The president did speak, but still couldnt help repeating his claims of vote rigging. This is a fraudulent election but we cant play into the hands of these people. We have to have peace. So go home, we love you, youre very special. Some of those special to the president are now being arrested for violent entry, remaining in restricted areas and theft of public property. And these infamous images will live long in the memory. The Capitol Building was eventually secured and only in the evening, the area around it was too. Well, after hours of allowing protesters to remain on capitol grounds, with a curfew now in place, riot police are now finally pushing people off the grounds and away from the Capitol Building. While there were some scuffles, many point to the relative restraint shown by Security Forces as compared to some of the scenes we saw at black lives matter protests last summer. We will be back when theyre hanging them from the gallows up there. The demonstrators here felt their actions had somehow been heroic. All over the world is looking at washington now, they saw people storming the capitol. I hope they keep watching it. We are the last hope for the world. At least in my mind, and everything ive seen, we are free. But what was it all for . Because into the night, with parts of the capitol still laying in disarray, the session to confirm the Election Results defiantly resumed, with strong words from all sides. To those who wreaked havoc in our capitol today, you did not win. Violence never wins. This president bears a great deal of the blame. This mob was, in good part, President Trumps doing. She then meets a more complexed foe in would be oil baron max lord, whos played by the mandalorians pedro pascal. I take what i want in return. In terms of tone, this feels deliciously 1980s. He was always able to power through it. And hed become this guy that you knew, remembered and loved. The way that he was able to battle the inner turmoils, he was a freaking warrior. It no longer feels loyal to be silent about it but maybe more loyal to share. When williams took his own life in 2014, the media speculated about the reasons. An autopsy laterfound he had previously undiagnosed lewy body dementia. Nearly every region of his brain was under attack. He experienced himself disintegrating. Robins wish probes into his final months and suggests that the neurodegenerative disorder was behind his suicide. These lewy bodies that were in nearly every region of his brain. The actors widow gives a detailed testimony and an interview with sean levy, director of night at the museum 3, is equally poignant. I remember him saying to me, i dont know what is going on, im not me anymore. Not all the interviews in the film work so well. Chats with neighbours feel a bit like filler and lectures from medical experts have a defensive tone as if straining to set the record straight. It does at least succeed in doing that, and in raising awareness about a debilitating disease. But its focus remains unclear. This is neither a scientific documentary nor a satisfying biography. It only covers part of williamss career and private life. But theres enough archived footage and heartfelt tribute in robins wish to remind you of a funny, kind and fiercely intelligent man. But bloody nose, empty pockets is actually filmed in new orleans, with a hired cast playing versions of themselves or whatever they feel like doing as the booze flows. What kind of a party if it is an australian guy doesnt take his pants off . Ive been saying that for years. In a casting process that sounds a lot of fun, film maker brothers bill and turner ross scoured late night dives to find drinkers with stories to tell and got them used to having cameras around. The result is a staged but evocative evening with effecting moments of truth. Many punters talk about what led them to the bar scene. Pam says that her childhood ambition was to be immature and she loves that it is thanksgiving every day. The mood can be grim but it is more bittersweet than depression as these folks find community with virtual strangers. The actors seventh collaboration with director stanley tong casts him as tang, the boss of an International Security firm called vanguard. After a face off in londons chinatown, tang and his team of attractive, quick thinking operatives head to africa to protect this innocent influencer and they find her frolicking with Computer Generated lions, unaware that a team of surly thugs are out to kidnap her. Much like the plot, the action scenes are completely over the top. At one point, a truck made out of gold smashes into a Shopping Mall in dubai. The dialogue is a mixture of mandarin, english and arabic, but either way, the script feels like a combination of bad b movies and scooby doo cartoons. Gurning baddies referred to meddling brats and ticking bombs. Vanguard is so absurd its occasionally entertaining. But whether it is worth your hard earned cash is another matter. Good morning. Its sunday, the 10th of january. Our top story. Hundreds of thousands of people aged 80 and over are being invited to book their slot at one of englands mass vaccination centres. Letters have been sent to those who live within 45 minutes drive of one of the seven sites, which are due to open this week, as our health correspondent, Anna Collinson reports. There are already more than 1,000 vaccination sites across england, but the rollout is expanding further, with some of the most vulnerable now invited to receive theirjab at a mass vaccination centre. More than 130,000 letters have been sent to elderly patients who live near one of the seven sites, which are due to open this week. Around 1. 