Looking out across the beautiful, pristine greenfields of somerset without this year a small city of 200,000 people because, of course, theres no Glastonbury Festival. Crunch time for the owner of 17 of our biggest Shopping Centres like this one, as its expected yesterday less than half of the rain due to landlords was actually collected. Are some Shopping Centres going to have to shut down . Ill take a look. 0n the brink of glory. Liverpool will be crowned premier League Champions tonight if Manchester City fail to beat chelsea. Its thursday 25th june. Our top story some parts of the uk could see temperatures as high as 32 or 33 degrees celsius later today, which would make it the hottest day of the year so far. Public heath england has issued a Heat Health Warning and is urging people to check on vulnerable relatives who are self isolating. Throughout the programme, well discuss how best to stay safe in the sunshine and speak to stjohn ambulance and the rnli. Well also bejoined by business minister nadhim zahawi, and hear his thoughts on social distancing after pictures of crowded beaches emerged yesterday. First though, jon donnison has this report. If you thought yesterday was a scorcher, brace yourself for today. In many parts of the country, wednesday was the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures reaching 32. 6 degrees in southern england. People cooling off any way they can, but that can be dangerous too. A man has died after getting into difficulty in the river thames in berks. Today is expected to be even warmer and there are warnings for people to take care notjust outdoors but inside too. Younger people are particularly vulnerable this year, and people who may be fielding or staying indoors, or people isolated and staying indoors because theyre either concerned about infection just had an infection with covid, so we just wa nt to infection with covid, so we just want to make sure that everyone looks out for people who are isolated in the heat. Sometimes homes can get very hot, so just to ensure people dont get overheated. Uv levels are expected to be unusually high, meaning there a risk of sunburn. And social distancing is an issue. This was the beach in bournemouth yesterday. Elsewhere, this was whitby people were making more of an effort to spread out. With many expected to be holidaying at home this year, how people enjoy the sun safely is likely to be an issue for much of the summer. Temperatures, though, are expected to dip at the weekend. Jon donnison, bbc news. Lets find out a bit more detail on the hot weather from matt. What do those unusually high levels of uv mean . There is real concern about this. Exceptionally high uv levels, charlie. Good morning, normally across the uk at this time of year we see uv levels at six or seven, we are potentially at nine today and these could be record levels nationwide, especially in the south of england and south wales. The main causes behind that are we are very close to the summer solstice and the sun is at its highest. Through the winter and spring we saw an exceptional depletion of ozone levels in the Northern Hemisphere, and usually this is caused by natural weather patterns but that is going to have a big impact and, of course, at the moment we have pollution levels at fairly low rates given the lockdown we have seen across many areas. Clear skies as well and all that leads to the sunshine being that extra bit strong. It will take shorter in the sun to burn. Add onto that, we are struggling with the heat and humidity, temperatures in parts of the uk will peak at 33 today. All the uk will peak at 33 today. All the details in the next half an hour. Thanks, matt. Looks lovely this morning. Of course lots of us will be heading to the beach today to enjoy the weather. Fiona landin is on the seafront in Weston Super Mare. We are so spoiled by fantastic views across the country and you have one there too . I do, and at the moment, it is still pretty deserted, apart from this Family Building sand castles. Would you believe it, they actually got up at 2 a5am to come to the beach this morning. Yesterday it was a very different picture, it was absolutely packed, as we saw in bournemouth and brighten, but so busy here and driving into weston this morning, litter everywhere and seagulls finishing peoples chips from yesterday, it was so busy and some residents have said they are concerned we are still in a pandemic and social distancing is so key, the peer behind me is still shut, all the public toilets in weston are shut, and people are worried about how many are descending on the beach. Stjohns ambulance have said if you are out and about going shopping, you might have to queue outside to keep your distance. For those people that are concerned theyre not enjoying the heat, the news that after today things will slightly cool off a bit. Fiona, thanks very much. See you later. Covid 19 antibodies tests for nhs and care staff in england are being rolled out without adequate assessment according to a warning from medical experts. The tests establish whether someone has had the virus, but not whether they have developed immunity. 11; senior doctors and scientists have written to the british medical journal expressing concern that the tests are being introduced too quickly. 0ur health correspondent, naomi grimley, reports. Immunity remains one of the big mysteries of covid 19. Even if you know you have antibodies, does that mean youre actually immune to the virus and can you still transmit it to other people . Antibody tests are already proving popular and last month the government said it had bought 10 million to be used on nhs England Staff as well as some patients who are having their blood taken and want to know if theyve had the virus. But in a letter to the british medicaljournal, 11; senior academics question the wisdom of doing that. Theyre worried both about whether the tests have been properly assessed and whether its a good use of resources, given that there are still so many unknowns. There are lots and lots of problems with these tests. The first is they havent been properly validated and weve got very little data and understanding of what these tests actually mean. These tests are for research and they dont actually tell you, as an individual, whether you are safe or not. In response to the bmj letter, Public Health england said it believed its evaluation of the tests was to a high standard. The department of health said that Antibody Testing will play an increasingly Important Role as we move into the next phase of our response to this pandemic. Naomi grimley, bbc news. Pressure is growing on housing secretary Robert Jenrick to resign after he released emails and texts relating to his decision to grant planning permission to a £1 billion Housing Development in east london. Mrjenrick gave the green light for the project injanuary, just one day before a new local levy came into force. Two weeks after the decision, the developer, Richard Desmond, donated £12,000 to the conservative party. Lets get some more detail from our Political Correspondent, chris mason. The buildup to this is a little convoluted in a way, chris, but at the heart of it are fundamental questions about whats expected of ministers . Thats right. Good morning, charlie. What happened is mrjenrick and Richard Desmond, the former owner of the daily express and now a Property Developer, they met at a conservative fundraising dinner before christmas and they clearly had their own private phone numbers because there was messages that followed and there was a relu cta nce that followed and there was a reluctance from mr desmond to have to pay tens of millions of dough to a marxist council, as it was put, the reference to a Community Levy coming into force in Tower Hamlets in east london, where these flats we re in east london, where these flats were due to be developed, so the desire the planning permission was granted before that point. This is an idea that had been rejected, this planning idea, by the local council and government officials, but mr jenrick, the housing secretary, overruled that, he says hes always been a passionate advocate for the need to build more houses so he was acting as he saw fit. Planning permission was granted before the Community Led the was due to kick m, Community Led the was due to kick in, meaning this payment didnt have to be made to the local council. A couple of weeks later, Richard Desmond made a £12,000 donation to the conservative party. Mrjenrick said he acknowledges the way he communicated wasnt as good as it could have been, but he doesnt believe the decision was biased, but he acknowledged it looked like he was biased and as a result of all of this, the planning permission in the end was quashed. Chris, thank you very much. Some of the uks biggest local Authorities Say they are facing what amounts to bankruptcy unless theyre provided with more support. tx 00v a bbc investigation found that nearly 150 councils have support. A bbc investigation found that nearly 150 councils have forecast a combined budget shortfall of up to £3. 7 billion pounds during the pandemic. The government says councils in england are being given an unprecedented package of support. Weve been giving you regular updates about 5 year old tony hudgell, who wanted to raise £500 for the hospital that saved his life when he was a baby. Tony has two prosthetic legs and is doing a 10 kilometere walking challenge. His efforts have impressed many of us, including the duke and duchess of cambridge, who is patron of the evelina london childrens hospital. In a tweet, they said so far tony has raised more than £1 million. A staggering sum of money. A staggering sum of moneylj a staggering sum of money. I still remember when we interviewed tony when that amount was really tiny and we had his parents, the story about when he was in hospital after his first leg was amputated and he slapped the nurses bums. I will keep remembering it because i will keep remembering it because i will keep ringing it up good luck to them passing your driving test is an experience most of us will never forget, as it marks the start of a new level of independence. Thousands of learners are still waiting for the green light to get behind the wheel, though, after tests and lessons were postponed during lockdown. Breakfasts tim muffett has been speaking to instructors about the challenges of teaching people to drive from a social distance. 0ver over the past 20 years, chris has helped hundreds of people pass their driving test. Now hes being driven to despair. I never ever new it could be this bad, and werejust not hearing anything, so what we need is we need information, we need some kind of guidance so we can plan. There are more than 40,000 approved driving instructors in the uk, the vast majority are self employed. Lessons and tests have been stopped. So to have incomes. What should have been done better do you think . If we knew where we were, instructors could have gone out and found otherjobs and at the moment we cant do that, and at the moment we cant do that, and most instructors have been hanging on. I dont think it can get much worse than this, were just given nothing and i think we will lose many good driving instructors. Joe is 19 and has cerebral palsy. Lessons in his adapted car are banned, he cant book a test. Living ina ruralarea, banned, he cant book a test. Living in a rural area, the banned, he cant book a test. Living in a ruralarea, the public transport is not accessible, and both my parents work so this means until i passed my test, and i cant have driving lessons to pass my test, i will not be able to get out and have a sense of independence. My future, my career, is on hold and its quite scary and daunting and my confidence has gone quite downhill. Throughout the pandemic, driving instructors have been able to give lessons to key workers providing theyve already got a test book, but for some thats raised even more questions is it ever safe to give a driving lesson or not . Well do whatever we feel we can with regard to sanitising and wearing masks, but even some of the Insurance Companies have questioned the safety of wearing a mask to be able to communicate especially when there is background noises. Sasha works in a care home. As a key worker she was offered a driving test, but couldnt get to it. The only centres that we re get to it. The only centres that were offering it were london, birmingham and were offering it were london, birmingham and i think it was manchester, so you have to get to it. I dont obviously drive, we dont have a car in my household, so its, like, public transport is the only choice but we are told only go public transport if you really need to stop it im currently a half an hour walk from my workplace but as a drive, its probably, like, five minutes and to make it easier i could take more shelves maxxis to help out. I could probably take more ea rlys to help out. I could probably take more earlys to drive because its only a couple of minutes up the roads the driving Vehicle Standards Agency oversees tests and tuition in england and wales. It told the bbc meanwhile, a plea from the organisation that represents driving instructors. I would like to urge parents and pupils to not try and negate the need for a driving instructor because youre so worried about the risk of being in their car, because what we dont want to do is create the other Public Health risk of improperly trained candidates going to the test centre and maybe, just maybe, getting through the driving test on mum and dads training, but thats not were supposed to be preparing them for here, were supposed to be preparing them for a lifetime of safe driving. For now instructors and learners are stuck waiting for the green light. Tim muffett, bbc news. Lets take a look at todays front pages. The front of todays daily mail features a picture taken at southend on sea yesterday. The paper says beaches were packed just one day after borisjohnsons plea for sense. The mirror also leads on the hot weather saying lockdown weary brits headed for packed beaches alongside a photo of durdle door in dorset. The guardians main story is on the housing secretary Robert Jenrick, who has been accused of breaking the ministerial code after contacting the businessman behind a controversial planning application. The paper says texts and documents were released yesterday. They swim four times faster than they will, did you know that . I would have said the disparity would be even greater than that. They are pretty slow waddle is overland. The owner of 17 of the uks biggest Shopping Centres, including the metrocentre in gateshead and lakeside in essex, was struggling with big debts before the coronavirus crisis. Now it is in urgent talks with lenders to avoid administration. Sean is outside the Trafford Centre in manchester for us. The Trafford Centre is also part of the intu chain. 6 20am but that looks so empty. Good morning. 0rdinarily youd expect it to look like this but the last few months its look like this during peak times. 30 million would normally be passing through the Trafford Centre in manchester with debenhams, selfridges, john lewis, all major tenants. Huge food courts, cinemark, lots of people looking to spend a lot of money so you might wonder why intu, the owners here and donors of plenty of Shopping Centres across the uk are struggling. We can have a look at the impact of that now. 17 locations really are spread out across the uk. Glasgow, lakeside. The metrocentre in gateshead as well. The Ripple Effect and consequences will be felt far and consequences will be felt far and wide, they employ 2500 people here alone and across the business with the shops here and across the uk, it would be much more. When we look at how theyve been getting on over the last few years, this is where the big numbers really come in. They lost £2 billion. They wrap up in. They lost £2 billion. They wrap upa lot in. They lost £2 billion. They wrap up a lot of debt. Nearly £5 billion of debt is racked up. That is part of debt is racked up. That is part of the conversation with lenders. For a landlord like intu, the main source of income. Do they pay their rent over recent months. 