Health secretary matt hancock and chief medical officer chris whitty, have also gone into isolation. On breakfast this morning well look at boots the chemist, trialling the first drive through Testing Centre and how it will work. There are still many questions about the virus coming in from you well talk to experts. Were out getting exercise while we can. How are walkers, joggers, and cyclists managing social distancing . First, andy moore has the latest. There the three men spearheading the nationalfight against there the three men spearheading the national fight against covid 19 and all three are now self isolating because they have or think they have the virus. Ive developed mild symptoms of the coronavirus, thats say a temperature and a persistent cough. The Prime Minister is in self quarantine in this flat above 11 downing street, but says he remains firmly in charge. Be in no doubt that i can continue, thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, to lead the national fight back against coronavirus. On wednesday, the Prime Minister was in the house of commons with his Health Minister sitting close by. Matt hancock has also now tested positive. Are be continuing to do everything they can to get our carers the support that they need and ill be doing that from here, but with no less gusto stop by the governments chief medical officer hasnt tested positive, by professor chris whitty said he had symptoms compatible with covid i9. Chris whitty said he had symptoms compatible with covid19. The nhs is already treating over 6000 coronavirus patients and thousands more are expected in the coming weeks as new hospitals like this one at the excel centre in london. The government says testing help reversals for the virus will start from three new labs this weekend. These tests will be trialed for people on the front line, starting immediately, with hundreds to take place by the end of the weekend, dramatically scaling up next week. Health workers have also been calling repeatedly for better personal Protection Equipment stop the government has changed its guidance to recommend the wearing of equipment for some high risk procedures that might generate infected droplets. But the Hospital Doctors Unions as it doesnt go far enough. They want all staff and patients in hospitals to have access to surgical masks, whether they have the virus not. In london many streets are the virus not. In london many streets a re nearly the virus not. In london many streets are nearly empty. The capital is dealing with more coronavirus cases than any other pa rt coronavirus cases than any other part of the country. The stay at home message is getting through, but will it be enough to stop the nhs being overwhelmed . Anymore, bbc news. Lets talk now to our political correspondent, tom barton. Tom, the coronavirus has now struck at the heart of government. Will this affect how the Prime Minister handles the situation . A lot of questions. My guess some of them are literally about the practicalities. How will they go about business give any circumstance . Thats absolutely right. Downing street are insisting that the Prime Minister can carry on leading the response to this crisis, but he is doing it from self isolation from his flat above number io isolation from his flat above number 10 downing street. He is still meeting people, but instead of doing it face to face is doing is using technology, videoconferencing and things like that. So last night the Prime Minister held a phone call with donald trump, a regular conversation, talking, of course, about the response to this crisis. On thursday night he held a call with companies who are willing to get involved in the effort to build more ventilators for the nhs. Now, as with her, because the Prime Minister isnt the senior figure with this illness. Matt hancock, the Health Secretary, has tested positive for the chief medical officer, chris whitty, and the head of Public Health england, duncan selby, self isolating. Ministers point out this shows, of course, that the disease doesnt discriminate, that anybody can get it. Big decisions they were still being taken, two new temporary Nightingale Hospitals are to be open in birmingham and manchester as well as that one in london, ministers are promising to wrap up testing for an staff. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has said he is going to write to every household in the country underlining that message to stay home, protect the nhs, and save lives. Tom, thank you very much. The number of people who have died in the uk after testing positive for the coronavirus has risen to 759. The new figure was announced yesterday, and is the biggest daily increase yet. There have now been more than 14,000 confirmed cases. President trump has announced 2 trillion of Financial Support for us citizens to help them through the coronavirus outbreak. There are now more than 100,000 positive cases in the country. Our north america correspondent peter bowes is in los angeles where the number of confirmed cases doubled overnight. Good to see you. We have seen the number of cases rows now we have seen the injection of money announced by the president , what for . Well, this is certainly a very welcome injection of money by the us government, congress agreed it, the president signed it, 2 trillion, as you say. And it is Immediate Release for relief for individuals. Americans will receive Something Like 1200 americans will receive Something Like i200 cheques. Probably in the next couple of weeks. There is also helpful businesses, money going to states and hospitals as well to pay for all of the badly needed equipment. It is still in short supply. Many hospitals around the country, facemasks, ventilators. It wont be the end of the story. It more like a lifeline than an economic stimulus. Most Economic Experts agree that at some point down the road, maybe in a few months time, when the situation is more under control, there will need to be Something Else to get the economy really up and running again. Peter, thanks very much. Peter bowes there for us in los angeles. As we near the end of the first week of lockdown here in the uk, more and more people are changing jobs and moving into areas where there is higher demand. Even with the governments scheme to protectjobs and businesses, recruiters say theyve seen a spike in applicants moving away from sectors such as hospitality, retail and travel. Our Business Correspondent Katie Prescott has the story. Alex browne a successful marquee business, until the ban on events forced him to mothball the company and follow his staff. Now his turning his hand food deliveries. We needed to find a solution for our ongoing costs. So with those diversified our fleet, ongoing costs. So with those diversified ourfleet, we have eight vehicles, and they re diversified ourfleet, we have eight vehicles, and theyre ready to, they are prepped and ready to deliver fruit and veg all over london. With shops and restaurant up and down the country closed and high streets emptied out, some businesses and workers are turning their hand to areas where there is great demand, for example working in supermarkets or in deliveries. Recruiters are reporting a spike in the number of Jobs Available in e commerce, supply chains, educational technology, and gaming. This scheme to help people switch roles free of charge was started by a recruitment consultant. Ive figured that there were a ton of people who had been displaced from hospitality who know how to operate a till, they know how to deliver great levels of customer service, and is noti million miles away from what happens in retail a lot of the time. You will see they are hiring into the thousands of people and they are doing it in a variety of ways, some using online tools, some, like the co op for example, you go in with a cv and effectively they will hire you on the spot. Serving up frozen ready meals is allowing this Events Company to keep on staff who would otherwise have been put on furlough. Its gone absolutely crazy in this time. We were going to start off as a Small Company and the three of us do it all together, now i have been able to move my staff from catering over to food so i can keep them busy and fulfil the orders that keep coming in. Adapting and changing to this newjobs coming in. Adapting and changing to this new jobs market coming in. Adapting and changing to this newjobs market is the name of the game. Katie prescott, bbc news. A man whod been due to take part in the London Marathon next month has run the 26. 2 miles in his back garden. The event has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but that hasnt put off 36 year old james page. He completed 873 laps of his lawn in sidcup in kent, before crossing a finish line made by his son from toilet roll. Congratulations, james page. When i first saw the story i assumed he had a gigantic garden. 873 lapse of his lawn in kent. This is the perfect finish. It was made from his son by toilet roll. They go. Thats how you do it. 873 times. I dont know how you would count that. Just have no idea. But good on him. Absolutely determined. Keep the thoughts coming in this morning. There is a lot of debate. We will be talking about cycling, walking, the etiquette around that, and albert blood doping. If you have different ways of getting your exercise in these different difficult times how people are coping. Lets take a look at this mornings front pages and most of them lead with the news that the Prime Minister has tested positive for coronavirus. The daily mail describes the development as a triple blow to the heart of government, as both Health Secretary matt hancock and chief medical officer chris whitty, have also gone into isolation. It also has a photo of meghan and harry who have relocated to la amid the outbreak. The guardian says mrjohnson has been accused of failing to take his own advice. The times asks if it will prompt further questions about whether members of the government are following their own guidance on social distancing. And finally the sun says the Prime Minister will be running the country by video link from his downing street flat, while his pregnant fiancee, carrie symonds, has moved out. The inside pages. Have you been wondering what to do with yourself . If you cant get out. There are some ideas in the paper. I have always been a big fan ofjigsaw. Do you like a jigsaw . Been a big fan ofjigsaw. Do you like ajigsaw . No, if im honest opposition this table he i was thinking, is kinda perfect for a jigsaw, but i cant bear them, they dragged me round the bend. Why . Theres just something. Dragged me round the bend. Why . Theresjust something. They are enjoying a comeback. Britain is a p pa re ntly enjoying a comeback. Britain is apparently going on unlikely shopping sprees as they create home offices and gyms but also jigsaw puzzles, growing their own veg, and dressmaking. A really, really like this. In the daily mail. De laet colouring in, charlie . This. In the daily mail. De laet colouring in, charlie . |j this. In the daily mail. De laet colouring in, charlie . I would rather do colouring in. And that is quite a challenging one. It is. But it is lovely. It is a heart made up of all different things, a dragonfly, bee, for the nhs. That is something you could do later. To pass the time. Are you someone who ca res pass the time. Are you someone who cares about going over the edges or not . Yes, i would. They would be fairly meticulous. And then there would be a point where ijust wouldnt. There has been a rise in all that stuff before what we are facing now. People doing that kind of thing. Some people might be doing jigsaws or those kind of things. This is more my style. That is one way to spend the time as well. Look at that phase. This is a gorilla, this is bristol zoo, in her enclosure, im sorry you cant see her name, my apologies. Keira. That is chilled. You see yourself a kin to the gorilla . It makes me relaxed, looking at that picture just makes me relaxed. Good. Thats alli am saying. Now they have seen the gorilla and see new i am kind of seeing it. Laughter. I will be going to talk to matt and see what is happening with the weather. We had a glorious week. Did you enjoy the gorilla picture . As soon as he put it up, i could see it. Charlie in the sunshine. What is happening this weekend, matt . It is getting colder. We have a change on the way, some sunshine around but through the next few days we will see much more cloud develop across the country at times but the wind will be picking up on that will come with an added windchill, it will feel a bit more like january i think by the time we hit tomorrow, compared to this stage in late march. Out there it is because we have High Pressure to the west of us, the winds around clockwise so we dragging thatair us, the winds around clockwise so we dragging that airfrom us, the winds around clockwise so we dragging that air from greenland us, the winds around clockwise so we dragging that airfrom greenland and the arctic through this weekend, hence the in temperature. It will still be a chilly day but a decent amount of sunshine across southern parts. A bit mcleod Northern England, Northern Ireland, some showers possible but scales across scotla nd showers possible but scales across scotland will be a fleet and hills not and scotland will be a fleet and hills notand rain scotland will be a fleet and hills not and rain mix as temperatures continue to drop although here it will be brighter than yesterday, more in the way of breaks in the crowd but the breezes picking up across the board and it will be getting close to gale force in one or two spots across the south and east later on and with the wind coming off the sea this afternoon temperatures dropping across those eastern coastal counties around eight degrees hot, 3 five in northern scotland and tonight, even though we have the breeze it will not stop temperatures from falling and widespread frost across northern and widespread frost across northern and Western Areas in particular and as the breeze stops, the breeze stops you from getting to cool down the coast and tonight we exchange to bst, a little bit darkerfor longer in the morning, light for later into the evening, sunset around half seven and eight oclock. And then into sunday itself, stronger winds across the country and generally more clout about an sunshine will come and go at times and some of the best boards Southern Coastal counties and is tingly east anglia and we will see the strongest of the winds here, maybe a0 or 50 miles an hourat of the winds here, maybe a0 or 50 miles an hour at times and temperatures across the board 90 degrees through the week, i9 degrees through the week, i9 degrees through the week. The effect of the wind will feel significantly colder so if youre in Central Eastern parts of england in particular it will feel closer to freezing. The wind eases a bit into monday and we will see a few showers around, mainly rain by this stage, claudia is probably across the west and a little bit of sunshine in the east and temperatures starting to lift a little bit but it is still going to be chilly and indeed through the week ahead, it is not going to be as warm as the weeks gone because High Pressure is with us gone because High Pressure is with us but it is still to the west, allowing north westerly winds but we will lose some of the chill this weekend. A bit of rain at times in the far north of scotland but elsewhere, most places in the week ahead will stay dry. The best of the sunshine in the south. That is how it is looking. Matt, thanks very much the us now has more confirmed cases of coronavirus than any other country, with more than 100,000 positive tests. Last night, President Trump signed the largest ever financial deal to support people through the pandemic. But how are people there responding to the outbreak . Political analyst eric ham joins us now from washington. Good to see you. Lets answer that question, how are people coping . People are staying off the streets, they are social distancing but of course there is a lot of anxiety across the country of course as you just mentioned, the United States is now leading the world and confirmed coronavirus cases and now what were seeing, even in some of the states such louisiana, michigan, they are hotspots that are growing now so while new york remains the epicentre of this virus, there are other places now that i continuing to grow in scale. Ok, so lets break down what is being offered in terms of help. The trump defence production act 2 trillion of extra money to support businesses. How is this going to be distributed . Well right now, what we are seeing is Many Americans will receive a one time payment of 1200 and in addition to that, they will be provided Unemployment Insurance for Many American workers who have lostjobs or have been laid off or furloughed asa or have been laid off or furloughed as a result of the coronavirus. In addition to that, what we are now seeing as it relates particularly to the defence production act, the president has now enforced that act, particularly against large auto manufacturing giant general motors, to now begin to produce ventilators that will be desperately needed, not just in new york but across the country, as these cases continue to grow. You will be aware that in all democracies you have journalists challenging government, holding them to account. And what were seeing in the United States is difference between federal government and the states. And some clashes there now with particular governors being critical of donald trump. What has been said . Absolutely, in fact, what were seeing is as this continues to really stretch local governments to the brink, particularly when we look at Healthcare Professionals on the ground and many of these states, they are desperately looking for support from the federal government and as that is not happening, what seeing is now many of these governors lash out at the federal government and today during a press conference that President Donald Trump gave, what he said was he wa nted trump gave, what he said was he wanted to see from governors, he wa nted wanted to see from governors, he wanted appreciation and to see and hear praise from them what the federal government is doing. However, if you look at state like michigan, he requested thousands of and 95 masks and they said during the shipment that they recently received from stock file that the federal government has, they receive none of those masks n95. Stock piles. Not only do they not have the vital materials of the need for their doctors and Health Workers but they are not getting the support from the federal government has the virus continues to increase around the country. And its interesting, isnt it . Donald trumps reaction to the rising number of cases being him putting that down to increased number of test but when you look at opinion polls now, there is a real split, almost like high approval and