But if there is this is thanks in part to its nvme drawing on a wealth of home video going to be measures here in greater ssd and the velocity manchester, there has to either architecture which joins up footage to document the life robert all of the consoles be the necessary Financial Support new hardware to some smart software. Was missing while behind bars, forfamilies there are still load times, be the necessary Financial Support for families and businesses and that but they are much shorter. The profoundly affecting film has not been forthcoming from investigates the toll that when we compare it to government. Yesterday, my the machine it replaces, imprisonment has taken upon a mother understanding is that local leaders you can see the and her children outside here didnt even receive a call from differences appear. Of those prison walls. Number ten downing st was not the situation is urgent, Everybody Needs when you are playing theres a real poetry to get around the table. Extra no mans sky, it takes about a minute and a half measures are not going to work if to the monogram film making to load but on the series x, people cannot afford to go into its 20 seconds, much faster with superbly edited archives intercut and we see some stability with contemporary footage creating a isolation and the government has to improvements in the visuals time shifting montage that ebbs come up with a solution right now as well. Quick resume. Because this is desperately urgent. And flows in lyrical and musicalfashion. Our hospitals are already filling the subject matter may be tough but this superb documentary is up. Can i go through something with on current generation machines, as uplifting as it is eye opening. You . We if you want to play different up. Can i go through something with you . We know up. Can i go through something with you . We know that an agreement was game to the you have already played, loading up the next reached in lancashire. That, too, was a place where there was a title can take several minutes. When you get him home, theyre going now its just seconds. Discussion about the funding that on series x, quick resume to pay, theyre going to pay, could be made available to that drastically reduces the time it area. For it to be able to cope, to takes to switch between titles theyre going to pay. Thats it for this week, and games and you can pick up thank you for watching some degree with going to tear right where you left them. The film review, stay safe, and ill see you next week. Three. An agreement was made and if the lady has to pay for company, there was a sum of money, an additional sum of money, that the government had put in to lancashire to try and help. Do you have a so far i have tested this to be able to resume five games figure, a number, that you could say at any one time, but that could change with the finished to the government, give us this sum machine. Lots has been made about of money and we can agree to go into tier three . Well, that is the whole point of the negotiation. And it has backwards compatibility on this got to be linked to exactly what it is of the different businesses that might have to close. We had in your generation of consoles, Previous Report in some tear three and there is a very large backwards compatible catalogue for the series x. It has also been suggested next areas, gyms are closing and in others they are not. We would need gen games could cost as much as £70 a pop and the launch to negotiate around exactly what it is that needs to close and exactly line up of titles isnt exactly stellar. So a catalogue of older, what funding is needed in that well regarded games helps bolster the proposition. Context but it is very, very the series x enjoys quite a lot of backwards compatibility, important that this is done a lot, but not all xbox games. Urgently. I cant stress enough how there are games from the xbox 360, xbox one desperately dangerous the situation and the original machine. Is becoming for us and as i say, the the series x takes a commanding best way of all, because this is presence, towering next going to happen all over the to the tv, it looks like the monolith from 2001 country, the rate is rising a space odyssey, but, like most everywhere, would be the national of us during lockdown, it seems to have Circuit Breaker. It turns out powered on the pounds. It is a big bit of kit. Government scientists recommended this nearly a month ago. We could we are now in the final stretch of next narration console reset the whole situation in this reveals. Country with a two week Circuit Breaker, half term is coming, as we that is the short have just been discussing, children will be out of school anyway and i really think that the government needs to take swift, hard and fast action as the chief scientist. Take of click. Would it not help, kate green, the scenario, if you, and i know it is not just you, there scenario, if you, and i know it is notjust you, there is a number of and you can find the team leaders in the northwest who are on youtube, facebook and instagram bbcclick. Involved in the magister area in thank you for watching, and well see you soon. 00 29 37,246 4294966103 13 29,430 bye bye particular, would it not be helpful if you did have manchester if you did not have a calculation . The negotiations are urgent and we know that literally day by day there are more cases and they will be more people hospitalised. That we know. Would it not be helpful if you had a numberand would it not be helpful if you had a number and then you could say give us that and we agree . And it could be done tomorrow. These negotiations are taking place but let me point out. I thought you said there were no negotiations. They need to take place. There have been discussions. 2a hours was wasted by the government yesterday. These negotiations and discussions need to ta ke negotiations and discussions need to take place between local Authority Leaders and the government but i have to say to you, charlie, there are mps from all parties in Greater Manchester who are extremely concerned that what is being brought forward by the government so far is not sufficient. Conservative mps as much as labour mps say if you want to introduce these extra restrictions, you would have to add more to the Financial Support package and that is what needs to be discussed and rushed out in a thrashed out immediately because the situation is so desperate. Kate green, thank you very much for your time this morning. Headlines shortly. Hello, this is breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Good morning, heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. Lancashire has become the second place in england to move into the highest coronavirus alert level, tier 3. Pubs and bars have closed while people are banned from socialising indoors and in most outdoor venues. London, essex and york are among the areas to be reclassified as high risk, or tier 2, meaning they can no longer mix inside with those from other households. And Greater Manchester remains tier 2, for now, as local leaders continue to resist government moves to impose tougher restrictions. Pu bs, restau ra nts a nd cafes in Northern Ireland have closed as part of stricter covid 19 restrictions. They will only be allowed to serve takeaways for the next four weeks. Hair and beauty salons have also shut while schools will close for a fortnight from monday. Elsewhere, a ban on people travelling to wales from coronavirus hotspots in other parts of the uk has come into effect. Residents in the chinese city of yiwu are being offered a Coronavirus Vaccine after it was approved french president Emmanuel Macron has described the murder of a teacher on the outskirts of paris yesterday as an islamist terror attack. The man was killed outside the school where earlier this month he had shown his pupils cartoons of the prophet mohammed during a discussion about freedom of expression. His attacker was shot dead by police a short time later. Picking up and using a mobile phone while driving will become illegal under new legislation, as ministers try to banish a loophole which has allowed some people to avoid prosecution. The department for transport wants to update the law, which was imposed before the advent of smartphones. The new legislation would make it illegal to use a device notjust for making calls or sending texts but also things like scrolling through a music app. Drivers will still be able to use hands free phones under the plan. Residents in the chinese city of yiwu are being offered a Coronavirus Vaccine after it was approved for emergency use by the authorities in beijing. Around 3,000 medical workers have already been given the jab. Earlier we spoke to our china correspondent, robin brant, who is in yihu, and he explained that the vaccine is now available to local people who can afford it. This is the first time in this particular city in china where this vaccine has been made available to anybody who rocks up, has the money and wants to get it. It was not that long ago since there were queues to be tested for covid 19 in places like this. Now there are cues to line up for a vaccine. We got here at 6 a5am. Before the gate was actually open, there were taxis pulling up, families, we saw some breaking out into a bit of a sprint to get to the line, to get their number, to get in the queue. This is the first time in this particular city in china where this vaccine has been made available to anybody who rocks up, has the money and wants to get it. Under some emergency powers, frontline workers have had it, there are reports that half a million chinese have received a version of a vaccine in recent weeks. But here today in zhejiang, any member of the public can get it. It is saturday, lots of sport today. The focus is very much on, well, i was going to say rugby. Yes, weve got it all league and union. But i notice behind you there, everton unlivable. You dont know where to look. Such a huge day of sport, which i guess on days like this makes it even more galling there are no fans to witness the special occasion. You couldnt have scripted a more dramatic return for the premier league and scottish premiership, after the international matches. Two of the worlds most famous derbies in glasgow, and liverpool, taking place at lunchtime. At goodison park, everton and liverpool go head to head in arguably the biggest Merseyside Derby in decades, with champions liverpool hoping to leapfrog everton, who are top of the table with four wins out of four under carlo ancelotti. Everyone knows how important is the derby, and how important is the, is this game for this period. It is a really important period for us. And we wa nt really important period for us. And we want to keep this period good for the future. In glasgow, its the First Old Firm derby since lockdown, as celtic and rangers face each other as the top two in the scottish premiership. Celtic are champions and going for a 10th successive title, but its rangers who start the day top of the table, a point clear of their great rivals. Its the showpiece day in rugby league as Salford Red Devils take on leeds rhinos in the challenge cup final, at wembley this afternoon. For salford, its the first time theyve reached the final since 1969. For one of their star players kevin brown, its his fourth final, with four different clubs. Having lost his previous three, hes desperate to change that record. One of my biggest regrets in life is not winning the trophy. You know, i cant complain, but i still go to bed at light with a desire and hunger at 36, that im desperate to wind. So, you know, if we can go out there and when that trophy i dont think there would be a proud person in the world than me that night. Now, prince harry, who is patron of the Rugby Football League, has sent a message of good luck to both teams ahead of the game, and also to former leeds star rob burrow, who wont be at the match in person but will be honoured for all hes done for raising awareness about his Motor Neurone Disease. The duke of sussex thanks rob for this, saying rob and his family are an inspiration. And you can see this for yourself with another chance to see the documentary produced by bbc breakfast and bbc sport, rob burrow my year with mnd. Thats at 1 15pm here on bbc one, and is followed by all the build up to the challenge cup final at 1 a5pm. Kick offs at 3 00pm. No fans for the First Time Ever at a challenge cup final, but there were some let in to witness a historic night in rugby union for bristol bears, who won their first ever european trophy by beating toulon, in the challenge cup. Toulon are one of the most successful clubs in european rugby, but they were beaten 32 19 by bristol, who were only promoted back to the top tier of english rugby two years ago. Max malins got the crucial second half score in the south of france, and 1,000 fans were allowed into to see the celebrations. Tonight its the turn of exeter chiefs, who play in their first european final against racing 92 for the biggest prize in club rugby. Before this season exeter had never been passed the quarterfinals in the champions cup, but now theyre favourites to complete a remarkable rise, having been promoted to the premiership ten years ago. Hopefully if we can fast forward six months and weve got full stadiums here, if you can walk through the lobby downstairs and there is a cup there in the cabinet, you know, the whole thing of value can talk about yourselves, how you coached the game, how we can cell it to people, all these people know that these things elevate Everything Else you can do moving forward. Anthonyjoshua will defend his world heavyweight title against bulgarias kubrat pulyev in london on december 12. The fight was originally planned forjune this year, but it was postponed due to the pandemic. Going back even further, joshua was initially due to take on pulyev back in 2017 in cardiff thats when these pictures were filmed. But the bulgarian withdrew after he injuring his shoulder while sparring. Decembers fight should be joshuas last before an all british unification match against tyson fury next year. One positive outcome of the lockdown and covid 19 restrictions has been the rise in the number of people exploring the countryside and trying open air swimming, whether in lakes or rivers or outside pools. The new sport of Cross Country swimming combines this with a good old hike, and whats more you can take all your stuff with you, even in the water. Ive been to the Lake District to take part in an organised Cross Country swim. I wandered lonely as a cloud, the refractions of the poet William Wordsworth inspired by the stunning colours of the Lake District. And i wonder what he would have made of the amphibious adventure seekers now running the mountainside here. There is the sport that crosses hiking with swimming. I cant walk much further, and yet weve got to go to that mountain over there. There is a la ke that mountain over there. There is a lake in the way. So theres only one thing for it. Weve got to swim through it the whole point of it, really, is you start out point a, and you look at the map and there is water, and instead of Walking Around the water, how do we incorporate it into the journey . The water, how do we incorporate it into thejourney . Come the water, how do we incorporate it into the journey . Come on, the water, how do we incorporate it into thejourney . Come on, mike. This will get you fitter. Getting used to being like the daughters with the stuff on my back. How did it all started, the sport . We started in london, running from north london to south london, with all the pools. Hampstead ponds, the serpentine. Then we came to places like this with the Lake District, just trying to go from a to be, taking all your stuff with you. And thatis taking all your stuff with you. And that is the key to linking the land of water. It is causing local heads to turners hikers arrive and