0n the level of rent over recent years. Its that yesterday when it was quarterly rent, when lots of retailers are due to pay their rent, less tha n retailers are due to pay their rent, less than half of the rent was collected by landlords around the country, commercial landlords. It puts into perspective the kind of issues that intu are having to deal with. If we have a look at what the people are saying about this, colliers are a big company that look at the financial set up of a lot of retailers around the country. Colliers. David fox from colliers explained why there might be issues with intu. Intu are amongst a stable of landlords and owners that operate the main regional and big city Centre Schemes around the country and they are particularly let to an abundance of fashion retailers and its fashion retailers who have been hit onwards the hardest drought the covid process. Retail was already changing, we saw an accelerated rate of change over the last few years but the roots of these are in the 2008 crash and its been exacerbated over the last four years by the growth in internet sales. What covid has done in particular, we were expecting a rate of change in our market, see Shopping Centres repurposed for other uses. I think that covid is accelerating that process. So today or tomorrow, intu have said they will be updating everybody, talks with the lenders, discussions around the country that some Shopping Centres might have to close, if worst comes to worst, they are not able to restructure their finances, so we will keep in eye out this morning. How that quarterly rent they went in yesterday. We will have a look over the future of these kind of Shopping Centres. We will get more from sean throughout the morning. Lets indulge you with a bit of vision this morning. The image taken from the drone as you can tell. Doesnt look beautiful. There are times when you get up early, thursday morning in the middle of june. How about that. How about that . What a day. A hearing us mad . Good morning. Iwas that . What a day. A hearing us mad . Good morning. I was in a world of my own then. A very good morning. Enjoying a good morning sunshine, ive not been out for a while but its a beautiful starting glastonbury. The peak of the heat through this week, particularly across parts of scotla nd particularly across parts of scotland and Northern Ireland were temperatures will rise relative to yesterday. Just how warm blooded b. We could see some across england and wales, temperatures peaking. Lots of sunshine to go with it. A few exceptions, you can see across parts of Northern Ireland, heavy showers. It would dump across western parts of scotland. Low cloud to the north east of scotland and maybe the odd shower to the far south west later but just a odd shower to the far south west later butjust a reminder how hot it is going to be, temperatures in the mid to high 20s if not low 30s for a fair few but exceptionally strong sunshine across the uk. Uv levels across southern parts of england and wales, potentially record levels for us wales, potentially record levels for us at this time of year. Temperatures 29, possibly 30 in east anglia but Western Areas, starting to deal a little less hot and humid. Change will take a more notable turn into this weekend, the chart showing low pressure dominant to the north west of the country and as we going to saturday, that means more cloud around in rain. Rain through saturday, the better chance for sunshine with downpours across southern parts of england and wales but a blustery day, wins could be gale force for one or two and temperatures a significant drop. Something fresher on the way this weekend and that fresh appeal continues into sunday. Windy day across scotland and Northern Ireland, some of the whitest conditions on sunday particularly the west of scotland, the further south, wanted to showers, the bulk of the day will be dry and bright temperatures instead of being into the low 30s, more likely mid to high teens at rest for the vast majority so teens at rest for the vast majority so another hot day to come today but it will all change this weekend. Were on the beach in Weston Super Mare on another day of scorching weather. Well hear from the rnli and stjohn ambulance about how to stay safe in the sunshine. Good morning, heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. Today is expected to be the hottest day of the year so far, for the second day in a row. Yesterday temperatures reached 32. 6 degrees celsius at heathrow airport. Public Health England has issued a Level Three Health alert and is urging those heading out to enjoy the sunshine to observe social distancing and check in on vulnerable friends and relatives. Leading academics have raised concerns about the rapid roll out of covid 19 Antibody Testing for nhs and care staff in england. The blood test can identify whether a person has had the virus, but scientists warn this doesnt mean someone has developed immunity. In a letter to the british medical journal, clinicians also raise concerns about the reliability of the tests and the costs involved. Housing secretary Robert Jenrick is facing pressure to resign after he released emails and texts relating to his decision to grant planning permission to a £1 billion Housing Development in east london. Mrjenricks decision to approve the scheme, which was later rescinded, came the day before a local infrastructure levy would have added tens of millions of pounds to the cost of the project. The developer, Richard Desmond, then donated £12,000 to the conservative party. Both men have denied breaking any rules. Now its time for our daily appointment with our gp. Today were joined from nottingham by doctor jamie parker. Good by doctorjamie parker. Morning, drjamie parker. Are good morning, drjamie parker. How are you . Good, naga. How are you . Very well. Actually i think i was out in the sun too much this week because i became really tired and i wondered if i had heatstroke, and thats one of the things doctors like yourself will be warning people about today. Yeah, absolutely. Its going to be really hot and you have to be really careful when you go out, not only is it going to be sunny, but be careful and make sure you take water, where a hat and take suntan lotion and follow your mums advice. Mums always say that, as do dads youre going to be seeing people with the after effects, its not often people call their gp to ask what they should be thinking about today in terms of the sun. Youre absolutely right, when its like this normally it gets a bit quieter. It is after the heat that we are going to see the effects, you see people coming in with the sunburn, headaches, maybe hangovers, infected insect bites, things like that. Its the after effects. People need to be careful and safe, especially with the social distancing thats so important at the moment. What do you think about the moment. What do you think about the changes weve seen with social distancing, it is one metre plus as opposed to two metres, but two metres is better. Pubs are opening up, and we are showing pictures of the beaches they are packed, to be honest how are people viewing the new normal . I think we have got to be very cautious. 0bviously new normal . I think we have got to be very cautious. Obviously it is key to open up the economy and everything like that, but one weapon we have had against coronavirus is a social distancing measures that people have been following with the two metres. 0ne people have been following with the two metres. One way of explaining this is an achin you r two metres away from charlie. I am imagine one of you had coronavirus and you had a chat to metres apart, that carries with it a certain risk of you passing it on. What do you think would be the. How long would you have to have the same chat at one metre for the same risk . Logic would tell you 30 seconds or 15 seconds. Six seconds. 0h the one metre plus thing is what people have to be careful about. Although rates are coming down at the moment, theres no momentum to that if people dont follow the advice and keep up the social distancing they have been trying so hard to do. Otherwise things will go back up. Youve got to be really careful. Its interesting because people are desperate for a hug or social interaction, just some banter with people not in their own households, Different Company is so important, so Different Company is so important, so you Different Company is so important, so you go Different Company is so important, so you go out to pubs, perhaps even restau ra nts, so you go out to pubs, perhaps even restaurants, and you throw that jolly atmosphere into the mix and its human nature for barriers to lower. I think its going to be a real challenge when that happens. Social interaction is so key for so many of us. It is being aware that the new normal isnt. 0r many of us. It is being aware that the new normal isnt. Or will be a new normal when it is released, and weve got to be careful and weve got to bear in mind where weve come from with the social distancing and we keep it up. Drjamie parker, always good to talk to you. Thats the fact to lead with, the difference between two metres and one metre, if you were talking to someone one metre, if you were talking to someone for a minute at two metres, the equivalent risk in terms of being infected goes down to six seconds at one metre, is that correct . I yeah. Seconds at one metre, is that correct . Iyeah. Drjamie parker, a lwa ys correct . Iyeah. Drjamie parker, always good to talk to you, have a good day yeah. Startling always interesting when you hear the numbers broken down into practical application, isnt it . We will keep that two metres. Plenty of distance here but even more distance well down. Mr bushell, good morning a whole two floors away, seems like a world away, doesnt it . A strange morning for liverpool fans on their sofas this morning at home. A whole generation wont know what its like for liverpool to be champions after the 80s when they were so dominant, but it could be that 30 year wait for a league title ends tonight. Liverpool will be the premier League Champions if Manchester City fail to beat chelsea at Stamford Bridge later. They were on sparkling form last night, beating Crystal Palace 4 0. There were some cracking goals at anfield too, from Trent Alexander arnold and then fabinho. If city do win tonight, liverpool could then seal the title against them next week. So, are the players on edge . A lot of us, welljust watch it tomorrow not too overly excited. We know siti aisyah are a really strong tea m know siti aisyah are a really strong team and weve got to prepare for the game next week no matter what, whether they drop points tomorrow we still got to go there and try and beat them. Thats whats on our minds, if things go well tomorrow, well obviously celebrate but when push comes to shove, weve still got seven games i think it is and weve got to try and get all 21 points from their. Trend of speaking last night. Trent speaking last night. Elsewhere last night, there was a convicing win for Manchester United, who beat Sheffield United 3 0. All the goals were scored by one man anthony martial. Believe it or not, his hat trick was the first by any Manchester United player, in more than seven years. Marcus rashford set up a couple of them, showing its not only school meals he puts on a plate. In the nights other games, everton pushed norwich closer to relegation, bournemouth also stay in the bottom three after losing to wolves, and struggling aston villa got a point at newcastle. Now, leeds united have had to double check all the cardboard cut outs of fans ahead of their first home game back in the championship this weekend after a picture of 0sama bin laden was attached to a seat at elland road. Fans have been invited to buy so called crowdies, and send pictures of themselves or loved ones. 15,000 of them will be in place by saturday. But a cut out of the alqaeda leader has been removed and the club has said it will ensure there will be no more offensive images in place. And there was no crowd and no coaches but there were some familiar murray mutterings at the battle of the brits exhibition tournament. Andy murray got very frustrated with himself in a long and tiring defeat to kyle edmund at the National Tennis centre in roehampton in what was just his second competitive match after seven months out with injury. So it could be a historic night for liverpool fans. Strange, though, in a way if they win it when your team isnt playing. I know many of them would be prepared to wait until next week when the team could clinch the title on the pitch after playing. Thanks, mike. See you later on. So, as weve been hearing, liverpool could be on the brink of premier league glory tonight after their 4 0 win at home to Crystal Palace. If successful, it would bring to an end the reds 30 year wait for a league title. Breakfasts Jayne Mccubbin has been to merseyside to find out what it all means to life long fans. Commentator championship winner for the eighth time, a fantastic record. After 30 yea rs of the eighth time, a fantastic record. After 30 years of waiting, liverpool is on the brink of title glory. And the city has not one but two anthems to choose from. Meet jamie webster. An electrician until this song took off and took him around the world. How . Has your journey off and took him around the world. How . Has yourjourney beam, and your teams journey been, in how . Has yourjourney beam, and your teamsjourney been, in recent yea rs . Teamsjourney been, in recent years . Unbelievable for me, the last 18 months to two years has been ridiculous. Sensejurgen 18 months to two years has been ridiculous. Sense jurgen klopp 18 months to two years has been ridiculous. Sensejurgen klopp has taken over at ridiculous. Sensejurgen klopp has ta ken over at liverpool, ridiculous. Sensejurgen klopp has taken over at liverpool, its been a progressive ride where we keep Getting Better and better. If you say to me when i first played it that song was going to take you round the world and you would be a full time singer songwriter, musician, i would full time singer songwriter, musician, iwould have full time singer songwriter, musician, i would have told you where to go probably, i wouldnt have believed it. I got liverpool fc and the fans to thank. And what about those fans . Come on, you reds this is emily, diehard red. Fees done this before. Youve gone to town . I always go to town. Every big game gets the emily treatment but this year it means more because this year shes doing it for dave. Yes, this is for my poor dave, who i lost on the 29th ofjuly last year, and it was great pains because we were down by one point last year and he never got to see this. Days dying wish had been to liverpool take the title. Heres hoping for dave. What do you mean heres hoping . You have to believe. All supporters believe. Come on, you reds and they really do believe that this is their moment. But in the middle of a pandemic, oh, what a moment there will be no fans, no anfied roar, no victory parade. Meet frank potter old boys, another diehard red. He knows all about the importance of coming together in joy and celebration because hes the man who helped create londons 2012 london 0lympic opening ceremony. Who helped create londons 2012 London Olympic opening ceremony. you really want to know the value of something, you lose it for a while, the hug, the being able to pop in, being able to be spontaneous we really know now what those Little Things mean to us because theyve been absent, and to be absent from this after waiting for more than half of my life feels grim, and it really does feel good. Will it diminish the moment for you . We have to find a way for that not to diminish the moment, because we also know that these moments are really precious. Im sure liverpool fans are going to do this. Were going to find a way to make it amazing and to say that we have to be a part, we will not walk alone. Thats exactly whatjimmy brian and john are planning. Born in 1990, the year dalglish raised the trophy, three young pals who decided to study in liverpool to follow their dreams. For you guys born 30 years ago, what does this moment mean to you . We wa nt to does this moment mean to you . I think we are all going to get behind everyone and keep going. Ill be watching it along with the re st of ill be watching it along with the rest of the kop, we will be doing it together. In homes, on sofas, in video calls around the world, red fa ns video calls around the world, red fans will still find a way and if not tonight, surely its a case of when, not if. Some very excited fans there. Absolutely. Glastonbury festival was supposed to be celebrating its 50th anniversary live from worthy farm this year, with performances from the likes of sir Paul Mccartney and taylor swift. Im so bored of saying this was going to happen but its not happening. Those plans have been shelved due to the coronavirus pandemic, but glasto lovers have found alternative ways to celebrate, from the safety and comfort of their own homes, as entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson reports. And we rely on each other. Glastonbury. The music, the mayhem, the mud. The 50th anniversary was supposed to be getting under way right now. Instead, this is the scene from in front of the peer amid stage no crowds, just cowes. It all started in 1970 when dairy inspired by a. 0nly in 1970 when dairy inspired by a. Only 2000 people turned up, leaving him in debt. I wouldnt say a disaster, but it hasnt been as good as id hoped. 