Training dogs to carry out searches we have been in tier 2 for months and there does not seem to have is common enough, sniffing for drugs helped so maybe a Circuit Breaker or explosives. Looking for might not be a bad thing to try. People in across the uk, 16,171 new cases the outdoors presents particular challenges. Of the virus were recorded the dartmoor search and rescue team in the latest 24 hour period. Have done just that 150 new deaths were also recruiting their first search dogs for years. Registered in the same time. Weve been along to mr Prime Minister, see how they did it. Are we at a turning point . So my name is catherine davis, i am amid all the political wrangling, the Prime Ministers reluctant to order a nationwide lockdown, from the north dartmoor search and something he fears will put rescue from the north dartmoor search and rescu e tea m from the north dartmoor search and rescue team and this is trainee the brakes search dog jack. Jack had been on any rescued at the age of about eight months by the recovery. North devon animal lets talk to our Political Correspondent jonathan blake. Ambulance from a totally unsuitable home. And so i think jonathan, theres concerns over theres something quite lovely about a this news that police may rescued dog becoming a rescuer. So be able hopefully at some point next year we to access details of people who have been contacted by nhs test will be able to make that and come true. She isjust our will be able to make that come true. She is just our sweet family dog and trace . It became clear to us that she had the necessary drive and focus to that is right. To be enjoy doing it. She loves playing clear it is not with a ball and we are always out on the case that there is blanket the moors with her. So wejust access by Police Forces in the uk became something that i knew we or would want to do together. England to the details of anyone who our dogs tested positive and was asked to are not just self isolate. But it does would want to do together. Our dogs are notjust working dogs, they are our pets as well. So they live in seem to be our pets as well. So they live in our houses, they slip by the fire, the case that there is now an he likes to sleep agreement between the department of health and Police Forces that on the bed. The information may be provided bodies tend to wear green or dark on a colours, because we dont want to case by case basis, a statement by give the dogs any visual clues as to the department of health and social where we are. Sometimes we ca re says the department of health and social care says that the can be agreement ensures out here for several that information shared with appropriate safeguards and in hours, which is accordance with the law, no why i have a bag full of sandwiches, testing a flask of coffee, a book, all or health data is sorts shared in the of stuff. Process seemingly, if Police Suspect and just someone process seemingly, if Police Suspect someone has been asked to self isolate which is a legal sit down, admire requirement they may think they are not doing so the view. Their sense of smell is they may think they are not doing so they can then request details of about 40 times stronger than ours. That person. But it so it can take a is whether they have been asked to self isolate and foot team probably half an hour to search an area that not details of whether they have a dog can search in less tested positive or not and that than five minutes, because they use that sense is the key difference here, of smell rather than their eyes. Nonetheless causing concern. Many people so to give you an example of how the this scent was, you can see that weekend moving into convenient bonfire over there, if different you imagine that was a person lying levels, different tiers and restrictions but the row over injured, the wind Greater Manchester seems to rumble would be taking on. And there was a bizarre intervention last night by some skin grafts, essentially, of their conservative mps representing body and it would be drifting, not ina similar parts body and it would be drifting, not in a similar pattern to the way the of england where the prevalence of smoke is drifting that, and you can the virus is relatively low. They see how far it pushes out and how it wrote to the gets wider and wider. What we are labour leader and aiming to do is to get the labour mayor of Greater Manchester that dog into asking them to engage that sense cone. What they are doing when they are training with the government and the system of is they are lockdowns and restrictions imposed just thinking there is someone on ona lockdowns and restrictions imposed on a region by region basis. But it the hill, somebody with a toy that has not gone down wa nts to the hill, somebody with a toy that wants to play with them. Chris, well with this conservative mps in is pete, imposition. Theres a warning it charge at this stage and you can see could have a devastating impact some white lines on the chart, on the hospitality industry, with calls for more support to help struggling businesses. A few isobars squeezing together showing lets speak now to Peter Kinsella, that it will be windy. Frontal who is the co owner of restaurant lunya in liverpool, which is under systems continuing to bring the highest restrictions, outbreaks of rain across northern and peter lloyd, chef and owner ireland and scotland england and of London Restaurant sticky mango, wales for the time being a largely which has been newly placed into the second highest dry, a couple of showers and a level of windy day on tuesday, particularly through some irish seacoast but much milder measures. By this stage and temperatures good morning to you both and thank as high as 17 or you for getting up early to speak with us. Liverpool 18 degrees. Easy to see how those birds might get lost first of all in the tropical weather. And, peter, how was well be back with the headlines at 7. It for you, now its time for the story this of a group of fans who made first weekend under tier three . The it their mission to rebuild their beloved Football Club whole week has been dreadful with after it trade. Each announcement of the last two weeks has taken more and more collapsed. Trade and this week we are doing berry fc is one of the oldest clubs about 20 of what we in english normally do football. But which is totally and utterly in august unsustainable. I know we 2019 it was expelled from the spoke to you on the programme before. Football league. We are how difficult. Because liverpool has been under restrictions before heartbroken. That one group of fans decided to do and you had a business in something about it. I manchester that has been under some kind of want my restriction for months. How children to grow up with the football cloud. Close to the wire are you now . This is as each week goes by we get closer bury. With and closer but the problem is when com plete football cloud. This is bury. With complete access for 12 months we see what it takes to the restrictions feel right, we are a city with a build a football high infection rate cloud. It was a but the dream that is now Government Support measures available now for business in becoming a reality. We liverpool are either non existent or are impressed what is there is so small and with the inflexible that it does no candidates. Not prevention of us getting paid anywhere near as much as the going under. The premiership players. Everyone here job support scheme may secure jobs is doing it for while we are open but the love of it. We or anyone with else goes under those jobs are divisions in lost the fan for ever and it seems to be a base. And missing part of the strategy, to have some kind of business support in granted so we are a year where football able to reopen has faced its after restrictions, to keep on biggest crisis,. The employing people. The fight to bring government has come through with another football £30 million to liverpool now has a total back of £51 million to do you hope you may get a slice of that . We are to lucky in liverpool and the council has been proactive and bury. They have a local business support grant that lets they implemented last week. The problem is with get all of this that although the support is welcome, in 00 36 41,211 1073741526 15 53,266 the 1073741526 15 53,266 2147483051 55 05,320 worlds 2147483051 55 05,320 3221224577 34 17,375 smallest 3221224577 34 17,375 4294966103 13 29,430 car. Overall it is just not enough to secure us overall it is just not enough to secure us through what could be another two, three, four, maybe six months of severe restrictions. And the government keep talking about levels but it pales in significant significance compared to what went to saving banks and hospitality employ so many more people than banks. We need that same sort of attention that the banks received in 20,000 2008. Lets talk now to peter lloyd in london. It was your first night under tier two restrictions which are slightly less relaxed sorry, more relaxed than tier three but how bad were bookings for you this weekend . tier three but how bad were bookings for you this weekend . I dont think there is much difference between tier two and tier three when it comes to restaurant operation. Bookings last night were terrible. Friday night was the last night under the old restrictions and we had a full house. 96 covers. Last night under new restrictions we were down to 28 covers and that is not sustainable. So peter in liverpool had a restaurant in liverpool as well so he has dealt with these restrictions for quite some time. Your first restrictions for quite some time. Yourfirst night restrictions for quite some time. Your first night was effectively last night. How long can you carry on for if you remain under that kind of restriction . Well, we dont know the answer to that because right now there is a noose around our business. The government keep making decisions and it gets tighter and tighter. Until they support us the result is inevitable. They started off with saying we can open, which we did, and we had to be covid secure. Then we we re and we had to be covid secure. Then we were told you can be open but you have to have a rule of six now, only six people allowed at a table, then it was close at ten oclock, now it is people cant come from different households. Each time they make a decision we have to remodel and remarket to get customers to come in. We are getting to a point where there is nowhere else for us to move. So the government needs to be firm and decisive and make a decision and if restaurants arent safe to open and close us. The joke is, even if we go to tier three, which is supposed to be the highest measure, restaurants can still stay open if they are serving food. So it doesnt make any sense. If you went to tier three, as liverpool has, in theory there is greater support available, sadiq khan could put pressure to bear, the government might put some grants and, as it has donein might put some grants and, as it has done in liverpool. Im not for one minute suggesting london needs to go into tier three, but in some ways, you need some kind of support now, dont you . It is inevitable we will end up in tier three, think it is inevitable at some point there will be another lot down. They dont understand is back on mars, and that is what it feels like, i feel 8am at the beginning of march, the beginning of the year, where basically borisjohnson beginning of the year, where basically Boris Johnson stood up and customers dont to restaurants. He didnt tell restaurants to close. So we had no support. It was only a week later they made the decision. Were getting close to that now. The government are going to have step out. And if they are done then our businesses will fail and jobs will be gone and we not there the bounce back and it is needed. Peter, thank you very much for talking to us. Peter lloyd in london, who owns the sticky mango in waterloo and Peter Kinsella in liverpool as well, owner of lu nya. Kinsella in liverpool as well, owner of lunya. Thank you for talking to us. Lets speak now to councillor eamonn obrien, the leader of bury council in Greater Manchester, where talks are ongoing about moving into the highest level of restrictions. Thank you so much forjoining us this morning. Are these talks happening, are they not happening . We have number 10 saying they are, andy burnham said yesterday they arent. So ive not been invited to any talks, as it stands. But i think its fair to say that there is a real willingness