pack up to turners hikers arrive and pack up their stuff on inflatable rafts. First stage, blow it up, second stage, get all your stuff in the bag like jill stage, get all your stuff in the bag likejill has done, and then you strap them on. It took less time for the group to get thereafter ready thanit the group to get thereafter ready than it did for me to wind my fight with the wetsuit. The hardier adventures didnt bother, as we all took a deep breath and took to chilly but Crystal Clear waters of roma lake. My gosh, it isjust life changing for me. It clears your mind, it is really good for my Mental Health. I actually thought that was amazing i didnt even feel it. And it gave me a lot of support. So you used it as a bit of a dinghy . Yeah i love being self supported and outer mountains all day. Yeah i love being self supported and outer mountains all daym means you have more freedom, because quite often when you go for a swim youve got to swim around and then youve got to swim around and then youve got to come back stop because, unlike a triathlon, it is not competitive, you dont have to worry about being left behind or just pausing to admire the stunning scenery. And i could see why the open water swimming has been on the increase and lockdown. We were stuck inside fellow long, senior people taking to the water, senior people swimming outdoors, it is a real and often rush. I used to do triathlons but i wanted to slow down. The landscape is not to be rushed through. It is the journey to be enjoyed, enjoyed, not endure it. As exciting as it seems, you should never venture alone into lake so rivers like this. Coldwater shop can be dangerous, so it is best at first to ta ke be dangerous, so it is best at first to take part in organised activities with experts who know what they are doing, and if you do, you will soon warm up on the next tie, would surprises around every corner. Some of the journeys last for days, would night stopovers. But i have to get back to the studio, leaving my fellow adventurers to feel inspired again by wordsworth. Beside a lake, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. I could have stayed there forever. I can confirm, though, that all my stuff stayed dry on my little raft, asi stuff stayed dry on my little raft, as i towed it behind me. A beautiful place. Absolutely stunning. It is very true that thing, ive done triathlons, it is great being a family competition, but you dont stop. Lots of times in life, i suppose, to appreciate, and taken the surroundings, do you . Especially if you are racing a triathlon. But there it was all aboutjust letting it all soak in, just literally. But the wetsuit, yeah, took a while to get on. The others were much braver than me. I wanted to spend time in the water rather than get out straightaway. I dont blame you at all. I think if you are going to do something and you out, it is cold. But why are they such a faff to put on mrmike but why are they such a faff to put on mr mike wetsuit . But why are they such a faff to put on mrmike wetsuit . but why are they such a faff to put on mr mike wetsuit . I have not put on mr mike wetsuit . I have not put on one for years. I think i only put on one for years. I think i only put on one for years. I think i only put on one once. Youve got one, havent you . I do. Easy to put on . When you do it initially it is always a little bit embarrassing. Could i just, i wasjust little bit embarrassing. Could i just, i was just looking through the birthdays a moment ago, martina navratilova, 6a on sunday. Her birthday is on sunday. Has wimbledon been confirmed to go ahead next year . I think they have said crowds on no crowds, were going to a competition. Good. Which is great, isnt it . Brilliant to hear. But of course nobody really knows weather crowds will be back by then or not. Thank you, mike. 7 aaam. Mike was talking about the glory of being outdoors at the moment, those autumn colours. We are talking about it a bit at the moment, but it is a good time, isnt it . A good time of the year to look around you . Yeah, absolutely, charlie, if you get some dry weather. A beautiful time to be out and about, with the autumn colours. Some of us might even get to see some sunshine today. Some of us, not all. An encouraging start here from a weather watcher in hampshire, contrast this to the scene close to bradford, with grey skies and working conditions. I think through the weekends, while it will be mostly dry, not completely dry, it will also often be quite cloudy. That cloud is producing the odd spot of rain in places as well. You can see that from our earlier radar picture. Indeed, some showers creeping across parts of devon and cornwall at the moment. We will continue to see some showers here through the day. Equally this is a place where the cloud will tend to break up and give spells of sunshine. You can see that cloud is a bit broken at times across england and wales. Temperatures nine degrees in aberdeen. Maybe 13 in plymouth and in london. Further south a better chance of some clear spells. Damages widely between five and eight degrees. If you have clear skies for any length of time it could get a bit colder than that. Low pressure to the south west which will feature as we had deeper into the coming week at High Pressure just about in charge for the second half of the weekend so it will be largely dry up one week frontal system thickening the cloud across parts of england, scotland, Northern England. Some brighter spells and spells of sunshine. The winds will be light, that is where things are moving around or changing quickly at the moment was not a chilly day across northern scotland tomorrow, six degrees there. A big we head into the coming week because we see low pressure developing, moving in from the west with frontal bring our bring so heavy rain across parts of Northern Ireland and scotland. Largely dry at this stage across england and wales but rather cloudy, quite a windy day on monday. Tickly for western coasts. With the wind coming up from the south, it will feel a little bit milder with temperatures between 12 and 15 degrees. It will stay milder between wednesday and tuesday but also staying more unsettled with wind and rain at times. For the time being, despite much of the country having a lot of cloud this weekend it should be dry for many of us. Time now for newswatch. Hello and welcome to newswatch, with me, samira ahmed. Coming up covid restrictions too tight or not tough enough . With growing divisions nationwide, how balanced is bbc News Coverage . And the dilemma of quoting anonymous government sources. Are reporters doing number 10s dirty work . Since lockdown started in march, there have been voices saying the limits government is imposing on our behaviour are an overreaction, an infringement of our liberty and ruinous to our mental well being. Those voices became louder than ever this week and among them is Epidemiologist Dr sunetra gupta, from Oxford University who appeared in a discussion on monday on the news channel. We should try and shield the vulnerable, because we know now, what we do know is that the virus specifically has causes deaths in a segment of the population. We should put all our resources that we have at our disposal towards shielding them or allowing them to make the choice to shield themselves, while permitting the general population to conduct their lives as normal. As was the case when the professor appeared on question time a few weeks ago, her views proved controversial with the audience. This is what caroline wrote. But elaine wants to see more of that viewpoint. Well, we hope to explore the debate and other issues around the reporting of covid 19 with the bbcs Health Editor hugh pym in a week or two. On monday evening we had the now familiar sight of the Prime Minister at a lectern in downing street spelling out the latest measures designed to halt the spread of coronavirus. We are today simplifying, standardising and, in some places, toughening local rules in england by introducing three levels of covid alert. That News Conference was broadcast live on bbc one, which involved some alterations to the evenings television schedule. The one show, which had been going out in that slot, moved to bbc two, and the programme that was meant to be shown at that time on bbc two, a documentary from the bbc Breakfast Team on the Rugby League Player rob burrow, who has Motor Neurone Disease, was postponed. Colin wright was unhappy with the change, writing. But caroline had a different view, wondering. That programme about rob burrow went out instead the following night and watching it proved a powerful and moving experience for many viewers. As robs condition has deteriorated he has had to lean on lindsay more than ever. Rob is going to go to a stage where he is probably not going to be able to walk or talk. You know, just to have his independence taken away from him. Steve fox posted this message the following day. Back to covid 19. And viewers were divided again on tuesday of the response by labour leader sir keir starmer to borisjohnsons statement the previous day. This time it was shown live on the news channel. The government has not got a credible plan to slow infections. It has lost control of the virus. And it is no longer following scientific advice. That elicited this reaction from alison simpson. Again, though, there was a different perspective, with phil green e mailing this on wednesday. So what was the governments response to sir Keir Starmers response to the Prime Ministers announcement . Well, not favourable. Instead, the bbcs Political EditorLaura Kuenssberg tweeted that a senior government source had called the Opposition Leader a shameless opportunist playing political games in the middle of a global pandemic. Legaljournals from other broadcasters and newspapers also reported the same anonymous quotation. The tweet aroused the ire of many people, including Andrew Pickering responded. And sp asked. Well, we put that question to bbc news and they told us. The statement went on. We mentioned last week newsnight moved to a new studio and the question it raised for some viewers of whether the programme would be returning to its previous starting time of 10 30, now it was no longer sharing a studio with the news at ten. Well, weve now had a response to the question from bbc news, which reads so thats a case of watch this space. But in the meantime we received another perspective from mark. However, sabina reiterated the original point. On the campaign trail for next months us president ial election, it was again President Trump whos been getting most media attention. Here he is at a rally in sanford in florida on monday night. Ill walk in there and kiss everyone in that audience. Ill kiss the guys and the beautiful women and the everybody. Illjust give you a big fat kiss. Village peoples ymca plays. Later in the week, accusations were again raised about the family of Donald Trumps opponent, joe biden, in regards to ukraine and alleged wrongdoing by his son, hunter. Although the story was covered elsewhere on the bbc, that did not feature on thursday nights news at ten, which aroused the ire of annabel wood. She e mailed. Finally, the bbc news website has been reporting on a case being heard at Salisbury Crown Court where a policeman, timothy brehmer, is accused of murdering claire perry after shed revealed that ten year affair in a text to his wife. Mr brehmer admits manslaughter, but denies murder. Wednesdays article on the case initially had the headline woman strangled by pc lover plotted his downfall, with a photograph of the victim. And that offended a number of those who read it. For abigail. Susie thought the same. And moll had this to say. We put those points to bbc news and a spokesperson gave us this statement. Thank you for all your comments this week. If you want to share your opinions about what you see or hear on bbc news, including its social media and online output, e mail newswatch. Or you can find us on twitter. You can call us. We will be back to hear your thoughts on bbc News Coverage again next week. Goodbye. Good morning welcome to breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Our headlines today millions of people across the uk are now subject to tougher coronavirus restrictions after new measures came in overnight. People in lancashire are waking up under tighter lockdown restrictions as their area becomes the second to move to the highest alert level four coronavirus. Shock in france as a teacher is killed in a suspected terror attack. Tougher rules for motorists now drivers are to be banned from picking up and using their mobile phones. On a bumper day of sport, after lunchtime derbies in glasgow and liverpool, there are two rugby finals and salford are hoping to make the most of their first trip to wembley in 51 years in rugby leagues challenge cup against leeds. Good morning. Its going to be a pretty quiet weekend weather wise. It will often be dry, but often rather cloudy. Feeling quite cool, as well. All the details coming up here on breakfast. Its saturday, 17th october. Our top story more than half of the uk is now under tougher coronavirus restrictions after new rules came into effect overnight. Lancashire is now in tier 3, the very high alert level, while a four week Circuit Breaker has begun in Northern Ireland. London and essex are among eight parts of england to be banned from mixing indoors with other households. John mcmanus reports. The politicians have told us the entire country is engaged in the fight against covid 19. But depending where you are this weekend, the view from the barricades will look very different. This is one of lancasters oldest pubs. And like many others in lancashire that dont also serve food, its now closed. The county at the highest tier, very high alert, today. That means as well as pubs closing, theres a ban on households mixing indoors, in private gardens and most outdoor venues. Local leaders have agreed to a support package from whitehall, but some of those at the sharp end are still worried. There will be more restrictions for lancashire on monday, when casinos, bingo halls, bookmakers, betting shops and soft play areas will also close. But gyms can stay open. That has caused some upset in the liverpool city region, which is also in the very high risk alert status but where gyms have been closed. Meanwhile, leaders in Greater Manchester have been largely resisting government attempts to place the region in the highest risk status. Whitehall says it may simply impose tougher restrictions, but regional leaders are holding out for greater Financial Support. I stood by all day waiting for a meeting which never took place, i understand now it will take place on monday. And we need reassurances that this tier 3 will be time limited and will be effective. Borisjohnson doesnt want to impose another full lockdown. But here in wales, thats exactly whats now being considered. A decision will be made on monday. The first minister says what he calls a circuit break of two weeks could slow down the virus, and from last night, anybody from virus hotspots in other parts of the uk are banned from entering wales. Yesterday evening in belfast, there was an early closing time, as a 6 00pm deadline for bars, cafes a nd restau ra nts to shut kicked in. The half term holiday has been extended to a two week break, to run from monday to the 30th of october, and hair and beauty salons have also shut, and gyms face additional measures for the next four weeks too. Im going to be at home, and whos going to put food on the table for my three children . You know, im going to be left sitting at home with absolutely no money, financially in dire straits. London, york and essex have now joined others in the tier 2 high alert category. It means that socialising indoors is now banned, unless its with your own support bubble, though people can meet outside provided they adhere to social distancing and follow the rule of six. John mcmanus, bbc news. 1. 