Good morning. If you thought yesterday was blustery, it is even windier out there today. We may see a passing shower, and others, it will be a very wet day. I will tell you where with the sunday forecast coming up. Just after six oclock. Good morning to you. Its sunday june 28. Our top story the Prime Minister has pledged to speed up the delivery of major building and transport projects and avoid a return to the policies of austerity. Yes, borisjohnson will use a major speech on tuesday to set out his attempt to stimulate the uk economy following warnings from labour that the governments response to the Coronavirus Crisis is putting jobs at risk. Hell announce that a new group, called the infrastructure delivery taskforce, will be set up, promising a dramatic acceleration in delivering new schools, hospitals and transport schemes. The Prime Minister has been discussing his plans in an interview with todays mail on sunday. Our Political Correspondent nick eardley can tell us more. Give us a bit more detail on the Prime Ministers message. Give us a bit more detail on the Prime Ministers messagem give us a bit more detail on the Prime Ministers message. It will be another one of those important weeks in politics are borisjohnson sort of tries to reset the agenda, but talking about how to get the economy back on track after the Coronavirus Crisis. He is going to be talking about something that if you cast your mind back six months to the election that he spoke a lot about, this levelling up project, getting Infrastructure Projects off the ground as quickly as possible to try and get the economy moving. Things like schools, roads and hospitals. It is going to be called project because the message from the Prime Minister is stuff need to get moving quickly and it comes amid a lot of concern that we have been hearing over the past few weeks about the state of the economy, they were saying again this morning that if you dont invest in the economy and administers, then you could end up with millions of people unemployed. Businesses. The pm is going to try and get this front and centre of the agenda in a big speech on tuesday. This is money that had already been promised but he is saying he will accelerate those projects. He was also asked about his health and his personal life in this interview. About looking after the baby. Boris johnson a few weeks ago was in intensive care himself with coronavirus. Lots of questions over the last few weeks about how his health is doing, how he is looking. Have a look at this in the mail on sunday this morning. Borisjohnson doing push ups showing his fighting fit, saying he is as fit as a bulldog. He is trying to say he is at thejob, it bulldog. He is trying to say he is at the job, it will all be fine. He is also saying he is looking after this new young baby, wilfred, changing nappies, doing the work required of a new dad in the middle of the night. The fundamental message he is trying to get across to our soul after a few challenging weeks for the government is they have some plans for the next few weeks and months. Many thanks. Also in the news this morning. A private vigil has been held in reading for the families of three men who were stabbed to death in a park in the town last saturday. Khairi saadallah, who is 25, was charged with their murders yesterday, as well as the attempted murder of three others. Caroline davies has this report. Three families brought together from their loss. A week later they came together to remember their loved ones with community leaders, police, ambulance and politicians. Ones with community leaders, police, ambulance and politiciansm ones with community leaders, police, ambulance and politicians. It has been really important for us just to say reading is with you, standing with you and remembering together and supporting you in your grief. With you and remembering together and supporting you in your griefm was before 7pm on the 20th ofjune when eyewitnesses said they saw a lone attacker armed with a knife, shouting unintelligible words, adding towards a group. Three men we re adding towards a group. Three men were each stabbed once. David wales, joe Richard Bennett and james furlong. They all lost their lives. Three more people were also stabbed and sent to hospital but has since been released. The police have charged 25 year old Khairi Saadallah with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. There have been no terrorism related charges despite the police saying last sunday that they were treating the case of a terrorist incident. The families of the three men each lit a lantern for their loved ones. In reading and across the country, others were asked to remember in the same way, placing a candle in their window to remember the three men described as loving, honest and outstanding, whose lives were cut short. Caroline davies, bbc news. A leicester mp has called for a local lockdown after there were more than 600 recorded coronavirus cases in the first half ofjune. Labours Claudia Webbe said the area has what she called a perfect storm of poverty, Ethnic Diversity and existing covid i9 cases to justify bringing back the original lockdown rules. The department of health said it is supporting the local authority and has deployed four mobile testing sites. Lockdown restrictions have been reintroduced in some us states following a surge in coronavirus infections. Florida and texas are among the states that have ordered some businesses, including bars, to shut down again. Tanya dendrinos reports. Another day, another record. More than 9,500 new coronavirus cases in 2a hours in florida 600 more than the record set on friday. Republican states like florida and texas had been keen to push ahead with a reopening of their economies early, but with a surge in cases, some of those decisions have been reversed. Last drinks were called in florida a bitter pill to swallow for those who feel they did all the right things. We did everything. We our staff were Wearing Masks, we had sanitising stations, we did weekly tests, we limited occupancy. We did everything that was asked. Its a tough conversation to have with everybody that, you know, we wont be able to provide them with a place to work. On friday, bars were also ordered to close in texas, with restaurants required to limit their indoor capacity. We certainly share everybodys concern about whats going on, but we didnt think we were at that point where wed go backwards like that. Nationally, the us registered its largest single day increase of the pandemic with more than 16,000 new cases on friday. More than 125,000 people have now died of covid i9 the grim figure far higher than any other country when it comes to officially recorded deaths. Tanya dendrinos, bbc news. Police have named the man who was shot dead by armed officers during a knife attack in glasgow on friday. He was Badreddin Abadlla Adam, a 28 year old Asylum Seeker from sudan. Six people who were stabbed, including a Police Officer, are being treated in hospital. Theres been plenty of gardening going on during the lockdown, and now, the duchess of cambridge has mucked in. She helped with some planting during a visit to a childrens hospice in norfolk, as leigh milner reports. The duchess of cambridge wasnt afraid to get her hands or her dress dirty when she help families create a special garden at this Childrens Hospital in norwich, run by eight anglian childrens hospices, the look was open last year by catherine to support families caring for children with life threatening illnesses. Families like lisa anglian page and their three month old son, connor. Born with severe brain damage, he came to the hospice for end of life care. With the help of some fellow gardeners, the duchess hand picked the plants during a trip to a Garden Centre near her norfolk home. She chose strong smelling plans like lavender and herbs for the sensory garden, and planted a sunflower in memory of a little boy whose mother raised more than £18,000 for the hospice care for him shortly before he died. As the emblem of hospice care, families were given Sunflower Seeds to plant, just like her own children who had been racing to see whose will grow the fastest with prince louis currently in the lead. Leigh milner, bbc news. Gorgeous. The Rolling Stones have warned President Trump that you cant always have what you want when it comes to using their music. You cant always get what you want. The bands legal team says it will take legal action to stop mr trump using the song, as he did at a rally in tulsa last week. They are working with the performing rights organisation, the bmi, to stop the unauthorised use of their music. It is quite a strange political slogan to choose, you cant always get what you want. I suppose it is, isnt it . It is not the usual stuff, beaming optimism. It is us versus the rest type thing. It is us versus the rest type thing. It is us versus the rest type thing. It is not your dreams can come true. What opposite. It is not the first time politicians and musicians have had that. They monopoly share that view. They might not share that view. Lets take a look at todays front pages. A photograph of the Prime Minister mid workout dominates the mail on sundays front page as it leads with that borisjohnson interview weve been looking at this morning. It says he is promising what it calls a building blitz of Infrastructure Projects. You would never have seen theresa may doing that on the front page of a newspaper. The economy also features on the front of the observer, which says labour is warning that unemployment in britain could hit levels not seen since the 1980s. It also features a picture of british tennis stars andy murray and dan evans taking a knee in support of the black lives Matter Movement before their match yesterday. My corona miracle is the headline in the sunday mirror. It tells how an intensive care nurse gave birth to her daughter after surviving both Breast Cancer and coronavirus. And the scotsmans website leads with police naming the man shot by officers during a knife attack in glasgow on friday. Should we have a quick look at what is inside the papers this morning . Now. Ware has it gone . You been marking glastonbury this week . Idid marking glastonbury this week . I did flick on for a little bit. I am very much a festival on the Television Man rather than wellies. He didnt go to town . It has been interesting on social media looking at our people have been trying to re enact the festival. There is a couple who have the hot tub on the go, rocking out, looking at it on the ipad. They have even recreated the science, and what should have been the pyramid stage with a couple of cows looking slightly forlorn. I have to say been to glastonbury once in 2007 when it was a total washout, it is much better from the comfort of your house. Sales of hot tubs have been going through the roof . You cannot get one yes, over lockdown. In case you want to try and get one. Dont bother. You didnt answer my question. Have you bought one . No, not the size of my garden u nfortu nately. Lets have a look at the observer. Have you got these videos . These are fantastic andrew cotter, a Sports Reporter as does these terrific commentaries over his dog walks. 0liver commentaries over his dog walks. Oliver and mabel have become the stars of viral videos, trying to ta ke stars of viral videos, trying to take part in zoom calls. Does he do their voices . No, he is the voice of their master, so no, he is the voice of their master, so the authentic voice, but he is in conversation with them and read theirfacial conversation with them and read their facial expressions to knowledge the fact they may or may not be in agreement. They are well worth it. The observer picking out olive and mabel and andrew, and indeed, one or two others, may foster gets a mention as well. Iama big foster gets a mention as well. I am a big maybe fosterfan. Imagine my surprise when i started watching one of her videos and my voice came back, an interview i did. She did it well. You made it when you make those kind of videos. Terrific. It just shows of videos. Terrific. Itjust shows you. We will be sitting at home looking at our phones a lot more, it has generated these new things. But have a chat with nick with a look at this mornings weather. How is it looking . I suspect some of us will be indoors looking at our phones and not out into an unusually windy day. For some of us we will get heavy rain but not evenly distributed across the uk because for others it may be sunny spells and the odd passing shower. Were getting most of the rain into the western side of Northern Ireland, north west england, cumbria, especially into the hills, and western scotland. This is where the rain will continue because you are closest to this area of low pressure which is not moving very fast at all. Further south, a few passing showers but away from the very far north of scotland, it is really blustery and windier than yesterday. This is the focus for today and again the rain continuing across many of the same areas to give you a soaking day. These are the wind speeds. They are up compared to yesterday and particularly through north wales, Northern England, Northern Ireland and southern scotland, gusts of up to 50 Miles Per Hour. Looking around the uk this afternoon at apm. It is just the odd passing shower in this area. North west england, cumbria, lancashire and the western side of Northern Ireland, this is where it is looking very wet. 50 millimetres of rain, and in the high ground of cumbria could be over 100 millimetres. Very windy with all of that. Not much to the eastern side of her the pennines in terms of rain. We start the day tomorrow still on a blustery note. Low pressure close by and outbreaks of rain but it binds down a little bit, a gradual process. Some sunny spells along the south coast. The temperatures here, nothing above 20. In fact many falling well short of that and it sets the scene for the week ahead. Nowhere near as hot as last week. As you go into tuesday, more by the front coming in towards the south. It will be a fairly u nsettled the south. It will be a fairly unsettled week stop. As windy eventually as it has been of this we can have the chance of seeing a bit of rainfor can have the chance of seeing a bit of rain for everyone. Most of us will fall short of 21. As one is soaking up your meteorological observations, i am looking enviously at your hair. Really i have been fighting with this, done it, all morning. That is the product of hours of management. You are so kind, i am counting down, one week to a haircut. You have not had a tramp since march . one week to a haircut. You have not had a tramp since march . I have had a few hacks. Do not ask me to turn around, whatever you do. Just a ponytail down the back of his spine. Are you going to carry on growing yours . I think i am are you going to carry on growing yours . I think am a are you going to carry on growing yours . I think i am a week away from pigtails. It looks great, chris. Its time now for click, and this week, spencer and lara are looking into some futuristic food production. Hey, welcome to click, hope youre doing 0k. I dont know what its like where you are, but over here, restrictions are being lifted, and many, many more places are going to be able to reopen soon. Which, if im honest, feels a bit strange. I dont know how you feel about it, lara. Yeah, i think ive already adapted to some things about lockdown, although ill be very pleased to get this fixed, and also hospitality is reopening. So it means we can go to a restaurant. Ijust dont know how normal its going to feel sitting down and eating in one. Yeah, i dont think im ready to eat out yet, its weird, isnt it. It is, but i suppose it has been such a strange few months. The coronavirus has really affected pretty much everything, and the food and drinks industry is no exception. In the uk, by some estimates, up to 80 of our food is imported. So travel restrictions and controlled borders could be a real problem unless we can produce more food ourselves. Sojen copestakes been to visit a world first project where the aim is to create more food but cause less damage to the environment. One word sewage. Yes, sewage. Every year we produce Million Tonnes of it in the uk. And it produces its own waste heat. Interest is growing on how to use this waste heat as a Sustainable Energy source, and here in east anglia its being used in the building of a unique greenhouse project which could revolutionise our countrys farming industry. This will be the worlds first greenhouse that is using heat from a Water Treatment plant, and that has the benefit of not only reducing the impact on the environment but also reducing the uks need to import produce. In the uk we consume over 500,000 tonnes of fresh tomatoes every year. 80 of this, around 400,000 tonnes is imported. The same goes for cucumbers and peppers. We import 75 of our cucumbers and 90 of peppers. These new greenhouses could not only help make the uk self sufficient in produce, but also reduce Carbon Emissions by 75 . So ben, were now walking into the greenhouse, blimey, its really, really big. Certainly one of the largest in terms of the uk. For every hectare of normal land, a greenhouse like this can produce ten times more food using ten times less water. Wed be looking at growing probably about 23 million peppers a year in this particular facility. Wow, so what is that as a percentage of the amount of consumption of peppers in the uk . Id say probably 5 . A conventional greenhouse might use fossil fuels to provide its heat by burning gas or oil, but here the waste heat from the nearby sewage works is pumped 2. 