Raheem sterling plays fat man city, not man united. From manchester city. Time for a look at the weather. Heres darren bett. In some areas, there has been over 200 millimetres of rain, eight inches, injust 24 hours 200 millimetres of rain, eight inches, in just 24 hours to 10am today. The wettest june inches, in just 24 hours to 10am today. The wettestjune day inches, in just 24 hours to 10am today. The wettest june day on record, quite likely. The reason for the wet and windy weather in the past few days has been this area of low pressure running towards scandinavia, taking a lot of that rain with it, so it becomes drier in most areas overnight. We have more rain returning to northern ireland, then by the end of the night into then by the end of the night into the south west of england. By that point, temperatures of typically 12 or 13 celsius. Tomorrow continues the unsettled theme. There will be rain around, but the winds wont be as strong as they have been. A different look to the weather across southern parts of england and wales low cloud and outbreaks of rain pushing east. Further rain through much of the day for northern ireland, brighter further east across england, and sunshine in scotland, but again, some heavy and potentially thundery showers breaking out. Temperatures like today, peaking at 19 or 20 celsius for eastern parts of england. On wednesday, more rain around. Heavy rain from overnight to clear the south east of england. The sun comes out, gives someone, triggers showers, heavy rain developing through wales and west in england through wales and west in england through the day, as it turns drier from the north and scotland, due to a northerly wind, so temperatures below par for the time of year. Thursday is dry up with a few showers across southern areas, but we have a temporary ridge of high pressure, then low pressure comes in towards the end of the week. The weather fronts will strengthen the wind and blow rain down from the north west. A reminder of our top story the city of leicester looks like being the first of low doubling of the local lockdown is after a spike in cases. Restrictions may remain in force there temporarily. Thats all from the bbc news at six so its goodbye from me and on bbc one we nowjoin the bbcs news teams where you are. Hello and welcome to sportsday im chetan pathak. Coming up on the programme, increasing the number of black, asian and minority ethnic coaches football launches its plan for change for the first time, ben stokes is set to captain england sojoe root can be at the birth of his child. Ifiam in if i am in charge, but is not going to change the way that i go about things in terms of how i want to influence the game, which is to try and makea influence the game, which is to try and make a positive effect with the ball and bat in my hand. On the day wimbledon should have begun, concerns about players heading to the us open in august. And russia is announced as host of the next winter Special Olympics despite the countrys sporting ban. Hello and welcome to sportsday. Welcome to the programme, thanks forjoining us. How do we get more black, asian and minority ethnic coaches into professional football . Its a conversation weve had before, but today the premier league, the efl and professional Footballers Association have alljoined forces to launch a scheme they hope will finally help to increase numbers. Currently only 6 of the 91 premier league and efl managers and coaches are from those under represented communities. But from next season pfa members can apply for whatll be close to a two year placement with clubs in the efl. Six coaches per season will be recruited with the aim for them to eventually move into full time coaching roles in the professional game. Earlier, i spoke to the former huddersfield, swindon and gillingham forward iffy onuora, whos now the equalities coach for the professional Footballers Association which is behind this scheme you know that there are not enough bame coaches in the system at this moment. Starting from 2016 now well be said that all the senior positions, coaching positions that is at football clubs, only three to 496 is at football clubs, only three to 4 represented by bame coaches are candidates. We know that there were not enough and even though that percentage has shifted upwards it is still a stark contrast to obviously the number of black and bame players playing so hopefully this scheme will increase that pipeline, get coaches hands on experience within clu bs, coaches hands on experience within clubs, learning not just coaches hands on experience within clubs, learning notjust coaching in the clubs was a little bit around sports and recruitment so they get a real feel for the clubs and the idea is that the clubs look at these candidates with a view to employing them at the end of the 23 months. you are on a practical level, how is it going to work . How many placements are there . How will people do them . Will they be paid . So there are bursaries as well in this. My selves and others have put up this. My selves and others have put up 75 at the front so the clubs after to find the other 25 over two oi after to find the other 25 over two or three months. They will be there full time, initially there will be six coaches and six clubs as a pilot scheme with a view hopefully that we can roll it out further. What you think has been the reason for that blockage, we know these conversations have been happening for nearly 20 years and in the early 2000 there was already a sense that it is only a matter of time until they will be lots of black coaches. Why do you think that didnt happen . From personal experience is obviously i was playing in 2004 and there were people sat on the table League Managers association and fa we re League Managers association and fa were the same is there now and the badger was illjust were the same is there now and the badger was ill just happen were the same