5 Million People in lancashire are now under the highest level of restrictions in england. Our reporter luxmy gopal is in blackpool. Luxmy, how are people there reacting to the new rules . Good morning from blackpool. When you think blackpool you might think eliminations and nightlife, but like the rest of lancashire, blackpool this morning has entered tier 3, the highest level of restrictions under the new system, which means that pubs and bars must stay closed. Just across the road from here there is a yates pub, that turned a light on within the last half hour because it serves food. Right next door is an irish bar but they have to stay shut. As you can imagine, despite it not being peak season, it will have a massive impact on business here because overall entertainment and tourism worth £1. 5 billion to the blackpool economy. The labour leader of the council said this is not what you want to but she had no choice but to accept tier 3 restrictions. Other leaders in lancashire have had similaror other leaders in lancashire have had similar or stronger words, they said they felt bullied into accepting these measures. The conservative leader of Lancashire County council says they have worked with the government to find a good deal for the area. The north west is one of the area. The north west is one of the places with the highest, fastest rising rates of coronavirus. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. President macron has described the murder of a teacher on the outskirts of paris yesterday as an islamist terror attack. The man was killed outside the school where, earlier this month, he had shown his pupils cartoons of the prophet mohammed during a discussion about freedom of expression. You may find some of the details in this report by our paris correspondent Lucy Williamson upsetting. The horror of this attack spread slowly through the quiet streets of conflans last night. The story of a history teacher whose lesson on freedom of expression ended with a playground full of police. The suspect, thought to have been an 18 year old chechen man, decapitated his victim in a nearby street and posted an image on social media before being shot dead by police. Police sources have confirmed to us that the motive may have been a lesson given by the victim to pupils at his school here. It was reportedly a lesson on freedom of speech, and he showed them cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, the same cartoons that we think were reprinted by the satirical magazine charlie hebdo. Parents say the lesson had caused some concern and that complaints on social media had sparked a debate. Translation he asked Muslim Students to raise their hands and to leave the classroom. My son said he didnt do it to discriminate or offend, but explained that he was going to show cartoons of mohammed and didnt want to shock them. A girl stayed behind and chose not to leave the room. That is where it started. President macron, arriving from a government crisis meeting, said the attacker would not succeed in dividing the nation. I want to tell all the teachers of france tonight that we are with them, that the entire nation will be there, at their side, today and tomorrow, to protect them, to defend them. To allow them to do theirjob, which is the most beautiful there is, to make free citizens. The Education Minister tweeted that unity and determination were the only responses to what he called a despicable assassination. Frances National Assembly stood in silence to honour the victim yesterday, a man who, just before the attack, had wished his pupils a happy half term, with a joke. One parent said his daughter was devastated, asking, how can i explain to her the unspeakable . Lucy williamson, bbc news, conflans sainte honorine. The law on using a mobile phone while driving is being tightened up to banish a loophole which has allowed some motorists to avoid prosecution. Ministers want to update the legislation, which was imposed before the advent of smart phones so that it bans any driverfrom picking up and using their device while at the wheel. Our transport correspondent tom burridge reports. It is dangerous, but a lot of drivers do it. In fact, new Research Found that on 765 journeys, phones were used 662 times. Only 38 of those were on hands free. But the law right now means that only phoning or texting at the wheel is illegal. Someone taking a photo or browsing the internet can avoid a fine. Next year, that will change. It will mean any driver who touches their phone could face a £200 fine and six points on their license. However, ministers have decided not to make it illegal to use your phone at the wheel if it is on hands free. Tom burridge, bbc news. Heres ben with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning. It is the kind of weekend where the weather wont ruin too many plans. Bright skies to start of the day in the sussex, but many more of us waking up to scenes like this in staffordshire. A lot of cloud run through this weekend, but it will be mostly dry with some spells of sunshine. Where the cloud is at its thickest it is producing a bit of rain or drizzle. Showers continue in the south west of them through the day, but some sunny spells here. Thicker cloud and patchy rain in the far north of scotland. With the northerly wind it will feel rather chilly here with temperatures just 9 degrees in aberdeen. Highs of 12 or 13 further south. Through this evening and overnight we continue to see a lot of cloud filtering down from the north. That producing some showers and spots of drizzle at times. Any clear spells that last for any length of time could allow temperatures to fall into low single figures. Many spots will hold up between five and 8 degrees. Tomorrow, more the same. A lot of cloud around. Some spots of rain here or there. Where the cloud brea ks we here or there. Where the cloud breaks we will see some sunshine. Temperatures between eight and 13 degrees. Really struggling as far as temperatures go in the far north of scotland. In shetland we might only see 6 degrees. Changes on the way as we head into the coming week with things turning much more unsettled with outbreaks of rain at times. It will often be quite windy, as well. It does turn a bit milder with temperatures in the south getting up to 70 degrees for a time. We stick with the unsettled theme as we head towards the end of the week. As far as the weekend goes it is looking often drive, but will stay quite cloudy for most of us. There are now more patients with coronavirus in hospital in the north west of england than in any other region. Doctors at the Royal Liverpool hospital fear they will soon be overwhelmed if the infection rate doesnt begin to fall. Our correspondent Gill Dummigan was given special access to the wards and sent this report. For the staff here at has been seven long months. Exhausting, upsetting, potentially life threatening, and it is about to get worse. Having to do all this again, it isjust is about to get worse. Having to do all this again, it is just really tiring and really upsetting. We are overwhelmed and it is not winter, its not even winter yet and look at us. These beds are restricted to the elderly. The average age up and patient areas just under 60. Elderly. The average age up and patient areasjust under 60. We have got patients in their mid 30s up to their mid 70s, so it is a serious disease that can affect you whatever age you are. This time last month this trust was looking afterjust 33 patients with covid 19. Today, that figure stands at more than 300. It is heading up to the peak of the last wave and it is only mid october. Last wave and it is only midoctober. Ijust last wave and it is only midoctober. I just wonder how much more we can take. This isnt sustainable. No. This is not sustainable. No. This is not sustainable. No. This is not sustainable. No. Patient number here that are doubling every ten days and if that does not change within weeks there will be no more beds. The hospital becomes full, the Emergency Department becomes full, ambulances sitting outside the Emergency Department because they cant off load patients into the Emergency Department, and that then means that ambulances arent available in the community to respond to emergencies. Nonurgent surgeries are already being cancelled. Staff moved around. But even that may not be enough. We are still really stretched. At the moment werejust are still really stretched. At the moment were just about cope and benefit Missions Continue at their current rates, then we will have to ta ke current rates, then we will have to take further action and that might include stopping cancer and urgent surgery, as well. Really, you might have to do absolutely. Every day the staff here work miracles. have to do absolutely. Every day the staff here work miracles. I couldnt wish to be better looked after. Theyre absolutely fabulous people. Michael is recovering after three daysin michael is recovering after three days in intensive care. It is not fun. It is not fun at all. This is serious my thoughts on sunday that i was going to see my maker. Three weeks ago michael was a fit man who could walk for miles. He says people who think it wont affect them are taking a potentially deadly gamble. They just need to taking a potentially deadly gamble. Theyjust need to have a, i dont know, step back and say, yes, some of yourok, but know, step back and say, yes, some of your ok, but by god, if you get a ten year one the unlucky ones, then you are talking death. Youre talking death. Back in i see you, diana is with the patient who can no longer be treated. Their family has come here for the final hours. This is hard. This is really, really hard. This family havent been able to see their dad the whole time he has been in hospital and we have had to call them in now because he is about to pass away and that is horrendous for everybody involved. The message is to follow the guidance and save yourself and others from this misery. People need to realise that when they think i am just bending the rules are breaking the rules a little bit, they need to realise that every time they do that they are putting everybody else at risk. Listening to michael there, saying just three days before he was going to see his mate. It is wonderful that some of those patients were willing to talk to the cameras. They were really blunt. The front line messages of the reality of what is happening within hospitals. Of what is happening within hospitals. Lets speak now to professor yvonne doyle, who is the medical director at Public Health england. Thank you so much for talking to us this morning. Just listening to that film, it almost takes you back to the beginning when we were having so many stories about people who were really struggling, families really struggling. Ijust wonderfrom really struggling, families really struggling. Ijust wonder from your point of view where you think the message now is, where you think we are as a nation when it comes to our attitude towards this virus and the restrictions that have been imposed . Good morning. The reason that these restrictions have been offered to the population, they say because it is mainly a cooperation with people to remember that this virus hasnt gone away. The reason are trying to slow the transmission and break the chain of transmission as there are three very important things. The first to to allow children to remain in education, to give them a future. If they lose education some of them may never get that back. The second reason is the key people at work so people have a future there as well, they have a chance of a future. The third is to protect the vulnerable, as she had been showing with the nhs patients. This virus is very dangerous for people on the emissions are rising, particularly in certain parts of the country. These are three really important aims in terms of trying to break transmission, but they are very difficult decisions because we are asking people to cooperate and it does limit certain things, the com plete does limit certain things, the complete freedom that people may wa nt to complete freedom that people may want to have. The message to people is pleased to cooperate. The important thing at the core of this is that households do not mix, because that is a really significant place of transmission, mixing between households. There are other restrictions, as you know. Keeping that space is very important. Then protecting, keeping hands clean, paying attention to hygiene and wearing a face mask to protect others. One of the frustrations coming through is that the rules have been changing, the guidance about the different tiers, what is the Science Behind this . What changes with these different policies being introduced . Changes with these different policies being introduced . The three levels being brought in now are medium, high, and very high. The message there is that there is no pa rt message there is that there is no part of the country that is virus free. Every part of the country has restrictions. We are in this together. The virus is behaving faster in certain parts of the country. That is watched every day and at the core of every decision thatis and at the core of every decision that is made on this is the epidemiology. The implementation of actions that together may slow the virus down and break that transmission. That is based on co nsta nt transmission. That is based on constant review of the science and it is kept under constant review. In terms of the review, what do you look at . We are hearing increases in percentage terms, in numbers, what do you look at . How did these levels change in terms of how important they are, how significant they are . What we look at is the number of new cases each day and we look at that by age group. One important age group to keep a close eye on is people aged over 60, increasing to over 70 and 80, because these are the people that we know are at risk of being hospitalised. We also look at it by the speed of transmission, how fast are these rates, these cases rise in . Bearing in mind that between 20 and 30 at least of cases are not showing symptoms, so whatever we are looking at there is likely to be more out there. In an area where there is very high rates, we know that that is the minimum we are looking at, so the speed of transmission and where that is happening fastest. Then we look at hospitalisations and the use of oxygen enabled beds. So a very rich array of information is looked at, sometimes several times every day. It is intense. So outside of national lockdown, what we saw in march, want to success . Which measures can improve the success rate in terms of reducing transmission . Clearly, if we have a reducing level of positivity in the population, in other words the positive rates in the population which are currentlyjust below 10 in certain places, and rising more than that in certain varied local places, that is worrying. If that is increasing and we know that people have good access to testing, that is not a good sign. The number of cases rising, that is not a good sign. To come back to those cases rising in older age groups mean there is spread in the population, which is a very important point. There is no such thing as segmenting a population that it doesnt spread across all age groups, it does. Briefly, testing, how important is that that the number of tests available and the number of people being tested increases. Up to now over 900,000 people have had to test it wouldnt have had a test before in previous years, so testing has increased enormously and will continue to do so. Now the aim will be to get faster results using new technology, faster turnaround, so that even more can be done. This is very important, but on its own it is not enough. When you get a test you need to isolate yourself and it is very important that we will comply with