5 kilometres via an enclosed loop system to the greenhouse. The idea to use this waste heat came from thermal engineer neil lawson. Well, it was inspiration from nature really, walking down the river with the dog on a winters day, saw a stream coming in from the left and it was steaming and the ducks were sitting there enjoying the warmth, so i followed that stream to its source, and came up to the Sewage Treatment works. They were discharging 1000 litres a second of clean water into the river, at up to 25 degrees centigrade. That equates to sa megawatts worth of waste heat. Thats enough heating for about 15,000 homes. Using Geographic Information system mapping, 43 sites close to wastewater centres have been identified around the country, including the anglian Water Treatment plant near bury st edmunds. So were now at the water recycling plant, where this treated water will then be pumped into a station and the heat will be removed from that process, and then the heat will be transferred to the greenhouse. Were taking a low source of energy which is otherwise a waste energy, using heat pumps to upgrade or compress that low grade heat to make it useful heat to heat a greenhouse. A greenhouse uses a lot of energy, here we have an abundant source available. Another benefit to this new farming technique is reducing reliance on countries where water is no longer so abundant. Parts of southern spain, actually, their groundwater now is saline. And theyre having to develop saline resistant crops. Whereas here in the uk we dont have that problem, it rains all the time. We can get all the water we need from capturing it on the roof and recycling it. And thats not all the roof can do. And the entire roof is designed to maximise the amount of light that comes into it, so much so that the glass is diffuse and it enables the light to be spread evenly across the entire crop. It is actually quite remarkable, it might look unassuming but actually theres a lot of Artificial Intelligence included in the environmental computers. All the vents are controlled by by Artificial Intelligence. They re constantly scanning met office data for prevailing wind directions. The trend for computer driven farming is growing. A six month autonomous greenhouse competition was recently held in the netherlands. Teams fully automated the process of growing tomatoes. Sensors, camera detection and models provided the needed information to get the plants their exact nutrients. And of course robots play a role in greenhouse production and here they will be deployed to help carry vegetables around the central aisle to the pack house. There are no plans to use robots like this sweeper bot to help pick produce, yet. But the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the need to think about growing food locally and perhaps with limited human involvement. No one knows what the future holds, so with this particular pandemic, lets say, it could, the virus could mutate and all of a sudden we dont have enough food. Weve benefited from Unrestricted Movement and Free Movement of goods as well, and that may be set to change. If we dont have a bit more resilience in the uk on ourfood production, there could be issues down the line. These issues could disappear depending on the success of this project. If all 43 sites were up and running, low Carbon Farming say they could produce all of the uks tomato requirements and at least half of its peppers. Until then, the first shipments from here are expected to hit the supermarkets next spring. 0k, before we go, wejust had to get our hands on some tech. A few months back, we sent our resident baker, 0mar mehtab, to play sous chef to an a controlled pizza robot and this is what happened. Pizza, arguably the comfiest of comfort foods, and its eaten by the millions daily around the world. And this one here was put together by a robot. Developed by picnic, this modular machine is set to put together around 300 pizzas per hour. That is so many that youd need three of those big ovens to cope with that amount. But those still need to be prepped by human but from there, its completely automated. Now, to get this machine running, first you select what kind of pizza you want on this tablet. Once youve done that, you place the dough inside, underneath this sensor right here, and what that does is it works out the exact location of that dough. Whys that . Because it needs to work out where exactly those ingredients need to be placed on the pie. There are four modules for sauce, cheese, vegetables and meat. But a restaurant offering more on the menu can add however many they want. In between each ingredient module is a camera and this camera takes pictures of each stage of the pizza making process. It then sends those pictures back to the ai so it can analyse them and improve itself over time. So the more pizzas it makes, the better it gets. So what you should get in the end is the perfect pizza. But theres one thing that i still have to do, which is take it from this machine and put it in here so it can bake. What were doing is were digitising what has been a completely manual process. So were capturing data about ingredient usage, ordering patterns, eliminate sometimes you have food waste because you bought too much of an ingredient, you didnt use it. People can order directly off of their phone and the system can tell the customer exactly when their pizza will be ready because itll know where it is in the queue. Right, now, im going to put this machine to the test. A taste test. I dabble in a bit of baking myself so im going to bake my own pizza and compare the two and see which one comes out better. Two, one. And its ripped, oh hey. And this means i can be as specific as i want as i go along, like taking out some black olives, and adding extra cheese on top. Things the machine cant do, but, if youre inexperienced like me, that may come with a price. I cant get it off. Oh, no. The reason why we only have a third of a pizza in this box is because the rest of it is, um, its stuck to the mesh. Laughs. And now, to taste. I think you can tell which ones which. First, mine. Yeah, all right, ill be honest, it was awful. Mmm and the machines . 0h, sod it ok, i lost. The Company Plans to create new systems to make a wide variety of foods including sandwiches and salads. But is there a danger that the restaurants who use this machine could have very similar food to each other . But is there a danger that the restaurant who use this machine could have very similar food to each other . When we encounter a customer, we want to use their ingredients, their style, however they like to make their pizza. Its not a uniform one size fits all pizza. Its not like a manufacturing set up. We want to make the same pizza that the chef is already making, just make it much more consistency and make it much more easily, with lower food waste. So these machines could fill up the kitchens of pizzerias in the future, unless you want to stick to a humans touch. Well, not mine. Can someone help . Man loves his food, man loves his food that was 0mar. And thats it for the shortcut of this weeks click. The full length version is waiting for you right now on iplayer. You can keep track of the team throughout the week on social media, on youtube, instagram, facebook and twitter bbcclick. Thanks for watching and well see you soon. Bye bye. Hello. This is breakfast with chris mason and nina warhurst. Good morning. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. The Prime Minister has pledged to speed up the delivery of major building and transport projects following warnings from labour that the governments response to the Coronavirus Crisis will create unemployment levels not seen since the 1980s. A new taskforce, led by the chancellor, will aim to fast track the building of hospitals, schools and roads across the uk. In an interview with the mail on sunday, borisjohnson said the uk will not return to the austerity of ten years ago. A private vigil has been held in reading for the families of three men who were stabbed to death in a park in the town last saturday. Khairi saadallah, who is 25, was charged with their murders yesterday, as well as the attempted murder of three others. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on monday. Lockdown restrictions have been reintroduced in some us states following a surge in coronavirus infections. Several states, including florida and texas, have ordered bars to close again just weeks after allowing them to reopen. Coronavirus cases across the country have passed 2. 5 million and more than 125,000 people have died with the disease. Time to get a round up of the sport. It isa time to get a round up of the sport. It is a joy to be able to even say that. A football drought for three months and now a football flood. Everywhere you turn, including last night on bbc one. It is non stop wall to wall at the moment. There is a return of the premier league and we have spoken so much about liverpools triumphant the premier league. It is easy to forget there is some pretty big trophy is still out there to win this season. That includes the Champions League and the fa cup as well. Late drama as it returned yesterday, Manchester United becoming the first team into the semifinals. I think you might be pleased about that, chris. They needed an extra time win over norwich that leaves 0le Gunnar Solskjaer in the hunt for a first piece of silverware as united manager. Adam wild was watching. The fa cup like so much else has been made to west. It was scheduled for the end of march. Instead, this was the first ever fa cup tire to be played in june. Was the first ever fa cup tire to be played injune. The wait was a real excitement, though, was a little longer. It was the second half of all finally an opportunity presented else. Improvising a finish 1 0 united. Despite the troubles in the premier league, norwich fought all the way. An excellent equalising effort just reward for those endeavours. They would have to play out extra time a man down. A little too close. With the prospect of penalties, legal drama was becoming inevitable. Harry maguire the man to eventually provided. The winning goal with just eventually provided. The winning goal withjust moments eventually provided. The winning goal with just moments remaining. United made to wait for it. But in this years delayed competition, that perhaps feels fitting. Not sure i am sure they will be keeping their eyes peeled on the draw. That comes later. Alan shearer conducting it on bbc1 at half time as newcastle host Manchester City, one of the three remaining ties today. In the premier league, times running out for aston villa, beaten by wolves 1 0, Leander Dendoncker with the goal yesterday. The only goal of the game. Villa have played a game more than everyone else in and around the relegation zone, and remain in the bottom three. Leeds took a big step towards a long awaited return to the premier league with a 3 0 win at home to fulham. Leeds have been out of the top flight for 16 years, but a 3 0 win over fulham took them back to the top of the championship, and, more importantly, well clear of the sides chasing the automatic promotion spots. Seven games left to play, its looking more and more likely that leeds will be back in the premier league next season. Northern ireland have named Ian Baraclough as their new manager, replacing michael 0neill. Hes been in charge of their under 21 side for the past three years. His first match comes away to romania in september before attempting to guide the squad to next years European Championship through the play offs in october. Andy murray says hes pleased with his progress despite being knocked out of the battle of the brits exhibition tournament. Its been murrays first competitive tennis in seven months as he recovers from injury. He lost to dan evans in what was a very entertaining semifinal at the National Tennis centre in roehampton. And murray says that with a major tournament on the horizon, this week has been a good gauge of his recovery. I wont be going to the us open preparing for the event for this one. Iam practising preparing for the event for this one. I am practising three orfour days a week in the build up to progressively build up my load over this next period. I didnt want to go from doing nothing to a huge spike in load, and it was a big step up spike in load, and it was a big step up this week. Physically relatively well. He has clearly carefully managed his load as he gears up towards the us 0pen, which would be glad to see him back we dont have wimbledon this summer, do wear, and no british summer summer, do wear, and no british summer would be complete without a side of andy murray on the tennis court somewhere. Yeah. I was wondering last night, we we re yeah. I was wondering last night, we were edging towards a penalty shootout and i was thinking this feels like a conventionaljune. We are due to have an International Tournament this summer and suddenly there could be a penalty shootout to watch on saturday night, and a few minutes to go. It feels a bit like football because the games are coming so thick and fast, it feels like you have that tournament atmosphere going on at the moment. As we know, no tournament is complete without the odd penalty shootout or two. So much pent up enthusiasm to watch the sport that it does does feel exciting regardless most of the action on the field. Good morning to you. The lockdown has been hard for all of us, but harder still if you have a child that needs round the clock care. And although many hospices have had to cut back on their usual respite care services, staff have been finding new ways to give parents a much needed break. 0ur scotland correspondent lorna gordon has been finding out more. Doing this today, agreement today. But i love going to the four seasons and talking. You have mentioned it is a film that has been released in an election year, it is about us politics. Just explain a little bit about it. It is set in the political world of financing and the democrats and republicans and zeros in on a small town in rural wisconsin really reflects the biggest state of politics and how this tiny little towns are not usually important to strategists and how they become symbolic of the greater landscape of american politics. And reallyjust sort of exposing the corrupt system thatis sort of exposing the corrupt system that is in place in terms of the money involved in the politics in america. You cant win. They are getting desperate. This is really just another perfect example of them trying to dictate. I am from here. You play my faith to is described as a total. And a what i cannot possibly use on stv, that another baby how do you describe her . |j think baby how do you describe her . think she is a political animal. They we re and i am just getting started. They were like two companion pieces in a way, it really reverse engineered where we are today and irresistible is very much the current politics and the agendas and huge personalities. I felt like i and the agendas and huge personalities. Ifelt like i had a crash course, i thought i knew about it, about the political machinations of america. It turns out there is a lot going on. How many women lot going on. How many women are lot going on. How many women are going to be forced to give birth to babies while we wait for housewives who have no idea what it is like to work to survive, feel comfortable with women having power . How long do we get people to adapt to change . An incredible cast, this is america, and what are the essentials to playing your character . A really good week. That is essential. Incredible nails if you get the hair right. Piece of cake. The production. The project as a whole was so enticing. The tapestry of this part of history with these incredible characters and how much influence the feminist movement had politically in that time and we have yet to reach the heights of that today. And how it really stands on the shoulders of second and first wave feminism. I am intrigued to find out which roles actors get recognised for out in the street. With you, i imagine a lot of them would be bridesmaids, damages. Anyone under ten, peter rabbit must be the go to film. Yes, love my peter rabbit found that they are the best, my favourites. Again. Lets check on the weather. If you thought yesterday was windy, it is even windier. Some will get a passing shower and see a bit of sun occasionally, others will get persistent and at times heavy rain. We have already had that through Northern Ireland but particularly this rain running into southwest scotla nd this rain running into southwest scotland and north west england. For many the rain will continue throughout the day and the rain total starting to mount with the risk of flooding. It is notjust the rain but also the strength of the wind which in some spots will be gusting 40 50 Miles Per Hour. Unusually windy for the time of year. From the western side of scotla nd year. From the western side of scotland into lancashire and into Northern Ireland. Especially the western side where we will see the lion share of the rain. Some sunny spells for south wales, midlands and southern england. These are your wind gusts. Not everyone likes to heat and humidity, they may appreciate that and a bit of rain. Varied, wonderful euphemism. Its time now for the film review with mark kermode. Hello and welcome to the film review with me, mark kermode. Rounding up the best movies available for viewing in the home. The most fascinating and mysterious new release is the french drama, the girl with a bracelet. Stephane demoustiers remake remake of the argentine film, the accused, which is available exclusively on curzon home cinema. Melissa guers is impenetrable and enigmatic as lise, the teenager charged with the murder of her best friend who was found stabbed in her bed after a party sleepover. From the opening scene from which the Police Arrive on a beach to arrest her come up to the courtroom proceedings to which we hear that she is the only suspect in this terrible crime, or subject shows little or no emotion. When asked how she feels about the loss of her friend, she was reportedly angry with for posting on the video, she seems unmoved and strangely silent. Is she in shock, reeling from the trauma is she in shock, reeling from the trauma of the murder and the subsequent trial . Or is it she simply a cold blooded killer . Thats a question the film wants us to answer for ourselves, offering only conjecture and speculation as to what really happened leaving us, like thejury, to weigh out the evidence. Its a precarious balancing act that the film pulls off with great aplomb challenging the rituals of grief and the displays of emotion through which we are expected to judge guilt or innocence. While the parents turmoil is clear and present, their daughter remains coolly detached removed from the drama playing out around her. Watching events unfold through glass. Alone and inscrutable. Volcano man theres nothing inscrutable about Eurovision Song Contest the story of fire saga. An entertaining romp starring will ferrell and Rachel Mcadams as the icelandic hopefuls who wind up representing their country and the music extravaganza after a terrible accident obliterates the competition literally. So we are in . Yeah. Hey baby when you look at me. Its easy to sneer at eurovision, but for those of us who love it and arent afraid to say so, this good hearted musical comedy strikes just the right note. Approaching its subject with a mix of affectionate humour and appropriately outrageous camp pastiche. The plot may be ripped off an old episode of father ted, but theres plenty to enjoy, not least a bare chested dan stevens stealing the show as the beefcake russian favourite, a role which allows screenwriters will ferrell and Andrew Steele to take satirical swipes at the kremlins homophobia while celebrating the inclusivity which lies at the very heart of eurovision. 