Over a year since his last grand slam match but andy murray is back, winning on the big stage as he pulls off a stunning comeback at the us open. And former spin doctor Alastair Campbell and his wife fiona speak to breakfast about living with severe depression. A weatherfront is coming in from the west, bringing thickening cloud and heavy rain at times. Whether it it will have blustery winds. All the details in about 27 minutes. Good morning. Its wednesday september 2. Our top story the Scottish Government has announced a two week quarantine rule for people arriving home from greece. The restrictions will come into force tomorrow morning. It comes as travellers arriving back into wales from the greek island of zante are told to self isolate for fourteen days after a rise in coronavirus cases there. The measures raise fresh questions over the future of holidays abroad. Greg mckenzie reports. Last week at least 16 people tested positive for covid i9 after arriving back to cardiff from the greek island of za nte. Back to cardiff from the greek island of zante. Some on that tui flight island of zante. Some on that tui flight including staff had been accused of not adhering to safety precautions. Customers know that they should be Wearing Masks on board. It is the responsibility to do so. Our crew train and enforce that but it is a difficult thing to enforce, particularly in an aircraft way you are not in the cabin as much as he used to be before. It has led to the travel firm tui to stop offering holidays to the resort of luganos on zante. The Health Minister says there are currently six compasses of cases amounting to 13 new infections linked to flights from greece. But he claims they have related not only in wales but also in scotland and england too. Last night the Scottish Government imposed a 1k day quarantine restriction for anyone returning to scotla nd restriction for anyone returning to scotland from greece as of tomorrow morning. It is spreading again particularly in these three areas. And we believe that in these areas it is spreading primarily as a result of household gatherings. Ministers say the move comes due to a significant rise in covid 19 cases being brought into scotland from people who have been to greece. The uk government is now facing mounting pressure from the welsh Health Minister to reimpose quarantine rules for greece but the department for transport says no changes to its rules have been made. It is understood the uk government is considering putting portugal on the quarantine list for all four nations. That is england, scotland, wales, Northern Ireland, after cases this week went over 20 per 100,000 people, which is the markerfor introducing quarantine measures. Were joined now by our Political Correspondent iain watson. Just watching out this morning, you know, there are these differing rules. Is there a sense that england may have to change its rules as well . About greece specifically. They will be looking at the latest advice today. They have been pressure from there was government to have that meeting. What there was government are doing it simply saying to people coming back from the island of zante that they should quarantine for 1h days. But they are also doing Something Else, which i think is interesting, which is offering tests for the virus, then further tests after eight days. There seem quarantine for 1h days of the moment. There has been a lot of speculation about ways to reduce the length of time people spending quarantine, and perhaps if they get to tests, as other countries do, then perhaps further down the ladder quarantine regime might be loosened a little. But it is also going the other direction, with scotland imposing quarantine on greece. They say theyre worried the greek islands, the whole country, from tomorrow morning. You will have to quarantine for 1h days. And there is speculation that logical, recently taken off the quarantine list, make it back on it, because infections there have now gone beyond this crucialfigure of 20 there have now gone beyond this crucial figure of 20 per there have now gone beyond this crucialfigure of 20 per 100,000. But other things are considered as well, including the speed at which infections go up, the trajectory of infections, and it is possible that two more countries uk wide could be added to the quarantine list by the end of the week. If they are travelling, people should watch the news carefully. New restrictions are being imposed in glasgow as well . That is right. It is the uks Third Largest city and they will face new restrictions as of this morning. The reason for that is that in glasgow the number of infections has now reached 22 per 100 100,000. It is responsible for nearly half the new cases in scotland. Schools and businesses will remain open but people are no longer expected to meet other households inside their own home. You can still meet outside but not inside. They will affect notjust glasgow but neighbouring areas. Thank you. From today, more than a Million People in parts of Greater Manchester, lancashire and West Yorkshire will have some lockdown restrictions eased despite opposition from some councils. Members of two households will be able to meet again in their own homes and gardens, but councillors have criticised the government, accusing them of ignoring advice from Health Officials and lifting the measures too soon. Thousands of pupils in england and wales will return to school today after months away from the classroom because of coronavirus. The start of the new term is being staggered in many areas as schools prepare to welcome students back safely. 0ur education correspondent dan johnson reports. The nerves of starting a new school meet the concerns of coming back for the First Time Since march. Meet the concerns of coming back for the First Time Since marchlj meet the concerns of coming back for the First Time Since march. I dont mind online learning, it isjust that i got sick of it. I have been doing it for what, three months . When were out. Then another three months i will not be able to see anyone, really. I just months i will not be able to see anyone, really. Ijust want to get back. I havent put my uniform on for six months, so didnt fit, most of it, as i had to get a whole new uniform. Distanced corridors need to reorganise classrooms and protective bubbles will keep you groups apart. The squirt of sanitiser will be more frequent than the bell. Students have staggered breaks, stagnant lunch, in terms of cleaning as well, we had to get extra cleaners into the building in the course of the day. But one thing we know for sure is the longer they stay out of the classroom, without working with students, the more disadvantages they begun. Become. Does that mean everything will run smoothly . No. We will have some forms and challenges here and there, but we will work through that and the bottom line will be ensure that stu d e nts bottom line will be ensure that students and staff are safe. You have all been given advises that you need to put those on when you are supporting. There are plans for dealing with cases and responding to outbreaks. But none of this has been tested. The bubble gives you together and save but as soon as the children go out of school and can meet whoever they want, with that it is flawed. I think it is as safe as it can be. I think it is probably safer than the local supermarket. The other priority is working out how much learning is being lost helping every child catch up. 1a people are going on trial in paris today over the attack on the satirical weekly magazine charlie hebdo. They are accused of helping the islamist gunmen who killed 12 people in january 2015. A third gunman also shot dead a policewoman and attacked a jewish supermarket. Following the incident people took part in solidarity marches in france and around the world. President trump has visited the city of kenosha in wisconsin after a week of violent clashes following the shooting of a black man, jacob blake, by a Police Officer last month. Mr trump did not visit mr blake or his family, and condemned the unrest as domestic terrorism. There incident led to antiracism process in the city and across the country. I do one person who is keen to talk about this. Line of duty. The creatorjed mercurio tweeted a picture of the cast and crew back on set yesterday. Continue excitement everybody. Contain your excitement. Filming for the show had to be put on hold for six months when lockdown restrictions were first introduced. Actor martin compston, who plays ds steve arnott also tweeted saying hes buzzing to be back. Areas. That is the screenshot he sent through. When will it actually be back . Yes, it. I dont know if it is the next year or thereafter, but everything will take a long time. There will be repeats on the television for quite some time. Time. There will be repeats on the television for quite some timelj will have to watch it all over again to understand it anyway. Will have to watch it all over again to understand it anywaylj will have to watch it all over again to understand it anyway. I got my pa rents to understand it anyway. I got my parents into it, which is a huge and significant moment for them. And my father rang me and said it is quite good, isnt it . Did he said in a voice . He said i love the line of duty. It is 11 minutes past six. For some children in england and wales this week will be the first time in six months that they step into a classroom but how different will their school day be . Staggered start times and one way systems are just some of the measures being put in place. 0ur education correspondent dan johnson is at a secondary school in nottinghamshire that is welcoming pupils back today. Good morning. Were getting used to empty schools, but that wont be for long . No, absolutely. A big day for everyone , long . No, absolutely. A big day for everyone, not just long . No, absolutely. A big day for everyone, notjust the long . No, absolutely. A big day for everyone, not just the year 7s, long . No, absolutely. A big day for everyone, notjust the year 7s, and this is a big school. About 1500 kids will arrive and they will have to come from different entrances to the school. This is key, keeping you groups apart, different bubbles. Coming through this entrance you can see that had a big part of everyone arriving in school. But the key thing is to keep the year groups, and here they will be 300 kids, in separate parts of the school. There will be corridors allocated to different you groups. You can see markings to keep people apart. The word is to keep on the left so they are passing without coming into too much contact. There will be staggered start times for breaks and lunches to stop mixing. If you come into the classroom, you can see how the furniture has been rearranged. These would normally be in groups of four with kids facing each other. Now it is more a case of rose sitting alongside each other. And you can see more hands sanitiser they are on the way in for every kid to disinfect everything. Lets have a chat with the principal here at 0utlet academy. You been preparing . A lot of hard work from staff, you know, within the school, trying to make sure that we have put everything in place that we could to keep staff and students say. A lot of work has gone on in the background but we are excited that it has all come together and we are ready to welcome students back in today. You are excited. Are you nervous . No, i think it is today. You are excited. Are you nervous . No, ithink it is about time that the students get back into building. We have missed them and they miss us. We cannot afford for them to be out of school. Were looking forward to welcoming them this morning. How strange will it be . How different do school life . Lot of difference for the older students, but for those in year 7 they will not know any different because this will be the first time in the school. The new normal will be their normal so i dont think that they will know anything different from, you know, what was before. Talk to me about the risk of further disruption. If there are outbreaks in the area or cases in the school . We have a plan in place. The plan we have in place means that we have managed to get in touch with parents to find out more, what technology they have at home, so that anything arises, we believe we will be able to deliver that and a quality education to all our students. Talk about catching up on everything that has been lost. It is huge challenge, isnt it . Making sure students get back to the right level. Right from your seven all the way through. That Transition Programme we had did not even take place. That was all disrupted. So in terms of, we did a lot of remote transition, but, however, we believe that we have the plans in place, not just for the academic side of things, but also for the emotional side of things. Because we know the families and students have been through some difficult times and it is important that we get them back into the right frame of mind before we think about anything academic. Absolutely. We wish you the best today. As huge day for millions of kids, some of them returning to school for the first time in six months. Father is an entirely new express avenue school. A strange day for everyone and a tough day for everyone. So much to get used to in new straits times. A shadow to the teachers who have done it so hard getting everything ready, but today, the focus can be on the kids again. Absolutely. Thank you. Lets take a look at todays papers. Theres a Record Number of young people claiming benefits, according to the telegraph. The paper says the number of under 25s on universal credit almost doubled during lockdown. 0nline, the herald in scotland says the reintroduction of lockdown restrictions in glasgow has been met with a mixed response, with some residents saying theyre confused by some of the rules banning different households from meeting. The guardian claims the government was warned about serious flaws in the algorithm used to grade this yea rs a level results two weeks before they were published. Criticism of the system led to a u turn that gave students their teacher assessed grades instead. And the daily mail says getting children back to school is a step back to normality, but the picture of a quiet paddington station in london suggests many workers are still staying away from the office. Some interesting stories on the back pages today. I know cat will mention andy murray. Touch point down, two sets down and he comes back to when. And everybody is loving that headline, including his mother because it is a remarkable recovery. He was always worried about whether he could play again at the top level so that is a huge boost to him and eve ryo ne so that is a huge boost to him and everyone supports him. The inside pages. This is the telegraph. Carol mentioned yesterday about the storm names. The choice of names, for the next year storms has been ridiculed after welsh speakers pointed out that one of them translates to sun blessed. 0ne that one of them translates to sun blessed. One of the storms, one of the 21 names for the strong weather systems announced is a well known name for girls systems announced is a well known name forgirls in systems announced is a well known name for girls in wales but the literal meaning is sun blessed or sunshine which prompted amusement over its selection. And Stephen Hendry is coming back to snooker. The seven time World Champion who has been retired for eight years. Convinced him that he will come back so he has and two year exemption and idid so he has and two year exemption and i did enjoy this story. How is your broadband is to mark it depends on who is using it. Did you know that the uk is 47 on the list of Broadband Speed around the world which averages at 37. 8 mb per second. Top of the list is lichtenstein, 229 megabytes per second. Jersey gibraltar luxembourg are in the top five and we are far behind some finish islands in the middle of the baltic sea. The issue is that we did not install the right ca bles is that we did not install the right cables at the right time to to give you an idea, south sudan is at the bottom of the list with 0. 85 mb a second. So if you were down loading a movie in lichtenstein, it would ta ke a movie in lichtenstein, it would take under a minute but in south sudan it would take 19 hours and 31 minutes. I genuinely do not believe that we are about to talk about the next subject. But we both saw the headline and thought it was too much. 114 days to go so it is time to talk about christmas. It is not the time to talk about christmas. This is what nina is doing today. This is what nina is doing today. This is what nina is doing today. This is the week that mince pies go into the shop but lets blame nina if people want to know why we are talking about christmas. It is never ever too early to talk about christmas for me. Welcome to this warehouse near liverpool where it is christmas 365 days of the year. I want to move in, it is so festive. They make festive decorations for celebrities, people such as the osbornes and stephen spielberg. Also for premiership footballers. Why are we talking about it today . This week, sainsburys and as the launch their christmas ranges but, also already, some on time retailers such asjohn lewis have already launched their christmas range and they have seen a threefold increase in christmas interest from consumers. Goodness knows we do need something to look forward to so are you feeling that early festive frivolity or a little bit via humbug . Not at all. Now that you mentioned it. I dont do my shopping until november. Christmas should start in december instead, december one because it should not be in summer. I know a lot of people hate the idea that christmas is in september but i look forward to it. I have started to listen to Christmas Carols in the car and it isa Christmas Carols in the car and it is a big part of the Church Calendar as well. We missed easter so it is great that christmas is around the corner. I cant wait. Ring it on. For the eu could not see your family as much as you could have so i would say, yeah. I think it will be sad for many people because they have lost so many loved ones and get togethers, this ongoing situation all the time, we dont know if the virus will escalate or decrease. Shopping will not be the same. But there will be an air of excitement because they will be something to look forward to at the end of the year as well. Something to look forward to at the end of the year as welllj something to look forward to at the end of the year as well. I love that fellow who said he is already playing Christmas Carols. And it is true. Were all looking forward something good so lets find out a bit from one of the experts city here he is. What a surprise. Can i ask you a couple of questions, you sell all of these decorations. Have you seen changes sell all of these decorations. Have you seen changes in behaviour when it comes to people planning ahead for christmas . Presumably things are a little bit later. They are indeed and there has been a shift in buying trends so normally we would be busy with enquiries in march april and may. 0nce with enquiries in march april and may. Once we came out of the lock down a few weeks ago there has been an onslaught of enquiries and people showing interest. And that is from people for personal interest for the house, to decorate their home. That has come earlier than usual . It has and we are surprised yet grateful at the same time. We have been probably dean enquiries a day from residential homeowners you said there had been a shift with retailers. Tell me about that. There has. Normally retailers would plan christmas around march or april but because of the lockdown and since emerging from down it has been chaotic with people now making decisions and wanting to talk to us about christmas. Do you think some retailers are thinking lets go big because people have been missing out for so long or do they think that maybe people are edgy about coming into a store so lets bring it in a little. The way it works is that 6096 of british nurses make 80 of their annual profit at christmas time and the important thing is that if you do not make it through this christmas after the covid 19 situation, you are in big trouble. So we do see retailers and general businesses going one of two ways. They either go big or they cut back. Either way, christmas has never been cancelled. But it is unpredictable at the moment because some retailers are looking at the pent up spend but we dont know quite how hard this recession that we are emerging from will bite and how manyjobs it will claim. The thing is nobody knows the a nswer to claim. The thing is nobody knows the answer to that question and it is a will difficult situation. Thankfully most people do like christmas and we see a massive influx in enquiry, albeit very late in the day. It is not for everyone and we do appreciate this and we expect many e mails coming in but it is a crucial time for retail. About one quarter of the cash that comes into high Street Stores comes in over the festive period, the golden quarter they call it. So many are keeping their fingers crossed because they call it. So many are keeping theirfingers crossed because it they call it. So many are keeping their fingers crossed because it is make or break time for many of them. What we do enjoy about this, even though it is much too early for christmas is that you clearly love it. Sorry . We think it is too early for christmas but you clearly. Look at these animals honestly, louise, i love christmas so much i cannot even tell you. Look at these guys stop it, stop it. Grace dent saw this piece on breakfast this morning and her response is to simply say dancing through the. No 0h, simply say dancing through the. No oh, no we will be with nina throughout the morning and if you are celebrating, if you are looking forward to christmas, get in touch because. For once we agree on something. Not convinced. September two. You wake up convinced. September two. You wake up and a bit leery died and you turn on bbc breakfast you would wonder what on earth was happening, had you missed three months . We will have much more on that later. It is 625. President trump has visited the city of kenosha in wisconsin, following days of violent clashes after a black man jacob blake was shot by police. He called the unrest domestic terror and expressed his support for the local police. 