But in grassington today, some people were taking advantage of the new guidelines, some travelling from harrogate and leeds. If you follow the guidance and you socially distance, you make sure that you are not touching anything. We have not seen anybody, really, but everyone we have seen has been friendly and kept to a safe distance. We feel fine. They reopened the car park here so visitors dont park in the centre of the village or on verges, and the idea is that that will reduce contact and possible infections between tourists and locals. Tourism is vital for this part of yorkshire, and they do want visitors back here once it is safe. One estimate is that the economy in this part of the Yorkshire Dales has taken a 30 hit because of the lockdown. And musicians have started to build their own arenas too. As a tribute to the cancelled Music Festival south by southwest, indie band courier club have launched block by blockwest. If you are a small artist in a small musical niche, its going to be really hard for you to pack a club out and tour the world, or rather, even tour your nation. But if you can book a show on a virtual platform and bring everyone that is spread out in your community together, you can put on a full show, and you could monetise it and the money can go directly to the artist, rather than kind of circumventing through third parties. The idea is that it breaks down financial barriers, it breaks down geographical barriers and it kind of disrupts the whole festival circuit. And for artists like pussy riot, breaking down political barriers is just as important as breaking financial ones. To me it opens up the possibility to play for a russian audience, like i really wish i could play physically, but even when it was not coronavirus, pussy riot are still enemies of the state so sometimes when we just leave the house, cops are arresting us forjust bleep leaving the house. And her argument is even though i is not about to go bankrupt, i have a big crew of people and by bringing them together and making some money out of this we can keep things going. She has done some incredibly experimental stuff. Of course there is no substitute for a real gig but i think it is wonderful for artists to stay connected to the people who love their music. And just as physical venues split concerts fees with the artist, virtual venues are exploring the same idea. Over the course of the last few years we have seen a quadrupling in the amount of non gaming content on twitch. I do think that one of our sustainable strengths over time which ensures that musicians have a high likelihood of broadcasting on twitch after social distancing ends, is they will see this is an entirely new revenue stream. One final quality tip to get you going set your camera at eye level and make sure the strongest light source is in front of and not behind you. The accuracy of our own captions has steadily increased, very quickly as a result of artificial intelligence. They are now really, in most scenarios, a superb illustration of what is being said. Are they perfect . No. And i think captioning was something where there was a lot of nerves, in some ways a lot of empowerment that came from it, but also some nerves. That is changing. But live caption are only one solution and they are not suitable for everyone. The Disability Charity scope have put together a comprehensive breakdown of the accessibility features of all the major video calling platforms and they have concerns about the range of access across different programmes. Inaccessible video calls software, it was already an issue for disabled people. This technology was available before covid 19 and automated captions have been around for a really long time. The fact that there isnt consistent accessibility features, quality, availability across the different platforms really demonstrates how low on the priority list accessibility has been. What i will say about disabled people is that they are the original life hackers. When you talk to disabled people, that is not ideal, what they really deserve is equality of access to put up some services for any business. Products and services. Really, our key message to individual developers and organisations who develop those apps is to ensure that the needs of blind and partially sighted people are taken on board when youre designing and developing apps and updates to those apps. Developers have to continue to test. Youve got to test, test, test. Theirapp, their updates, new versions of those apps as they come through a development phase. They need to be tested with real users. If there is one thing that we as a community are is born problem solvers and this one is a little bigger than the normal sized problem that we have to deal with. Every aspect of the disability is having its own learning curve and i think in years to come, we will write down these learnings for future generations. But even with new solutions, comes new problems. Could one of the tiny glimmers of light from this pandemic be that it kicks starts even accessibility development. When you put technology and when you put use through a completely new set of scenarios, which is what were doing right now, youre going to get an enormous amount of learning and youre also going to generate a huge amount of innovation on the back of it. One, i would say there is an enormous amount of stuff out there to help employers, help employees work in the remote world. We are doing it and there are moments and days where it is not easy but i would say it is a lot easier than we thought it was going to be and so really, really, i just know that it is entirely possible. What is your take on how the video Game Industry has or has not been effected here . Videogames, rather than having to film everything, every bit of a video game is generated on software and on hardware so the videogames industry is in a unique position. Instead of working together in an office or studio, they have packed up their kit and are continuing to work at home. It is quite incredible, really. I have spoken to a lot of Game Developers over the past couple of weeks they are actually happy working from home. They feel more productive, they do not have no distractions. So actually, really, unlike other creative industries, they do not need to be in the offices, they are just connected and they can work wherever they are. Temperatures are set to climb over the next few days, peaking around the middle of the week with highs of 26 or 27 degrees in the south. A lot of dry weather as well, but the further north and west you are across the uk, the greater the chance of seeing some outbreaks of rain. Thats certainly the case on sunday this frontal system passing across the northern half of the country, but that front running up against this area of High Pressure, which will be keeping things dry down to the south, and the squeeze between that High Pressure area and the frontal systems pushing in from the west will drive the air up from the south an increasingly warm feel over the coming days. So, for sunday, we see some rain across the northern half of the uk. Parts of north wales, Northern England, just the odd spot of drizzle, which should tend to peter out during the day, and the rain across Northern Ireland and northern scotland will tend to fizzle around lunchtime but we expect more wet weather from the west into the late afternoon. Further south, well see some spells of hazy sunshine, light winds here, more of a breeze further north you are and those temperatures, well, 17 degrees in aberdeen, 20, maybe 21 towards the south east of england. Just nine degrees there in lerwick, but shetland will spend much of the day under sunny skies. Now, as we head through sunday night, well see these outbreaks of rain once again pushing across northern areas. Further south, it stays predominantly dry with some clear spells, and certainly not a cold night actually quite a mild one, nine to 11 degrees as we begin monday morning. And mondays weather setup is a similar one. High pressure to the south, frontal systems to the north. Notice, though, there is a bit of a gap between these two frontal systems, so even across northern areas, there will be a fair amount of dry weather. We see these outbreaks of rain drifting away from mainland scotland and up across the northern isles, then something a little bit drier, still with a fair amount of cloud.