5 Million People in the uk have had at least one dose of a covid vaccine, including the queen and Prince Philip. Both in their 90s, the royal couple are in in the main Priority Group, which consists of around 15 Million People. But the nhs faces a huge logistical challenge trying to vaccinate them all by mid february. Ok, here we are. 0k, go. From tomorrow, the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine will become more widely available in scotland with its delivery due to be expanded to gp practices and centres across the country. So far, more than 70,000 vaccinations have taken place both in wales and Northern Ireland. Good . Great. But with fears the current wave threatens to overwhelm many hospitals, the race is on. The uk is nowjust one of five countries in the world to record more than 80,000 coronavirus deaths. Its just really bad news and the thing with hospitalisations is weve seen, like, especially in london, the nhs is already overwhelmed. And the people here who are going to need hospital over the next 10 days already have covid, so we know just because case numbers have been going up that that numbers going to keep going up every day. Mass testing is one way to stop the virus spreading. In the coming days, all local authorities in england will be able to provide Rapid Community testing, including to people who have no symptoms. But many are critical about the accuracy of these tests, and scientific advisors argue only tougher lockdown measures will bring the more contagious variant under control once and for all. Anna collinson, bbc news. Well, the home secretary has defended the way police have handed out fines during lockdown, saying there is a need for strong enforcement. Priti patel said the number of cases and deaths recorded means that officers are right to stop giving repeated warnings to those who breach the rules. 0ur Political Correspondent nick eardleyjoins us now. Next, huge controversy. Yesterday, when we talked about this on the programme, we asked about whether police have been too enthusiastic about handing out fines, but they have been backed by the home secretary . We heard in annas piece there, someone talking about Even Stronger restrictions in england and potentially elsewhere in the uk as well, i think the government actually wants to focus more on making sure that everybody is following the rules that are in place at the moment. And i think were going to hear a lot more about that in the next few days and weeks. And that is what the home secretary is sort of talking about this morning, when she says there is a need for strong enforcement of the rules that are already in place. She has basically said the police need to have the powers to issue fines and potentially go further, if people wont disburse when they are told to or go home if they in a large gathering, or Something Like that disperse, ordinarily the argument you are hearing from priti patel, is that they could save lives. Its not going to mean a whole new raft of powers for the police, things are not changing significantly today in the sense that the police have been given new entry powers are anything like that two peoples homes, but i do think we will hear more from the government about making sure people are following the rules, because there is a concern right at the top of government, right in downing street, that some people are not taking this as seriously as they did backin taking this as seriously as they did back in march of last year when the first lockdown came in. We have seen those really grim numbers over the last few days. Thank you, nick. As weve been hearing this morning, the uks Vaccination Programme is rapidly accelerating with more than 500,000 people aged over 80 expected to receive the jab this week. So, when can we expect to see a return to a more normal way of life . Lets speak to Epidemiologist Dr Deepti Gurdasani from london queen mary university. Thank you very much indeed for talking to us this morning. I guess we set the question up there, really, can we even start looking that far ahead, to when we might get back to normal . I think we certainly need to look at the long term. I think its very important, a vaccine for our populations, that does reduce the severity of infection and deaths in those individuals, but the thing to remember is it does almost nothing to stem the pandemics spread, and unless we have policies in the long term, that looks to reduce transmission or spread of the pandemic, were going to be stuck in the cycle with huge, devastating impact on public health, on economy, on society, and its really worrying, this rhetoric, that vaccines are this and that will allow us to open up society when the majority of people will not be protected from infection and effects. So, for example, even if you look at the top four Priority Groups, there are many more they are many more vulnerable groups that we re many more vulnerable groups that were not yet be vaccinated. And that spread could lead to huge numbers of dap. The office of National Statistics said we had 1 million cases in england alone. Lets think about those million cases, that means approximately 10,000 deaths, it means about 35,000 in hospital, it means about 35,000 in hospital, it means about 100,000 people with long term illness, and illness we do not fully understand and we do not know what the long term impact of the illness will be on people and society. You are saying we need to be ready for many more months of restrictions because although may be although the end may be in sight, it isa although the end may be in sight, it is a long way off . Im not saying many it is a long way off . Im not saying