0pponents have dismissed the trip as an election stunt. Were joined now by molly beck, from the milwaukeejournal sentinal. Good morning and thank you very much for speaking to us, it is great to have you on this morning. You spent the day following the president , what was it like and what did he say . He got to kenosha at noon on tuesday and we quickly followed him to one of the buildings that had been destroyed in the unrest and the violence following the shooting of jacob blake in kenosha. We spoke to Business Owners and building owners who had lost property in fires and other destruction and then he held a round table with some Law Enforcement and local lawmakers and state lawmakers and congressmen here and he basically, hejust focused on the law and order message he has been trying to really underscore in the last few weeks of his campaign here and he. Basically the message of the day was that he was claiming victory for calming kenosha since the shooting. And there was quite a bit of attention on whether he would meet with the family of jacob blake. He did not. What was the response to that . He did not meet with them, he did not mention the family much at all aside from reporters asking him questions about the family. He did say that he heard that his mother, he wanted to talk to his mother but had not been able to do that and said that he thought she was a fine woman. He said that he expressed some regret about how jacob blake was doing and what he is going through but he did not make any concrete plans or mention any concrete plans or mention any concrete plans or mention any concrete plans about talking to the family. We know that wisconsin is a key seat for the republicans, won by a tight margin and there are those as we said in the introduction who see this as an election stunt. How is it being played out more widely across america. Democrats are obviously saying that this trip to kenosha was a photo opportunity, i see that a lot from the democratic side. You know, ithink the president s campaign would say that he is using this opportunity to show leadership and contrast himself with democratic governance. We have a democratic governance. We have a democratic governor in wisconsin and democratic mayors of cities that he often points out as having issues with unrest like this. But he did not mention, you know, the reason for the protest that had given way to this destruction and these riots. He was asked to say whether or not he believed that systemic racism was a problem in the United States and he did not want to answer that today. Great to talk to you, and i am sure we will continue to follow the Election Campaign in america right up until november, a long way away. You are watching bbc breakfast, still to come after yesterdays exclusive interview with footballer Marcus Rashford, well meet the people who experience first hand the benefits of his Free School Meals campaign. Well be discussing that shortly and bringing you the latest news. Louise has also conducted a fascinating interview with Alistair Campbell and this partner, fiona, about living with severe depression and its impact on families. It is honest and i think everyone should be interested to see it. And looking at this picture from carol, there is trouble ahead. Good morning everybody. We are looking at a fair bit of cloud today with the weather front coming our way and we also have some rain as well. That is more or less the forecast for today. Some of that rain will be heavy as it moves in, particularly across south west scotland, and the met 0ffice south west scotland, and the met office has a weather warning for heavy rain. 15 30 millimetres, roughly, in excess of an inch at the top level but in hillier levels we could see twice that. And this is why stop we have low pressure dominating the weather with various fronts bearing some rain. The second fronts bearing some rain. The second front following hot on the hills ringing some rain as well. After a relatively dry start and bright start for many, the is the only place where it is mild, there in the south east and wherever you see green and yellow in the chart, that is where the heavy bursts of rain coming in from the westar. There is a second front coming in right behind bringing more rain to Northern Ireland and that is these two weather fronts joint but we are likely to see the heaviest burst, hence that is why you have the yellow weather warning for rain. The white circles indicate sustained wind speed, most noticeably a windy day today particularly in the north. By day today particularly in the north. By the become further south in comparison but gusty wind dusting. 4045 comparison but gusty wind dusting. 40 45 mile an hour in the northern isles, in the inlet and, 40 45 mile an hour in the northern isles, in the inletand, in 40 45 mile an hour in the northern isles, in the inlet and, in the west, looking at 30 miles an hour so again beware of that. Through this evening and overnight our first weather front, this one evening and overnight our first weatherfront, this one here, continues to journey steadily towards the north sea, eventually clearing. The second one here is just moving across england and wales. Ahead of it, a fair bit of cloud, behind its cloud and showers. It will be a mild night with most of us staying in double figures. For tomorrow, well, we say goodbye to the first weather front completely and this one continues to slowly move southwards, still looking at the isobars which are tightly packed and you can tell it will be a windy day, quite brisk wind at that, especially in the north west. So the weather front continues to push down towards the south, taking its cloud and patchy rain by then with it and behind it some sunshine and some showers. Some of those showers blow in across western scotland and Northern Ireland and western parts of england and possibly wales as well on that brisk wind. Temperatures 15 22 so the temperature going up a touch but there is an no going to stay that way because on friday and overnight weather front move south has a wave in it so it starts to come back northwards bringing southern england and south wales and then through the day it starts to push towards the south east. 0n the other side of that, once again, sunshine and showers but some of the showers will be heavy, potentially thundery as well, especially across the north west. 13 degrees in the north, 19 degrees in the south. And we will have more later. This is breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. It is 6. 32. Well bring you all the latest news and sport in a moment, but also on breakfast this morning. Drumroll. We will reveal the latest strictly come dancing contestant competing for this years glitter ball trophy and theyll be making history the singer will young has written a book about learning to accept himself after struggling with his sexuality. Hejoins us before 9am. And the former government spin doctor Alastair Campbell and his partner fiona have spoken to breakfast about life with depression and supporting a loved one with their Mental Health. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. The Scottish Government has announced that anyone returning to the country from greece after 4am tomorrow morning will need to quarantine for two weeks. Ministers said they have taken the move due to a significant rise in cases. Anyone coming back to wales from the greek island of za nte coming back to wales from the greek island of zante is also being told to self isolate for 14 days. Restrictions have been brought into glasgow and surrounding areas, affecting hundreds of thousands of people. The rules mainly concerned visits to other households. They last for two weeks but we will reviewed after one week. Its a big day for many students in england and wales who are returning to school for the First Time Since march and for some there could be mixed emotions. Many have introduced staggered start times and always systems to keep staff and students safe. It is not clear how many parents intend to send their children back but it is compulsory in england. A group campaigning for victims of coronavirus have called Boris Johnson hustlers for not meeting with them. Borisjohnson said he would be willing to meet with members but later wrote to say he was unable to meet. So we have plenty coming your way throughout the day. We mentioned your interview with Alistair Campbell and kat has the support for us. Looking at andy murray and this incredible space as if you didnt see the result last night. We watching . I cant give it away. I want to hold that information. I didnt pull a all nighter. Do you remember when the us masters a few years ago, Danny Willett won the us masters, i didnt get much sleep that night, but it was a good evening. 6. 35 and a big day for many students in england and wales returning to school for the First Time Since march. There will be hand washing before and after school, bubbles, staggered school times, they are asking children over the age of 12 the web Face Coverings. My 9 year old has been wearing a Face Covering when were out and about and he is used to it. He is not bothered by it. He is happy to be leaving his mum are going to school, which is great, because he isjust missing his teachers, missing his class friends, and yes, i am terrible at homeschooling. I have actually spaced as i have always respected teachers, but massive respected teachers, but massive respected teachers and what they have been doing, because they have been working throughout the summer to prepare to get the children back safely. Your little boy had a transplant, so he has had to shield capacity . Yes, qasim had a liver transplant in 2016 and he is an issue of the group. But he has done really well. We worked out that he had over 19 back in february when i got over 19 from a pages. Covid 19. He recovered really well. From a patient. Children are great. Even though he had that he didnt go to hospital, he was poorly for four or five days and then took a week or so to for four or five days and then took a week or so to recover for four or five days and then took a week or so to recover from that and is up and about. Sol a week or so to recover from that and is up and about. So i spoke to his team at kings and they said if i am happy to send him to school, and he is ina am happy to send him to school, and he is in a small bubble, then why not . And im prepared to send him because really reassured by my school that he will be looked after well. Im sure there will be some mixed feelings this morning. 0ther pa rents mixed feelings this morning. 0ther parents could be nervous perhaps. What would you say to them . |j parents could be nervous perhaps. What would you say to them . I would this say please keep talking to the school. It is natural to be nervous. We have been, as doctors, as everybody in the media and the government, saying stay home, stay safe, dont go to school. When trying to reverse that decision quite quickly and try to reassure parents that you can send them to school. Lucky, from all the detail that we have, children only get it ina that we have, children only get it in a small number of cases. And we prepared a on. I think we have capacity now, particularly where i live, we dont have any patients in hospital at the moment with covid 19. Please be reassured and please keep talking to School Teachers because they will guide you in the right direction. Teachers because they will guide you in the right directionlj teachers because they will guide you in the right direction. I know Something Else that you have been looking at, and there is more information coming out about this, people have had coronavirus, and there are various terms of them, the effects, when your patients . there are various terms of them, the effects, when your patients . And it is is now septemberand in mid may or earlyjune. And it is is now september and i havent got my smile back. Some people have chronic fatigue, lung problem is afterwards, asian paints. There is a pa rt afterwards, asian paints. There is a part groups setup. Support groups. Therefore any other because theyre not getting support from gps, they have set up their own support. I am centred patients if you have symptoms please plug into them and get support. The uk sepsis trust is trying to provide as much information as possible and the application of the government brought out in regards to covid 19 symptoms, even if you have not had covid 19, if you are showing any of the symptoms for long periods of time, we need more information. There is a significant portion suffering for a long time. I think we will find out more and more coming to our doors into general practice. I hope that you get your sense of smell back. It is always a pleasure. I have my cup the other got smashed, didnt it . pleasure. I have my cup the other got smashed, didnt it . Ifeel like im part of the family. You are very lucky because we have not got caps at home. We only have them here. told you not to tell anyone that we value a month. That very top secret. Im going to show it off to everybody. If i ever have Anyone Around i take it out of the dishwasher. This is how strict we are with most, we cant recommend the studio. You are lucky to be able to touch one. I cant even drink anything. Now we get to eddie murray. He has been making headlines, hesitancy, cat . I thought there were only three cups in existence. Its been a long road back for andy murray. He broke down in tears at his last grand slam injanuary last year. Hip surgery followed and many thought his career was over but last night he was back on the big stage and once again showed his phenomenal mental strength, staging a remarkable comeback to beat japans Yoshihito Nishioka at the us open. Joe lynskey reports. Eddie murrays last grand slam was 20 months ago. Back then nobody thought that dennis could look so strange and sounds are empty. That make tennis. But after such a long way, murray had to dig deep to hang around. Yoshihito nishioka isjust five foot seven. He won the first two sets through his speed around the court. Eddie murrays body is still adjusting to majors. The pain look too much but then the fightback came. In the 34th day tie break tens set to winning it. Even in an empty stadium murray brings the role himself with the momentum he did the same again in a fourth set tie break. That meant a designer and quite the test for a resurfaced hit. Murray is still outside the world does make up 100 but his perseverance is does make up 100 but his perseverance is still there. Still, after four hours, he stayed in the set, then went for the win. after four hours, he stayed in the set, then went for the win. I dont know how many of us actually, you know, believe that i would be back kind of, you know, winning matches like that. So yes, it was emotional after the match finished for sure. Even by murrays standards this win was extraordinary. 20 months ago he left the grand slam in tears. Now, the humanity support, everything has changed. For him and the sport. Well where a sleepless night. Well worth. That was followed up by a win for the british number one dan evans. He beat brazilian youngster thaigo seyboth wild in straight sets meaning there will be four british men in the second round of the event for the First Time Since 1974. Kyle edmund and Cameron Norrie the others who play today. And one british woman was guaranteed to go through because Johanna Konta took on heather watson. The first set was a real battle, but konta, whos the ninth seed, won the second 6 1. And Serena Williamss quest for a record equalling 24th grand slam singles title got underway with a straight sets victory over fellow american kristie ahn. You can see all the results on the bbc sport website. Well, if andy murrays comeback wasnt enough dramatic sport for you last night, at old trafford there was a gripping finale to englands twenty20 series with pakistan. The tourists set an imposing target of 191. Mohammad hafeez here top scored with 86 while teenage debutant haider ali added 51. England though looked to be chasing well with moeen ali putting on a brilliant batting display. But they needed six off the final ball and couldnt do it, falling just short, meaning the series ends in a 1 1 draw. Obviously very disappointed. I mean, do not get us over the line, disappointed with that. It doesnt feel the same when you dont win. But, you know, it was nice to come off today after a while and it was just more of a mindset thing. So plenty of great sport about last night, but apologies to the english cricketers. If any murray is in a five setter, i am there. Lots of other people as well. Thank you,. Scottish holidaymakers in greece will have to isolate for 14 days if they return home after 4am tomorrow. We arejoined by we are joined by two travellers at home in glasgow. Most is beating on the programme. What has happened . Have you cancelled . The programme. What has happened . Have you cancelled . Not yet, dan. I think since we heard the news last night and sort of read about it on the bbc website, actually, i suppose we are kind of going to get in touch with the airline and see what the options might be. So at this point in time we dont really know yet. And mary what was it like when you first heard the news . I imagine having had this holiday booked you would probably be looking quite carefully, havent you, at the rate of infection in greece. Yes, i meant we had been keeping an eye over the la st we had been keeping an eye over the last couple of weeks. And we knew it had gone up, the figures were coming down and it was well below the 20s. So naturally we thought that we would be ok. So yes, devastated. Especially after last five months, you are desperate to get a break, and. Iwas you are desperate to get a break, and. I was speaking to jason leach, who we will speak to later on, who is the man behind his decisions in scotland. And he said if you weeks ago that any holiday at the moment is a rest. But a risk that you are willing to take, obviously. Do you think this decision has been made too early . Probably yes. I think that from what i understand, you know, ithink probably yes. I think that from what i understand, you know, i think that this has been driven by, you know, infections that seem to have been picked up by tourists coming back into cardiff and glasgow, i think. So space is an ep to be coming from specific sources, such as zante and mykonos. I think the point of view has been that the south has been relatively unaffected and in terms of any risk for us, the risk is really about the flight itself, really, and our ultimate destination, which is another island off the coast of roads, with a population of 350 people. Rhodes. It is not with the savers you can probably the safest ways you can be right now. But we get the risks involved. Well put some of your points to jason leach this morning. I hope you get to have a break somewhere and you manage to get away after, like many of us, a long time stuck in the uk. Thank you for speaking to us this morning. Stuart and mary gilmore. Simon calder, the travel editor for the independentjoins us now from heathrow airport. Is this a confusing picture for people now in regards to greece . Is this a confusing picture for people now in regards to greece7m is extraordinary. Yesterday afternoon i was ensuring people, i looked at the number and what the uk government said its criteria are and i would be happy to book a trip to greece any time for rest of september. However, what we have seen september. However, what we have seenin september. However, what we have seen in this extraordinarily complicated game is that the goalposts have moved and the rules have changed. And so we have to scotland, in response to some serious out rags on the island of za nte serious out rags on the island of zante saying serious out rags on the island of za nte saying ok, serious out rags on the island of zante saying ok, all of greece is now on our no go list but at the same time wales last night said ok, anyone coming back from the island of za nte, anyone coming back from the island of zante, you will be quarantining for two weeks and that happened while the flight from zante to cardiff was in midair. Meanwhile if you are in england or Northern Ireland, nothing has yet changed but everything could change because on thursday evening, that is normally when the department of transport says ok, these countries are now on the no go list. Says ok, these countries are now on the nogo list. Also, we spoke about yesterday about portugal as well because that seems to be possibly the other one under consideration. Yes. Portugal increasingly looks as if there is going to be a ban from right across the uk. The foreign office will say that we advise all but essential travel because it is a high risk destination and at the same time you are going to find that the quarantining is imposed. That is certainly not certain yet and many people are saying but, actually, the number of daily cases is declining and has been for the last four days and has been for the last four days and there is hardly any in melbourne where the vast majority of holidaymakers. But with the British Ambassador to lisbon presumably with official sanction or actual encouragement saying that you really do need to be careful about booking any holiday these days, it does look as though the rush could be on and certainly looking at availability for flights certainly looking at availability forflights coming certainly looking at availability for flights coming here to certainly looking at availability forflights coming here to london or anywhere else in the uk, very high prices. One seat left on one easyjet flight prices. One seat left on one easyjet flight for friday which will get you backin flight for friday which will get you back in time, £424. My goodness. Quite a lot of difficulties for people trying to return. We will be looking at this issue throughout the morning and speaking to the uk government about that at around 7. 