0h theres a timely reminder that in the current climate, everyone hates the uk. The film is available on netflix now. Democrats are getting their asses kicked. We need some way to road test a more rural friendly message. If you cant live your principles and the bad times, i guess they arent principals, and just hobbies. Nice. John wayne and a tractor have a baby, and all you can say is nice . From musical comedy to political satire in the form ofjon stewarts irresistible. No, no, no, thats a lie. Thats a lie. No. Youre lying. Steve carell and rose byrne play warring Campaign Consultants who descend on a small midwestern town in an attempt to swing a Mayoral Election to their respective political advantage. Chris cooper is colonel jack hastings, a veteran marine and salt of the earth farmer who seems to embody everything the democrats need but sorely lack. Can i be completely honest with you, no bull . That would be nice. But carells gary, he is bill clinton with impulse control or a churchgoing Bernie Sanders with better bone density. And so gary attempts to persuade jack to stand for mayor. Yeah, were the good guys. Throwing behind him the kind of High Tech Campaign that attracts National Attention and national dollars. Meanwhile, byrnes faith shows up to fight to the republican corner as a local election becomes a bellwetherfor greater things. Pitched somewhere between the appointed barbs of Barry Levinsons wag the dog, and the fish out of water charm of bill forsyths local hero, it is Broad Strokes fair. Hardly radical, but still entertaining nonetheless. Do you have a bottle opener . No, its just a twist, twist off. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Maybe he does need a bottle opener. Use your vest. Most importantly the nonpartisan action does not try to tie the sickness of american politics to one party or another. Instead, stewart who proved himself an astute political commentator on the daily show takes aim at a system in which money and power ride roughshod over the interests of ordinary people, whatever their party affiliations. Worth noting that irresistible reminds us of the pitfalls of underestimating the so called common people. Who in capra esque fashion proved more than a match for the elites who try to use them to play politics. Drew was a young, powerful something who cared so much about this music. And so went defjam called me and was lax, Russell Simmons wants to offer you this job as a director of a and r at defjam i could not have scripted it better. If you want something more grounded in reality then why not check out on the record . An eye opening documentary from kirby dick and amy kearing. I did not tell that many people about what happened with russell. Following exposes of sexual abuse within the film industry, on the record centres on drew dixons mistreatment within the music business. Specifically at the hands of defjam co founder Russell Simmons. I would never hurt anybody. Having left a high profile career in a and r, dixon is seen struggling with whether or not to go public several years later as other women come forward with experiences strikingly similar to her own. He said he looked at her the other day and realised my daughter is not a victim any more, shes a warrior. And i thought, i would like to be a warrior. Im tired of being a victim. Ive been a victim for 22 years. Let me see with the other thing feels like. Its powerful, intelligent fare deftly negotiating the intersecting strands of sexism and racism which make it particularly difficult for these women to tell their stories lending an important voice to the Metoo Movement that had previously been silenced. Dearly beloved friends, we gather here. Sneeze. In this time of mans greay inn0cence. Inn0cence . I will leave you with news that the thoroughly modern adaptation of Jane Austens Emma is now available on dvd and blu ray. Anya taylorjoy is excellent as austens handsome, clever and rich heroine Emma Woodhouse while johnny flynn combines vulnerability with a weapons grade animal magnetism notably absent from austens novel as mr knightley. Ms woodhouse such news sighting bringing up baby as an inspiration alongside john hughes coming of age movies, rock photographer and music video veteran de wilde takes flirtatious liberties with austens source. An approach that pays crowd pleasing dividends as it reduces the complexities of the text to a caricature screen romp. Talking over each other. Thats it for this week, thanks for watching the film review, saty safe, the film review, stay safe, and i will be back next week with more home viewing treats. Fight for your dream of a life with her, fight like a viking sorry to disturb but you two do know that iceland it into the eurovision finals . What . Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with chris mason and nina warhurst. 0ur headlines today build our way back to health the Prime Ministers plan to rescue the economy by fast tracking new schools, hospitals and transport projects. As coronavirus cases in the us surge to more than 2. 5 million, florida becomes the latest state to reimpose lockdown. As reading remembers the three men stabbed to death in a park a week ago, a 25 year old man is charged with murder. No crowds, but theres still late drama in the fa cup as Manchester United beat norwich to become the first team to reach the semifinals. Good morning. If you thought yesterday was blustery, it is even windier out there today. Some of us might seea windier out there today. Some of us might see a passing shower. For others, it will be a very wet day. I will tell you where with the sunday forecast coming up. Good morning to you. Its sunday june 28. Our top story the Prime Minister has pledged to speed up the delivery of major building and transport projects and avoid a return to the policies of austerity. Borisjohnson will use a major speech on tuesday to set out his attempt to stimulate the uk economy following warnings from labour that the governments response to the Coronavirus Crisis is putting jobs at risk. Hell announce that a new group called the infrastructure delivery taskforce will be set up, promising a dramatic acceleration in delivering new schools, hospitals and transport schemes. The Prime Minister has been discussing his plans in an interview with todays mail on sunday. 0ur Political Correspondent nick eardley can tell us more. Nick, what message is the Prime Minister trying to send exactly . Lots of words, lots of rhetoric in this interview. What is the detail . It looks like it is going to be another busy week for us at westminster because borisjohnson has a speech on tuesday to set out his vision for how the economy tries to recover after the Coronavirus Crisis, and as you have been saying, the big idea he has is to speed up some of those projects that he was talking about during the election. Believe it or not it was only six months ago that the conservatives we re months ago that the conservatives were talking about levelling up agenda and morrison borisjohnson will talk about getting those shovel ready Infrastructure Projects, things like hospitals, schools, transport, get them moving as quickly as possible, using the example of the nhs nightingale hospitals we have seen over the last weeks. We did that really quickly. There is no reason we cant do this other things really quickly as well. We have talking for the last few weeks about some of the real worries about what will happen to the economy over the next few months, labour are talking this morning about projectjobs, labour are talking this morning about project jobs, making labour are talking this morning about projectjobs, making sure that we dont end up with mass unemployment over the next few months. There is definitely a huge challenge there. And as i say over the next few days we will try and find out more about what the government thinks the potential a nswe rs government thinks the potential answers could be. Tell us about press ups and nappies not my level of expertise normally, but borisjohnson, not my level of expertise normally, but Boris Johnson, we not my level of expertise normally, but borisjohnson, we know he was really ill with coronavirus just a few weeks ago and there have been questions over how his health is, he sometimes looks tired, sounded a bit wheezy. Look at this. It is his attempt in the mail on sunday this morning to show that he is as fit as a bulldog. Press ups on the floor of his office at downing street. I am not sure we have seen many his office at downing street. I am not sure we have seen many other Prime Minister is doing that in the past. I cant imagine theresa may doing press ups on the floor, but he is trying to say to everybody is doing all right, his health is fine, he has been looking after his newborn baby wilfred in the middle of the night, doing all those fatherly duties, and to use his own words, he will try and prove the economy can get back to fighting fit over the next few days as well. 0nly over the next few days as well. Only six days ago in england until trimdependence day. A leicester mp has called for a local lockdown in the city after more than 600 coronavirus cases were recorded in the first half ofjune. The city mayor says a decision on any action will be taken when the latest data is analysed. The department of health says it is supporting the local authority and has deployed four mobile testing sites. Lockdown restrictions have been reintroduced in some us states following a surge in coronavirus infections. Florida and texas are among the states that have ordered some businesses, including bars, to shut down again. Tanya dendrinos reports. Another day, another record. More than 9,500 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours in florida 600 more than the record set on friday. Nationally, the us registered its largest single day increase of the pandemic with more than 45,000 new cases on friday. More than 125,000 people have now died of covid 19 the grim figure far higher than any other country when it comes to officially recorded deaths. Tanya dendrinos, bbc news. A private vigil has been held in reading for the families of three men who were stabbed to death in a park in the town last saturday. Khairi saadallah, who is 25, was charged with their murders yesterday, as well as the attempted murder of three others. Caroline davies has this report. Three families brought together from their loss. A week on from the attack in reading, they came together to remember their loved ones with community leaders, police, ambulance and politicians. Its been really important for us just to say, you know, reading is with you, is standing with you and remembering together and supporting you in your grief. It was before 7pm onjune 20 when eyewitnesses said they saw a lone attacker armed with a knife, shouting unintelligible words, heading towards a group. Three men were each stabbed once david wails, Joe Ritchie Bennett and james furlong. They all lost their lives. Three more people were also stabbed and sent to hospital, but have since been released. The police have charged 25 year old Khairi Saadallah with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. There have been no terrorism related charges despite the police saying last sunday that they were treating the case as a terrorist incident. The families of the three men each lit a lantern for their loved ones. In reading and across the country, others were asked to remember in the same way, placing a candle in their window to remember the three men described as loving, honest and outstanding, whose lives were cut short. Caroline davies, bbc news. Police have named the man who was shot dead by armed officers during a knife attack in glasgow on friday. He was Badreddin Abadlla Adam, a 28 year old Asylum Seeker from sudan. Six people who were stabbed, including a Police Officer, are being treated in hospital. Betting companies who fail to protect problem gamblers should be named and shamed thats according to a report by a committee of mps. The Commons Public Accounts Committee also criticises the gambling regulator, accusing it of being slow and weak. Our Business Correspondent katy austin has more. What if i told you that. The gambling industry is changing. People are increasingly gambling online, including placing bets on their mobile phones and new risks are emerging. The Gambling Commission estimates there are 395,000 problem gamblers in Great Britain with a further 1. 8 Million People at risk. Protection has been strengthened. For example, praying paying strengthened. For example, praying paying with credit card was banned in april. The committee of today accused the government of the department of media and sports of being complacent and criticise the regulator, saying it was toothless and needed to respond to problems more quickly. It has taken a number of years on many other issues for fixed and betting terminals, several yea rs fixed and betting terminals, several years to get to a position where there is now a £2 maximum stay, but there is now a £2 maximum stay, but theissueis there is now a £2 maximum stay, but the issue is now online and recommendations for the commission to come forward urgently with proposals to make sure that online text betting is effectively regulated as it is on the high street. The Committee Also called for a league table to be published of gabbin operators behaviour towards customers so gabbin operators behaviour towards customers so poor gabbin operators behaviour towards customers so poor performers could be named and shamed. In a statement, the Gambling Commission said it was committed to making further and faster progress to address gambling harms and it introduced various measures over the past two years. But it was considering what additional steps that would take. A dcms spokesperson emphasised a wave of tough measures had been reintroduced, but that it recognised there is more to do, saying the law will be reviewed to ensure it is fit for the digital age. Theres been plenty of gardening going on during the lockdown, and now, the duchess of cambridge has mucked in. She helped with some planting during a visit to a childrens hospice in norfolk, and revealed that her family are having a sunflower growing competiton, with prince louis currently holding the bragging rights. We will keep you updated on that. Some parents will not take the names of some flowers to make sure eve ryo ne of some flowers to make sure everyone has a fair go. Suddenly you are the leading su nflower suddenly you are the leading sunflower but it was your little sister bothered sunflower. That is an interesting parenting tips. Tough lessons in life. The Rolling Stones have warned President Trump that you cant always get what you want when it comes to using their music. You cant always get what you want. The bands legal team says it will take legal action to stop mr trump using the song, as he did at a rally in tulsa last week. They are working with the performing rights organisation, the bmi, to stop the unauthorised use of their music. Holiday firms are reporting a surge in bookings in the last 24 hours after the government announced plans to drop quarantine measures for travellers returning to the uk from selected countries. Those new rules will be in place from july 6, but is it really safe to start taking foreign holidays during a Global Pandemic . Lets speak now to dr Margaret Harris from the World Health Organization. Good morning to you. Good morning. How are you . Oh well, thank you. Nice to see you. Its travelling abroad a good idea at the moment . Any kind of travel, any movement anywhere within the country or outside the country is something you have to do with a risk assessment. As an individual if you are thinking of travelling, find out where you are going, what the requirements are, what the level of transmission is and be prepared that you may not be able to do it because we are seeing optics everywhere, things are changing quite rapidly, so it would be, people need to be aware that things can change. Yes, and all of those considerations which are perfectly sensible might not leave you particularly in the holiday spirit. People thinking about the risky things in the project process of going on holiday, sitting ona process of going on holiday, sitting on a plane and wearing a face mask potentially for several hours, touching things on the plane or elsewhere and lots of other people might have touched for instance. Yes, and also, Different Countries have Different Things they ask of you, you may be asked to provide evidence that you have a test or you may be somewhere where they ask you to ta ke may be somewhere where they ask you to take a test and it might cost quite a bit of money. Most planes will, i expect, ask you to wear a mask while you are in the plane because it is impossible to socially distance of course in the plane, no matter how much effort, and they will make fantastic effort, airlines are very, will make fantastic effort, airlines are very, very good at hygiene. You still cant ensure people are socially distance, and you are right, you will need that hand sanitiser in your bag at the ready all the time to make sure that your hands are as clean as possible. Will you be taking a foreign holiday this summer . No, i am busy dealing with a pandemic to be honest, i did take a week off, and what i did was sleep and catch up with family via magazine. That seems perfectly sensible to recharge the batteries when you are working at the World Health Organization in the middle of a pandemic zoom. We were reporting a couple of nights ago the spike in cases in the us now passing 2. 