from all of us here in Greater Manchester, the council leaders, the officers of the council, and andy burnham to keep up the dialogue around this. Something has to be decided, sooner rather than later, and so its really essential we do keep up the dialogue. Al dour has always been open throughout this process. But, as it stands, there is no meeting in my diary with any number 10 officials to actually start to progress that discussion. Do you know what local leaders actually are holding out for . What would make them put this forward . holding out for . What would make them put this forward . I think a number of things. First and foremost of which is Financial Support package for businesses and residents here who are going to be affected by whatever the restrictions are and who have already been affected, massively, by the restrictions we have had here sincejuly. Listening to your call from london. Its had an impact there, we have been dealing with much of that sincejuly without a support package in place. We need that Financial Support package, we need a more generous furlough as well for people who inevitably wont be able to work because of the restrictions. We also need more assurances that localising track and trace is going to be delivered. We know we can deliver it better. We know its an absolutely important and essential aspect of responding to covid but, again, were still waiting to hear about the funding and the powers that go alongside that to make it work stop so alongside that to make it work stop so it is about resource, powers, and it is also about what other restrictions might be necessary to protect people who are the most vulnerable in dealing with covid. We know that furlough scheme comes to an end at the end of october. You talk about businesses are struggling. Can you convey the mood . What are you hearing from businesses there . What are they saying to you . Some i have been speaking to a worried about whether they will be able to survive. Absolutely. Dont worry is very much there. Ive spoke with Business Leadership group on friday. We have a regular conversation, pretty much every week at this point, and they went through the challenges around covid and it doesnt affect every business in every way. Some businesses are actually doing better than ever. Whats really clear, i think this is the point we have been making all along, is that there are some set is, events, hospitality, culture that are really essential to our economy, that providejobs, that provide a livelihood for resident. They are in absolute freefall. And fellow coming to an end, especially for those sectors, will mean job losses. And we have already had a doubling in my borough of bury, we have had a doubling of the claimant count for unemployment benefits. Its having effect already. The worry as it will only get worse for those businesses. And for those who rely on those sectors. Eamonn obrien, thank you very much. All this business is really holding out. And lots of people in restrictions, scotland, Northern Ireland has restrictions as well. Certainly lots of people feeling the pressure. Lets catch up with the weather. Ben is with us. How is it looking . Hi there. Thank you. Its looking pretty cloudy for the most part, actually, today. Largely grey skies overhead. When we have the thickest of that cloud is the chance of a little light rain and drizzle. Not a lot of rain. This is the picture from the last few hours. Sprinkles of wet weather. There is low cloud and patches of mist and fog across parts of the midlands, wales, also misty weather across northern scotland. As we go through the day, nothing changes very quickly. We keep the large areas of cloud with spots of rain or drizzle. The best chance of brightness through Northern Ireland for a time. Northern scotland should see some brightness and some sunny spells at times across parts of wales, the midlands, in the south west of england. It will be a cool feeling day, particularly in the north. Just six degrees for lerwick, 18 aberdeen, maybe 18 for london, through this evening and overnight we keep a lot of cloud and will see outbreaks of heavy rain putting across Northern Ireland and up putting across Northern Ireland and up into buds of Western Isles of scotla nd up into buds of Western Isles of scotland as well. For england and wales some clear spells. Temperatures, the further east you are, mild in the west. Because of all the cloud and the outbreaks of rain, courtesy of this frontal system. Quite a complex string of weather fronts, which will bring some pretty wet weather over the next couple of days. Mondays forecast brings heavy bursts of rain across Northern Ireland and scotland, particularly the western side of scotland. Some of the rain raising into cornwall, west wales, north west england. The further south and east you are it says lousy dry. It will become increasingly cloudy throughout the day. A windier day tomorrow. The wind coming up from the south. That will bring mild air. A different feel to the weather stop highs 11 15. As we look ahead to tuesday, low pressure very much in charge by this stage. The low sitting to the west of the British Isles could see quite a few light lines, isobars squatting together. It shows it will be a windy day on tuesday. We will see outbreaks of rain again at this stage, mostly for scotla nd rain again at this stage, mostly for scotland and Northern Ireland. A little dry the further south and east you are across england and wales. These are the average wind speeds. We could have goes through irish sea coast anna cross the Northern Isles of well ive around 4050 Northern Isles of well ive around 40 50 mph. The winds up from the south. That much milderfeel to our weather, temperatures 12 18 degrees. But as we head through the weekend stays very unsettled. Wednesday, wednesday quite widely across the British Isles. By the end of the week there are signs that things could turn a little bit drier, at least for a time. With that it would turn a little bit cooler. A very unsettled and changeable week ahead. Quite a quieter day today, but rather cloudy with some spots of rain in places. Back to you. A little bit drier and cooler, i can do without. Exactly. It is breakfast on bbc news. It is 24 minutes past seven. Let us look at the front pages. The observer reporting 1 million young people between the ages of 16 and 24, dubbed the covid generation, will struggle to find work when the furlough scheme ends this month and the papers saying there will be a jobs crisis within weeks. The sunday people says the nhs is facing a shortage of frontline staff and a lack of coronavirus tests, which could produce a perfect winter storm. It also says gp surgeries are facing delays of up to one month to get the flu vaccine. A couple of local people from pages to show you. The main page on the Liverpool Echo website, dominated by the story that the city has negotiated a £50 million support package, an extra 30, taking it up over 51, from the government, to help businesses which are affected government, to help businesses which a re affected by government, to help businesses which are affected by the strict new coronavirus restrictions in the region. Liverpool is in tier three restrictions. The local Manchester Evening News has published a special report detailing the row between local leaders and the government in westminster over whether or not Greater Manchester should be subject to the very high tier three restrictions. Lets have a look at some inside pages. If you do get time to get a paper today you want to have a look and flick through. This is inside the sunday mirror. A sauna this is inside the sunday mirror. A sauna for seal pups is what it is talking about. This is vets who have used a wallpaper steamer, a wallpaper stripper, effectively, to create a sort of sauna like effect for seal pups who are struggling to breathe if they have some kind of bronchial problems. They are able to use that because they found that the veterinary steamers were not creating a human enough environment for them. Lucky them i this story this morning. , thompson. He recorded his favourite song, danny boy, and has ended up with a record boy. He is only 11. Fantastic news for him. Talented lad. 26 minutes past seven. We returned to our top story this morning. Coronavirus and the different restrictions in places. The liveable city region announcing it secured an extra £30 million in business support from the government, bringing the total to £51 million to help businesses across that area, which is in tier three restrictions. Steve rotherham is the metro mayor of liverpool. Thank you forjoining us. We are grateful to you for getting up bright and early for joining grateful to you for getting up bright and early forjoining us on brea kfast bright and early forjoining us on breakfast this morning. We were speaking to Peter Kinsella earlier, he runs a restaurant in liverpool. Are you hopeful this extra cash will help people like him . It will help people like him. It will help secure some of the businesses. As you know, what we need to do is to get through a very difficult period for us and then see whether we can come out the other end with an economy to call an economy and so other end with an economy to call an economy and so we other end with an economy to call an economy and so we put Party Political differences aside and have been working behind the scenes for eight days to get to this stage where we have got a deal which, we are told, will be as good as anyone else in the country gets. Which is great news for you. The government has had a lot of criticism over this for people saying many more money and the government is not giving enough stop they are now. You must be pleased. Well, alongside the money that weve already put into the pot, which is £40 million, this additionalfunding will the pot, which is £40 million, this additional funding will really support those businesses. This whole thing is predicated on the fact that the liveable city region was put into tier three. We were put into tier three because we are the highest transmission rates in the country, so we knew something had to be done in our area. What we wanted was a financial package that would support not only lies, but livelihoods. The key thing is you have the money, but it is a finite amount of money, you could be in for an infinite amount of time. Do you have any idea what the boundaries to bring you of tier three . Is a question that we post to government. What was the Scientific Evidence of going into tier three and into those particular suite of restrictions, because you notice some tensions around different areas getting different restrictions. But the main one for us was, because we understood, you know, having as high transmission rates and the pressures on our nhs, which could be overwhelmed, we said to them, how do we get out of it . What is the exit strategy . What are the thresholds we have to hit was macarthur we measure our progress . And were still for those details. Of course, at the end of the day this is a health crisis. There was a report on friday inside the Royal Liverpool hospital which shows the medics who are struggling. What is the situation in your hospitals across merseyside now . Fairly dire, in all honesty. The hospitals are being overwhelmed. Its not something that might happen in days. People, as we know, are already dying unnecessarily because of the infection rates. And its not just students in our area, people are saying is at the same as manchesters . Its not. It is spreading through the demographic in our city region, especially to the vulnerable groups, so we are in danger of seeing more people dying, even though we know that the treatments have improved. But what that means is people will spend longer in hospital, which also will have an impact on our capacity in the hospitals. Steve we are very grateful to you for taking the time to talk to us. Steve rotherham is the metro mayor of the liveable city region. Liverpool. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with rogerjohnson and sima kotecha. Good morning. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. People who are told to self isolate through nhs test and trace may have their Contact Information shared with police. Its a legal requirement for people to self isolate after a positive test, and the government says forces could be given peoples Contact Details if theyre suspected of flouting the rules. The British Medical Association has warned it might put some people off being tested. People are due to gather in cities across france later to show solidarity, after the killing of a teacher in a terror attack near his school on friday. Samuel paty was apparently targeted after showing his pupils cartoons of the prophet mohammed during a lesson. Teachers unions have organised todays demonstrations to show support for teachers and freedom of speech. Je suis samuel i am samuel has already been trending on social media. A Record Number of shops have closed on britains high streets during the First Six Months of this year. New figures reveal that more than 11,000 outlets have shut between january and june as coronavirus takes its toll on the retail industry. York has been the area worst affected by the closures. Its been a great weekend for birdwatchers, whove caught a glimpse of a bird thats not been seen in britain for 40 years. More than 100 twitchers gathered to see the rufous bush chat in norfolk yesterday. The bird which usually likes warmer climates was apparently heading for a tropical location but went the wrong way obviously didnt have an atlas. Always form in norwich. Obviously. Yesterday was spent mainly watching by, yesterday was spent mainly watching rugby, glittering piece from both codes. The final of the challenge cup, the final of the european cup. Exeter chiefs have been crowned european champions for the first time. They beat the french side racing 92, in the champions cup final in bristol and its a title that caps off a remarkable transformation for the chiefs, as Austin Halewood reports. A title a decade in the making. Ten yea rs a title a decade in the making. Ten years ago exeter won promotion to the premiership in bristol. Now they we re the premiership in bristol. Now they were back again with their sights set on a much bigger prize. They bulld oze set on a much bigger prize. They bulldoze their way up from the fourth tier and the style worked on the biggest stage. Luke cowan dickie crossing before a second pushover try from sam simmons. This much was a clash of styles. The chiefs brought the muscle while rav singh brought the muscle while rav singh brought the muscle while rav singh brought the flow. Irelands simon zebo bringing the french side right back into it. Often the biggest finals are decided by the smallest of margins. An interception thrown by scholars finn russell open the doorfor the chiefs stop by scholars finn russell open the door for the chiefs stop the fine line between brilliance and full business scotland. A policy would be desperate to her back. Despite a late sin bin for the chiefs it was a gap that resting just couldnt close as exeter captain joe gap that resting just couldnt close as exeter captainjoe symonds sealed the win with this kick. Exeters transformation is one of the sports has rarely seen before. The chiefs still dont have too long to celebrate. The premiership final is less tha n celebrate. The premiership final is less than a week away. Austin halewood, bbc news. That was quite an exciting match and we will be talking about it later. There was also plenty of drama in the Merseyside Derby of the season, as everton and liverpool drew 2 2 at goodison park. Everton twice came from behind to stay top of the table, dominic Calvert Lewin scoring their second equaliser here. There was more var controversy though, after liverpool thought theyd won it in injury time, only for sadio mane to be deemed offside. And the other big talking point came in the first half with Virgil Van Dijk forced off injured after this tackle from jordan pickford. So it is not good. He played i dont know how many games in a row he played for us but he could not play on. That is not good. I do not want to say he wanted to do it but of course it is not a challenge that the goalie can do in the box because there is another player and if it is not 100 off side it is a 100 of here. Penalty. Manchester city manager Pep Guardiola got the better of his former assistant mikel arteta as city won 1 0 at the etihad Raheem Sterling with the only goal of the game. Manchester united also won, while chelsea and southampton drew 33. Celtic manager neil lennon says his side cant afford to live off the past as scottish premiership champions after losing the First Old Firm derby of the season at home to rangers. Two Conor Goldson goals earned rangers a 2 0 victory and takes them four points clear at the top of the table. Lennon was furious even before the match started, because his Team Selection was leaked. He says hell investigate the matter. And northern irishmanjonathan rea won his sixth consecutive world superbikes title yesterday. A fourth place finish in the first race of the weekend at estoril in portugal was enough to give rea the title. Victory in todays race would be his 100th in superbikes. Enormous numbers there. And i mentioned that we would talk about the challenge cup because that was an incredible game to one point in it and you have to fill for salford. But there was something about leads lifted the support from rob burrow and itjust lifted the support from rob burrow and it just felt serendipitous that the title was there. I heard it described as a classic and we will talk about rob borrow because it was an emotional day yesterday at wembley as it was an emotional day at wembley yesterday as leeds rhinos lifted rugby leagues challenge cup dedicating the win to former teammate, rob burrows. Rob has Motor Neurone Disease and hes been documenting that experience here on breakfast, and in a special documentary, which was shown before the match. The charity the Mnd Association says robs campaigning has had a huge impact. Lets take a look at how rugby league honoured him yesterday. It is the 2020 challenge cup final. Our guest of honour today in absentia, robert morrow. The whole by absentia, robert morrow. The whole Rugby League Family are very much behind him in his challenge with Motor Neurone Disease. Borrow. Behind him in his challenge with Motor Neurone Disease. Borrow. We carried him all the way through and he has very much been an inspiration for us on this run. And a drop goal and he peels away in celebration i just think it is fitting that we have done it this year for rob and then number seven has come up with a big play. And the man who made that number seven showed so famous down the years who will be watching on with immense pride, i am sure. They can celebrate long and hard. The challenge cup 2020 is in the hands of the rhinos. Chris james is from the Mnd Association. Hejoins us now. Thank you for talking to us this morning and we are grateful to you. It was all about rugby in many ways yesterday but yet the figure of robert burrow was large at the event. It has been a moving and emotional week notjust for event. It has been a moving and emotional week not just for him event. It has been a moving and emotional week notjust for him but for us on the programme reporting his story. It has been an extraordinary week. I would like to say thank you to rob and his family for opening up their lives and their experience that they are living with. They have raised a huge amount of awareness of mnd and the other thing to say is thank you to the clu b thing to say is thank you to the club and rugby league because they made yesterday a fantastic occasion asa made yesterday a fantastic occasion as a match and as a real tribute to robert burrow who was such a great player and a warrior when it comes to fighting his diagnosis. What has it meant for you as a charity this week . It has been extraordinary. We raised a huge amount of awareness and, obviously much needed fund finesse for research into mnd. For example finesse for research into mnd. For exa m ple yesterday we finesse for research into mnd. For example yesterday we saw a 3000 increase of hits on our website which isjust increase of hits on our website which is just extraordinary. Increase of hits on our website which isjust extraordinary. I know that one thing robert really wants to do is to make sure that he raises awareness for people with mnd who do not have the support that he has and do not have family and friends around and can give people hope that in the future we can find a cure for this devastating disease. We have seen a this devastating disease. We have seen a number of high profile sportspeople of which rob is the latest, to briefly speak of his condition. I know there are others. Is there a link with sport . Or not . I think the important thing to say is that we do not know what the cause of mnd is and there is a great deal of Research Going into it so we can find deal of Research Going into it so we canfind a deal of Research Going into it so we can find a cure and treatment for the disease. We know there are a number of factors that come together but obviously this is an area that does need more research. Research has been fairly inconclusive so far so has been fairly inconclusive so far so it is something we need to look at much more closely. And describe. Those who watched the documentary will see how devastatingly quick dissent has been. How aggressive is this disease and how does it affect people differently . Everybodys journey with mnd is different. We have seen with the bbc coverage of rob and his family house fast his disease progressed. Half of people will die within two years and one third within one year. So it can be extremely rapid dig that is why we need more research into mnd and we are pleased to be working in collaboration with the my name is dottie foundation and others and mnd scotla nd dottie foundation and others and mnd scotland to come up with a new initiative to push Forward Research and we hope to announce that in the next few weeks. What kind of research is going on at the moment . At the moment clearly this is a very complex disease but i have heard Scientists Say we are in the best place now, we feel like we are on the cusp of making meaningful discoveries into mnd. Clearly with covid 19 a number of trials have been put on hold or delayed so we are in quite an exciting moment for mnd and we need to get that next push to make sure that we can find a cu re push to make sure that we can find a cure and treatment for what, as you say, is such a devastating disease. It isa say, is such a devastating disease. It is a horrible thing. I have Indirect Family experience, watching afamily Indirect Family experience, watching a family friend with this and it is a family friend with this and it is a horrible disease. It is. But the important thing for people with mnd and their families to know is that there is support out there. Provide support for people in many different ways but also there are specialist clinics where people can get that multidisciplinary co ordinated care that they really need so that we can make sure the quality of life is as high as possible. And some of the money raised this week through robert burrow and the publicity surrounding his condition will go directly to the researchers at the cutting edge . Directly to the researchers at the cuttingedge . It will. And we are making sure that that is happening and we have been working very closely with rob burrow and his family to make sure that the money goes where they would like it to go and make sure that we get the greatest impact out of it because it has had a huge impact. A final thought, people will remember the ice bucket challenge, that was your last really big high profile fundraising thing so it is all about finding ways for individuals or individuals who will engage and ca ptu re individuals who will engage and capture the imaginations of people. It certainly is and i cannot express enough that the difference it makes for with a profile of rob and dolly we are and stephen darby, the footballer, because they speak out about their mnd. Makes a difference and it raises awareness, it gets people to engage and that is so important as we go forward into the future and find a cure. We were speaking to another footballer who suffers and it is wave of them all. Thank you very much, chris. Now, ben, my plants need rain to you have good news . We will get some this week because there is a big change on the way. Today is another fairly quiet day, a fair amount of dry weather around and in some places start the day with clear skies overhead and where that has happened we have mist and fog around. Many more start with ray cloudy conditions and that picture from northamptonshire and through today it will be mostly cloudy, not com pletely it will be mostly cloudy, not completely cloudy, the butt where the cloud is thickest it could bring light and patchy rain. You can see from the chart for today that the rain is not very expensive at all, just some splits and spots but the cloud will be extensive waking up at times, i think across Northern Ireland there will be a sliver of sunshine moving through. Some bright skies through wales and the midlands, the south west of england and also northern scotland seeing bright skies for a time to it will be very cool here, just six degrees below with, eight also in aberdeen and further south, highs of 13 or 14 degrees. A cool day for all of us. Through the evening we keep cloud and we will see rain, more widespread heavy rain pushing through Northern Ireland and up into scotla nd through Northern Ireland and up into scotland whereas for much of england and wales will stay dry with clear spells developing and temperatures will drop lowest in the eastern parts, four or five degrees, will drop lowest in the eastern parts, four orfive degrees, milder further west where there is extra cloud and outbreaks of rain and these frontal systems approaching and this is going to make for an u nsettled and this is going to make for an unsettled start to the week. Some very wet weather around during monday across parts of Northern Ireland and scotland in particular. Heavy rain across high ground in south western scotland sitting some rain grazing into the coast of cornwall, west was in north west england. Further south and east predominantly dry but early sunshine is likely to be replaced by increasing amounts of cloud to a blustery day for monday but the wind coming from the south so that brings mild airand a coming from the south so that brings mild air and a different feel to the weather. 