high disapproval as well . Youre right, and in fact what were learning is the President Donald Trump saw his Approval Ratings rise as he began to get more conferences and now were seeing the president do that on a daily basis and it is very interesting because in the United States we are seeing the president giving press briefings as well as the governor of new york, andrew cuomo, and there is a very marked difference in those press briefings and in fact when you look at the press briefing today, for example, andrew cuomo spoke to the national guard, giving them their orders to direct us to go out and Service Serve as First Responders to combat this crisis and there was a standing ovation that he received after that but when you look at the press co nfe re nces after that but when you look at the press conferences between President Donald Trump and the media, they are very confrontational, there is a lot of enmity believe between the two and what you see from the president isa and what you see from the president is a full on belief that the media is a full on belief that the media is attempting to badmouth him, to show him in a very unfavourable light which he believes could be detrimental to his his own pre election efforts in 2020. Detrimental to his his own preelection efforts in 2020. Thank you for the insight as to what is going on in the United States, good to talk to you. Eric ham there, us political analyst. As many of us do all we can to support the elderly or vulnerable who are isolating at home, theres a warning today that some criminals are trying to exploit the crisis with a series of new scams. Action fraud say more than a million has been lost to covid 19 related scams since early last month. Breakfasts john maguire has been finding out more. While most are trying to do the right thing, some are hellbent on doing the wrong thing. Taking advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable, using condoms and scams. But these days, often online, where it is easier to hide a high digital mask. So sorry to hear what happened. Run us through it. We spoke to a young woman who was caught out by a scammer masquerading as her genuine leasing agent, asking for money early because of coronavirus. She lost £1500. She does not want to be identified. Coronavirus. She lost £1500. She does not want to be identifiedlj just does not want to be identified. just feel i have been manipulated and exploited because they have really played on my emotions by saying i would be having someone out during this really difficult time. I was trying to be a good person and doa was trying to be a good person and do a good thing by doing this. I just feel sick and annoyed and angry. Ijust just feel sick and annoyed and angry. I just dont want this to happen to anyone else. Give us an idea. Action fraud is run by the city of london police, urging people to report cybercrime and fraud. This month, it has seen more than 280 cases related to the virus at a cost of more than £1. 1 million. But the crimes are underreported. You have got something that is in the public consciousness like this, we tend to see fraudsters using that as a cook, and we saw for example during the olympics, and they are very adept at doing so so the sort of things we have seen our e mails purporting to be from health organisations, offering information about the virus, we have seen e mails purporting to be from charities, requesting donations. And we have seen some from purporting to be from government organisations as well, requesting information. This is what is happening. So called fishing e mails, they look genuine but they ask for personal or financial details phishing. Fake products for sale, and at the moment face masks or hand sanitiser but luckily, no roles. Phone calls, again, trying to hack into your bank details. And destruction burglary. Targeting the elderly, tricking their way into homes by pretending to be Health Workers. Trading standards teams are in the front line, fighting the good fight against a particularly cruel crime. If there is any doubt, if something sounds too good to be true thanit something sounds too good to be true than it usually is so it is ok to stop and to pause and to then put the phone down or to reflect on the e mailand the phone down or to reflect on the e mail and ask trusted friend or a neighbour what they think. Legitimate traders will not rush you into making a decision, especially in the current climate. They will not. But of course these scams are often very sophisticated. They are conducted by confidence tricksters. So ata conducted by confidence tricksters. So at a time when our confidence is low, they go on the hunt. John maguire, bbc news. Do you know, the thing there that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and there is also the thing that we are always trying to be so polite you do not want to say no. That is option one is put the phone down. Seriously, if it is a bank oran phone down. Seriously, if it is a bank or an official body they will call back or get in contact with, by official means, e mail or a letter but if it sounds too good to be true than just say no. The phone down, shut the door. As concerns are raised about the number of people going out to the countryside during the coronavirus outbreak, firefighters have tackled a large blaze near winter hill in lancashire. There are concerns that it may have been started deliberately. We can speak now to shaun walton, a Group Manager at lancashire fire and rescue service, who was one of the team that put out the fire. Shaun, good morning. Tell us what you found when you got there . What was the scale of the fire . Good morning. When he arrived at the fire it was near the blue lagoon which is a local beauty spot near rivington and the fire was really well established. Right where it appeared to start was in earlier work where people park their vehicles and walk in that beautiful area. That again was the case yesterday, a lot of vehicles and a lot of cycling, mountain bikes and walkers in the area so that would restrict us trying to get to these type of spots through rural roads and when we got there, we were faced with a fire that was really intense and really fierce, being wind driven very very fast up the hillside, faster than anyone could run, so again we would go out in front of it and it would be difficult to do and potentially had to commit crews to rescue and again, the speed it was travelling, it was eating off the grasses that were in front of it of it and it was heading from the roadway right up to, you know, areas of special scientific interest and the remington garden area which is which received a lot of ground recently and it was a really severe fire, approximately two kilometres. Shaun as you are talking we are looking at images and what you are describing we can see clearly. What can you tell us about how it was started . Well, when we first went, by an investigation on scene, and the Lancashire Police, and the investigation team, and we found no evidence of what people might expect, barbecues, people apologising because they have accidentally started the fire. But what we did find was people who called in and said they had seen a number of youths in the area where the fire started who then left really quickly in a red car. So the police are looking into asking anyone if they have any idea about how the fire started to contact them and they can do that by phoning Lancashire Police and quoting yesterdays date and log number 805. That investigation will be ongoing andi that investigation will be ongoing and i suppose all of your officers will have been thinking the same thing that we shouldnt be doing this type of work right now because they could be all sorts of other demands on your time. Absolutely. All the agencies at the moment are preparing and some are already stretched, particularly the nhs and our colleagues in the other emergency services. Yesterday on the moors, had ourselves over 50 firefighters, volunteers from bolton rescue, united utilities, salvation army, external contractors, you know, and our advice is basically follow the government instruction, stay at home, save lives, do not congregate in rural areas and you know, if you want to go outside for a walk individually, you have a lot of people in the same space and we need to avoid that. We appreciate all the work that you and your collea g u es all the work that you and your colleagues are doing at the moment shaun. Shaun walton from lancashire fire and rescue talking about the callout yesterday and apart from anything else that is going on they we re anything else that is going on they were clearly in jeopardy themselves dealing with the fire. Absolutely. Headlines are coming up. See you shortly. Hello. This is breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Good morning. Thank you very much forjoining us. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. The Prime Minister borisjohnson has become the first world leader to test positive for coronavirus. Health secretary matt hancock and chief medical officer chris whitty are also in isolation. In a message posted on social media, the Prime Minister described his symptoms as mild and said he will continue to lead the government. Frontline nhs staff in england will begin being tested this weekend to see if they have coronavirus. Workers with symptoms or those who live with people who have symptoms will be checked starting with Critical Care doctors and nurses. It follows criticism over a lack of testing for Health Workers. The number of people who have died in the uk after testing positive for the coronavirus has risen to 759. The new figure was announced yesterday, and is the biggest daily increase yet. There have now been more than 1a,000 confirmed cases. President trump has signed the largest ever us financial spending package worth 2 trillion to help support people through the coronavirus pandemic. More than 100,000 people have now tested positive for the virus in the United States, more than any other country. A Record Number of people have filed for unemployment benefits. It is 6 31am. We will have the sport. The new normal, not with us on the sofa, but we can chat with her anyway. Good morning. Good morning. Were down here on the ground floor at the moment as we are to keep apart for all our health reasons. And were talking this week about the cancellation of the olympics, the knock on effect of that. Athletes are beginning to prepare for an olympics that will be rearranged for next year instead. During this pandemic one of the things that has been forgotten, maybe, as anti doping, doping tests, athletes arent being tested at home, people are not turning up on their doorstep to check whether they are cheating or not and with the olympics a year away you would expect doping to be a really big issue. The president of the World Anti Doping Agency has warned athletes they will be caught if they try to take advantage of reduced testing during the coronavirus pandemic. Witold banka, who only took charge at the start of the year, insists there are other methods in place that will help maintain the integrity of the system. This is my strong message to eve ryo ne this is my strong message to everyone who would cheat us. We will catch you. And its not now a good space and good situation for cheats. We will do everything to protect and maintain the unity of the system and iam sure maintain the unity of the system and i am sure that we will return the system to full power very quickly after this pandemic. The Athletics Diamond League has postponed three more meetings that were due to take place in may. The events in stockholm, naples, and rome and rabat will all be rescheduled in due course. World tennis number one Novak Djokovic, and his wifejelena, are donating 1 Million Euros to help fight coronavirus in serbia. The money, which will come from the Novak Djokovic foundation, will be used to bring in medical equipment to the country. The foundation normally focuses on Pre School Education for serbian children. Uk healthcare and other key workers will be eligible for free tickets to next years Rugby League World cup. The organisers of the tournament say they will give more than 20,000 free tickets away as a thank you for their hard work during the coronavirus outbreak. Tickets had been due to go on sale this summer, but that will now be delayed because of the pandemic. England rugby Union Head Coach eddiejones took a 25 pay cut this week as the sport looks to save money during the pandemic. But hes still scouting for talent and encouraging Young Players to keep training at home. You can still improve your game at this time. You can set up a gym at home. You can do some training in the backyard. You can practice your skills, get your parents to help you. And the parents, i notice a ha rd you. And the parents, i notice a hard drive you. It was down in horsham last week and a father was saying that he had to tell his son that rugby training is no longer on. So its a difficult time, but keep positive, because we will get out of this, we will beat this virus, and by this, we will beat this virus, and rugby will commence. Keep your spirits up. This is my favourite story of the morning. Now, theres very little live sport at the moment, but one of the years biggest events will be taking place albeit via a computer. A Virtual Grand National will be televised next weekend, with a0 runners set to take part. The race will use cgi technology and special algorithms to determine the winner. Reading a bit more about this, a p pa re ntly reading a bit more about this, apparently it will pitch former winners against each other. So you can see tiger roll going for a hat trick against red rum and party politics. So they are taking the archive and putting them on the same course and running them against each other. They are going to generate them through cgi. It is not real horses, it is not archival but together, it will be cgi horses of past champions racing over the fences and the computer will determine who the winner is. Not quite sure whether they will be allowed to take bets on it, because, of course, computers are man made so people could get inside information on that. At least we will have something to cheer on. One is that . Tomorrow . Next weekend when the national was supposed to be run. Innovation works sometimes. Now on breakfast, Victoria Derbyshire has more information and Health Advice on the coronavirus outbreak, in this special programme. Hello and welcome to this special programme. Im Victoria Derbyshire. Stay with us as we tried to tell you as much as we can about the latest on coronavirus to help you and so that you can share the information with others. And a reminder, for the latest on this matter coronavirus you can always head to our website for information on how its affecting people in your community and your country. First we all know the advice, wash your hands, avoid touching yourface, the advice, wash your hands, avoid touching your face, and the advice, wash your hands, avoid touching yourface, and maintain social distancing. Maintain around two metres between you and everyone else. As laura foster explains. Politicians, scientist, and even celebrities all want us to practise social distancing. It means no coming into contact with people u nless coming into contact with people unless you need to. No more as it is at your house, visiting other peoples houses, going to restau ra nts, peoples houses, going to restaurants, pubs, clubs, sporting events. You get the idea. If you can work from home the government says you should. And your employer should help you do this. If you absolutely cant work from home then avoid busy travel times. You can go out for a walk and buys angels, but you need to stay at least two metres from eve ryo ne to stay at least two metres from everyone else. Everyone should do it. If you limit the contact you have with others you are reducing your chances of catching the virus and passing it on to someone else we are hearing a lot about quarantine, but social but social distancing and quarantine are not the same thing. A big problem with coronavirus is that you can have it but not know about it meaning you can go about your day as you have always done, feel fine but actually infect around 2 3 people within a week. What happens is those people go on to infect another 2 3 people each, those people then infect others and thats how the virus spreads. Look at what happens when people stay at home and practice social distancing. For instance, if this person did not go down to their friends house and if this person worked from home, if this person did not go to the corner shop, if this person didnt visit their mother, this reduces the number of cases from a06 to just 15. As the number of cases goes down so does the pressure on doctors and nurses and on the Health Service. This will make the difference between People Living and people dying. You can go out to exercise once a day and fetch food and medicine but only with people you live with. Stay at home and stay at least two metres away from people if you do have to go out. Its not such a difficult thing. Thats the message from the government, to keep yourself apart so we do not spread and catch the coronavirus but unless youre two metres tall its hard to know what that looks like without a measuring tape. Its about three steps so, one, two, three. Enough space so that you can put a bed between you. Or two shopping trolleys. You should not be able to touch anyone with a broom. Thats great in theory but how does that look in the real world . If youre in the street thats about half a parking space and if youre in the countryside that is about two regular benches. If you are exercising you may have to come off the path and cross the road but that will add to the exercise. On public transport do not sit in the same row and have space in front and behind you. In an office you need to be four desk chairs apart and when shopping do not do it close together. Many shops have rules on how many people can be in at one time, and make sure you keep the two metre distance. Have deliveries left at the doorstep and if you are still not sure if you are keeping enough distance then add a bit more. Or see if you can hit them with a broom washing our hands and keeping clear of other people, both are vital to stop the spread of the virus, but what about other things you are constantly in touch with . Like your phone. Washing your hands is vital and if youre worried about germs on your phone you can clean it effectively with simple soap and water. Im a microbiologist and i will show you how to clean your phone. Turn your phone off and remove the case. All the major phone makers warn against using chemicals, hand gels and abrasive wipes because that can damage the protective coating on the screen. Damping a microfibre cloth in water and soap and gently rub the surface of the phone with the damp cloth. Take care not to get moisture