times like this . Pretty much, yes. We been doing a bit of work at the beginning of the pandemic. Supporting our staff and the hospitals. We knew that the structure sleep will be one of the things that would come. We did a bit of work since early on trying to improve and maintain its good quality sleep as possible. But the most important thing is we are living through a completely abnormal times. And disruptive sleep is a completely normal response. |j times. And disruptive sleep is a completely normal response. I have a question. Im asking for a friend and foradam. Is question. Im asking for a friend and for adam. Is it possible to have too much sleep . It is difficult to overdo it to be on. Most people will catch up sleep if they havent been getting the right amount of sleep on a weekday night. The classic example of teenagers committed to an adult when you get x amount of sleep on a date night, and then on the weekend you sleep a little bit more. What is that it you sleep a little bit more. What is thatitis you sleep a little bit more. What is that it is about is you are catching up that it is about is you are catching up on sleep you shouldve got during the weekdays but just on the weekend. Most people will find it difficult to sleep well beyond unless they were massively sleep deprived. I can sleep forjust any time. Ican deprived. I can sleep forjust any time. I can go to sleep now. Are we boring you, adam . No, i knew you say that. Back to vicki, she told us about exactly dreams about doing the down tree press conference on Video Conferencing and donald trump was there and her boss was there. Downing street press conference. What is happening we have an anxiety dream . I think people forget how important sleep is. Going to physical and mental perspective, sleep is essential to keep you functioning at your breast. A physical point of view youre recharging and repairing. From a mental point of view, processing goes on. After breast. In terms of what your brain is doing and sleeping. All the things you did in the day, your memories and emotions are all being processed until you are all being processed until you are sleep. If you have a lot of things you havent dealt with in the daytime that tends to then have an impact on your sleep. When people are stressed they are more likely to have vivid dreams. So sometimes it is really obvious and people are honest with themselves and say i was stressed and worried and things were weird and vivid, sometimes if we are not being honest with ourselves it is very unusual dreams and sometimes a sign that things we havent dealt with in the daytime and that maybe we should have done. And another evidence that quite a lot of our listeners listen to this podcast to help them get to sleep. Is that a good thing . Laughter. Having a consistent routine for getting to sleep is really important. If you fall asleep in the same way each night by listening to music or the same podcast, that helps train your brain to going off to sleep from your point of view image or idea thing off after three but if that is 0k. Thing off after three but if that is ok. Podcast are broken. We love podcast. We dont use streams. They are not broken for sleep. As long as you are not staring at a screen, youre good. Thank you, doctor michael. Good news that we can help people gently go off to sleep. Although they wont know i have said that because they are asleep by now. Not at least until the end. Now it is time to go to sleep. Or wake up if youre listening in the morning. Very confusing for you. If you, guys and everybody was on the programme today. Always wanted to end a broadcast saying this. Dont have nightmares. Some places kissing up to an inch of rainfall over the weekend. More on that and a minute. Who are certainly heading for a contrasting weekend in comparison to the final one in may. We have blue skies and sunshine and temperatures into the mid to high 20s. This weekend it will be cloudy, windy and that when coming from the north direction will mean it will be pretty cool. Last week and it was all about High Pressure across southern scandinavia. This weekend, due to this low pressure keeping a close eye on events. It means to friday we will start off cloudy with a few scattered showers darted around. More significant rain arrives in the northeast later on. But the shell of the charlotte across england and wales could be still very hit or miss. Some places will escapes dry and the winds will pick up in the afternoon. A similar story through Northern England and Northern Ireland. On them, the child will gradually be replaced by this more heavy persistent rain into the northeast and gust of winds in excess. the northeast and gust of winds in excess. The cold will gradually be replaced. That will make you feel quite cold in the north come into 13 degrees and highest values down 16 or 17. That low pressure is going to slip its way south through the north sea. The wind is always a future around to the south in the west of that low. We could see the ones topping out potentially as 16 miles an hour across the northern half of the uk. Injune, that is pretty unusual. So, saturday sees that area of low pressure and the rain circulating around that low. It will bring some significant rainfall totals to some across the far north and east, scotland, escaping by a brighter afternoons and maybe across southern england barely any rainfall. We also do a little bit with a light rain through saturday night into sunday. Sunday will be a quieter day. Isobars opening up in the winds will be lighter still. That means we could just have some nuisance rain clinging onto north sea coast pushing down into east anglia by the middle of the afternoon behind the cloudy skies and temperatures recovering in touch with those lighter winds and heights of 18 degrees. But the rain accumulation through the weekend of darker blue show that some areas could see as much is ten to 20 mm. Maybe an inch of rain. Very little rainfall where we really needed. As we move into the new working week. Monday looks likely a ridge of High Pressure will build from the west. That will quiet things down for a time. We need to keep a close eye on that low pressure going to move in later in the week. It means monday and tuesday will be dried with lighter winds and a little bit of sunshine, but certainly better than it has been, however it we need to the gesturing for further ahead. The jet stream that is been driving these areas to low pressure across these areas to low pressure across the uk will the significant dip as we go through the lighted stage of the week will potentially force it low pressure the week will potentially force it low pressure up into the northwest on across england well. A lot of uncertainty in the detail once we get further ahead. But it does look like it will be a drive but relatively cool start with wind and rain in the northwest later on, mauled or hopefully as we headed towards the following weekend. Take care. Tonight at ten an emotional Memorial Service in minneapolis for george floyd, the black man killed at the hands of four white Police Officers. One speaker said his death was the result of a pandemic of racism and discrimination. George was somebody who was always welcoming and always made people feel like they were special. Everybody wants justice, we want justice for george. He is going to get it. Applause. Thousands also gathered in new york, to remember a man, whose death has shone a light on american policing. Three of the ex Police Officers accused of aiding and abetting murder, have appeared in court for the first time