11 15 degrees. And we stick with similar friends in the weather as we head into tuesday because low pressure will be firmly in charge by this stage. A lot of isobars on the chart showing that we will be pretty windy, outbreaks of heavy rain again mostly for Northern Ireland and scotland something drier further south and east. A windy day, particularly gusty for the irish sea coast particularly gusty for the irish seacoast but a mild one with ten between 12 and 18 degrees. So your herbs should see a little rain. That is good news. This is where we say goodbye to viewers time now for this weeks edition of click. Welcome to click. For many of us, 2020 has been the year we have all been stuck at home more than we would have liked. Now for some, spending more time with our partners has been great. For some, it has started to grate. But there are those for whom being locked down with someone else has been no joke at all. Weve heard a lot about how Mental Health issues have been on the rise because of the pandemic, but so has Domestic Abuse. And sadly, some technology can make it easier to abuse a partner or even ex partner whos been trying to break away. The abuse in my relationship was kind of emotional abuse. Things being said rather than physical. Nothing really being done that was obviously tangible, but that changed very quickly. Compounded by a lot of issues during the lockdown, a lot of stress, Financial Stress as well. Ive realised, you know, it was a lot of financial control, control of sort of how often i could work, i realised actually how much he was limiting my ability to work. Meet kate and sue. Well, those are the names we have given to protect their anonymity for their own safety. Their stories are some of many experienced during lockdown. In the first few weeks, the Police Received a Domestic Service call almost every 30 seconds. In 2019, in the uk alone, there were almost 2. 5 million Domestic Abuse cases reported, and many still go unrecorded. When i was trying to leave, i found that he was monitoring my location on my phone, monitoring my screen time, that was being shared with him. Increasingly, technology has become a tool for abuse. Survivors often reporting beings stalked through tracking apps on their phones, keyloggers on their computers or their lives being controlled through Smart Devices in their homes. Kate sought help from womens Domestic Violence charity refuge. Although Domestic Abuse can happen to anyone, women are still three times more likely to experience violence and harassment. And the charity says over 70 of those contacting it have experienced some technological abuse, one of the things it specialises in dealing with. And the law is finally catching up. The uk recently passed a landmark Domestic Abuse bill recognising that tech abuse is part of the problem. It will make it illegal to use modern technology to track or spy on a partner or ex partner. But beyond the legislation, there is a wider debate around the products themselves, and whether they should be designed to offer better protection in these scenarios. So a small team of employees at ibm have decided to try and solve the problem. Theyve devised a new set of Design Principles for Tech Companies to build on. Right at the beginning of our research, we saw that there is help and guidance available to people who are facing this kind of abuse. But the bulk of it focuses on keeping safe by educating yourself in the technology. We believe that the burden of safety shouldnt fall solely on the shoulders of the end user. The list ibm has devised is long but they do have some interesting points. Take for example a box like this, that looks pretty harmless, also a place where you might leave a nice gift message to somebody, or when it comes to online banking, somewhere where you may make a note of a reference. But they are also being used for more sinister purposes. A place where perpetrators can continue their abuse. One suggested solution is to make them smart, automatically monitoring for abusive language patterns of behaviour to potentially spot and stop them happening. But some changes suggested are hard to implement and need a bigger rethink. If the devices in our home had obvious alerts when they are remotely activated, and kept a digital record of who did what, when, this would make it difficult for abuses to obscure and distort the truth. Furthermore, having a manual override on the devices would return some of the power to the local user. With Smart Devices becoming more commonplace, this issue has become more urgent to tackle. Everything i had was like hand me down phones, hand me down laptops, so he would set up all the accounts, erm, he would set up family sharing on things, there was various alexa devices all over the property, he could go to someones house and ring the alexa when we were at home. Family apps are another area of concern, something that many of us used to monitor our childrens safety, but in an abusive relationship theyre also the apps that are most open to misuse, because theyre all about sharing information. Even though location data is central to the apps function, most dont notify users when theyve been tracked, or constantly push users to turn location settings on, even when theyve been actively disabled. As our digital lives become more intertwined with our home lives, these issues will only become more prevalent. I think the companies should know what the products could be used for, and when youre in a couple and the account is going to be registered to one e mail address, when something goes wrong, the person cant rectify anything or change details, you are stuck. He locked me out of our shared amazon account, which had my credit card details for all the payments. I rang up amazon and i said, i cant take my card from this account. They said, sorry, you just have to cancel your bank cards. Designs to better protect against controlling and stalking behaviour can improve privacy and security for all of us. But for the hundreds of millions affected by Domestic Abuse every year, change cant come soon enough. Here i am playing a next gen game on a next gen machine the xbox series x. But this is really only a taster of the next gen experience, rather than the full three courses. You see, the console that ive been using for the last couple of weeks is prerelease, that means that lot and lots of things from the user interface to its overall performance will be tweaked and changed by the time people get their hands on the finished machine. So, for the purposes of a preview, we can only really talk about a limited number of its features. The first next gen games we get to preview are certainly an odd couple. Japanese rpg, ya kuza like a dragon, and racing title dirt 5, are two completely different games that demonstrate that the next generation looks quite a bit like the current generation, though with a bit more polish. A role playing game with turn based combat, like yakuza, is perhaps not the best title to show off this new machines new abilities. Man wanna fight . Punch. Oof a slightly surreal take on life on life as a japanese gangster, it looks nice enough the smooth frame rate and sharp visuals, but its not what youd call a poster child for the next gen. Da da da daa never fear, part time hero is here for that, youd need a game with a bit more visual razzle dazzle, which is where racing titles usually shine. Off road racing across a huge variety of tracks in all weathers is the order of the day here. But again, apart from good, not amazing visuals, im yet to get any of the next gen feels from either of these games. Much has been made of the series xs ability to drastically reduce load times. This is in part thanks to its nvme ssd and the velocity architecture which joins up all of the consoles new hardware to some smart software. There are still load times, but theyre much shorter. When we compare it to the machine it replaces, you can see the differences appear. When youre playing no mans sky, on the one x, it takes about a minute and a half to load. On the series x, its 20 seconds much faster and when the games up and running, we see some stability improvements in the visuals as well. Then we come to quick resume. On current gen machines, if you want to play a different game to one youve already played, loading up the next title can take several minutes. Now its just seconds. On series x, quick resume drastically reduces the time it takes to switch between titles, and games pick up right where you left them. So far i have tested this to be able to resume about five games at any one time, but that could change with the finished machine. Lots has been made about backwards compatibility on this generation of consoles, and there is a very large back compatible catalogue for the series x you can play. Its also been suggested that next gen games could cost as much as £70 a pop, and the launch line up of titles for the series x and ps5 isnt exactly stellar. So, a back catalogue of older, but well regarded games helps bolster the proposition. For series x, it enjoys quite a lot of backwards compatibility, with a lot, but not all xbox games, that includes games from the xbox one, 360 and original machine. Onto the machine itself its a commanding presence in the living room much larger than the machine it replaces the xbox one x. While the older machine discreetly slots away beneath tvs across the globe, the series x towers next to the tv it looks a little bit like the monolith from 2001 a space odyssey, however, like most of us during lockdown, it seems to have piled on the pounds. It is a big bit of kit. Were now in the final straight before the launch of all of the next gen consoles. Well bring you reviews of this and its cheaper, less powerful sibling, the series s, as well as the ps5 ahead of their launch next month. Thats it for the short cut of click for this week. The full length version is up on iplayer, and its waiting for you right now. As ever, throughout the week you can find the team on youtube, instagram, facebook and twitter, bbcclick. Thank you for watching, and well see you soon. Bye bye good morning, welcome to breakfast with rogerjohnson and sima kotecha. Our headlines today police in england are to be allowed to access the details of people whove been told to self isolate by the nhs test and trace system. Britains high streets under threat as a Record Number of shops close over the First Six Months of this year. Nicola adams makes strictly come dancing history, as she became the first celebrity to perform as part of a same sex couple. Winning it for rob burrow leeds rhinos are inspired to victory in the challenge cup by theirformer star. Its said to be another mostly cloudy and rather chilly day. There will be patchy rain in places. Through the week ahead it turns much wetter, much windier