in any of the openings because even a water resistant phones will lose their protection over time. Just using soap and water can remove bacteria from your phone and we can test that by using this device. It gives a reading of relative light units and that is a measure of the activity on your phone so the higher the number the more germs are present. We tested these phones and their cases before and after, cleaning with soapy water, and they were all significantly clea ner afterwards. On a surgical surface we would want to get a figure of 50 or less, and all of our phones and cases have readings lower than that. If you have an iphone, apple says you can clean it with 70 alcohol wipes. These are the ones you can get online or from computer shops. There are also devices you can use to sterilise your phone using a type of radiation it shouldnt ease but some phones could be discoloured over time. With all of these methods as soon as you touch your phone you will get germs by conduit so make sure you keep washing your hands regularly and thoroughly. What about other surfaces where the virus may lurk . This is jim reid. There are two main ways of catching coronavirus. The first is particles in the air, someone breathes out and the virus is spread in droplets and a single cough can produce 3,000 droplets. You breathe it in and become infected. This is why governments across the world are telling us to stay two metres away from each other to stop the spread. The second way is through something scientists call fomite transmission, those virus particles land on a hard surface and are spread when an infectious person touches it. Because a person is shedding the virus from their nose and throat and they re coughing it out into the air, that means anything they touch will be covered in this virus. If you come along later and touch the same surface you could pick up from that surface a collection of these virus particles, if there are enough of them, and you can transfer them to your nose and eyes and you could infect yourself. It is still early days but a team in the United States has run tests on corona already. They found the virus that causes covid 19 can remain active on some surfaces. On copper the result showed traces for up to four hours. On cardboard up to 2a hours. On plastic and stainless steel for up to three days. To mitigate the risk, wash your hands frequently and use alcohol gel, which deactivates the virus very efficiently, if it has more than 70 alcohol in it, and do what ive seen many of my friends doing, which is also wrap your sleeves around your hand to open the door or use your elbow. The amount of virus on a surface of sharply with time, according to studies, so doctors say it is important to be extra careful with services that are touched frequently by others. As forfood packaging deliveries and other things that come to the letterbox, we think the virus can live on cardboard for 2a hours and on plastic for up to three days. But Scientists Say treat those results with caution, we dont yet know how much of the virus is needed yet to infect someone or how easily it is transferred back to someone. If you are worried that the shelf stacker in the supermarket might have the virus, you could, if you really wanted to, wipe that down with a hand rub, as well, but that is probably not necessary. The risk is probably really low. In all these cases, though, the most effective thing you can do is wash your hands with soap. Cheap soap, fancy soap, any soap, for 20 seconds. If the particles are on your hands, it should be enough to kill the virus and break the chain of transmission. So again, the reminder to wash your hands. That is the advice from top scientists at the World Health Organization to gps working to save lives in hospitals. Alongside the good advice have come some dangerous myths about the virus. Chris morris now. We know whether experts say. Above all, wash your hands frequently to limit the spread but there have also been myths circulating on social media and elsewhere which amount to fake Health Advice. So here are a few things to ignore. Myth number one eat garlic to avoid infection. There is no question that garlic is a healthy food. The same goes for other fruit and vegetables, but the World Health Organization says there is no evidence that eating garlic or anything else has protected people from covid 19. Myth number two drink water every 15 minutes. Again, Drinking Water and staying hydrated is good for you but that doesnt mean it can stop coronavirus. You get a virus like this when you breathe in. Theres no biological mechanism to suggest you can flush it out of your system by constantly Drinking Water. Myth number three dont eat ice cream. The idea of avoiding ice cream or other cold foods can prevent the virus taking hold is totally untrue. And trying to heat your body to make it inhospitable for the virus just wont work. We know the flu virus does not survive well outside the body during summer heat, but we dont know enough about how the heat impact the new coronavirus. Myth numberfour drinkable silver. The use of colloidal silver, tiny particles of a metal suspended in liquid, has been suggested but the clear advice from Health Authorities is that it doesnt treat infections in the body or boost immunity. In fact, it could cause serious side effects like kidney damage, seizures, or even turning your skin blue. Again, the best advice in all circumstances keep washing your hands. These are difficult times. Ijust feel very panicked. Short breath. Anxiety has very physical effects. The way ahead is hard. A changing world thats particularly troubling if you already have an issue with anxiety. If i dont have a plan or something to work towards, that is when i start cracking. She was literally in tears and sobbing her heart out because she was so sobbing her heart out because she was so worried. For someone like francesca with a history of heart problems, watching each Coronavirus Development as she cares for her daughter, her stress levels have been rising. It basically comes in waves. To begin with, you take note of everything and then the more the news ramps up, being a new mum, suffering from Health Anxiety myself, it has just got progressively harder. Not everyones cup of tea but i do love a creepy crawlie. Lauren runs animal therapy sessions for schools and other groups. Business had been good but her worries have increased as bookings have disappeared. I have suffered with anxiety all of my life and just as i get on top of myself, Something Like this will smash it apart and its really, really hard. Its not just people who struggle with anxiety who are finding things tough. In a matter of days, all our lives have changed dramatically, which makes it really important that we find our own way of dealing with that stress. Panic attacks are a certain spike of anxiety and adrenaline. Dave smithson is from the charity anxiety uk. They have seen such a large increase in calls to the helpline they have had to extend its hours. I have been with the charity over 70 years and i cannot recall anything on this scale. It is simply unmatched and we are in uncharted territory. For some of the more 8 Million People in the uk who have an anxiety disorder, help comes with an apple or at least the way this charity uses one. Acknowledge that you are worried. Push back against the thought. Let go of the worry. And explore the moment because right now, you are fine. Francesca has found acknowledging the anxiety helps as well as speaking to friends online. And this situation you cannot personally be in control of and i need to find something i can be in control of and go forward with that. And hopefully, it will work and picking our own techniques for coping in the coming weeks will be important. Coronavirus has been affecting the way of life for tens of millions around the world and perhaps one group who would have felt it a little more than usual this week whether thousands of athletes training for the tokyo olympics. They have been postponed to 2021. But while most sport may have come to a halt because of the virus pandemic, many teams are trying to remain active in their community. Stevenage Football Club probably have more challenges than any other because they are bottom of the football league, but they are trying to lead the way in switching their resources, as the bbcsjoe wilson reports. Professional football, north hertfordshire. In adversity, what else to do but adapt . And so, stevenage fcs captain and central defender becomes food deliverer. The football has stopped but the community which surrounds the club is still there, waiting. There are people around the world that have got a lot of people they can rely on, but there are people, especially in this community, that dont have anyone to rely on, and its good for the club to all come together and help towards the one cause. Just a friendly voice at this time can be crucial. Stevenages foundation will continue to take calls, offer advice, even when staff start working from home. I have had a few people call up saying im really sorry that we are taking up your time and im saying, no, thats not a problem thats exactly what we are here to do, just talk to you. Lots of Football Clubs are helping in various ways at the moment. But here, the perspective is unique. Football was suspended with stevenage admittedly at the bottom, last place in league two. A couple of weeks ago, we might have even referred to that as a crisis. Now we really know what a crisis is. Our League Position is just out of the window. Were not worried about that. Were really worried about making sure the next time we kick a football here at the lamex stadium that as many of our staff, players and supporters and volunteers are all in a healthy position to come back and support us. Without money from matches, the future is, to say the least, a challenge. But clubs like stevenage are nothing without their communities. The support is mutual. Covid 19 is forcing family gatherings and parties across the world to be cancelled and for young children, it can be especially upsetting. Our headlines today coronavirus reaches the heart of government as the Prime Minister and Health Secretary test positive for covid 19. The men say their symptoms are mild and will continue to work from home. As the number of people known to have died in the uk passes 700, tests will begin this weekend to see which nhs staff have contracted the virus. Three new temporary hospitals are to be set up in birmingham, manchester and cardiff to help with the crisis. There are fewer tests because of the pandemic, but cheats will still be caught. Thats the warning from the president of the World Anti Doping Agency to athletes as they begin training for next years olympics. And in weather, while most of you will stay dry this weekend, its getting cloudier, its getting windier, and you are certainly going to notice it, its going to feel colder, too. I will have all the details here on breakfast. Good morning. Its saturday 28th march. Our top story borisjohnson has become the first world leader to test positive for coronavirus. Theyre the three men spearheading the national fight against covid 19 and all three are now self isolating because they have or think they have the virus. Ive developed mild symptoms of the coronavirus, thats to say a temperature and a persistent cough. The Prime Minister is in self quarantine in this flat above 11 downing street, but says he remains firmly in charge. Be in no doubt that i can continue, thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, to communicate with all my top team to lead the national fight back against coronavirus. On wednesday, the Prime Minister was in the house of commons, with his Health Minister sitting close by. Matt hancock has also now tested positive. Ill be continuing to do everything they can to get our carers the support that they need and ill be doing that from here, but with no less gusto. The governments chief medical officer hasnt tested positive, by professor chris whitty said he had symptoms compatible with covid 19. The nhs is already treating over 6,000 coronavirus patients and thousands more are expected in the coming weeks at new hospitals like this one at the excel centre in london. The government says Testing Health professionals for the virus will start from three new labs this weekend. These tests will be trialled for people on the front line, starting immediately, with hundreds to take place by the end of the weekend, dramatically scaling up next week. Health workers have also been calling repeatedly for better personal Protection Equipment. The government has changed its guidance to recommend the wearing of equipment for some high risk procedures that might generate infected droplets. But the Hospital Doctors Unions as it doesnt go far enough. They want all staff and patients in hospitals to have access to surgical masks, whether they have the virus or not. In london, many streets are nearly empty. The capital is dealing with more coronavirus cases than any other part of the country. The stay at home message is getting through, but will it be enough to stop the nhs being overwhelmed . Andy moore, bbc news. Lets talk now to our political correspondent, helen catt. Helen, the coronavirus has now struck at the heart of government will this affect how the Prime Minister handles the situation . You their from Boris Johnson. You theirfrom borisjohnson. He is a self isolating in downing street, which is not just a self isolating in downing street, which is notjust his home, but his office you heard there. There are secure phone lines that allow him to carry on with his work. He was able to have a conversation with us President Donald Trump last night. There are other measures, as you heard him describe their comedy wizardry of modern technology as he puts it, which allow the linkups, videoconferencing, we a Cabinet Meeting was held in that way earlier this week. That will also apply to the other minister, matt hancock, the other minister, matt hancock, the Health Secretary, who has also tested positive. He will be able to carry on working in this way too, same for the chief medical officer, chris whitty. When it comes to the things the Prime Minister would really need to do in person, there are other senior ministers who can step in. If you think of the daily downing street press conference, it was michael gove who stepped in and took that yesterday. It has not been the Prime Minister running those every day, it has been other senior ministers. There is a plan for if borisjohnson were to get more ill, and we must stress that downing street says he has mild symptoms, if you were to get more ill there is a designated person who would take over and that is the foreign secretary, dominic raab. Helen catt there. The number of people who have died in the uk after testing positive for the coronavirus has risen to 759. The new figure was announced yesterday, and is the biggest daily increase. There have now been more than 1a,000 confirmed cases. President trump has signed the largest ever us financial spending package, worth 2 trillion, to help support people through the coronavirus pandemic. More than 100,000 people have now tested positive for the virus in the United States, more than any other country. A Record Number of people have filed for unemployment benefits. As we near the end of the first week of stringent measures to combat coronavirus in the uk, more and more people are changing jobs and moving into areas where there is higher demand. Even with the governments scheme to protectjobs and businesses, recruiters say theyve seen a spike in applicants moving away from sectors such as hospitality, retail and travel. Our Business Correspondent Katie Prescott has the story. Alex ran a successful marquee business, until the ban on events forced him to mothball the company and furlough his staff. Now hes turning his hand food deliveries. We needed to find a solution for our ongoing costs. So weve diversified our fleet, we have eight vehicles, and theyre ready to, theyre prepped and ready to deliver fruit and veg all over london. As shops and restaurant up and down the country closed and high streets emptied out, some businesses and workers are turning their hand to areas where there is great demand, for example working in supermarkets or in deliveries. Recruiters are reporting a spike in the number ofJobs Available in e commerce, supply chains, educational technology, and gaming. This scheme to help people switch roles free of charge was started by a recruitment consultant. Ive figured that there were a ton of people who had been displaced from hospitality who know how to operate a till, they know how to deliver great levels of customer service, and its not million miles away from what happens in retail a lot of the time. You will see that theyre hiring into the thousands of people and theyre doing it in a variety of ways, some using online tools, some, like the co op for example, you go in with a cv and effectively theyll hire you on the spot. Serving up frozen ready meals is allowing this Events Company to keep on staff who would otherwise have been put on furlough. Its gone absolutely crazy in this time. We were going to start off as a Small Company and the three of us do it all together, now ive been able to move my staff from top hat catering over to eight food so i can keep them busy and fulfil the orders that keep coming in. This is not a huge back garden, it went round and round and round. It is far more special. Heres matt with a look at this mornings weather. Are we going to be running marathons in ourgarden are we going to be running marathons in our garden this weekend . You can do, but you will need an extra layer this weekend. Good morning to you. They hope you are well. It is a weekend of change. There has been a feeling of spring in therefore some of you in the past week, may be more of you in the past week, may be more of feel of winter for you as we go into tomorrow. It will turn much colder with a significant wind ill. With a comes a loss more cloud as well. We will still have a little bit of sunshine to enjoy at times. Lets ta ke bit of sunshine to enjoy at times. Lets take a look at whats happening out there. We have High Pressure to the west of us. That means with winds loving around in a clockwise direction we are dragging airfrom greenland clockwise direction we are dragging air from greenland and clockwise direction we are dragging airfrom greenland and the clockwise direction we are dragging air from greenland and the arctic, thatis air from greenland and the arctic, that is where it originated, hence it could see things turn colder. Line of sight and round at the moment, medically across southern areas. Allowable increase across the board and we will see a few showers develop here and there across parts of Northern England, Northern Ireland, midlands, north wales later. Not too many, ranger was mainly. It will be