is there now and the badger was illjust happen over the next few years as more players finish their careers and we know that there is a blockage there and you can come up with a million reasons but i think the less they have got the me people in parts of the Decision Making process than the stakeholders of the football associations or at board level, then we know that there is a kind of unconscious bias towards recruitment and people tend to recruit in their own image, and that is not being overly critical, the stats will tell you that, and, you know, in england teams and Age Group Teams you look at they are very highly populated with bame players and its perhaps not reflected in whether or not the f1 not reflected in whether or not the f are doing that as well. Not reflected in whether or not the f1 are doing that as well. Whizzing a push for diversity and inclusion at the moment in a way we perhaps havent seen across sport. That ta kes havent seen across sport. That takes us to for example what has been happening across formula 1 where iffy was telling me theres an Energy Around pushing for diversity and inclusion at the moment in a way we perhaps havent seen across sport. And that takes us to whats happening in formula one, where the six time champion Lewis Hamilton and his mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas will race in black overalls and in black cars when the formula one season resumes at the weekend. Its a change from their silver arrows in what mercedes says is a statement against racism and discrimination. Hamilton who attended a black lives matter protest two weeks ago is fis only black driver, of course, and has been vocal in his support of the movemement. And he says. Next to tennis how wed loved to have been bringing you the latest on the opening day of wimbledon now but alas it wasnt to be, the tournament cancelled this year because of the pandemic. The next grand slam is the us open, which will be played without spectators from the end of august. 0ur reporterjoe lynkseys been looking at some of the challenges tennis faces ahead of that tournament. We will be back again. And it will have been worth the wait. A message from the duchess of cambridge on the day wimbledon was due to start. Instead, this year, the gates are closed, the grand is a silent, and at 1030, no one struck a ball. That unlike the grounds are silent. Wimbledon memories will be the focus of this summer. They are fresh in the mind of 16 year old coco goffin. A year the mind of 16 year old coco goffin. Ayearago, the mind of 16 year old coco goffin. A year ago, she played a match the maid service staff. 30,000 to 500,000 overnight which is something im still not used to but definitely was a huge event, people still recognise me just from was a huge event, people still recognise mejust from one match. Tennis now is trying to move forward. They aim to play two grand slams this year, but with these french open starting just two weeks after new york. This boat is still working out how to get play on safely, and even by september the United States may not be ready. This sport. What is happening at the moment in the us is the number of cases are covid 19 going higher and higher every day. I dont see how that can happen. From outside it looks a bit crazy to try to make it happen. In britain this weekend we saw the first careful steps back. In an empty arena dan evans won the battle of the brits and for a global tour waiting to travel, there could bea tour waiting to travel, there could be a more local focus. Tour waiting to travel, there could be a more localfocus. My tour waiting to travel, there could be a more local focus. My feeling is that it be a more local focus. My feeling is thatitis be a more local focus. My feeling is that it is an opportunity to develop tennis on a domestic level with smaller events and wait until it is safe for everyone. The worlds best players currently in quarantine. Novak djokovic courts covid at the exhibition he organised. Alex zverev is also meant to be isolating but an unverified video showed him partying in monte palo. His rival made this the spot once. How selfish can you be . Herself for skin you all get . How selfish can you get . It is a sign, perhaps, of how farthe how selfish can you get . It is a sign, perhaps, of how far the spot has to go on a day when tennis should have been in focus for all the right reasons. Onto cricket and the county game will begin in august. The england and Wales Cricket board confirmed the plans this afternoon. Theres still a lot of details to work out, but play will get under way for the mens county season on the 1st of august. First class counties will decide on mens formats to be played at a meeting in earlyjuly. And the womens domestic game is commited to play this season though the formats are yet to be agreed. Test cricket is just over a week away with the start of the series against the west indies in southampton, and it seems england have a new test captain. Ben stokes is set to step in forjoe root, whos wife is due to have a baby and stokes says he wont be altering his style of play i always try and set the example to lead in terms of attitude and commitment towards what i do as an individual, and then, you know, obviously having the added responsibility of being a captain, you know, that also comes with pressure in terms of making decisions, you know, especially through tough periods of the game which obviously test cricket can throw at you when you are putting a Big Partnership on, you are the person who makes the decision to try to break that partnership so you have got a lot to think about, but i think that even if i am in charge, thatis think that even if i am in charge, that is not going to change the way that is not going to change the way that i go about things in terms of how i want to influence the game, which is to try and make a positive effect with the ball bat in my hand, but i think no