50 years later and once again trouble on the farm, the whole festival cancelled because of covid. The buildup to the 50th and then having to pull it was quite cutting, but, you know, all of our energy is going into next year now, so we are all about 2021 and making that a double celebration. And actually 50 yea rs double celebration. And actually 50 years is great, but the first year back after what weve been through this year will be, like, the most, like, Amazing Party i think and we all need it. More than 200,000 people would have been on the site this weekend, including mumford sons. They headlined in 2013 and we re sons. They headlined in 2013 and were going to make an unannounced appearance. It would sort of be all right if it was anything other than glastonbury, but glastonbury for us, especially as a band, we always set our hearts on it. Its the highlight its the best festival in the world. There is just its the best festival in the world. There isjust a its the best festival in the world. There is just a feeling, its the best festival in the world. There isjust a feeling, i think theres a magic in the air, lots of people talk about it, that stage, the amphitheatre isjust magic and theres a deep, deep magic to it. So will you be back next year . I hope so, i hope so. Ithink it will be turbocharged, glasto, next year, wont it . Bbc sounds off winner celeste made her glastonbury debut last year and was booked to return. Glastonbury, especially for me as return. Glastonbury, especially for measa return. Glastonbury, especially for me as a new artist, its the opportunity play among some of the biggest people in the world, and not only do you get to go as a performer but you get to go as a punter as well and see all these Amazing Things you dont get to in one weekend anywhere else. How will you be spending the weekend instead . Its my friends birthday so i might actually be in the park or something. To help fill the glastonbury gap, all weekend the bbc are rerunning classic performances. Obviously very disappointed to not be there but the great news is were still the 50th anniversary of this festival, because we can, because we have all this amazing access to all these brilliant performances from previous years, it encourages us to, you know, get your festooned lights out, your bunting out, open the doors and windows and try to recreate glastonbury in your own environment. Thats what identical twins ned and after one today, they first went in the 70s and have performed since everyone. As a substitute for not going this year, theyve made an animation explaining their love for the festival. It helps us with humans connecting to each other, it helps us understand what people find important about life and happiness and remind us of the best parts of ourselves, and thats why we go. Weve gone as kids. 0ur dad went to the first one. It feels like home. Theres an extra cruelty about glastonbury not happening this weekend, the weather forecast. There would have been glorious sun right through. Colin paterson, bbc news. 0n on that note, without glastonbury happening, we can enjoy the weather. This is glastonbury tor and john is there this morning. From where you are, you can probably see where the festival would have been. Are, you can probably see where the festivalwould have been. Charlie, about five miles away you can just about five miles away you can just about make out hilton. Piltdown. It is dominated by glastonbury tor and the tower. Look at the beautiful lush green fields of somerset. This is the weekend which is staged the Glastonbury Festival for 50 years and there would be a small city of Something Like 200,000 people, that is just the visitors plus all of the workers, thousands of them as well, just off there in the distance. As we well know, its not happening this year stop its quite an impact. Especially in the businesses who serve especially in the businesses who serve the punters. Everything is on a huge scale at glastonbury. By now, darrin olivers 600 caravans should be on site to help accommodate the thousands of workers at the festival. Theres been many infamous what he is but for darren, every major event for the whole of 2020 is a total washout. The annual turnover of what weve lost is operably plus of 350,000 of the year, with all the events that have cancelled, which are all the events, there isnt any that have gone ahead or look like they will be going ahead. Its the same story for pete tiffin. Just listen to the events hes had cancelled. Chelsea flower show, and then in june cancelled. Chelsea flower show, and then injune and Music Festivals kick in so its obviously glastonbury but probably green man, and of the road, at cetera. Peters been selling food at the festival for three decades. His weekend should look like this but instead of being at were the farm, his food units are in storage at a friends farm. No events means no income. Our revenue, we now know until next may is zero so the whole industry has got similar problems, really. Everybody is wondering where that influx will come from and whether things can be structured and also whether the festival will happen next year. There are a lot of unknowns. Glastonbury goers are, though, nothing of not resource poon though, nothing of not resource poor, determined not to miss out, sarah and john have set up glastonhomebury festival on line and have 370,000 followers, numbers to impress. We have festival bunting for people to make and for the kids, and people have been sharing the stuff theyve been up to. On the bbc are running such a fantastic thing as well. Its just really nice. I think its really good for everybody to have this kind of mass participation event, really. They are encouraging people to join participation event, really. They are encouraging people tojoin in activities on home at home, set up a tent and watch on tv, all to raise money for charities. It is giving people Something Really Nice to look forward to because no one can go to the festival, no one can go on holidays. Clean toilets. We can all have a shower in the morning. Sleeping but if you so choose, which is really welcome. No mud, no wellies, no lost tent. But glastonbury 2020 will never be forgotten and you can say you were there, wherever you are. People determined not to let the small minorfact that people determined not to let the small minor fact that customary isnt on ruin their weekend. And i was thinking a couple of minutes ago, you can always say you are at glastonbury 2020. The sex pistols concert, the marquee club, woodstock, all those people telling you were there, you can actually say you were there, you can actually say you were there, you can actually say you were at glastonbury 2020 even if you were at glastonbury 2020 even if you are sitting in a tent in the back garden. I can show you some spec macular countryside from live drone shots. Bring you back onto the top of the two are now and show you something. We call it normal for glastonbury. If youve been to the festival you might know what were talking about. You see the most extraordinary sites. Look at this. Isnt that amazing . Emily in her suit of armour made by terry english was been making arm of the movies and tv s, excalibur, gladiator, jabberwocky, even lawrence of arabia, thats along his career has lasted for. Gladiator. Perfect for social distancing, that sword. Look at that. Just the type of thing you get used to seeing it customary. John has been telling me he has been coming up to the tor every day since lot down to lose a bit of weight to fit into his own personal suit of armour. Whatever floats your boat. We will leave you with that striking image. Thats glastonbury 2020, that is what it is all about. Whatever floats your boat, i like that. Magnificent scene this morning, look keen swimmers had hoped they morning, look would be able at that. To take the plunge again from 4thjuly which is when pubs, museums and hairdressers in england are able to reopen. However, when further easing of lockdown restrictions were announced earlier this week there was no mention of Swimming Pools, lidos or indoor gyms. 0ur reporter luxmy gopal is at hathersage outdoor pool in the Peak District. Understandably empty but it does look so inviting. Good morning. Absolutely. It really does. Welcome to hathersage Swimming Pool. Look at how tempting the water is, look at the beauty of that and this cylindrical is nestled within the Peak District so you can even see greenhill speaking over the top here. Actually, in any other year, ona here. Actually, in any other year, on a day as hot as yesterday, this place would have been packed with up to 800 people visiting in any given day, pulls like these are going to stay close to the next few weeks and thats because from the fourth of july in england, while you can have a pint in the pub, get a trim at the headdresses, see a film in the cinema, you cant take a dip in an outdoor pool. That decision has been criticised by groups in the industry we wa nt criticised by groups in the industry we want to know for example, swim england, the governing body, wants to know what all the pools need to do in order to reopen safely and someone do in order to reopen safely and someone else is the assistant manager, george. You are preparing to reopen on the fourth . Thats right. On the 15th ofjune we received guidance from swim england how to operate safely and we thought that was a green light to get preparations ready in case we can reopen. What steps have you made to make this covid safe . Reopen. What steps have you made to make this covidsafe . Booking systems to avoid queues, what sessions we can run such as lanes in sessions, instead of the more generic public swims. Things like that. The government says it must make sure plans are thorough and with minimal risk. What do you say . If you can go to the cinema and you can go and get your hair cut, you can go and get your hair cut, you can go and get your hair cut, you can go to massive Shopping Centres, how is this more risk than going to somewhere like that . With plans not being able to reopen when you thought, what impact does that have on your business . Its detrimental, we are missing a peak season. 800 people would be through the door at this time. Obviously we wont be seeing that. But it is still a peak season. And you spent a fortune on refurbishing . The whole area has been completely refurbished. Up to £300,000 in the last six month, supposed to be a big grand reopening. The government says its working with the gin and Leisure Centre for a safe and phased reopening. It is likely to be sometime in the 15th ofjuly but they say that depends on Public Health guidance and just england. We will have to wait a few weeks more until we can take a refreshing dip ina until we can take a refreshing dip in a pool like this. To cool down in the scorching temperatures weve got today. It certainly does look inviting. 0n today. It certainly does look inviting. On our many frustrated swimmers. Matt will give us a Bigger Picture about the weather. And if few warnings. Theyre on the edge of glory, and will be crowned premier League Champions this evening if Manchester City fail to beat chelsea. Its thursday 25th june. Our top story some parts of the uk could see temperatures as high as 32 or 33 degrees celsius later, which would make it the hottest day of the year so far. Public heath england has issued a Heat Health Warning and is urging people to check on vulnerable relatives who are self isolating. Jon donnison reports. If you thought yesterday was a scorcher, brace yourself for today. In many parts of the country, wednesday was the hottest day of the year so far with temperatures reaching 32. 6 degrees in southern england. People cooling off any way they can, but that can be dangerous too. A man has died after getting into difficulty in the river thames in berkshire. Today is expected to be even warmer and there are warnings for people to take care notjust outdoors but inside too. Some people are particularly vulnerable this year, and theyre people who may be shielding or staying indoors, or people isolated and staying indoors, because theyre either concerned about infection or theyve just had an infection with covid, so we just want to make sure that everyone looks out for people who are isolated in the heat. Sometimes homes can get very hot, so just to ensure people dont get overheated. Uv levels are expected to be unusually high, meaning a greater risk of sunburn. Some on the hot weather from matt. Warnings some on the hot weatherfrom matt. Warnings in place ai going some warnings in place and matt is going to tell us more, uv levels could hit a new record . Exactly, naga, very unusual for this could hit a new record . Exactly, naga, very unusualfor this part could hit a new record . Exactly, naga, very unusual for this part of the world. For perspective, uk levels are normally measured numerically, normally around six or seven numerically, normally around six or seven in the uk but today the forecast is potentially as high as nine. These unusually high levels of uv in the uk are because of a few things we havejust uv in the uk are because of a few things we have just hit the summer solstice, so the sun is at its highest in the sky in the uk at the moment. Through winter and spring, ozone levels above the Northern Hemisphere were unusually depleted due to natural weather patterns across the Northern Hemisphere. Weve been in a state of lockdown for many, so pollution levels are low, pollution normally scatters and wea ke ns low, pollution normally scatters and weakens the uv, so all that and the fa ct we weakens the uv, so all that and the fact we have blue skies helping to keep the uv levels much higher and stronger. If youre spending any length of Time Outdoors today, make sure you take the necessary protection and to go with it, exceptionally warm weather temperatures are more widely into the 30s in the uk and ill have more on that in the full forecast in the next half an hour. On that in the full forecast in the next halfanhour. We look forward to it, thank you very much. Theres quite a long buildup to this, isnt there, chris . Takes a little bit of explaining but it comes down to some fairly important principles. It does. Good morning, Richard Desmond, former owner of the daily express, now a Property Developer, robertjenrick, the house secretary, he gets the ultimate decision on things like planning permission and they meet at a conservative fundraising dinner before christmas and agree to meet up before christmas and agree to meet up again pending the decision on planning permission for this development in east london, a poor and crowded part of east london. Mr desmond, particularly concerned about getting this sorted before a new Community Levy kicked in that would cost him tens of millions of pounds in extra tax. Planning permission was granted by mrjenrick just a day before the tax would have kicked in. A couple of weeks later, a £12,000 donation to the conservative party. Mrjenrick later quashed the planning permission because of the appearance of bias, as it was described, but he denied it was actually biased. As things stand, there isnt planning permission for this particular development, but the exchange of text between the two of them revealed in documents published last night pretty awkward for mrjenrick, he acknowledges his communication could have been better but hes a big believer in building more houses and thats why he had an open minded outlook, as he described it, on this application from the very start. Chris, thanks very much. Leading academics have raised concerns about the rapid rollout of covid 19 Antibody Testing for care staff in england. The tests establish whether someone has had the virus, but not whether they have developed immunity. Concerns about the reliability and the costs involved of the tests were issued in a letter to the british medicaljournal. More than 500,000 people who live in two german districts have had lockdown reimposed after a spike in coronavirus cases. One area is home to a meatpacking plant where more than 1,500 workers have tested positive for covid 19. Europe reporter gavin lee is in munster this morning. This is what the conversations are about, we are mindful in the uk as lockdown is easing, when these pockets of second waves or reemergence of infections and cases arises . Yes, and because germany, naga, has been seen as this shining example in some ways of tackling the coronavirus crisis, there are patterns here of a stop start process of the locking and unlocking again that might come a pattern not just in the uk but across europe. Whats happened . Just in the uk but across europe. Whats happened . This is the biggest meat reduction factory in germany, it has the biggest coronavirus outbreak, 1700 workers at this meat production plant, an abattoir, slaughters 30,000 animals a day, 7000 workers, the entire workforce, are under quarantine and they are literally fenced off and we saw them yesterday guarded by police and security officials. Many of the workers are living in workers puss puss accommodation, Migrant Workers from poland, bulgaria and rumania, some shouting they wanted to go back and some said they had children to feed workers. They hadnt been paid and they want to go back to their home. They are relying on local volunteers bringing in food. All the while there are questions about what happened to this company. Scientists investigating how said one contributing factor appears to be the air conditioning system and the way the air was moving faster through the building and the cold temperatures but charities are also saying that they were ignoring social distancing rules, which the company denies, but the Investigation Continues here. Gavin lee, thank you so much. Glastonbury festival was supposed to be celebrating its 50th anniversary live from worthy farm this weekend, with performances from the likes of sir Paul Mccartney and taylor swift. Those plans have been shelved due to the coronavirus pandemic so the bbc is set to broadcast classic glastonbury performances from over the years in the Music Festivals absence. Previous headline sets from beyonce, adele, coldplay, david bowie and jay z will be shown on bbc two and bbc four. I hope they replay all the money bits that we just saw as well, because they are some of the best bits some are the most iconic images, arent they . We are live in glastonbury this morning, and in the area, and in contrast of those muddy scenes, it is, as youre probably aware by now, it is a glorious day across much of the country today. Officially the hottest day of the year yesterday, record breaking temperatures expected today, matt will keep us up to date with that today and a Level Three Health alert has been given over the heat and the high uv has been given over the heat and the high uv levels. Fiona lamdin is on the beach in Weston Super Mare, where temperatures are expected to reach 30 degrees celsius later today. People need to be mindful while they are enjoying it . Yes. It already feels very warm. Yesterday. At the moment its pretty quiet but yesterday it was absolutely rammed and one localised boat who said he had lived here for ten years and despite the pierre being closed, he had never seen the beach so busy one local who i spoke to. This family got up at 2 45 a. M. , the beach was still dark when they arrived. Lets have a quick talk to them, why did you get up so early . We thought we would bring the kids out, they havent been out in three months and we heard the beach was busy yesterday but we didnt want to come out when it was busy, so we thought we would come out quite early. It was quite an early start today this is their first outing in three months apart from the little walks in our field. Wow and you certainly have the beach pretty much to yourself . Exactly, it was early when we came down, we caught the sun rise and they have been busy. For them it is, like, something new because they havent done it for a long time. Just tell me, what is it like being out for yourfirst long time. Just tell me, what is it like being out for your first time in three months . Super exciting because it feels like everything has changed. Going in the car probably felt like a bit of an adventure . Yeah, because we havent been out for so long it looked new thanks for so long it looked new thanks for joining for so long it looked new thanks forjoining me, they will leave as soon as forjoining me, they will leave as soon as it gets busy, they say, and the kids have got to go back for homeschooling. Many cant even get to the beach or dont have access to outside space. I have been to see some People Living in the 15th floor ofa