brighter here for some of you compared to yesterday, still the chance of a few showers and it will turn increasingly wintry with the northerly winds setting in. A mixture of hail, sleet, even snow at times. Temperature 3 5d in the north today. Maybe 13 on the south coast. For most it will feel colder thanit coast. For most it will feel colder than it has done of late. That chilly wind with us tonight. It will stop the temperature dropping too much, you can see the blue colours in the chart, an indication of frost will develop especially across northern and Western Areas. Not so much with these. Also tonight, the clocks go forward one hour, we spring forward into british summertime. It will feel more like winter. The biggest impact it will be is that it will be a bit darker for longer in the morning. Sunrise generallyjust for longer in the morning. Sunrise generally just before for longer in the morning. Sunrise generallyjust before seven a. M. Sunset around 7 30pm or eight p. M. The evenings will be lighter. Tomorrow while we will see sungshan at times, generally more cloud around. There will be a few showers here and there, particularly across northern and eastern areas a mixture of rain, maybe sleet and snow, most will stay dry. Tomorrow the wind strength and further especially across england and wales. We could see them touch 1a 15 mph. With temperatures is across the boa rd see them touch 1a 15 mph. With temperatures is across the board in single figures, and on the strength of that wind, it will feel much colder, close to freezing across many central and eastern areas. That is how it is looking. To you both. Thanks very much. As social distancing measures and restrictions on movement change life for all of us, it can be those that care for our most vulnerable who have some of the biggest challenges. Now, a number of hospices say their future is in the balance because fundraising events have been cancelled and Charity Shops have been closed. Lets take a look behind the scenes at the marie curie hospice in bradford, where things are very different since the outbreak of the virus. Hi there, im doctor sarah holmes, medical director at marie curie hospice at bradford. Welcome to the hospice. The hospice is a bit quieter than usual at the moment. Its a bit like that week between christmas and new year, when, you know, and normally this area would be full of our volunteers, patients who have come up as outpatients for the day, to come and see any of our team. We have had to close to outpatients to try to protect patients so they are socially distancing as much as possible. And although its distancing as much as possible. And although its quiet, where actually really busy making plans for how we can ca re really busy making plans for how we can care for more people with coronavirus when they need us. And patients that we would normally see as outpatients we are having to think differently, so i had my first consultation yesterday with a patient over video and that was a bit strange. We would normally be able to touch patients and i couldnt, so we had a bit of a virtual hug at the end of the consultation. Thats our lounge, which is normally open, filled with patients during the day. And we are going to think about how we could open that and put some beds in there so we have extra beds. Coming into the ward, this is a loss quieter thanit the ward, this is a loss quieter than it normally would be. So its normally quite buzzing. We have protected by complying with Government Social distancing so they are staying in their rooms so its a loss quieter. And we are working on the ward to plan again for how we can ca re the ward to plan again for how we can care for coronavirus patients so we can keep patients with coronavirus safe at one end of the ward and protect patients who dont haveit ward and protect patients who dont have it at the other end of the ward. Some insight there into a murray kerry trust care centre marie curie. Very interesting to see how it works out in practice. These are difficult decisions. We can speak now to matthew reed, the chief executive of the marie curie trust, and to karen, whose two disabled daughters are supported at a childrens hospice. Very good morning to both of you. Matthew, if we could kick off, it is very interesting looking around in bradford there. Seeing how difficult some of the decisions they have been making on the ground for some of your people. Thats absolutely right. Every day and night, every day of the year, thousands of marie curie nurses and doctors and Healthcare Professionals are doing the stuff they do so phenomenally well, caring for people in our hospices and caring for people in their homes and actually having a really compassionate way in which we can make sure that we relieve the pressure from the nhs. Either in the hospices or caring for people in their homes. I went to a home with some nurses recently before the Coronavirus Crisis started and the family were really sort of tense as we went in and the person who was dying were in the front room and the family was there and is the Marie Curie Team went in you could feel the calmness ascend on the room and the calmness ascend on the room and the confidence and the person had a good death, surrounded by their family and cared for by marie curie nurses at the front and the work at the moment has become even more challenging and the amazing doctors and nurses who work for marie curie are out doing that every day and night, caring for people in their homes where most people wanted to be cared for but also believing pressure dramatically on the nhs because if we were not caring for them in their homes they would have to be going to hospital. Sorry, matthew, i just wanted to be going to hospital. Sorry, matthew, ijust wanted to say it is such important work and the money for you which is a very real issue is financing, isnt it . The main worry for you. At the moment marie curie about the frontline of the National Emergency and making sure they can relieve pressure on the nhs and just when we are both most needed on this is the time when fundraising across the Charity Sector has become, has collapsed, and for marie curie that has been especially a problem because we have a great event in march and the way in which we raise money has stopped so therefore just actually when we are most needed by the nation is just when when we are most stressed financially to provide the care and thatis financially to provide the care and that is why we are saying to the public that were getting behind the nhs and care workers and we all know need to behind marie curie nurses and doctors front line staff as well, put the emergency appeal to make sure we can the resources we needin make sure we can the resources we need in orderfor us make sure we can the resources we need in order for us to deliver the ca re need in order for us to deliver the care which we know is so valuable and people rely on it and their families and is so needed by the whole of society at the moment to relieve pressure on the nhs. Matthew you have been describing exactly as the chief executive of marie curie what you are seeing and we can now talk to karen who has two disabled daughters. Lovely to see you and i know you are at the noahs ark childrens hospice. And you are feeling this, you are feeling the impact of this lack of money, the impact of this lack of money, the impact that the viruses having because you currently have no carers coming in to help you . Us about your situation. Well, as you say, i have two disabled children, nick who is in bed with me is the noahs ark child and usually we get some carer hours from noahs ark and other support as well. At the moment, because of coronavirus, our regular ca re rs are because of coronavirus, our regular carers are self isolating, quite rightly so, which means that we are stuck and obviously the noahs ark team, who really are fab but they cannot risk things. If we think we may have been in contact with someone with a virus, they cannot come to us and possibly pass it onto someone else so the moment, they are doing all that they can to support us from afar. So that is, you know, video link, phone calls, the volunteer service have been offering to do shopping and stuff. They are doing their best but i do worry what is going to happen, realistically, yeah. Karen, you know, you have got aand marie yeah. Karen, you know, you have got a and marie curie trust who both have cerebral palsy. What is your day now consist of . I see you laughing, rightly, and the fact that you are smiling is brilliant, and i would like to ask how it affects you because you will also be affected. You because you will also be affected. You have because you will also be affected. You have addy and nick. Because you will also be affected. You have addy and nick. At the moment i am running on adrenaline and chocolate we have had a very difficult year and nick has only re ce ntly difficult year and nick has only recently come out of hospital where she had a very severe respiratory issue and was intubated and that was quite terrifying so she has actually not been at school since february. And we cannot see her going back for the foreseeable. It is basically doing a normal stuff for the day which, for nick, is i think ia different regular which, for nick, is i think 1a different regular medications about six times a day. We have had to include suctioning, nebulisers, into her daily routine. As well as doing all of her personal care. Facilitating her communication. And trying to keep her kind of occupied and addy i also have to do pretty much all of her personal care. She can use a wheelchair herself but she needs someone to put her into it and she needs someone to take it out of it and everything like that. She needs occupying. At the moment she is sitting in the kitchen on her ipad and is happy doing that. But she cannot do that all day. Obviously in between doing stuff for nick, i need to be trying to do stuff for addy, trying to give her some of my attention, trying to make sure she is keeping up a little bit with schoolwork, doing stuff, but we cannot. We cannot go out, basically. We are lucky that we have a Lovely Garden and the weather has been good and we have been out in the garden but usually during the holidays, we have carers who come in and come out with us. Because obviously with two disabled children, going out anywhere is very difficult. You cannot fit to make wheelchairs into a standard disabled toilet and most toilets do not have hoisting so we do need people with us and if nick is not well enough to go out one day then we need a carer who can stay and look after her so i can take addy out. At the moment obviously we are stuck. And it does get frustrating at times. It does get frustrating at times. It does get difficult. Online support groups have been amazing. Are amazing. Neighbours have been fantastic and they have been doing shopping for us and stuff. But ultimately, whatever we are doing, it is with the fear of what do i do if one of the girls gets sick and ends up in hospital . You know . Hopefully noahs ark will step in and help us if that is the case but who knows for sure . Now, karen, thank you for taking us through, you know, all karen, thank you for taking us through, you know, all i mean, it is so difficult what you are going through and i noticed matthew, as you were listening in there you are nodding all of the way through. You deal with people in different circumstances but also, you know, her struggling to cope in various ways, there are some very difficult situations right now, there is no point pretending otherwise, and your organisation, like others, isjust trying to help as best you can. While thats absolutely right. We have the privilege at marie curie of caring tens of thousands of people every single year who are dying with compassion and care and love and help theirfamilies compassion and care and love and help their families and loved ones and we want to carry on doing that. That is what people need and they value us doing but immensely. And at the moment, we can do so by also believing pressure therefore on the nhs at the same time by keeping people away from hospitals and in their homes. So we have this real sense that our work is more needed now than ever before. A frontline nurses and doctors are amazing people at marie curie are at the front line in some really really difficult circumstances and all they need now is the guaranteed resources behind them so we can make sure we can deliver this service. This type of care in the uk is predominantly funded by voluntary and income from public and partly from the nhs and what we need now is the public to get behind nhs care workers are marie curie stuff, just as i get behind the nhs, to make sure that together we can play our part in this National Emergency at the moment and make sure that everyone has dignity and compassion and love, as we would want for ourselves and our loved ones, that is our mission at marie curie and that is what we wa nt to at marie curie and that is what we want to deliver. It is a very clear message about what is needed there, matthew. Karen, ican message about what is needed there, matthew. Karen, i can only imagine your story would have touched so many people today. What what do you wa nt many people today. What what do you want to say in terms of what do you need . What can people do at this time and there are people like you and around the country who are going to be struggling and who are living on adrenaline and chocolate, like you said, because effectively you feel like you are living on your own . I think that the key is we are not on our own. We may be physically on our own but there are lots of people either friends or organisations such as local hospices, who were there trying to help us through and i think one of the things that matthew said that was quite important is that hospices are doing all that they can to try and support the nhs and i know that kind of the plan for noahs ark at the moment is to do what they can to ta ke the moment is to do what they can to take the load off the nhs. So to have children, they just take the load off the nhs. So to have children, theyjust opened the most amazing new building, we were actually one of the first families to stay there, which was amazing, andl to stay there, which was amazing, and i know that there are bedrooms for people who will need that kind of care that they can provide. Obviously we hope that not too many people need that but noahs ark will be there. The difficulty being that if they use up all of their resources on fighting and helping to fight coronavirus, then a few months down the line, what happens when hopefully things are ready to restart but they dont have the funding for the sibling support . The specialist carers, the therapeutic support. The things they provide. And this is a big worry because we have come to depend on them and come to rely on them. I would say to people if you are not spending money going out at the moment and i really hope you are not going out at the moment and think about donating to your local hospice. Ideally, to our local hospice you know, that is all ican local hospice you know, that is all i can really say. You know, karen, cani i can really say. You know, karen, can i say, retouched here in the studio and people will be affected by what you are saying and what you said at the end there is so true. We wish you and your family and neck there with you, your two daughters, all of the best over these difficult times. Amazing what you are doing. So thank you for talking to us today and thank you, matthew, for your time as well, good to speak to you. We will talk another time. Thank you. The strength of that woman, he . It is 26 minutes past seven. Hey. Coronavirus testing for Health Workers on the frontline in england will begin this weekend after criticism that not enough was being done to check if nhs workers have the virus. Critical care doctors and nurses will be checked first, followed by staff in emergency departments, paramedics and gps. Boots is one of the companies which will be supporting this testing, and were joined by sebastian james, who is the managing director of boots in the uk and ireland. Thank you very much for your time and we should start with basics. Testing is so important now and public is so interested in what is happening and you are a number of Companies Involved so give us the picture, explain the basics of what is happening. Yes, there are two kind of test happening, the second is happening later in the first one is happening later in the first one is the very important so called antigen test and this is a test for nhs frontline workers and it means that if somebody falls ill, they can come into one of the drive in centres that we have set up at boots and get tested so that the very next day they will have a resultant know if they do or do not have the coronavirus. Result so they do or do not know. And if they do not it is safe for them to go back to work and that makes a huge difference to the ability of the frontline and had your stuff to do theirjob. So these drive in centres are starting today . No, they have been going actually for two or three days so we have been running one site for three days and one site opened yesterday and we have a couple more opening tomorrow so we think that the role that is reasonably rapid. Talk to us about these tests themselves. If someone comes in, they take the test as you say and they have been doing this for a couple of days now, how soon do they get the results and are these cleared for use because there has been come from they has been some confusion about whether these things need to be checked to see if they are working correctly. Just clear a ll they are working correctly. Just clear all of that up for us, if you want. Yes, so most of that is about the so called Antibody Test which is the so called Antibody Test which is the pregnancy type test. This is a laboratory the pregnancy type test. This is a la boratory test the pregnancy type test. This is a Laboratory Test and it definitely works. Typically, results come out within 2a hours and of course it is important that the results are quick so that people can get back to work if it is safe and healthy for them to do so. So is it the case then, mr james, that you have already had nhs frontline workers who have had the test done who have now got a result, so they know whether or not they have coronavirus or not, and therefore being able to make decisions about whether they should or should not be at work, is that already occurring . Yes, that has already occurring . Yes, that has already happened. The way it works is that the nhs workers will receive a kit and the way we did it was, the nhs workers receive a kit and they come to one of our test centres and one of our boots volunteers will swa p one of our boots volunteers will swap their nose and throat and then that test is sent off to a laboratory