that. The most likely way this virus will run around this country is when people are on well with this virus and mixing closely. So isolating is really important. For the rest of us, complying with particularly these rules around household transmission and very close mixing. Thank you very much for your time. Thank you very much for your time. The Prime Minister has told leaders in Greater Manchester that, unless they agree to tougher restrictions in the region, he will need to intervene. Sean fielding is the leader of Oldham Council and joins us now. Good morning to you. Thank you for your time this morning. What is dual response to what the Prime Minister said yesterday . Good morning. I was staggered by some of the announcements coming out of downing street yesterday evening because we have stood ready as Greater Manchester to work with the government. We want to avoid the fire going any further, we know that we are getting increase in hospital admissions and Greater Manchester and we want to avoid to stories like this on your earlier film, people like michael. We had a meeting on thursday morning where they were talking about what restrictions might be in Greater Manchester and what financial package you might be able to get. That broke up without agreement. We were promised a further meeting later that day. We received an apology to say that meeting could be accommodated, yet we we re meeting could be accommodated, yet we were on standby all day yesterday for that meeting. We have no meeting. What we saw was Boris Johnson doubling down the pressure on manchester. We dont believe those measures will work and there is no financial package to help. You and your colleagues, what youre saying, are you saying that tier 3 as it stands is not acceptable in itself, or is it that youre saying that you would accept tier 3 if there were sufficient financial incentives to help locally, because those are two very different positions. We are not even sure what tier 3 is any more. Liverpool tier 3 was put in place that meant that james could close, in lancashire they are in tier 3 victims could stay open. This system unravelled after just a few days stay open. This system unravelled afterjust a few days being in place. I am afterjust a few days being in place. Iam not afterjust a few days being in place. I am not sure what we are expected to agree to any more. In lancashire there are local politicians who do understand because they have said they accept tier 3 and simultaneously have accepted an increased amount of money for the local area, so there isa group money for the local area, so there is a group of people there who have managed to work your way through something that you appear to be saying is impossible because you are neither accepting the tiering system, and youre also saying there is not enough money in the package. Iam not is not enough money in the package. I am not clear which part of this is that the g are not accepting. We we re that the g are not accepting. We were told that we would head towards tier 3 on thursday morning. Tier 3 seems to mean Different Things in different parts of the country. In manchester, we are not clear that closing hospitality will print on infection rates. If the government is insisting on closing businesses that we need money to mitigate the impact of that. It will lead to job losses, business failures, irreparable damage to the economy. We already have a fragile economy and Greater Manchester. If the government is unwilling to support those businesses than it is difficult for us to agree to business closures. On top of that is, what we have seen yesterday evening was the chief medical officer came out and said the only thing that is certain to work as a national Circuit Breaker and the regional lockdown shall necessarily bring the infection rate down. Their own scientists are saying that this tiering system is not a key to success in bringing the virus down. We should say that that was the comment from mr van tam. It is not something that was done publicly and it is understood he said that to a group of northern leaders, that is correct, isnt it . Something that was said during a meeting away from the cameras, is that right . He said that in a meeting with us on wednesday night. Chris whitty was asked the question yesterday evening asked the question yesterday evening as well and he made the same point. The government scientists are making the point about how it is a national Circuit Breaker lockdown is the only thing that would be guaranteed to solve this problem. If the scientists are saying that the tier is not going to lead to National Success here, then is it right to follow it . Are there any meeting scheduled between local leaders and the National Government over the next couple of days . There is nothing in my diary, no. Thank you for talking to this morning. Lets speak to a lancashire mp, the conservative member for rossendale and darwen jake berry. Im not sure how much you heard of that interview there, but he was making very clear that he is not clear and mps making very clear that he is not clearand mps and making very clear that he is not clear and mps and councillors around him are not clear about tier 3 restrictions and the impact it is having on the economy. Why was it accepted where you are . Im really pleased that in lancashire we have been able to agree a way forward. The truth is that we know in large parts of the north west that tier 2 does not work because on wednesday this week when new restrictions were brought in for many of us, including my constituents, it was a slight relaxation of the measures we have beenin relaxation of the measures we have been in since august. During that period we have seen the infection go up period we have seen the infection go up tenfold. We can say in the north west that tier 2 will not work, so therefore i am pleased we decided to take that additional step in lancashire to see what we can do working with the government to bring this terrible disease under control. What evidence do you need to show that the rates are improving and that the rates are improving and that you can come out of tier 3, and when will that be . We havent been told and that will be but it its a really important points and i have been making this for some weeks. I wa nt been making this for some weeks. I want the government to level with the British Public, with people from lancaster and across the north of england and so we can show you the way out of tier 3 back to tier 2. If you visit any scout hut or church around the country, more often than not youll see thermometer on the wall saying we are a hundred points away from our target or whatever the case may be. I think the British Public would react extremely well to having the data shared with them in a simple and meaningful way. My preference would be through the nhs test and trace app, to try to bring the people with us. The point that is made by Greater Manchester is that people are very sceptical about whether this tier system will work. No one has really demonstrated to us the way out or how these measures will work. It is interesting you say a spoonful of scepticism. Andy burnham has accused the government of treating the north like a canary ina coal of treating the north like a canary in a coal mine. Do you share that sentiment . I dont think your viewers and the nation want politicians to get and he said, she said blame game about this. It is clear to me that if local data dictates, and andy burnham has spokenin dictates, and andy burnham has spoken in this way, if local data dictates measures, then local areas should take up those matters. I will not get into criticising anyone else, but that does seem to be the right approach to me and that is why i dont think a national lockdown, which people have spoken about, is the right thing. If tier 3 doesnt work in lancashire or if the continuance of tier 2 in other areas of the north west doesnt work, i do think now is the time for the government to be our firebreak lockdown across the north west of england for a time limited period of say three weeks. Just a few months ago i went to my mothers bedside and she was taken from us too soon because during the pandemic, she was not able to continue with her cancer treatment. So when the nhs is overwhelmed, it isnt just people dying so when the nhs is overwhelmed, it isntjust people dying off covid, but people having their lives shortened by failure to receive other treatment and do not want any other treatment and do not want any otherfamily in other treatment and do not want any other family in the north west of england to have to sit round and have those conversations at home about a failure of treatment because of covid for one of their loved ones. My condolences for the loss of your mother and thank you very much for talking to us on a breakfast this morning. The time now is 8 32am at. We have the sport and weather coming upfor at. We have the sport and weather coming up for you but the headlines injusta coming up for you but the headlines injust a moment. Hello, this is breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Coming up before nine, well hear how the rspca is dealing with a surge in abandoned horses because of the coronavirus pandemic. But first, a summary of this mornings main news. Lancashire has become the second place in england to move into the highest coronavirus alert level tier 3. Pu bs, restau ra nts a nd cafes in Northern Ireland have also closed as part of stricter covid 19 restrictions. They will only be allowed to serve takeaways for the next four weeks. Hair and beauty salons have also shut while schools will close for a fortnight from monday. Authorities in wales have banned people from coronavirus hotspots in other parts of the uk from entering. The french president Emmanuel Macron has described the murder of a teacher on the outskirts of paris yesterday as an islamist terror attack. The man was killed outside the school where, earlier this month, he had shown his pupils cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a discussion about freedom of expression. His attacker was shot dead by police a short time later. Those are the main stories this morning. The weather coming up a little later, the time is 8 3aam which means my because the sport. It is one of those days, where as a sports presenter, you could start with a whole bunch of stuff, because there are big things going on. A wonderful day. I have waited a long time for a day. I have waited a long time for a day like this. I apologise to my dog, he will not get much of a walk today, so much going on, on the bbc as well. Its the showpiece event, in the rugby League Calendar the challenge cup final this afternoon at wembley, but for the first time in the competitions 12a year history, it will be played in an empty stadium. 13 time winners leeds rhinos take on the Salford Red Devils who are in their first final, for over half a century. Fans have waited a lifetime for this. And im delighted to say im joined live by both head coaches. In the leeds camp, its richard agar, while for the red devils of salford, its ian watson. Morning chaps, lets start with you ian. You werent even born the last time your boyhood team were last at wembley. Youve supported them, you played for them and you now have this chance to lead them out at wembley. How are you feeling . Really excited for the opportunity that is presented to us now, being able to play at wembley. Of italy disappointing that the supporters cannot be there, but i think what this team and club has been at the last couple of years is to provide inspiration to the local communities, that is what our club is all about, the community and eve ryo ne is all about, the community and everyone being on board and on the same page and that is the big plus of salford at this present time, especially within all the tough times with the covid situation at the moment. Yes, it must be such an emotional day for you after a lifetime wanting this. You use that emotion to inspire the players or do you try to put that one side to ensure calm, so in a way the occasion doesnt really affect anybody . You can use emotion, but sometimes a lot of people use emotion in the wrong way. It is probably best being used to inspire, rather than let the emotion takeover and you on that emotion something generally goes wrong normally, so it is keeping that emotion in check and using it to help inspire you as the tea m using it to help inspire you as the team as you face the challenges like we do today with leeds. Lets bring in richard. 5 years since the rhinos were in the final, and won, but this is a final like no other because of the lack of fans. Yes, absolutely, but at the same time we feel it is a final that will be remembered. At the end of the day, it is a challenge cup final so the prize at the end of it, both our teams, is still an extremely big one. I think it is leeds 25th appearance in the final in 125 years, so even appearance in the final in 125 years, so even that is a fairly successful club, it is very hard to make it to this showpiece occasions, so we make it to this showpiece occasions, so we want to make the most of it and fans ought no fans, i think it is up to both teams, with a bit of luck we can give the public at home if another crew member for the right reasons. There is a rich history fairclub infinals, reasons. There is a rich History Fair Club in finals, does that make a difference . I dont think many will be aware of it. We have a couple of players still left in sport from five years ago, the last ten diviners were here, but that i think in the case our guys, we are more looking to do it for each other, for our fans who have stuck with us over a couple of tough years by the clubs standards and again it is an occasion that we are very much looking forward to. Back to ian, how much has your preparation been disrupted by the two covid 19 positive cases in the week . Early in the week it was a disruption, but once we got over that and we got our two tests back negative, everything has been pretty good since the kr game, so we cannot complain on preparation, we are all good and looking forward to the challenge now. You made the grand final a year ago, lost that, but what would it mean to the city to finally gets hands on silverware . It would be huge. Pretty lights offer that has not been to a challenge cup final a51 yea rs, i not been to a challenge cup final a51 years, i think it would mean everything. Playing in a way that the community is by rolling your sleeves up, being better and working ha rd sleeves up, being better and working hard and really representing the area and the right way. Just seeing some wonderful pits of the last time salford were in the final in the 60s, wonderful memories which you will be hoping you can repeat. Lets go back to richard. Richard, when leeds last won, the legend rob burrow scored. This year after his Incredible Campaign to raise awareness of his Motor Neurone Disease, he will be honoured, even if he wont be there in person. How much will he be an inspiration for the team . I think it is a great touch by the rfl to make a guest of honour, even in his absence, and it will be a wonderful part of our narrative if we could get the job done today and for rob, he has been for a real tough time. Has coached a number of guys within our squad and has played with a guys within our squad and has played witha numberof guys within our squad and has played with a number of them, i think as most people would have seen the pictures this week about his fight over the last few years with mnd and it has been inspirational, notjust us but for many people out there. This is an inspiration that goes beyond the dressing room, beyond the sport even. He is an inspiration to everybody in the world. You watch a story and see how it touches people from every walk of life, so is not only an inspiration to rugby and sports people, but