5 millionjust as spike in cases in the us now passing 2. 5 million just as lockdown easing in parts of the country have been relaxed. I wonder what your reflections a re relaxed. I wonder what your reflections are on what is happening in america . Of course, nobody wants to see this. I heard people say they have worked really ha rd to i heard people say they have worked really hard to take all the precautions. The problem is, if you have mass gatherings, people close together and also, unfortunately, one of the big risks with lockdown is they buy your town but, as you ease them, the message to the community is, oh, it is over or as a message is now is the time to live with the virus but that is a hard one to get through and hard to have two loaded by having these huge increases of case numbers. It is a su btle increases of case numbers. It is a subtle message so it is difficult, because it is not the blanket stay at home message got used to a couple of months ago in the uk stock but it is hard for governments to formulate a message that people can properly adjust and understand and the dangers, as you were hinting at, is people flock out to the beaches, jumping on planes and there is a very big spike. Governments have a very big spike. Governments have a very big spike. Governments have a very big job now stop they are dealing with an existential threat, a virus killing far too many of us, but they also have to deal with trying to find a way to navigate this new world, this new life that we all need to learn to live. So bringing the community, bringing people with you, listening to your people with you, listening to your people and what might be possible and doing it at the local level as best you can works as well. Listening to the local authorities, what is going on into their communities, what may need to be done differently, is the most effective way. Doctor harris, you hint at repeatedly about how long should get used to this pandemic lasting. What is your reflection on where we are at the moment and are you optimistic . I am optimistic because i really believe in people andi because i really believe in people and i have seen so many fantastic things. The efforts of the nhs Health Workers you cannot take your hat off often enough, but also the scientists who got together early, first week of february, they we re early, first week of february, they were they in geneva or on zoom, working out what the questions were that needed to be answered. More than 100 vaccine candidates being researched. A couple already going into the last level of human trials. We have some more information about which therapeutics are most likely to be affected if stop so we have moved very rapidly. The thing is that people want to see this virus go away but it is not going to go away. That is the hard message. We have to learn to live with it. Thank you for your time and expertise and glad to hear you manage to have some time off what is an extraordinary time off what is an extraordinary time for you. And a positive message. Look at how scientists and others have stepped up. Lets get some weather. What a shot that is behind you. Big weather contrasts. For some of you, this is the start of the day. Much of southern england, it will be dry, apart from the chance of a passing shower but that is not the whole story because for some of us it isa whole story because for some of us it is a wet start to the day continuing with heavy rain and wind injust about continuing with heavy rain and wind in just about across the uk. Windier than yesterday. Take a look at the rainfall over the past few hours, running in towards north wales but especially north west england, western spuds of scotland and Northern Ireland, especially the further west you. Many errors will continue to see that rain, heavy and persistent at times through the day. They are closest to this system of low pressure. That is bringing some rain and also wind as well. A very blustery day. The focus continues to push that rain into Northern Ireland towards western scotland, north west england into north wales stop looking really went over lancashire, and this rain could have amassed 100 millimetres and they could be some flooding and disruption as a result. Gusting winds, 40 50 Miles Per Hour. These will be the strongest gusts here. At four oclock, some sunshine still for southern england, south wales and into east anglia. A few showers passing through quite quickly on the wind. More persistent rainfall north wales, especially snowdonia. North east england 20 of cloud just not as wet as it is going to be further west. Temperatures around mid teens for many of us. It stays wet and many of the areas that have been wet through the day into tonight and stays windy as well and the temperatures do not get very warm today. We will see a bit of rain into Northern Ireland and north west england. Its does winding down during the day but quite windy still. Probably more cloud across the southern half of england and wales compared to today. Those temperatures not very often but certainly recently nothing above 20 degrees. From june intojuly, it stays fairly unsettled. Another weathered disturbance features that will start to take cloud and rain across southern parts of the uk. While it is not wet all the time, it will be wet occasionally and still quite breezy just not will be wet occasionally and still quite breezyjust not as windy as it will be at the start of the week. Most temperatures around the mid to high teens. If you do not enjoy the heat and humidity last week, this is much more bearable. A changeable week of british summer weather to come. Another euphemism. It is really noticeable. 0nce come. Another euphemism. It is really noticeable. Once you get out of your house, if the heavens opened you cannot get dry. Of course, how quickly can you sprint all that warm weather has lulled us into that sense of security and getting rid of our codes. The Prime Minister has promised we will not go back to the austerity of ten years ago as he prepares to unveil his plan on how the uk economy will recover following the coronavirus pandemic. Supporting the economy has cost the government billions of pounds, so how these latest promises will be paid for is yet to be revealed. Were joined now by former Government Economic adviser, vicky pryce. Good morning and thank you for joining us. You worked closely after the 2008 crash with the government. Is this the right decision at this point to keep on spending . The problem is, although the economy is moving upa problem is, although the economy is moving up a little bit from the depths he has fell into in the last couple of months, there has been a huge amount of extra support from the government and it will need that support for some time to come. 0ne needs to look where the money might make the greatest difference. At the time of the financial crisis we flew but a lot of money in the economy not know exactly what was going to stick and that is the important thing. We do not actually know right now whether some of the support we have given so far will do the trick. We do not know how many people on the scheme will end up joining the ra nks the scheme will end up joining the ra n ks of the scheme will end up joining the ranks of the unemployed. It could be a substantial number. What you do once that scheme is finished . 0ne a substantial number. What you do once that scheme is finished . One of those areas is infrastructure spending. Where is the money to come from . Already there is some here marked for infrastructure at the time of the march budget if we can remember that far back. A huge emphasis on levelling up and improving the conditions in various regions. If you spent sensibly, infrastructure is a multilayer effect on the economy, such as housing but also roads and so on and those had been promised anyway so that money was expected to come at some point but your question is, so much money has really been spent, how much more may be deemed to borrow to do the things we had promised to be done . Do we need to reframe our perception of debt . We have been conditioned to see that as a bad thing but actually it is a necessity at the moment to keep things moving . There is no other option unfortunately. The markets have been very willing to lend to us at low interest rates, notjust in the uk but more generally lots of governments have been able to find the extra expenditure so people can have some income while not being able to work or had to work part time or to keep those who we needed particularly to continue to work and pay more in terms of services and expanding them, like the health services. It is also meant during the period of lockdown, cutting supplied to the economy, cutting supplied to the economy, cutting demand for goods and services. What has been happening during that time is that government has not been collecting too much revenue so has not been collecting too much revenue so it has had to go out and borrow significant amounts of money. The good things about places like the uk, the us, japan, the eu which is doing it very aggressively as well, they have Central Banks behind a prepared to put extra liquidity into the system itself and buying up the Government Debt which is being issued so that, if anyone has any concerns about assisting the government who needs bonds selling attempts, then they have no real worry because there is a central bank behind it which is going to come and bind those bonds if you do not want to hold them for any period of time and that has been very good for ensuring we can continue to borrow and that the rate of borrowing is still very low and we are not paying an awful lot for what were doing at present. Long may that last, of course. Arguably, we are in much better shape than in 2008. With that in mind, a labour right saying the furlough scheme ending is too soon and that it should continue for longer . We are not particularly in better shape. Government debt has risen significantly. Three times as large now as it was, even before the crisis, even before the financial crisis, even before the financial crisis started so we really have a huge mountains of debt. The question is how much more can you add. You can add to it if you want and the government can continue to borrow and assist all those people who are going to become unemployed because youre not going to suddenly find extra jobs. You may need particular sectors. The hospitality and entertainment sector has been significantly affected and that is a significantly affected and that is a significant problem. Many people will not be kept on after the fellow scheme. Furloughed. What happens if that finishes, i think there is a good argument for looking at particular sectors which are opening very slowly and seeing what extra support are needed because what we are hearing is in many sectors, such as the Retail Sector for example, are hearing is in many sectors, such as the Retail Sectorfor example, a lot of firms probably will go under in the future unless they get continued support both financially and also with their own grades. We await the details of the announcement on tuesday. Since the early days of the lockdown, more than 14,000 rough sleepers across the uk have been given temporary shelter, many of them in hotel rooms. But as hotels in england prepare to reopen next weekend and those in other parts of the uk await permission to do the same, that means more upheaval for homeless people. Hywel griffith has been to meet some of them. Were full capacity at the moment so we have people. Normally bustling with backpackers, this youth hostel has a new purpose. Since april it has a new purpose. Since april it has been housing many of the city s homeless, protein during the pandemic. It is runjust homeless, protein during the pandemic. It is run just like a hotel. People come in and drop their keys. The rooms that their own beds and they have a shower, basin, tv. Homeless since the age of 12, sarah has spent the last month here and it has spent the last month here and it has given her the stability to stay off heroine and start to think about life long term. Off heroine and start to think about life longterm. I am used to street life, having people around. Before i never wanted a place and now i cannot wait to have a flat. Shocking things i have seen. But while the government says it is determined people like sarah will not go back to the street and will be able to go into housing, giving councils more money for long term accommodation. By money for long term accommodation. By putting the roof over someones headis by putting the roof over someones head is just by putting the roof over someones head isjust one part by putting the roof over someones head is just one part of the challenge. Many people who normally sleep rough do not have a regular income and, during lockdown, money has been even harder to come by. Graham has been staying at the youth hostel as well and walks across the city to beg. He admits he is still struggling with addiction. city to beg. He admits he is still struggling with addiction. I have to earn my money because otherwise i will be sick. Come here to feed me and my girlfriend in our habits and in our stomach. Back at the hostel, i meet a man who lives coming here has saved his life. He also wants a home and his greatest fear would be returning to the streets. Now i am 55. I cannot sleep in the streets with thisjungle. 55. I cannot sleep in the streets with this jungle. It has saved all of us. The pandemic has turned many lives upside down but it has also created a real opportunity to help some of our most vulnerable. Hywel griffith, bbc news. That will be interesting to see long term if it does have an impact on the number of people. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello. This is breakfast with chris mason and nina warhurst. Good morning. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news the Prime Minister has pledged to speed up the delivery of major building and transport projects following warnings from labour that the governments response to the Coronavirus Crisis will create unemployment levels not seen since the 1980s. A new taskforce, led by the chancellor, will aim to fast track the building of hospitals, schools and roads across the uk. In an interview with the mail on sunday, borisjohnson said the uk will not return to the austerity of ten years ago. A private vigil has been held in reading for the families of three men who were stabbed to death in a park in the town last saturday. Khairi saadallah, who is 25, was charged with their murders yesterday, as well as the attempted murder of three others. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court tomorrrow. Lets check in with one of our regular gps now. Doctor nighat arif joins us from buckinghamshire. Are good morning. Nice to see you. I hope you are well. Lets talk about this whole business of air bridges, travel corridors, use whatever jargon you like, people escaping for some sunshine abroad this summer. It isa some sunshine abroad this summer. It is a idea . I cant blame people for wanting to escape because weather has been up and down, but we have had some absolutely glorious days as well. People have also been in lockdown, that has been anxiety and they are desperate to get away, so i can understand that. But i am still concerned that we are in the middle ofa concerned that we are in the middle of a pandemic, we are still getting new cases of coronavirus. It does incubate for 14 days, and you can have absolutely no symptoms and still pass the virus on to people vulnerable in the community. It is time to get the balance right. Personally. I would like if the numbers came down so we are below the r level, but people will do what they want to do. If the government says you can travel, as a gp, they will not listen to me they want to travel we all listen to our dock surely. I was talking to a doctor from the World Health Organisation andi from the World Health Organisation and i asked her, would you get on a plane . And she said she had opted for a state occasion. I wonder what your plans are . Stay cation. for a state occasion. I wonder what your plans are . Staycation. I am trying to support my colleagues who have not taken any leave or study leave a holiday for three months, so we are trying to allow those that have been working throughout this period, because in the midst of it it was stressful, in order to save guard, burnout, so what we are trying to do is stay around so that we can support each other, stay cation all the way for me. We do have some great spots around where i live so i am blessed. Excellent. Lets talk about shielding if we made, while for those of us lucky enough to increasingly had out and about more as the lockdown has eased in different parts of the uk, there are lots of people still who have not left their homes for weeks and weeks and weeks. We are getting advice from the government about what is planned for those shielding. What is your experience with your patients amongst those who have had to hold up amongst those who have had to hold up at home . It was brilliant that the government was able to give us guidance on shielding and how we can ease out of lockdown for them, because they did feel for a long time, they felt like they were the forgotten group because they have beenin forgotten group because they have been in lockdown even before lockdown happened, before the 23rd of march. A lot of my patients having chemotherapy, transplants, deemed to be the most vulnerable who had gone into shielding, so the whole point of was in order to keep valid vulnerable safe so that we could have resources within the nhs and we could save lives, that was the whole point of lot down. We know the whole point of lot down. We know the numbers are getting less as we ease out. At the height, it was one in 500 chance of getting coronavirus. Now it has dropped to 1700. Iam coronavirus. Now it has dropped to 1700. I