for overnight processing. So the result is pretty quick and very reliable. Can you give us a sense of how many people have already been tested in that way . And looking ahead, aware that has been used a lot lately about rolling out of testing, so you know clearly early stages so how many have been tested so far and what doesnt look like in the days ahead . Well, each test centre can do a so called five day test centre, we have five simultaneous test, can do about 6 800 day. We will be rolling out by the end of this weekend there will be four or five up the end of this weekend there will be four orfive up and the end of this weekend there will be four or five up and running the end of this weekend there will be four orfive up and running and then we will respond very quickly as boots to whatever requests the nhs make of us. My sense is that there will be quite a good demand for a large number of these to be rolled out over time. So you are obviously in charge of the ones you are in charge of, as boots, you are running these centres. Yes. But your understanding as if this is deemed to bea understanding as if this is deemed to be a success than this could be, what you are doing yes, were standing ready to replicate this as many as necessary. It takes us about a8 hours, once we have a location. And, of course, thatis have a location. And, of course, that is determined by energies need. It takes about a8 hours to get one up it takes about a8 hours to get one up and running, train our staff, recruit volunteers from our teams, and get ongoing. You are responding to what the Government Asks you to do. But you must have thought a little bit about the maths in connection with this, the number of people who need testing. Initially we are talking about the front line staff and how quickly we can test all of those people. Have you got any sort of figures as to when you think that could be achieved . Yes, well, think it could be reasonably quick. If you think that each test centre can do between 600 and 800 today, you dont have to get to very many today, you dont have to get to very ma ny test today, you dont have to get to very many test centres before you are getting through the population that needs to be tested quite quickly. So were needs to be tested quite quickly. So we re pretty needs to be tested quite quickly. So were pretty optimistic this could make a big difference top ryde eve ryo ne make a big difference top ryde everyone is interested in timelines. When you say quickly, what do you mean . I would like to say within a few weeks we would have a good number of test centres, as many as are number of test centres, as many as a re necessary to number of test centres, as many as are necessary to get the job done. In terms of location, with the ones who have been operating so far, where are they . The very first one was on our own campus up in nottingham, that was our pilot test centre and it has worked really, really well. We have been very encouraged by that. The next ones are in various locations around london and then we will be going out, we will be going out, im pretty sure the next ones after that will be in scotland, wales, and Northern Ireland, and so on around the country. Sebastian james, very interesting to talk to you this morning. Thank you for your time. Sebastian james, managing director of boots uk. Talking to us about the rolling out of these drive in centres. Clearly a significant moment. We will try to keep you up to date on how that is working out. We have the numbers there for the first time really. 600 800 people can be tested in a centre. It is encouraging because that is what we have been asking government ministers, about how quickly managers and frontline staff can be tested. So were hopeful. It is a 7 32am. We will be back shortly with the headlines. Hello. This is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty. Good morning. Heres a summary of todays main stories from bbc news. The Prime Minister, borisjohnson, has become the first world leader to test positive for coronavirus. Health secretary matt hancock has also been diagnosed with covid 19, and chief medical officer chris whitty is also in isolation after developing symptoms. The new figure was announced yesterday, and is the biggest daily increase. There have now been more than 1a,000 confirmed cases. States President Trump has signed the biggest deal. 100,000 people tested positive for the virus in the United States. They will take place in japan next year. The president of the World Anti Doping Agency has warned athletes they will be caught if they try to take advantage of reduced testing during the coronavirus pandemic. Witold banka, who only took charge at the start of the year, insists there are other methods in place that will help maintain the integrity of the system. This is my strong message to everyone who would cheat us. We will catch you. And its not now a good space and good situation for cheats. We will do everything to protect and maintain the unity of the system and i am sure that we will return the system to full power very quickly after this pandemic. World tennis number one Novak Djokovic, and his wifejelena, are donating 1 Million Euros to help fight coronavirus in serbia. And the parents, i know how hard this is on you. It was down in horsham last week and a father was saying that he had to tell his son that rugby training is no longer on. So its a difficult time, but keep positive, because we will get out of this, we will beat this virus, and rugby will commence. Keep your spirits up. Iimagine i imagine there will be lots of garden Training Session today with all the sport being cancelled on saturday. Some good news. There will be some sport next weekend. One of the years biggest events will be taking place albeit via a computer. A Virtual Grand National will be televised next weekend, with a0 runners set to take part. The race will use cgi technology and special algorithms to determine the winner. We dont know yet whether bookmakers will be taking bets on this, because, of course, algorithms and computers can be interfered with by human beings and, of course, you cant take notes on something a human may already know the outcome of, but we will see the likes of tiger roll, red rum as well, using cgi means they can go back to the archives and use past champions and fed them against one another. We will have a grand national on television next weekend, albeit a radically different one. That is the life we have come to expect. Even if we cant bet on it we can have a virtual bit amongst friends. Or a real bed. You can bet whatever you like amongst friends and family. hope we are allowed to do that. We will set up definitely and whats that next weekend. Lets have a flutter on that one indeed. It is a 7 38. As the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise, work is under way to convert londons excel Exhibition Centre into a temporary field hospital. Due to open next week, it has been called nhs nightingale and will house up to a000 beds. Dr kunal patel, a dentist, has volunteered to help out along with his entire practice. Hejoins us now. It is lovely to see her smiling face this morning. Hello, good morning. A smiling face. This morning. Hello, good morning. A smiling face. You have the Nightingale Hospital being open. What is happening . Week, two weeks ago, we decided to put our drills down because, unfortunately, u nfortu nately down because, unfortunately, unfortunately our governing bodies in the guidance wasnt there for us. Asa in the guidance wasnt there for us. As a dental community we quite early on recognised how ppe and aerosols that would create from our treatment was endangering and passing on the covert virus. It wasnt what we wa nted covert virus. It wasnt what we wanted to happen at that point in time. A couple of weeks ago we decided to put our drills down and, u nfortu nately, we decided to put our drills down and, unfortunately, we had to step away from treating our patients. Luckily this week the chief dental officer has come out and shut down all dental practices across the country for the safety of not transmitting covid 19. So it has been a great effort. It was a sad time for us in the clinic because, you know, we are used to helping people. We felt as if we were not able to do our part for the nhs. But, if we were not able to do our part forthe nhs. But, luckily if we were not able to do our part for the nhs. But, luckily enough, we have been able to volunteer over the last few days to help the wider nhs. What that has involved is, first of all, we have shut down our clinic, so we needed to make sure there was something in place to treat millions of patients. Because, as you can imagine, we cant really treat acute to tooth pain over the phone. And thatis to tooth pain over the phone. And that is all we are allowed to do at the moment. So, luckily enough, we are able to help by being able to offer our clinic as an urgent dental ca re offer our clinic as an urgent dental care centre. You will be in the hospital but working with emergency cases. No, there are three aspects of volunteering. The first one we have been able to do is volunteer our clinic as urgent dental care centres. I think they will be located locally in our areas. And if our clinic is to be selected, i believe our team will be one of the chosen teams in the area to treat acute dental pain. We will also come yesterday, asked by the nhs to tell them a stock count of which ppe we had available to us, such as masks and gloves. So i presume, if we are not chosen to be an urgent dental ca re not chosen to be an urgent dental care centre, we will be offering our ppe equipment to either Nightingale Hospital or these centres. And, lastly, we were able to, yesterday, officially volunteer the entire team from dental nurses to receptionist to therapist to dentist for the Nightingale Centre. Now, they did allow us to sort of, because our skills are all going to vary from my dental team, as you can imagine, so we we re dental team, as you can imagine, so we were able to volunteer if we wa nted fa ce we were able to volunteer if we wanted face to face or if we wanted to prefer only being over the telephone care. So this has been made available to us. We are able to volunteer. I mean, iwas so made available to us. We are able to volunteer. I mean, i was so proud of our dental team when they all said yes they want to volunteer, because it shows that Great Community support and we know what a tough time our medics are having on the front line on the nhs. We have 70 colleagues. They are saying as long as the correct ppe will be available, which, obviously, resulted in our Dental Clinic shutting, but im hoping, we can only hope that the Nightingale Centre and everything else, the nhs, has enough ppe to recruit me and my tea m has enough ppe to recruit me and my team in. Because obviously safety is first and not going to battle covid by spreading the virus anymore. Ppe is going to be essential in this. As long as we have it we are all hands in. My team are ready to go. But, obviously, im sure they do. Thank you forjoining us and telling us your situation and if you are chosen and to work in the Nightingale Hospital, come back and tell us what it is like. No, iwill. Were forward to helping, you know, the rest of the nhs. On cue, good sentiment. Lets take a moment on saturday morning, matt has all of the weather for us right now and how is saturday morning, matt has all of the weather for us right now and how is it looking, matt . Thank you. Not a bad picture at all and i think many of us are watching the weather from inside and the sunshine gives usa from inside and the sunshine gives us a lift and there will be sunshine streaming through the window at times this weekend but is this whether watcher from hampshire shows us, these are the skies we will see coming through the weekend and some cloud starting to develop and with it, much colderfeel as cloud starting to develop and with it, much colder feel as well with aircoming down it, much colder feel as well with air coming down from greenland and the arctic, actually breeze and that is developing through today, bringing more cloud across the country but a few showers here and there as well across parts of scotland, Northern England north wales midlands in particular and hit and miss most places staying dry, rain showers in england could be sleet and snow across scotland as those temperatures dropping as you see by the afternoon a lot more cloud on the charts, sunniest of all throughout some southernmost counties and actually not bad on the far north of scotland too the wind will be cupping we could get close to golf was in the south east corner and that will start to make feel colder than perhaps these temperatures would suggest but already 3 5d, in aberdeen. The chill is setting in. Normally we will see temperatures drop quickly after a cold day like that and the breezes stopping it but still the blue colours on the chart show a widespread frost to take us into tomorrow morning across northern and Western Areas. It is a day in which Western Areas. It is a day in which we step into british summertime and clocks go forward one hour so a longer evening as far as daylight is concerned through tomorrow and through the day itself, one or two showers here and there but the breezes continues to pick up, strongest towards the south and east but it could touch gale force and a noticeable windchill. That is how it is looking. Is noticeable windchill. That is how it is looking. Matt, thank you back with the headlines of course at eight oclock. Now on breakfast, its time for click. This week, the uk went into lockdown over the continuing Coronavirus Crisis. We were told to limit all of our activities and stay at home. This comes as the World Health Organization says the pandemic is accelerating across the globe. Hospitals everywhere are facing a shortage of equipment, including ventilators. This life saving equipment helps patients to breathe in the most critical cases, when their lung function fails. The uk currently has around 8,000 ventilators in the country, but needs many more. So, how do we urgently get access to more of these machines . Can we manufacture more of them in this country . Jen copestake has been looking at some of the possible solutions. The uk government has put a call out to big businesses to help manufacture new ventilators. Already, dyson have answered saying they are hoping to start production on 10,000 machines by mid april. But will this be enough, soon enough . Teams of engineers and doctors are also trying to come up with more Immediate Solutions to this problem, which could be cheaper and more portable. We spoke to some of them this week. Most are committed to making their designs open source and freely available once they have been tested. These machines need to work 2a hours a day for up to 1a days at a time per patient. So set to respirate 15. A team from the university of oxford and Kings College london have quickly designed what they think is a workable ventilator, which could go into production right away, called oxvent. It was presented to the uk cabinet this week and was made to special covid 19 regulations that the government published. And is driven into this box. Inside the box is a standard ambulance bag. These bags are normally compressed by hand to provide air to a patient, but in this case, we compress it using the pressure from our air supply. The device is made from a0 components, 90 of which are off the shelf, meaning they are already in the nhs supply chain and theoretically easy to procure. Oxvent will now be tested in birmingham, and may cost less than £1,000 per machine, compared to tens of thousands of pounds for ones in use in hospitals now. We want something thats simple and that can be built. And sure, i can make a ventilator as fancy as you like, but ill get it to you in october, if thats all right. Thats not an option. In france, a collective have created what they call the minimal universal respirator. Theyre confident it could enter the mass Production Phase in the coming days. Theyve already shown it to a paris hospital. Its made of 3d printed components and hasnt yet been medically certified, but they say there is a need to innovate quickly in a crisis. When you need to do a tracheotomy, when you dont have the kit to do it, you use that a pen. 0k . And we are doing something that is almost similar to that. Its, ok, its not a full feature respirator, but it may help save people, so we must try it. This attitude to try and iterate quickly is echoed in spain, which has faced a rising death toll. This ventilator is also made from 3d printable parts. A group working out of the Leitat Technology Centre only started the design a week ago. Theyve already brought it to a hospital to try out. It is going through the final stages of medical testing, and if successful, will be ready to manufacture. It costs less than 500 euros to make and can be made in 2a hours. The group say they have been approached by manufacturers ready to produce 50 100 a day once they receive approval. In lithuania, people are working on a simple 3d printable respiratory device that doesnt need electricity. The idea was inspired by designs from japan that have been tested on the International Space station. If the prototype succeeds, they want to make it freely available to those most in need. When we think about third world countries, where there is, like, extremely huge populations, and theyre not that developed in the medicalfield, people will die due to a lack of equipment. We also saw a sophisticated solution which could be made quickly. In canada, thornhill medical, whose Battery Powered ventilators are used by the us military, have been asked by the government there to ramp up production. Their portable intensive care device is Battery Powered and generates its own oxygen from the air. Theyre already ce marked and fda approved, and the designer believes they have the expertise to make them quickly in adapted automotive or aerospace factories around the world. If everybody puts the pedal to the metal and goes full speed, i think this could be ramped up in very large numbers pretty quickly. Its certainly inspiring to see how engineers around the world are coming together to work on this problem in the face of many challenges. But getting out cheaper, Faster Solutions could be critical for people everywhere where ventilators are scarce. That wasjen, and lets hope that technology really can be used as a force for good in this crisis, and those machines get to the people who need them. Now, with about a third of the global population currently under some kind of lockdown, we are increasingly turning to tech to stay connected, and chris fox has been looking at some ways to recreate that social feeling at a distance. Like millions of us across the world, ive spent the last week self isolating and staying at home. Luckily, ive been social distancing for