30 this morning. Another issue we are looking at is school return. As pupils return to school in england and wales this week, its notjust inside the classroom where measures are being put in place to ensure they are kept safe. Breakfasts john maguire is at a bus depot where they are getting ready to collect children on their way to school. Mask in hand and ready to go. Morning, john. Good morning. This is problem in the cotswolds. They will ta ke problem in the cotswolds. They will take around 3000 children to school over the next few days. It is a slow progression, mainly year7 over the next few days. It is a slow progression, mainly year 7 pupils today but they will build up through the week. Im just going to put my mask on as we go on board. I will give you a talk through and show you exactly how things are being organised by Bus Companies across the uk. There are spare masks that have been provided by the local Authority Just in case have been provided by the local authorityjust in case children forget them. These seats behind the driver have been blocked off and then as we come up above and out the coach can see signs on the walls that show the children where to sit so they will be in their year groups. That helps them maintain those vital bubbles that we heard so much about. Good morning to catherine here. A logistical challenge, i imagine anyway getting through 1000 children to school and back home again every day. Of course there are extra layers of things to think about. What are you doing . We have spent the last six months getting ready for this day and we have been practising the procedures we have had in place because we have transported key worker children and Vulnerable Children through the whole of this year. Into schools across four or five different counties. So we are well practised at this. We have extensive risk assessment in place with protocols for drivers and for children and we put together a document for parents, just a two sided document which is not too owner is, just to understand what rules we have, to make it safe for children and staff. And cleaning will be paramount . Absolutely. At the end of the Morning School run the end of the Morning School run the drivers will make sure that all of the touch points are sanitised, all these handles, any seatbelts and the clip here and the arm rests. They will all be sanitised and made sure that they are clean and ready for the Afternoon School run. At the end of the day they will make sure that the vehicle is thoroughly cleaned, mop and sweat and fully fogged with an antiviral solution to ensure that all of the surfaces including the upholstery on the ledgers have been sanitised and ready for the next morning full of that will be a daily process. Thank you very much, best of luck to you and your staff for the today and the weeks ahead. That is a good idea of yet again what people have to do to try and return children to school. Asi try and return children to school. As i say it will be a gradual buildup over the next few days. Scottish children have been back for a while and they have been through this process already. Later in the programme we will be at a bus stop to talk to parents and Young Children and see what their thoughts are about getting back to school and doing so safely and with confidence. Thank you very much and we shall be back with you later. Alastair campbell, the former government spin doctor, has spoken openly about his struggles with his Mental Health in the past now hes written a book about the impact its had on him and his family. Ive been speaking to alastair and his partner fiona millar, who told me about the pressures of supporting someone living with depression. Lets talk a little about where you are now because you have a scale, dont you, in your head of 1 10. What is one and what is tenant . One is delirious and the world is just absolutely wonderful and everything ido absolutely wonderful and everything i do will be brilliant and nine is the maximum i allow in my head on the maximum i allow in my head on the other side because that is when iamso the other side because that is when i am so depressed i can barely move or speak. Where are you today . When i woke or speak. Where are you today . When iwoke up or speak. Where are you today . When i woke up this morning i was probably about four. That is ok. That is stable. I like three. Three is when i am not crazy but i have energy and i like having energy. Which one do you like, fiona . 3 four is good to live with. He is very entertaining and it is difficult to live with him but never boring. That is true. There are a lwa ys boring. That is true. There are always a lot of challenges and it is never done. About fiona you say she is not someone who flexed when the going gets tough and it is clear that your relationship has been absolutely key throughout your whole recovery as well. In a way i have been so close that i feel she is like my arm or my leg and if it doesnt work i go a little haywire. So your relationship is not working . Yes. Or if i feel that fiona is not supportive or disapproving or whatever it may be it feels like a personal blow and i think in the past whenever i have been depressed, for years, when i was hiding it through drink or work orjust denial which so many of us do, i definitely took it out on fiona because i felt she was the only person i felt i could really be depressed with. Everyone else, i had to pretend. And isnt that tough on you fiona . Not only on me but thousands of others who go through this right now. They are the invisible heroes of this Mental Health thing whereas if you have counselling, people can be overtly sympathetic and can be talked about but i think it is too hidden. Lets take you back to the beginning because both your brothers had serious issues. Yes and they both died at 62. Which was my age when i wrote the book and i am 63 now so i made it through. My older brother, donald, was in the army and was in the middle of the army with schizophrenia which was when i started to become interested in Mental Illness because we knew nothing about schizophrenia. And my second brother, graham, was, i think, i shared a bedroom with him for most of our childhood, he had a lot of the same issues that i did but never really acknowledged them. Through the family, through my side of the family in particular i think there are these stories that keep coming up and, you know, you need to confront them. You are honest in the book and talk about what it is like living with it and also, you know, a particular moment when you had a proper break down. This is a long time now, did you sense that coming now . Absolutely but i was 26 years old and can remember thinking he is having a nervous breakdown. I did not know anything about a nervous breakdown and i phoned the guy he was working for at the moment and i saidi was working for at the moment and i said i think alistair is having a nervous break down and he just brushed it aside and made me feel stupid. So i thought 0k, brushed it aside and made me feel stupid. So i thought ok, i am wrong and he must be right in three weeks later he had a massive nervous breakdown. I like to think that today things would be different and an employer would take that more seriously and listen to the concerns of the Family Member who is raising a serious concern. It is something to phone his boss. And it took courage on my part because i was a minion in fleet street in those days. From your point of view and i know you talk about it, didnt you feel on occasion that this was your fault in some way . All the time. I blame myself. For 30 years i thought it mustve been something i was doing wrong so then i to get miserable about it. Eventually i realised it was not me but it was a manipulation going on with the blame was being transferred to me and i still cant explain it but i now know not to absorb it in the same way and i need to pull myself back and say he is going through this experience and i am doing my but dont take the blame for it yourself. Clearly you have an extraordinarily strong relationship, also within your family as well. Is ita also within your family as well. Is it a message of optimism, do you think, that someone like alistair who has had very serious difficulties can live with this thing called depression and it can be ok . I dont want to blow my own trump but i do feel in a way he chose me because he knew somewhere there was a resilient person who was going to be able to support him through this thing. going to be able to support him through this thing. I chose you because you had a car. Oh, thats right. But i do think. The rule of the partner in the support around you is important and at times of real crisis i was able to hang in there and real crisis i was able to hang in there and i know other friends have contact with me to say they left their partner because they could not cope anymore. I know how that feels because i thought about it but i did not do it and in the end i am glad i did not because in the end we have built something strong, but it is not easy. Thank you both for being so honest and the book is brutally honest. I am sure it will resonate with many people. So many things struck me, particularly fiona talking about the families, the invisible heroes affected by all of this. Alastair campbells new book is called living better how i learned to survive depression. Details of organisations offering Mental Health information and support are available at bbc. Co. Uk actionline. Shall we catch up now with the weather . Today, a band of rain moving in from the west and really, really windy. Low pressure is in charge of our weather once again. Here is the band i was talking about but there is a second one coming in behind that, to, will bring in some rain. Some of us are starting off with a dry note with some sunshine or some bright spells and then in comes the rain from the west. When you see greens and yellows, that is heavy bursts. Anna moves towards the east with a second front coming in bringing more rain into Northern Ireland. Wins today will be fairly gusty. Particularly in the north west but with exposure to North Western areas as well. In the north west, gusts is 4045 as well. In the north west, gusts is 40 45 mph. Temperature wise today, 15 in the north to 20 in the south. The headlines are coming up next. Good morning welcome to breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Our headlines today wales and scotland introduce new quarantine rules for greece amid concerns about rising coronavirus cases. Nearly a Million People will be affected by new restrictions in glasgow and surrounding areas after infections increase just as rules in Greater Manchester are eased. After almost six months at home, many children in england and wales are returning to the classroom. Another incredible come back from andy murray. The man with a metal hit comes back from two sets down at the us open. Its wednesday 2nd september. Our top story the Scottish Government has announced a two week quarantine rule for people arriving home from greece. The restrictions will come into force tomorrow morning. It comes as travellers arriving back into wales from the greek island of zante are told to self isolate for 14 days after a rise in coronavirus cases there. The uk government will be meeting with the devolved administrations today to discuss more quarantine rules. Greg mckenzie reports. Last week, at least 16 people tested positive for covid 19 after arriving back to cardiff from the greek island of zante. Some on that tui flight including staff had been accused of not adhering to safety precautions. Customers know that they should be Wearing Masks on board. It is their responsibility to do so. And our crew train and enforce that, but it is a difficult thing to enforce, particularly in an aircraft where you are not in the cabin as much as you used to be before. Again because of social distancing protocols with covid. It has led to the travel firm tui to stop offering holidays to the resort of laganos on zante, a popular destination for large groups of young people. The Health Minister says there are currently six clusters of cases, amounting to 13 new infections, linked to flights from greece. 30 new infections. But he claims they have related not only in wales but also in scotland and england too. Last night, the Scottish Government imposed a 14 day quarantine restriction for anyone returning to scotland from greece as of tomorrow morning. It is spreading again particularly in these three areas. And we believe that in these areas it is spreading primarily as a result of household gatherings. Ministers say the move comes due to a significant rise in covid 19 cases being brought into scotland from people who have been to greece. The uk government is now facing mounting pressure from the welsh Health Minister to reimpose quarantine rules for greece, but the department for transport says no changes to its rules have been made. Its understood the uk government is considering putting portugal back on the quarantine list for all four nations thats england, scotland, wales, Northern Ireland after cases this week went over 20 per 100,000 people, which is the marker for introducing quarantine measures. Restrictions have been brought in around glasgow and surrounding areas affecting hundreds of thousands of people. The rule mainly concern visits to other households. He will ask last for two weeks and be reviewed after one week to up letters a nd reviewed after one week to up letters and speak to katie hunter. What restrictions are in place, katie . There were 66 new cases in the local area. The Health Minister said this was a cause for concern. The new restrictions will affect about 800,000 people. We have been warned about indoor gathering and house parties in scotland for a couple of weeks after they were linked to a cluster of cases. These latest restrictions affect people in glasgow, west dunbartonshire. People wont be able to visit friends inside. Outdoor gatherings are still alive and people can visit people in restau ra nts a nd alive and people can visit people in restaurants and pubs and outside so this partial lockdown in glasgow is not as strict as the recent one we have seen in aberdeen. Also care home visits and hospital visits are being restricted to essential visits only. As you mentioned, we expect these to last for two weeks but they will be reviewed every seven days. Thousands of pupils will return to school today in england and wales following months away from the classroom because of coronavirus. Many schools have introduced one way systems and staggered start times to help keep staff and students safe. It is not clear how many parents are planning to send their children back, although attendance is compulsory in england. A two billion pound scheme aimed at helping young people into work is being launched by the government today. Under the kicksta rt initiative, employers will be able to offer people who are aged under 24 and on universal credit a work placement for six months, with the government helping to cover the funding. Our Political Correspondent iain watsonjoins us now from westminster. There has been a similar scheme, basically it is aimed at young people who may be at risk of long term unemployment. They will be eligible for this scheme. They want people to sign up for this, give them six point six month placements. There is no guarantee for a permanentjob at the end of the six month. Hopefully people will acquire skills but no guarantee for acquire skills but no guarantee for a permanentjob acquire skills but no guarantee for a permanent job and acquire skills but no guarantee for a permanentjob and also critics say with these jobs that have been created will these jobs with these jobs that have been created will thesejobs have been created will thesejobs have been created in any case . Or would older places Older Workers be tapped out. 17 year olds, for example who are in work, 6 of them are currently furloughed. You can see huge and implement problems down the line. This would delay that by six months but the hope is, as the economy recovers, people would be equipped to get into permanent work in due course. A group campaigning forfamilies who have lost loved ones to coronavirus has called the Prime Minister heartless after claiming he has refused to meet with them. Last week, borisjohnson had suggested he would be willing to talk to group members, but later he wrote to the group to say he was unable to meet them. Covid 19 bereaved families forjustice said it had already wrote to mrjohnson five times to request a meeting. President trump has visited the city of kenosha in wisconsin and condemned the violent clashes there as domestic terrorism. Mr trump did not meet the family ofjacob blake who was left paralysed after being shot by police last month. The incident led to anti racism protests in the city and across the country. Back to the country story of school returns. Thousands of children in england and wales will be stepping back in to the classroom today, some of them for the first time in six months, but how different will their school day be . Our reporter tomos morgan is at a Primary School in barry island for us this morning, but first lets join dan johnson who is at a secondary school in nottinghamshire. Good morning to you. Good morning. Millions of children are due back, some of them for the first time in six months, some of them going to explore the first time one is amy who is starting is seven, here with her parents david and jude. How are you feeling . I am really excited but nervous as well. You know what to expect . Not really sure yet. But i think it will be exciting. There are 1500 children here, a lot more than your