am sure your viewers will correct me on that. We can slowly bring the groups out because im seeing a lot of loneliness, panic attacks. I have two ways my patients are going. Some in the Shelter Group are going. Some in the Shelter Group are happy they got guidance and are able to come out slowly but some of my patients are absolutely petrified andi my patients are absolutely petrified and i dont use that word lightly. They are scared because all that they havent been outside the house and they havent come into contact with coronavirus so they are really worried that if i go outside and get infected, what will happen . What i am saying to my patients is not one size for gold. Do what is co mforta ble size for gold. Do what is comfortable for you, step outside the front door may become a little bit, you can manage is all i am asking. Fascinating how the psychology, the character of an individual patient collides with their own medical history, but then their own medical history, but then the wider message is that we are hearing from the government. Practical conversations do you end up practical conversations do you end up having with individual patients . Somehow shielding might feel the pressure to return to work, financially of course, but also to keep hold of a job versus that dilemma that they may fear it is not safe. When it comes to shielded group coming out of work, technically if you look at the guidance, on the first of august they dont need to be shielding and employers can ask them to come back to work. From my experience, employers are really understanding because they want the workforce to stay with them, it is an integral pa rt stay with them, it is an integral part of the team. On the other hand, some of my patients say, can i have a sick note . I havent looked at any specific guidance from the government, i am sure it will come, but when it comes to me personally, iaman but when it comes to me personally, i am an advocate for my patients, their health is my priority and if it requires me giving them a sick note, i will do because i need to keep them safe. We are still in the midst of a pandemic. We had thousands of deaths. Families have been torn apart by this. I dont wa nt been torn apart by this. I dont want another one of my patients to become affected when i know it is something i could have prevented. How are things at the surgery now in terms of adjusting to the reality of doing a lot over the phone or over the video kind of consultations, are you seeing now the video kind of consultations, are you seeing now more the video kind of consultations, are you seeing now more people coming in with non covid 19 related ailments . Definitely. I am seeing a lot more. Idida definitely. I am seeing a lot more. I did a saturday clinic yesterday and it was so busy, we had no spots available. We are doing face to face consultations, home visit consultations, home visit consultations as well and we have enough ppe in order to keep ourselves and our patients protected. But the demand building because people have limbs off so thatis because people have limbs off so that is my request to anybody watching. People have put things off. We are all about preventative medicine. We still need to do checks for asthma is an diabetes. Chronic ca re for asthma is an diabetes. Chronic care is still happening. 0n the other hand, i personally dont like telephone consultations and video consultations. I miss seeing my patients i miss even. Wearing a mask is not the same. I am quite a smiley person, i am very chatty, so ifind it smiley person, i am very chatty, so i find it really hard to have all the gear on and in order to have the personal conversation, especially i am still breaking bad news and having to give patients sometimes in life changing use and that is difficult when there is a barrier there. Of course, gamma, absolutely. We really appreciate you coming on. We really appreciate you coming on. We appreciate your expertise and wisdom. That is our daily gp appointment. The good old zoom wave at the end. That will be one of the social changes, perhaps not the most profound with a pandemic. You really put your microphone on to say goodbye at the end . Do your little wave. I waited to john do your little wave. I waited tojohn watson. Good morning to you. Some drama last night, wasnt there . Some thumbs up yes, it has been exciting with the return of football at the moment. Liverpool wrapping up the premier league title, and we have also seen the fa cup return as well. Manchester united the first tea m well. Manchester united the first team into the finals, having beaten norwich. Manchester united are the first team into the fa cup semifinals, beating norwich 2 1 in extra time. 0dion ighalo handed united a second half lead before Todd Cantwell equalised. Norwich went into extra time a man down. Tim klose was sent off in the 89th minute. It was heading for penalties, but Harry Maguire scored the winner to take 0le gunner solksjaers side to the last four. Ijoined this i joined this club ijoined this club to win trophies, when a semifinal in the fa cup is a great competition and we look forward to it. When a semifinal does come and we get drawn against. And keep your eyes peeled on the draw later, alan shearer conducting it at half time during the newcastle and Manchester City match, which is live on bbc1 later, one of three remaining fa cup ties being played today. In the premier league yesterday, aston villa manager dean smith really wasnt happy at all, notjust with the result, his side beaten 1 0 by wolves, leaving them in the relegation zone. But the way footballs changed, playing without fans and with such a fast turnaround of matches, 4 in 11 days for villa. The fixture list for me is crazy. We had a game in hand, but for us to play 48 hours, newcastle, 48 hours and play wills, it is hard to play without fans, no atmosphere, even harder when the players are fatigued and it should have been organised a bit better in my opinion wolves. Leeds took a big step towards a long awaited return to the premier league with a comfortable win at home to fulham. Leeds have been out of the top flight for 16 years, but a 3 0 win takes them back to the top of the championship, and clear of the sides chasing the automatic promotion spots. With seven games left to play, its looking more and more likely that leeds will be back in the premier league next season. Jack harrison with the goal. Celebrating alongside the cardboard cutouts. Andy murray says hes pleased with his progress despite being knocked out of the battle of the brits exhibition tournament. Its been murrays first competitive tennis in seven months as he recovers from injury, but was moving pretty well, playing at the top of your screen here. He lost to dan evans in what was a very entertaining semifinal at the National Tennis centre in roehampton. And murray says that with the us open on the horizon, this week has been a good gauge of his recovery. He builds towards the grand slam to come. Worth pointing out thatjamie murray, his brother, one the doubles. He did organise a tournament so it is only right he picks up some silverware. They let him win because he organised it . It is like a friend at school who has the ball and organising a kick about. They make the rules and decide whether they win or lose, what position they play. Give them the trophy at the beginning. Cheers, john. Heres nick with a look at this mornings weather. Hello. A big contrast across the uk as we go to the second half of the weekend. Some of us are having a gorgeous start to the day, you may catch a passing shower, but that is just about it. A large part today, but for others it is a very different story. Very went into north west england for example as the day begins for more heavy rain to come. Windy as well. Looking at the rainfall over the past few hours, you can see overnight into this morning most of the rain is falling, occasionally in Northern Ireland, north wales, north west england really went to the pennines la ke england really went to the pennines Lake District west of northern scotland. These same areas will see the lion s share to of today rain. Closer to this area of pressure, it is close to us today and around that the wind if anything is stronger compared with yesterday as well. Regardless of whether we had the rain orthe regardless of whether we had the rain or the sunshine. The odd shower running very quickly across southern areas but some of us will stay dry, continue feeding the rain in. In terms of the wind gusts, widely 30 to 40 miles an hour through the swathe of Northern Ireland, north wales, Northern England, salt southern scotland, some spots where the winds get closer to 15 miles an hour today. Around the uk this afternoon at four oclock, we have sunshine occasionally in southern england, south wales, redlands, east anglia, lifting the temperatures into the low 20s. 14 in belfast, glasgow, 15 in newcastle. The rain and winds down tomorrow, over 100 millimetres in parts of Northern Ireland, elsewhere in north west england, scotland, maybe 40 to 15 millimetres. A risk of flooding and some disruption as a result because notice into tonight the rain is still moving into many of the same areas. He will occasionally reach into eastern scotland and north east england but not as wet as it will be further west and clear spells for the south and south east of the uk and overnight temperatures of ten to 13 degrees. Tomorrow we will see see a bit of rain. It does start to wind down gradually during the day. A bit more patchy in nature. Accepting more patchy in nature. Accepting more cloud across the southern half of england and wales compared with today. A bit of dry weather a passing shower. As for the temperatures, most of us will be in the teens, it wasnt long ago we we re the teens, it wasnt long ago we were in the upper 20s and low 30s, so were in the upper 20s and low 30s, so it is the other part of the british summer weather which will look like it will stick around for much of the week ahead. Low pressure for the weekend. We still have a wea ker system for the weekend. We still have a weaker system and a few whether fronts approaching southern parts, cloud and rain. It will rain at times in the week ahead, not all the time. A few sunny spells are looking rather cloudy. Not as windy as the week goes on as it will be to start the week. As friday has low pressure comes back in, the wind may well pick back up again. Temperatures, maybe a bit below normal for the time of year. Some changeable british summer weather to come as we go from june of course intojuly. Stay with us, headlines coming up. I was hoping for some consistency. What country are we in its time now for a round up of the latest coronavirus news from around the world, with anita mcveigh. Hello and welcome to the latest in our special programmes on the coronavirus pandemic, im annita mcveigh. 0n todays programme, we have exclusive access inside a mumbai hospitals icu as the city struggles with coronavirus cases. Plus, how new restrictions on distance rules and the use of face masks is making the world almost impossible to navigate for many deaf and blind people in the uk. And a reminder that you can keep up to date with the latest information about the pandemic on our website. But first, india has more than 400,000 cases of coronavirus, the fourth highest number in the world, and its financial capital, mumbai, is one of the worst affected cities, with nearly 70,000 covid infections so far. Temporary beds have been made available, but the citys hospitals are still overstretched. The bbcs Mayuresh Konnur and cameraman sharad badhe have been given exclusive access to the intensive care unit at the state run King Edward Memorial Hospital in central mumbai. The sounds of battle between life and death. Ventilators beep. The city of mumbai has nearly 70,000 coronavirus cases. Some are being treated here at the King Edward Memorial Hospital. Known as kem, it is one of the citys largest state run hospitals. We have been granted exclusive access to the intensive care unit. Dr smrati vajpayee tiwara shows us around. She has worked here for ten years, but the last three months have been the most difficult. We have to think and act on critical patients critically. So you can imagine it is a very big challenge. Mentally, physically, it is very tiring and it takes a lot of toll on the body. Finally, we were ready. This is the covid 19 icu centre in mumbais heart, the kem hospital. What we could gather from the doctors here, 15 20 of those infected with coronavirus need an emergency bed here. And out of them, 3 eventually fall to covid 19 and around 3 is the mortality rate. These are the 15 with serious symptoms. The ward is calm and quiet. With relatives in quarantine, patients in the unit are alone. The doctors here are their only link to the outside world. Translation the family of the patients cannot be here. They dont even know, what is the condition of their Family Member inside the icu . This has increased mental stress for both the patient and us. Because we meet the patients every day. We become their only immediate contact. But it is notjust the patients who have the virus. Dr washpahi and herfamily of nine, including her one year old twins, have all had it too. She got infected in april. Translation i came to know during our screening that i was positive, and then, while the Contact Tracing was done, we found that my entire family had got infected. By gods grace, we all had mild symptoms and recovered from covid 19. Many doctors have struggled to cope. In another part of the same hospital, feeling overwhelmed and understaffed, resident doctors have been filming the wards and posting videos on social media. Extra staff have been brought help the doctors since the video was made public. But their boss says scenes like these are common in state run hospitals like this. Translation when you say our hospital is crowded and one bed is shared by two patients, then you will find this sad situation in private hospitals as well. We have admitted all patients who spend nights in private hospitals waiting but couldnt get a bed. Kem is one such hospital that says, come to us, and never turns away anyone. The monsoon season isjust beginning in mumbai, and that means for Health Workers are now faced with two challenges. Treating seasonal Infectious Diseases such as malaria and dengue, and fighting the virus. As the lockdown eases in the uk, social distancing rules designed to keep people safe are having a huge impact on all our lives. But for many deaf and blind people, the new distance rules and wearing a face mask has made the world impossible to navigate. As our Disability Affairs correspondent nikki fox reports, many campaigners say the uk government has forgotten deaf people and people with other disabilities. I think i would describe it as feeling pretty helpless. Im cut off, disconnected. If i feel somebody bump into me, on the times when i leave the house, i get really stressed, i get really scared, too. For both these women, life as we ease out of lockdown has become much harder. Measures designed to keep us safe are having a negative impact on the lives of people with hearing and sight loss. For ayesha, its a routine appointment shes dreading. Im quite nervous. Nurses, doctors, you know, theyll all be Wearing Masks, and i will not be able to understand what theyre saying. Along with sign language, ayesha relies on lip reading and facial expressions to fully understand whats going on. But now, the interpreter will also be wearing a mask. I dont know what is happening, what theyre saying. It takes quite a lot of your power away, and your self esteem, i think. Knowing that you cant communicate with anybody. Part of the nature of my eye condition is that i dont have any depth perception and its also difficult for me because i dont have any peripheral vision. So im really relying on other people being good at following the rules, because i cant. With a husband who is shielding, its down to holly to do the basics like shopping. But Safety Measures designed to keep us safe have made her world almost impossible to navigate. Theres nothing about being visually impaired that makes me more vulnerable medically, to covid. But the situation has made me more vulnerable. Charities supporting people with sensory loss have seen a dramatic increase in calls to their help lines as we ease out of lockdown. Theyre struggling with the face masks, with needing public transport, and getting out and about. They kind of feel forgotten about. Theyre not understood by the public and the government. We feel these people have been really disadvantaged with the easing of the lockdown. Do you think disability has been thought of . We are constantly learning and receiving advice. In Face Coverings, visors are being across transport networks. Were investigating tactile signage as well. Importantly, discrimination law has not changed in the pandemic. You know, people have to be treated appropriately and equally. Following pressure, the department of health and social care has said it is looking into the possibility of securing transparent Face Coverings which would help ayesha. But three months into the pandemic, and with many reasonable adjustments yet to be made, many deaf and blind people fear they will be the last to get out of lockdown. To america now and, as the Global Pandemic spreads, businesses around the world were forced to shut up shop. Some of the Creative Industries which are depended on human contact and collaboration have been particularly badly hit, but one is notjust surviving, its thriving. While the film sets of hollywood remain closed, in the world of animated film business is booming. Production houses are not laying off staff, they are actively recruiting. Many believe the pandemic has had a positive effect that will change the way they work forever. While businesses around the world have been forced to take an unwelcomed rest, in the world of animation, production has been gathering pace. We were always set up to be able to be digital. What the pandemic has done is it has accelerated the transformation into being able to really have a virtual network. There are of course challenges, like launching a feature film when cinemas are closed. It is very disconcerting. Even more so perhaps for this one. Jungle beat tells the story of a young alien who learns about the power of a hug, potentially a difficult sell while were social distancing. We kind of panicked a bit when we realised the message of our film was, you know, loving and hugging, and we were like, oh, my goodness, in a time when the world has been told to stay away from each other, stay home and dont go near anybody else. We just thought, lets just spin it and promote hope, we will hug again, you know. We are together, together. The idea of promoting hope brought other Creative Minds together and even the films title track was made during the peak of the pandemic. It was a bit daunting, actually. We did vocals, the final vocals the night before. Untilfour in the morning. Its unheard of. We were just singing like cause there are lots of harmonies. We were the choir ourselves at the last chorus, youll hear there is a bit of a choir thing happening and it is actually us doing the whole choir. While Remote Working has created Global Opportunities for a more diverse table pool, virtual writers rooms do have their limitations. You can have this very, really very intimate conversation but, as soon as you are trying to hear laughter, it can be hard to hear the laughter and talk over it which you would normally be doing in a stand up environment. You want to scream at your mother and then laugh at her tears. But i dont want to scream at my mom. But in terms of demand for animation there could be a bit ofa. Stampede staaampede and a reminder perhaps that as planted earth hopes to hug again, it takes darkness to see the stars. Sophie long reporting. Thats it for now. You can follow me on twitter or head to the bbc news website for the latest information. Take care and thanks for watching. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with chris mason and nina warhurst. 0ur headlines today build our way back to health the Prime Ministers plan to rescue the economy by fast tracking new schools, hospitals and transport projects. As reading remembers the three men stabbed to death in a park a week ago, a 25 year old man is charged with murder. No crowds, but theres still late drama in the fa cup, as Manchester United beat norwich to become the first team to reach the semi finals. The political machinations in america, it turns out there is a lot going on. Shes the star of films including bridesmaids and peter rabbit. Now rose byrne is turning her attention to the rough and tumble of us politics. Well hear from her in around 20 minutes. Good morning, if you thought yesterday was blustery, it is even windier out there today, whilst for some of those we mayjust see a passing shower, for others it is going to be a very wet day. I will tell you where with the sunday forecast coming up. Its sunday the 28th ofjune. Just gone eight oclock. Our top story the Prime Minister has pledged to speed up the delivery of major building and transport projects and avoid a return to the policies of austerity. Borisjohnson will use a major speech on tuesday to set out his attempt to stimulate the uk economy, following warnings from labour that the governments response to the Coronavirus Crisis is putting jobs at risk. Hell announce that a new group called the infrastructure delivery taskforce will be set up, promising a dramatic acceleration. Delivering new schools, hospitals and transport schemes. The Prime Minister has been discussing his plans in an interview with todays mail on sunday. 0ur Political Correspondent nick eardley can tell us more. Plenty ofjohn sony and language in this interview that catches the eye, but what about the detail . this interview that catches the eye, but what about the detail . I think it is going to be an busy week in politics because Boris Johnson is going to use this big speech on tuesday to try to tell us all how he plans to get the economy back on track, as we slowly emerge from the lockdown and the Coronavirus Crisis more generally. The big idea that he is talking about this morning is getting Infrastructure Projects moving as quickly as possible. Believe it or not, it is only six months since the election back in december when he was talking about levelling up, and i think we are going to hear a lot more of that from him this week, saying we need to get schools, hospitals and big road and rail projects built and he wants to make it happen quickly. The task force you were talking about is going to be none too subtly named, project speed, all about getting this moving as quickly as possible and using the example of the nhs nightingale hospitals, getting things from zero to 100 really quickly. As you say, huge challenges for the economy that we have spoken about in the last few weeks, labour party being really worried if there isnt more support for employers and employees then unemployment could go right up, so there will be a lot of Big Questions for boys to answer on tuesday. And you have got eight press ups and nappies update for us . Yes, a bit of a press update, look at this from borisjohnson in a press update, look at this from Boris Johnson in his a press update, look at this from borisjohnson in his office on downing street, pictured in the mail on sunday this morning to try to prove to everybody that he has, as he puts it, as fit as a bulldog, after some questions over his health because of course he had coronavirus himself and we have seen him in the last couple of weeks sometimes looking a bit out of breath or tired, but he is saying he is absolutely fine and has been up feeding his newborn baby in the middle of the night as well, so insisting to everybody that everything is grand. I cant remember seeing a Prime Minister doing press ups before. You have been about a bit longer than me, i can remember Prime Ministers running, but at something on this level, but a sign of the times . Yes, there was definitely no pictures of theresa may doing that. Talking of infrastructure, how is management . week to go. It is always tough at this time of the morning. Nearly there, im sure there will be queues for a haircut next weekend. You know, you fellows are having a small insight into what maintenance is like with haircuts for women most at the time. Not vast amounts of sympathy there a leicester mp has called for a local lockdown in the city after more than 600 coronavirus cases were recorded in the first half ofjune. Labours Claudia Webbe said the area has what she called a perfect storm of poverty, Ethnic Diversity and existing covid 19 cases. The city mayor says a decision on any action will be taken when the latest data is analysed. The department of health says it is supporting the local authority and has deployed four mobile testing sites. Well be speaking to the mayor of leicester, peter soulsby, in around half an hour. A private vigil has been held in reading for the families of three men who were stabbed to death in a park in the town last saturday. Which Khairi Saadallah, who is 25, was charged with their murders yesterday as well as the attempted murder of three others. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on monday. Police have named the man who was shot dead by armed officers during a knife attack in glasgow on friday. He was Badreddin Abadlla Adam a 28 year old Asylum Seeker from sudan. Six people who were stabbed including a Police Officer are being treated in hospital. Theres been plenty of gardening going on during the lockdown and now the duchess of cambridge has mucked in. She helped with some planting during a visit to a childrens hospice in norfolk as leigh milner reports. The duchess of cambridge wasnt afraid to get her hands or her dress dirty when she helped families create a special garden at this childrens hospice in norwich. Run by east anglian childrens hospices, the nook was opened last year by catherine to support families caring for children with life threatening illnesses families like lisa and liam page and their three month old son, connor. Born with severe brain damage, he came to the hospice for end of life care. Youve got to dig them in now with the help of some fellow gardeners, the duchess hand picked the plants during a trip to fakenham Garden Centre near her norfolk home of anmer hall. She chose strong smelling plants like lavender and herbs for the sensory garden, and planted a sunflower in memory of a little boy whose brother raised more than £18,000 for the hospice that cared for him shortly before he died. As the emblem of hospice care, families were given Sunflower Seeds to plant, just like her own children whove been racing to see whose in the lead. Leigh milner, bbc news. Beautiful, have you been gardening . No. When you mentioned a moment ago that everyone has been gardening. Except chris mason. We have handed our little patch of grass back to nature, that is my positive spin on it. As weve been hearing, theres been a holiday booking bonanza over the last 24 hours after the government announced plans to drop quarantine rules for some destinations. Lets have a quick reminder of the details. A series of so called travel corridors are planned from july 6th thats a week tomorrow meaning you wont have to self isolate when you return to the uk. Its almost certain that tourist hotspots like france, spain, italy, greece and turkey will be included. But its likely that portugal will be left off the list, along with sweden, because of concerns over their infection rates. Although the government says the plan applies to all four uk nations, ministers in scotland and wales have warned they havent yet decided whether to introduce the measures. One of the companies itching to get people back on holiday is hays travel youll remember they took over thomas cook when that firm collapsed last year. We can speak to owners john and irene hays now. Theyre in sunderland. A very good morning to you. Quite exciting, there is news at claim it. Have you seen a flurry of bookings orare have you seen a flurry of bookings or are people waiting until we know for sure where we can go . Oh, yes absolutely 0bviously for sure where we can go . Oh, yes absolutely obviously the staff return to work a couple of weeks ago and every single day there has been increasing numbers of people inquiring, hopeful that they would be given this news and when the news broke yesterday morning, the phones have just not stopped ringing. It has just been remarkable. Have just not stopped ringing. It hasjust been remarkable. We know there is a lot of latent demand there is a lot of latent demand there and there are some fantastic prices as well. So you think people have fully understood . Prices as well. So you think people have fully understood . It is quite a complex picture, where you can and cant go and what your holiday is going to look like as you pass through the airport and your holiday abroad. That is not putting people off . Not at all, people waiting sometimesjust to check off . Not at all, people waiting sometimes just to check which countries are going to be open when the announcement was made on tuesday, but over the role lots of excitement and also a lot of people who didnt get their holiday, they have got a refund and ive been back in yesterday and booked again, so things are great. So you two are grinning earto earand things are great. So you two are grinning ear to ear and bucking the trend at the moment. Lots of businesses are going through a really tricky period and you are looking to recruit . Yes, we are. 0bviously, when we took over the thomas cook in october last year, we had a huge recruitment exercise and that continued into january and february and the business was performing very strongly. We went into lockdown and throws recruitment, but now there is this listening, we are back on the recruitment drive, notjust for experienced travel consultants, but a number of other roles as well, project people and the great news for young people is that we are reinstating our Apprenticeship Programme for 700 young people this year and we hope that we will get that back and running in autumn. So youre optimistic about the rest of the year and looking for bookings for next year. Have you noticed a difference in who is bucking . We know that people who are aged 60 or 7o know that people who are aged 60 or 70 or 80 know that people who are aged 60 or 70 or80 are know that people who are aged 60 or 70 or 80 are feeling more insecure about going abroad at the moment because of the nature of the virus. Have you noticed that . Yes, i think people are being really sensible and older people are sometimes saying they might delay going and postpone until winter or make a booking for next year. We have got a piece of mind guarantee, where people can cancel and get all their money back free of charge up to six weeks before they gojust free of charge up to six weeks before they go just to reassure them. So they are being a bit more cautious, but a lot are still booking, but demand is currently huge, so it is great. Susan is one of the viewers who has been in touch this morning to ask about insurance. People dont necessarily know where they stand, especially because the foreign and commonwealth of this advice is still not to travel. As the changes, what sort of insurance should people be looking to take out . Definitely, they should take out . Definitely, they should take out insurance. To protect themselves, for obvious reasons. Some are not covering covid 19, although we are hopeful that there might be some covid 19 covered very soon. Might be some covid 19 covered very soon. It is not guaranteed yet, but that would be brilliant. Ok john and irene from hays travel, thank you very much, we would better let you get back to those phones good luck. Lets get a view from british ex pats living in two of the uks most popular tourist destinatons. Rob springall runs holiday homes in spains costa del sol, and natasha donn is a journalist in the algarve in portugal. Natasha, we had positive news there and if smiles from hays travel, but real fears in and if smiles from hays travel, but realfears in portugal in particular about how the uk looks likely to classify where you are west it is so confused, there are reports one minute that we are going to be included, reports the next that we are not and the problem with all the Decision Making is that they have slightly got it wrong and as much as we got cases arising around the bay to lisbon. That doesnt tend to be the spot that most of the brits come to in the summer. In the summer, we tend to get brits coming to the algarve, where any whole four months we have had 15 deaths, of which i dont think anyone has been over. I know it is not good to say, but no one has been young, so it is a very odd way of classifying a country as a whole, when we have got areas which are completely basically safe. The algarve has actually marketed itself to be safe. I mean, the hotels are all sorted, the beaches and cadres, restaurants are all sorted and everyone has got such strict instructions, so to suddenly hear that we might not be saved things like. Well, it couldnt be worse. How damaging will it be for the tourist economy in the algarve . What proportion of our rivals in every a ny what proportion of our rivals in every any typical summer are brits . Well, some newspapers back of arrivals. Some. We probably have about 30 brits, 30 portuguese and then the rest is made up of other nationalities, so it would be very significant and very damning, basically for us. It has already been a terrible year and to think that now we have got this market that now we have got this market that isnt going to be potentially isnt going to be allowed, again, we dont know for sure and then there are reports from people like ryanair saying that nobody is taking any notice of these travel corridors and the British Authority hasnt got much wherewithal to check. So a slightly confused picture for portugal at the moment. Much clearer. In, we do understand they will be given full access to spain in terms of the travel corridors. But on the costa del sol, people will think about the sun and sea and sangr|a , will think about the sun and sea and sangria, but i like it going to be able to do that . Yes, certainly, it does seem that the news that is going to come out is going to be positive, insofar as spain being able to welcome uk tourists back. We have actually been in our new normal now for about a month, so all the restaurants, bars, shops have already had a dress rehearsal as far as getting the new protocol under control, so yes, we should be able to welcome, open our doors and everyone should be able to have a good time. My eye has been drawn to the power is all behind you there on the power is all behind you there on the beach in front of the water. Not a bloke with a dog . There is the fellow with the dog as well, a busy time for dog walking at this time. I was just time for dog walking at this time. I wasjust going to time for dog walking at this time. I was just going to say, in terms of out and about life on the streets of costa del sol, will people have to wear masks . Will you be able to share a jug of sangria . Will you be able to go out to restaurants and not cue . What will day to day life be like . At the moment, the new protocols are in, bars, shops and restaurants are open and i am actually currently sat in a re sta u ra nt actually currently sat in a restaurant at the moment and you will see when you go out for your Dining Experience on holiday all the waiters have masks on, there is hand sanitiser readily available, so it is slightly different as to what it would be, in any usual summer, but it isjust how it is going to be for the rest of this year, so everything is up and running and we are sure we can make sure that everyone will have a good time. And it is still a holiday, isnt it . Absolutely. Natasha, back to you. If there is someone natasha, back to you. If there is someone good natasha, back to you. If there is someone good news natasha, back to you. If there is someone good news eventually from the British Government as far as portugal is concerned, even if not any short term, talk us through the practical reality of people coming on holiday to portugal. What it is like in terms of the mitigations and the measures and the Face Covering that all that. It is actually fantastic. We all wear masks and we have