about 20 years, so ive learned a thing or two about staying social without leaving the house. Hey hi, zoe. Hows it going . Video calls are suddenly all the rage, and this week, instagram added a new feature called co watching, that lets you show off your favourite photos during an Instagram Video call. Oh, look for a video chat with a difference, check out house party. Its been lingering at the top of the app charts all week. Instead of calling your friends, you notify them when youre free for a chat, and up to eight friends can drop in to the same party. Its owned by fortnite maker epic games, so of course you can play games here, too. If you miss playing board games with your friends, board game arena lets you choose from a range of modern games, and some classics like chess and backgammon, to play either against your friends or against internet strangers, if you prefer. Most of the games are free to play, although the website is so busy at the moment, it says its given priority access to premium subscribers at peak times. Heres a tip if you prefer to play your own board games. Some of the video calling apps, including zoom and skype, will let you start a call on your phone, but invite your computer as a guest participant using just one account. So you can video chat over here and use your phone as a camera to stream the game board. Now, this is the only game ive got in the flat to demonstrate with. Its a secret admirer board game where players have two work out its a secret admirer board game where players have to work out who fancies them and call them on this phone. Is it matt . Hi, sorry its not me laughs. Oh, its not matt its not matt. Oh, no bad luck, spencer now, being in isolation doesnt necessarily have to put your dating life on hold. Im trying a new app called filter off. It was originally as a way designed to beat catfishers, fake profiles, because instead ofjust swiping yes and no on people to try to find matches with people you think are hot, instead youre matched with a set number of people to do speed date video calls on an evening. So what you do is you tell the app when youre free well, im not doing anything else tonight and then you are matched with people. And my first chat will be with zach, founder of the app, and i dont even get to see his picture, just a few facts as sort of conversation starters. And its counting down now. Your date begins in a few seconds. This is actually very tense hey, chris hey, zach hows it going . Good, man. How are you . Looking good ive actually brought you to one of my favourite dining spots. Its my kitchen. Thank you for that. So why did you want to create filter off . Yeah, so i created filter off to give people an easy way to see if they vibe with one another, and i think the best way of doing that is through video. Couldnt this potentially be more brutal . That youve actually spoken to someone, and then they dont match with you . I mean, thats the risk, right . But you could also show up on a date and then you never get texted. You cant use the excuse that youre busy, because i know youre in isolation. If your online date goes well and you get as far as netflix and chill, then check out netflix party. Health workers have also been calling repeatedly for about better personal Protection Equipment. The capital is dealing with more coronavirus cases than any other part of the country. The stay at home message is getting through, but will it be enough to stop the nhs being overwhelmed . Andy moore, bbc news. Lets talk now to our political correspondent, helen catt. Once the news that the Prime Minister and the Health Secretary had tested positive for coronavirus, a lot of people asking questions about how this works in practice . Well, we are told that borisjohnson can continue to lead the government response to coronavirus. If you think about where he is self isolating in downing street, its not just his isolating in downing street, its notjust his home. There is also a functioning government building, and offers. There are things there like secure phone lines, which means he can continue with his work. We know, for example, he spoke to donald trump last night. There is also, as he mentioned there, the wizardry of modern technology. We have already seen the government started to use video calling for those Daily Press Briefings for journalists and video calling for those Daily Press Briefings forjournalists and also for the Cabinet Meeting. They will be more of that. The same applies to the Health Secretary, matt hancock, and chief medical officer, chris whitty. There are things that perhaps you would expect Boris Johnson to be trying to do personally, and those are things like actually holding those Daily Press Briefings. In those cases other ministers can step in in his place. Yesterday we saw michael gove. It hasnt been borisjohnson who has headed up every single press briefing anyway. It has been other ministers. There is a plan for if you were to get more ill and not be able to carry on working. Dominic raab, the foreign secretary, would step in. But we should stress that downing street says he has mild symptoms and can continue working, much like many other people. Helen, thank you. The number of people who have died in the uk after testing positive for the coronavirus, has risen to 759. The new figure was announced yesterday, and is the biggest daily increase. There have now been more than 1a,000 confirmed cases. Widespread coronavirus testing for frontline nhs staff will begin being rolled out in england this weekend. The checks will start with Critical Care doctors and nurses who display symptoms, and those that live with them. It follows criticism over a lack of testing for Health Workers. Earlier on breakfast, the managing director of boots the chemist explained that pilots had already taken place. And the way it works is that the nhs workers will receive a kit. The way we did it was the lh workers receive a kit, they come to one of our test centres, one of our volunteers will swa p centres, one of our volunteers will swap their nose and throat, that the testis swap their nose and throat, that the test is sent to a laboratory for overnight testing. The result is pretty quick and very reliable. Can you give us a sense of how many people have already been tested in that way . Looking ahead, there is a word being used a lot at the moment, the rolling out of testing. Clearly you are at the early stages. How many have been tested so far and what does it look like in the days ahead . Well, each test centre can do, a so called five day test centre, where you have five simultaneous tests, you can do five to 600 a day. We will be rolling out by the end of this weekend four or five. Then we will respond quickly as boots to whatever request the nhs make of us. My sense is that there will be quite a good demand for a large number of these to be rolled out at the time. The chief executive of boots uk talking about those drive in centres. Operating for three days already. The roller taking place. Roll out. President trump has signed the largest ever us financial spending package worth 2 trilion to help support people through the coronavirus pandemic. More than 100,000 people have now tested positive for the virus in the United States, more than any other country. A Record Number of people have filed for unemployment benefits. The first of several planned temporary hospitals is set to go online next week at the excel london Exhibition Centre. Angus crawford is there for us now. Angus, good morning. This is the start of many, which were announced yesterday. This is the first that will open . Yeah. An extraordinary logistical task trying to turn what is in effect an enormous barn of a building, more used to Holding Things like the International Boat show, into what would be the biggest single hospital in the uk. Initially they are talking about 500 intensive ca re they are talking about 500 intensive care beds opening towards the middle end of next week, each one with a ventilator and oxygen. But they do think that they could, if they needed to, escalate this to being a a000 bed unit. Why here, why now . Quite simply because london has become the epicentre of the uk coronavirus outbreak. More than a000 positive tests. Angus, thank you very much. Angus crawford at the excel centre, which will be one of the first new hospital facility in the country. Its probably worth saying as well, you will know if you are watching regularly, we will be speaking to doctors, medics, scientists as well. Answering some of your questions. If you have got some today, we will be speaking to gp dr mark porter in 20 minutes. Everyday there are more questions. We always say the same thing. If the question is in your head,it thing. If the question is in your head, it is worth asking. If you have got thoughts on that, dr mark porter, 8 30am. I feel we should be seeing him running, to do justice to i feel we should be seeing him running, to dojustice to his efforts. That is the finishing line. Constructed by his son. A modest amount of toilet roll. That is the wonderful moment as he crossed the line. Bright sunshine, on his own. Well done. I love the fact, charlie, that we are now in a situation where we arejudging the that we are now in a situation where we are judging the amount of toilet roll that is used. And you have deemed that modest. Well done, thats what i say. They will be other people thinking, how do i do that . The garden wasnt huge. 800 odd laps. Well done. Ten minutes past eight. Matt will have the weather shortly. Let me give you a quote. This virus does not discriminate. Thats the warning from Cabinet Office minister michael gove after it was announced that the Prime Minister has tested positive for coronavirus. The Health Secretary, matt hancock, and englands chief medical officer, professor chris whitty, are also in self isolation this morning, after either testing positive or showing symptoms. Heres what borisjohnson had to say in a video posted on social media. Ive developed mild symptoms of the coronavirus. That is to say a temperature and a persistent cough. And on the advice of the chief medical officer ive taken a test. That has come out positive. So i am working from home. Im self isolating. And that is entirely the right thing to do. But to be in no doubt that i can continue, thanks to the wizardry of modern technology, to communicate with all my top team, to communicate with all my top team, to lead the national fight against coronavirus. I have also had some mild symptoms of coronavirus. And upon a medical advise i was tested. That test has been positive. I will be self isolating here until next thursday. Fortunately for me, the symptoms are so far have been very mild. I have been able to carry on with the work. Driving forward the uk response. And also being able tojust driving forward the uk response. And also being able to just say a massive thank you to everybody in the nhs working in social care and right across the board on the response. Lets get the reaction now from Boris Johnsons former communications director, gutto harri, and nicola bartlett, who is the mirrors political correspondent. Thank you very much for talking to us. You have worked with very closely with Boris Johnson us. You have worked with very closely with borisjohnson in the past. What was your reaction when you heard of this . Lots of people asking questions about what protections were in place. How easy now going to leave the country . Well, this is one of the best protected people in the world. Holed up protected people in the world. Holed up in protected people in the world. Holed upina protected people in the world. Holed up in a flat above the shop with armed guards outside, yet he cant protect himself with the virus. It shows the indiscriminate nature of it under the threat it poses to all of us. On the other hand we have seen him up and running, we have seen him up and running, we have seen him up and running, we have seen him on camera. Looking as if he has frankly got a hangover. The mild symptoms are something that are unpleasant. But if he has back on his feet in a few days, which seems to be where he is heading, and emerges largely unscathed, then in a way he will have shown that there is a way through this more effectively by show rather than any words. And also, i suppose what people are wondering, and we dont know how severely or how mildly he will be affected, there are days to come of that. Tell us how the machinations will work in terms of communications . At the moment he is well enough to hold conference calls, as is matt hancock. How would it work in terms of making decisions . All he needs to make decisions . All he needs to make decisions is a clear head. As long as that is the case he will continue to be in charge. He will not be passing the baton on to the foreign secretary, the designated survivor, if you like. It is a strange state of affairs. He is like a prisoner in a cell being handed food through a partially closed the door. But technology, the wizardry of modern technology, the wizardry of modern technology, does allow him to talk to virtually anybody. This week already he has been involved in a Cabinet Meeting and a call with world leaders. Who decides whether he has a clear head . Thats a very good question i cant imagine a situation where he is that incapacitated that he cant say so himself. He seemed pretty clear headed yesterday. Thats an interesting question for which there may be some protocols if you think the Prime Minister is literally becoming incapacitated. I dont think we are in this territory at the moment. Nicola, good to speak to you. Nicola bartlett. It is an interesting point. The Prime Minister and the Health Secretary have been up front and personal about these messages about being careful, anybody can catch this. Now they have. Does this in a way help them get that argument across, which is so important . Yes, welll them get that argument across, which is so important . Yes, well i think in normal circumstances you might think that it was a bad thing that they had succumbed to the thing they had been warning about. But i think in the situation that we are in it are those ram home this message that anybody can get this. They have been trying to get that across by having press conferences and Public Health messages etc. But this is a very, very clear. For those people who maybe werent very clear. For those people who maybe we rent taking very clear. For those people who maybe werent taking it seriously la st maybe werent taking it seriously last week, who may be thinking about going out this weekend, the fact that not only the Prime Minister and the Health Secretary, but the chief medical officer is not feeling well as well, that is a big sign to people. And also, it does lead to some questions about what protocol they have been following. They insist they have been doing the social distancing etc. But we did know already through professor neil ferguson, who was at the imperial couege ferguson, who was at the Imperial College doing research for the government, there was a lot of this around in westminster. Some of us who have been going to these press conferences we re who have been going to these press conferences were already thinking, is everybody a bid to close in this room . Its interesting you say that. On the other thought, a lot of people have said what you need right now from government is confident, clear leadership, confidence in the message you are sending out, and now more than ever, i suppose, with the Prime Minister and the Health Secretary testing positive, they will need to see these people, despite obviously, the practical difficulties of how they are going to be living. We still do need to see and hear from them, to be living. We still do need to see and hearfrom them, dont to be living. We still do need to see and hear from them, dont we . think what they have tried to do over the course of the last week, it has only been a week or so of these press conferences, is to introduce other characters, as it were. We have got quite used to seeing professor chris whittys deputy, doctorjenny harries. Professor chris whittys deputy, doctor jenny harries. She professor chris whittys deputy, doctorjenny harries. She is well. And although he is isolating to be safe, he is not very well. The Prime Minister has obviously led on this and the Health Secretary. There are other people in government. A lot of the decisions were made over the la st the decisions were made over the last week. A lot of the really big changes, really big policies on helping people out during this crisis. In a way its better that they succumbed to this now. The next stage is putting those in place. Nicola, sorry to interrupt. I was just looking at the front page of the mirror. Obviously you are the political correspondent. The headline is, nobody is safe. Ijust wonder with borisjohnson headline is, nobody is safe. Ijust wonder with Boris Johnson and headline is, nobody is safe. Ijust wonder with borisjohnson and matt hancock being diagnosed with covid 19, and there being a lot of criticism that the government has had to push back on about whether or not the measures in place now are severe enough, i wonder if we flip the question and say, well, rather than him showing he is fine and he will get through this, i wonder if there is almost some evidence now that tougher measures should be introduced, and here is an example of why . You know, i think thats beena of why . You know, i think thats been a really difficult question to get an answer to. Because we just dont really know at this stage. The government have said throughout they are listening to science. And some of the science has changed due to the evidence. There are signs now that if the social distancing starts to work, and if we continue on the same trajectory as china, actually death will be lower than expected. More like the 5000 mark rather than 20,000. But it does rely on us all doing what we are meant to be doing. It isa doing what we are meant to be doing. It is a bit ofa doing what we are meant to be doing. It is a bit of a difficult narrative to get across. Its imperative everyone takes part. to get across. Its imperative everyone takes part. I suppose what iam everyone takes part. I suppose what i am trying to figure out is how borisjohnson i am trying to figure out is how Boris Johnson can use i am trying to figure out is how borisjohnson can use what has happened now in terms of supporting a change of policy, a more stringent policy, if the demands warrant it . Well, you can play it either way. You can conclude that nothing is stringent enough. Or you can conclude, if he is back on his feet inafew conclude, if he is back on his feet in a few days after the equivalent ofa in a few days after the equivalent of a bad hangover, that this is not such a big deal and it is not worth shutting down the economy for something that you recover from that rapidly. Notwithstanding of course, and