Primary School, isnt it . In my yeargroup, 16, so your Primary School, isnt it . In my year group, 16, so yes a lot your Primary School, isnt it . In my year group, 16, so yes a lot of people here. Do yeargroup,16, so yes a lot of people here. Do you know what will keep you safe from the virus . Lots of to metre distance assigns and hand sanitiser stations and i think we will have to wear masks in the corridor so it will be very safe from the virus. Are you excited . Yes. How are you feeling, mum and dad . I think it is time and she is ready for it. It has been challenging doing homeschooling as well as working from home but yes, well as working from home but yes, we have done our best but were she is back. Are you happy for her to come back today . I think it is great because a starting secondary school isa because a starting secondary school is a big step so to try and start that online rather than being face to face would have been really difficult so we are really excited she is here and make new friends and meet the teachers. The confident in the measures in place and you know what happens if there are cases . think the school has done well in putting everything in place that they can. If there is an outbreak, were not sure what that will mean so were not sure what that will mean so they could be further disruption andl so they could be further disruption and i think it will be difficult to know whether it be the whole year group because it is a year bubble or what would happen if there was an outbreak so we hope they wont be further destruction but you dont know what is going to happen over the next two months. What you think about the way this has been handled . Do you think it is the right time for children to come back . Yes, it has been six months now since they have probably been out of school so i think it is the right time. Just get back and see how it goes. We are at the right stage of the virus, there is no vaccine in place at the moment, it could be a long time before were back to so getting this back to at least come back to school is great news for everybody. Well done, amy, you have been so brave. Getting to the principal. Do you think the whole school will come back . Just a year sevens today, a special day for them. The rest of the School Coming back tomorrow. What do you think attendance will be like . For us, we are concerned, we expect everybody back. Of course we know some parents are a bit anxious and reluctant to send students but we can assure them that everything we can assure them that everything we put in place will keep students and staff safe and therefore they should send the students and any concerns or issues, we will speak to them and work with them and get through it together. Big challenge to get kids to catch up and work out how much they have missed and what they need . Yes, there is and therefore in terms of what staff are doing today, but i doing tomorrow, for the next few weeks, it is all about checking whether students are doing those initial assessments. Both academically and emotionally as well and just making sure they are in the right place and once we have identified what the issues are, we will put their concerns in place. Thanks a lot, appreciate your time this morning. It is a big day for so many schools ride across the country. So many children due back in the classroom. So much to get used to, so much is going to be different. Let us get the picture from wales as well. Tomos morgan is at a Primary School in barry island which is welcoming back pupils today. This is barry island Primary School, as you just said, here in south wales. Children will be coming to school for the first time in so many months. Children came backjust before the summer break but now finally they are back into education full time. In wales, Primary School children will not have to socially distance but obviously the priority is maintaining social distancing, keeping children in their bubbles to maintain the safety for their staff, really, because it is more of an issue for adults. Matt gilbert, the head teacher, put how much of a task has it been putting this in place . It has been a busy time of late, especially working with the council. The key driver is ensuring risk assessments are accurate and continually evolving which we will modify constantly. It is ensuring that the health and safety of teachers, staff and children is paramount. It must be seen strange seeing the whole like this but actually, it wont be able to be get wont be getting used . M but actually, it wont be able to be get wont be getting used . It is a shame but safety first. We have wonderful animals from the stanford is, wonderful animals from the stanford s, celebrating childrens success. Is we are trying to celebrate their success. We have created 1 way systems to create safety for everyone on site. Training programmes have been carried out so yes, it is a change. Lets head down the corridor now to meet paul who will be teaching some of the children. There will be a staggered phase of Children Starting School over the next two weeks and if we could go through here, paul you are teaching year four today . And you have around 30 people in this classroom. Tell us the practicalities of being a teacher, how different it will be for you to teachin how different it will be for you to teach in this environment. The learning environment has changed as you can see from this classroom layout where we are moving towards shoulder to shoulder learning and making sure that learners are facing forward. Movement will be restricted as far as possible. And interaction with students . Primary school kids are used to having interaction. That is difficult and a challenge as a professional to make sure engagement levels are high and if part of that we have carefully timetabled a lot of well being activities and part of that will be using outdoor spaces. So although we are in a class bubble and move around in that bubble, we will utilise outdoor areas as well. You talk about those bubbles and what that means is that all the classrooms and pupils in each class will have to remain together throughout their school day so they will be here together and they will do all their lessons in here with paul and they will go out for break time on their own as just that group of 30 or so students did it when they have lunch it will be just 30 as well did it effort has been put in place here for the children but there is more risk to the adults working here, so it is safety for them as well. Thank you very much. Very interesting to see inside a school in england. More on that throughout the morning for you. Earlier this summer, Marcus Rashford spearheaded a momentous campaign. It led to 120 million of government funding to support children in england who qualified for Free School Meals over the Summer Holidays. And hes not stopping there. Yesterday he revealed hes formed a task force with some of the uks biggest food brands to try to reduce child food poverty. In a personal letter to mp5, the footballer acknowledged that the food Voucher Scheme had positively impacted millions of childrens lives but that it was only ever going to support the issue in the short term. He also talked about families hed met who were living off three slices of bread a day. And he even recalled his own personal experience of hearing his mum crying herself to sleep, unsure how to make ends meet. Were joined now by makayla shadbolt a parent whos benefited from marcus campaign and also his former coach mark gaynord. Thank you very much to both of you for joining thank you very much to both of you forjoining us this morning. Lets start with you, makayla. What do you think the impact of Marcus Rushford osma campaign has been . Think the impact of Marcus Rushford osma campaign has beamm think the impact of Marcus Rushford osma campaign has been . It has been welcome and i know as a parent that i have really struggled with my children did it not quite sure how i would have gotten through summer without being able to have some help without being able to have some help with the School Vouchers. Yeah. Tell us a little bit about those vouchers. You got them and what sort of things were you able to purchase with them and how much difference did it make . I have three children who all qualify for two of them eat like horses. They masses. I could purchase extras extra school stuff they would aid such as sandwiches and children dontjust eat sandwiches they eat crisps and vegetables, fruit. I dont know. They just eat masses vegetables, fruit. I dont know. Theyjust eat masses so having them at home, because they have been home for six months, is such a hard job anyway. Makayla, from your perspective, Marcus Rushford wrote this amazing letter talking about the situation he was in with his family. What difference has it made . What would you be feeding your children without those vouchers and help . My husband was made redundant last year so we have been owing to the food bank and getting food from them. So having that extra money from the School Vouchers has been a massive, massive help. A massive help. Lets speak to mark, who knew marcus as a youngster. Were you aware at that time of the difficulties he and his family were going through . At the time his mother used to bring him to training sessions and she would turn up and say she didnt have the money, could she sorted out the next time. And she sorted out the next time. And she was told that marcus would be fine and she could just play football. I knew she had difficulties because she had difficulties because she had difficulties in paying a couple of pounds for football for marcus. wonder how you use marcus now. Obviously the kids you coach now look up to him that how has this changed the image of him as a role model . This campaign that he is doing, trying to help so many others. Definitely. Kids come and there are many kids who always have new boots or things like that and then you get the kids who have rips in their shoes and in their football boots where they have had to wear them for a year and a half because you can see what their parents can afford to bring for their kids and what parents who cant afford to bring for their kids and it has had a massive impact on the parents because they have been coming forward and saying marcus is doing an absolute fantastic job, forward and saying marcus is doing an absolute fantasticjob, and he is. It has been an amazing job for millions of kids out there in britain and he has gone through it and been through the situation himself and he has found a voice to come out and help all these other youngsters who are suffering out there as well and i am very proud of him for doing that, for remembering how he was brought up and what other kids are suffering now in britain. Makayla, to have someone like Marcus Rushford talking about where he has come from and the difficulty that he has had, does that help your family . Does it help to break the stigma . think it does. Sorry, dont worry, i think it does. Sorry, dont worry, i think it does. I must say that when i went to the food bank for the first time, i felt really ashamed of myself, really, im a, idid first time, i felt really ashamed of myself, really, im a, i did not wa nt myself, really, im a, i did not want to go to the food bank but i needed to feed my children. Sol think a footballer who has come forward and has actually been howl am and has grown up exactly the same, not having a lot of money and things like that, i think it is brilliant that he is doing Something Like this. I think mark wanted to Say Something there as well. Have you seen Say Something there as well. Have you seen the impact more widely than the kids you have been coaching . 100 . You should not feel like there isa 100 . You should not feel like there is a stigma in them at the end of the day, you have got to do what you have got to do, you have got to put food on the table and feed the children. It is great to hear from you both and thank you so much for telling us a little bit about your own experience, makayla, and the differences campaign has made to you. Mark, keep doing the ratejob with the children you are coaching at the moment and thank you both for talking to us this morning. And we will continue talking about Marcus Rushfords campaign over the coming months because he and sally have built up an extraordinary interviewing style and it is brilliant that he has been sharing his campaign with us here on brea kfast. His campaign with us here on breakfast. Louise was speaking to Alistair Campbell yesterday who has written a book about living with depression. Normally you speak to just the person himself but he came here with his partner and they spoke about the family going through it together. And she spoke about the invisible heroes, the families dealing with this as well so that is an interesting interview that should resonate with many viewers. It is 24 minutes past seven. As weve been hearing this morning, the Scottish Government has announced a two week quarantine rule for people arriving home from greece. The restrictions will come into force tomorrow morning. It comes as travellers arriving back into wales from the greek island of zante are told to self isolate for fourteen days after a rise in coronavirus cases there. We can speak about this now to the greek tourism minister, harry theoharis. Hejoins us live. Thank he joins us live. Thank you for coming on this morning to speak to us. Lets start with your reaction to this news of what has happened in wales and then the restrictions on those travelling back from rees to scotland. What do you make of it . First of all let me say that every country has a right to impose the restrictions they feel are necessary to protect their own citizens. From that point of view we understand it. From our point of view, we see that the threshold that the uk has put those 20 cases per hundred thousand of population, we are well below that. We have put in place a comprehensive set of particles and measures, systems and the borders to target testing. We take targeted measures where we see a concentration and we are the fifth country with the number of test we conduct in europe so we feel that we are taking every possible precaution. Having a Health System that shows no signs of problems, of numbers, the kpi of the Health System a re numbers, the kpi of the Health System are very good so we feel that this is a bit harsh. Are you having regular consultations with the welsh and Scottish Governments . Are you making the case that in terms of the threshold you are currently below that. I believe youre currently around 13 per 100,000 in greece . That is right. We offer any data or explanation that is required and mainly we talk to london but we understand that there is a devolution system and some decisions lie with local governments. And what about the situation, i suppose it is twofold, those who may have travelled to greece who will not now and those who are there now trying to return quickly. Of course we will do anything that is required to i think we may have lost the minister there who was telling us about that threshold, 20 cases per 100,000, there has been debate that portugal was on the quarantine list and then removed from the list and even as the minister was telling us they are, the rating greece at the moment is 13 per 100000 and they feel, in his words, that they have been harshly treated by being put on that list in scotland and in wales it is those coming back from zante. We will find out what is happening shortly. You are watching bbc breakfast, still to come the former government spin doctor Alastair Campbell, and his partner fiona, have spoken to breakfast about life with depression, and supporting a loved one with their Mental Health. Well be discussing that shortly and bringing you the latest news. We will also unveil the latest strictly contestant, that will happen in about one hours time. Time now for the weather with carol. Good morning. Good morning everyone. There is a lot happening with the weather today. A lot of cloud around eldon continually through the course of the day from the western is because we have a weather front bringing rain from the west towards the east and with that there is also going to be very windy. This is an area of low pressure dominating the weather, the first weather front moving from the west towards the east and the second one comes in hot on its hills and both are bringing rain. This is where we have had the rainfall already this morning. Some of it has been heavy and it will continue its journey through the rest of the not arriving in the far north east of the country, the far south east until much later. A lot of dry weather to start with brightness and sunshine but we have already seen where the rain is in the west and it will continue to Journey Towards the east and then behind it, while we do have another weather front which is going to bring in some more rain, particularly across Northern Ireland through the course of the afternoon. Talking of the afternoon, if you are in southern england particularly in the south east you will notice the breeze today. It will be blustery but there is a lot of dry weather. Out towards the west, especially with exposure, that wind will be gusty and we have our first band of rain moving through. The second band coming through Northern Ireland and we will see greens and yellows in the charts with the heaviest burst going to be in the gusty east wind of all will be across the far north the west with exposure to not getting into the far north east of scotla nd getting into the far north east of scotland until later. Temperatures, 1520. Scotland until later. Temperatures, 15 20. Just want to point out this area here. Galloway, this is where the met office has a yellow weather warning where both our fronts are meeting and we could have as much as 1530 meeting and we could have as much as 15 30 millimetres of rain from this or, indeed, with height and some of the hillier areas we could have twice that amount. Through the course of the evening and overnight, the first phone continues to journey off into the north sea. Here is the second one which is thinking southwards, again when you see greens and yellows that tells you you can expect heavier bursts but this front is going to weaken all the time as it sinks southwards. Ahead of it they will be a lot of cloud behind it there will still be some cloud but some clear skies and showers. It will not be a cold night, all of us staying in double figures. If we pick up the weather front again tomorrow we continues to journey southwards, beginning all the time, but look at those isobars. We have risk wind tomorrow, gusty ones at that so chance to give you some idea. Anywhere there will be brisk wind. This is the weather front in the south week affair with patchy rain and cloud, north of that we are back into sunshine and some showers but some showers could be heavy, particularly in the west. Temperatures ranging from 15 in the north to about 21, 22 as we push down towards the south. If you like your temperature that high you will be disappointed because as we head into friday and the weekend, the day will turn cooler. More weather in 30 minutes. Hello, this is breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Today, a two billion pound scheme to help get young people into work is being launched by the government. Kickstart will provide anyone who is unemployed, aged under 25 and currently receiving universal credit, with a job placement. Jobs will last a minimum of six months, and will be paid at the National Minimum wage rate for up to 25 hours per week. So, whats in it for businesses . Well, as well as having wages paid for six months, they will also receive a 2000 pound bonus for every apprentice they hire, and 1,500 pounds extra per person for things like training and uniforms. Lets speak now to the work and pensions secretary, Therese Coffey. We were talking about those other things as well. Good morning. There have been very similar schemes like this in the past we havent worked. Why would this one work . Well, we know that it is an important time for young people and we need to make sure we help them get their first foot on thejobs sure we help them get their first foot on the jobs ladder so this is why we are targeting, in particular, those who have been unemployed for a bit of time and at risk of long term unemployment. In terms of what has happened in the past, yes, we have learned some lessons from that this is on learned some lessons from that this isona learned some lessons from that this is on a bigger scale. We have made it more straightforward basically every business, every organisation in the country, to come forward and offer a