absolutely everybody across the world. Ian and richard, thank you very much for your time. Best of luck to both clu bs, your time. Best of luck to both clubs, hoping for a cracking challenge cup final. The challenge cup final between leeds and salford live on bbc one from 1. A5. Ahead of that from 1 15, therell be a re run of the documentary produced by bbc breakfast and bbc sport rob burrow my year with mnd, which follows the leeds rhinos legends battle with Motor Neurone Disease. No fans at that match, but there were some in the south of france, on a historic night in rugby union for bristol bears, who won their first ever european trophy by beating toulon, in the challenge cup. Whats more, toulon are one of the most successful clubs in european rugby, but they were beaten 32 19 by bristol, who were only promoted back to the top tier of english rugby two years ago. Max malins got the crucial second half score, in the south of france, and a thousand fans were allowed into this one to witness the celebrations. Was a moment of triumph for bristol bears. Tonight its the turn of exeter chiefs, who play in their first european final, against racing 92 for the biggest prize in club rugby. Before this season exeter had never been past the quarter finals in the champions cup, but now theyre favourites to complete a remarkable rise having been promoted to the premiership ten years ago. In football, both liverpool and glasgow have lunchtime derbies today. Its the First Old Firm derby since lockdown, as celtic and rangers face each other, as the top two in the scottish premiership. Celtic are champions and going for a 10th successive title, but its rangers who start the day top of the table, a point clear of their great rivals. Theres also a huge derby on merseyside. The last time everton beat liverpool it was 10 years ago. At the time liverpool were second bottom in the premier league. So much has changed. Plenty of build up in football focus from midday with dan walker, who is with us now. Everton have every reason to hope and believe they can and that ten year wait for victory over their rivals. Exactly, a fantastic double fixture of derbies to start the saturday off on what is, as you say, a really busy weekend of sport to. It will be featuring the old firm derby, that one point lead for rangers at the top, but from a merseyside point of view, everton top of the table, perfect record, hope and dreams from the blue side of merseyside at the moment. Liverpool on the back of the worst defeat ever and thatjurgen klopp, underjurgen klopp, and it is an anniversary for him, because this weekend marks five years in charge of liverpool and all this going on while liverpool is in tier 3 restrictions at the moment, but jurgen klopp is keen to talk about that anniversary. I spoke to my family about it and it was like, really, five years already . Five years of your life is a really long time, whatever you do, years of your life is a really long time, whateveryou do, being years of your life is a really long time, whatever you do, being that long ina time, whatever you do, being that long in a club means something to you because it makes it a big part of your life, of your own story and lam of your life, of your own story and i am really proud that i have that story together with the club because itjust means story together with the club because it just means something story together with the club because itjust means Something Special to me. It is a special club and we manage somehow to stay that long and we hope we can stay even longer, but the time passed like crazy quick. We hope we can stay even longer, but the time passed like crazy quickm is going to be fascinating to see what happens in that game. We talked recently about the pay per view matches and the first of those takes place today, chelsea against southampton. We also have the source reckons the apprentice, Manchester City against arsenal, so Pep Guardiola taking over our tet as the two managers. A nice piece on luton in the championship at the moment and the manager there, he left luton when they were doing well go to stoke, did not quite work out at sta ke, we nt stoke, did not quite work out at stake, went back to luton and this weekend, his two teams play each other in the championship. You will know as well it is a black History Month right across the bbc, really lovely piece on hope powell today and one piece to keep an eye on today, it is aboutjudy welch, a really well known journalist and she was the first female journalist on fleet street, right back in the 19705 and it is a feature piece on her and some of the things that she went through as that first female breaking through into football journalism. Watch the piece and see her expenses, but things like she wa5 groped by a manager at one point and she used to have to read her copy for it to then be typed up and all her male colleagues with listening to every word 5he all her male colleagues with listening to every word she was filing to make sure it was ok. So you can see the barriers 5he broke through and many female journali5t5 who are enjoying job5 through and many female journali5t5 who are enjoying jobs will look back and think of what she had to go through and be thankful. As we know, the pandemic is having an impact on almost every aspect of our lives, but its Ripple Effect is also being felt by animals. The rspca says its dealing with a surge in the number of horses being abandoned because of the financial pressure faced by their owners. Now, the charity is asking other horse lovers to help, a5 Duncan Kennedy reports. For these horses, this is a field of dreams. Somewhere for now that becky, hallie, brett and bert can call home. Juliet is one of those who now looks after them. They are incredibly friendly. Ye5, these two are. She says it is hard to understand how anyone could treat them like this. I just wish that people would ask for help, because there is help out there so that you do not have to leave them and abandon them. There has been a surge in the number of abandoned hor5e5 across the country. Thi5 huge group was found recently in northamptonshire. Many are in a terrible state. The rspca is now caring for around 750 of those horses, the highest number since 2009. Rosie from the rspca says owner5 are getting rid of their animals during the covid cri5i5 because they cannot afford to keep them. People are on furlough at the moment due to covid and they are struggling financially. They are struggling to pay for food costs for their horses and the breeders are still breeding unfortunately and no one can buy these horses. The cost of keeping abandoned hor5e5 is huge. Animal charities do not get any covid related support from the government and the rspca says its income has dropped by half since march. The rspca says hor5e5 like hallie, brett and bert here often arrive having been 5tarved and ill treated, but they say after a few weeks of care, attention by the rspca staff, they become friendly and able to be rehomed. That is why ahead of winter they are desperately appealing for help from horse lover5 like alison hargreaves. She has agreed to take in one abandoned horse named nelly. I have got two alpacas. She gets on well with them and with my other horse as well. She is a very quick learner. She loves to be busy and doing things and i think were going to have a load of fun together, arent we . The rspca thinks the problem of abandoned hor5e5 will get even worse as the Financial Difficulties of covid deepen. An equine dimension to an economic crisis. Duncan kennedy, bbc news in kent. The new series of strictly starts on bbc one tonight, with a dozen novice dancers who you might normally 5ee on the stage, screen or sports field. One of this years crop, however, comes from the rather less glitzy world of politics. Shes the former home secretary jacqui smith and she was a labour mp for 13 years. Before we speak to jacqui, lets enjoy a quick reminder of some other strictly contestants who were more familiar with westminster than waltzing. There she was in the glitzy picture there and we go live to her now in north london. Good morning. Good morning. How are you feeling . You have the launch 5how morning. How are you feeling . You have the launch show tonight, so how are you feeling about that . Really excited, nervou5 are you feeling about that . Really excited, nervous about the whole thing starting. I have been doing some proper dancing this week, which we re some proper dancing this week, which were not actually see until next week, but i have met my partner, cannot tell you who it is yet, that will be revealed this evening, but it has been absolutely fantastic. It i5 it has been absolutely fantastic. It is just such it has been absolutely fantastic. It isjust such a it has been absolutely fantastic. It is just such a different thing for me to do, having never done any dancing before, but im thoroughly enjoying it. Tell us how it is working in terms of bubbles, because a lot of people are interested now. I understand you have moved to london and you are living with your partner, your dance partner, in a bubble, is that correct . Not quite, i have moved to london so that i can actually live on my own so that i can be in a bubble with my dance partner. We are not living together or anything like that, but me and my dance partner are in a bubble because obviously you cannot remain two metre distance from the person youre trying to foxtrot, sambar or anything else with. So that is how it is working with our partners. With the crew, there are all sorts of provisions in place. The team have been absolutely brilliant in the way they have organised this. We have all kept distanced, someone walk5 have all kept distanced, someone walks around with a pole making sure we are all at two metres apart from each other. You will see we are doing a group dance this evening where we do the dance close with our partners but two metres away from all the other partners but because of the way they filmed it, it looks absolutely brilliant, i can assure you, so it will be well worth the watch. The dancers themselves, there have been pictures of the dancers themselves in a group, are they in a bubble themselves and if so how does that work, because at one of those is your dance partner . Because what happened was, all of the professional dancers went into another bubble for a month earlier on in the year and they recorded all of the group dances, some of which you will see this evening, and they are absolutely beautiful. Then they came out of that bubble and formed a new bubble with their celebrity partner. That is how that worked. New bubble with their celebrity partner. That is how that workedm is all fascinating this stuff. Im sorry you know it all, but we do not know it yet. Are a number of people who have been on the sofa had been on strike the come dancing and i remember mike telling some stories about the spray tan procedure. Naga is mentioning with the costumes sometimes you have to get sewn in, the relations to distance and, how do those things work . You are saying about being two metres, some bits of that, how does that work . The wardrobe people, make up, hairart wearing full visors and masks, so they are able to come a little closer, like if you went to the hairdressers ought to a beauty salon or Something Like that. But naga is absolutely right, you get your costu me absolutely right, you get your costume on. Slightly nervously i said when we were doing some of the recording for the launch show, am i going to be able to take it off ain . Going to be able to take it off again . Because between you me of course, and naga will know this, it isa course, and naga will know this, it is a bit difficult to go through the loo when you are in your costume, saw the practicalities have to be thought through, but the end result is glitter, sparkle, fantastic show. Im not one for necessarily giving great advice, but my advice would be just throw yourself into it and enjoy every minute, because it is a bizarre, crazy experience, but i also note that ed balls, who was in the when i was on, 2016, he has been giving you some advice as well. What has he been saying . Interestingly, he said exactly the same thing. Hes said look, one of the things about being a politician is your reasonably comfortable about doing an interview about yourself, but you have obviously not got any dancing skills in my case, or the acting or projecting stuff and you just have to go for it and certainly in the dance i will be doing next week, which will be my first proper live at dance, i have been working obviously on learning the steps, but as ed rightly said, projecting yourself and really looking as if yourself and really looking as if you are trying, trust me, i am trying. As you know, naga, i have made good use of my bath salts, footpaths and plasters this week. Have you had a chance to check out the opposition as yet . Do you get to see them in training or any little insightss into what they are doing what theyre like . Insightss into what they are doing what theyre like . The thing that happens as there is just a brilliant camaraderie between the contestants, because some are young and fit and some have done some dancing before and look absolute fabulous, but everybody is full of nerves and we have a whatsapp group, we get to talk to each other when we are doing recordings from a suitable distance away, but we are all sharing a common adventure and that has been absolutely lovely, so i can say about all the other contestants they are brilliant, such a fun bunch and i think together you will see there is quite a range of ages, experiences, and i think that is what makes a strictly fun. People coming from all different places but sharing thejoy of coming from all different places but sharing the joy of the glitter and be dancing, which i hope we will be able to communicate with others, because if ever there was a near new micra year when we needed a bit of that, it is this yet. Even as you talk, you arejiggling, you are dancing already. That is what you are doing, use that move, that would be great. Good luck, enjoy it. Please enjoy it and good luck to you as well, thank you forjoining us. Headlines are coming up here injust a moment. Good morning and welcome to breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Our headlines today millions of people across the uk are now subject to tougher coronavirus restrictions after new measures came in overnight. From today, tighter lockdown rules for1. 5 from today, tighter lockdown rules for 1. 5 Million People across lancashire, whojoined for 1. 5 Million People across lancashire, who joined those for 1. 