been Wearing Masks i think for probably about six weeks now, but only to go into places, for instance if you going to be a shop you put your mask on. The minute you go out of the shop you put your mask off, so of the shop you put your mask off, so people have their mask hanging from their cars, their car mirrors and they just whip from their cars, their car mirrors and theyjust whip them on when they have to do. The restaurants are all very well organised, you go in wearing a mask and obviously you ta ke wearing a mask and obviously you take it off when you sit down. The beaches are fantastic, you dont have to go on wearing a mask, as it would be ridiculous as there are no cases of this virus transmitting on the open air. The beaches are all well sorted, they have all got their ppe and we have had one fantastic speu ppe and we have had one fantastic spell of about five days where we had a couple of Bank Holidays together and a weekend and we were inundated with people at that point, not from spain, basically from portugal, from north portugal. Business was booming and everybody had a great time. No infections. The algarve has had, as i said before, 15 deaths and we have had 3 of infections, so this is a very safe place. Ok, thank you for talking to s. Place. Ok, thank you for talking to s, natasha and rob. I like the idea of dangling your Face Covering from one of the mirrors in your car, a bit ofan one of the mirrors in your car, a bit of an accessory. The government have also conceded that even if portugal isnt included there is nothing to stop somebody flying to madrid and cost crossing the border ina car, madrid and cost crossing the border in a car, so it is really tricky to enforce. And people might have their own homes there or time share or some long standing arrangement of going to see family, trying to find a safe way of getting out there, taking account of the advice, but wanting to live like that again absolutely, not straightforward. Lets check in with the key for the weather. We were hoping for a fora similar for a similar picture, but not so much . No, it is a bit all over the place at the moment. I will start with some sunshine, as it is a lovely start to the day. If this was video, the clouds would mean moving through very quickly because it is very windy at that and most people dont have sunshine this morning all see it today because for some of us there is heavy rain around, really quite so keen. I want to show the picture over the last few hours, you can see most of that rain has been falling on Northern Ireland and into snowdonia, the Lake District and southern and western parts of scotland. Many of the same areas will get to see more rain as we go through the day and we are close to an area of low pressure, which is bringing that rain and showers further away from the centre of that cross urban areas and nearly all parts of the uk we have got some fairly strong winds, and usually windy for the time of year. We saw on the rainfall picture where the rain is coming in, on the forecast now it is in many of the same areas with rain totals mounting and we could see some flooding in some spots and disruption as a result. When gus widely at 30 40 mph, in Northern Ireland, northern wales, and south scotland, where we could see gusts of up to 50 mph. If you are out and about, there will be some sunny are out and about, there will be some sunny spells across much of southern england, south wales and east anglia, some showers moving through quite quickly, 20 degrees in the warmest spot, but nowhere near previous temperatures, snowdonia, north west england and Northern Areas of scotland where it is most persistent, but on hills we could end up with 40 having 50 millimetres quite widely, but any Lake District or the pennines we could end up with over 100 millimetres of rain as rain continues over night tonight into tomorrow as well. Tonight, where it has been wet today it is still windy as well, temperatures around 13 degrees as we start the day tomorrow. Still somewhere the contrast and tomorrow, but where it has been so wet, where you can see some rain coming and it will start to ease down during the day, but it would still be very blustery. 0ne noticeable change will be more cloud across the southern half of the england and south wales prepared we today, but still some sunny spells and if you showers around. Temperatures in the mid teens for many others, not even seeing a 20 on the map behind me yet. It is a sign of things to come as we go through the week, although this weekends area of low pressure is outing to scandinavia by tuesday. We are still keeping low pressure as a role, this set of weather front coming in on tuesday, patchy rain across southern parts of the uk this time. A selection of places over the weekend, this weather is changeable, a bit of rain occasionally and those temperatures, great news if you dont like heat and humidity because those temperatures have of course come right back down and that is when they were going to stay this week, may be for the following week things are going to start to warm up again, but that is a long way off. That is your forecast for now. Thank you, plenty of whether about. Yes, another weekend with without some payment is. It is 42 minutes past eight. The lockdown has been hard for all of us but harder still if you have a child that needs round the clock care. And although many hospices have had to cut back on their usual respite care services, staff have been finding new ways to give parents a much needed break. 0ur scotland correspondent lorna gordon has been finding out more. Shielding in their garden and making the most of the good weather. Mum and dad, alexis and jamie, and their three sons, grayson, brodie and ellis. When ellis was five months old he started getting bleeds on the brain because of what turned out to be a genetic abnormality. It lead to strokes. He now needs round the clock care. Day to day is pretty tough, generally. And. To have all of the challenges that lockdown brings with it in addition to obviously our normal, day to day, crazy routine. And the problem with lockdown for us has not necessarily been elliss condition. It has been managing Everything Else alongside of that. In normal times, ellis would receive respite care in a childrens hospice every couple of months. During the pandemic, the hospice has been coming to him. Giving mum and dad a chance to spend some time with their other children, while leaving ellis in safe hands. Todays activity, art. It is so rewarding, kind of thing, when he does give you feedback and he vocalises and is keen to, tolerates what you are doing with him and gives you facial expressions and smiles and for him it is nice to spend that time and do some sensory craft activities. For the past three months, stays at the two centres run by the charity, childrens hospices across scotland, or chas, have been limited to emergencies and end of life care. As lockdown restrictions ease, it is still a long road back to normal routines for many families whose children have life shortening conditions. So our families are scared to kind of move forward too quickly and they are always going to be behind everyone else in going back out into the community and we have had some families saying that they dont want their kids going to school, it is too scary, so i can see that we will be helping to support them to keep their kids at home. What would you hope for the future, then . That we just continue to reach more families across scotland. Ah . Families supported by hospices at home are now during this crisis a hospice that is virtual. 10 year old kirsty, who has frequent seizures, taking part in a music session through the hospice online. Her mum says it brought joy to all the family. It was fabulous to watch her do it, via the zoom that it was and it was a half an hour session and she was very vocal and whilst he was playing i think she did four different instruments and it was just lovely to see her come back a little bit, and it was nice to then show her gran and grandpa and the other gran that this is what she is like when she gets Music Therapy because it is hard to get a reaction from her. The opportunity to see their child responding so very much appreciated by ellis parents as well. Obviously we work, you know, playing with them and the likes of fiona and the girls are then interacting with him and responding back, obviously it make a positive effect onjamie and i because we are like, 0k, we are still all right. You know . Support for families facing challenging times, which are even harder now, and for whom every moment is precious. Bbc news, ayrshire. Just beautiful the way they have maintained that level of care, despite all the obstacles in their way. It stops you in your tracks, it really does. Andrew marr is on bbc one after breakfast, dissecting another busy week in politics. What have you got in store, andrew . Well, you will have seen those scenes of disturbances on beaches and city centres and i am joined by the home secretary, priti patel and by the former leader of the labour party, now the energy spokesman, ed miliband. I have got a very Senior Scientist on stage as well talking about second spikes and the danger of that and a president ial candidate in the United States who is now the only black member of champas cabinet talking about black lives matter and coronavirus of President Trumps cabinet. I will also be talking aboutjoanna lumley about waiting for godot, which is what we will all be doing in the last few months. It isjust coming up last few months. It isjust coming up to 8 20am to 8 30am. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with chris mason and nina warhurst. Its 0828, heres a summary of this mornings main news to book or not to book. Thats the question on many peoples minds this weekend when it comes to a foreign holiday. The government announced changes to quarantine measures yesterday. Lets discuss this further, were joined now by the former business secretary, greg clark. I should be able to pronounce your name, greg and i have managed to make a complete mess of it. There is a business of air bridges, what you make of what the government is saying. You have been scrape typical of the quarantine measures up until now, sceptical of the quarantine measures. It seems strange to require people to isolate when they are coming from countries with much less infection than us. But i work in what seems to be a sensible approach. If you have countries that have levels low levels of infection, you would not require them to quarantine for 14 days. What are your reflections of on the government plasma communication strategy question make get is inevitably difficult at this stage of unlocking of lockdown that the message is more nuanced. Equally we have seen those pictures of the beaches being absolutely packed in bournemouth. That is clearly a danger of people, if they do not stick to the rails, there being another spike. What you have just said is right, chris. Stick to the rulers. It is much easier to have broadbrush messages that were appropriate at the beginning of the pandemic. We have all got to stay at home, it was very simple. That was literally the simple message, stay home. We are now phase where we need to ta ke home. We are now phase where we need to take a more forensic approach, certain sectors can come back, you can meet in greater numbers. And thatis can meet in greater numbers. And that is more complex. It needs to be forensic, it needs to be based on the evidence. I think we should be cautious about the reaction to pictures of the scenes at beaches. When you look at them from afar, it looks like a big crowd, but actually if you look closer up in more detail, often people are in family groups, they are outdoors anyway, they are not necessarily literally sitting within touching distance of each other. It is in the open air, and we know that is a relatively safe environment. So we need to be sensible, we need to follow the evidence that is there. But it will, the contrast between how it was before, where the beaches were com pletely before, where the beaches were completely deserted, is going to be made, but it does not mean to say that it made, but it does not mean to say thatitis made, but it does not mean to say that it is all a disaster and eve ryo ne that it is all a disaster and everyone is ignoring the rules and not socially distancing. I think were going to have to be used to be used nuance. The Prime Minister has given an interview in the mail on sunday this morning, including a picture of him doing press ups to prove he is as fit eddie as a butchers dog, as he described it. Looking ahead to the speech he is going to make a jersey, he has said the newspaper puts it as billions for britain. The moment for borrowing, but it does pilot debt that will be having to be paid back at some point . I think it is the right strategy because this is a National Emergency and we need to treat it as something that we have to regard as a one off. At the beginning of the crisis, the man who ru ns beginning of the crisis, the man who runs the office for budget response ability, the watchdog when it comes to borrowing and spending, he looks back at what we did during the Second World War and noted that we we re Second World War and noted that we were in deficits then and what he said was it was right to do it then and it is right to do it now because we need to make sure, especially that people are able to keep their jobs, keep employed. 0ne that people are able to keep their jobs, keep employed. One of the things we know from previous recessions is a people, especially young people, lose theirjobs, become unemployed, then that is a blight for their whole lives. So having a big National Initiative to get people writing, key people in work, and if they cannot work in some of thejobs work, and if they cannot work in some of the jobs they had had before to get people working. I think thatis to get people working. I think that is absolutely right. To keep them injobs that is absolutely right. To keep them in jobs and that is absolutely right. To keep them injobs and keep that is absolutely right. To keep them in jobs and keep them working. For the fellow scheme, when that is going to run it, does it need to be more specific as we go forward in terms of which sectors it might still be able to apply to, vendor furlough versus other areas, for example theatres who are unable to open and make money. Phase where we had a broadbrush policy, the furlough policy and it was absolutely right, able to measure taking and applying right across the across the economy. Now we are in a situation in which certain sectors can come back, as we are seeing with parts of hospitality. But certain others because of the rules will not be able to and you mention theatres. I had be able to and you mention theatres. Ihada be able to and you mention theatres. I had a chat yesterday with a music venue, and independent music venue in my constituency called forum. It isa in my constituency called forum. It is a fantastic venue, award winning, but know that the rules will not allow small physic venues with Live Performances to come back very soon. Small music venues. It is necessary , small music venues. It is necessary, if they cannot, because of the real, to reflect that in the support that is available for those who are employed there so that forensic approach is what i hope will be taken. Thank you, we appreciate your time is money. Greg clark, the former business secretary in the chairof clark, the former business secretary in the chair of the select committee. Now for a look at the sport. It seems like it has been nonstop, since football began. Resumed. Manchester united are the first team into the fa cup semi finals, beating norwich 2 1 in extra time. 0dion ighalo handed united into a second half lead before Todd Cantwell equalised. But norwich went into extra time a man down tim klose sent off late on. And with it heading for penalties, Harry Maguire grabbed the winner to take 0le gunner solksjaers side to the last four. Ijoined this club to win trophies so were in the semifinal of the fa cup, its a great competition and were going to look forward to it and hopefully, when the semifinal does come and if we do get drawn against them, we play a lot better than we have done tonight. Three more games today and we could see plenty of drama with Sheffield United up against arsenal when you consider especially when you consider that these two were involved in possibly these two were involved in possibly the most controversial goal in fa cup history back in 1999. Arsenal went on to score from this throw in, when Sheffield United had expected to receive the ball back after kicking it out so an injured player could receie treatment. Player could receive treatment. The manager at the time, sleepers, incensed and ready to walk off the touchline. Steve bruce. It meant that game had to be replayed, arsenal manager Arsene Wenger saying it wasnt won in the spirit they would have liked. Unfortunately they still lost the rematch. And lets not forget David Seamans super save in the semi finals against Sheffield United back in 2003 which helped them to reach the final. An unbelievable piece of athleticism. Arsenal went on to win it that year, no team has won the fa cup more than arsenal. So Sheffield United will be hoping their luck is in later. What a seva that was. Save. A reminder the semifinal draw is being made alan shearer at half time during newcastles match with Manchester City, live on bbc one later. In the premier league yesterday, aston villa manager dean smith really wasnt happy. Notjust with the result, his side beaten 1 0 by wolves leaving them in the relegation zone. But the way footballs changed playing without fans and with such a fast turnaround of matches four in 11 days for villa. Andy murray says hes pleased with his progress, despite being knocked out of the battle of the brits exhibition tournament. Its been murrays first competitive tennis in seven months as he recovers from injury, but was moving pretty well, playing at the top of your screen. He lost to dan evans in what was a very entertaining semifinal at the National Tennis centre in roehampton. And murray says that with the us open on the horizon, this week has been a good gauge of his recovery. He has been taking it steady, it is fairto he has been taking it steady, it is fair to say. He does not want to rush things with the trouble he has had with his hip so far and the match is his first in seven months, clearly signs of progress and with the us open on horizon, it is looking positive for anti money. We need to see and do attorney tennis court. Quite right, synonymous. Andy murray. There are growing calls for leicester to be put back under the original lockdown rules after more than 600 coronavirus cases were recorded in the first half ofjune. The labour mp for leicester east, Claudia Webbe, said the area has what she called a perfect storm of poverty, Ethnic Diversity and existing covid 19 cases. Lets talk now to the citys mayor, sir peter soulsby. Eminent could a local look can be in lester . I do not think that his immediate prospect how imminent . There was what was described as an outbreak in leicester and what we still have today is no real analysis of the data to be sure what we have not have got in leicester. 