kick start job in the country, to come forward and offer a kick startjob and we believe the targeted support, not just free labour, will be important for businesses and young people. Just free labour, will be important for businesses and young peoplem that a job because will there be a job for them after the six months are over . These kickstart roles will be a new additional role. That isa will be a new additional role. That is a key part of the criteria which employers will need to consider. But thatis employers will need to consider. But that is already attracted interest. We know from a number of different organisations because there is an element here of helping the economy and helping young people and we know there are a lot of businesses in particular you are keen on recognising the support on how they are going to help young people and this next generation get a job and stay in one. What about the pressure it puts on countries, for example, we havejohn lewis, we have pret a manger, just to name a few. What about the pressure on them to keep on Older Workers . Will they be putting pressure to put them off and putting pressure to put them off and put on young people instead . The important part about this scheme is a new additional roles it is not just about companies laying off a whole load of people and then all of a sudden having kickstart people replace them. There is a wide variety of interventions where we are helping businesses and young people. It could be about apprenticeships are traineeships, this kickstart scheme is really quite comprehensive across the country, broadscale, and were trying to make it as straightforward as possible employers to get involved and that is why the kick start staff survey, employers can find out more guidance, helpline will be open and young people can start to be referred and we hope to see our first kickstarters start in november. How do they prove this isnt a job they would have created anyway . Element that is something they go through as we read the guidance and work through them with that. It is not about a competitive bid, Company Versus company, and no limit to the number of places they can be. We have set aside a certain amount of money to help over the next 18 months in order to get people onto these schemes but really, the door is open, as i say, mutually beneficial for the companies and as i say, it has to be new additional roles and that is something that will be checked when the companies and other organisations apply. the companies and other organisations apply. I want to go back to something David Cameron said about the future jobs fund which is about the future jobs fund which is a similarfund. He said one month after the programme has finished, half the people that were on it were back on the dole. It failed. It itfailed. It failed. A slightly different situation where it was something that happened with the recession at that happened with the recession at that point of the financial crisis. We know that young people are only somewhat on the back foot. We know thatis somewhat on the back foot. We know that is happening across the country and that is why we are specifically wanting to make sure we invest in young people, we invest in businesses and we do believe that the scale of this scheme is much broader, we have reduced a lot of the elements of extra bits that were addedin the elements of extra bits that were added in last time. We really want to just help young people get that work experience, get an extra wraparound support so then they are well prepared to go up the next rung of theirjobs career. There are concerns from the federation of sport Small Businesses to say that you older people who have lost theirjobs. . Kickstart is focused on young people and there already is a significant amount of support available to people of all ages. We are doubling the amount of work coaches by the end of march next year and they will be able to offer tailored support to people. We are also doubling the number of swa ps are also doubling the number of swa ps we a re are also doubling the number of swaps we are doing where we are helping people reconsider some of the skills that they have and where they might have been in a job for a long time and where that might be able to be transferred to. We are offered offering opportunities to all age groups in order to help people who have had misfortune not to keep theirjob. We know the fellow scheme has been a huge success in keeping people connected to the employers but is that winds down we are ready to help people in different interventions a lot of this is about making sure that businesses have the confidence to get the business is going, that is why we have different interventions by the chancellor to help out so we can assimilate the economy. We talk about confidence. Many schools are going back throughout this week, obviously back in scotland, other places as well, but commuter stations are quiet, city centres are quiet, is your message about getting backin quiet, is your message about getting back in the Office Getting through . Clearly things like schools going back will free up the opportunities for many working parents to make sure that they can confidently go back into work. It is important that employers and employees have that discussion about covid safe environment. We have more than half of our staff fully back in the offices. Even we have capacity on how many people can be in a covid safe environment within our workplace so it is about making sure that we just keep taking steps forward and im confident that as you have said, with schools reopening, children going back to school, there will be more opportunities for parents to go back into the office if that is what is the best thing for them and their employer. Can i also ask you about what seems to be confusion this morning about what is going on with travel, for example . We know people travelling back to wales from zante in greece are facing quarantine. If they go back to scotland from greece, they are facing quarantine. What is going to happen in england and you understand people are confused about different roles in different places . There is a pattern and data is monitored and decisions made on thursday with notice to people who are potentially abroad about when a quarantine element make again. I think it is important we keep to thatjudgement made by other ministers in government. A quarantine element may kick in. That isa quarantine element may kick in. That is a sensible approach and some people might have some element of timely confidence. Can i ask you about the data, specifically with portugal. We know that the previous trigger point was 20 people per 100000 and that has been the case in portugal so what is the delay . Element that is the threshold which has been a guiding point with the minister is the expert advice. has been a guiding point with the minister is the expert advice. I am not part of that, louise, so i cant go into detail because i simply dont have that element of details on when they reach their decisions but it is a timely process and i think it has worked well and we make sure that we realise that the coronavirus has not gone away. It is not going on at going away anytime soon. You think it is had worked well. People have been left in difficult situations, portugal was taken off at lesson might be put back on, do do you accept it is typical . When portugal was added back to the list, places that had an air corridor, this can change. Was ita air corridor, this can change. Was it a mistake to add it and then two weeks later take it away . The government has to act in the best interest of Public Health in the way that it sees fit. At the same time, we know that airlines are very keen and holiday firms, to reopen Different Countries, as indeed are Different Countries, as indeed are Different Countries, as indeed are Different Countries but we have to do what is right for Public Health in this country and i think the approach taken, people are aware that there is this threshold the government has, it carefully considers it and makes its announcements on the thursday. I am conscious that some people may have gone briefly abroad but they will have done that knowing the risk that things might change. Can i ask you one question, i am not sure whether you can answer this or not, we heard this morning that bereaved families of covid have been refused a meeting with the Prime Minister. Can you comment on that . My understanding is that the Prime Minister has responded to the family. I dont know the reasons on why they are not meeting. I know the Prime Minister puzzle are generally committed to meeting people who have suffered throughout coronavirus but i cannot give you a specific answer because i just dont know. Take you very much for your indeed this for your time this morning. As pupils return to school in england and wales this week, its notjust inside the classroom where measures are being put in place to ensure they are kept safe. Breakfasts john maguire is with some children and their parents as they wait for the bus to take them to school. It looks like a bus station because we have just had a couple of buses arrive but we are just in front of bus stops. Theyre getting ready to ta ke bus stops. Theyre getting ready to take children to the cotswolds school. Easing themselves gently into school. Good morning claire and jess. Any qualms aboutjust going to school today but also jumping on the school today but also jumping on the school bus . Not really, no. I am obviously anxious, first day at a Senior School and the first time getting the school bus but i am quite happy. I have been on the website and the school has been great about giving us information about Different Things. I feel reassured that they are safe getting on the bus. And what about you, jess . Have you thought about what todays going to be like . jess . Have you thought about what todays going to be like . I am quite nervous because it is my first day but i think it will be nice meeting new people and i feel like it is just a good experience. new people and i feel like it is just a good experience. I suppose what is odd, though, normally you would have had a day at school before the Summer Holidays to familiarise yourself or you may well have done that and a lot of schools do that. Tommy, you havent been able to pull. What are you thinking about today . I feel a bit about going to school a bit nervous about going to school because i havent really been there and about covid and everything but i feel like we have been working really hard to try and get people back to school andi try and get people back to school and i feel really happy about that. Looking forward to it. A bit of trepidation may be. Lee . A big change for him because he went to a big school and now it is over 1500, very exciting, new chapter and were looking forward to it. We are thankful for all the people who have worked so hard open up the school so that he can go ahead with year 7. Coming back to have a quick chat with claire as well. What are the areas of concern that you would like to have questions answered about . Areas of concern that you would like to have questions answered abounm was getting the bus and whether they should be wearing a face masks and whether the buses being cleaned and Different Things like that and with the school as well, that is all been covered. The cotswolds school, they have also followed the government guidelines, they have everything in place with masks being worn in corridors and Different Things like that so i feel quite pleased with everything thats been done. They have all done a tremendous job and i feel quite happy for the children to go back to school. One more with lee. I think, go back to school. One more with lee. Ithink, tommy, you have an older sister going into year 9 . She will be able to show you around but not until tomorrow. Yes, she will be able to show you around but not untiltomorrow. Yes, she is will be able to show you around but not until tomorrow. Yes, she is not as excited as tommy but she is going back and it is exciting for her because she gets to choose new subject towards head gcses and gets to see her friends again so it is good. Yes. They wont have been at school for six months. She has really enjoyed homeschooling but it is time to go back and embrace the new term. The most x import of these to make sure you are not late on your first day so we will let you go injump on the on your first day so we will let you go in jump on the school bus. Would to see you this morning. How long does it take to get to school . About 20 minutes. Children popping on theirface masks. As we 20 minutes. Children popping on their face masks. As we saw with us earlier, you will see what Bus Companies are doing, children into year groups, sitting them in seats. Cleaning the buses as well so have a good day, guys there we are. To typically secondary school, they dont even look back and wave, never mind. Any parent of a secondary school child knows that look a very low percentage. It isjust child knows that look a very low percentage. It is just part of life. Some good news, andy murray, cat . 33 yea rs some good news, andy murray, cat . 33 years old, he has a metal hip, act playing in a grand slam and back winning as well. He is into round two of the us open but he didnt do it the easy way . Finding himself two sets down against japans Yoshihito Nishioka. But murray responded. He won the third set 7 6 then saved match point before taking the fourth here by the same score. And after four hours and 39 minutes, the scot held on in the decider 6 4 to complete a memorable comeback. I dont know how many of us actually believed that i would be back winning matches like that so yeah, it was emotional after the match finished for sure but it was more like when you read the messages from yourfamily and like when you read the messages from your family and friends and staff, thatis your family and friends and staff, that is when you feel it because i dont know why that is but you do. I dont know why that is but you do. I do anyway. Todays when meant a lot and a lot has gone into it. Anti talking of his family. And e. Well be hearing from his mum judy murray in the next hour on how she felt watching that match. Well, that victory was followed up by a win for the british number one dan evans. He beat brazilian youngster thaigo seyboth wild in straight sets meaning there will be four british men in the second round of the event for the First Time Since 1974. Kyle edmund and Cameron Norrie the others who play today. Serena williamss quest for a record equalling 24th grand slam singles title got under way with a straight sets victory over her fellow american. You can see all the results on the bbc sport website. Well if andy murrays comeback wasnt enough dramatic sport for you last night. At old trafford there was a gripping finale to englands twenty20 series with pakistan. Its the International Break as the home nations prepare for matches across europe. Its also the first time some players will get that first call up to play for their country. Wolves captain conor coady is one of them. Hes in the england squad for their games against iceland and denmark. Hes described it as a dream come true, even though it did lead to a misunderstanding with his parents. I rang my mother and father straightaway and said to them i have some news and i had my arm around my wife and my parents asked if she was pregnant again i said no, wife and my parents asked if she was pregnant again isaid no, i have two children already. It upset mum it it surprised mum and dad. It surprised mum and dad. When your son is standing there with his arm around his wife, and england call up is not the first thing you would think of. Letting us know about andy murray and his incredible night of tennis. Dan and i agree on one thing. Right now it is too early to talk about christmas. You can eat mince pies, i dont mind that they are in the shop because they are delicious. But we should not be celebrating this early. If you are just turning on your television, dont panic. Christmas will be at christmas time but nina is that santas grotto i have just time but nina is that santas grotto i havejust broken, ijust broke the reigns of slave. Were going to have to be stationary now. I say to you both, miserable christmas, you are miserable about life. These are just some of the tweets we have had this morning. Patrick says he loves christmas, doesnt mean you can put up his tree . Verity says it is never too early and she keeps her decorations up early and she keeps her decorations up all here. Someone else has said that they have had a tough year and they all deserve a free pass to go in early. Richard says no, not yet, he has not even peopled his onions yet. But get your skates on because it looks like people want to bring christmas forward. Sainsbury and asda are launching their christmas ranges this week. John lewis went in ten days early and they reported a 3. 5fold ten days early and they reported a 3. 5 fold increase ten days early and they reported a 3. 5fold increase into ten days early and they reported a 3. 5 fold increase into christmas traffic online. The implication is that we are desperate for something to look forward to and we are preparing early. Are you ready for the christmas rush . Preparing early. Are you ready for the christmas rush . it is a way away. Not at all. But now that youve mentioned it. I dont do my shopping until november six. Christmas should start in december instead because, december one, because it should not have it in summer. Because it should not have it in summer. We dont see our families as much as we could have this year so it would be nice. I think it would be sad for many people because they have lost so many loved ones. Get togethers. Have lost so many loved ones. Get togethers. This ongoing situation all the time and you dont know how things will escalate all decreases. Shopping wont be the same but there is an air of excitement because it is something to look forward to at the end of the year. I know a lot of people hate the idea of christmas in september but i love it. Ive started to listen to carols in the car, dreaming about mince pies. It is a big part of the Church Calendar and we missed easter so it is great the christmas is around the corner. I am looking forward to it. Yes. Bring it on. Christmas carols in the car there. Lets speak now to kate hardcastle, a Retail Consultant who spots these trends in different areas. How do you feel about sitting on that polar bear. It is quite festive. Retail starts planning for christmas in january and so festive. Retail starts planning for christmas injanuary and so it is an all year phenomena or us. And other any implications that consumers are changing the behaviour this year because of this pent up desire for some fun . We are emotional and we are emotional shoppers and people wa nt to are emotional shoppers and people want to go out and find something positive to celebrate so we do see items pop up sooner than they normally would in stores and online. Research indicates that even baby boomers, some of the older generation, have increased the amount they use their mobile phone. Are we going to see a greater shift to online, do you think . This is going to be the biggest christmas of Online Shopping forever, for two reasons, the absolute size and speed that we have seen since lockdown, it is huge growth and it will be a huge christmas online but challenging still for the retail market, particularly the middle market will stop the middle market, what we predict in some ways our people who have done ok over covid because they have done ok over covid because they have money to spend but once the recession kicks in there will be people who have lost virtually everything. Do you think we will see either end of the economy . People do stretch for luxury and they look for best value and it is the squeezing of the middle market and what it stands for, how do you justify the price. And when we think about it, we have been buying experiences a lot more. We have seen that hanging on for a discount period for christmas. And last year, in particular, people move their spending right through to january. Maybe get some emotion back in christmas, more emotion this time so that may see people buy and spend more emotionally and if you cannot buy experience, if you cannot the Christmas Grotto would you spend that money on other things . Efts for things . Or will you try and retain it because you are worried about your income . It is so unpredictable. And when it comes to advertising, how do you think that will change . Will we be more emotional this year . The Advertising Market is worth