but briefly milder. Details coming up. Good morning. Its sunday, october 18th. Our top story. Police forces in england are to be allowed to access some of the details of people whove been told to self isolate by nhs test and trace. The department of health say requests will be dealt with on a case by case basis, but the British Medical Association has warned it might put some people off being tested. John mcmanus reports. The streets of the capital last night as londoners spend their first evening under the tiered to high alert restrictions. It was calm in dalston. But a few miles west in soho the scene was busier. Mixing outside is still allowed here as long as the rule of six is followed. And sitting behind the new alert levels is the test and trace system. It has now emerged that the data of users may be shared by police if they are suspected of failing to self isolate following a positive test for them or those they live with. The government says this will occur on a case by case basis, but it has brought criticism from the British Medical Association and the liberal democrats. Their leader called it a huge mistake, adding that asking our already overstretched Police Service to take on this task is self defeating and a serious misjudgment. Meanwhile, the stand off over which to level the Greater Manchester region should be under continues. The mayor andy burnham has denied further talks have been scheduled for this morning. The government says it did reach out. Whitehall wants Greater Manchester to join lancashire and the Liverpool City Region in the very high alert level. Star burnham is insisting on Financial Support for businesses. I do think it is very good that hes holding out for better measures. It has been done now. Also there is a point where you cannot hold human lives as a leveraged any more. cannot hold human lives as a leveraged any more. I dont know how well tier 3 would work out. We have been into your to four months and it doesnt seem to have helped much. Maybe the Circuit Breaker might be a better thing to try. Across the uk 16,171 new cases of the virus were recorded in the latest 24 hour period. 150 new deaths were also registered in the same time. And amid all the other political wrangling the Prime Minister is relu cta nt to wrangling the Prime Minister is reluctant to order england into a nationwide lockdown, something he fears would put the brakes on any recovery. John mcmanus, bbc news. Lets talk to our Political Correspondent, jonathan blake. Lets talk about the nhs test and trace first of all, some people would be a little worried about the fa ct would be a little worried about the fact police may have access to some of that information . Yes, it is not the case that Police Forces have access the case that Police Forces have a ccess o n the case that Police Forces have access on a blanket basis to the details of anyone who has been asked to self isolate, either because theyve tested positive themselves or come into close contact with somebody who has. But it does now appear to be the case, as was first reported in the Health Service journal, there was an agreement between the department of health and Police Forces. On that basis a statement from the Health Department said that the memorandum of understanding ensures information shared with appropriate safeguards and in accordance with the law, no testing or health data is shared in this process. Perhaps the case that if Police Suspect summary is not complying with the law because they have been asked to self isolated but are not doing so, then they can asked request details of whether that person has been asked to self isolate. Remember that is now a legal requirement in england. So on one level this may well be a case of the police having the information they need to be able to effectively enforce the law. But as you have seen enforce the law. But as you have seen this morning it is nevertheless causing some concern. It is an important point to make though, isnt it . It is just about enforcing the law rather than anything else. The row is rumbling on over whether pa rt the row is rumbling on over whether part of the north west, Greater Manchester, north west of england, go into the third tier . Yes, and an intervention last night by some conservative mps representing different parts of england where the virus cases are far lower, writing to sir keir starmer, the labour leader, and Manchester Burnham urging them to engage with the government on this region this region by region system that sees different places under different tiers of restrictions. They say a nationwide tightening of the rules for a time limited period would be counter productive and unfair on their constituencies, virus cases are relatively low. If they were trying to help it has backfired. Because lots of conservative mps in Greater Manchester have hit back, saying this is completely unhelpful. And that they are doing this with the backing of number 10. Many of those tory mps are in fact speaking with one voice alongside the labour mayor of Greater Manchester in trying to get the best deal possible, alongside restrictions that may well be imposed. So if they meant well it certainly has not gone as well as they had hoped and they have ended up enraging many of their conservative colleagues. Jonathan blake, thank you. People are due to gather in cities across france later to show solidarity, after the killing of a teacher in a terror attack near his school on friday. He was apparently targeted after showing his pupils a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad during a lesson. You may find some of the details in this report by our paris correspondent, lucy williamson, upsetting. This is the Moment Police confronted the man who beheaded a teacher on a suburban street. Drop your weapon, they shout. The suspect shoots at them with a bb gun. The next sound you will hear is Police Firing back. Frances Counter Terrorism prosecutor named the suspect have Abdullah Kurdi a, a chechen man with Refugee Status in france. Translation he lived an hours drive away from Conflans Sainte Honorine and had to ask pupils to point is targeted. Out samuel paty was a teacher of history and geography who decided to use two cartoons of muhammad as part of a class on freedom of speech. Investigators say it sparked a social Media Campaign by one outraged parent and that there had been threats against the school. Translation the priority for us is to look after the children because i think it was very hard for them and it still is. Translation memories are going to come back. He will say, my teacher is not there, and there are photographs going around of the scene, apparently. I hope he does not see those because i think they are already affected by this for life. Flowers mark the places where lives are shattered. In france that list has grown longer this week. Retail is facing one of its toughest years in recent memory, and new figures show a Record Number of shops closed across Great Britain in the first six moths of this year. Lets find out about some of the big problems facing the industry. We can now speak to victoria nichol, who is the manager of the Merseyway Shopping Centre in stockport. Thank you for getting up on a sunday and joining us this morning. We know the high street has gone through a real change over the last few years. It was really struggling before the pandemic. It got worse after the pandemic. It got worse after the pandemic. What are your observations about the high street in stockport at the moment . We have been really fortu nate at the moment . We have been really fortunate in stockport in that we have not seen any severe losses in stockport and in the Shopping Centre. My observations are that people are out there shopping and they are so shopping safely. What is important to get across this morning is that all of the retailers are working so hard behind the scenes to make sure that the environment is safe, it is safe for the customer and it is safe for the user visitor. It is the same with the Shopping Centre. We are working tirelessly to make sure that we are sanitising touch points. You can come and enjoy your shop. A lot of people have been shopping online. Footfall has decreased dramatically. Not as many people going into shops as before. What are businesses doing to try to get more people to come back into the shops . to try to get more people to come back into the shops . I think that were trying to be very creative with our marketing. Shopping centres we re with our marketing. Shopping centres were once seen as a place with our marketing. Shopping centres were once seen as a place not with our marketing. Shopping centres were once seen as a place notjust to come and shop, but we would have major events on to attract the customer, to get them there for other reasons and then to shop. That is challenging. We have had to park those events and activations. We are trying to make sure that when you do visit you are having a great shopping experience, you can come and shop and see those products, see them safely, and carry on. All of our retailers are looking at different ways of marketing their businesses. Clever social Media Strategies to entice you to the retail space. If you want your high street, youre Shopping Centre they are, when we come through this, you need to support your local economy. You need to go out and practice exactly what the government is asking you to do and go and support your local high street, coming to the Shopping Centres and high street and support them, because we want those retailers to stay around. Thank you so much forjoining us. In order to help the situation, were being encouraged to start our Christmas Shopping early this year. Lets speak to the chief executive of the british retail consortium, helen dickinson. Helen, good morning. Thank you for talking to us. Why do you want us to start early . I mean, if we are going to do it, why does it matter if we do it now . Well, im sure we all recognise that celebrations this year are going to be a little bit different. The reason why were encouraging people to shop early is exactly as victoria was saying, to prevent that last minute rush we normally see around christmas and ensure that all our fellow customers, the colleagues that work both in stores and the delivery drivers in warehouses, behind the scenes, have the space that they need to stay safe and well. It is just another step in that focus on safety for us all and avoiding that last minute peak where we are all rushing around at the last minute to ensure that were not disappointed and that everybody can stay safe. Ensure that were not disappointed and that everybody can stay safem isa and that everybody can stay safem is a really good point, to be fair. We were talking about this in the office at half past four this morning. One of our colleagues were saying, if you have to queue up for ages to get into a shop a week before christmas you are going to walk away and do it online. Basically if you want to browse, if you want to look at things, we need to spread the load, that is effectively what you are asking, isnt it . Well, it applies online as well as in stores. So we are shopping more online than we have done previously. But again, the peak applies whether you are talking about stores or warehouses. So really, thinking about things early, ensuring that all of us as shoppers, as well as all the people who work in those warehouses, the delivery drivers as well as those in stores, can stay safe is really important. And will ensure that none of us get disappointed because the backdrop is so disappointed because the backdrop is so difficult for us all at the moment. I think that would be the last thing we need. We all do still wa nt to last thing we need. We all do still want to ensure that there is that special element to christmas. How concerned are you by the findings from the data out this morning about a Record Number of closures in the First Six Months of the year on the high street . I think every closure isa high street . I think every closure is a really sad story because obviously there are jobs and people that are affected by it. I think that are affected by it. I think that what we have seen is that people, again as victoria was saying, have been out and shopping. So overall in september, retail sales were up quite a reasonable amount. What we havent done though asa amount. What we havent done though as a country is made good what we lost over the course of the whole of the last six months. So whether