5 Million People across lancashire, whojoined those in liverpool in entering tier 3, the this highest alert level for coronavirus restrictions. This highest alert level for coronavirus restrictions. Shock in france as a teacher is killed in a suspected terror attack. Tougher rules for motorists now drivers are to be banned from picking up and using their mobile phones. Its a huge day of sport with two rugby finals, in league and union, after two lunchtime derbies in glasgow, and liverpool, where everton start on top for a change. Our reporter luxmy gopal is in blackpool for us this morning, but first lets speak tojohn mcmanus in central london. John, these are significant changes for a huge number of people. These new measures are common in london. This is a significant number of people who are going to have to adjust to what the new restrictions are. Millions of people now living under these new tier 2 level high alert restrictions imposed by the government. Here in london, and in most parts of essex, joining people in north east derbyshire, and many more around the country, who now are not allowed to socialise indoors with other people unless they are already part of the same bubble or live in the same household. The restrictions came into force today. Businesses particularly in the Hospitality Industry said they expect to take a financial hit because of that, but the police have said they will enforce these new rules, especially this evening when we expect to see police out on patrol. Just down the road from me in soho police were out in force last night. At 10 30pm they had to disperse people who left paris at ten oclock when they closed. Thats the new normal, but then refused to leave the area. From the pictures you can see there were some minor confrontations. Police say there will be mounting extra patrols to in areas in england where they feel the need to, but they hoped they would have to take too much enforcement action. That will probably take the form of fines. Elsewhere in the uk and Northern Ireland, schoolchildren have been given an extra week off at the half term so they wont be back in school until the end of this month. There have been a full lockdown of bars, pubs, hair salons, driving lessons, prison visits suspended. In wales, anybody from the rest of the uk who lives in a covid 19 hotspot can no longer enter the country. The entire scottish central belt, anyone from Northern Ireland and anyone under tier 2 or tier 3 restrictions here in england. Mark drake is expected to make a decision about a full lockdown in wheels that could last between two and three weeks. 1. 5 Million People in lancashire are now under the highest level of restrictions in england. Our reporter luxmy gopal is in blackpool. Luxmy, blackpool is the sort of place that will be hit particularly hard by the new rules. Blackpool has already been particularly hits. Absolutely. These new restrictions that have come into force today, the tier 3 restrictions they strike at the heart of the blackpool economy. Pubs and bars having to close unless they serve food, and from monday, bingo halls and casinos will have to shut, as well. If you think about the impact on the economy here, every year tourism and leisure industry is worth around £1. 5 billion to blackpool economy. Today with these new restrictions they really do take a hit. The leader of blackpool council, the labour leader said that this is not what she wanted but she had no choice but to accept another Labour Council leader has said they we re Labour Council leader has said they were bullied, harassed into accepting these conditions. The conservative Council Leader of the council said this is a good dealfor the region. A reminder of why those measures were felt to be necessary. Here in blackpool the Coronavirus Infection rates is around 2a0 per 100,000 people. If we go over to the other side, to the east side, pendle, that has got nearly double, a50 cases per 100,000 people. Overall in the north west they have seen some of the fastest coronavirus rates in the country, which is why these measures were deemed to be necessary here. Lets talk now to our Political Correspondent jonathan blake. In lancashire, local leaders were able to come to an agreement with the National Government, but that is not the case elsewhere, specifically in manchester. There is a real problem, something of an impasse there. Yes, it is an impasse, stand off if you like. Although downing street signalled a week or so ago that i wanted to involve local leaders more in the Decision Making process about what restrictions were neededin process about what restrictions were needed in each particular area, that has resulted in some cases are relatively smooth process where discussions go well and the restrictions are imposed with the agreement of both sides, albeit with agreement of both sides, albeit with a little bit of debate over whether that was up for discussion at all in realistic terms or not. Elsewhere, particularly in Greater Manchester, there is no agreement. The outcome that could result, as the Prime Minister raised the prospect of yesterday, in acting unilaterally and the government imposing restrictions on particular areas without the agreement of local leaders. That would be a very difficult and almost unworkable situation, because i think the public would rightly be confused about what the message was and who thought this was a good idea and he thought this was a good idea and he thought it wasnt. As these discussions go on, the cases continue to rise in certain areas and that will be weighing on the minds of those involved in negotiations. It is hard to see where it will go because there are no talks planned between local leaders in Greater Manchester and the government over the weekend and it may be that if cases continue to rise there and elsewhere, the government is forced to change tack and there could be further measures taken on a national basis. President macron has described the murder of a teacher on the outskirts of paris yesterday as an islamist terror attack. The man was killed outside the school where, earlier this month, he had shown his pupils cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a discussion about freedom of expression. Translation i want to tell all the teachers of france tonight that we are with them, that the entire nation will be there, at their side, today and tomorrow, to protect them, to defend them. To allow them to do theirjob, which is the most beautiful there is, to make free citizens. The Education Minister tweeted that unity and determination were the only responses to what he called a despicable assassination. Frances National Assembly stood in silence to honour the victim yesterday, a man who, just before the attack, had wished his pupils are happy half term, with a joke. One parent said his daughter was devastated, asking, how can i explain to her the unspeakable . Lucy williamson, bbc news, conflans sainte honorine. The law on using a mobile phone while driving is being tightened up to banish a loophole which has allowed some motorists to avoid prosecution. Ministers want to update the legislation, which was imposed before the advent of smartphones, so that it bans any driver from picking up and using their device while at the wheel. Early indications from new zealands general election suggest Prime Ministerjacinda ardern is on course for a resounding victory. Her labour party had been favourites going into the vote, which was delayed by a month because of a renewed outbreak of coronavirus in auckland. Ms ardern has been Prime Minister since 2017. Heres ben with a look at this mornings weather. Good morning. Some of us are starting off with some relatively bright skies this morning. This is how it looked in the shetland. This was the scene in the west of wales. While there is some blue sky out there, there is also a lot of cloud. If you think at this weekend has mostly dry but mostly cloudy you wouldnt go too far wrong. You can see extensive cloud on the map heading through the day, but equally some breaks here and there, some spells of sunshine. Weather cloud is artistic as it could produce the r shower here and there. Some patchy rain pushing down into the north of scotland. Temperatures today between nine and 13 degrees. Through this evening and tonight, extensive cloud filtering down from the north, it will produce some spots of rain or drizzle. Clear skies further south. If this guy is stay clear for the length of time mist and fog could develop. Temperatures widely between five and 8 degrees, but any lengthy clear spells could have like to get colder. Tomorrow, more of the same. The cloud which are some splashes of rain here and there, but the cloud turning and braking from time to time to give some limited spells of sunshine. Temperatures foremost between nine and 1a degrees, although the far north of scotland, particularly shetland, may get no higher than five or 6 degrees. Things change quite significantly to the coming week, turning much more u nsettled. The coming week, turning much more unsettled. There will be wind and rain at times. Briefly, though, it will turn a little bit milder. Were doing our best this morning to get to grips with the tightening of coronavirus restrictions in various parts of the uk and what it means for you. Lets take a look at some of them. Lancashire is now the second area of england to be placed in tier 3, the very high alert level. That means people there are now banned from socialising with anyone they dont live with, both indoors and in most outdoor settings. Pubs and bars closed last night, but unlike the liverpool city region, which is also classed as tier 3, gyms can stay open. Millions of people in london, essex, york, barrow in furness and four other areas face tougher measures from today as they are moved up to the high alert level, or tier 2. It means they are now banned from mixing indoors with other households. People from high risk areas across the uk are no longer allowed to cross the border into wales. It means residents in nearby merseyside, Greater Manchester and lancashire are now banned from entering wales. Northern ireland begins a four week Circuit Breaker today, which means pubs, bars and restaurants can only offer takeaways while hair and beauty salons have closed. Schools will shut for two weeks from monday. Joining us now to answer some of your questions is the virologist dr chris smith, hes in cambridge, and the gp dr sarahjarvis. Good morning to both of you. We have selected a number of questions. Anyway, almost every question depends on the circumstances and locality. Sarah, we will start with you. Sarah, we will start with you. Anne in lancashire has sent us this question. I live in lancashire, i am 18 years old, my daughter lives in Greater Manchester. How do these restrictions apply to us . It is a great question. In the first lockdown everyone would have said that it said, no travelling between different areas. In the first lockdown we find that there were huge impacts on mental harm for people who were shielding. The regulations now say you should avoid travelling from or into any high risk area, unless it is Something Like work, education or to meet caring responsibilities. From my perspective, i would say that if youre ina perspective, i would say that if youre in a very high risk area and he wanted to travel to a medium or high risk area, then you should do it as little as you can, but if you have got somebody who is genuinely not going to get the care they need or whose Mental Health might suffer because of isolation, then i think that those kind, but please try to keep the contact to a minimum. That those kind, but please try to keep the contact to a minimumm that those kind, but please try to keep the contact to a minimum. It is really interesting, sarah. As the nuances, you were trying to get to the heart of what those problems are, here is another one. Sarah, we will ask you this one as well. Sarah, we will ask you this one as well. Dave asks i am based in lancashire. My 93 year old mum is based in Greater Manchester. Can she remain part of our bubble . It is not terribly clear what is happening with bubbles in high and very high risk areas. I would say yes, if she is old and otherwise isolated. Manchester should be at tier 3 area, if you look at the number of risks, the size of the risk, the rate at which hospital admissions and cases have been going up. We know there are political reasons for that. Should you travel between high risk and very high risk areas . No, ideally not. Should you be socialising with people outside your bubble . No, absolutely not. But if she is part of your bubble that is almost certainly because she is very isolated and that means she is likely to be at very low risk. If she has carers coming in, that may increase the risk, but my feeling would be that yes, she can stay part of your bubble. Steph is a beauty salon owner in lancashire, she sent us this question. At what point will these new restrictions be removed for the beauty industry. As we work in close contact services, we would like to know when these will be will next be reviewed. Steph owns a beauty salon in lancashire. How long is a piece of string, to be quite honest. It will vary because part of these new rules and regulations mean that more powers have been handed to local authorities. This means that they can make judgments on where they can make judgments on where they see the action, the transmission is occurring, where the risk is occurring and they can inflate and deflate those risks according to need a local pressures. It will very much depends on what the disease is doing in the community in a particular geography. If cases continue to rise, they will have a harder time making a case for de escalation. On the other hand, if there is evidence of a flattening or reduction in cases, that means that these things must be reviewed. There must be reviewed regularly because everyone accepts that industry is important, the economy is important, it is all about slowing the rate of transmission of the disease. I think there are a lot of people out there today who have been watching the news this week and the same fear that we felt creeping in back in march and april when we saw those dramatic pictures from italy and we began to see headlines and the same things are going to happen in our country. Sure enough, we have cases on the rise in hospitals. What has to be borne in mind by everybody is that your risk as an individual is really, really low on all of this that you will get a problem. The vast majority of the time you and your family will be absolutely fine, but we have to remember because a large proportion of the population have not had this virus, there are a large number of people to be unwell and that could overwhelm the Health Service. Nick has emailed in. He says i own a gym in lancashire, can i still allow clients from Greater Manchester and other areas below tier 3 to come to the gym . How should i be monitoring where my clients are coming from . Im sorry, neck, it is clear that you need to avoid going in and out ofa high you need to avoid going in and out of a high alert area. The chances for you individually when you go to a gym, youre probably in relatively good shape so your individual risks are small. The problem is if youre going to a gym you are coming in and going to a gym you are coming in and going back out again and if you contract there in a very high risk area, which are more likely to, there is a real risk you could take a back out into the community to somebody who is much more vulnerable. From my perspective, no, people shouldnt be travelling to very high risk areas. It does not work, education, it is not Youth Services or caring or travelling through as part of a longerjourney without stopping. Alex is a student. Shes sent us this question. She is studying in south yorkshire, tier 1, family she is studying in south yorkshire, tier1, family and she is studying in south yorkshire, tier 1, family and lancashire, simple question, can i go home and see them . Its along the lines of what you were just saying. See them . Its along the lines of what you were just sayingm see them . Its along the lines of what you were just saying. It really is. You can say you are travelling to and from as part of education, but i think it is very different if you are doing a course which is 20 miles away and you are having to travel and didnt have any choice and you couldnt do it online, because schools and universities have stayed open, but i really dont think it is a good idea if somebody from a low risk area who are studying goes home to a very high risk area, takes a back, we have already seen huge numbers among students. Those students are very unlikely to get ill and i completely understand it full completely aggrieved at being locked down. The problem is universities are not bubbles, they are very low key saves and that lea ks out bubbles, they are very low key saves and that leaks out into the community. Chris, on a wider thought, people may now be reminded ofa time thought, people may now be reminded of a time before when we were seeing a lot of images and worrying about the nhs system. Can you tell a sub at the time lag between the number of cases and hospitalisations, people in hospital . What i was alluding to before is that we have learned from six months ago that the risk to an individual on average in the population of getting severe Coronavirus Infection and dying of it is very, very low. It is about 0. 