that is why that has been critical throughout this, that we have to isolate people who are more vulnerable, who are older, who have got health issues. But if the average person can hole up for a few days largely unscathed, the danger is almost the opposite. People start to think im better off catching this and getting it over and done with. Interesting point. Thank you so much for your time this morning. We will speak another time im sure. Thank you. We have enjoyed some sunshine while we have been able to get out. We have seen a man who ran a marathon in his garden. Some achievement. Brilliant achievement. Dont know what the weather holds this weekend but matt taylor does. Good morning. Good morning. Spring in the airfor some good morning. Good morning. Spring in the air for some during the past week. It will change this weekend. It will not be without it sunshine. Lovely start in fife. Better than it has been in the past few days. But a chill with that. You will notice it even more is more of us sees guys like this as we go through the weekend. Cloud increasing. Even here the cloud will break at times. A lovely rainbow there. A few showers. The big story, whether you have got the sunshine or the cloud, it would be chillier. We are dragging air all the way from greenland and the arctic pushing down towards the north of spain. Out there today, even though there will be some sunshine at times, the best of which will be in southern counties of england, maybe towards the west as well, cloud will gradually increase across many areas. A few rain showers as well across england, wales and Northern Ireland. Showers in scotland could turn to sleet and snow. An indication that area is getting colder. North to north easterly winds start to increase. Temperatures today anywhere between eight and 30 degrees. For many it will feel cold. Wherever you are in the breeze there will be the added chill. Tonight a frost will return to many northern and Western Areas indicated by the blue colours. Cloud amounts vary. Temperatures could be up and down through the night. Avoiding the frost in these eastern areas because of the strength of the breeze. And tonight into tomorrow we step into british summer time. The clocks go forward by an hour. That means tomorrow evening sunset will be a little bit later. Somewhere around half pa st little bit later. Somewhere around half past seven and eight oclock for many. There will be a feel of winter even though it is british summertime. Lots of cloud, some sunny spells coming and going. Some isolated wintry showers. Mostly dry. With the breeze picking up, gale force across parts of england, particularly to the south and east. Temperatures on the thermometers may be between six and 9 degrees. That is about seven to 10 degrees lower than they were during the week. It will feel even colder. Set to feel closer to freezing. If you are spending a brief bit of Time Outdoors in the garden, it will feel chillier. The chilly feel continues into monday. Not as cold on monday. A few showers in eastern areas. In the west temperatures rise as those winds start to ease. For the rest of the week, for those of you who did a bit of home schooling in the garden, maybe not so in the week ahead. It will be cooler for many. Back to you both. Thank you. As nhs staff battle coronavirus on the front line, many of them are continuing to go above and beyond outside of their day to dayjobs too. Lucy duncan was driving home from a 12 hour shift as a nurse, when her car was hit by a man who was struggling to breathe. He told her hed been self isolating, hadnt eaten for a week and thought he had the virus. Lucy called an ambulance and then went to a e with him, where she stayed for five hours. We can speak to her now. Lucy, thank you so much for talking to us this morning. We havejust skimmed the details of the story of what happened. Please, tell us what happened in your words from the beginning . So i was driving home from work. At worked a 12 hour shift. It was my seventh shift in a row. Anyway, i was driving home and a man smashed into my car. Then he drove off following that. I was quite confused. I followed the car. He was at 20 speed off or anything like that. That is probably what confused me. He wasnt trying to speed off. When i got to the car i realised it was an old man. I no longer felt that i was at risk from the public. He opened the car door to me and he reached out to me to say. He grabbed hold of my arm and he said he had the coronavirus. He told me he had been self isolating forup to ten told me he had been self isolating for up to ten days. And he had got in his carto for up to ten days. And he had got in his car to go to the shop. He doesnt have any family or friends. He had gone to the shop to get some essentials. He feared he would die if he didnt do that. This was a 73 year old man. He had self isolated. He was doing the responsible thing. He thought he had of the virus. But he didnt have a support network. Because he had run out of food, he had to go out and get the food and was in no fit state. Once you saw him and he held your arm, what happened next . So, he told me that he thought he had the coronavirus and he apologised to me. Sol coronavirus and he apologised to me. So i gave him reassurance. I had a mask in my car that i hadnt used. I managed to put my mask on and he had a mask on him. He put it on. I spent some time with him. He said he was going to ring an ambulance in the morning and that he would be ok, they wanted to drive off home. But i told him that i was really concerned about him. He was having lucid moments. He was going in and out of consciousness. His breathing was really poor. He had beads of sweat coming down his face. Lucy, have you been able to find out how he is . We are not naming him because of confidentiality concerns and privacy rights. Have you been able to find out how he is . It is in hospital now . Yes, he is in hospital. I managed to get a message to him last night that i was asking about him. And i found out this morning that he passed away in the early hours of the morning. I am so sorry. Ive had a little cry before i came on the show. I understand you had a deal with him that he would make you a cup of coffee to say thank you. Yes. Ive got my cup of coffee here for him. Lucy, i am so sorry. Another person who succumbed to the virus. I dont know if this will offer you any comfort. He had been alone for seven to ten days. You held his hand, you held his arm and you were with him after he had not had any company. You showed him some tenderness that he so obviously needed . Yeah. I know that he was also very fond of me. He was almost very surprised when i kept running back to him and i kept showing up. I had to tell my family i was ok. His eyes lit up every time i went back into the hospital. It was amazing to be part of his life. And you are. However briefly, you are an important part of his life. For a brief moment in time. Nothing is going to make you feel better. As you say, you had a cry this morning, understandably so. But people will have heard what you had to what you did. You put yourself at risk and you almost went back to the very roots of your career, your nursing instincts. Your bosses have made it very clear that they are very proud of you, lucy. Take a look at this clip. She really is the most genuine person. We are also very proud of lucy plasma quick thinking actions. She is everything we could possibly wa nt she is everything we could possibly want from our staff and is a shining example of the true nhs compassion in these difficult times. Our nhs staff go over and above everyday and its great they are getting the recognition they deserve. Well done, lucy, from everyone in the north west and everyone the nhs. Lucy, i can only say, i dont know how you would react, but i can only say that here in the studio we are all in aberration for you and feel for you as well. How are you going to support it . All in admiration of you. So im having to self isolate. My of you. So im having to self isolate. My mum of you. So im having to self isolate. My mum is a nurse as well. She has had to move out of the house and so has my brother. Its a bit difficult at the moment because lam bit difficult at the moment because iamon bit difficult at the moment because lam on my bit difficult at the moment because i am on my own. The first thing i wanted was a hug of my family. I still havent had that hog off anyone. I suppose as a nurse we are strong people. Iwill learn anyone. I suppose as a nurse we are strong people. I will learn to get through it. All the comments i have had have been so overwhelming and lovely, thats. Had have been so overwhelming and lovely, thats. I am had have been so overwhelming and lovely, thats. I am so pleased. You did put this on social media. So many people reacted to it. I know you also said that with this gentleman he had not been in touch with his family and you had given him some reassurance that you had tried to get in touch with his family . Yes, later on in the hospital when his physical health was declining quite a lot, he said, cani was declining quite a lot, he said, can i tell you something . And he whispered into my ear that he has a son. He was from milton keynes. He asked me would i help get in touch with his son. He didnt have a number. Did you manage to . Its something ive not managed to do as of yet. Its quite difficult with confidentiality and obviously the man was really poorly as well. But it is something i am going to try perhaps. Lucy, i cannot imagine how youre feeling. You have given us a good idea of what you have been through, and of course there was a 73 year old gentleman who was a father, friend, and who has touched your heart as well, and i am so sorry for your loss but im grateful you spoke to us today. What i will say, you and your mum as nurses, and all of those who are caring for us, the support for you is immense. Thank you, i really wish you well. Ifi thank you, i really wish you well. If i may, i will say as well, like a lot of people i was listening to that interview, i am sitting here with my cup of coffee and i will raise my cup of coffee. I salute your cup of coffee. Lucy, take care. Look after yourself. Thank you. This is what is happening. Acts of kindness, a very sad ending, but she managed to touch someones life positively in their last few hours. We are going to take a break for a moment. All the headlines in a few minutes. Hello, this is breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Its time for a summary of this mornings main news. The Prime Minister borisjohnson has become the first world leader to test positive for coronavirus. Health secretary matt hancock has also been diagnosed with covid 19, and chief medical officer chris whitty is in isolation after developing symptoms. In a message posted on social media, the Prime Minister described his symptoms as mild and said he will continue to lead the government. Coronavirus testing for front line nhs staff is being rolled out across england this weekend. The checks will start with Critical Care doctors and nurses who display symptoms, and those that live with them. It follows criticism over a lack of testing for Health Workers. Earlier on breakfast, the managing director of boots the chemist explained that pilots had already taken place. There are two kinds of test happening. The most important one is for nhs front line workers, and it means that if somebody falls ill, they can come into one of the drive incentives we have set up and get tested, so the next day they will have a result to know if they do or do not have the coronavirus. If they do not have the coronavirus. If they do not, it is often safe for them to go back to work, and of course that makes a huge difference to the ability of the front line nhs staff to do theirjob. The number of people who have died in the uk after testing positive for the coronavirus has risen to 759. The new figure was announced yesterday, and is the biggest daily increase. There have now been more than 1a,000 confirmed cases. We can speak now to dr mark porter, who works in a surgery in gloucestershire. Good morning. Good to speak to you this morning. Lets kick off with some basics. A gp surgery in normal circumstances is the first port of call if youre unwell. Circumstances are changing, hows it working for you in your practice . It has been an interesting week, charlie. It is difficult, we have been taking a lot of calls from people who are obviously anxious, but behind the scenes we have also been preparing what is coming our way over the next two to three weeks. While im not party to what is happening nationally, i can tell people in my pa rt nationally, i can tell people in my part of the world, the hospitals, gp surgeries, gp Services Community Services Like pharmacies, have been moving heaven and earth over the last two weeks to get us ready for what is going to be happening over the next few weeks. We are as ready as we are going to be. It is not about us in the nhs, it is about the community, we have been bowled over how people have responded, they have used us appropriately, but also volunteers, a patient on friday couldnt get their medicine, she said, dont worry, i put a note under the door i had a note under the door a week ago, and it turned out a family had posted letters to eve ryo ne out a family had posted letters to everyone in the block saying if you have any medicines, we will get them for you. I think that is what is happening across the country, and thatis happening across the country, and that is just as important. Happening across the country, and that isjust as important. On bbc brea kfast, that isjust as important. On bbc breakfast, sometimes we try to take questions people are asking, and the messages, there are no silly questions at this time, because if you are thinking it, you probably need an answer. This one from becky ryan, she says, i understand people with covid 19 are contagious before they show symptoms. How long after they show symptoms. How long after they feel better are they still contagious . Does self isolating me to be longer . That is a good question. If we look at the science, the incubation period is about five or six days, and you start shedding the virus when you cough or sneeze, a day may two days before, so you might be slightly infectious before you develop the symptoms, but you dont know. As for how long the virus stays with you, in some cases weeks, potentially, but we think it is seven days, if you have isolated from seven days from when you started getting symptoms, youre probably safe to go back. That is not definite and it will vary from case to case, but that is the guidance at the moment. It probably happens when you have a case in your house, because if you are living with other people, they may not catch it from you until you are at the end of your infectious period, which is why we have a 1a day period for household contact. There is probably not a Single Person who has not had that feeling of, i have a sniffle, i have coughed, is this a sign . Sniffle, i have coughed, is this a sign . Never a bad sniffle, i have coughed, is this a sign . Nevera bad time sniffle, i have coughed, is this a sign . Never a bad time to remind people of the significant signs you need to be looking out for. This is one of the problems, because coughs and colds are common at this time of year, so most people, we dont know whether they have covid 19 or not, because we are not testing them. That is a problem with nhs staff, we have lost about 20 of our team because either they have symptoms or someone in their family does, so they are quarantined. The main symptoms are fever and the dry and persistent cough. In some cases we are seeing loss of sense of smell, conjunctivitis, but we dont know whether they are definitely covid 19 or not, but we are seeing this picture. Another symptom is people with minor symptoms but feeling like they have been washed out and having to ta ke they have been washed out and having to take to their bed, so it varies from person to person. If in doubt, you have to follow the guidance and stop the spreading. Susan has been in touch saying she has type two diabetes, why am i more at risk . As a general rule, the vulnerable groups, as you know, are older people, the threshold is 70, but the older you are the greater you are at risk, it doesnt suddenly start at 70. Then there are people who have diabetes, or asthma, they are now more likely to catch the virus but they may suffer complications. People who have conditions such as asthma or diabetes, the relevant charities have on their websites fantastic information about what is regarded as severe asthma, for instance, or whether you should be shielding or taking the same precautions as the rest of us. Lots of information, and we would ask people rather than pick up the phone, although we understand why they are picking up the phone to ask me questions, please use these resources that are there, so we can keep our phones free for people we need to speak to. If you cannot find the information and youre worried and think you are vulnerable, then we are there to talk you, but if you have internet access, please do a little bit of research, use the resources , little bit of research, use the resources, they are very good. How frustrating is it for medical professionals, some of the things that are knocking around that people are talking about, some of the 7 are talking about, some of the myths . It is very frustrating. We should be listening to the experts, andi should be listening to the experts, and i am afraid everyone is an expert at the moment. People should stick to what they know. I would ignore a lot of the rubbish. Choose the people you listen to very carefully a nd the people you listen to very carefully and follow what they say. Doctor mark porter, good to talk to you, we will speak again, i am sure. Thank you very much. Now, time to talk to cat, some inventive ways to make sure we can enjoy some competition. Yes, we may be watching virtual sports. No big events at the moment, the olympics was the big one being postponed until next year, and there has been a stark warning. You can practise your skills, get your parents to help you. And the parents, i know how hard this is on you. It was down in horsham last week and a father was saying that he had to tell his son that rugby training is no longer on. So its a difficult time, but keep positive, because we will get out of this, we will beat this virus, and rugby will commence. Keep your spirits up. Whether it be yoga on youtube or lunges in the living room many of us have had to find new ways of staying active as our gyms and leisure centres close because of the coronavirus outbreak. Now, to help us all out, Sport England have launched a campaign to showcase new exercises and encourage others tojoin in. Strictlys karen hauer and athlete Greg Rutherford have been supporting the campaign and bothjoin us now. Good morning to you both. Thank you for to us this morning talking to us this morning. Karen, i will come to you first. You are a dancer, movement, flexibility is so important to you in what you do. What have you been doing to keep moving and how important is it to you and your Mental Health to be able to exercise your body . M you and your Mental Health to be able to exercise your body . It is extremely important, definitely at these times, to encourage everyone to get moving around. I have been working hard at home and trying to stay busy as much as i can for my own mental well being, and obviously physically. But we are trying to encourage everybody, and this is why i the encourage everybody, and this is why i the campaign is brilliant because we are trying to encourage people to get active at home. It gets you fit mentally and physically. We are watching pictures of you doing a bit of the charleston swivel, i think that is. Dance is pretty good because you can do it in quite a confined space . Absolutely. These workouts, you can do in the comfort of your home or garden, and i havejoined comfort of your home or garden, and i have joined forces with my friend oti mabuse and her husband and my partner david, and they do classes for kids at home online. There are so many activities you can do to stay active, from the comfort of your home. We love to see what people are doing and for people to record themselves dancing or working out, and sharing their experiences online. The hashtag is stay in and work out. Greg, used to work further than eight metres, which is longer than eight metres, which is longer than most peoples houses, but you have kids at home as well, what have you been doing . I would suggest not running ina you been doing . I would suggest not running in a Straight Line under jumping. There are lots of things to do, circuit training is very popular, all different ways of moving. With the kids as well, they are now running in. With the children as well, trying to keep them active and busy is obviously hugely important. Just making fun. Yes, mate, thank you i hugely important. Just making fun. Yes, mate, thank you lam hugely important. Just making fun. Yes, mate, thank you i am sorry. Hugely important. Just making fun. Yes, mate, thank you lam sorry. It is important to keep it as fun as you possibly can because when they are enjoying that they are going to do more and keep themselves active. 