its getting out into your local area or shopping online, basically you are supporting a local business. And i think the Retail Businesses will be very grateful for that because they have really put a lot of effort and resource and time and training in making sure that the environments, wherever they are, as safe. And this campaign about encouraging people to shop early isjust campaign about encouraging people to shop early is just another step in ensuring safety and ensuring that we dont get disappointed and miss out on some of our christmas presents as well. Helen, we get the message. We are very well. Helen, we get the message. We are very grateful to you. Helen dickinson. Ben, when my alarm went off at three this morning it was lovely and warm and snug and i struggled to get out of bed. It felt, for me, as if winter had started stop getting up this time of the morning in the middle of the winter, when the mornings are dark and cold, i hear you. I havent got much hope on the horizon. As far as the weather is concerned, it will turn milder over the next few days. This was the scene the next few days. This was the scene in cumbria for a short time ago. A little bit of brightness but ago. A little bit of brightness but a lot of cloud. That is the theme for today. Mostly cloudy, the chance of some light rain. You can see from the weather graphics a large amount of cloud across parts of the uk. There will be some sunshine. We could see some passing Northern Ireland. Some brighter spells across england and wales. Northern scotland should see some spells of sunshine. It will be very chilly at seven to 8 degrees. Even further south at 13 or 14. Probably not much to tempt you out from under the duvet if you havent yet made your move. Through this evening and tonight, a lot of cloud. For Northern Ireland and scotla nd cloud. For Northern Ireland and scotland outbreaks of rain. Clear spells across parts of england and wales. Temperatures on the low side across eastern areas, may be down to 45 degrees. Milder in the west where we see these frontal systems approaching. Quite a complex string of weather fronts which will bring rain across Northern Ireland and scotla nd rain across Northern Ireland and scotland tomorrow. Particularly wet in western scotland. Some rain grazing como, west wales and north west england. The further north west england. The further north and east you are, largely dry micro but increasingly cloudy. A blustery day. The wind coming from the south. That will change the feel of the weather. Milder air from the south. Temperatures 12 to 15 degrees. As we look further ahead, a very unsettled week. Rain at times. Wendy on tuesday and wednesday. Milderfor wendy on tuesday and wednesday. Milder for a wendy on tuesday and wednesday. Milderfor a time but then wendy on tuesday and wednesday. Milder for a time but then actually some cool days return before the end of the week. Back to you. Thanks, ben. There are calls for more clarity on the rules in essex, after parts of the county were divided by new coronavirus restrictions this weekend. Most of essex has been placed in the high risk, or tier two level, but two towns remain under the more relaxed medium risk measures. Lets speak now to councillor neil stock, whos leader of tendring council, which in the high risk tier, and currently has the most coronavirus cases in essex. Thank you for coming on this morning. Good morning. With different parts of your county under different parts of your county under different tiers, are people not confused, . Different tiers, are people not confused, . I think different tiers, are people not confused, . Ithink people different tiers, are people not confused, . I think people do know where they live in essex. Obviously you do get anomalies. If you live in canvey you do get anomalies. If you live in ca nvey island you you do get anomalies. If you live in Canvey Island you cant meet a friend in a pub. What if you pop over to southend a couple of miles down the road you can meet. You get those anomalies. Most people do understand the differences. It is a lwa ys understand the differences. It is always a problem with local lockdowns. Where i live in the north of the county on two miles from the border with suffolk. Some people who live in suffolk have an essex postal address but dont live in essex, so that makes it more confusing. But when there are different rules down the road from one person to another, do you think people will be compliant . I do have a concern about peoples willingness now to carry on complying. We went into lockdown in march and we had virtually 100 compliance without any thing compulsory. The government said we needed to do it and we did it. Seven months later peoples support for thatis months later peoples support for that is wearing thin. They see a lot of the lockdowns dont work. They are not terribly effective. The World Health Organization have advocated against them. We are seeing the effects of lockdown. It affects the poorest people the ha rd est, affects the poorest people the hardest, people are losing jobs, livelihoods and incomes. The people you are, are very livelihoods and incomes. The people you are, are very unhappy about it. We have seen the effects on Mental Health and council referrals. The nhs has been so lockdown for so long. Peoples determination is wearing thin and i do worry about that. We are getting low level civil disobedience taking place and that i could escalate and it would be terrible if it did. How much impact input did you having to these new restrictions . We have seen debates between local authorities and the government elsewhere. Did you have a say in that decision . I had a say in it but it was made clear to me that it but it was made clear to me that it would happen regardless of what my opinion was. I initially said to the county council i was strongly against the idea completely. Speaking to the director of public health, mike gogarty, he convinced me it was the right thing to do to get us out quicker, that we would be in this tier 2 for less time than if we waited for the government to force us into it. He convinced me that was the right thing to do. I was quite reluctant. I dont think the tier system is the right way of approaching lockdown. I dont take it as approaching lockdown. I dont take itasa approaching lockdown. I dont take it as a right way of approaching dealing with coronavirus. We have to look at other ways instead of locking down society and the economy because it is having such a detrimental impact. Just looking at the numbers, the cases per 100,000 in tendring are now above 100. How concerned are you about those numbers . Im pretty relaxed, to be honest. A few weeks ago tendring had the lowest rates in the entire country. We have had a bit of a spike. There was one particular incident that has led to a lot of cases in tendring. The population is about 145, 150,000 people. You are only talking about 150 people across a large district with several towns, cla cton, a large district with several towns, clacton, brightlingsea etc. Those people spread out across the district. There was a concentration in clacton. Hopefully those numbers are coming down again. We had a concentration just after lockdown at a factory in harwich that led to a spike in numbers, and that was managed. The numbers came down again. Im quite confident. The medics now so much more about dealing with covid 19 that people are not dying in the same way. It is are not dying in the same way. It is a horrible thing still but the hospitalisation rates are not leading to to such negative outcomes because people can be treated. There are more positive outcomes. We de need to be more positive about how we deal with this and not so negative and depressing. 0k, and not so negative and depressing. Ok, thank you. Theatres and music venues have been particularly hard hit by the lockdown restrictions this year. Now some of those working in the industry have set out to raise awareness of the difficulties theyre facing, by setting off on a gruelling cycle ride across england. Well speak to some of those involved in a moment. First, heres a look at their journey so far. On your marks, get set, go bicycle, bicycle, bicycle. I want to ride my. Bicycle, bicycle. Bicycle bicycle bicycle race. Bells ring two of the cyclists, Steve Reynolds and mark ward, join us now from east london. Along with all their team mates by the looks of it. Thank you for talking to us this morning. Out of has this been and how much support have you had along the way, steve . Its been really, really tall. We are none of us are cyclists. Leisure cyclist, a bit of commuting. We never really knew we could get around for a start. The fact we have had such amazing support all the way around and obviously these guys here, it has been massively helpful. Mark, how confident are you that things might start to return to normal, or are you feeling still pessimistic about the future . Our business is being pretty good at being not pessimistic. We are pretty positive points. This tour is to emphasise the positivity of the industry, we are desperate to get back to work and we need some help to do that. Steve comer what reaction have you had from people as you have gone past in on your bikes . Its been amazing. We have talked to so many people across the country. Lots of different stories. People in theatres, music venues, exhibition centres. They alljust wa nt to exhibition centres. They alljust want to get back to work. The reaction has obviously been positive. We want to keep that going. Mark, the industry has been severely affected by this pandemic, like other industries such as hospitality. What are you hoping to get from doing this . hospitality. What are you hoping to get from doing this . I guess there are many things we are hoping to achieve. One is to spread some positivity and to be seen to be doing something practical rather than sitting at home and complaining about it. There are a bunch of people beginning to lose some hope in our business and we hope we can reinvigorate them. We want to make the point to government that we do need targeted help for our business. Industries like ours, and we are still not the only one that cant function because of the pandemic, and we understand the reasons why. Nobody is saying we should all be able to go back to mass events tomorrow. But we need to do safe events a reasonable level where people can make money. Some targeted help for the people still out of work through no fault their own. The vat thing would be great, to continue that, to make tickets for all events cheaper as we come through this. Steve, the government has actually provided funding for the arts industry. What are your thoughts around that . I have just heard mark saying he would like more targeted support. Yeah, the recovery fu nd targeted support. Yeah, the Recovery Fund has been helpful to a lot of businesses, but 95 of the supply chain that we represent have not had anything. Still needs to some support. It is those freelance people, self employed people, who you might bring in to help on your particular event on an ad hoc basis, they are the people who are struggling, and they are the people who are struggling, and they, mark . Completely, and i think part of that isa completely, and i think part of that is a misunderstanding, or a failure to get a grip on how our business works. People are trying to help with the best of intentions but we are a freelance based business. My business, we employ freelancers, we employ hundreds of freelancers over the summer. We got nothing from the cultural Recovery Fund. I know a lot of other businesses in the same boat. We have spent decades in this business, we have managed to achieve some pretty Amazing Things but we are still not seen as being worthy of help through the cultural Recovery Fund. It would be great if there was another look at the people who have left to have been left out and still need help, and tag of the detail of those people. That is what this is about. The people behind the scenes, that the people who are not on stage, and of course the musicians and back up folks, we not talking about the superstars, they have no means making money. They dont see how that is going to change any time soon. Just a final one, really quickly. 