some People Living in the 15th floor of a tower block in bristol. Go this is the first time numarees children have stepped out in 100 days. Im faster than him they were so days. Im faster than him they were so concerned about catching coronavirus, his family have spent 24 hours a day cooped up on the 15th floor, but the heat has driven them out. We suffer, especially in this weather, very hot, and we live on quite a high floor, 15, so my kids feel bored in very hot weather and there is inside to play, so they have brought most of my stuff. Thats why im happy to seem my kids playing outside now. I won so much has changed while theyve been inside. When they locked down, it was spring. But months on, they have stepped out into summer. The grass has grown and the flowers are out. Ijust smell the flowers. Smell the flowers. And whats your favourite colour flower . Red. And are you happy to the outside . Yeah next door, single dad of samuel and his two little boys are also struggling. Very hot very, very hot the heat rises. Its like a sauna. Not as extreme as a sauna but hot enough. Bearing in mind we cant go out as much as wed like to. The safest thing when youve got children is to keep them close, but then youre going to be like in an oven after months of being inside looking out, the heat is finally forcing these families back into the outside world. The tide is not expected until 10 30am. They are expecting many people here today but we are in the middle of a pandemic. The pier is still closed, there are no public toilets open anywhere in this town on the messages, if you are coming to the beach today, please, please keep your distance. Charities like stjohn ambulance, are warning us to take extra care as temperatures rise. Werejoined now from portsmouth by medical director, dr lynn thomas. Good morning to you. Thank you for your time this morning. You got those lovely blue skies. A lot of people want to get outdoors today. You are one of those, not trying to spoil the occasion but making sure people are careful. Absolutely. We dont to spoil people spun and just enjoy the sunshine safely. Social distancing is still really important. The message still is, if it all possible, keep two metres from people outside of your family. Firstly, talkers through the risks associated, heat and particularly this high uv level. What should we be looking out for . You need to look up be looking out for . You need to look up the most vulnerable people, the elderly are particularly prone to getting on well in the high heat and high uv. If getting on well in the high heat and high uv. If they are going outside, our advice would be to stay inside possible. Its very difficult and tempting to go out but make sure if you are outside, you got plenty of sunscreen and are wearing a hat. Try and stay in the shade as much as possible and make sure you take plenty of cool drinks with you. If the glorious weather is on, its tempting to go out and drink alcohol but that can make the situation worse leading to higher levels of dehydration. What other signs to look out for . Maybe you can be unaware of them yourself. A slight headache, feeling more tired than you might otherwise. Not necessarily very clear if you are suffering from some kind of heat exhaustion. And often you wont notice it yourself. It will be people around you. Its important to look out for those around you. A worsening headache, dizziness can come along, people might look flushed. The biggest worry is blowing onto heat stroke which is when the body cant regulate its own temperature and it continues to overheat so if somebody stops sweating, thats and you need as soon as stops sweating, thats and you need as soon as somebody starts calling them down, move them into a cool place, see, if there are any signs they are unconscious or really confused, please get medical help. You mentioned at the beginning, this is all happening at a time of particular difficulty in relation to coronavirus and people being urged to keep their distances but more people will be going out. How get up to you, and stjohn ambulance to the numbers of people who will be outdoors, may be flocking to the same places . We are providing a lot of support to the nhs. Supplying ambulances and working in emergency departments. It needs to be emphasised at the moment that one of the worries about teachers is that not all of them have lifeguards so if you are going to go to the beach, please check the rnli website to see if you have guards. We are ready to step in whenever we are required. Really, our resources are channelled towards supporting the nhs response at the moment. Doctor thomas, as you are speaking, you will have seen some of these images from a number of places. Born within a couple of other beaches. These were pictures from yesterday. Maybe some dismay on your part because they are absolutely packed. Yes, it is disappointing to see because people have been so good during the pandemic and following the rules. These, please follow the rules. It is still a pandemic, we are getting cases admitted to hospital. What are you going to be doing . As with many people, i will spend time in front ofa people, i will spend time in front of a zoom camera having conversations about how we can continue support not only for the nhs but as places and events start to reopen. Its important people ta ke to reopen. Its important people take note of all those warning signs and what to look out for because it will be very warm in a lot of places. Borisjohnson has described anti body tests which are currently being rolled out in england, as a potential game changer in the fight against covid 19. Antibody tests examine blood to look for signs of past infection, but scientsts and clinicians warn this is no guarantee that long term immunity exists. 0ur health correspondent, naomi grimley, reports. Immunity remains one of the big mysteries of covid 19. Even if you know you have antibodies, does that mean youre actually immune to the virus and can you still transmit it to other people . Sharp scratch. Antibody tests are already proving popular and last month the government said it had bought 10 million to be used on nhs England Staff as well as some patients who are having their blood taken and want to know if theyve had the virus. But in a letter to the british medicaljournal, 14 senior academics question the wisdom of doing that. Were joined now by our medical correspondent fergus walsh. We heard what the tests are for, what they show and what they want to tell us but now weve got this group of doctors, senior doctors and scientists writing to the british medicaljournal saying they are concerned about the nhs rollout, the rollout of these tests. What are they concerned about . The concern is that what is the point of buying 10 million tests, Antibody Tests, we are still unclear what having a positive Antibody Test result tells you. Ive spoken to a lot of nhs frontline staff. While they were queueing to be tested. All of them we re very queueing to be tested. All of them were very keen on finding out their antibody status. They would not change behaviour, if they had a positive result. It wouldnt stop using ppe, engage in any risky behaviour. They wanted to know and i think as the months go on, if we get a big second wave of covid 19 in the winter, and we have assessed all front line nhs staff. Well be able to tell those who were positive whether they do have some protection come a second wave. How whether they do have some protection come a second wave. How long does that take, because that is the problem . If you dont know, you cant do anything with the information. At the moment, if you have a positive Antibody Test, it cannot give you any information which is relevant to you. We know previous coronavirus is, stars and mers, it did offer some protection of but it wasnt long lasting and we also know that some people were getting positive Antibody Test results you had covid 19, their antibodies are waning after a couple of months. We know that with some of them, with the common cold viruses, coronavirus, that immunity goes quickly indeed but its the long term where these Antibody Tests help us get an understanding of what protection gives but we may have to wait until the winter to we have a second wave. One of the issues was about the accuracy of the tests as well. There are tests by roach and abbott as well, specific tests, which are blood drawn i think. Roche. But the best results and a ccu ra cy roche. But the best results and accuracy roche. But the best results and accuracy accuracy is 93 . Roche. But the best results and accuracy accuracy is 93 . Both the abbott and the roche Antibody Tests were evaluated by Public Health england at their laboratories at porton down and they came back as both specific or coronavirus. They do occasionally, they can occasionally give false negatives but if you got a positive result on one of those tests, you can be pretty certain you have antibodies but the concern from the authors, the bmj, is that the assessment may not be completely robust, they are worried how the tests are being evaluated. So those are genuine concerns. What borisjohnson was saying, i think back in march, that this could be a game changer was back then, we had an assumption that if you had antibodies, it would protect you and we even had talk of immunity passports. Thats all gone out the window. Completely. There is no suggestion that having a positive antibody result means that you are in any way protected from covid 19 but at some point, and i keep asking this question of immunologists, virologist, when will we know . At some point we will get a clear idea but it may be months and months away, how much protection antibodies give you how long that lasts. Bearing in mind where we started with this letter to the british medicaljournal from this group of doctors and scientists, and in looking at what scotlands chief medical officer, doctor greg smith has done, is written to all the Health Boards saying dont offer these on demand Antibody Tests to nhs staff, care workers or patients. He says they should be used for surveillance measures only. What is the difference in strategy here . Surveillance is key. I have Antibody Test from biobank, that is a cohort of half a million britons. They want my blood. And they will be checking, they are doing surveillance. I had to pop in the post. I thought i wouldnt do it while we are on us. So that sort of surveillance is crucial and its that surveillance done around the uk which has given us done around the uk which has given us the estimate that around one in 20 people in the uk have antibodies so 20 people in the uk have antibodies so surveillance is important. The concern here from the people who have written to the bmj is why purchase 10 million of these and clearly scotland has ta ken a different approach. You could argue that Public Health england and the government is taking a very long term view here and by having this mass pool of data of nhs staff and care staff, they will be able to make a judgement, second wave, which we all hope would happen but we should surely prepare for. What level of protection as antibodies have given, by seeing how many staff who have positive antibodies in may, june, are protected come second wave, lets say, in the autumn winter. Fergus, its always interesting to talk to you. I want your blood, not because im s a vampire but because there is such good stuff in your blood, that is my assumption. That did sound a bit weird, didnt it . It did. 7 29am. We are indulging you this morning with are indulging you this morning with a beautiful image. This is glastonbury. The festival would have been on, they would been arriving for Glastonbury Festival but we have these beautiful images of glastonbury tor. The irony is, what do you think of when you think of glastonbury . Wellies, mud. Crowds of people. There you go. It wouldnt have happened that way. Lets have a chat this morning. Those images i am seeing there, im looking at the skyline above you in Central London. Some words of caution around as well. We do indeed. Glastonbury looks stunning. 0ne crumb of comfort, if you are hoping to be in glastonbury, those blue skies will not remain. There is rain on the waiver today in the sunshine, strong sunshine forecast. If we look at the forecast for today, hot and humid weather and if you are struggling in the heat, temperatures not dropping below 20 degrees overnight in some southern counties and even hotter today compared with yesterday for some of you. Look at these temperatures lots of strong sunshine overhead. A few exceptions this morning. Thunderstorms across parts of Northern Ireland. A few more breakouts on the west later on. North east scotland, misty on the coast but temperatures to confirm again, well into the 30s for some but as charlie has hinted, caution and if you are spending any length of Time Outdoors, record making uv levels and son strength across some parts of england and wales. This evening and overnight, showers and thunderstorms take out more widely. It many stay dry but a few midnight for the most part. Like last night, temperatures not dropping below 19 or 24 some. Into friday. Still hot and humid. A few changes. Glad around. Sunshine across many areas. The greatest chance for a few showers across northern and eastern england. A few more breakouts through the day. Some of the worst of the storms across western scotland, Northern Ireland in north west england well will to feel cooler and we could still get to 29 or30. 29 or 30. This weekend will bring respite because low pressure to the north of the uk through friday into saturday will bring atlantic air and sweep away the humidity but also on the charts, some rain at times for all of us on saturday, a bit of sunshine in between the downpours but they could still be heavy and thundery and a blustery day to go with it with temperatures close to gale force in some areas wind strengths. Most persistent rain on sunday in western scotland, heavy showers for Northern Ireland and Northern England further south, more bright weather but a blustery day across the board and bright weather but a blustery day across the board and instead bright weather but a blustery day across the board and instead of temperatures like today, into the high 20s and low 30s, most bases will be in the mid to high teams. Cooler conditions, fresher weather after the heat and humidity and strong sunshine of today. Back to you both. Off today, back tomorrow, what did you say . I cant remember now after the strong sunshine and heat and humidity of today, it will start to get cooler. Oh, i see i thought you were saying you were off tomorrow and back the next day oh, youre not, you are here off today and back tomorrow. Hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and naga munchetty. Today is expected to be the hottest day of the year so far, for the second day in a row. Yesterday temperatures reached 32. 6 degrees celcius at heathrow airport. Public Health England has issued a Level Three Health alert and is urging those heading out to enjoy the sunshine to observe social distancing and check in on vulnerable friends and relatives. Uv levels could reach a record high. Pressure is growing on the housing secretary Robert Jenrick to resign after he released emails and texts relating to his decision to grant planning permission to a £1 billion Housing Development in east london. Mrjenrick gave the green light for the project injanuaryjust one day before a new local levy came into force. Two weeks after the decision, the developer, Richard Desmond, donated £12,000 to the conservative party. Lets get some more detail from our Political Correspondent, chris mason. Chris, theres quite a long buildup to this and a lot of texts and e mail trails that have now been made available, but what do we make of it . Good morning, here is the timeline mrjenrick is the house secretary, he has final say with planning permissions, that are highly controversial, then Richard Desmond, used to own the daily express, now a Property Developer that wanted to build flats in Tower Hamlets in east london, a poor and crowded borough, they met at a tory fundraising dinner before christmas and there were texts that followed after and mr desmond was keen to get planning permission sorted before the big local tax would whack him for tens of millions of pounds. Yes the permission was granted in the nick of time, and then, though, it was rescinded. Mrjenrick acknowledging there was the appearance of bias in the decision even though he denied there was any bias at all. Still planning permission is yet to be granted in this case. Mrjenrick acknowledges his communication could have been better but he believes in the importance, he says, of building new homes. Were joined now by business minister nadhim zahawi. Good morning and thank you for your time this morning. We will come onto some of the issues around social distancing and other issues in a moment but if we can talk about robertjenrick for a moment, as chris was outlining, what do you think he got wrong, what did mr jenrick get wrong . Well, robert has now written very clearly to the selected and, as he promised to the select committee, has published all correspondents and texts with the developer, and i think he spent over an hour in parliament explaining exactly what happened and, as he quite rightly says, with the advantage of hindsight, he would have dealt with the matter differently but he did the right thing and the matter will be decided bya thing and the matter will be decided by a different minister. Thats the right way to go about this, he wa nted right way to go about this, he wanted to get more housing built. Hes got the first secretary of state to look at the balance between viability of development, the labour mayor of london would have done the same thing with lots of developments, where you look at how much Affordable Housing you can get into a scheme versus whether it is deliverable viably. That happens all the time. As mark sedwill, the cabinet secretary said, of the labour party, this matter is considered over by the Prime Minister. It is an easy distraction for labour