Trials are to take place in the uk to see if blood plasma from covid 19 survivors can help other critically ill patients. Donors have so far given enough plasma to treat 150 people. Meanwhile an experimental drug developed to treat ebola has been authorised in the us for emergency use on severely ill coronavirus patients. A trial shows remdesivir helps shorten recovery time. And north koreas kimjong un has re appeared in public after a three week absence, which prompted rumours about his health. Hes seen smiling and smoking in state tv footage. And now on bbc news, Annita Mcveigh has more information and Health Advice on the coronavirus outbreak, in this special programme. Hello and welcome to the latest in oui hello and welcome to the latest in our special programmes on what you need to know about the coronavirus. It is estimated that nearly half of the worlds workers could lose their livelihoods because of this pandemic. That is according to the International Labour organisation who say informal workers have already been worst affected. The bbcs population reporter spoke with people in four Different Countries who used to get by on a daily wage but since lockdown are struggling just to eat. Food is not something that these people used to worry about. This pandemic does not treat eve ryo ne this pandemic does not treat everyone equally. And you are living ona everyone equally. And you are living on a daily wage, being out of work means no money for food. This is hungry people. Their world is being ripped from under them. The International Labour organisation says that 1. 6 billion people could be out of work as a result of this pandemic. That is half of the worlds workers. Rosa and her daughter were let go from theirjobs as domestic cleaners with no pay and now they rely on the food bank. Governments all over the world have plans to help people on the breadline but it is not getting to some fast enough. And there are not a lwa ys some fast enough. And there are not always food banks to fill the gap. It can be a choice between respecting the lockdown or trying to survive. We wa nted we wanted to speak again but she left the city to her parents village where at least she can grow something to eat. He can rely on friends for now but they are also on the edge. They have heard nothing from the government so far. Lockdown restrictions have cut this woman from her local market and stocking up is not an option. As lockdown is going to their second month the next problem is keeping a roof over their head. The reports of coronavirus patients dying alone without their families because of social distancing measures is tragic. But it is equally distressing for the families whose relatives may be in hospices. There are often strict limits on visitors, meaning those at the end of their lives may be dying without family around even though they are not affected by covid 19. Our special correspondent has been to a hospice in cheshire in the north of england. Every day, they are there for me. Every mealtime, they bring you beautiful food. They for me. Every mealtime, they bring you beautifulfood. They arejust for me. Every mealtime, they bring you beautiful food. They are just so kind, so consider it in every way. Dean has been in the east cheshire hospice for eight days. A much loved grandmother, mother and sister. Coronavirus Restrictions Mean her family cannot visit. These guys have replaced my family. I am very happy, very at peace. My family are a little bit devastated they cannot come. I got six brothers and sisters andi come. I got six brothers and sisters and i thought i would never see them ever again so these guys he had kept me going. She is a great, great grandmother. We we re grandmother. We were almost forced other bit of whiskey entity. At the very end of the patients life, to family members are allowed inside the hospice. So only now can chris and nigel be with their mum even though she does not have the virus. We came in last wednesday. At that point we were told that no visitors. What we have had is an opportunity to talk because my mum is now at that stage where she is not able to talk to us in that way butjust listen not able to talk to us in that way but just listen to us. It not able to talk to us in that way butjust listen to us. It is cruel in many ways. We will eventually have to say goodbye to my mum and thatis have to say goodbye to my mum and that is a different level of cruelty. I cant have a pint with my brother. I have just been saying that we are here, mum. Letting her know that we are here for her her hand, really. That is it. Coronavirus has prevented some families from reaching their loved ones. I sat with the patient a couple of weeks ago and has held his hand and said he was quite safe and that his family sent their love to images told him not to be frightened. And just held his hand and stroked his hands until he actually passed away. The hospice told us that five patients had died with suspected coronavirus symptoms. Now all medical staff wear ppe. It is completely different to what were used to doing. It is really hard. Especially in most of us are huggers, havent we . The other day a patient was upset and i could not hug her and i said, patient was upset and i could not hug herand i said, iwill patient was upset and i could not hug her and i said, iwill send patient was upset and i could not hug her and i said, i will send you a kiss. Eight Staff Members here have tested positive for coronavirus. Five more had suspected symptoms. Are you worried about coronavirus . Yes. Youve got to get on with it, really. Its what we do, we cantjust walk about. Some here think more should be done to help hospices. We were the last to get tested in the last four ppe. We are used to it in the hospice movement. We package up in the hospice movement. We package up death and we hide it in a box somewhere in a peaceful setting so we dont want to have to think about it but, you know what . Coronavirus has made us all think about it. They are angels, trust me. They are gods Guardian Angels guarding over me. I know they are doing everything they can, in their power, to make me comfortable. I am very happy. They will always be there, right to the end, i know they will. More than 20 million americans have lost theirjobs in the last few weeks because of the pandemic and for many, that also means losing Health Insurance. Half of americans rely on Health Insurance tied to their jobs, rely on Health Insurance tied to theirjobs, so how are they coping . This is susan. She is a Breast Cancer survivor and has asthma. Until recently she was a bartender at this new york city theatre but then the coronavirus arrived in the united states. Everything has changed. I lost my job, lost my Health Insurance. That