williams and you normally start to plan christmas advertisements in july because you know what christmas looks like stop this is a unique christmas and that will never be another christmas like this, i hope, andi another christmas like this, i hope, and i we have to make sure that these businesses and brands get the right messaging. How do they know what people will be doing in november or december . They will hold off in terms of messaging but them messaging has to connect, needs to be about the emotion of christmas rather than being pushy. Finally, the government is on a big push now to get people on the high street and back into offices. Is it going to work or is there no way back now . M is like it out to help out. It is more than safety messages, we have to remind people why it is important there has to be a justifiable region for their budget as well as the fact you just want people in cities and towns. That meant reason for their budget. The magic is there regardless of budget it is just the way people spend. And interestingly, our camera woman, her mother got in really early. You know how many of us were shopping for parents . Her mother started ordering christmas goodsin mother started ordering christmas goods in april so that and could do shopping. There are a few people getting involved in this today. Some as you mentioned are increasingly fa ct as you mentioned are increasingly fact that we talk about christmas. Here are some little puns i have been sending in and you canjudge them. We had dancing through the no. Someone wanted to put you on centre pause. Centre i dont care because i am having a great time. I think it should be christmas all year round. Oh, nina go and fix those things you broke earlier. We saw those baubles all over the floor. A bauble down. We have a bauble down. Thank you for everybody getting in touch. Coming up later this morning we will reveal the latest celebrity confirmed for this is mac strictly come dancing and they will be making history on the show. Lets find out from carol what is expected for christmas. My crystal ball. Good morning everyone. Today we are looking at a fairly cloudy day ahead with some rain and some of that rain will be heavy. As well as that it will be windy, particularly around the rain band and particularly with exposure in the north and the west. Here is a weather front coming in the north and the west. Here is a weatherfront coming in, bringing rain already has a drift eastward and here is the second one following in hot pursuit. So relatively dry across eastern areas with sunshine but dont bank on it staying because the cloud will continue to build through the day and then this band of rain will move from the west towards the east. Followed by this next one. So only for a short amount of time over Northern Ireland before more heavy rain of drives. Sustained wind strengths with hi gusts and already costs in excess of 40 mile an hour across parts of the north west of scotland. And the met office has the yellow weather warning out, especially for increases in galloway where we could have 15 30 millimetres of rainfall, possibly more than that in the hillier areas and that is where both the weather front is actually made. That is why see heavy rain. Temperatures today range from 15 degrees in the north to 20 degrees in the south. Through this evening and overnight, there is the first band of rain clearing into the sea, the second one continues to journey southwards with a lot of cloud ahead of it. Behind it there will be some clear skies, some cloud and some showers. As you can see from the temperatures, 13 15 and it will not bea temperatures, 13 15 and it will not be a cold night. So tomorrow we pick up be a cold night. So tomorrow we pick up this weather front, a very weak affair bringing cloud and patchy rain with it into southern areas. Behind that we are looking at sunshine, bright spells and some showers and, still, a brisk wind especially with exposure. Temperatures of 15 degrees in norwich, 20 in aberdeen, 22 in norwich. If you like it in the 20s, temperatures will be dropping because overnight thursday into friday that front sinks south and it pivots and it will come back, rejuvenated ringing some more rain across southern parts of wales and southern england and then pushing down towards the south east. On the other side of the front, we are looking at some sunshine and some showers, the showers being blown in ona showers, the showers being blown in on a brisk north westerly and also some of those showers in the west could prove to be heavy and thundery. Temperatures 13 19 degrees. On saturday we see something dry and bright with a fair bit of sunshine. Still a few showers coming in in the north westerly breeze in the western areas, the other thing is it is going to fill cooler. Temperatures are 11 in some areas, 18 in london. Similar weather on sunday as well. Headlines our next. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Our headlines today. Wales and scotland introduce new quarantine rules for greece, amid concerns about rising coronavirus cases. Nearly a Million People will be affected by new restrictions in glasgow and surrounding areas after infections increase, just as rules in Greater Manchester are eased. Pupils return to school that ever time in six months, year seven pupils start at big school and more children to follow back in the classroom later this week. There are millions of kids getting back to education for the First Time Since lockdown really hit. Back at a grand slam. And back with a bang. Andy murray stages an incredible comeback at the us open. And former spin doctor Alastair Campbell and his partner fiona speak to breakfast about living with severe depression. I was hiding it through drink or through work orjust denial, which so many of us do. I definitely took it out on fiona. Its wednesday 2nd september. Our top story. The Scottish Government has announced that anyone returning to the country from greece after 4am tomorrow will need to quarantine for two weeks. Ministers said they have taken the move due to a significant rise in cases. Anyone coming back to wales from the greek island of zante is also being told to self isolate for 14 days. The uk government and the devolved administrations will hold urgent discussions today about the new quarantine measures for travellers. It is spreading again, particularly in these three local authority areas. And we believe that in these areas, it is spreading primarily as a result of household gatherings. Earlier we spoke to the greek tourism minister harry theoharis, who told us he thought the measures were unfair. We are the fifth country in the number of tests we conduct in europe, so we feel we are taking every possible precaution, having a Health System that shows no signs of problems, all the numbers, if you like, the kpis of the Health System are in very good shape. So we feel that this is, if you like, a bit harsh. Were joined now by our reporter katie hunter who is in glasgow this morning. To us about how these new travel restrictions will work. Scottish ministers say they have taken this decision because of a significant rise in cases coming into scotland from greece, in particular, the greek islands. We believe the prevalence of covid 19 in greece is still below about 20 per 100,000 people but this is about the cases linked from scotland to greece. From thursday morning, tomorrow morning at 4am, anyone travelling from greece to scotland will have to self isolate for 14 days. The Scottish Government has warned in the past that restrictions could be introduced at very short notice. They have warned against all but essential travel to foreign countries, and these restrictions appear to have been introduced at short notice. Finally, anyone who has returned from greece to scotland in the last few days is being asked to be vigilant. And also, there are some local restrictions being imposed in glasgow and the surrounding areas. Can you run us through those as well this morning, please . Yes, these restrictions affect around 800,000 People Living in glasgow, East Renfrewshire and west dunbartonshire. The focus is on indoor household gatherings, so people in these areas will not be allowed to visit friends and family in their homes. The first minister says that is because transmission of the virus appears to be happening in homes, rather than in pubs and restau ra nts. Homes, rather than in pubs and restaurants. Relief for the Hospitality Industry as businesses will be allowed to stay open. These restrictions also affect hospitals and care homes, indoor visits will be restricted to essential visit only. We are expecting their restrictions to last for two weeks. They will be reviewed every seven days and the Scottish Government has said that it wont rule out extending the restrictions if necessary. Thank you forjoining us. Meanwhile, more than a Million People in parts of Greater Manchester, lancashire and West Yorkshire will have some lockdown restrictions eased despite opposition from some councils. Members of two households will be able to meet again in their own homes and gardens, but councillors have criticised the government, accusing them of ignoring advice from Health Officials and lifting the measures too soon. Thousands of pupils will return to school today in england and wales, following months away from the classroom because of coronavirus. Many schools have introduced one way systems and staggered start times to help keep staff and students safe. It is not clear how many parents are planning to send their children back, although attendance is compulsory in england. A £2 billion scheme aimed at helping young people into work is being launched by the government today. Under the kick start initiative, employers will be able to offer people who are aged under 24 and on universal credit a work placement for six months, with the government helping to cover the funding. Our Political Correspondent iain watsonjoins us now from westminster. There has been similar schemes before, havent there . Yes, for example the view the jobs before, havent there . Yes, for example the view thejobs front before, havent there . Yes, for example the view the jobs front from the previously because meant that the previously because meant that the current government criticised, and one they introduced themselves a long time ago. But they say this will be much more straightforward for employers to participate in an broader in scope, anyone at risk of potential unemployment between 16 24 will be eligible for the scheme and there will be no limit on the number of placements of that although they are giving an estimate of perhaps around 250,000. The work and pensions secretary Therese Coffey early on the programme denied this would simply be a source of free labourfor employers. We know it is an important time for young people and we need to make sure we try to help them get their first foot on the jobs ladder so this is why we are targeting in particular those who have been employed for a bit of time and are at risk of long term unemployment. In terms of what has happened in the past, yes, we have learned some lessons from that but this is on a bigger scale. We have made it more straightforward for basically every business and organisation in the country to come forward and offer a kick startjob country to come forward and offer a kick start job and we believe the targeted support, not just kick start job and we believe the targeted support, notjust about, in effect, free labour, will be important for businesses and very important for businesses and very important for businesses and very important for young people. Obviously, she said it will be important for young people but theres also the question of what happens to older people, given the stress that is in the jobs market, the potential for unemployment when the potential for unemployment when the furlough scheme comes to an end next month. She said these are going to be new, additionaljobs, and the government will monitor this and it will not simply be a case of kick starters coming in and replacing older and indeed more expensive members of staff. The government will be meeting the National Minimum wage level for young people for up to 25 hours a week, it is possible for employs to top it up or extend the hours but she says this will be a way to give them the skills they may need when the economy picks up, not a way of using them as cheap labour to substitute for Older Workers whose jobs may well be under threat. Thank you forjoining us. A group campaigning forfamilies who have lost loved ones to coronavirus has called the Prime Minister heartless after claiming he has refused to meet with them. Last week, borisjohnson had suggested he would be willing to talk to group members, but later he wrote to the group to say he was unable to meet them. Covid 19 bereaved families forjustice said it had already writtem to mrjohnson five times to request a meeting. 14 people are going on trial in paris today, over the attack on the satirical weekly magazine, charlie hebdo. They are accused of helping the islamist gunmen who killed 12 people in january 2015. A third gunman also shot dead a policewoman and attacked a jewish supermarket. Following the incident, people took part in solidarity marches in france and around the world. President trump has visited the city of kenosha in wisconsin after a week of violent clashes following the shooting of a black man, jacob blake, by a Police Officer last month. Mr trump did not visit mr blake or his family, and condemned the unrest as domestic terrorism. Our north america correspondent Aleem Maqbool reports. If you walk away right now. Officials here feared a visit by donald trump would reignite tensions. And as he rolled into town, people took to the streets again and arguments flared up between black lives matter protesters and Trump Supporters. I was asked the other day by somebody saying, do you think its good that trump is coming . Isaid, yeah. Theyre like, well, dont you think its going to cause dissension . I go, have you seen our city . when he arrived, the president did view some of the damage caused during the protests, and met Law Enforcement agencies. He called the demonstrations anti police and anti american. Violent mobs demolished or damaged at least 25 businesses, burned down public buildings and threw bricks at Police Officers. Which Police Officers wont stand for, and they didnt stand for. These are not acts of peaceful protest, but really domestic terror. This did all start with the shooting seven times by an officer ofjacob blake. But his family said they didnt want to see the president. All i ask is that he keep his disrespect, his foul language, far away from our family. We need a president thats going to unite our country and take us in a different direction. In any case, Donald Trumps focus has been law and order, looting and burning, not racial injustice. I think what has happened over the last week has just shown how deep the racism that exists in this country is and how it shows up in any town from chicago to kenosha. In part, she is referencing the way in which the president has defended this 17 year old, who shot dead two protesters, while condemning people like her who took to the streets. Four more years what has undoubtedly been exposed by the events here has been the stark polarisation of american society. I would love to shake your hand, bro. We did see brief moments of coming together between Trump Supporters and detractors, but right now this feels like a rarity. Aleem maqbool, bbc news, in kenosha, wisconsin. A flotilla of hot air balloons took to the skies above bristol to perform music from the air directly into peoples homes last night. Known as the sky orchestra, the art installation involves each balloon playing a different element of the music through a speaker attached to the baskets. The performance was developed during lockdown. That looks good. That is really lovely. Shall we go home and play that for the next 50 minutes . Id like them to be above my house semi permanently. It is 12 minutes past eight. Thousands of children in england and wales will be stepping back in to the classroom today, some of them for the first time in six months, but how different will their school day be . We have seen a lot of empty schools in the last few weeks on the programme. Dan johnson has in the last few weeks on the programme. Danjohnson has plenty of children who have gone in this morning, so there is an empty playground behind you, you are at a secondary school in nottinghamshire so what is happening today . Children starting to arrive at their first at big school, just year seven inter day, you might be able to see the pupils going on, more buses coming all the time, and they are being welcomed by the teachers because this is their first day at big school so they have so much to get used to anyway but today, with coronavirus and all the measures in place, so much for them to take on board, lets have a quick word with divina who is just starting, how are you feeling . Quite nervous, but im very excited because it is a new school and a new environment. Are you worried about the measures in place, the things will keep you safe . Place, the things will keep you safe . No, it isjust kind of things that need to be put into keep us safe and i am completely 0k that need to be put into keep us safe and i am completely ok with that. 0k, safe and i am completely ok with that. Ok, if we turn around, a bus has just arrived with more children. The principle is here as well. How are you feeling this morning . Very excited, seeing the young ones coming through. We have been looking forward to it, and it is great they are finally here. How much preparation has there been for the day . A lot of preparation, their staff, the site team, the catering staff, the site team, the catering staff, everyone in the building has done a greatjob to get staff, everyone in the building has done a great job to get the school ready for what is coming this morning. Good morning, iwill write . Yes. Welcome, happy to be at school today . Yes. Arrange how are you feeling, guys, happy to be at school . Yes. No no, yes . How are you doing, all right . Good. Vaz te at big school, nervous . Yes. Do you think you will be safe . Yes. Have a good day, thank you. So much for them to get used to and a lot of work has gone into it, helping people catch up now because these are kids you dont even know, right . No, i dont but we have done transition work remotely so we have got to know them and we know that right from the start, we need to plan in place for them and there are already plans in place for them so we will work from them from now to make sure we have them settling in because we have a ready spoken to parents and put some of them in a building before, to try to make sure we take that anxiety away. But we know they will be fine today. And the key is keeping different year groups separate around the school when you are full later this week. Yes, so from thursday, what will happen is everyone will have their own corridor, they will be separate. They will have their own designated toilets and entrances and exits and it isjust a matter of keeping their bubbles separate as much as possible, making sure there is no mixing of bubbles. Do you think pa rents mixing of bubbles. Do you think parents will have the confidence to send their kids back and are you expecting full attendance . We do because of the communication that has gone on, we have dedicated a section of the website and made sure we updated it regularly, and in the summer we updated it regularly, and in the Summer Holidays, we were calling parents, interacting with them, answering their queries and things like that. We are confident we will have all of them in today. If for some reason some of them are still a bit and just about sending them in, we are more than prepared to work with them, talk through the issues, put in place the support and get them into school. What happens if there is further disruption in future, if there is a case in school ora future, if there is a case in school or a local lockdown, are you prepared for that . We are prepared for that, the procedure is that when we do have any instances like that, we do have any instances like that, we consult Public Health england and follow their advice and take actions based on the advice. Students have to work remotely, we have got resources in place, plans in place to make sure that we give them quality education even at home because ultimately, we have managed to get in touch with parents to check where they have issues with laptops and computers to work and things like that so if it is that we need to support them with that, we will be able