1500 kilometres, you said you are not cyclists. Saddle sore . Yes. Beyond dont even go there. Well done. We wish you well. Best of luck. Too much information, that stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with rogerjohnson and sima kotecha. Its 8 30am, heres a summary of this mornings main news. Samuel paty was apparently targeted after showing his pupils cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a lesson. Teachers unions have organised todays demonstrations to show support for teachers and freedom of speech. Je suis samuel i am samuel has already been trending on social media. A Record Number of shops have closed on britains high streets during the First Six Months of this year. New figures reveal that more than 11,000 outlets have shut between january and june, as coronavirus takes its toll on the retail industry. York has been the area worst affected by the closures. Its been a great weekend for birdwatchers, whove caught a glimpse of a bird thats not been seen in britain for 40 years. More than 100 twitchers gathered to see the rufous bush chat in norfolk yesterday. The bird, which usually likes warmer climates, was apparently heading for a tropical location but went the wrong way lets catch up on sports. A lot of by lets catch up on sports. A lot of rugby to talk about. Yes, really good day for rugby fans, whether you are league or union yesterday. A packed afternoon. We will with league. Start with league. There was high drama at wembley as leeds rhinos won rugby leagues challenge cup, beating Salford Red Devils 17 16. This try from leeds ash handley, his second of the game pulled the rhinos level before a late drop goal from luke gale won the famous old trophy for leeds. A day of high emotion. As former rhinos player rob burrow was guest of honour in absentia as he continues to raise awareness for Motor Neurone Disease. Rob is with us in spirit, thats for sure. We have carried him all the way through and he has been very much an inspiration for us on this run and ijust think it is really fitting that we have done this for rob and that its gray with the number seven on his back that came up with the big play. Exeter chiefs have been crowned european champions for the first time. They beat the french side racing 92, in the champions cup final in bristol. Exeter had a slender lead at half time, but it was this pass from racing and scotland fly half finn russell that changed the game. An interception caught byjack nowell, with henry slade finishing off the move to score. And it was a lead that exeter never gave up. It caps a remarkable transformation for the chiefs, who were in the fourth tier of english rugby when rugbys european cup competition began. A quick look at the football results. The first Merseyside Derby of the season didnt disappoint, as everton and liverpool drew 2 2 at goodison park. Everton twice came from behind to stay top of the table, dominic Calvert Lewin scoring their second equaliser here. There was more var controversy though after liverpool thought theyd won it in injury time, only for sadio mane to be deemed offside. Just by the finest of margins. And the other big talking point came in the first half with Virgil Van Dijk forced off injured after this tackle from jordan pickford. And while it was honours even on merseyside, Conor Goldson scored twice for rangers as they beat celtic 2 0 in the old firm derby. Victory for Steven Gerrards side takes them four points clear at the top of the scottish premiership. Just a quick skip around the sports headlines for you, do not have time to squeeze in everything, but full coverage on the bbc sport website. What a lovely skip it was. Shes inspired children across the globe to fight against Climate Change and has spoken in front of the United Nations. But just two years ago, Greta Thunberg was a lone campaigner, ditching school to stage a weekly protest to highlight the problems of facing the planet. Now a new documentary reveals gretas personal journey for the first time. Our environment correspondent, justin rowlatt, has been taking a look. People always tell us that young people are going to save the world, but there is simply not enough time to wait. The fallout from Climate Change. All of this with the global warming, its a hoax. This film is notjust the story of one young girls incredible rise to internationalfame. I do not care about being popular. But also a touching coming of age movie. You have to go to school. We follow greta as she discovers her unique strength and her voice. My name is Greta Thunberg and i want you to panic. We are in the midst of a mass extinction. Time is running out. We learn what motivates her and the tension between her compulsion to campaign on climate. When i get interested in a subject, i become laser focused. And her Mental Health. You suffer with aspergers syndrome. I would not say suffer from, but i have it. It is an extraordinary adventure. I have been invited to the United Nations summit and since i dont fly, it is going to be a challenge. And a fascinating study of the difficulties of communicating the urgency of tackling the climate crisis. We will not stop until we are done. It is an incredible behind the scenes documentary. One hour and a half, it is going to be in cinemas and we are going to talk to the director of it it was his first film as well, actually. Well talk to him in a couple of minutes. Schools are being urged not to neglect sport and physical exercise as they attempt to get back to normal after not done. There are concerns that pe lessons are being forgotten about as children catch up with other subjects such as english and maths. Breakfastsjohn maguire has been to a school in yorkshire to find out why sport is so important. When these children go home and look at videos of jason when these children go home and look at videos ofjason robinson on the internet, they will think racing against him means that they could conquer the world, as he did in the Rugby World Cup in 2003. He is here at sandwell castle primary in wakefield to lend his support to the campaign to encourage more sport and pe in schools, inspiring the pupils with his own experiences. Ph should be at the heart of every school day, because i know from my own story, i was not academic, so growing up, the pe teacher at that loved rugby, got me into rugby for the first time and i went on then to do some Amazing Things, but it is really important now, more than ever, that pe is given its rightful place in a school. I like swimming, because you can do lots of different strikes and you can swim with your own it moves. I like you can swim with your own it moves. Ilike pe you can swim with your own it moves. I like pe because it is my favourite thing to do and i always do it. Well done sue has spent her adult life encouraging children to be active. A former teacher, she now leads the association for physical education and says as a schools try to catch up and says as a schools try to catch up following lockdown, pe is more important than ever. There is no need to fear teaching physical education. It will help with the behaviour of the young people, help them to settle, it will help them socially and also have a positive impact cognitively. Heads, we need to get you to get behind this and pa rents, to get you to get behind this and parents, we need you to get your children are going back swimming and getting back into physical education. I do quite like cricket, because it is really fun. I like doing the batting the most. Because it is really fun. I like doing the batting the mostm because it is really fun. I like doing the batting the most. It makes me feel confident and good during pe and it helps me with my work from class. This primary has around 630 pupils and eight teachers on the pe staff. It is a major aspect of the school and of the Childrens School date. They are particularly proud of that pool and that children are still swimming, all within the rules and regulations designed to control the covid. It is difficult, but it is doable and you just have to be resilient and focused on ensuring that you adhere to the guidance, but continue to stay true to what you really believe in and in showing that our pe curriculum drives the curriculum, a attainment continues to be one of the highest in the country. Ijoint pe because it is fun, you get to do lots of running andjumping. Fun, you get to do lots of running and jumping. I fun, you get to do lots of running andjumping. I enjoy pe. fun, you get to do lots of running andjumping. I enjoy pe. Ienjoy playing because it helps your blood pressure. And you can run around and jog pressure. And you can run around and jog and stuff and that is what i love doing. And this year has seen at schools under pressure like never before, but here they believe the best way to relieve that pleasure is to blow off steam. Going back to that documentary we just had about a few minutes ago about Greta Thunberg. Nathan grossman, the director of the documentary, joins us from home in stockholm. Thank you so much for coming on. I watched that documentary last night andi watched that documentary last night and i dont know about you, but i was really moved by it. I think the compilation, the music and also the very intimate testimony from her about how she was feeling. What was it like for you, because it was your first documentary . Yes, it was my first documentary . Yes, it was my first feature film. Of course, it was very first feature film. Of course, it was very special. I dont know about any other film maker, but when i was very special. I dont know about any otherfilm maker, but when i do film i tend to forget about who is going to watch it and so on, so i was a little bit surprised that it became such a big film so it was very special. How did it begin . Because you had not set out to make this documentary, had you . It fell into your lap this documentary, had you . It fell into yourlapa this documentary, had you . It fell into your lap a bit . Yes, very much, like many documentaries it started with a tip, got a tip from a friend who knew gretas family a bit and that she was going to do some kind of strike outside the Swedish Parliament and this was in august 2018. I had a discussion with my boss and we thought it could be interesting to go down and do some kind of a recce to see if she was interested , kind of a recce to see if she was interested, so went to this cold street outside the swedish government building and found her there and asked if i could try to frame hole for a day or two microfilm half a day or two, and said do not get hopes up this will become something. And i continued to try filming heather. It was incredible, it turned out to be the most remarkable story of the last year or so, most remarkable story of the last year or so, what is your impression of her . Of course, i think my impression has changed during the course of the filming. I have always been very interested in trying to understand who she really was, because already from the beginning in sweden, people were coming by and she became like a local media phenomenon in a sense and she did lots of interviews, like the ones im doing now, short, and i wanted to try to understand a little bit more of who she was and the film making process was a lot about trying to get that access and get into her inner monologue, because i think everyone has this inner monologue, it is the way we think of the world. I hope i captured that in the world. I hope i captured that in the film. You certainly did. You see her emotions, follow her as she goes around the world to the United Nations, the european parliament, you see her with emmanuel macron, the french president , you see her at the french president , you see her at the british parliament. Is incredible access, people have criticised her and said that she is a puppet being controlled by her pa rents a puppet being controlled by her parents or by other people, bigger forces may be. You certainly do not get that impression watching her film make yourfilm, it seems like this is all hurt. Yes, definitely, i think she carries all the knowledge and from what ive seen the knowledge and from what ive seen she really knows where she was to go with her activism. But from local organisers, the School Strike movement is really interesting in a way that it is very well planned and there is a lot of help. To get help from scientists to read through her speeches to make sure the facts are correct and so on. How do you think she handles the criticism that this is all a bit too much for her . Because in some of the film, she is only 15 and there is that very scene where she says this is just too much responsibility for my shoulders. When it comes to criticism, i was very interested in also trying to understand