away from them not supporting families and children back to school, which is what we should focus on, getting businesses up should focus on, getting businesses up and running and children back to school. Im glad keir starmer is having a conversion to support the Prime Minister on getting kids back to school, we have over1 million going into school. Im happy to talk about some of the other issues ina talk about some of the other issues in a moment but i want to focus for a moment on robertjenrick and the texts you talked about. We have a situation. Reason why lots of people think this is important, and you say its a distraction, but this is fundamentally about trust, which is fundamentally about trust, which is very important right now, which im sure you would agree with, and you look at the detail of some of these texts, and for those who havent gone through them, we have what is quite a cosy dinner that the two men, robert enric and Richmond Desmond that at, where they had a discussion and there an exchange after that robertjenrick. Robert jenrick says, good to spend time with you tonight, desmond. Desmond said we will call the office tomorrow to arrange things. That was november. We fast forward to december the 23rd when things have progressed quite a bit and Richard Desmond is keen to get a move on and he is saying, morning, robert how does the advice look . We have to get approval before january the 15th otherwise payment of £45 million to the Tower Hamlets means we have to stop and reduce social housing. Thank you, look forward to hearing from you. No reply. I will spend time going through this with you. On january the ninth we have a message sent from one of mrjenricks advisors saying, on timing, this is within the department, my understanding is secretary of state robertjenrick is insistent the decision is issued this week. Tomorrow. As next week viability of the scheme is impacted by a change in the Community Infrastructure levy, the thing that would have given the local authority £45 million. You put those things together and this looks cosy and it looks wrong. How do you read those two things . Well, the reason that you have been able to read out those texts to your viewers today, rightly so, by the way, is because Robert Jenrick promised the select can he would promise everything around this decision. He has said with the benefit of hindsight he may have done things slightly differently, he doesnt think that he was biased in a nyway doesnt think that he was biased in anyway but the perception of bias that allowed this to happen was the reason that robert pulled this application and allowed another minister to determine in those m essa g es minister to determine in those messages you just read out, interesting two words, one was viability and the other was social housing, and robert wants to both things happen, more social housing being built, more housing being builtand a being built, more housing being built and a viable development. Theres no point us talking about development and delivering housing for those families that most need it to get them on the housing ladder, young people who want to get on the housing ladder if we dont deliver development. If you look at all the evidence, it looks like youve got a housing minister who listens more carefully to a wealthy developer who has the ministers private mobile numberand has the ministers private mobile number and hes listening harder to them than he is to those he should be serving, and it becomes a distraction, why should they trust him and it comes down to trust, doesnt it . I personally, this government has been more transparent on this issue than any previous government. Firstly. Transparency doesnt make it right. Transparency isa doesnt make it right. Transparency is a great rate of sunshine and a wonderful disinfectant when it comes to government decisions, thats a good thing at low government, city cant as the mayor of london, Tower Hamlets or the government, that is only right sadiq khan. But back to the point, do we want to seem more Housing Development actually built with more Affordable Housing, making it viable for it to actually happen, that was the intention that robert enric wanted to deliver this development robertjenrick. The perception of bias is there and therefore the Development Decision is being held by a different minister to look at. Mark sedwill, the cabinet secretary, said the specifics had closed and we need to focus on getting children back into school. I was hoping to talk about the buildup for business and planning to allow restaurants and pubs to operate alfresco dining. Lets talk about that now because you are aware that the weather conditions are making people concerned about people gathering and social distancing, real concerns about that today, so what is your advice to people as they try to go outdoors but often they are gathering in the same places together. The british people have been truly fantastic. Theres surveys around the world about how different nations have behaved when looking at the guidelines and staying alert to control the virus and we are right up there and i want us and we are right up there and i want us to remain at the top of the league. You can gather outdoors in groups of six and two households can gather indoors and enjoy each others company. The most important thing is we follow the guidelines and stay two metres apart and if you cant, one metre plus mitigation, a Face Covering when youre travelling on public transport is the additional mitigation thats important but if we remain alert and vigilant, and we make sure that we control the virus, then we can go back to as normal a life and business as possible. Its really important and it would be a crying shame for the indulgence of a few for this virus to get out of control and for there to be such a massive spike, which i hope wont happen because we now have test and trace, where we can work with local authorities and the biosecurity sent her to stamp out local spikes like we have seen in kirklees and leicester. Be careful and dont feel that the virus has gone, it hasnt gone away, it is still living amongst us and it will rear its ugly head the moment we slacken our resolve in controlling it. An Important Message and we can still hear you, i think your image has frozen for a moment but we will keep talking if youre happy with that. You are the minister for business and industry, do you know how many have been given redundancy notices while on furlough. 0n looking at a report that says up to 2 million jobs could be lost in september as the government cuts the furlough scheme im looking. Do you currently know how many people have been given their notice while on furlough. So, the numbers i have is that around 31 of the workforce are working from home. About 40 are actually working in their workplaces. Specific to redundancy notices . I hear you. About 10 million people, or around that, who are not working at all. We monitor the different groups and the announcements from Different Companies in terms of consultations around redundancies. The reason we introduced. Do you know how many people have been given redundancy notices during furlough . To be honest, no i dont, but what we do is we make sure we monitor each and every announcement from every corporate around the country, and we look at figures of people registering with the dwp, department of work and pensions, as well. The important thing is to make sure the recovery is as robust as we can make it, which is why we are working for a Recovery Task force, alloc sharma, the secretary of state, is working with unions and businesses and business representative organisations to make sure the recovery is as robust as we can make it. We protected jobs in the first days and were now in the phase where we want to sure the recovery is dynamic and we create even more jobs, jobs of the future, life sciences, offshore wind, Green Investment in the united kingdom. We will get through it together but it will get through it together but it will be tough. Thank you for your time, nadhim zahawi, the minister for business and industry speaking to us this morning. We will bring you more details on this later, the royal mail is making 2000 Staff Members redundant in a restructure move and it needs to save £130 million after a big drop in profits to the end of march. More details on that later. Its one of those days and its been a while, where you kind of look to see what will happen in a match to determine what happens to another clubs fortunes. It happens at the end of the season, doesnt it . We are at the business end in this restart. Theres no way anyone would have thought 30 years ago when liverpool were last crowned champions that they would have to wait this long for the next title to come along. It was so long ago Margaret Thatcher was still Prime Minister, madonna with vogue was number one but finally tonight, the waiting will finally be over if Manchester City fail to beat chelsea at Stamford Bridge later. Liverpool themselves were on sparkling form last night, beating Crystal Palace 4 0. There were some cracking goals at anfield too, from Trent Alexander arnold and then fabinho. If city were to win tonight and postpone the inevitable, liverpool could then seal the title against city next week. So, will bossjurgen klopp be watching tonight . I watch the game because we play against city a week later so i have to watch it and especially against chelsea which we play as well to this game is a really important game to watch or plenty of reasons and whatever happens tomorrow night, we have no influence on it so im not too much interested, to be honest. Talking of long waits, its seven years since a Manchester United player scored a hat trick. But they got one last night, all the goals in the 3 0 win over Sheffield United scored by anthony martial. It increases uniteds hopes of a place in next seasons champions league. The rest of the nights premier League Results are on the bbc sport website. Adam peaty has criticised the governments decision not to allow Swimming Pools to reopen as part of the latest round of lockdown changes. Pu bs, restau ra nts and hairdressers can open in england from 4thjuly, but ministers say that indoor gyms and Leisure Centres will have to wait until at least the middle of next month. Peaty, whos an olympic breaststroke champion, says that decision doesnt make sense. There are rules in england that says with tests each year with various diseases and obviously being active, i would prevent that so its give or ta ke i would prevent that so its give or take but im very disappointed because i dont feel its like being appreciated. Explain, in a sense. No reopening just out of Swimming Pools or indeed Dance Studios although strictly is coming back. It seems ages ago or was itjust yesterday . Yesterday i was filming with my partner on strictly especial piece on saturday about the future of dance. It was just like on saturday about the future of dance. It wasjust like being back in the series. Katya was demonstrating to me how you can be taught dance with social distance, with two metre distancing so i was doing a lot of dancing yesterday on my own. Im sure that will lookjust as good. Probably not, but im sure it ok. The professional dancers are preparing to start rehearsing remotely at the end ofjuly but details of how many celebrities will take part and how theyll perform under social distancing rules are yet to be announced. Were joined now by former strictly professional kristina rihanoff. Good morning to you. How are you . How is not done for you . Spending some more time with the family. So its all right stop the new normal, how it might work. What do you think . How will it work in practice . Its going to be a shorter series which i think is very sensible to do that. It is very challenging with the both of us together because i think we have to work in groups of six. Very interesting obviously with the choreographers. With couples, in the choreographers. With couples, in the same household, they can do some solos and im sure they will work out with other professional dancers like that but we are going into september or possibly 0ctober like that but we are going into september or possibly october with the show so hopefully by then, the rules will change and social distancing will drop a little bit more. So will see those changes and some of us can get and the show that we so some of us can get and the show that we so desperately need, now more than ever, strictly is one of those shows that everybody needs. certainly does bring the glamour. What is the best dance than to kind of launch with if social distancing is in place . What type of dance . The charleston would be great. There are a lot of steps you can do side by side as well as kind of fred astaire and Ginger Rogers type of dancing because they are done side by side. There are great choreographers who work on strictly and they will figure it out. Im not saying its not going to be challenging but there are the best of the best working on the show and all the professionals work on the show and they can also put some ideas forward, how to make it work. Like i said, some of the things will be done remotely with the zoom choreography but at the same time, a slight change because with those dance forms and getting down to the normal life that we want. Dance forms and getting down to the normal life that we wantlj dance forms and getting down to the normal life that we want. I was thinking off the top of my head, line dancing. Its not ballroom dancing but line dancing, the clue is in the title. Socially distance line dancing . Its designed. What do you think . I think you guys have to really go back and see what styles are suitable for something with social distancing. Anything i hold side by side. Even so also, along as people side by side work, charleston is appropriate. The foxtrot for example. But yes, line dancing as well. You can do that. There is plenty you can do. Dancing, exactly the same choreography. Im sure we will see some quiet clever choreography and jokes about ab couples doing something maybe with full ppe and facemasks. Always know me great choreography. Contained with good humour and good natured shows. Hopefully we will see the shows. Hopefully we will see the show back on screen and im sure everybody else feels the same. Remind us, what was your favourite . The dirty dance . Did you do it . No, but i just put the dirty dance . Did you do it . No, but ijust put it in everyones head. The chicken dance. You have an upside down house behind you. Not me but its reflective of the retail industry. They got everything here at the Trafford Centre. The upside down house, the point of that is you get a sort of loss of gravity, zero gravity sensation when youre in there. The cinemas, hundreds of restaurants and retailers all looking to try and get customers money so retailers all looking to try and get customers money so you might try and wonder why intu who run Shopping Centres like this around the country are struggling. Lets look at where they are, 17 locations, ray had in glasgow, big Shopping Centres in nottingham, lakeside and essex, all across the country, having millions of customers every year. 30 million visit the Trafford Centre annually but that hasnt helped them financially. 0ver recent years. We can have a look at the scale of the losses. The size of the debt they got. At the last count that lost £2 billion in the financial year. Over recent yea rs billion in the financial year. Over recent years that built up a lot of debts in the business, up to £5 billion there which they are trying to manage at the moment. They want to manage at the moment. They want to get money and from somewhere, customers spending money in the shops. Retailers paying the rent. It is estimated on the rent day, theyve been collected by big landlords. Whether they go next . Its crunch time the business. What is the conversation with the lenders going to go lie . Kate hardcastle willjoin me now. A familiar site for you. Why is it so big . They do everything they try to do everything, why cant they make enough money to keep going . Thats the way it would seem to most of us as consumers but there are two areas of concern. What is intu itself is an organisation . Its built up a debt but its properties to start with the value that its worth and thatis with the value that its worth and that is because of the changing face of retail and as weve mentioned, retailers themselves struggle not just this existing situation but the yea rs before just this existing situation but the years before that is the rise of on line has gone on so there is intus debt situation and finances that we have Properties Like this and what they can actually repurposed themselves as an opportunity, as a successful venture because Shopping Centres, the size of towns almost our dependence on big box retailers and those big box retailers are the very brands that weve heard struggling over recent years. With her they go on line saying they dont want to pay the same amount of rent and there arent a lot of consumers wanting to buy on line. When we see a retailer going to administration and the closing down signs go up, used to that. What happens if a Big Shopping Centre owner like intu goes into administration, realistically, could this kind of centre close . The doors need to be open and people need to be in there if there is any chance of its future or making money. There isa of its future or making money. There is a short term element where they keep the doors open, look at debt and the financial situation, work out how they have combined the future. Can they sell of that portfolio . The Bigger Picture medium to longer term is, actually these centres cant carry on to depend on retail. How can they become part of the community . How do they repurposed that space to dig doctors surgeries, nurseries, all different kind of reasons to visit because we cant see places like these just empty. Big changes needed. Kate, thank you. Today or tomorrow will get that update about how those conversations are going. Crucial to millions of customers. So many staff working in the doors throughout the Shopping Centres with others conversations go. And whether they are conversations go. And whether they a re successful. Conversations go. And whether they are successful. Sean, thank you so much. Such an important topic. Looking atjobs as well, we will update you in the next hour about royal mail. It is cutting jobs. Matt has all the weather details. Good morning. Well, sunny start here for much of the uk and take a look at the forecast, hot and humid day, almost uk wide. The heat even more extensive than it was yesterday, just take a look at some of the temperatures we expect thing. More widely into the 30s across parts of england and wales and we could see temperatures, getting close to 29 or 30 celsius. A bit cooler out in the far west and this is where we will see some heavy showers around. A few thunderstorms in Northern Ireland and western scotland. A bit misty towards the north east. The vast majority, another day of sunshine from dawn until dusk. There you go, confirmation again it will be a hot one. One word of caution. Eubi levels, just out stronger sunshine is, much higher across southern parts of englund and wales. Thunderstorms develop a bit more widely and through the night, they will rumble on up was part of the uk. Across northern and Western Areas tomorrow morning, a few thunderstorms through east anglia and the south east vary much it missed, of human start tomorrow with temperatures somewhere in the mid to high teens. 