And it shouldnt be like that, but it is, unfortunately. Imran, what did your partner say she experienced when she was rushing out . What was it like, what was the explosion like from her perspective . She just said she just heard this bang, and she just literally grabbed hold of my daughters hand and just run down the stairs. Thats it, thats all she said. She was literally feet away from me. She got to the top of the stairs, where the exit was, and the explosion happened. And we just heard one explosion. Definitely, definitely heard one explosion. And, like i say, i were from when the explosion, and when she heard it, to getting in my car, it were seconds. Because i was parked literally ten foot from the exit, from the door, on the old Bridge Street drive, right, parked across the road from the door. So there were you know, she didnt have time to react. She literally got my daughter and there was all the people screaming. And as soon as the explosion happened, on the door, she says everyone just started crying, so She Literallyjust ran down the stairs and ran away. But they knew something wasnt right. They definitely knew something wasnt right. They werent sure what it was, but they knew something wasnt right. The Prime Minister has sent her condolences to the victims and those injured in the attack, as hasjeremy corbyn, the leader of the has it in. The uk is in the middle of an Election Campaign at the moment. That has been suspended for the least investigation, while they try to work out what has happened. The all the latest, here is greg dawson. For all the latest. A pop concert filled with young people transformed into a scene of multiple deaths. The lights had just come up at the end of Ariana Grandes show when suddenly a loud bang was heard. Audio of the moment of the explosion was recorded by someone inside the arena. Police say they believe the explosion happened in the foyer of the arena and are treating it as a Terrorist Attack. Reports from two unnamed us officials suggested it was carried out by a suicide bomber. That is yet to be confirmed. I was in the box office of the foyer when it happened. I was waiting for my family to come out. I was talking to one of the girls. The door into the arena had already been opened. Because the door was open, we got blown forwards through the door towards the arena due to the explosion being behind us. Everyone around us got injured. Casualties have been taken to hospitals across the city. Medical staff say they have been treating shrapnel like injuries. The venue, which has a capacity of 18,000 people, is right in the heart of manchester. Victoria Railway Station next door has been evacuated and services suspended. Police continue to ask the public to avoid the area. Greg dawson, bbc news. Just to remind you that as we understand it, 19 people have been confirmed killed in this incident, with 59, and probably more, actually, injured, as well, and taken off to various, five hospitals, in fact, around manchester. I want to give you the tweet by Ariana Grande. She was performing, and has simply tweeted this. Eyewitnesses gave some sense as to what it was like inside. They talked about nuts and bolts strewn around the floor, the smell of explosives. One man said he was thrown several metres by the blast, and sought people sprawled on the floor when he got up. One of those eyewitnesses was gary walker. He and his wife were injured by the explosion as they walked to pick up their daughters. And that is one of the reasons that the police are treating it as a terrorist incident. Just a short while ago, our correspondent ed thomas give us the latest. We have seen ambulances leading, packed with people. These people are being spread out to hospitals across Greater Manchester. I will just being spread out to hospitals across Greater Manchester. I willjust give you a sense of where i am. We have moved to the north of the city. This whole area is cordoned off now. You can see a chord on down there. There is no getting in or out of area. This is as close as we can get to the arena. You might see the car park there, around there, at the back of that, that is where the arena is. Most of the people at this concert made their way out. But we are seeing people just wanting to get out of the city, now, just to leave and you get home, to loved ones. Right now, were told that 59 people have been injured, 19 killed. Obviously a huge shop for the city, ed. Focusing on young people going to the concert. Shock. The target could hardly be softer, i would say. Yes. This place is full of teenagers. Mainly young girls. Children, whojust teenagers. Mainly young girls. Children, who just wanted to see their favourite pop singer. And it would have been those thousands of children making their way out of the foyer when this blast happened. Police have confirmed that it happened in the foyer. That is a place where people go out to buy their posters, to buy their shirts, their posters, to buy their shirts, their t shirts. Their scarves, after a concert. This is where Hundreds Weight and stay before making their way home. And that is where this blast was centred. A quick word on security. We know that when people are going into the arena, their backs are jacked. Some people are told to empty their pockets. Checked. Security want to know who is coming in what they