that and without spoiling too much, i encountered in one scene very interesting reaction which i think is very much how she saw the criticism, she reacted not as many others would do, she laughed it off a little bit and it was funny and i think sometimes maybe people of her generation have this interesting relationship to be hate on the internet, they seem to be so sadly have been growing up with that mentality on the web, with anonymous accou nts mentality on the web, with anonymous accounts and lots of hatred and it seems they have a better way maybe to think about it than many of us that are older. It is interesting, you say she talks very openly all the way through and clearly does feel a great weight of responsibility. What was your. Is she nice . In that in a nice way, but she nice . In that in a nice way, but she has aspergers, not that that would not make her nice, but she comes across as a lovely girl, you we re comes across as a lovely girl, you were there with her. She is very nice and i think she is very funny, i think she has watched in sweden we call it british sense of humour which is a little bit dark and ironic and i think that way of looking at the world, when it comes to Climate Change, it is a little bit like british humour in the sense that it bit like british humour in the sense thatitis bit like british humour in the sense that it is dark, but i think that is pa rt that it is dark, but i think that is part of greta that was nice. We have seen part of greta that was nice. We have seen herfairly stoic part of greta that was nice. We have seen her fairly stoic in the media andi seen her fairly stoic in the media and i hope that the film you get more dimensions of her and the humour side. You do, she is definitely multifaceted. When she is with emmanuel macron, she says i am a nerd. She really knows her stuff. Absolutely, very briefly, do you think she is going to continue, because as roger was saying, some of her critics do feel that this perhaps is damaging her rather than actually making her evolve as a person into an adult . Yes, i think she will continue. She is back in high school and studying, she took a sabbatical year and now she is back. Ido sabbatical year and now she is back. I do not have the same contact i had with her when we were filming, but i think it is important to remember that both she and the entire School Movement do not want to carry this responsibility. In many ways, they just had to because they have no political or economical power. I think when they said the adult generation were not taking care of this, it slipped onto their shoulders. Sought the adult generation were not taking care of this. It was so interesting that these children, they did not want to strike in a sense. Many of them were nerdy and would like the adult word instead to take care of this. Thank you, the director of the film i am greta. Really worth watching. I am offered to read the news that andrew marr now. Lets look at the weather. In weather terms it is looking pretty cloudy for most of us today, this was the scene as cloudy for most of us today, this was the scene as we cloudy for most of us today, this was the scene as we started off the morning and the scottish highlands. A bit misty and murky. There are some breaks in the cloud, a beautiful moody scene for this weather watcher close to bradford, but i think we can sun up today like this. It will be mostly cloudy, not com pletely this. It will be mostly cloudy, not completely and that cloud will produce some light rain. This is the weather chart for today, you can see a lot of cloud across just about all the parts of the uk. Best chances of seeing such and i think across parts of Northern Ireland. A slice of sunshine that will be moving through here. Northern scotland sings in bright weather and further south, the midlands, wales and south west of england some bright and sunny spells, once any early fog has cleared. Generally speaking, cloudy with the odd spot of light rain. Temperatures are struggling a little, particularly in northern scotland, seven or 8 degrees, further south 13, 14 or 15. Through this evening and tonight, things change, the weather stepped up a gear. We see cloud and heavier rain moving across Northern Ireland into a good part of scotland, north west england as well. Further south and east it stays dry, some clear spells, lowest temperatures across eastern areas and across the far north, but milder out west. 10 degrees at the belfast, for example, because here we will have more cloud, outbreaks of rain courtesy of this string of frontal systems which will be moving towards the western side of the British Isles drink to my. This is going to make for quite a soggy my. This is going to make for quite a soggy day actually. Some of that rain itjust grazing across as cornwall, west wales and up into north west england for top further south and east, some brightness around. It is certainly so dry, but more in the way of cloud here in the afternoon. Quite a blustery day, that when coming from the south dragging some older air in our direction, so a different feel to the weather tomorrow with temperatures between 12 and 15 degrees. As we look ahead to tuesday, it stays unsettled. Low pressure very much in charge by this stage, notice the white lines and squatting together, all the isobars, that shows it is going to be pretty windy on tuesday at. Rain mostly for Northern Ireland and the north west of scotland, dry out further south and east of the time being. They windy day on tuesday of anything and other one, temperatures in the south up other one, temperatures in the south up to 17 other one, temperatures in the south up to1718 other one, temperatures in the south up to 17 18 degrees and aberdeen, stornoway, 11 or 12 degrees. A bit milder than it is at the moment and a quick look ahead to the rest of the week, but wednesday will bring some rain, quite widely across the uk, another windy day, tenderness betrayer and a little bit cooler by the end of the week. That is all it from me for this morning. Ben, the end of the week. That is all it from me forthis morning. Ben, do the end of the week. That is all it from me for this morning. Ben, do i need to get the winter duvet out . From me for this morning. Ben, do i need to get the winter duvet ounm is very much a decision up to you, but i think the next few days, a little bit milder, so you might want the thin debate for the start of this week, but then get the fatter one out at the end. Good tip, thank you very much. Training dogs to carry out searches is common enough sniffing for drugs or explosives. But looking for people in the outdoors presents particular challenges. The dartmoor search and rescue team hasjust recruited its first search dogs for years. Weve been along to see how they did it. So, my name is catherine davis. I am from the north dartmoor search and rescue team and this is trainee search dog jack. Jack had been rescued at the age of about eight months by the north devon animal ambulance from a totally unsuitable home and so i think there is something quite lovely about a rescue dog becoming a rescuer, so hopefully at some point next year we will be able to make that come true. She is just our sweet family dog and it became clear to us that she had the necessary drive and focus to enjoy doing it. She loves playing with the ball and we are always out on the moors with her, so itjust became something that we so itjust became something that we knew we would want to do together. Our dogs are notjust working dogs, they are our pets as well, so they live in our houses, they sleep by the fire, he likes to sleep on the bed. The bodies tend to wear green or dark colours, because we do not want to give the dogs any visual clues as to where we are. Sometimes we can be out here for several hours, which is why we have a bag full of sandwiches, flasks of coffee, a book, all sorts of stuff. And we just sit down, admire the view. Their sense of smell is about 40 times stronger than ours, so it can take a foot team probably half an hour to such an area that a dog can search in less than five minutes, because they use that sense of smell rather than their eyes. To give you an example of how the scent works, you can see that convenient bonfire over that. If you imagine that was a person lying injured, the wind would be taking skin rafts, essentially, off their body and it would be drifting and it would not be in a dissimilar pattern to where the smoke is drifting there. And you can see how far it pushes out and how it gets wider and wider. What we are aiming to do is get the dog into that scent. What they are doing when they are training is that they are just thinking that somewhere out on the hill is someone with a toy who wants to play with them. Chris, this is pete, in position, over. It is a reward. We have a ball. It is a huge commitment. I mean, generally speaking, it takes between two to three years to get a dog from what we call puppy school through to grading, which is the final stage of assessment. Well done, well done good boy go on. Ive just been ivejust been dead ive just been dead to do this, so im going to do it micro she sings strictly theme tune dared to do this. With so much uncertainty this year, it must have been a huge relief to fans of strictly come dancing that things seemed relatively normal when it returned to our screens last night. But there was one change, of course, the introduction of strictlys first ever same sex pairing. Lets take a look at some of the highlights. She knows, she knows, she knows oh yeah, she knows no matter how far apart we are she knows im always right there beside her two hearts, believing injust one mind beating together till the end of time you know we are two hearts believing injust one mind together forever till the end of time. It feels like a really long time and i cannot be happier that it is back. I think for a long time we wondered if it was actually going to be able to happen this year, so obviously a tremendous amount of work has gone on behind the scenes to make it happen. It felt like such a welcome return, just something to see us through the winter, i think. return, just something to see us through the winter, i think. I do not know if you know the answer to this, but hairand not know if you know the answer to this, but hair and make up, not know if you know the answer to this, but hairand make up, i presume they were getting that done professionally like always, because they look fantastic . Yes, the way they look fantastic . Yes, the way they have done it is they have allocated different make up and hair artists to different couples, so the make up artists and her people are pa rt make up artists and her people are part of that bubble that they have formed, so they are working really ha rd to formed, so they are working really hard to adhere to all the guidelines and have made it work with more hair and have made it work with more hair and make up people and fewer people to manage. With the social distancing and the way the audience we re distancing and the way the audience were configured, did it make a difference to you is if you are watching it . No, not at all, im simple for that strictly is back. I think we will get used to it really quickly. Super grateful that it is back. I dont think it will make a difference at all, the hard work has already been done with the quarantining, the time that the professional dancers spent together ina professional dancers spent together in a hotel. I think once they start dancing next week, it will feel like it always has. How important do you think shows that like strictly are at the moment, after people have been knocked down, restrictions come into place, some more heart than in other cities people have been in lockdown, do you think it is vital for escape at the moment . Completely, it looks like we are going into a difficult winter and tv does not solve anything, but it does give as a couple of hours of that we ca nt give as a couple of hours of that we cant escape them and i think a lot of people really need that right now and that includes myself. Weekend escapism. Whatevers going on in your life, the strictly welders a lwa ys your life, the strictly welders always joyful and uplifting and we all need that. We have at nicola adams this year with another woman, how important is that this yet for this series . That has been a lot of talk about it and people talking about whether it is right or wrong. Of course it is not wrong. I think it isa of course it is not wrong.
