In moscow, theres no coronavirus pandemic lockdown, not yet, but the streets have definitely got quieter. And even though the schools have all been shut, lots of playgrounds and exercise yards are pretty much deserted. Closing its borders isjust one of the measures russia has taken to protect itself in this pandemic, but for Central AsianMigrant Workers, thats created a crisis. Hundreds of thousands of people come from central asia to russia for work, but the Border Closure hitjust as the end of the winter season came in, and peoples work permits were running out. With flights suddenly cancelled, many people got stuck at the airport bad at any time, but thats even worse, of course, in a pandemic. Risky Health Conditions really because of the virus. There are a huge number of Migrant Workers still quite across russia, and getting everyone who wants to back home is a huge task. The Uk Foreign Office has advised all british nationals travelling abroad to return to the United Kingdom while they can. But with huge numbers of flights cancelled, and many countries on lockdown, it can be difficult to get home. More than 600 uk nationals are stuck in peru, after it closed its borders and stopped all flights. The country is also under lockdown. Rachel billsberry grass is in lima in peru, and trying to get back home with her daughter. Rachel, thank you forjoining us. Rachel, thank you forjoining us. Tell us about your situation. Peru went into lockdown a week ago on monday, giving just over 2a hours notice of total lockdown of all airspace and roads, we rushed to the airport along with many other people and desperately tried to get a flight home. We did have a flight home booked for two days later. That was cancelled. We didnt manage to get a flight and since then we have been urging the Foreign Office to try to help us get home. Luckily, for some of us here, there is one flight tomorrow which is taking, i think, about 200 people back. U nfortu nately we a re think, about 200 people back. Unfortunately we are not on that, they are prioritising older and more Vulnerable People understandably, but what we havent done is had any information about other flights other than to hear that the Foreign Office is working on it, but we dont know when that might be, so there is a lot of anxiety here. I can imagine, hundreds of british nationals are stuck in peru right now. Those who are not in lima, how easyis those who are not in lima, how easy is it for them to get to lima to get home . That is a real challenge and there are quite a few Vulnerable People still outside of lima and we have collected together data, we all met each other online, collected data and is people all over peru and the roads are blocked so there is no freedom of movement at all. Lots of people are in costco which is a 12 hour drive away. There are quite a few people who are vulnerable, and spoke to someone vulnerable, and spoke to someone yesterday who has ms and is running out of meds so he has had symptoms come through and hasnt managed to get the same meds in the pharmacy local to where he is, so pharmacy local to where he is, so there is some really crucial worrying things happening to people here. Rachel, where you and your daughter on a holiday . My and your daughter on a holiday . My daughter had been out here since january working for a charity and i head come out here to walk in the inca trail with her, so a arrived a few days before the lockdown, so we didnt manage to do the inca trail, ive pretty much arrived and we turned around again. So that was a bit of a shame. I spent most of my holiday so far in an apartment in lima because we are not allowed out other than to go to the shops, so unlike the lockdown in some countries where people are being encouraged to go and do some exercise, that is not happening here in peru. There are police and security people patrolling the streets and watching carefully to make sure that you are only going to the shop or pharmacy, and that you are going straight home again. It is good to talk to you, rachel, and to keep in touch with us and good luck on your quest to try to get home, we hope that you return soon. Thank you, so do i the kenyan flower market is grinding to a halt as most markets in europe shut down because of the covid i9 pandemic. The head of the Kenya Flower Council says the sales are down 90 percent and that he fears it could fall further as countries take unprecedented measures to stop infection. Anne soy has the report. These roses really get to full bloom in the greenhouse. Normally, partially open buds are cut and quickly sent across the world. But not this time. Everything has ground to a halt. But the cutting of stems has to go on here so that the pla nts has to go on here so that the plants can keep producing more blossoms in future. Although, no one knows when that will happen. Flowerfarm no one knows when that will happen. Flower farm managers have been receiving cancellation after cancellation of orders. Demand has fallen to 10 and they think it is only a matter of time before the market completely shut down. Someone, somewhere could really do with flowers in bloom right now, but there isjust do with flowers in bloom right now, but there is just no way to get them to the market. On a day like today, this place would have been abuzz with activity, employees cutting stems and placing them on the