to work around that to make sure students still have quality education at time. Ok, thank you very much, pleased to be back . Yes, it is quite. A strange day, right . Yes, because we have been at home for so long but it is very nice that we are able to come back to school and find new friends and things like that. Best of luck, have a cracking day. You are so brave to speak to us this morning. So much going on, such a nervous start to the new school day and so much for the new school day and so much for the children to take on and so much for the teachers to get right. How will they catch up with everything that has been lost and prepare if there is further disruption to education in future . Lots of questions about this term but it is just nice to see children back in a playground and going back into the classroom once again. And dan, if anyone has just switched on and they are seeing their children lining up, remind us what they will be doing now as they go into the building for the first time. Yes, so at the start of the day, it will be all about familiarising these children with their new school but also with the new measures and procedures so they are going to have a talk from the teachers to start the day about everything they should be doing to keep them safe and the nature of the bubbles, the way they will be kept separate from the other year groups and the things they need to do to stay away from other groups when they are in the corridors, the hand sanitising regime and the preparations for actually catching up preparations for actually catching up and getting back to education, what the term is going to look like in terms of the curriculum and what they are going to learn. So much for them to take in, it must be a really nerve racking time. I remember my first day at secondary school that was nervous enough but with everything these kids are facing and everything these kids are facing and everything they have been through the last few months, you really have to give it to them for showing such positive spirit this morning and lets give a word to the teachers and school staff as well who have been so busy right through the summer, trying to keep up with the guidance and get everything in place to make sure this can happen successfully today. Everyone has been working really hard. There wont have been many Summer Holidays for anyone in education this year but a lot of hard work and determination to make sure that this day could happen. And now the test will be how successfully it rolls out and how they can maintain education and how they can respond to the challenges that are no doubt going to come. Exactly. Thank you for joining going to come. Exactly. Thank you forjoining us. And we hope theyll have a good first day at big school today. Im sure most of us remember our first day tomos morgan is at a Primary School in barry island which is welcoming back pupils today. What plans are in place there . Good morning. Good morning. Dan might remember his birthday in high school but i cant really remember my first day in Primary School because it was too long ago, but barry island Primary School is reopening for some pupils today in wales. Children under 11 pupils today in wales. Children under11 in pupils today in wales. Children under 11 in wales will not have to socially distance, there are no masks needed for any Primary School children but children will be in classrooms like this, everyone forward facing and they will remain in their bubbles throughout the day, which means they will be doing everything in groups of 30 or however big the class is. They will have great time on their own and lunchtime here in the classroom. Break time. Sarah and your two children standing next to you, you are children standing next to you, you a re really children standing next to you, you are really excited to come back today, i due . Yes. Yes. A resounding yes, there, and you are happy that they are safe and looking forward to them going back . Absolutely, yeah, they have been looking forward to going back for ages and certainly we are looking forward to having some routine back. Iwas are looking forward to having some routine back. I was lucky during the covid crisis because we used the hub but they missed their friends and they missed the teacher contact and learning. And the way it is set out, you have had a little walk through the school, you are happy and confident everything. Not that everything will go to plan but you feel confident about the safety element . No concerns at all, very happy. Great stuff, and good luck today, both of you. We willjust walk out back into the corridor, there are hand sanitiser is when you come in and out so pupils and staff can use it. There is a one way system can use it. There is a one way syste m o n can use it. There is a one way system on the floor through the corridor as we come into the main hall. The main hall will not be used for assembly at the moment because, clearly, the bubbles have to stay together. It is your vaz te back as well, talk to us a bit about different entrances for different year groups, are you happy with everything . Yes, we have had the communication and it has been very clear that different classes use different entrances at different times and they will finish school at different times, they will be staggered. There is a trial run before the Summer Holidays and i will am quite confident the school is ready to have the children back. And for you, the main thing is you get to see your friends again . Yes but also a bit of learning as well, you are happy about that . Yeah of course, matt, the head teacher, it has clearly been a lot of work. What has clearly been a lot of work. What has it been like getting the teachers not on board but making sure everybody understands the guidance . I think realistically, with the advice and guidance from the local authority, and with Human Resources support and some members of staff to return to work, they have been incredible. I am lucky to work with a dynamic teaching team. They are really hands on, integral to setting up the school ready and again, knowing with the risk assessments based on the Welsh Government guidelines and the local authority advice. Thank you so much. One of the schools opening on barry island, one of the schools opening across wales today but most schools like this one will be doing a phased return, having different year groups starting school on different days of the week this week. In a week and a halfs time, all children in wales will have to be back in school. Thank you very much for showing us around there as well. The Scottish Government have reintroduced lockdown measures in glasgow and parts of western scotland that come into force today, after a rise in coronavirus cases. Elsewhere, travellers returning to scotland from greece from tomorrow morning have been told they need to self isolate on their return. Joins us now from glasgow. Good morning. Always good to speak to you. How are you . We are all right, we wanted to talk about the situation in greece is because we spoke to the greek tourism minister this morning and he is talking about what i am sure many of our viewers are familiar with, this rate per 100000 and it seems to be that if it gets above 20 per 100,000, then a country looks likely to go on the quarantine list and he was making the point that greece is only around 13 per 100,000 cases of coronavirus at the moment, that infection rate so he thinks the measures put in place by the Scottish Government are harsh. What is your reaction to that . He is Detailed Analysis is correct, it is only about 13 or 14 per 100,000, rising but still only at that number. It illustrates the fa ct at that number. It illustrates the fact that this is not as blunt a tool as perhaps people suggest. It is not that when you get to 20, you get added and when you go below 20, you dont, we look when you are at 20. Our problem here is that test and protect, our test and tray system, that actually speaks to the people who are positive, remember, so if you are positive, you get a phone call from someone and they get asked where they have been, what they have done, who they have been in contact with, where did you go to the pub, who have you had in your house and where did you travel to, and a number of people telling us they have come from greece has led us to put greece on the list, im afraid. There were too many travellers in scotland with a positive result having been in greece, simple as that. So it is really interesting, the 20 per 100,000, it is were not the figure you are letting out but your own data telling you there were too many people coming back from their who we re people coming back from their who were in danger . Correct, and greece is no different from england or scotland, remember, this virus does not behave universally. You dont put a lockdown in leicester because the whole of england has had a problem or a lockdown in aberdeen because the whole of scotland has a problem. Greece has some hotspots. Za nte, problem. Greece has some hotspots. Zante, you problem. Greece has some hotspots. Za nte, you have problem. Greece has some hotspots. Zante, you have seen that in the last few days, with a link to wales. It seems to be a bit of a tourist hotspot, if that makes sense. So some of our tourism travellers have caught the virus or been incubating the virus, then come home and tested positive with the potential of a little outbreak and we just need to be so cautious. We have got 300 people in hospital with this virus and an extra two intensive care admissions over the last few days. I have said this before in your programme, this virus is not fun, but it is not to be trifled with, you got to be so careful. We spoke toa you got to be so careful. We spoke to a couple this morning you had a holiday but to travel to roads this weekend i think and they said they have been really carefully watching the infection rates for greece to make sure they were safety but in the first place. What is your message to people like them and those who have lost the confidence they might have had in taking a foreign trip at the moment . Is it too much of a risk to do it . It is so difficult, isnt it . Im not going to tell people not to go on foreign holidays because the Business Owners. I spoke to scotlands airport leaders earlier this week, actually, it was a constructive conversation but it is so difficult. These businesses employ thousands of people in their supply chain, in the tourist industry, but i would be reluctant to book an overseas holidayjust now because, and greece illustrates it, it can change overnight. Now it might be that it goes the other way and a country comes off quarantine. But i would not want to take that risk just now and but i would not want to take that riskjust now and that is what im telling my family. But its easy for me to say. I am not an agent, i dont run an airline, i dont run an airport. It is easy for the clinical director to tell people not to go on holiday but that is peoples businesses and livelihoods and people come after five months, frankly, are desperate for a holiday and who can blame them . frankly, are desperate for a holiday and who can blame them . I will ask you about glasgow in a moment but one more quick one on the situation in greece, what about where they are doing in wales where they are having a more targeted lockdown of people coming back from zante rather than the whole country . We have looked at that across a number of places, so spain, if youre a member, i think we talked about when spain got added and whether you should add the islands and the mainland. It is really difficult when you get down to that kind of level to be as accurate as you would like to be. So we have avoided that where we can. Then what happened in spain was the islands caught up with the mainland because a lot of spaniards also go on holiday on the island so we ended up on holiday on the island so we ended up in the same position. If you can do localised, and that is what you are seeing in glasgow, that is a good thing because it saves you doing it to a broader population, but the travel restrictions is a pretty pontal to stop importing cases which is why weve done the whole country. And the situation in glasgow, as you touched on again, the first minister said yesterday this is a preventative action, have the restrictions been brought in in order to keep schools open . Well, they have been brought in in the context where the schools have been open for three weeks and closing schools for five months is not a good thing, it is a terrible thing. It isa good thing, it is a terrible thing. It is a terrible thing for education and Public Health. The likes of me advising, we are desperate for schools to open and higher and further education to get back because they are important for the population, not just because they are important for the population, notjust for the because they are important for the population, not just for the kids, id lets peep and lets people get back to work in society but the numbers in glasgow in the last seven days, let me just look at them quickly, 15, 21, 14, 36, 39, 69, 66. You dont need a maths degree to work out something is happening there. It is not exponential so it has not rocketed. But it is just enough for us to try to do something relatively mild, although it doesnt feel like that if you are waking up in glasgow today and you are going to see your mum are you now cant and you now cant but we wanted to do something that would restrict that and human behaviour, which is our only treatment against the disease, would kick in and keep the number down. Thank you forjoining us. Iam number down. Thank you forjoining us. I am sure we will speak to him again as well as we have over the last three months. You are watching bbc breakfast, still to come. The singer will young has written a book about learning to accept himself, after struggling with his sexuality. Hejoins us before nine. We will also reveal the latest strictly contestant. Now lets get the weather with carol. Now, you might be starting up somewhere that is dry but the cloud is going to build and we will see some rain coming our way through the course of the day. A beautiful weather watchers picture with the cloud in cumbria but it is not going to last. If you havent already got rain, it is not far away. To last. If you havent already got rain, it is not faraway. Rain coming from the rest, west, spreading eastward another fairly windy day, gusts in excess of 40 mph already in parts of the western isles. We have got one weather front moving west to east, and then a second weather front is going to pushing southwards through the day and if you look at the isobars, they are squeezed together. It is going to bea are squeezed together. It is going to be a blustery day or a windy day depending on where you are. We have had all of this rain already moving from the west of the east and as we go through the rest of the morning and into the afternoon, some of the rain will be heavy. Wherever you see green and yellow on the chart, that is telling you where you can expect the heaviest bursts. Still some sunshine to be had this morning in eastern areas but the cloud will continue to thicken and move eastwards and then we have the second where the front which is going to be thinking southwards as we go through the day. Some heavy rainfor we go through the day. Some heavy rain for Northern Ireland and dumfries and galloway in particular. Through the afternoon, the rain will not have made it to the south east but the cloud will be building and gusty wins with exposure in the west, particularly north west wales. Here is the rain across england, and the rain across Northern Ireland, and as we move across western and northern scotland, this is where we will have the strongest gusts of wind and still some rain but not yet this afternoon in the far north east. Temperature wise today, nothing to write home about, we are looking at 15 in lerwick, 21 in hull. Through this evening and overnight, ourfirst hull. Through this evening and overnight, our first band hull. Through this evening and overnight, ourfirst band of rain continues its journey, overnight, ourfirst band of rain continues itsjourney, moving in the direction of the north sea. This is the second one coming in, thinking steadily southwards and ahead of it, a lot of cloud. Behind it, some clear skies and some cloud and also some showers. Overnight temperatures tell you it is not going to be particularly cold, we are all staying in double figures. Tomorrow, the weather front thinks south, a fairly wea k the weather front thinks south, a fairly weak affair but look at the isobars on the chart. Tomorrow we will have some brisk wind. This is the kind of gust you can expect first thing in the morning, so once again, looking at the strong east wind across the far north west of the country. Meanwhile, the weather front continues to think south, taking the cloud and patchy rain with it in doing so. Behind that weather front, for the rest of the uk, we are looking at some sunshine, some bright spells, and also some showers. Temperature is 15 in the north, to 21 in the south, but dont forget, we also have those brisk winds. By the time we get to friday, what will have happened is overnight, the front will have sunk southwards, pivoted back, rejuvenated, brought in some rain across southern england and wales and through friday, continues to push towards the south east. On the other side of the weather front, we are looking at some bright spells, sunshine and showers, but some of those could be heavy and thundery and it will feel cooler. Have a great day. Hello, this is breakfast with dan walker and louise minchin. Its strictly time. Whether its a foxtrot or an argentine tango that takes your fancy, im sure we can all say that after this year a little ballroom sparkle is what we need. We had our very own mike in it last year. Thats right, strictly come dancing is back next month and this morning we can reveal the fourth star who will be taking to the dancefloor. Representing great britain, nicola adams and as the closing bell sounds, nicola adams produces a fast fist flurry, just to underline the superiority shes demonstrated. How are you . Congratulations are you excited . Yeah, really excited. I just cant wait to get going. Its something new, a big adventure, a big challenge. It certainly will be. Im always interested in how people tell theirfamily im always interested in how people tell their family and friends. Have you been keeping it a secret . How many people in that the circle before today . Literally i have told probably three people. Not that many people knew i was going to be in this. I was keeping it a secret. You will get lots of messages right now. You are going to make history as pa rt you are going to make history as part of the first same sex couple. How important is that to you . Really important. Its a big step for the show as well. It is nice to see that we are able to move on, and ijust cant wait to get some dancing done, really. Is that something that you asked a show about, or did they approach you about that . asked a show about, or did they approach you about that . I asked the show about it. They wanted to know ifi show about it. They wanted to know if i wanted to be on the show, i said, yeah, ill do it, but if i wanted to be on the show, i said, yeah, ill do it, but i want to dance with another female dance partner. And they said, obviously, yes . Yes. Thats brilliant. Have you watched the series, are you a fan of the show . Yes, im a fan, ive seen a couple of the seasons. I know its going to be tough. I know the training is going to be hard. I cant dance at all. So, this is going to be a totally new challenge for me. The thing is, loads of people say, oh, i cant dance, it is new to me. Be honest, have you been having secret lessons for months on end . The only thing i have been doing is tiktoks. Thats as far as my dancing goes. What marker we can see some of your tiktoks. So, tiktok isa see some of your tiktoks. So, tiktok is a good start. It looks good to me. Look at you youve got speed, style. What really strikes me about strictly is it is the athletes amongst the contestants who are really, right from the start, able to cope with the kind of level of training you are going to need. Thats going to help you, isnt it . Definitely, ill be using that to my advantage. Im used to doing hard, long training sessions. So, that pa rt long training sessions. So, that part of it should be a walk in the park, i think. Part of it should be a walk in the park, ithink. Where part of it should be a walk in the park, i think. Where i am going to struggle as when it comes to doing the routines, getting everything