0ver of the data to be sure what we have not have got in leicester. Over the last ten days, we have had to argue almost every day for the testing to continue in leicester and for it to be ramped up and i think we have got a commitment now that it will continue, but it heavily has been a battle. And what weve also had to argue for are really has been a battle. We have had to argue for the data that comes from that analysis. Many weeks of asking, three days ago, at last, we got some data at street level and that is what we need to have in order to analyse whether there is or is not an issue in leicester and if that is, when it is. So you have got that data and the analysis is under way, what happens next . House and met people in leicester discover what is going to happen as a result of this . How soon will people in leicester discover. Hopefully earlier this week we will know if we had a problem and if we have, where it is. Leicester is a very large urban area, a total of nearly 600,000 people in the urban area in its entirety and many neighbourhoods, many communities within it. It is really only if we know whether that is an issue and where, within those neighbourhoods and communities, it might be, that we can decide, if anything, what we need to do. You sound sceptical about the citywide lockdown, but could there be a necessity for a more localised one, a street by street around the biggest cluster of cases questioning now that we have the data, we will have some idea, hopefully very soon, as to whether there are issues in particular neighbourhoods and then we will be able to work with those neighbourhoods. And with those communities to look at whether we need to get extra support and a little bit of persuasion to encourage them to be extra careful and perhaps return to some lockdown but we are somewhere from that yet but we are somewhere from that yet but orbital it would have been far better if the level of testing had been higher and the commitment had been higher and the commitment had been greater. What about the no . , lets talk about the now, how are you talking to the Health Secretary and people in government about what is to be done here because people in leicester will be wedded. is to be done here because people in leicester will be wedded. I have spoken to the Health Secretary ten yea rs spoken to the Health Secretary ten years ago and in a number of discussions with the chief medical 0fficer people will be worried. And consistently i have said to them that we need the data. We end you need to know what is happening on the ground in leicester and we need to know what the real situation is on the ground here in our city and only then, together with the government, can we decide what intervention is needed. What you say to those watching our conversation morning who will remember that you acknowledged you broke lockdown restrictions earlier on in this pandemic so people might reasonably ask, why should we listen to our maier . I think they will know that i have apologised for it and have explained. I had somebody very close to me he was very sick and on two separate occasions during the lockdown, and only under manic separate occasions, did i visit, once within the rules was perfectly acceptable, which was the necessary support under two separate occasions. That does not affect the overall message that those in our city need to know what is happening in our city city need to know what is happening in ourcity and city need to know what is happening in our city and when we know what the real situation is on the ground, only then can we know what we need to do to make sure that our city remain safe. Thank you sir peter, mayor of salisbury. I willjust bring you a quote. We are helping our partners in leicester to help stop the transmission of the virus. Since the early days of the lockdown, more than 14,000 rough sleepers across the uk have been given temporary shelter many of them in hotel rooms. But as hotels in england and Northern Ireland prepare to re open next weekend and those in scotland and wales await permission to do the same that means more upheaval for homeless people. Hywel griffith has been to meet some of them. Well, were full capacity at the moment so weve over 95 people. Normally bustling with backpackers, cardiffs youth hostel has a new purpose. Since april it has been housing many of the citys homeless, brought in during the pandemic. It is run just like a hotel. People come in and drop their keys off. The rooms have their own beds and wash facilities a shower, basin and they have a tv. Homeless since the age of 12, sara has spent the last month here. She says it has given her the stability to stay off heroin, and start to think about life long term. I am used to street life, im used to having people around and that. Before i never wanted a place never and now i cant wait to have a flat. You know, its a shocking thing, hearing myself saying what i want. The Welsh Government says it is determined people like sara will not go back to the street and will be able to go into housing, giving councils more money for long term accommodation. But putting the roof over someones head isjust one part of the challenge. Many people who normally sleep rough do not have a regular income and, during lockdown, money has been even harder to come by. Graham has been staying at the youth hostel too, but walking across the city to beg. He admits he is still struggling with addiction. I have to earn my money because otherwise im going to be sick and stuff, you know. Basically, i come up here to feed me and my girlfriend, obviously, in our habits and in our stomach. Back at the hostel, i meet a man who believes coming here has saved his life. He too wants a home his greatest fear would be returning to the streets. Sings. Now i am 55. How can i sleep in the streets . With this jungle people, the gangs. If you slept this period on the streets, we are dead all of us. The pandemic has turned many lives upside down, but it has also created a rare opportunity to help some of our most vulnerable. Hywel griffith, bbc news. More than half a million more people could be made homeless when the looming recession starts to bite. Thats the warning from john bird, the founder of the big issue who now sits in the house of lords. Hejoins us from cambridge. Good morning to you. We saw in the report there they mixed out, being placed in hotels, in hostels. Sarah, for example, has completely given up heroin, she says, now. But she is concerned about what happens next. The interesting thing is that this has been the first time anything like this has ever been done. We have got to pat people on the back who have done something for the first time. And there may be some mess ups, may be some problems, but lets stay behind this whole initiative and make sure none of those people end up back on the streets. If we decant them on the streets, it is a death sentence and we do not want to be doing that. Can ijust say, we do not want to be doing that. Can i just say, the we do not want to be doing that. Can ijust say, the point i am making at the moment, which i am banging away at with the government and in parliament and the republic is that we have a lot, lot more people and with the public, if we do not keep people in their homes and in some form of work we have a lot more people coming this way. That is the real big issue. If we have a half a million homes is presenting themselves as homeless or culling to themselves as homeless or culling to the local authority network, what you have got is a completely different situation calling to the local authority. Then picking up five 6000 people to the streets and them housed. And well have such an enormous loss of prosperity, our children moving into a bnp with their parents, all sorts of hit tonnes d and b bs. B bs. Im glad to see that the Prime Ministers think that we will not be returning to the authority of ten yea rs not be returning to the authority of ten years ago, which was an awful exercise of cutting the guts out. So you acknowledge the progress, john, but predictions of unemployment being up to 5 million by the end of the summer, how do we stop it from getting worse . Progress has been made, as you say, but what needs to happen now . There are two things. It is getting rid of the problem of existing homelessness. Then there is the really big problem of preventing homelessness and that means that what we have got to do is we have got to say no evictions for two yea rs. We have got to say no evictions for two years. We have got to allow people to stay in their homes. The government is going to have to pick up government is going to have to pick up the cost of keeping people paying their mortgages, paying the rent. If that they slip into homelessness, then the cost goes double, it cost twice as much to keep people in homelessness as it does to keep them in their own home. If we can create jobs, if the government can invest in businesses that keep people in work, then we need to create new kind ofjobs around the nhs, around education, around the environment, around kate in the community. We need to biggestjob programme that has ever been perceived care in the community. We cannot allow people to slip into the trickle of homelessness because it will destroy this generation and the next generation of young people. You say you would like to see an extension of another two years on the banner of another two years on the banner of evictions, but when i speak to some landlords, they say theyre having a time as well, they are in pa rt having a time as well, they are in part of the Chain Reaction if their economic woes to come. The ban on evictions. How are they protected . They are protected in that the government pays the rent or the mortgage. We do not want the landlords finding themselves out on the streets. We have to look at any prosperity as much as possible. For everybody. But all i am saying is that if we lose our prosperity or the opportunity people back, i do not want 100,000 people coming to me to say, can i sell the big issue and would destroy the work ive been trying to do for the last 20 years. John bird, thank you for your time this morning. It is time to say goodbye to nina. As she is altering the news per not everyone has the sunshine because that is quite a bit of rain falling for some today. It will fall into tonight in the first pa rt will fall into tonight in the first part of tomorrow as well. This is a recent rainfall today. You can see where most of that rain so far has been coming in. Really wet, particularly into the hills of north west england. Cumbria, lancashire. Across western scotland, snowdonia is well. We are close on any of the pressure, which is why it is so wet. It is also why it is so windy as well. Today is a windier thanit windy as well. Today is a windier than it was yesterday, and usually windy for the time of year. See how the yes of the day shaping up, more rain coming into Northern Ireland, heaviest and most persistent to the west. Snowdonia, north west england, heaviest into the hill and across northern and Western Areas of scotland. Its in scotland and Eastern England a lot of cloud and a bit of rain at times. South midlands the south and east midlands, the odd shower passion to quest quickly on the. Lets take look around the uk. You can see the adultery shower here across southern areas. The rain into snowdonia, again across north west england, across western scotland too. Temperatures just into the main teams for some of us today. Just look current 14 or 15 celsius. Into tonight, living continues where the rain has been so very wet. We will get around 40 to 50 million litres of rain, maybe a hundred over lancashire and is the risk of flooding and destruction, temperatures around ten to 13 celsius. Monday, we are going to start with some rain falling where today has been very wet. It will start to ease off gradually as we go on through the day. Sunshine breaking out across parts of southern scotland. Across southern areas of england as well. Blustery tomorrow, not as windy as it has been today. Temperatures much closer to average of the time of year in the week ahead, it will stay fairly u nsettled. Ahead, it will stay fairly unsettled. Not as windy, wind slowly easing. That is the four back to you. The actress rose byrne has starred in films including bridesmaids and peter rabbit. Now shes made a new movie about the murky world of american politics. Shes been telling our entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson all about it. This has been a very strange experience. I have been waiting for half an hour in a zoom waiting room to speak to you. How has it been for you . It is all relative. Im trying to get material to any mass going outside. Zoom, masks, it isa mass going outside. Zoom, masks, it is a new language, the new way of life. You mentioned the kids. Rafa and rocco, are they likely to the kids. Makea cameo . Will they come bursting through the curtain . If you are lucky with the masks we are here to talk about the film, irresistible. 20 says i do better with fear than you do with shame. It should have been hitting cinemas. It is being released on video on demand. Is there a little bit of you that is thinking, you beauty, i dont have to do a premiere, i dont have to get a dress on . I think day by day i am reallyjust getting through that one day at a time. Now im doing this today, and am doing that today, but listen, im not going to the four seasons and talking. I not going to the four seasons and talking. I love going to the four seasons and talking. You have mentioned it is a film that has been released in an election year, it is about us politics. Just explain a little bit about it. It is that any political world of financing and lampoons the democrats and republicans and zeros in on a small town in rural and republicans in rural wisconsin really reflects the biggest state of politics and how this tiny little towns are not usually important to strategists and how they become symbolic of the greater landscape of american politics. And reallyjust sort of exposing the corrupt system that is in place in terms of the money involved in the politics in america. The Democrat Party cant wind. They are getting desperate. That is really just another perfect are getting desperate. That is reallyjust another perfect example of the dc la trying to dictate how we live. I am from here. You play faith who is described as a total. What i cannot possibly use on tv, how do you describe her . I think she is a political animal. She gets dirty, she likes the blood on her hands. Why are you here . Crushing the last piece of hope in your eyes gets me off. It is good to see you. You look fat. How political have even been in the past . Did you stand for an election at school, head girl . No, more of a quietly political person. This year i got to do two great pieces. Irresistible and a nine part series, this is america. Which is about to be on the bbc. This fight is not about equality. It is about power. And i am just getting started. They were like two companion pieces in a way, it really reverse engineered where we are today and irresistible is very much in the current set of politics and how divisive it is and the agendas and huge personalities. Ifelt like i had a crash course, i thought i knew about it, about the political machinations of america. It turns out there is a lot going on. How many women are going to be forced to give birth to babies while we wait for housewives who have no idea what it is like to work to survive to feel comfortable with women having power . How long do we give people to adapt to change . An incredible cast, this is america, and what are the essentials to playing your character . A really good wig. That is essential. Incredible nails if you get the hair right. Piece of cake. The production. The project as a whole was so enticing. The tapestry of this part of history with these incredible characters and how much influence the feminist movement had politically in that time and we have yet to reach the heights of that today. And how third wave feminism really stands on the shoulders of second wave and second wave stands on the shoulders of first wave feminism. I am intrigued to find out which roles actors get recognised for out in the street. With you, i imagine a lot of them would be bridesmaids, damages. Anyone under ten, peter rabbit must be the go to film. Bless. Yes, love my peter rabbit fans, they are the best, my favourites. They are always a bit shy. Very confused about the accent and what is going on. Join them frolic i can frolic. This is fun. Im speeding up a little, speeding up quite a bit. Ah help and that is why adults shouldnt do kids stuff. Finally, i am intrigued, you are at home, glamorous on the top half. What is on your feet . Today i put on a nice pair of slacks, you will be pleased to know. That is your legs, but what about your feet . Barefoot. Nice and calm. Not going out thank you very much for speaking to us on bbc breakfast. Thank you. I was wondering where that line of questioning was going there. Irresistible is available to rent at home from various digital retailers. Andrew marr is limbering up. Thats all from breakfast today. Dan and louise are back from six tomorrow.