conveyor belt. But they have all had to go home on annual leave, and in another two weeks, there wont be any more money to pay them. Only a few remain on duty to keep the farms running, with the hope they can bounce back later. But they can bounce back later. But the fair is it is becoming more and more difficult to keep them here working. Seasonal workers have already lost theirjobs, but even staff may not be safe for much longer. It would be another catastrophe where we would be dealing with poverty and hunger and people not being able to meet their daily needs. You will see a lot of that, because we employ over 150,000 people directly in the farms, and by extension those who provide auxiliary services and goods, up to half a million. By and large, we support over 4 million livelihoods. In the netherlands, one of the key markets, this is the reality. The flowers arent getting to the intended customers. They end up dumped. To cut losses, not much is exported anymore from kenya. The stems that workers must cut are not taken farfrom workers must cut are not taken far from the greenhouse. They end up here, and heats like this one a growing in all flower farms. One of kenyas most Rewarding Industries is wilting away. Anne soy, bbc news. It is important to mention that we have just heard that us senators and the white house have finally reached an agreement on a huge economic stimulus bill to alleviate the Economic Impact of covid 19. This would be an unprecedented stimulus package in terms of size, 2 trillion worth of measures aimed to help rescue companies that have been devastated by the impact of coronavirus and the necessary means to close down restau ra nts, means to close down restaurants, bars, businesses, et cetera. It is looking to help workers, businesses, also families and households. We dont know the details yet on who is getting what in terms of the stimulus money but we will have more in our programming ahead for you. See you soon. Hello. Tuesday brought us the warmest day of the year so far. The warmest place was rhyl in north wales, where the temperature nudged just a shade above 19 degrees celsius. I think well see quite a bit of warm weather across particularly the southern half of the uk again today. High pressure is to thank, and its feeding air into the uk all the way from the core of europe. Towards the north west, though, we do have a weather front in play thats bringing more cloud. Therell ne further outbreaks of rain today as well for Northern Ireland and scotland, but with shelter from the mountains and hills, to the south east of Northern Ireland, across eastern scotland, hopefully we will see a little sunshine as the day wears on. Whereas the cloud could drift a bit further south, turning the sunshine a little hazy in Northern England and western wales, with the odd spot of drizzle. Where we have the best of the sunshine will have the highest temperatures, so across a central slice of uk, highs of 15 or 16 degrees. Through wednesday evening and overnight into thursday, it almost looks like its not moving, doesnt it, this weather front, but its slowly sliding south. By the end of the night, i think clearer skies for the north west of scotland, so the risk of a patchy frost here. To the south of the front, though, with clear skies and light winds to take us into thursday morning, i think were going to see a frost across mainly parts of southern england, particularly towards the south east and other parts of wales too. Heres thursday, and theres our front still sitting in place straddling, scotland and Northern Ireland. Perhaps a little less in the way of rain on the length of that front. Its looking much brighter by this stage in northern scotland, with the cloud trickling down into Northern England. Starting to become just a shade cooler on thursday. Our top temperatures 13 or 1a degrees. By friday, its a bit of a case of spot the difference. Theres less rain in association with our front, but again its barely moved, so for northern scotland, more sunshine, and to the south of the uk, looking pretty bright as well. But notice again the temperatures starting to slide somewhat. What we have is a play off between two areas of High Pressure the continental one thats brought the milder air, and one coming in off the atlantic that will start to win out over the weekend, and as it does so, it starts to introduce a northerly or north easterly air flow. So, we will still have a lot of settled weather, a lot of fine weather, but come the weekend, it is going to feel considerably colder, and there is some sign that on sunday, there could quite a few wintry showers feeding into easterly extremes of the uk. Heres your five day outlook a lot of fair weather to come, but you can see that drop in temperatures. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Our headlines today stepping up the fight against coronavirus. A huge makeshift hospital is to be opened in london but theres a stark warning from these a e doctors. We are seeing patients in their 20s, patients in their 30s. We dont know what the outcome for those patients will be, they go to intensive care and have been there for some weeks and have been there for some weeks and some of them will die. And its com pletely and some of them will die. And its completely heartbreaking. Thousands of retired nhs staff agree to come back as the government