any it is a long way off . Im not saying many many months of restrictions but we do many many months of restrictions but wedoa many many months of restrictions but we do a Long Term Plan that once restrictions are used we do not end up restrictions are used we do not end up in this situation again, needing another lockdown. We need a Long Term Plan focused on reducing transmission, which is a good find, test, trace, and isolate system. And schools are still open and many people are going to work. As well as border controls at airports. The efficacy of those measures have been discussed at great length, but is there any evidence we could deliver what you are saying we need . Certainly. So many other countries have delivered it. We have the scientific expertise, we have people in local authorities who have huge amount of experience with these things. The reason they havent been delivered is because it doesnt seem to be with the political will and people with no experience have been put in charge of making these decisions. So, it is really concerning we have no focus on the Long Term Strategy of reducing transmission, because what stops us from ending up in exactly this position after we open up in march or even in summer . And how is the new strain more easily transferred, passed on . How has that affected the way people in your line of work are thinking . That affects things hugely because we have seen even with very strict restrictions in place, i know compliance might be lower, but even with reasonable restrictions in place, we have seen the strain spreading very rapidly and cases arising. It seems the moment we start using restrictions, its likely well see a huge surge in cases, even if we can maintain the status quo, we do not know if these are sufficient enough to turn around the rise in cases we are seeing. So to be talking about opening up without any consideration of what that would mean for transmission is negligent and dangerous. The government says by acts in our vaccinating people in the Priority Group, that would stop 99 of deaths, so the vaccine is critical here, isnt it . It is critical, but even after we vaccinate the top four Priority Groups, it leaves a large number of vulnerable individuals and we will still see a large number of deaths and hospitalisations if the virus is allowed to spread, in those groups. And it will have a long term impact. Apart from that, you spoke of the mutation, we know high levels of the mutation, we know high levels of transmission favourite mutation in the virus, so we may see more mutations and strains that escape the vaccine. So the best way is to focus on reducing transmission, and elimination strategies, which is something the government has seemed to completely put to one side as not possible, despite many other countries have achieved it. They would say we are in lockdown at the moment. Deepti gurdasani, thank you very much for speaking to us this morning. The home secretary, priti patel, has said the increasing number of new covid 19 cases demonstrates the need for strong enforcement where people are clearly breaking the rules. We were talking about this yesterday regarding the case of the two women in derbyshire who were find. Police will fine people in england £200 for lockdown breaches, so how will this be enforced . John apter is chair of the Police Federation of england and wales hejoins us now. You will have heard the case of the two women in derbyshire. Do you think it was appropriate to issue a fine . I spoke to the local chair of that branch last night, and i think officers are under immense pressure to do the right thing. Lets not forget, the law is the law, but also you have the guidance, which is not legally enforceable. This is about travelling to a place to exercise copy and maybe the officers generally genuinely did what they thought was right but then Media Attention and legitimate complaints from the ladies involved means a review is necessary. With such an ever changing landscape politically and legally, there will be things that wont always go great, but it is my colleagues on the front line who are the ones in the limelight, and it feels a lonely place when you are doing the best you can to save lives and protect our nhs. But it is right we review things up to situations like this. The guidance overall needs to be absolutely crystal clear. Not only for the public but also for my colleagues. We were talking aboutjustice yesterday and the fact the bbc had approached the home office, we have approached the home office, we have approached the home office, we have approached the Cabinet Office for guidance as to exactly what local is, so please could then be clear when issuing fines, and it doesnt seem to be a definitive answer police, that means it will be up to individual Police Officers to use their common sense, use their own judgement and presumably you would say that all of your members are well equipped to do that . Absolutely. Lets put this up to contest absolutely. Lets put this up to co ntest absolutely. Lets put this up to contest put this into context. Since march, we have been in troubling times, globally. Police have been asked to do things that they would never be asked to do. Ive been a Police Officer for 28 yea rs ive been a Police Officer for 28 years and in all of my experience, i could never imagine policing in this type of environment. The laws have changed repeatedly sometimes, literally overnight. My colleagues have had tojuggle literally overnight. My colleagues have had to juggle whats right between the guidance and whats right between the law. Since march last year, weve seen an increasingly number of people who, for