right, getting the choreographing rate. So, its. Theres going to be pluses and minuses. In terms of someone be pluses and minuses. In terms of someone he was a big fan of the programme, is there one of the dancers that you are particularly looking forward to coupling up with, when that is announced . looking forward to coupling up with, when that is announced . I dont mind, actually. All of the dancers are mind, actually. All of the dancers a re really mind, actually. All of the dancers are really good. I dont mind which person i am paired with. Id only be wanting somebody that is may be a little bit on the short side, because im a little bit small. Maybe one of the smaller partners. What message would it send out, if you have been growing up as a young person and seeing a same sex couple ona person and seeing a same sex couple on a programme like this, what kind of message would it have sent to you . Do you think its really important . I think its really important. Its definitely time for change. Its definitely time to move on and be more diverse. And this is a brilliant step in the right direction. It will be nice for the lg bt direction. It will be nice for the Lgbt Community to be able to see that there are same sex couples on the show as well. Just tell us a bit about social distancing. Presumably, i dont know how much you can tell us, but there are real difficulties infilming us, but there are real difficulties in filming something yeah, itll be interesting to see how it happens. Im hoping that maybe they will be able to do social distancing crowds, but who knows . We saw your tiktok, there. Clearly, you like the strict style that has been introduced in recent years, judging from your dancing there. Street style. What are you looking forward to learning and doing . style. What are you looking forward to learning and doing . I am looking forward to learning the tango, the cha cha, the kind of dances you see on the films, the james bond films. Im looking forward to learning those kind of moves. Also, you will, of course, be very good at dealing with nerves, ahead of those boxing matches, hugely important ones you went on to win. Do you think that gives you the edge when you are standing on top of the steps going, all right, 30 seconds before i have to dance . Yeah, definitely. I think i will have a lot easierjob controlling my nerves, especially when it comes to the competition side of things. Im used to boxing in front of 20,000 people. And god knows how many watching around the world. So that kind of things, i should have down. Ijust need to work on my moves. Nicola, we need to ask you a little bit about the way they are going to process things in terms of being covid secure, which is the phrase we talk about at the moment. Have you been run through the protocols you will have to do, the protocols you will have to do, the dancers and the staff are going to have to go through to make sure it is safe for everybody . Yeah, they have been going through a few things. But things are changing all the time. We are getting updated all the time. We are getting updated all the time. We are getting updated all the time. Its very much changing. Its nice to see that they are taking the right protocols and everything is being done correctly. Really great to speak to you. Good luck. Promised to come and talk to us throughout your journey, luck. Promised to come and talk to us throughout yourjourney, that is what we call it, on strictly. Very quickly, i know you are in greece at the moment, are you worried about getting back, to make sure you are backin getting back, to make sure you are back in time to start the training . Dont worry, ill be back in time. If theres one thing that anybody should know about me, i never miss a training session, so ill be there that is what we call fighting talk. Thank you very much indeed. So great to speak to you. Strictly come dancing will return to bbc one in october. A slightly shorter programme. Youll have to wait for a while. We dont have to wait for a while. We dont have to wait for a while. We dont have to wait for results on what is going on with andy murray. Its been a long road back for andy murray. He broke down in tears at his last grand slam injanuary last year. Hip surgery followed and many thought his career was over. But last night the 33 year old was back on the big stage. And once again showed his phenomenal mental strength, staging a remarkable comeback to beat japans Yoshihito Nishioka at the us open, joe lynskey reports. Andy murrays last grand slam was 20 months ago. Back then, no one thought tennis could look so strange and sound so empty. But after so long away, murray had to dig deep to stick around. Yoshihito nishioka is just five foot seven. He won the first two sets through his speed around the court. Murrays body is still adjusting to majors. The pain looked too much. But then the fightback came. In the third, he forced a tie break, and then set to winning it. Come on even in an empty stadium, murray brings the roar himself. With the momentum, he did the same again in a fourth set tie break. That meant a decider, and quite the test for a resurfaced hip. Murray is still outside the worlds top 100, but his perseverance is still there. Still, after four hours, he stayed in the set and then went for the win. And hes done it i dont know how many of us actually believed i would be back winning matches like that. So, yeah, it was emotional after the match finished, for sure. Even by murrays standards, this win was extraordinary. 20 months ago he left a grand slam in tears. Now, for him, and for this sport, everythings changed. Joe lynskey, bbc news. Emotionally drained and sleep deprived after that, that was just me imagine if you were andy murrays mother watching that. I suffer for me, its torture. It is like a heart attack and severe nausea, going on at the same time. And thats never changed. So even though my common sense will tell me, you know, everything really is a nice bonus from here, i dont think it will be like that at all. So, yeah, more torture coming up in a couple of days. Andy murray is now in a former british men through to the second round. It is only the first time that has happened since 1974. A bit of history made. Sport throws up so many incredible stories. That is why we love it. But andy murrays story has to be one of the most remarkable of modern times. Luckily for us, its not over yet. Alastair campbell, the former government spin doctor, has spoken openly about his struggles with his Mental Health in the past now hes written a book about the impact its had on him and his family. Ive been speaking to alastair and his partner fiona millar who told me about the pressures of supporting someone living with depression. And the effect on family and friends. Lets talk a little about where you are now because you have a scale, dont you, in your head of 1 10. What is one and what is ten . One is delirious and the world is just absolutely wonderful and everything i do will be brilliant. And nine is the maximum i allow in my head on the other side because that is when i am so depressed i can barely move or speak. The recent scale helps me is when i wa ke the recent scale helps me is when i wake up, if i am feeling like am down there, i think making myself conscious of it then, you know, so many years later, far too many years later, it allows me to put in place the things that i have known from experience can help. Where are you today . When i woke up this morning i was probably about four. Thats good . That is ok. That is stable. I like three. Three is when i am not crazy but i have energy and i like having energy. Which one do you like, fiona . 3 4 is good to live with. And he is very entertaining. People ask what it is like living with him, i say, difficult but never boring. And thats true. Theres always a lot of challenges, never dull. About fiona, you say she is not someone who flaked when the going gets tough and it is clear that your relationship has been absolutely key throughout your whole recovery as well. In a way i have been so close that ifeel she is like my arm or my leg and if it doesnt work i go a little haywire. So if your relationship is not working . Yes. Or if i feel that fiona is not supportive or disapproving or whatever it may be, it feels like a personal blow and i think in the past whenever i have been depressed, for years, when i was hiding it through drink or work orjust denial, which so many of us do, i definitely took it out on fiona because i felt she was the only person i felt i could really be depressed with. Everyone else, i had to pretend. And isnt that tough on you, fiona . Not only on me but thousands of others who go through this right now. They are the invisible heroes of this Mental Health thing whereas if you have cancer, people can be overtly sympathetic and it can be talked about but i think it is too hidden. Lets take you back to the beginning, because both your brothers had serious issues. Yes and they both died at 62. Which was my age when i wrote the book, and i am 63 now so i made it through. My older brother, donald, was in the army and was invalided out of the army with schizophrenia which was when i started to become interested in Mental Illness because we knew nothing about schizophrenia. And my second brother, graham, was, i think, i shared a bedroom with him for most of our childhood, he had a lot of the same issues that i did but never really acknowledged them. Through the family, through my side of the family in particular, i think there are these stories that keep coming up and, you know, you need to confront them. You are honest in the book and talk about what it is like living with it and also, you know, a particular moment when you had a proper breakdown. This is a long time now, did you sense that coming now . Absolutely, but i was 26 years old and can remember thinking he is having a nervous breakdown. I did not know anything about a nervous breakdown and i phoned the guy he was working for at the time and i said i think alistair is having a nervous break down and he just brushed it aside and made me feel stupid. So i thought ok, i am wrong and he must be right and three weeks later he had a massive nervous breakdown. I like to think that today things would be different and an employer would take that more seriously and listen to the concerns of the Family Member who is raising a serious concern. It is quite something to phone his boss. And it took courage on my part because i was a minion in fleet street in those days. And you were helped, you are on the campaign trail with neil kinnock, and you started having what he referred to as a nervous breakdown. Ina public referred to as a nervous breakdown. In a public place. And you will luckily helped by a policeman . dont think i have given at a moments thought ever since, but i do think they saved my life in a way. Its not impossible i would have hit them, head butted demo got violent with them. I was hearing voices, i was just. With them. I was hearing voices, i wasjust. And with them. I was hearing voices, i was just. And yet something about them made me trust them, they were plain clothes policeman looking after neil kinnock that day. One of them said, uk . This is the first time ive ever said, no, them said, uk . This is the first time ive eversaid, no, im not. The other one said, do you think i should come with us . I didnt know who they were, and the next thing i was ina who they were, and the next thing i was in a Police Station, derny hospital. And that was the start the recovery. hospital. And that was the start the recovery. In a Police Station and ina recovery. In a Police Station and in a hospital. From your point of view and i know you talk about it, didnt you feel on occasion that this was your fault in some way . All the time. I blame myself. For 30 years i thought it mustve been something i was doing wrong so then i to get miserable about it. Eventually i realised it was not me but it was a manipulation going on with the blame was being transferred to me and i still cant explain it but i now know not to absorb it in the same way and i need to pull myself back and say he is going through this experience and i am doing my thing, but dont take the blame for it yourself. Clearly you have an extraordinarily strong relationship, also within your family as well. Is it a message of optimism, do you think, that someone like alistair, who has had very serious difficulties, can live with this thing called depression and it can be ok . I dont want to blow my own trumpet. Go on. But i do feel in a way he chose me because he knew somewhere there was a resilient person who was going to be able to support him through this thing. I chose you because you had a car. Oh, thats right. But i do think. The role of the partner, the support around you is important and at times of real crisis i was able to hang in there and i know other friends have contacted me to say they left their partner because they could not cope anymore. I know how that feels because i thought about it but i did not do it and in the end i am glad i did not because we have built something strong, but it is not easy. There will be some people watching that are in similar situations. What would be your advice . I know you get asked all the time. Dont absorb all the blame. Try to seek professional help. Help the other person recognise they have to get professional help, if you can get it, and that is a problem at the moment. And find something yourself to do. I did swimming pool. I would pound my way up and down the swimming pool, often crying, get all the rage out of my system, then i would try to be nice and supportive at home. Some people would laugh at this, Burnley Football Club is an important part of my Mental Health. Our dog is important part of my Mental Health. Ourdog is an important part of my Mental Health. Our dog is an important part of our Mental Health. One of the important things i have written the book four, is that i hope some body in their 20s or 30s reads it and doesnt take 30 or 40 years to work out that there are things that you can do. Everybody wants their life to seem perfect, especially with children, when you are judged as how you are asa when you are judged as how you are as a parent. Once you admit to it, it becomes easier, because everybody else says, yes, i went through this with my child, my sister has this, we should be talking about it openly. Its part of life. It is normal. Its not normal to be perfect. That is a very good point. Thank you both for being so honest and the book is brutally honest. I am sure it will resonate with many people. It was really insightful, being able to talk to them and not being. What did she say, that not being normal is ok . And also that thing about invisible heroes. So many people out there watching today, not only going through their own struggles but also the invisible heroes as well. Thank you to the pairof heroes as well. Thank you to the pair of them for talking to our programme. Alastair campbells new book is called living better how i learned to survive depression. Details of organisations offering Mental Health information and support are available at bbc. Co. Uk actionline. One thing we have talked about this morning which has caused a bit of debate, nina, it is not ninas fault, the problem is that this week and mince pies are going on sale in shops. We thought we would have a bit of a christmas theme. Some people think we are going too far by going to a grotto in liverpool selling christmas decorations. Karen and mark in warrington sent us this. Theyve had their tree up since march. They put it up at the start of lockdown and decorated it with rainbows for the nhs. They say its lovely seeing children smile when they go past and theyve decided to keep it up until christmas. Iimagine i imagine probably beyond. Yeah. He came onto the music scene in 2002 after being crowned the first winner of pop idol and his records have sold millions of copies in the years since. But in his new book, to be a gay man, will young talks about his struggles with shame and difficulty in accepting himself and his sexuality. Willjoins us now from london. Good morning. Good to see you. Thanks forjoining us. Im polishing silver. Is it for christmas . No, if i was allowed to turn my camera around, i have christmas baubles i have left up for about two years. Around, i have christmas baubles i have left up for about two yearsm that some sort of sworn you are polishing . Yes, my grandmother gave me this. Or i might have stolen it, i cant remember. A little salt cellar. So, i got to the stage of lockdown now, polishing silver. Send help i think we all need help with the silver. Ive written a book as well. You did write a book. Ive read a lot of the book. At the heart of it is this thing that you called 93v of it is this thing that you called gay shame, something you felt really own in your life . Gay shame is a particular type of shame that can happen to gay people, lgbt people, growing up in a straight, patriarchal world. Its all about the messages that can come in. Its got a lot better. What i did, i wa nted got a lot better. What i did, i wanted to forensically look at my life, and see where these messages came in, to show that they were external, they are not internal. Particularly when we are young, we internalise shame and it becomes this black, tarry substance. I want to show how you can get over gay shame, shame by noticing it is external input on us, rather than created in us. The last time we spoke to you, we were talking about your podcast, which im sure many of your podcast, which im sure many of your viewers will have listened to at some stage. Do you think some of the conversations you have had not have made writing a book easier . dont know, i dont do the podcast any more, my friends chris and alan do, but it did kind of inspired a book. A lot of people were writing on about gay shame. The thing is, i think the book is very useful, not only, hopefully, for lgbtq people, but also for people to understand, may be parents, friends of people who are gay, what it is like. Because we all need to educate ourselves. I was speaking about the black lives matter movement, and how in the last three months it has really co m e in the last three months it has really come into my remit. I need to educate myself. I am privileged, white, middle class man, and i need to see and understand, try to understand, what it is like for people to trade in different shoes to my own. One other thing is that you talk about in the book, you talk about dallas, you talk about the influences of what we see on telly. I dont know if you have been watching the programme, we were speaking to nicola adams, who will be on strictly, in the first same sex couple. What is your response to that . I think its really very good. I think its fantastic. As long as it is done in the right way, it is not done in a sensationalised way, a sort of cursory way, which i am sure it wont be. It could have happened even when i was on. I think its a great example of how things. I dont like to use the word normalise, i heard the wonderful Alistair Campbell interview, i forget his wifes name, sorry. Fiona. Partner. Fiona . Partner, sorry, fiona. And i loved what they we re sorry, fiona. And i loved what they were saying about invisible heroes. I call them everyday heroes, actually, it sounds like a fantastic book. I dont know, normal, actually, it sounds like a fantastic book. Idont know, normal, its just life, you know . Itsjust life, isnt it . Everyone is different, eve ryo ne isnt it . Everyone is different, everyone is unique. Its really annoying that we are running out of time this morning. I know, im annoyed, i was meant to be on at 8. 45. Sorry, explain about the black hands,is 8. 45. Sorry, explain about the black hands, is that the silver polishing . Yes, im not going to some kind of Jackson Pollock created breakdown. The book is out tomorrow and you can preorder it. I will tell everybody what it is called. Wills book is called to be a gay man. Thank you, and dan has clearly not a polished silver in his life, we know it gives you black hands. Thats because i havent got any silver. Are you still doing a triathlon . am. Will give you a call, i need advice breakfast will be back tomorrow from six. Bye bye. Good morning, welcome to bbc news, im victoria derbyshire. Here are the headlines. After almost six months at home, its back to school for millions more children in england and wales. Because we have been at home for so long, so it is very nice that we are able to come back to school and find new friends and things like that. Quite nervous, like i say, its my first day but i feel like it will be, like, nice meeting new people.