0r tomorrow. A few changes. Greater chance of thunderstorms, heavier ones around first thing but i think some of the most first thing but i think some of the m ost pote nt first thing but i think some of the most potent storms later in the day, parts of western scotland, Northern Ireland and north west england but still show as possible just about anywhere, turning cooler in the west, image towards the east, big changes taking place this weekend. More later. Good morning, and welcome to breakfast with Charlie Stayt and naga munchetty. 0ur headlines today warnings over safety on whats set to be the hottest day of the year. Uv rays could reach record levels. Exceptionally strong sunshine expected especially across southern parts of england and wales and to go with it some very humid air as well and temperatures more widely into the 30s. More on that later. Royal mail says it will cut 2000 jobs as it deals with the impact of covid 19. More details shortly. Glastonbury should have been celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend. John maguire is therefore for us live this morning to find out what is happening on site. The wait is almost over for liverpool. Theyll win their First League Title in 30 years tonight if Manchester City drop points in their game at chelsea. Its thursday 25th june. Our top story. Some parts of the uk could see temperatures as high as 32 or 33 degrees celsius later, which would make it the hottest day of the year so far. People cooling off any way they can, but that can be dangerous, too. A man has died after getting into difficulty in the river thames in berkshire. Today is expected to be even warmer and there are warnings for people to take care notjust outdoors but inside, too. Some people are particularly vulnerable this year, and theyre people who may be shielding or staying indoors, or people isolated and staying indoors, because theyre either concerned about infection or theyve just had an infection with covid, so we just want to make sure that everyone looks out for people who are isolated in the heat. Sometimes homes can get very hot, so just to ensure that people dont get overheated. Uv levels are expected to be unusually high, meaning a greater risk of sunburn. Pressure is growing on the housing secretary robertjenrick to resign, after he released emails and texts relating to his decision to grant planning permission to a one billion pound Housing Development in east london. Mrjenrick gave the green light for the project injanuary, just one day before a new local levy came into force. Two weeks after the decision, the developer, Richard Desmond, donated £12,000 to the conservative party. Lets get some more detailfrom our Political Correspondent chris mason. Good Political Correspondent chris mason. Morning. We earlier good morning. We spoke to a minister earlier and brought this up with him. The question being, what has robertjenrick done wrong if anything . Good morning. He has a very rich businessman, Richard Desmond, former owner of the daily express wanting to build a load of flats in east london, a crowded and poor part of east london in Tower Hamlets and you have the housing secretary who has the final decision resting on his desk as to whether it goes on or not. He met a tory fundraiser, they exchanged text m essa g es fundraiser, they exchanged Text Messages and permission is granted by robertjenrick against the advice of his department and the local authority, just before this tax that would have whacked mr desmond for tens of millions of pounds which would have kicked in locally. Then there is a decision from mrjenn rick that this looks like it is biased, so he will rescind permission for this planning to go ahead and its now in the hands of another minister and mrjenrick now acknowledges that the way he communicated through this was not great but he believes in the idea of building more houses. The business minister on breakfast in the last half hour offering this defence of his colleague. As he quite rightly said, with the benefit of hindsight, he might have dealt with the matter differently, but he did the right thing. The matter will now be decided by a different minister, and thatis decided by a different minister, and that is the right way to go about this. Robert wanted to get more housing built and, by the way, hes not the first secretary of state to look at the balance between viability of development. The labour mayor of london would have done the same on lots of developments where you look at how much social housing, Affordable Housing you can get into Affordable Housing you can get into a scheme, versus whether it is deliverable. So the questions continue to swirl around mrjenrick. Labour pushing for more clarity as they think these discrepancies between what he said in the last couple of weeks versus what was revealed in these texts and documents last night. He does though have the support of downing street. Borisjohnson have the support of downing street. Boris johnson saying have the support of downing street. Borisjohnson saying that have the support of downing street. Boris johnson saying that the have the support of downing street. Borisjohnson saying that the matter is closed. Well, ok, no doubt this will be discussed further and further on. Are there things to talk about . Updated guidance is due to be released about schools in england what more have we learned this morning . We are going to get confirmation next week from gavin williamson, this education secretary about how it will work in september as we heard from the government that they wa nt heard from the government that they want all pupils in all year groups and all classes going back to School Pretty much as normal as far as attendance is concerned from september. We have begun to hear how its going to happen in wales and in scotla nd its going to happen in wales and in scotland and Northern Ireland as well. The decision in england, to be confirmed next week, but it looks like what it will be, speaking to those involved in the discussions, that you will have class or year group bubbles, in other words there wont be a need for pupils to keep a metre or two metres apart within school, instead they will be within bubbles in each class allowing, so the theory goes, education to return to near normality. Chris, thanks very much for taking us through that. Royal mail has announced it is to cut around 2,000 managementjobs. Sean has more details. The announcement just coming the announcementjust coming in the last half hour. Tell us what you know. Yes, not surprisingly, royal mailare know. Yes, not surprisingly, royal mail are saying this morning that the impact of covid 19 has meant they are having to cut costs quicker than they previously thought. They say this morning that 2000 jobs will be going in the consultation will start today. Half of Senior Leaders will be included in that, so thats 2000 managementjobs, will be included in that, so thats 2000 management jobs, so will be included in that, so thats 2000 managementjobs, so we are not talking about the postal workers that many of us would see day to day in our lives. The chief executive of royal mail says this morning that the business as a whole has not adapted as quickly as it should have donein adapted as quickly as it should have done in the uk over recent years anyway, falling letter volumes and increasing parcel problems have been a problem for royal mail and that has been exacerbated by coronavirus, so even has been exacerbated by coronavirus, so even if letters and parcels and they are going to start a consultation on that today. Its the latest in a long line of businesses, almost every week, we are talking about a new big Company Announcing majorjob cuts from British Airways, gbp, rolls royce, jr, it is getting into the hundreds of thousands when you start to toss up the job losses and royal mail are the latest to save and royal mail are the latest to save 2000 jobs will be going. For the moment, thank you. Leading academics have raised concerns about the rapid roll out of covid 19 Antibody Testing for nhs and care staff in england. The blood test can identify whether a person has had the virus but scientists warn this doesnt mean someone has developed immunity. In a letter to the british medical journal, clinicians also raise concerns about the reliability of the tests and the costs involved. It was officially the hottest day of the year yesterday and record breaking temperatures are expected again today. A Level Three Health alert has been set for parts of england because of the heat and there are fears over very high uv levels. Lets find out more with matt. We are familiar with the idea of heatin we are familiar with the idea of heat in itself and the risks associated with that, but also uv levels particularly. Tell us more. Exactly. Uv levels effectively is the strength of sunshine, ultraviolet light coming from the sun and is measured on a scale from one up to 12, the higher the number, the quicker damage can be done to your skin. Here in the uk, normally during the summer we see uv levels peak at six or seven, but today we could get as high as nine across southern parts of england and wales, so southern parts of england and wales, so exceptionally high, potentially record breaking uv levels across southern parts of the country, so if youre spending any time in the sunshine make sure you take the necessary protections from the uv. Why is the uv so high . A number of factors. We saw exceptional depletion of the ozone layer in the Northern Hemisphere during the winter and spring and that was caused by natural weather patterns but adding to that we are near the summer solstice and the sun is high in the sky in the uk at the moment and we have an area of High Pressure keeping the sky is clear, so the sun is uninterrupted and of course, following lockdown, we have seen lower pollution levels and pollution tends to scatter the uv light so it all comes together to give the highest uv levels we have probably ever seen highest uv levels we have probably ever seen in the uk. More on that later. We are warned. Thank you very much. Of course lots of us will be heading to the beach today to enjoy the weather. Fiona lamdin is on the seafront in Weston Super Mare. It looks very blue, which im going to assume is the technical issues rather than it being a very blue day, but its a glorious day today. Good morning. Good morning. I can already feel myself burning. The tide is slowly coming in and you can see the pier behind me, and that is closed, but yesterday, despite being close, it was absolutely packed here. Just coming over to mike from the rnli. Are you telling people in the rnli. Are you telling people in the pandemic to stay away from the beach . To stay away from watercress might we not asking them to stay away from the beach, that would be crazy but they wont do that. What is your advice . If theyre going to come to the beach i would ask them not to use inflatables on the beach andl not to use inflatables on the beach and i would ask them to look after each other. If they are not on a life guarding the beach, watch each other and dont allow yourselves to swim on your own but our recommended choice would be to go to a lifeguard in the beach. We will have guards around the coast and you can go to the website to find out where the nearest beach that has a lifeguard is. That is the place you should be going to be safe. If you fall in . Try and avoid the instinct to thrash about. If you can put your head back, lie back in the water and float and calm your breathing and allow your body to adapt, you have a greater chance of survival. Just quickly tell us, because coronavirus affects all of us in different ways, how is it affecting the rnli . At Weston Super Mare weve operated two teams, splitting the volunteers down the middle and they operate 24 hours on, 24 hours off, we didnt want one of the guys to get infected and infect everybody so if somebody does get sick we dont pass it to the whole team and we can maintain the service. Brilliant, and of course we have masks and gloves for those who are treating. Absolutely, protects the people and the casualties. Mike, thanks forjoining us. They expect it to be at least 30 degrees today. You can see a keep fit class going on behind me. They will definitely wa nt on behind me. They will definitely want a swim after that. Sounds very refreshing. Thanks very much. This time next week hotels and caravan sites in england will be preparing to throw their doors open to tourists again, but what can you expect if you live in the rest of the uk . From tomorrow, campsites and caravan parks in Northern Ireland will begin to open, but people wanting to use hotels, hostels and b bs will have to wait untiljuly 3rd. In wales, the government says an official decision on reopening the Tourism Sector will be made onjuly 9th, but it says people can start booking holidays in self contained accommodation from july 13th onwards. Hotels and Tourist Accommodation in scotland is set to reopen from july 15th, as long as operators can abide by Safety Measures. Were joined now by alex gray who owns a holiday cottage in the Peak District and also by paul hobson who operates whitby coastal cruises. Good morning to you both. I must say, it looks absolutely stunning where both of you are and i dont know where id rather be, id want half a day and each. Alex, you have three cottages in the Peak District and up untilthe three cottages in the Peak District and up until the announcement i suppose you didnt know when, if, you could still be renting these out. I imagine you have many regular customers as well. Yeah, we do. We we re customers as well. Yeah, we do. We were surprised and shocked but it was expected when lockdown happened that we had to close, but it was really sad as well because we had all these people booked in and we do lots of trading in march, april, may, june, and that was all gone, plus when it looked like summer was uncertain as well, it was all those bala nces uncertain as well, it was all those balances were were expecting that we re balances were were expecting that were gone and all of the gas were uncertain about what to do as well. Its been tough. All of the guests its been tough. All of the gu ests we re its been tough. All of the guests were uncertain. Now you know you can open up, what will change . What will be different for your regular customers who know the cottages and have been there more than one year in a row . What will be different for them in terms of hygiene, in terms of social distancing, in terms of your prep and what they can expect service wise . We have not been sitting around doing nothing while we wait for the announcement, weve been really busy, going on cleaning courses and taking advice from the government. Weve been doing lots of seminars on the web with the local tourist board, so we have been training to make sure we know exactly how to make it safe and clea n exactly how to make it safe and clean in our cottages, so our customers can expect that we will ask them to arrive a little bit later, leave a little bit earlier so we have more time to prepare the cottages and make them really safe and clean. Weve got lots of new cleaning, preparation and cleaning equipment, things like steam clea ners equipment, things like steam cleaners for soft furnishings, and something called virus idle spray so we can make sure the surfaces are disinfected and super clean. Weve also taken out things like nonessential items like books and games, so nonessential items like books and games, so they are not used by successive guests. So everything is really clea n successive guests. So everything is really clean and safe. Lets have a chat with paul. Paul, set the scene. Im guessing from what i am seeing and it looks stunning, you are on one of your boats, one of the ones you would normally be operating. Yes, we are in whitby harbour. Looks absolutely beautiful. Compare and contrast. What would you normally be doing in normal business, what would it be like at this time of year . We would normally be sending out the boats this time of day, being very busy. So many, many people would be going on cruises with you. So as and when you can start operating, how can you operate . We have had no guidance of the government or anybody about how we open and how we can operate or what numbers. It was brought up in parliament two days ago and they said they would give us some guidance, and we are still awaiting that, all the passenger boats around the country are in the same position. So have you been given any. You have been given dates about when you ask aloud to start operating but not the details about how you can go around