their own reasons, literally dont want to comply with any rules because they dont want their liberties inhibited, or they simply dont believe that this virus exists so we have to deal with that as well, and at the same time, we have to balance that relationship with the public and thats what my collea g u es the public and thats what my colleagues are fearful of, because we generally have a Good Relationship we genuinely have a Good Relationship between police and public in this country and we need to maintain that because once this crisis is over, that relation ship needs to continue relationship. All we need to do is protect as many people as we can. I know you have significant numbers of officers off sick at the moment as well which is affecting all different areas of public service, but he will say there is a growing number of people who refused to follow the rules but you also say. Who are these people and why is that and how do you deal with them . We saw in london yesterday and other places, anti vaccine protests, anti mask protests, anti lockdown protests and the right of protest is something we hold dear in this country but not when it is unlawful. But then you will get people saying that we should arrest everybody will give everybody a ticket involved in a protest. That is simply not practical. And we saw yesterday and this is not a criticism of the media, it is an observation, when we do need to make an arrest, there are more people with cameras there and there are more people with cameras there and there a re protesters more people with cameras there and there are protesters and my collea g u es there are protesters and my colleagues have to deal with that and manage that, so we have to tread that very, very fine line. I spoke with a number of officers yesterday from across england and wales and in wales where the rules are slightly different and that adds a different complexity to this, and there is a sense of being damned if we do and damned if we dont and that is not a good place to be. And in many ways, the controversy around it, the discussion around it might mean that people think twice about travelling further from the local area. Thanks so much, john. We should see seeing we should be celebrating some mild air coming in for top still cold at the moment, mind you, across some parts of the uk, but it will turn into a milder day today. More cloud coming in on a westerly breeze. But for the past week or so, it has been really cold, frosty and foggy and yesterday was no exception. Where the fog leak lingered, temperatures remained below freezing across the board, temperatures will be several degrees higher. Some fog at the moment and frost across parts of the south in ash southern england. That will tend to lift this morning, and early ask ice risk. Cloud coming in a way which might write knupp after the early fog but further north, this is where we have most of the rain and it will be turning wetter in western scotland. Temperatures will be making eight degrees. We will see snow melting and threatening flooding. Still chilly in the south east but not as cold as it was yesterday. Overnight tonight, we keep a lot of cloud and winds start and we will see more rain coming into scotland in particular, that rain turning heavier and it will be getting wetter in Northern Ireland by the end of the night. It may not be your life directly, but it will be the life of a Vulnerable Person and have a direct impact on the hospital admissions and back ca re the hospital admissions and back care and the private system. There is only so much we can cope with. We hear that, but we hear the message from the government constantly is the nhs is still open if you need it, do not delay and seek medical attention if you require it. I tell you what, ive decided to stay at home more and watch more tv. Whats your plans for the next few weeks . I think ill have a quiet start to the year and then, well, i guess we can only hope. But, in the meantime, if youre having that january wa nting to get fit feeling, then of course it is going to be a bit harder than usual this year, but you could take advantage of some of the tech platforms that did really well last year. They certainly benefited from the at home exercise boom. One of those companies is zwift, a virtual cycling platform whose subscribers are now in the millions. And this is no potle in the park, either. In app races have taken the competition to extreme levels, and Jonathan Coates threw himself into this to find out more. Cycling is a sport which has always embraced technology and now it has taken the ultimate leap into the virtual world. Zwift is an Online Platform that allows amateur and professional cyclists to train and compete against one another. Its popularity has soared during the pandemic and now it has more than 3 million subscribers. By putting a normal everyday bike on a smart trainer basically a treadmill for a bike with a bluetooth connection a riders real life physical output is converted into a moving avatar. In zwift, the resistance levels automatically change depending on gradients and conditions, and theres a whole host of other tech that can help add to the realism. The more advanced trainers simulate going over cobbles or through dirt tracks and there are even fans that can match the wind speed to how fast youre cycling. But, once youre plugged in, all you need to do is start pedalling. You canjoin a group ride, do a workout or simply cruise around some of the best routes in the world with maps, stats and data. So, to see what all the fuss was about, i thought id get stuck in. The plan, to get fit enough so that in five weeks, i could take part in