have on them. One thing that is not clear is that when the doors open after concerts, people flood out. I have been there in venues waiting for my children to come out. In the venue. It would be impossible to walk straight through it would be possible to walk straight through to meet people on the other side when the doors open. The police are urging for people to speak to them, and to ring the National Terrorist hotline, if they have any information that can help ease together what happened here. Ed thomas, as we wait for more details to emerge, a positive distraction is the Community Spirit on display there in manchester. Where Hearing Stories of cab drivers turning their meters off, hotels taking children why they went to be reunited with their parents. While they wait. Yes, we have seen a taxi driver from while they wait. Yes, we have seen a taxi driverfrom liverpool. He and his colleagues have come down here to pick up people from liverpool and taken home. There was a story about a gentleman who approached another with two children, ten and 12, and he said that he was not looking for money, but would take them home. Weve seen other people handing out bottles to people walking around. Another hotel to my right, they were handing out cups of tea to police officers, to the media who is here, so officers, to the media who is here, so there is a sense of people coming together, just try to help people who have witnessed such terror. And thatis who have witnessed such terror. And that is what police are calling us. They are saying this is a suspected Terrorist Attack that has killed 19 people and let 59 injured. Are they able to start to piece together the sequence able to start to piece together the sequence of events leading up to this . I know it is early on, but the suggestion seems to be that it was one individual. Is there much that they can actually say at this stage . What we know now, what we know, it thatis what we know now, what we know, it that is fact, is that there was an explosion. This blast came at around 10 55pm. People were making their way out and they said they saw a red fire, feeling heat, and then saw smoke. One man said he felt the blast cut over his leg, and as he was cradling his injured wife, he noticed nuts and bolts around the floor. We still dont know what the source of the blast was, but we have one source in the united states, an intelligence source, that has told the bbc that this is a suspected suicide bomber. We also know that in some suicide attacks, bombers pack their bonds with nuts, with bolts, with nails, so they can have the maximum impact, and cause the maximum impact, and cause the maximum number of casualties. There isa maximum number of casualties. There is a lot we dont know. Bombers. And that is why it the chief of police here are built of people to give him information. They will be checking their cctv cameras across manchester. There are hundreds in manchester. There are hundreds in manchester. It is one of the most closely watched cities in the uk. That cctv will be pored over. Police are going through social media feeds to try and look and find any clues that might help them find out what happened here. And that is ed, is there. It is getting close to 5am here in england. There is no doubt that i witnessed tacitly will be key to putting a picture together. Josh kelly it gave us this account of what happened. Josh elliot. Basically, she finished her last song, dangerous woman. We heard a big bang. People were saying there was too but we only had one. All i can remember is just everybody. It was absolutely hectic, it was unreal, like something out of a film, everybody was just charging towards the doors. I just told anybody to get down. Some of us got down onto the floor. There was a couple of people covered in blood. There was somebody having a fight. I think the reason why of people are panicking is that everybody ran out so fast. People were getting hit into walls and stuff like that. Yeah, it was quite scary. I know a lot of people say it must have been like this or that. It must be the most horrific and terrifying thing that can ever happen to a person. I will never forget it. Greater Manchester Police had this statement. I can confirm the details of last nights incident as we know them. At around 10 33pm, we received reports of an explosion at Manchester Arena, in the city centre. This was at the conclusion of the Ariana Grande concert. Currently, we have 19 people confirmed to have lost their lives in the explosion, and around 50 casualties that are being treated at six hospitals across Greater Manchester. My thoughts are very much with those that have been injured and lost their lives, and their loved ones, at this terrible time. We are doing all that we can to support them. Officers from greater Manchester Police and Emergency Services are working at the scene, and are supporting those affected. We are automating the operation here at greater Manchester Police headquarters. An Emergency Number is available for all those concerned about their loved ones, or anyone who may have been in the area. The number is 0161856 9a00. We are currently treating this as a terrorist incident, until we have further information. We are working closely with National Counterterrorism policing network and uk intelligence partners. This is