is because her Health Insurance was linked to herjob. Half of the country relies on this kind of insurance that is sponsored by an employer and as us unemployment figures claim to historic highs because of the pandemic millions like susan are also losing their Health Coverage so how did we get here . A system that relies heavily on employment for access to health care. Before the 20th century much need for Health Insurance because, well, there was not much health care to buy. Health care was virtually unregulated and Health Insurance nonexistent. Physicians practised in treated patients in their homes a few hospitals that existed provided minimal therapeutic care. With millions of workers going off to fight in world war ii, the us faced a severe Labour Shortage in the 19405 a severe Labour Shortage in the 1940s so businesses wanted to raise wages to attract labour. The federal government was trying to prevent wages from inflating and growing through the roof. If you needed more workers for your factory, because of defence production, lets say, the only thing you could do was offer more benefits. You had to offer them Something LikeHealth Insurance as an extra perk. By Health Insurance as an extra perk. By1950, Health Insurance as an extra perk. By 1950, more than 70 millions americans had Health Insurance. So what other options do americans have . The so what other options do americans have . The us so what other options do americans have . The us does not have a national Health Insurance system. You have a patchwork of different Health Insurance policies and that includes foreign base. Then there are public sources of coverage which are based on eligibility. That can come in the form of children and families or medicare for people older than 65. If you dont meet these requirements and have no insurance through an employer and cannot afford your own insurance, well, you are out of luck, like susan and millions of working class families. It isa working class families. It is a scary thing because i at high risk for having a recurring case of cancer. The fact that my follow up appointments for my Cancer Treatment are now potentially gone because i dont have a job, is insane. It does not make sense. Staying in the us, over the last two weeks groups of people across the country have been protesting against restrictions in place to try to limit the spread of coronavirus. For many, it is about the economy. They say they need to get back to work. But for others it is about something at the core of the us constitution, the right to worship as they see fit. A clash between faith and coronavirus. A vocal minority of christians in the us say it is their religious freedom. Among them, a florida based pastor who says he predicted the demonstrations. Let me tell you something, if you keep Controlling Society and the church and the nations that they will come soon, they are going to stand up and say, enough of your nonsense. While many us churches are close, some are Still Holding in person services. This pastor says the virus is a spiritual attack that requires a spiritual attack that requires a spiritual answer. Coronavirus, we know it comes from the devil. There isa know it comes from the devil. There is a spiritual aspect behind this. Several states like florida have declared churches and essential business which means they are allowed to be open. While this pastor does observe some social distancing his sometimes, touching people as necessary. A lot of people find it difficult to understand you are still doing things like laying hands on people. My things like laying hands on people. My place to preach the gospel, to lay hands on the sick so that he can heal them. That is my calling. We keep our distance, we wash our hands. For the sake of those that are fearful. The bible say she will lay hands on the sick and the sick will recover. Us medical advice recommends cancelling gatherings of more than ten people. Stay at home if possible. Dont go out on any unnecessary travel or trips and to make sure you are staying away from crowded places like movie theatres. But this pastor says it is for people to be able to worship in large groups. They suggested, not on order, suggested not to gather ten people or more. We appreciate the suggestion but ministries such as mine, we cannot limited to ten because the bible says, if one of theml because the bible says, if one of them i turn away, and they die in them i turn away, and they die in the bible says, there life will be on my hands. Iam on my hands. I am responsible before god. Top Us Health Officials and the cdc director has warned of a possible second wave of coronavirus in the country. So with this pastor closes church if he was asked to in the future . If there is something valid, you know. I will discuss it. But politicians and governments cannot stop us from exercising our constitutional right, divide that god has given us. We are essential in the world and we shall never be shuts down. Of course, not all us christians will share his views. Many churches, Like Washington national cathedral, have Services Without a congregation present. But for the minority who do agree with him, the age old conflict between science and religion looks set to continue. One country that seems to have got its testing strategy right, to bring the coronavirus pandemic under control is south korea. Back in january and february, it had one of the Worlds Largest outbreaks of the virus. But it turned things around to widespread testing and contact tracing. Fewer than 250 people have died in the country has stayed out of lockdown. These are the better days. Many people across the world are being promised. It is possible here because south korea was prepared for a pandemic. And now they have not just prepared for a pandemic. And now they have notjust flattened the curve, they have crushed it. The situation looked critical in february. Medics were battling one of the worst cases in the world. Cases spiralled. But they got infection rates under control. Fewer than 250 people have died, staff even have time to give us a smile. So how was it done . Given the highly contagious nature of this virus we knew from the very early on that testing and tracking was critical. They ramped up testing within days of the first case. Anyone who thought they had the virus were swapped. They also got a bit creative and made it even safer for staff. Next, they tracked the spread of the infection. Cctv, phone and bank records pieced together the movements of carriers to find others who could have been infected. So if someone in this cabbie was confirmed with coronavirus everyone in the area would be sent a text message telling them that they were at risk and that they needed to isolate themselves and get