a race on zwift. And, in order to do that, i recruited matt rowe, a professional cycling coach who trains people through zwift. It is the future, for sure, for training, and thats for amateur cyclists, who have four or five hours a week, right through to professional ranks. For indoor training, the benefits it brings to performance gains, speaks volumes. Now, theres one key metric that seems to be the lifeblood of zwift, and thats watts. Put it like this your tv needs about 250 watts to work, and olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins broke the hour cycling record by generating an hour average of 440 watts just with his legs. Zwift bills itself as a training platform and, unlike many sports, this set up can actually replicate many aspects of cycling with genuine road speeds and conditions, meaning that all the data you gather is comparable to what you get in real life. So matt has set me a test tonight to see how fit i am. Basically, its to see how hard i can push myself and how many watts i can generate. So ive got my screen down here where i can see the training plan. What ive got to do, what hes going to put me on. Its 45 minutes, and it looks pretty brutal. At the moment, im doing 167 watts, or thereabouts. My legs are really, really starting to hurt now. That was one of the hardest things i have done. For a long time. I mean, look at me. Its just horrendous. Certainly i had some work to do and the training carried on five days a week for five weeks. But while you can train hard and make real gains, it feels like competition is the pinnacle of zwifting. Its where zwift goes to the next level, both for the users and for the company itself. Suddenly the platform switches from being training focused to something more akin to an esports platform. You can select a race, turn up at the right time and youre suddenly on the starting line with a huge group of other riders. And, if youre good, theres serious money to be made from winning. Ive heard from several zwifters who say, i made more money on this one zwift race than i ever made in an outdoor race that ive ever done. Theres been some big cash prizes. At decembers uci cycling esports World Championships, the prize money was almost 10,000 for the winners. Incredibly, female cyclists can make more money racing from zwift than in real life. So after five weeks of training, five days a week, the time had come. It was race day. At 12 30pm, on a tuesday afternoon, the race began. And i had matt there on zoom to coach me through. Thats the most painful thing i have ever done. That was. I mean, it was genuinely really fun. There was a real kind of thrill of racing. It must be unique to zwift. If parents are worried about kids doing too much gaming at home, then get them on this, because theyll get fit, and honestly, you cant do it for more than 45 minutes or youll fall over. But it was time to hear the results. Five weeks ago, i had a functional Threshold Power of 230 watts. So had the training worked . Today you were 38 minutes, you did 288 watts. An extra 30, 30 odd watts, 34 watts, theyre saying in nearly twice the amount of time. Gosh, thats a massive increase. Thats a massive increase. Out of 32 riders, you ran 14th. Hey good result, youve got to be happy with that. Theres what we call a couple of sandbaggers is in the group. Theres two riders who were minutes ahead of third place in the cs. There were two guys in the race in my category, category c, who were considerably faster than everyone else. In fact, they came first and second with a minute between third place, and these guys who are essentially are category a riders, they re really fast, really light, really powerful, competing in lower categories. You know, i came 14th, but it sounds like i could have actually come 12th. And ifeel a little bit like, i dont know, ifeel a little bit cheated. Perhaps where theres competition, theres always going to be cheating, and professional cycling has had its fair share of scandals, and now zwift is having to deal with Digital Performance enhancement and other methods of manipulation. But as i began to find out more about cheating on zwift, one name kept coming up. I can say this guys name, cam jeffers, because he. It was all over the news anyway. I dont like to be compared to Lance Armstrong and i dont think its unfair to compare me to Lance Armstrong. In 2019, cyclist and Youtuber Cameron jeffers took part in and won the inaugural british eracing championships in london on zwift, but shortly after the race, he was given a 6 month suspension from all racing after british cycling ruled he had breached its disciplinary code during championships. I got a call one day from british cycling saying that theyve had an anonymous complaint that my bike wasnt legit. I was like, you know what . Come and check my bike if you want. I dont know what youre on about. Zwift said the charge related tojeffers using a bot to ride for him to unlock a special bike in game, thus giving him an unfair advantage over his competitors. Jeffers claims that he obtained the bike for a series of youtube videos he was making earlier in the year, rather than for the race. Qualifiers, i remember saying to a couple of people, do you not think, should i not be using a bike that ive legitimately unlocked . And they said, theres no rulebook, theres no rules been written for this event, so theres no way you can get disqualified for using a bike that you havent legitimately obtained. Butjust like in any sport, theres a battle between those regulating and those trying to gain an advantage. Cheers. Our top story. Hundreds of thousands of people aged 80 and over are being invited to book their slot at one of englands mass vaccination centres. Letters have been sent to those who live within 45 minutes drive of one of the seven sites, which are due to open this week, as our health correspondent, Anna Collinson reports. There are already more than 1000 vaccination sites across england, but the roll out is expanding further, with some of the most vulnerable now invited to receive theirjab at a mass vaccination centre. More than 130,000 letters have been sent to elderly patients who live near one of the seven sites, which are due to open this week. Around 1. 