matter what i do in terms of choosing what to do in a situation, it will always be the positive route. This is going to end joe roots run of playing in englands last 77 tests. Ben stokes last captaincy was in 2008 at durhams academy. But the bbcs cricket correspondent jonathan agnews told me he doesnt think itll matter he has got a very aggressive side to him which makes him the all rounder that he is. He is a natural leader in many ways. It would be interesting to see how he gets on. He has transformed as a character in the last couple of years. He had an amazing summer last year. He has huge respect from his own players. The only thing is with burning captions, it doesnt often happen that you get a bowling captain, more recently west indies also do have a brand as well, they tend not to bowl themselves as much as if you think they shouldnt really do that because they are captain and will let someone else have a go, so i hope they somebody let someone else have a go, so i hope they somebody will ben, with the bolt to. Match winner with the bolt to. Bowl or two. Liverpool managerjurgen klopp has written to the clubs fans what sort of opening your expecting to see as players get their heads around this new environment . We did explain Something Like that when england go and play pakistan in dubai or abu dhabi and those are totally empty grounds and it is strange that sort of hollow a empty feeling and i suspect knowing cricket board himself the first time someone cricket board himself the first time someone slacks in the for his dander will be up and he will be charging in without paying if anybody is what you are not so you kind of have to get yourself going a little bit on these players are all used to playing in front of ten, 20, up to 90,000 in australia, and that is purely a motivational side of things, but, you know, just focus on what you are doing, focus on the job you have got to do, and, i say, if a batsman hit schiffer for what you dont like it very much whether there are 20,000 watching or not it will be strange, the umpire, the 12th man, it is going to be a very strange experience, i think that everybody was involved but the important thing is that cricket is being played pakistan have arrived also and if things do go well they will be three test matches played against them as well. The whole thing will do a huge amount to save a lot of money for english cricket, £380 million or so and that clay is very important as well. Jonathan agnew talking to me earlier. A quick look at some other football now. Fulhams Aleksandar Mitrovic has been suspended for three matches for elbowing leeds defender ben white on saturday. The referee missed it but tv replays showed it clearly and hes admitted the offence. The former liverpool and england striker Robbie Fowler has left Australian Club brisbane roar because of the pandemic. He was appointed coach last april and led them to fourth in the top flight before matches were suspended three months ago. Hes decided he and his family will stay in the uk. Scotland goalkeeper craig gordon has rejoined Championship Club hearts 18 years after making his debut for them. The 37 year old rejected a new contract at celtic, where he won 14 domestic trophies, and is back at tynecastle on a two year deal. Of the coronavirus pandemic. Its planning for potential financial losses of about £300 million. On the pitch there is one game at wembley tonight. The league two play off final, exeter against northampton, the winners will be promoted but no fans are allowed in whats the first competitive game behind closed doors at wembley. 0ur reporterjames burridge is there for us how bizarre is this . It is eerily quiet on wembley right now, only an hour or so until kick off, normally this would be absolutely full bursting full of colour, noise, energy, and the state of exeter and the northampton fans who have made their way to wembley for this one. Instead we have got a howling gale outside and inside and how they deal inside is going to be very interesting, already i have been sent a few videos from bbc journalist inside wembley, funny cardboard cut out which of course we have been getting used to, loads of flags, but lets be honest, while they have been playing in smaller stadiums in the play offs to get here how these players deal with the atmosphere inside well in blue will be fascinating. Nobody inside what, and 80,000 seater stadium. Does not have any effect on this game . I think both sets of players have put that right behind them, whether youre talking to exeter or northampton. Dont forget with exeter, they were in the top three for a lot of the season. Back in february they actually played northampton and northampton won convincingly and exeters form fell off at the pace and then on. They managed to get back into the play offs and they will fancy their chances and want to right the wrongs. As the northampton, their manager is looking for his first promotion in 18 seasons, and what they did against tend to them a week ago was extraordinary, 2 0 down from their own home to come back and score three goals and win convincingly really sets this up for a fascinating evening. We will look forward to that one later. Meanwhile, burnley are away to Crystal Palace in the premier league tonight. Theyre safely in mid table, but theres speculation about sean dyches future as burnley manager. Next season will be their seventh in the premier league but dyche says its all been done on a very tight budget and that now needs to change this club, as a collective, has built a really good way of working, a very Solid Foundation and a very good club so of course i wouldnt fit that up, no way, but can we stretch it . Yes, i think we can. Does it need stretching . Yes, i think it does. Covid may be made a difference but after we took that out of the market is telling you that you cannot forever just work on an expenditure of 19 million a year. It is not impossible that it