clearly a very concerning time for everyone. We are doing all that we can, working with local and national agencies, to support those affected, as we gather information about what happened last night. As you will understand, we are still receiving information and updates, so we will provide further detail when we have a clearer picture. I want to thank people for their support, and ask them to remain vigilant, and if they have any concerns at all, to report them to the National Anti terrorist hotline. The number is 0800 789 321. It is important also that people here in manchester avoid the area around Manchester Arena, so that Emergency Services can continue to effectively deal with the incident at that location. Thank you very much. Continue to effectively deal with the incident at that location. Thank you very much. That was ian hopkins from the Manchester Police. The number of injured has increased. Now at least 60. Sarah, we will bring you back in to discuss. There is a Police Operation happening but people are being put in triage at the scene. There is an Emergency Services operation. A picture has emerged over the last couple of hours of the people caught up in this event and also the injuries that they are being treated for. We have heard from paramedics at the scene who say they have treated some people for shrapnel injuries. Eye witnesses have said they saw nuts and bolts on the ground of the arena which would perhaps suggest that this could be a nail bomb. That is one theory that detectives will be looking at. Others have been treated for crushing injury. People heard the explosion and tried to get out of the arena. There could have been a stampede as people tried to get to the exit. Also, images of people with cuts. One man said his wife had a Stomach Injury and broken bones. The North West Ambulance service have said they sent 60 ambulances to the scene in the aftermath of this explosion. As you say, we have had confirmed in greater Manchester Police that 19 people have died and at least 60 more are injured. It has of course been an incredibly busy night the Emergency Services. Six hospitals in the Greater Manchester area are treating those who are injured, including the walking wounded. Just on the line for us as charlotte campbell. Her daughter, olivia, was at the concert. Charlotte has not been able to make contact with her so far. We would like to help in getting the word out. I just like to help in getting the word out. Ijust wonder like to help in getting the word out. I just wonder what your arrangements were with your daughter. What you understood she would do at the end of the concert. She was going to go down into victoria station, get the tram with herfriend and victoria station, get the tram with her friend and she was going to be picked up by herfriend s parents and dropped off home. She was with a group orjust one friend . Just one brand. I presume you havent been able to speak to the friend either. Ive just found out the friend is in hospital and has been found but olivier has not. We have a picture of your daughter. I appreciate you using twitter to get the word out. Have you been able to speak to the hospitals . Presumably trying to do the same sorts of calls . hospitals . Presumably trying to do the same sorts of calls . I have phoned the hospitals and the police, she is registered as a missing person because she is not registered at the hospital yet. That leaves you ina at the hospital yet. That leaves you in a desperately uncomfortable position. The Emergency Number we have been putting out, i assume you have been putting out, i assume you have been putting out, i assume you have been in touch with them. She would have a phone, i guess you tried that. Her phone is dead, her father is looking for her, i have friends are for her, social media is such a help, there are so many people looking, people i dont even know are contacting me saying they are going out, they have got a photo and they will walk the streets for her. Just give me a sense as to, and obviously she was going out for what she would see as a great night, a great evening with a friend. Yeah, yeah. It was a birthday treat. Olivia has been poorly for a while and her father thought it would cheer her up. Just trying to work out, charlotte, your state of mind, i cant really imagine. You must be extremely anxious but you need, i suppose, to have a gameplan here as to how you tick off the various points that you might imagine she would go to or be taken to. Are people going around to the hospitals for you . Somebody has gone around the hospitals. All the Collection Points where the children have been taken. Herfather points where the children have been taken. Her father has points where the children have been taken. Herfather has been put in a pub in manchester and told to stay there to await any news. That was a good thing for you to do. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families were missing loved ones. Police are asking anyone with information to get in touch with information to get in touch with the number on the screen we have also spoken to alan andrews who was at the front of the concert and he heard an explosion. Ididnt i didnt think anything of it. I just got in the car and went home, that kind of thing. Now i have seen everything unfolding, it is very scary to think you are right near it. I normally go at that exit as well, when i go to a concert. As you say, it couldve been worse. Effectively, the way to the exit was at the back of the concert hall. M was at the back, towards the station. That was the main exit to get out. It is definitely purposely done. People were on their way out of that content that particular moment. Definitely. It would have been right at the peak time. She finished about five minutes after. People were saying there were different reasons. They werent entirely sure what the noise had come from but they were just running. I did hear one or two girls who were screaming. We saw blood. There must have seen it but other people were not too sure. They were a bitfar people were not too sure. They were a bit far away and were hopefully trying to protect the kids. There we re trying to protect the kids. There were a lot of kids. Weather lots of teenagers and Young Children with their parents . Yes. With their pa rents. Their parents . Yes. With their parents. And a lot of them were waiting outside as well. When you left, was anybody there to help people leave in an orderly fashion . The stewards were and then the police were turning up. The stewards did a good job. Some of them were following protocol, to get everybody out that way and that was it. To be there to them, they did a good job in the circumstances. As we were walking out, the alarm went off. I think they knew it was serious. Luckily i was already on the street them. Sarah, you get a sense from what alan was saying and charlotte campbell, the mother of olivia, who is still missing, the levels of anxiety that are rippling around manchester are huge. That is why this attack has shocked many people because of the nature of the audience. People living in manchester will be asking, why, who would want to target an audience, a music venue, teenagers, many of their first ever music venue, teenagers, many of theirfirst evergig, music venue, teenagers, many of their first ever gig, thinking they we re their first ever gig, thinking they were going to enjoy a night out with friends, parents taking their Young Children to see their pop star. There are still some people missing as we just heard. We have a number for police if anybody is worried about their loved ones. As we said, they are being treated at six hospitals across manchester. The other thing that has been pointed out is the timing. It wasjust other thing that has been pointed out is the timing. It was just after 10 30pm and Ariana Grande had just finished performing. People were on the way out and British Transport Police said the explosion happened in the foyer area which is where people would file out and buy merchandise. That would perhaps suggest that this was targeted to get people there are almost, which even makes more shocking. And you can help piece together exactly what happened. Eyewitness testimony. The timeline. As we understand so far, 19 people are known to have been killed in the incident at the Manchester Arena with about 60 injured. We will keep coverage here. Hello there. Last week, across the British Isles, the weather came from this area of low pressure. We change the week and the nature of the weather due to High Pressure close to us through most of the week until the bank holiday weekend. Lots of this kind of thing. Buttercups enjoying the sunshine and fairly cloudy fare here in Northern Ireland. Further north towards inverness, a lot of cloud. That Weather Feature is moving as we start tuesday towards the northern isles. A chilly start to parts of scotland. Further south, High Pressure not in place. This air comes from the atlantic and it is warm and moist and will be all over the Channel Islands and the isles of scilly, coming into the West Midlands as well. Some of it sitting very low across the moors in the south west in the Western Hills of wales. Further east, further north, dry and bright and sunny for the most part. You still have the Weather Front close to the northern isles. Cloud and the odd Shower Passing through the central belt of scotland. Not a great deal changes very rapidly through the day. It stays fairly cloudy in the southern counties of both england and wales. The cloud knowing ever eastwards. A lot of fine weather in the midlands, northern england, the central part of scotland as well. More cloud for Northern Ireland later on. Eventually, the Weather Front thickening the cloud in the west of scotland. If you are heading to chelsea and the next few days, you have certainly picked a good year, because look at this fine and settled fare all the way, thanks to the High Pressure. On wednesday it will certainly have risen up, influencing much more of the British Isles for the greater part of the day. Still not quite doing enough to keep the frontal systems away from the northern and North Western parts of scotland. Enough in the way of cloud, again, for bits and pieces of rain. Further south, variable amounts of cloud. Temperatures getting into 2a, 25. Later in the week, it will be dry. Lots of sunshine. Watch out for the strength of the sun. Uv levels will be higher. Turning very warm. Certainly towards the end of the week and the start of the weekend, we could be pushing in some spots towards 30 degrees. Hello. This is bbc news. Our Breaking News this our hour.