5 Million People in the uk have had at least one dose of a covid vaccine, including the queen and Prince Philip. Both in their 90s, the royal couple are in in the main Priority Group, which consists of around 15 Million People. But the nhs faces a huge logistical challenge trying to vaccinate them all by mid february. Ok, here we are. 0k, go. From tomorrow, the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine will become more widely available in scotland with its delivery due to be expanded to gp practices and centres across the country. The uk is nowjust one of five countries in the world to record more than 80,000 coronavirus deaths. Its just really bad news and the thing with hospitalisations is that weve seen, like, especially in london, the nhs is already overwhelmed. And the people here who are going to need hospital over the next ten days already have covid, so we know just because case numbers have been going up that that numbers going to keep going up every day. Mass testing is one way to stop the virus spreading. In the coming days, all local authorities in england will be able to provide Rapid Community testing, including to people who have no symptoms. But many are critical about the accuracy of these tests, and scientific advisors argue only tougher lockdown measures will bring the more contagious variant under control once and for all. Priti patel the home secretary has been saying this morning basically this morning it is important the police still have the ability to hand out fines, there are still people breaking the rules and there needs to be the ability to crack down. Again from her you are hearing the message if people do not follow the message if people do not follow the rules, if there is not a crackdown on people breaking the rules, ultimately that will cost lives as well. I do think that compliance issue is one that is really worrying people in downing street. It will be interesting to hear if ministers stop saying that, there was a real reluctance to criticise the public. It has been a ha rd year criticise the public. It was an act of sedition that was incited and encouraged by donald trump, and that is why he must be held accountable to the full extent of the law. The claim in the draft articles of impeachment is that Donald Trumps behaviour greatly endangered the security of the United States. But some republicans think the process could fuel further unrest. Do you agree and why that people are not adhering to the lockdown rules as they did back in march quite as diligently . Yes, that is true. In march nearly everybody was adhering to pretty much everything. That has dropped over the next messaging and dropped over the next messaging and dropped quite a lot over the Dominic Cummins tobacco. Since the summer it has held really steady in around 90 are pretty well adhering to everything. That has not dropped. People might be being fed up, frustrated, angry etc. Dominic cummins tobacco. The group adhering less has been younger men. Is it a question of trying to get people to adhere more to the current rules . The answer of course is yes. Also, are the rules that enough . This is where there is a big difference compared to march. This is where the focus should be. Currently, garden centres, heritage sites, grooming pa rlou rs centres, heritage sites, grooming parlours for pets are open. We have nurseries open, schools five times as full as previously, up to 50 occupancy. We have places of worship open. We have household contact in terms of cleaners, nonessential trade people. We actually should have tighter restrictions now than in march because it is called verse of the virus lives longer and people spend more time indoors, it is colder, so the virus lives longer. And we have a virus variant that is 5070 and we have a virus variant that is 50 70 more infectious and the nhs in crisis. For all those reasons, we actually should have tighter restrictions than in march, not more lax restrictions. Is the messaging a bit confusing. You mention for example grooming pa rlours bit confusing. You mention for example grooming parlours for pets. I understand lots of businesses have had a difficult time but why are they open when we are not supposed to leave the home apart from for one hour of exercise and to do our shopping and that is it, essential reasons . Going to get your pet rent is not essential, is it . One of the problems throughout has been mixed messaging. This is another example. On the one hand, we are being told behave as if you have got the virus, thatis behave as if you have got the virus, that is all very good. On the other hand, all this nonessential activity is open. That means many more people are on public transport, another mass gathering we have. Buses and tubes. What also happens is people see lots of other people out and about, so it becomes more normative, people think it is more acceptable to go out and about. We have to, if we are going to get on top of this virus and prevent tens of thousands of avoidable deaths which we are looking out over the next few weeks, we absolutely have to get right back to where