5 . At the same time, more than 90 of the population and those parts of the country have not had this infection so therefore could catch it. Even though the chances of an individual catching this eye catching it sufficiently badly to end up needing the care in a hospital, therefore putting pressure on the hospital, notjust pressure from coronavirus, but compromising all the other services to Health Service can deliver, because of the potential of large numbers of people to do that, that is why we are trying to slow down the spread of the virus. One has to bear in mind that what we do today will not have its effects felt for about two or three weeks because a person has an incubation period between five and ten maybe as long as ia, then you feel rough for a week or so, then you might feel sufficiently unwell to seek medical advice and be referred to hospital. You then deteriorate for a father for a further week or you turn the corner. You might then end up in intensive care. There could be that like them between three or four weeks between catching the disease and being sufficiently unwell to be in intensive care. What lead to today will not see the effects of for about a month. What we see today is the legacy of what we were doing a month ago. Chris, i like to see numbers and be guided by numbers, i find it easier to understand. What numbers are significant . When we we re numbers are significant . When we were talking about quarantine i think it was 20 cases in 100,000, when we were looking at levels of what was acceptable. What levels are we talking about now, what numbers are changing . The threshold that defines tier 1, medium are changing . The threshold that defines tier1, medium risk, and setsit defines tier1, medium risk, and sets it apart from tier 2, high risk, is 100 per 100,000. Sets it apart from tier 2, high risk, is 100 per100,000. That is the number that has arbitrarily been sent as being indicative of the disease being on the move. No number in isolation is useful on its own. The key thing to look at is the change, the trend. They say the trend is your friend and here it is because it tells you what is happening and how fast it is happening. That is the key thing. If you have a gentle change means you have probably got more time to make a difference than if you have a very rapid change. At the minute things are changing quite rapidly but not as rapidly as back in march and april. We are also testing a lot more. When you look at the grass and you see the picture being painted that there are 20,000 cases per day, and to ask what the office of National Statistics report project, it was up to 50,000 new cases per day. The key thing is we are detecting almost all of those, whereas back in march and april we we re whereas back in march and april we were detecting and very small number. I would like to reassure people that you can tell some consolation from that. This is no grounds for complacency because things can move very quickly. If we all do our bit and do most of the right things most of the time we will go mostly in the right direction and we will hopefully keep the levels in the community low, meaning schools can operate, people can continue to go to work and have a life as near normal as possible and we dont risk overwhelming the nhs, which is already under pressure. Many people dont realise because of pressure from coronavirus and having to physically distance what we do in the hospital, or Hospital Capacity is 20 to 30 down compared to where it would normally be and we havent even got into winter proper and had the seasonal pressures come to bear. It is very important we come to protect the more fragile nhs that we have this year. We all have to do our bit. would say to both of you, you will be well aware when we do these things that really benefits people because there are so many questions. I know the answers are not always straightforward but youre both very good at steering us through this public territory. Thank you very much. Were on bbc one until ten oclock this morning, when matt tebbutt takes over in the saturday kitchen. Good morning, how are you guys. Im being nice to get this morning m makes me more nervous, to be honest. Our special guest today is sara cox. Good morning. We will talk properly later. Lets talk about food heaven, foot health. Heaven, anything mexican, anything involving beans. Comfort food, but a bit of space. Hell is any cake involved in fruit. I like cake and i like fruit but they should never come together. Good to have you back. they should never come together. Good to have you back. I am doing a naked reveller naked ravioli, the stuffing of ravioli. Also a master class. I am going to make fresh pasta by hand. Donna is like and under. Im going to be making some really simply crispy noodle omelette which is really tasty, lots of big flavours. I think you will love it. What time is it there . Its night time. The questions get out than this, donna. It isjust after 7pm. All economic you have your trolley ready . I have. I have been testing across the supermarket ranges across the uk. Quality is up. I have found some belters. It is up to you to decide what sara will be eating later on. Thank you so much. Sounds wonderful. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty. Good morning, it is at 9 31am, thanks forjoining us. The Rugby League Challenge cup final takes place at wembley this afternoon. There wont be many fans present but the match will start, as always, with a rendition of the hymn, abide with me. Its always a moving moment but it will take on a particular resonance this time as rugby League Supporters of every club spare a thought for rob burrow, the former leeds rhinos player. Rob has Motor Neurone Disease and hes been documenting that experience here on breakfast and in a special documentary, which will be shown on bbc one before the match. Lets take a look. It is gorgeous though. Who needs gran canaria or lanzarote . The number of people, opposition parents and that, they always used to say oh he is good, that rob, but he is never going to make it because he is not big enough. Theyjust knew that if he got the ball and he set off running, they werent going to catch him. Rob just always treated me like a princess and if there was anybody that i was going to spend the rest of the time with, it was going to be rob. Im very lucky to be involved in a special group of players throughout my career and this is the fairy tale ending. With the challenge that has been laid down now, he will take it head on and fight it and attack it like he has his whole rugby career. Im still transitioning from not being diagnosed, to finding out and coming to terms with having a disease where there is no cure. You know, i have too many reasons to live. Im not giving in till my last breath. So lovely seeing robert there and his wife and they have been so positive about living the best lives they can, even though rob has this condition. Were joined now by simonjohnson, chair of the Rugby Football League and also katie bryan shes a leeds rhinos superfan and a member of the pudsey runners, who are raising money for research into Motor Neurone Disease. Good morning to you both. Lets begin with you, simon. Rob burrow, so important, so adored, how important is it that he is part of this today . Good morning. It is very important. Had the challenge cup final taken place in july, important. Had the challenge cup final taken place injuly, when we had hoped it would, rob would have been our chief guest and would have been our chief guest and would have been here with us. But now that it has been delayed for all the reasons that we know, there was no way that we wa nted that we know, there was no way that we wanted to take that honour away from him and we are delighted that he will be our chief guest in absentia, which allows the whole by absentia, which allows the whole Rugby League Family to pledge their support for rob, to easily make a donation into research for people who are suffering from m n d and to show rugby League Families support for this great cause. For me as the chair of the sport, this illness has hit me particularly personally. I lost my very dear cousin to this disease in february. I lost 88 board member a few years ago and so is the chair of the sport, i wanted to make sure that could do everything we could to support the fight of one of our greatest legends of the sport who is coping so bravely with the affliction that he has. Katie, lets have a chat with you. Good morning, by the way. We are seeing some of those images there of rob in his heyday playing, the fantastic player heyday playing, the fantastic player he was, and that was something over the years you have enjoyed, long before what is happening now has unfolded, but you remember those days very vividly. Absolutely, yes, good morning. I have been a lifelong by good morning. I have been a lifelong rugby fan, as my family have and as many other people that i run with here at the running club have. We have watched him weaken, we count, and we have just been devastated by what has happened to rob and we are desperate to do anything we could to help. Desperate to do anything we could to help. Watched desperate to do anything we could to help. Watched him weaken that we count. I knew you have been doing a lot of raising money, what have you been doing . We have been organising, it started as me just putting a post on our pudsey runners Facebook Group and asking if anyone would join me in running seven miles, or seven kilometres or in walking seven miles wearing blue and amber and if they would be kind enough to make a donation and it hasjust really snowballed from there. We had such a wonderful response, some new people wa nt wonderful response, some new people want to get involved and now it has become known as the 747, so anyone canjoin in by doing a seven k run or walk or Seven Mile Run a walk and all we ask for is a small donation and that you wear blue and amber. Simon, i think one of the things thatis simon, i think one of the things that is really noticed about this story is that on the face of it, it isa story is that on the face of it, it is a story about a Rugby League Player, but not everyone follows by player, but not everyone follows rugby league and necessarily knows the clubs and the stories and the individuals, but this story has stepped away beyond that, hasnt it . It has become a story about a family, and a man and the challenges he is facing. You are absolutely right, charlie. Motor neurone disease affects many, many people. Many few people have been heard of, but the fact that rob has dealt with it so bravely and openly and the fa ct it so bravely and openly and the fact that people like katie it really encapsulates how are our entire Rugby League Family has come together and support one of our own. This is something we do, we have a charity called Rugby League Cares which really supports the families and other loved ones of people within our game who are suffering, but there has been something about robs fight against Motor Neurone Disease which has really captured the imagination of the public. I think you are bbc breakfast have done a great deal to help that and that was why here on our biggest flagship day of the season at wembley we wanted to make sure we did our part as a governing body to draw attention to the fight against murie to limit promoting youre in disease which is being suffered by thousands of people in the country. Fight thousands of people in the country. Fight against Motor Neurone Disease. That is why we have made available some perimeter boards which will put forward a text to give service so that people can make a donation watching the game on bbc one this afternoon to help to fund support for people who are suffering and Vital Research into the Motor Neurone Disease. Katie, obviously simon is fortunate enough to be one of the 50 people allowed at wembley today to the match and it is going today to the match and it is going to be today to the match and it is going to be i think the smallest crowd there has ever been there. Tell me about what the fans are doing in terms of continuitys contacting each other, supporting each other and revelling in this sporting event now . I think we all feel really sad that we cannot be there today and it is going to be really difficult, that we will all be shouting at the top of our voices from our own living rooms this afternoon and rest assured, giving all the support we can. We are just so excited and so grateful to be able to contribute and run in our club colours this morning and we just encourage as many people as possible to join morning and we just encourage as many people as possible tojoin in if they can. It is a free hit for you, right now, my queue isjust about to do the sport any time now, they got the game today, because at they got the game today, because at the heart of this is a big game. Big up the game. Im not sure simon could hear me there. Are you hearing me ok . I wasjust going to give you a free hit to pick up the match. Mite is just about to do the sport and is listening and right at the heart for what is going to be very emotional day, is also a game of by. Emotional day, is also a game of rugby. This will a historic game, historic because it is going to have the lowest attendance at Wembley Stadium that there has ever been, but this is the flagship day of the rugby league season. This is generally competing for the first trophy of the season, so be no asterisk next to the winners of this. One team will be lifting the champions cup trophy and because this is the 125th anniversary of our great game, people look back on this game in125 yourtime great game, people look back on this game in 125 your time and see which of these teams won the famous challenge cup trophy and say well i will one of be i will be one of the few people in the stadium, u nfortu nately the few people in the stadium, unfortunately there wont be the chance of the fans, but i think today will be the day that will live in the memory of anyone who watched it, whether they are in the stadium or watching it with you on bbc one this afternoon. Well sold, simon. Simonjohnson there chair of the Football League and katie, give as a wave, because i know you will be roaring at the telly. Chair of the rugby league. The crowds is one thing, but. It its huge, special anything about it, the salford fans, anyone under the age of 51 has not experienced that him getting to wembley. They are pinching themselves, they finally got there and you can watch it of course on the bbc, cant you . Bbc one. You can watch the challenge cup final between leeds rhinos and salford live on bbc one from 1. A5. Ahead of that, from quarter past one therell be a re run of the documentary produced by bbc breakfast and bbc sport called rob burrow my year with mnd. As well as being an emotional watch, it is inspirational. Theres also a huge final in rugby union today as the exeter chiefs face racing 92 for the european champions cup the biggest prize in the club game. Before this season exeter had never been past the quarter finals in the champions cup, but now theyre favourites to complete a remarkable rise to european glory having been promoted to the premiership a decade ago. And an exeter victory would make it an english double of european success following bristols win over toulon in the challenge cup last night. Toulon are one of the most successful clubs in european rugby, but they were beaten 32 19, by bristol, who were only promoted back to the top tier of english rugby two years ago. Max malins got the crucial second half score in