a test. Public health was valued over privacy. Translation i think it is necessary to provide this information. I myself check in on the website to find out about new cases and where they are. Translation yes it is a violation against privacy but it is necessary. This is a globalfight. We are against privacy but it is necessary. This is a global fight. We are all in this together. Schools are still closed but some Company Entrance exams went ahead. Temperature checks are now part of daily life. And social distancing is still taken seriously. And in the search for safe spaces, young lovers rediscover the romance of the drive through in this movie theatre. Of course, there is the fear that covid 19 will return. For now, south korea offers a lesson and some hope, not just on how to handle the virus but they have shown what is possible during this pandemic. Although children make up a small percentage of those so far diagnosed and often have mild reactions to coronavirus, there are cases around the world where they had been left needing intensive care treatment. Weve been speaking to families about their experiences of coping with a child who has contracted covid 19. This is for you vote lincoln in intensive care with coronavirus. In a colorado hospital, oxygen is being pumped into his body to keep him alive. Watching is his mother anna. A doctor who specialises in neonatal care. When the doctor came in and told eyes, told me that the test was positive i just started told eyes, told me that the test was positive ijust started crying. My initial thoughts were, i dont understand. We stayed at home, we pulled him out of activities. That was immediately followed by, oh, my gosh, he has coronavirus and he continues to get worse every single hour. Where is this headed and how bad is this going to get . After three weeks in hospital, lincoln recovered. What i find most helpful to me in the hospital was just trying to stay present in the moment. And not let my mind wander too far down the what if. What if he gets worse, what if he gets sedated . I never let my self go to the what if he doesnt come home . I was not willing to go to that place and it is really ha rd willing to go to that place and it is really hard to do that as they are turning up the oxygen hour. But it did really helped me. In the uk, this five week old baby is believed to be the youngest person to have had coronavirus. Whilst hospital her mother was only allowed to see her occasionally. We wa nt we want to be able to, obviously, love her for the rest of her life she is here and werejust love her for the rest of her life she is here and were just lucky that she is here. Do you think it is going to change the way you raise her at all . I dont know if im ready to give up any more time with her. She is never getting to move out, ever. Never. Because were just at a point now where we feel as though we have missed a lot with her. She is not the only one his perspective has been changed by the virus. Across atlantic, anna has also been affected. My hope is that i dont become someone who is so overly cautious i dont allow him to live this life. This drove it home. My this life. This drove it home. My time with my kids is precious. The advice from the experts has been clear. Generally, coronavirus poses a greater risk to adults than it does to children but a recent alert wa nt does to children but a recent alert want doctors to look out for a rare but dangerous reaction in children has raised eyebrows as it was reported that it could be linked to coronavirus. Anna is encouraging people to remain cautious. I dont want any parent to be ina cautious. I dont want any parent to be in a position of, i call it, the should have, could have, would have. I wish id stayed at home, should have stayed at him. It is much easier on a parent to say, i did Everything Possible and this still happened than, oh, my gosh, we took them toa happened than, oh, my gosh, we took them to a playground did not take it seriously and my child is in hospital on a ventilator. As governments around the world warn us as governments around the world warn us not to lose patience with the lockdown they will be hoping that images like these remind us that we all have a stake in making it work. Many say doing something creative whilst being stuck at home is important. Whether to distract from news that could be upsetting but also to keep everyones mind is active and young people entertain. The bbcs arts editor spoke to the artist damien hirst why art has the power to uplift during the pandemic. There was a lot of anxiety running and people get down in a crisis and i think and people get down in a crisis and ithink art and people get down in a crisis and i think art can hopefully lift you out of that. It gives you hope after the rain, after the gloom, there is something brightened, you know, the sun comes to shines of the rainbow is a really great optimistic think that at the great optimistic think that at the great thing about art is that it is hopeful and optimistic. For me, it gives people something we cant get any other way. And i think it allows you to find something inside yourself as well which may be you dont know is there. Painting is going really well. When im painting i often have lots and lots of problems to resolve and i kind of struggle with that a lot more whereas i dont know, for some reason, i to whereas i dont know, for some reason, ito be whereas i dont know, for some reason, i to be resolving a lot whereas i dont know, for some reason, ito be resolving a lot more than i normally would. That is it for now. A reminder you can keep in touch on twitter or head to the bbc news website for latest information on the pandemic. Thank you for watching. For those lucky enough to have a garden, it can become a real sanctuary in recent weeks. Some of you have been working so hard to make them so immaculate. A lot of sunshine showing up there across sussex through the morning. There will be more around this afternoon as well. You can see the cloud trying to push towards the south west of england through the afternoon. The late sunshine here turning increasingly hazy and that cloud pushing further rain overnight, perhaps a little bit of rain for a time for devon and cornwall. Meanwhile the showers in the north east fade away. Temperatures overnight, five or 6 degrees. Typical lows. A few clearer risk spells across scotland and there may be patchy fast. Sunday morning, a quiet start. Light winds, a lot of sunshine to get the day under way. Showers quite quickly breaking out across northern reaches of scotland. The front to the south not manifesting much in the way of rain but definitely cloudy skies for england and wales to sunday morning. But the afternoon some sharper showers.