doing that . No, we havent been given an official start date yet. We are hoping for the 4th ofjuly but theres been nothing printed on the government website as it stands at the moment, but tourist boards have to remain closed. What is the reasoning you have been given . Is it because according to the guidelines it cannot be physically possible to socially distance on a cruise boat . I dont understand why we are shocked. We have a license for 100 passengers and we could restrict it to 20 or 25, keep everybody two metres apart, even though its been reduced to a metre now. There is no reason. We could get ppe and everything. Theres no reason why we cannot open. We are just waiting for official government advice to say we can. Just to be clear, people understanding the dilemma you are in, you are confident that you could operate safely and respects the distances and operate some of your boats . We could, yes, definitely. We could operate safely. It is a real contrast in fortunes with our to guess. I will say thank you. All in whitby, guess. I will say thank you. All in whitby, paul in whitby, good luck. Youre obviously waiting to get your business up and running, good luck with that, and alex, in the Peak District, congratulations, because that is how it feels and i know you are happy as well and good luck, but such a contrast in the tourist industry to see paul absolutely devastated their and without any clear idea of what he can do to keep his business going. And it is a clear illustration about a lot of the confusion between Different Industries where, in theory, they think we could do what is required of us but we havent got the detail, so thanks for that, im sure we will do more in the next few weeks on that as people plan their holidays. I do want to interview paul when they open up because he will be smiling, hopefully. Away from staycations, many of us are still hoping to travel abroad this summer. The independents travel editor, simon calderjoins us now. Simon, how likely is it looking . Some lovely blue skies here and some people think why not stay at home, but as we all know, plenty of people wa nt to but as we all know, plenty of people want to go away. What indications are you getting as to how that might come about in practice . Well, bear in mind that the Foreign Office for the last three months has warned against all but essential travel anywhere abroad and that stays in place and that means that your travel insurance would be void if you decided to travel. Add to that the fact that since the 8th ofjune anybody coming back to the uk from a holiday has had to self isolate at home for two weeks and there is not much appetite for outbound travel. I saw a plane here 20 minutes ago, you should have been here. |j saw a plane here 20 minutes ago, you should have been here. I tell you, simon, lots of people now are seeing the rules and seeing all this talk aboutair the rules and seeing all this talk about air bridges and quarantine not being needed if you go somewhere like spain. Flights are being booked up, arent they . Well, look, some of them are. Jet2 had to cancel tens of thousands of holiday saying that the Foreign Office was restricting travel and they just Foreign Office was restricting travel and theyjust dont know. We are expecting may be today or over the weekend, definitely by monday, a list of countries which are covered by the so called travel corridors or air bridges, and these are basically no quarantine arrangement so you dont need to quarantine when you come back in. The latest leaks, and we have done this on the basis of lea ks we have done this on the basis of leaks rather we have done this on the basis of lea ks rather than a we have done this on the basis of leaks rather than a Firm Understanding is that france, italy, greece, spain and bermuda as well as gibraltar and belgium, austria and germany, plus the netherlands, will be included in the first list, possibly portugal but there has been a bit ofa possibly portugal but there has been a bit of a surge in lisbon. Nobody knows and the airlines, and ive just heard from a chief executive, he says the tension is unbelievable. They desperately want to start flying again but they have exactly no certainty about how, when and where. Simon, is it your impression, and im looking at some reports from the booking agency is saying that bookings for flights have gone up hugely. Is it your impression that quite a lot of people are saying that we think the quarantine rules are going to change, so we willjust go ahead and book something in the hope that by the time we actually go it will be ok when we come back. Yes, there is an aircraft taking off, British Airways i think, and it looks to me like a 787 disappearing. That was lucky. Exactly right. There are some people who are taking a bet because the fares at the moment are very often ludicrously low, so therefore the thinking is that as soon as we therefore the thinking is that as soon as we know where we can go and when, there will be a massive spike in demand and that will see prices go through the roof, but you will be taking a bet. At the moment the quarantine rules apply until next summer, so quarantine rules apply until next summer, so nobody knows and the Foreign Office says, well, dont go anywhere abroad. It is uncertain times, but certainly by monday we might know a little bit more than we do now. Simon, thank you very much. Have you been longing to visit your local pub during lockdown . Well, from 4th july, pubs and restaurants in england will be able to open again. However, in order to do so, therell be all sorts of new Safety Measures in place including the requirement to keep a record of customers for 21 days, which not everyone is happy about. I wouldnt be happy with them keeping my details. Im a little bit paranoid about giving my details to anybody, to be honest with you. Because i value my privacy. And all the data that is around, so, no, i wouldnt be happy with pubs, may be restau ra nts, wouldnt be happy with pubs, may be restaurants, local ones, that might be different, but not generally. Restaurants, local ones, that might be different, but not generallylj be different, but not generally. wouldnt be bothered about them taking my details at all. To be honest i think i do that, i go online, look at the menu, pre book just for peace of mind, so we are already in a bit of a culture of giving your details, so for me, its not any change and i kind of thing, what is the worst that can happen . I dont think they will ring me up 2am and prank on me. If pubs and restaurants have to keep my details, i think restaurants have to keep my details, ithinkl restaurants have to keep my details, i think i feel a bit vulnerable about that because you dont know what hands it will end up in the future. It wouldnt stop me going, but i might be hesitant. Someone else has got your details, you dont know who they are. It was just the owner, fair enough, but if employees have access to your details, its a bit off putting but i dont think i go that regularlyjust yet. Well, weve heard what some customers think but what about those running a pub . Werejoined now by samantha gibbs, landlady of the major which is based in greater manchester. Good morning to you. Tell us about the major, first of all. We are based in ramsbottom, on the corner of bury and very much a traditional local pub and we utilised we are well utilised by the locals and Everybody Knows everybody in the pub. Great atmosphere. Really nice pub. Great atmosphere. Really nice pub to run. Tell us how it works for you. You hear the news, and presumably very welcome, that you can reopen and then you go, how does it work in practice . Are you clear about how you can run your pub under the restrictions and guidelines you have been given . Yeah, i mean, im still working my way through the 43 page document issued. Its quite self explanatory, to be honest. Theres nothing in there that overly concerns me, but you know, massive changes on how you will use the pub moving forward. It will look very different. Describe it for us. Are people going to be able to come to the bar . Do they have to stay at their table . Will it be effectively waiting staff . How do you see it working . We are going to operate a one way system round the pub as we are one way system round the pub as we a re fortu nate one way system round the pub as we are fortunate enough to have two doors on the entrance, so it will be one way round the pub and you will be greeted on the door when you come in and forthe be greeted on the door when you come in and for the foreseeable future until we get further guidelines, and we are trying to operate a table booking system, so we know who is coming in and when and we can stagger the times and you will then be taken or given your table number to go to and we are not entirely sure at the moment how it will work, but we hope to collect your data at your table and take your order and haveit your table and take your order and have it delivered to the table. Some answer, i am sure have it delivered to the table. Some answer, i am sure you are a very capable landlady some month. It has been suggested that when people are in the pub, have a few drinks, they will naturally start to forget about things like social distancing and that might be with the people they are with or will to your staff, and that is presumably a concern or with your staff. From the start point of view, they will very much stay behind the bar. They are not going to be out front because we feel as owners of that is our responsibility, to be out there. So we hope to minimise anything like that, but yes, everybody in this pub, and it will be the same in pubs up pub, and it will be the same in pubs up and down the country, Everybody Knows everybody in this pub and everybody gets on extremely well, and without doubt once people have had a few drinks it will be difficult to keep the guidance for social distancing in place. Well, we wish you luck and we look forward to that opening day. Im sure it will bea that opening day. Im sure it will be a good occasion for you, notwithstanding all the practical difficulties. Thanks for chatting to us. Now lets get the weather with matt. But this is a hint of what might perhaps happen. Is thatjohn maguire . Maybe . It is. He is at glastonbury because it is the 50th, would have been the 50th celebration this weekend, with sunny weather. Look at the views over there. No muddy boots this time round. Thats not happening anyway. So everyone will just have not happening anyway. So everyone willjust have to imagine what it would be like. Matt has been enjoying those images this morning. What a morning it has been and we are showing the picture, this is Central London this morning. It is a beautiful morning, but it comes with a warning. It certainly does. Blue skies in glastonbury and london but with it some very strong glastonbury and london but with it some very strong sunshine today, some very strong sunshine today, some of the strongest sunshine ever recorded in the uk, so that will mean it will take less Time Outdoors before the uv levels start to do damage to our skin. If you were supposed to be going to glastonbury today, one crumb of comfort, things sent to turn wetter this weekend so it wont be sunshine all the way but certainly the forecast today across the country is for another hot and humid one and for many it should be hotter than yesterday. After seeing temperatures no lower than 20 degrees overnight, here is what we expect this afternoon, more widely in the 30s across england and wales and a high of around 33 once again and a high of around 33 once again and parts of scotland as well, around the glasgow and aviemore levels, they could get above the 30 degrees mark as well. Lots of strong sunshine and a few exceptions. A few thunderstorms across Western Areas and already some in Northern Ireland and already some in Northern Ireland and the west of scotland so far today and a few more will break out in the west later on. It might stay misty around the coasts in north east scotland but the most sunshine all the way through into the afternoon and then confirmation that it will be a very hot day. To go with the strong sunshine levels, very high uv levels, you rarely see that on the charts in the uk for the southern counties of england and wales but by the end of the day with the heat and humidity around, you will see thunderstorms crashing around and it will be hit and miss with many places dry but where we see them they will be torrential and some will rumble into the night and become a little more extensive across parts of the uk and it will be another muggy and humid night with temperatures not dropping below the high teens for a fair few of you. As we go into tomorrow, it will bea you. As we go into tomorrow, it will be a slightly different story that whilst we will see sunshine in most places, a greater chance of thunderstorms around and we cant promise you a thunderstorm at any one particular area and most likely it will be west of scotland, Northern Ireland and north west england, feeling fresher later in the day in the west but still up to 30 degrees across parts of east anglia, but this weekend, big changes as we start to see low pressure in the north west bringing atla ntic pressure in the north west bringing atlantic air, dropping the temperature and we will all see outbreaks of rain at times, so if its too hot at the moment things will turn cooler. More on that tomorrow morning. How hot does it feel at this time of the morning on the roof . Last night was sweltering. It was 20 degrees as a minimum in some southern counties of england. But feeling hot here right now. Only going to get hotter. Tell me, you have your shorts in your bag, dont you . Did you see the cctv cameras as i came in your bag, dont you . Did you see the cctv cameras as i came in i have an eye on you all the time. Enjoy the rest of your day, hopefully, stay safe, of course. See you tomorrow. See you tomorrow matt, thank you. The time is 8 32am. Hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and naga munchetty. Lots of news to bring you this morning. Housing secretary, robertjenrick, is facing pressure to resign after he released emails and texts relating to his decision to grant planning permission to a one billion pound Housing Development in east london. Mrjenricks decision to approve the scheme, which was later rescinded, came the day before a local infrastructure levy would have added tens of millions of pounds to the cost of the project. The developer, Richard Desmond, then donated £12,000 to the conservative party. Both men have denied breaking any rules. Some breaking news to bring you this morning and the metropolitan police say they are continuing to deal with a large public disorder event which began overnight in south london. Unverified images on social media appear to show police cars and other emergency vehicles being damaged by crowds in brixton. Our correspondent sean dilley is in our london newsroom, sean, what more do we know . I certainly will. Elise attended what they called an unlicensed music event, a party in the overton road area. The Police Helicopter was seen going overhead, there were crowds gathering. And as you say, weve seen some gathering. And as you say, weve seen some unconfirmed footage being posted on social media and our colleagues at bbc london obviously have been speaking to some of those people through the night, showing people through the night, showing people apparently jumping on people through the night, showing people apparentlyjumping on police cars, damaging vehicles. The metropolitan police have yet to confirm any damage to their vehicles and any arrests that had been made for public order or any other offences. We await those details and we will bring them to you as soon as we will bring them to you as soon as we have them. Thank you. Its 8 34am. Weve been talking about the sunshine, how glorious it is, showing you some beautiful views of glastonbury, the reason being the festival was supposed to be celebrating its 50th anniversary live from where the plant this weekend. Live from worthy farm. Glastonbury festival was supposed to be celebrating its 50th anniversary live from worthy farm this weekend, with performances from the likes of sir Paul Mccartney and taylor swift. Those plans have been shelved due to the coronavirus pandemic, but glasto lovers have found alternative ways to celebrate, from the safety and comfort of their own homes, as our entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson reports. And we rely on each other, uh huh. Revolutionaries wait for my head on. Glastonbury. The music. The mayhem, the mud. The 50th anniversary was supposed to be getting under way right now. Instead, this is the scene from in front of the pyramid stage no crowds, just cows. It all started in 1970. Dairy farmer michael eavis, inspired by the bath blues festival, decided to put on his own event. Only 2,000 people turned up, leaving him in debt. I wouldnt say a disaster, but it hasnt been as good as id hoped. 