the south of france and a thousand fans were allowed into this one to witness the celebrations. You couldnt have scripted a more dramatic return for the premier league, and scottish premiership, after the international matches. Two of the worlds most famous derbies, in glasgow, and liverpool, taking place at lunchtime. Celtic and rangers face each other in the old firm derby, while at goodison park everton and liverpool go head to head, with everton hoping for a first victory. Thats over champions liverpool in ten years. And for once everton, go into this derby top of the table with four wins out of four. It could also be a big weekend for Northern Irelandsjonathan rea, who could win a sixth world superbike title in a row, in portugal today. Rea leads the standings by 59 points and victory in the first of the weekends races at estoril today would not only secure another world title, but it would also see him record an unprecedented 100th race win in superbikes. Best of luck to him today. One positive outcome of the lockdown and covid 19 restrictions has been the rise in the number of people exploring the countryside and trying open air swimming, whether in lakes or rivers or outside pools. The new sport of Cross Country swimming combines this with a good old hike and whats more you can take all your stuff with you, even in the water. Ive been to the Lake District to take part in an organised Cross Country swim. I wandered lonely as a cloud. The reflections of the poet William Wordsworth, inspired by the stunning colours of the Lake District. And i wonder what he would have made of the amphibious adventure seekers now running the mountainside here . This is the sport that crosses hiking with swimming. I cant walk much further, and yet weve got to go to that mountain over there. And theres a lake in the way. So theres only one thing for it. Weve got to swim through it the whole point of it, really, is you start at point a, and you look at the map and theres water, and instead of Walking Around the water, how do we incorporate it into the journey . Come on, mike. Thisll get you fitter. Getting used to being like the tortoise with the stuff on my back. How did it all start, the sport . We started in london, running from north london to south london, with all the pools. The hampstead ponds, the serpentine. Then we came to places like this with the Lake District, just trying to sort of go from a to b, taking all your stuff with you. And thats the key to linking the land and water. Its causing local heads to turn as hikers arrive and pack up their stuff on inflatable rafts. First stage, blow it up, second stage, get all your stuff in the bag likejillies done, and then you strap them on. It took less time for the group to get their rafts ready than it did for me to win my fight with the wet suit. The hardier adventures didnt bother, as we all took a deep breath and took to chilly but Crystal Clear waters of rydal lake. My gosh, itsjust life changing for me. It clears your mind, its really good for my Mental Health. I actually thought that was amazing i didnt even feel it. And pressing on it, as well, gave me a lot of support. So you used it as a bit of a dinghy . Yeah i love being self supported and just to be able to be out in mountains all day. It means you have more freedom, because quite often when you go for a swim youve got to swim around and then youve got to come back. Because unlike a triathlon its not competitive, you dont have to worry about being left behind orjust pausing to admire the stunning scenery. And i could see why open water swimming has been on the increase since lockdown. Everyone was stuck inside for so long. So many new people taking to the water, seeing new people swimming outdoors, its a real endorphin rush. I used to do triathlons, but i just wanted to slow down. The whole landscape is not to be rushed through. Its the journey to be enjoyed, so enjoy it, not endure it. As exciting as it seems, though, you should never venture alone into lakes or rivers like this. Cold water shock can be dangerous, so its best at first to take part in organised activities with experts who know what theyre doing, and if you do, youll soon warm up on the next hike, with surprises around every corner. Some of the journeys last for days, with night stopovers. But i have to get back to the studio, leaving my fellow adventurers to feel inspired again by wordsworth. Beside the lake, beneath the trees, fluttering and dancing in the breeze. The wonderful words of wordsworth, i will leave you in a similar fashion, it is time for me to walk away and crack on with this day of rugby league and without fans it is not the same, but from whom you can enjoy the beautiful games. You are talented he really did go. It was beautifully delivered as well. Very nice. Keep that, you should publish that. I do not know how ben is going to follow it, that is a hard act to follow. Could you give us the weather in rhyming couplets . I wandered lonely as a cloud, that is about as far as it goes. If i had a bit of notice, who knows what i could have come up with . It is not looking to bad weather wise this weekend, some brightness around at the moment, but for many more it is a pretty grey and cloudy start the day, that is how it looks for a weather watcher in county down a short time ago. We can sun it up like this, mostly dry, but often pretty cloudy. This is the satellite picture, it shows we have cloud at the moment, you can see also some spots of rain here and there, but there are some decent breaks at the moment across scotland, parts of wales, and the midlands a sliver of brighter weather and we will continue to see more of the same through the day. Large areas of cloud but some break in the clarity and that allowing some spells of sunshine. If you showers towards the far south west and some very light and patchy rain across the far north of scotland. Temperatures today, no great shakes, between nine and 13 degrees. Through this evening and tonight large areas of cloud continue to filter down from the north. Some spots of rain and drizzle, some clear spells across the southern half of the uk, that could allow some mist and fog patches to develop. A fairly chilly at night as well, quite widely temperature is between five and 8 degrees, but if skies do stay clear for any length of time where you are, it could get that little bit colder. There we can do is mainly fine weather, courtesy of High Pressure which will still be this frontal system will thicken up the cloud and bring some patchy rain down across southern scotland and Northern England full stop equally seat some sunny spells are developing here and there. They went very light and that is why things are not changing very quickly and thatis are not changing very quickly and that is why things are calm and still at the moment, but there is temperatures tomorrow once again will struggle, particularly the further north you are, in shetland tomorrow, could be highs ofjust five or 6 degrees. Quite a big change to come as we head into next week. Low pressure to the south west, another low to the north west, a bit of a Pincer Movement which will turn things much more unsettled. First on monday we will see rain into Northern Ireland and scotland, pretty heavy rain at that. Dry out the further south and east you are across england and parts of wales as well. Brisk winds, but the wind is coming up from the south, so that is going to pull some milderair in our south, so that is going to pull some milder air in our direction, so its slightly different feel to the weather by monday, 12 to 15 degrees and we stick with that slightly mild theme as we head into tuesday and wednesday but with that, the price we have to pay is a lot of cloud, some outbreaks of rain and some brisk winds as well. More unsettled through the coming week. Pretty quiet weekend, if a rather cloudy one. Have a good weekend, that is all for me. That was pure poetry, ben, have a good weekend. The time is 9 50am. Were going to tell you a story now about someone who has found hope and positivity in the most difficult of circumstances caused by the pandemic. School teacher Caroline Coster had to have her hands and feet amputated after she developed an infection while recovering from coronavirus. That was back in march. Six months on, shes been back to the classroom to thank her pupils for all their support and to let them now that shes still smiling. Hi everyone hello it is so good to see you all again, i cannot believe how much you have all grown. The day they thought they might never see. Mrs they thought they might never see. M rs coster they thought they might never see. Mrs coster back in school, sharing how her life had been changed forever. I cannot just how her life had been changed forever. I cannotjust ignore it and pretend everything is all right, because that will not help me. Today, she thanked those he raised money to help make her new life easier to bear. When we had about the news it was shocking, because she taught me for two years and it was ve ry she taught me for two years and it was very emotional for us. Night is back she is back, it is wonderful to see herand back she is back, it is wonderful to see her and it back she is back, it is wonderful to see herand it is back she is back, it is wonderful to see her and it is amazing. Back she is back, it is wonderful to see herand it is amazing. A wonderful person, great personality and just wonderful all round. think more than anything it has been the message that have touched me, the message that have touched me, the outpouring of love, messages from children i talked 20 years ago, from children i talked 20 years ago, from staff, parents, grandparents. And a chance to demystify disability. By the time they made my second pair of legs, iwas disability. By the time they made my second pair of legs, i was wearing 12 socks. One of the things i did in hospital was made a conscious decision to look for the positive. You can with a look at something positively or negatively, so i have not got rest arthritis any more. Ive lost three stone, which i needed to do, great weight loss shame about the side effects, but it has its benefits. Im fitter now than i have ever been. While she will not return to teaching, her links to the school remain strong. Carolyn is a true inspiration and i am sure that anyone hearing the words of our children today will ta ke words of our children today will take that sense of inspiration away with them. Amazing, it is very brave and courageous, because it is life changing and you never would have thought it would happen to you. Changing and you never would have thought it would happen to youfl was strange seeing her today because you look so different, but she has the same at the same time. How much ofa the same at the same time. How much of a difference does it make, the support you have received from the school . I could not have done it without that support. I felt so touched by it, because i had not understood how much love there was for me there and i used to go back and read those messages when i was down and it really helped. It was incredible, its just down and it really helped. It was incredible, itsjust kept down and it really helped. It was incredible, its just kept me going. It was like a warm blanket of love. I have no hesitation in saying the fantastic mrs coster that is a remarkable story and the impact she would have had on those young people, previously, obviously as a teacher and now above and beyond being a teacher, a real inspiration. I loved it when one of the pupils said yes, she looks different but still the same, and that affection they have for her is immense. The new series of strictly come dancing starts tonight, taking over from another saturday night tvjuggernaut which had its grand finale last weekend britains got talent. The winner was a singing comedian called jon courtenay. Well talk to him in a moment but first lets see him in action. And it wont be long before these masks are gone we will be living life again to the maximum and well remember people like sircaptain tom and in years our kids will be reminiscing not about the big stuff that theyve been missing but that every day they got to play with dad and mum and we will remember that we were strong when mcdonalds was closed for so very long and britains talent will be that we all carry on. That is an uplifting message. And jon joins us now. You have had a busy week i imagine. Yes, i will never get bored of watching that, a completely out of body experience full stop im ok, thank you, life has been a bit hectic but good hectic. Tell me about it, what has been going on . Interviews, tv, this is still great and im not entirely used to it still, but it is great. The support ive got from friends, family and com plete ive got from friends, family and complete strangers, i am feeling incredibly love at the moment and getting all these messages from people ive never met, local town and area, it is amazing. We were warned there will be a lot of nutters out there, and they really have not been that many, so it has been great. Talk to us about your song, we got a little glimpse of it there, it was quite inspirational and some of the thought processes a lot of people are having at the moment about hardship in difficult times and how you carry on, personally, i think you have had a few things this week going on in and amongst the delight of celebrating the win. What can you tell us about that . Is going on at home . I understand that you felt not to wail immediately afterwards, is that right . I honestly think i just hit a wall a little bit, obviously during the whole process. In eight hours sleep a night man, that is what i need straight off otherwise i am grumpy and sleep our pattern was i was getting three or four hours and was getting three or four hours and was thinking of stuff and rewriting songs, so i think of when it was finally over i hit a wall and crashed for a couple of days, but im crashed for a couple of days, but im 0k crashed for a couple of days, but im ok and fine now. Crashed for a couple of days, but im ok and fine now. That is good, i understand the family are very, very proud of what you have done, how has that been . It has been amazing. My kids arejust that been . It has been amazing. My kids are just buzzing still. My youngest asked me to take me to school on the monday money so he could show off a little and my youngest is home schooled, so we didnt get to show off much, but my mum was over the moon and she was the first person i called in on as soon as i got him from london and i made a joke on the show hoping that she was still breathing because i know how anxious she gets, she is fine. All good to hear. You have won £250,000, a spot on the royal variety show as well, what is your plan . We had the production meeting just the other day and that was again one of their surreal moments we re again one of their surreal moments were chatting to one of the incredible people who produce that chose for years and talk about what is going on and it played in the idea i had and theyre really happy with it, im not giving everything away, but it is based on what i woke up away, but it is based on what i woke up thinking about that morning of the show, that idea stuck. I am writing the rest of it and some ideas ive got for it, it is such an opportunity and it is going to be the pinnacle of notjust my career, but my life i think. I have been a fan of the royal variety show since i was as young as i can remember, used to watch it with my parents, so the fact im going to be on it has blown my mind. Has been lovely as. I have seen you perform once or twice and there is a lovely modesty about you and that shone right through, constantly surprised at how it was all going, lovely to see. Good luck in the next few weeks, months and years ahead, im sure it will go brilliantly. Thank you very much. That is it from breakfast today. Goodbye.