we were in march. Unfortunately, which means everybody is at home and you do not have many people on the streets. But that does need to be accompanied by the government giving good Financial Support to everybody, including those people in the precariousjobs and gig economy, notjust those on salaries like last time. You sit on sage, you have said tens of thousands of avoidable deaths in the next few weeks. Are you exaggerating . We have had 80,000 over ten months, do you really believe it could be that bad . That is my personal estimate of a worst Case Scenario on the basis of what is happening in terms of the rise of transmission rates if nothing more is done. And on the basis of the stories i have been hearing from the inside of actually what is happening in hospitals, which is incredibly scary. You put all of that together, maybe it will only be thousands of avoidable deaths. One avoidable death is one too many. Absolutely. A final thought, you said we need greater restrictions. Are you talking about effectively a three week, four a week complete lockdown . effectively a three week, four a week complete lockdown . If you look at what other countries have successfully done around the world, the countries that are pretty well back to almost normal now, they locked down very hard for as long as it took. Two, three, four weeks, they locked down hard. Unless we get on top of the virus, get transmission rates right down, accompanied by a test, trace and isolate system that actually works, testing is too long, isolation is not supported, tracing is not done well because it is not based in the local communities and run by local public health. Unless we get all of that together, what will happen is we will carry on with the yo yo effect of partial lockdowns. We will carry on with the yo yo effect of partial lockdowns. Will that bring us to a conclusion quicker . We need a short, sharp shock, get the test, trait and isolate system down tojump on potential outbreaks. Then we can open the economy slowly, with control. In a word or a sentence to tee up our next interview, what about places of worship, should they now clothes . Sadly, they are Mass Gatherings where people have contact with each other should they now close . It with each other should they now close . It is with each other should they now close . I believe your own church is closed for Communal Service . As of this sunday, we are suspending communal worship. Church is open for individual prayer at the moment but have suspended communal worship. The concern is not the service itself which you have control over, but the people mingling before and after . The government is allowing us as places of worship to continue to have communal worship but are asking us to ensure we can do the safety, and one of the things we all recognise, it is very difficult for people not to want to mingle before and after services. That is our natural behaviour. In some places, this will be easier to manage than others. It depends on the layout of your church and your circumstances. For us, however, we feel the risk around mingling is one we will struggle to ensure can be done safely. Is there any need for any church to be open for Communal Service at the moment, given that it is perfectly reasonable, as susan michie said there, to do it on zoom . This is not just michie said there, to do it on zoom . This is notjust churches, all places of worship are important in peoples Spiritual Life and well being. And for people, the holy place is an extraordinary apartment, some people. We also have to remember that not everyone can access some of the digital opportunities. Having said that, we have during this pandemic learned how to offer worship in different ways. And so that those of us who are able to offer a variety of different modes of worship have been doing so, but we do need to recognise that places of worship in their own rights are extraordinarily important for some people in terms of the spiritual well being. Important for some people in terms of the spiritual wellbeing. You have been engaging online during this period . It has been an Interesting Development because doing it online, some people perhaps because of physical ill health, have not been able to join us in recent yea rs not been able to join us in recent years and are accessing again because we also offer a Telephone Service as well as zoom. And we find perhaps children are nowjoining their parents or grandparents and worshipping with them together. We have even had people zooming in from italy. I become the robot simply by putting on a vr head set. And now i can see everything the robot sees. And i can control its arms. Robotic firm cyberselves has developed a versatile more user friendly programming system, so what robots cant yet do alone can be done with the help of human controls. They hope it will revolutionise health tech. There is an increasing use of robots now in health care, but the Artificial Intelligence that powers those robots isnt up to scratch and the programming is very, very hard, it requires incredibly specialist degrees to programme robots. So what were trying to do is simultaneously make it easier to control robots and also to make up that gap for the Artificial Intelligence. So a robot moving around a hospital, say cleaning a ward, will get stuck and wont know how to do a certain task. A human being can enter into it, perform the task and the robot can then learn in the future from that as well. The same system can be used to control any number of robots to perform a whole range of different tasks, from surgery to bomb disposal, orfor example in care homes, as way of having covid safe company.