50 years later and once again trouble on the farm, the whole festival cancelled because of covid. The buildup to the 50th and then having to pull it was quite gutting, but, you know, all of our energy is going into next year now, so were all about 2021, were all about making that a double celebration. And actually 50 years is great, but the first year back after what weve been through this year will be, like, the most, like, Amazing Party i think and we all need it. More than 200,000 people would have been on the site this weekend, including mumford sons. They headlined in 2013 and were going to make an unannounced appearance. It would sort of be all right if it was anything other than glastonbury, but glastonbury for us, especially as a band, we always set our hearts on it. You know, its the highlight its the best festival in the world. Theres just a feeling, i think theres a magic in the air, lots of people talk about it, that pyramid stage, the amphitheatre is just magic and theres a deep, deep magic to it. So will you be back next year . I hope so, i hope so. I mean, i think it will be a turbocharged, glasto next year, wont it . Bbc sound of winner celeste made her glastonbury debut last year and was booked to return. Glastonbury, like, especially for me as a new artist, its the opportunity to play amongst, like, some of the biggest people in the world, and not only do you get to, like, go as a performer but you get to go as, like, a punter as well and see all these Amazing Things you dont get to see in one weekend anywhere else. How will you be spending the weekend instead . Its my friends birthday, so i mightjust be out in the park or something. To help fill the glastonbury gap, all weekend the bbc are rerunning classic performances. Obviously very disappointed to not be there, but the great news is were still celebrating the 50th anniversary of this festival, because we can, because we have all this amazing access to all these brilliant performances from previous years, it encourages us to, you know, get your festoon lights out, get your bunting out, open the doors and windows and try to recreate glastonbury in your own environment. Thats what identical twins ned and maff plan to do. They first went in the 70s, and as the egg, performed at every glastonbury since 1995. As a substitute for not going this year, theyve made an animation explaining their love for the festival. Helps us feel like humans connecting to each other, it helps us understand what people find important about life and happiness and reminds us of the best parts of ourselves, and thats why we go. Weve gone as kids. 0ur dad went to the first one. It feels like home. Theres an extra cruelty about glastonbury not happening this weekend, the weather forecast. There would have been glorious sun right through. Colin paterson, bbc news. No festival, but is the same. Here is the scene. Breakfasts john maguire is on glastonbury tor for us this morning. And what a festival, and what site you have this morning, john. Its green and glorious, around five miles away from worthy farm, the side of the festival, which gets transformed into a mini city, we are right on top of glastonbury tor, if you know this area, you know the festival, this seems to dominate the countryside, 500 feet above sea level. A very unusual year. We know glastonbury has fallow years, every five years or so to allow the farm its based on to recover but this is an enforced absence for everybody and very tough for businesses, for whom this weekend is a real cash cow. Everything is on a huge scale at glastonbury. By now, darren olivers 600 caravans should be on site to help accommodate the thousands of workers at the festival. Theres been many infamous wet years but for darren, every major event for the whole of 2020 is a total washout. The annual turnover of what weve lost is probably plus of 350,000 for the year, with all the events that have cancelled, which are all the events, there isnt any that have gone ahead or look like they will be going ahead. Its the same story for pete tiffen. Just listen to the events hes had cancelled. Badminton trials, chelsea flower show, and then injune, the Music Festivals kick in so its obviously glastonbury but probably another blue dot, green man, end of the road, et cetera, et cetera. Peters been selling food at the festival for three decades. His weekend should look like this but instead of being at worthy farm, his food units are in storage at a friends farm. No events means no income. 0ur revenue, we now know, until next may is zero, so the whole industry has got similar problems, really. Everybody is wondering where that influx will come from, and whether things are going to be structured, and also whether the festivals will even happen next year because theres a lot of unknowns. Glastonbury goers are, though, nothing if not resourceful. Determined not to miss out, sarah and john have set up glasthomebury festival online and have more than 370,000 followers, numbers to impress even michael eavis. We made festival bunting for people to make and print and colour in for the kids, and its been really nice, because people have been sharing the stuff theyve been up to and obviously the bbc are running such a fantastic thing as well along with glastonbury official. Its just really nice. I think its really good for everybody to have this kind of mass participation event, really. They are encouraging people to join in activities at home, set up a tent and watch it on tv, all to raise money for charities. So its giving people Something Really Nice to look forward to because obviously no one can go to the festival, no one can go on holiday, but everybody can do this. Clean toilets. We can all have a shower in the morning. Sleep in your own bed if you so choose, which is really welcome. Shower every day theres lots of positives to it. No mud, no wellies, no lost tent. But glastonbury 2020 will never be forgotten, and you can say you were there, wherever you are. Normally the gates would have opened to the festival yesterday and the music would start tomorrow, this pa rt music would start tomorrow, this part of the world gets absolutely bombarded by young people, all sorts of people, travelling from around the country to come to the festival. Lets say good morning and talk to andy, andy bennett from bbc somerset, radio presenter. You been to the festival for years and years. You used to fallow years but there is strange. It is strange. Every five years they have a fallow year. I think the last was 2018 and before that it was 2012, to coincide with the olympics. But, when you have an e nforced the olympics. But, when you have an enforced one, it is tricky. I work for the Carnival Club in the local area and theres lots of cricket clubs and rugby clubs, so many little voluntary groups in the somerset area that make so much money from it and they werent expecting it. We were getting into for a breach in march, thinking we will be all right, we have glastonbury coming up and when you have a fallow year, you can plan, you can think we have to put money aside, we will be all right. But this year, its, when is the money coming from, weve done so many interviews on radio this year, with by interviews on radio this year, with rugby clubs, cricket teams, the womens institute, primary schools, so womens institute, primary schools, so many groups make their money in a little five miles that year way. It tells you how far the festival reaches out. Great causes like 0xfam, wateraid. But tell us briefly before we hand back to the studio, you open the festival once, didnt you . I did, i am not a singer, i am no stevie wonder, i was a welder, when i had a normaljob, before i worked the bbc, i was a builder on pyramid stage, the first act was going on about 11am, they gave me a call at 9 30am, something has broken, nothing major, but can you weld it. Iwalked broken, nothing major, but can you weld it. I walked on with my welder, a lot of people thought what is this guy doing, they thought it was part of the act i did my bit of welding. I had of the act i did my bit of welding. Ihada of the act i did my bit of welding. I had a camera phone, that was the days when camera phones had half a megapixel, i havent got a photo of megapixel, i havent got a photo of me on the stage that is any good it was wonderful, ive opened glastonbury, 2010, me and my welder get the t shirt printed up, thank you so much, proper andy warhol moment, famous for 15 minutes, you got to open the festival on the pyramid stage at least once in your life, thats what happens when you get a properjob, life, thats what happens when you geta properjob, not life, thats what happens when you get a properjob, not working with the bbc john, do not give away all our secrets, i thought we were getting away from it. You enjoy yourself, sitting on the grass, be careful, what a story to say you have opened up glastonbury. I can imagine it, it looked so impressive. That is a story, i am not doubting it for a second stop thats a story thatis it for a second stop thats a story that is going to get embellished as the years go by, isnt it . It will go from i went on stage, it was a moment, the best thing that happened at glastonbury that year, that is where i would go with it. at glastonbury that year, that is where i would go with it. I would have added a second part, i would say i opened glastonbury in 2010 with my welder. Got to love those moments. Do you know who has stories like this . Mike bushell. We are not going to talk about those. You have some fantastic stories, there may be a fantastic story later this evening . For one team, maybe . Yes, but a strange night ahead. It could be a strange night ahead for liverpool fans. Youve waited 30 years for a league title, but your team arent actually playing this evening and you cant celebrate in the normal way with lots of fans with all the action behind closed doors. Liverpool will be premier League Champions, if Manchester City fail to beat chelsea at Stamford Bridge later. Liverpool did what they needed to last night and were on sparkling form beating Crystal Palace 4 0. Jurgen klopp says hell be watching the telly tonight to see if man city do indeed drop points, otherwise they could also win it at city next week. Whatever it happens, its bound to be so emotional for liverpool fans and breakfasts Jayne Mccubbin has been to merseyside to find out what it all means, to those life long supporters. Commentator the championship winner for the eighth time a fantastic record. After 30 years of waiting, liverpool is on the brink of title glory. And the city has not one but two anthems to choose from. Meet jamie webster. Weve conquered all of europe. An electrician until this song took off and took him around the world. How crazy has yourjourney been, and your teams journey been, in recent years . Unbelievable for me. For me, the last 18 months to two years has been ridiculous. And i think sincejurgen klopps took over at liverpool, its been a progressive ride really where we keep Getting Better and better. Fans sing. If you say to me when i first played it that song was going to take you round the world and youd be a full time singer songwriter, musician, i would have told you where to go probably, i wouldnt have believed it. Ive just got liverpool fc and the fans to thank. And what about those fans . Come on, you reds this is emily diehard red. Shes done this before youve gone to town . I always go to town. Laughter. Every big game gets the emily treatment, but this year it means more because this year shes doing it for dave. This is for my poor dave, who i lost on the 29th ofjuly last year, and it was great pains because we were robbed of one point last year and he never got to see this. Daves dying wish had been to see liverpool take the title. Heres hoping for dave. What do you mean heres hoping . You have to believe. All supporters believe. Come on, you reds and they really do believe that this is their moment. But in the middle of a pandemic, oh, what a moment there will be no fans, no anfield roar, no victory parade. Come on, you red men meet Frank Cottrell boyce, another diehard red. He knows all about the importance of coming together in joy and celebration because hes the man who helped create londons 2012 0lympic opening ceremony. If you really want to know the value of something, you lose it for a while, the hug, the being able to pop in, the being able to be spontaneous we really know now how much those Little Things mean to us because theyve been absent, and to be absent from this after waiting for more than half of my life feels grim, and it really does feel grim. Fans sing youll never walk alone. Will it diminish the moment for you . We have to find a way for that not to diminish the moment, because we also know that these moments are really precious. Im sure that liverpool fans are going to do this. Were going to find a way to make it amazing and to say that. Though we have to be apart, but we will not walk alone. Thats exactly whatjimmy brian and john are planning. Born in 1990, the year dalglish last raised the trophy, three pals from across the uk drawn to study in liverpool to follow the club of their dreams. So, for you guys born 30 years ago, what does this moment mean to you . We wanted to try and get the boys down so we could celebrate in town, but obviously with how things are, its going to be a little bit different. Were going to just have to put the champage on ice. Ive waited 30 years, ive lost my hair. Im happy to wait another few weeks before we get that in the bag. Liverpool could win tonight without setting foot on a pitch. Whos excited . And if they do, the celebrations which will follow will be like none that have gone before. Its going to be really weird without any fans there but i think were all going to get behind everyone and keep going. We are going to be watching at home with granddad. Ill be watching it along with the rest of the brian kop, so well be doing it together. In homes, on sofas, in video calls around the world, red fans will still find a way. And if not tonight, surely its a case of when, not if. Imagine all the cheering, that emotion from fans of chelsea scored tonight. Mike, thank you. We are going to talk about driving test, you have obviously passed years . Well done. What about you . I did first time as well, its not like it used to be. Passing your driving test is an experience most of us will never forget, as it marks the start of a new level of independence. Thousands of learners are still waiting for the green light to get behind the wheel though, after tests and lessons were postponed during lockdown. Breakfasts tim muffett has been speaking to instructors about the challenges of teaching people to drive from a social distance. Over the past 12 years, Chris Bensted has helped hundreds of people pass their driving test. Now hes being driven to despair. I never knew it could be this bad, and werejust not hearing anything, so what we need is we need information, we need some kind of guidance so we can plan. There are more than 40,000 approved driving instructors in the uk, the vast majority are self employed. Lessons and tests have been stopped. So too have incomes. What should have been done better do you think . If we knew where we were, instructors could have gone out and found otherjobs and at the moment we cant do that, and most instructors have been hanging on. I dont think it can get much worse than this, were just given nothing and i think we will lose many good driving instructors. Joe is 19 and has cerebral palsy. Lessons in his adapted car are banned, he cant book a test. Living in a rural area, the public transport is not accessible, and both my parents work so this means until i pass my test, and i cant have driving lessons to pass my test, i will not be able to get out and have a sense of independence. My future, my career, is on hold and its quite scary and daunting and my confidence has gone quite downhill. Throughout the pandemic, driving instructors have been able to give lessons to key workers providing theyve already got a test booked, but for some thats raised even more questions is it ever safe to give a driving lesson or not . Well do whatever we feel we can with regard to sanitising and wearing masks, but even some of the Insurance Companies have questioned the safety of wearing a mask to be able to communicate especially when there is background noise. Sasha works in a care home. As a key worker she was offered a driving test, but couldnt get to it. The only centres that were offering it were london, birmingham and i think it was manchester, so you have to get to it. I dont obviously drive, we dont have a car in my household, so its, like, public transport is the only choice but we are told only go via public transport if you really need to. Im currently a half an hour walk from my workplace but as a drive, its probably, like, five minutes and to make it easier. I could probably take more earlys to drive because its only a couple of minutes up the road. The driving Vehicle Standards Agency oversees tests and tuition in england and wales. For now, instructors and learners are stuck waiting for the green light. Tim muffett, bbc news. Lots of industries and places trying to work out how they can operate on a safe plane. Lots of you on this hot day, thinking about if you can get into lovely cool pool. We can go to one of our correspondence now. How is it looking. Im very tempted to do how is it looking. Im very tempted todoa how is it looking. Im very tempted to do a mike bushell and fold in here now, but no one will be going to these tools for a little while now, from the 4th ofjuly, pubs, cinemas, hairdressers will be able to open, that decision criticised by some, including Bridget Hanley from the local Swimming Club. Whats your thought on this . Massively disappointed, a massive cohort of children in ourclub disappointed, a massive cohort of children in our club and learn to swim and thats disappointing, the message is very confused for our young people. From the middle of may the government announcing outdoor swimming was safe, we feel it is safe and children are going to be tempted tojump into local safe and children are going to be tempted to jump into local rivers and reservoirs and i think thats a dangerous move. Thank you. In the peak of the Summer Season you get up to 800 people in this pool, including children from a local Swimming Club including roman and fallon and their mum to meltzer. How often do you go swimming . We went about three times a week. And in sundays two times a day. How disappointing is it that you can swim here . Its very disappointing. How about you, how disappointed are you . Im really liking the pool and im so disappointed its not opening. Rank it. Mark, how disappointing is it for you. So disappointed, the government has allowed james to reopen, outdoor gyms, outdoor legs, why cant an outdoor Swimming Pool like this be open . Well, the government says its working with the and Leisure Centre sectors for a phased and savoury opening. Back to you. Thank you so much. Lots of people waiting for more information on many industries. Thank you so much. I do so from us today. Weve been to glastonbury, weve been to the Peak District.