0k, thank you. I am do more and keep themselves active. 0k, thank you. Lam sorry do more and keep themselves active. 0k, thank you. I am sorry that is the really big thing, if you can keep it fun for them they are going to have a great time, they will keep moving around. Teachers probably deserve some form of honour from the queen at this point because they are absolutely amazing with what they do. But keeping it fun, keeping them active as a brilliantly to enjoy what is a very difficult time for everybody. There will be thousands of people around the country identifying with you right now, your children literally bouncing off the furniture but this weather has been very good, lots of people flocking outside, lots of criticism about people going out to ride their bikes, not maintaining that social distance. What is your advice, karen, for making sure people are adhering to the social distance rules but still exercising . It is very important that we follow the government guidelines and be aware, whether you can work out at home, thatis whether you can work out at home, that is great, or the garden, but if you go for a bike ride, make sure youre keeping the distance and you are aware of staying healthy and keeping everyone else healthy as well. It is important to be physically active and go out there to help yourself, but at the same time you have to be aware of what is going on and you have to stay safe. Karen, i have to ask you before i hand back to the studio, we have seen so many massive events being cancelled across the world this week. Please tell us that strictly come dancing is not cancelled . We are going day by day as well here. Fingers crossed this show will go on hopefully, but again for us, we are all in it together, and we are just waiting to see, again, day by day, and hopefully it will go on. We all need that little bit of strictly come dancing magic that we all love, so im hoping for the best as well. We need the sequins. Greg, are you there . Lets have a look. I want to know, that looked like. What are the childrens names, and they look like they were a sofajumping. Is names, and they look like they were a sofa jumping. Is there a record in the rutherford house . A sofa jumping. Is there a record in the rutherford house . a sofa jumping. Is there a record in the rutherford house . I went up to the rutherford house . I went up to the bedroom, thought i would be safe, but clearly not. So it was on the bed. They constantlyjump about, ido the bed. They constantlyjump about, i do apologise. It is constant in this house. I have got to ask, we have been having conversations with kat about the trauma of home schooling, how was it going for you . I wouldnt have put you as the most patient of home schoolers, but prove me wrong it has been challenging at times. The one thing i have been finding with the children as they are constantly wanting to eat, it seems, they have got out of school and they want to eat constantly, so trying to teach them at the same time. I have no idea, so i tried to give them some times tables, then realise it is too much to them too soon and everything, so we are basically trying to let them lead a lot of what they do. If they show interest, we go with it and have some fun with it, but it is most certainly challenging, as you can see, they are constantly bouncing. But we are having a good time. Good luck, and karen, it is lovely hearing your words, when they at a time, good luck to you both. Kat, some hints for home schooling. Luck to you both. Kat, some hints for homeschooling. Sounds like you just feed them sugar and let them bounce. I will follow the Greg Rutherford method. Did you see the little one in the dressing gown look like a little teddy bear jumping around. The important thing today as it is saturday, no more home schooling today. Lets see what we can expect with the weather. There will still be some sunshine around, as this morning in cornwall, but at times expect a bit more of this, more cloud around, and when the breeze is blowing you will notice the chill. Temperatures will drop, almost like we have taken a step from late spring back to winter for this weekend. A lot of dry weather around, but some showers, we have seen a few move from scotland into the north of england. A mixture of sleet and snow across the north of scotland, an indication the area is getting colder. There will be some sunshine around for most of us, mainly on the Southern Coast in the north of scotland. Temperatures 12 or 13 at the south coast but it will feel chillier. Tonight, the breeze is still blowing, and temperatures will drop below freezing to take us into the morning. Tonight, it is time to put your clocks forward. They go forward one hour at 1am, which means tomorrow sunrise will be a little bit later, but it also means there will be longer, lighter evenings. Sunset across many parts between 7 30pm and 8pm. You can check your sunrise and sunset times on the bbc weather app. There will be plenty of cloud in place, some sunshine every now and again, with some isolated wintry showers. A strong wind tonight and tomorrow, particularly across england and where is, you could see wind touch a050 where is, you could see wind touch a0 50 mph at times. The thermometers may say 6 9d, it is not going to feel like that if you Step Outdoors for any length of time. Probably feeling closer to freezing down those eastern counties of england. While it is not going to be as cold on monday, some isolated showers in some areas will see some sunshine as well. Still on the chilly side. Thank you. As many of us do all we can to support the elderly or vulnerable who are isolating at home, theres a warning today that some criminals are trying to exploit the crisis with a series of new scams. Action fraud say more than £1 million has been lost to covid 19 related scams since early last month. Breakfasts john maguire has been finding out more. While most are trying to do the right thing, some are hell bent on doing the wrong thing, taking advantage of people when they are at their most vulnerable, using cons and scams. These days, often online, where its easier to hide behind a digital mask. So sorry to hear what happened. Run us through it. We spoke to a young woman who was caught out by a scammer masquerading as her genuine leasing agent, asking for money early because of coronavirus. She lost £1,500. She does not want to be identified. Ijust feel i have been manipulated and exploited because they have really played on my emotions by saying i would be helping someone out during this really difficult time. I was trying to be a good person and do a good thing by doing this. I just feel sick and annoyed and angry. I just dont want this to happen to anyone else. Action fraud is run by the city of london police, urging people to report cybercrime and fraud. This month, it has seen more than 280 cases related to the virus at a cost of more than £1. 1 million. But the crimes are under reported. Wherever you have got something that is in the public consciousness like this, we tend to see fraudsters using that as a hook. We saw it, for example, during the olympics. And they are very adept at doing so, so the sort of things we have seen are e mails purporting to be from health organisations, offering information about the virus. We have seen e mails purporting to be from charities, requesting donations. And we have seen some from purporting to be from government organisations as well, requesting information. This is what is happening so called phishing e mails. Unsolicited, they look genuine, but ask for personal orfinancial details. Fake products for sale at the moment, of course, face masks or hand sanitiser. Phone calls, again, trying to hack into your bank details. And distraction burglary targeting the elderly, tricking their way into homes by pretending to be Health Workers. Trading standards teams are in the front line, fighting the good fight against a particularly cruel crime. If theres any doubt, if something sounds too good to be true, then it usually is. So its ok to stop and to pause and to then put the phone down or to reflect on the e mail and to ask trusted friend or a neighbour what they think. Legitimate traders will not rush you into making a decision, especially in the current climate. They will not. But, of course, these scams are often very sophisticated. Theyre conducted by confidence tricksters. So at a time when our confidence is low, they go on the hunt. John maguire, bbc news. Frightening for so many people. We can talk more about this and find out some more of the scams from commander karen baxter, the National Coordinator for economic crime. She joins us from belfast. Thank you so much forjoining us this morning. The problem is, lots of people are self isolating who perhaps are not being able to feel as if they can bounce ideas of someone and feeling vulnerable, what is your advice to them, because obviously the scammers are preying on them . Youre absolutely right, criminals will take every opportunity in this National Crisis to exploit fear and anxiety, and the very fa ct to exploit fear and anxiety, and the very fact we have people self isolating, socially distancing themselves from others, they will use that to take their money. So the advice that was given there was to stop, and if you find yourself at the end of a phone call or you see an e mail that you dont recognise area an e mail that you dont recognise are a phone call from someone you do not know, set the phone down, speak to someone you trust, take five minutes, set down the phone, have a conversation with someone you know and trust, then make your decision. Nobody in this day, when we are all having challenges will be forced to make a decision immediately. having challenges will be forced to make a decision immediately. I think we all have a desire to please, but put the phone down if in any doubt, or shut the door, and speak to someone you know. What kind of scams are emerging as we deal with these measures . The first thing i want to endorse the point you made there, that at the moment, i think in this country at times we are very polite, and we dont want to offend people, but these are criminals, do not be polite, be very blunt. The other thing is by keeping yourself first and foremost say. What we have found in recent weeks, we had 21 covid 19 scams in february, and 280 in march up scams in february, and 280 in march up untilafew scams in february, and 280 in march up until a few days ago. In the early days, we found criminals were selling flights to people who were desperate to get home, a lot of Online Shopping scams, for example hand sanitiser, masks, protective equipment. Also last weekend we arrested someone for bogus treatment packages. And they were being sent all round the world. We found in those packages that they were harmful chemicals, so there are a number of scams very bespoke to covid 19. What we would expect in the future is that Going Forward there will be a lot of financial anxiety, again people isolating and on their own. We would suspect you might see things like investment scams, people giving tour trading advice and getting people to hand over money. Thanks very much for talking to us. Karen certainly knows what she is saying. Key advice, if in doubt, put the phone buy in or close the door, youre not being rude, are protecting yourself. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Good morning, welcome to breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Our headlines today coronavirus reaches the heart of government, as the Prime Minister and Health Secretary test positive for covid 19. The men say their symptoms are mild and they will continue to work from home. As the number of people known to have died in the uk passes 700, widespread testing will be rolled out this weekend to see which nhs staff have contracted the virus. And in weather, while most of you will stay dry this weekend it is getting cloudier, it is getting windier and you will notice it will feel colder too. All the details on brea kfast. Its saturday 28th march. Our top story. Borisjohnson has become the first world leader to test positive for coronavirus. Health secretary matt hancock has also been diagnosed with covid 19, and chief medical officer chris whitty is in isolation after developing symptoms. There are still many questions about the virus coming in from you well talk to experts this morning on breakfast. Speaking to jason leech, the National Clinical director for the scottish government, in about ten minutes. Also finding it more about the roll out of some testing for nhs front line staff. Were out getting exercise while we can. How are walkers, joggers and cyclists managing social distancing . First, andy moore has the latest. The governments chief medical officer hasnt tested positive, but professor chris whitty said he had symptoms compatible with covid 19. The nhs is already treating over 6,000 coronavirus patients and thousands more are expected in the coming weeks at new hospitals like this one at the excel centre in london. Health workers have also been calling repeatedly for better personal Protection Equipment. The government has changed its guidance to recommend the wearing of equipment for high risk procedures that might generate droplets. But the Hospital Doctors Union says it doesnt go far enough. They want all staff and patients in hospitals to have access to surgical masks whether they have the virus or not. Good morning. Coronavirus is at the heart of government and ministers. How will this affect how the Prime Minister and matt hancock deals with the measures Going Forward . Well, downing street says that Boris Johnson is still very much leading the government response to coronavirus. How can you do that from isolation . Well, if you think about where he is isolating, it is in downing street. When you look at those buildings it is notjust the Prime Ministers ro home, which he will be staying in for the next seven days, with the rest of the building isa seven days, with the rest of the building is a functioning government building. There are things like secure phone lines, so he can keep making calls to world leaders. We saw he spoke to President Donald Trump last night. There is also what he refers to as the wizardry of modern technology. There can be things like meetings over video calls. We saw government moving towards that earlier this week. The Cabinet Meeting was held over a video call. When it comes to things where the Prime Minister has been appearing in person, those press briefings, for example, what other cabinet ministers can do is step in. We have already seen that. The Prime Minister has not let every single one. It hasnt been the chief medical officer that we have seen in every one of those either. Increasingly we have seen more of his deputy, dexterjenny harries. There are people who can step up. It does depend on the Prime Minister staying well enough, his symptoms are staying mild to be able to make those sorts of decisions. If his condition were to worse there is a back up plan. That would be for the foreign secretary, dominic raab, to step in temporarily. Helen, thank you. We are going to be talking to andy burnham shortly. We will find out how hes reacting. There is a new hospital facility opening in manchester as well. Lots to talk to him about, the mayor of greater manchester. The number of people who have died in the uk after testing positive for the coronavirus has risen to 759. The new figure was announced yesterday, and is the biggest daily increase. There have now been more than 1a,000 confirmed cases. Coronavirus testing for frontline nhs staff will be rolled out in england this weekend. The checks will start with Critical Care doctors and nurses who display symptoms, and those that live with them. It follows criticism of the government over a lack of testing for Health Workers. Earlier on breakfast, the managing director of boots the chemist, explained that pilots had already taken place. And the way it works is that the nhs workers will receive a kit. The way we did it was the nhs workers receive a kit, they come to one of our test centres, one of our volunteers will swab their nose and throat, that the test is sent to a laboratory for overnight testing. Six to 800 a day. We will be rolling out by the end of this weekend. Then we will respond quickly as boots to whatever request the nhs make of us. My sense is that there will be quite a good demand for a large number of these to be rolled out at the time. The first of several planned temporary hospitals is set to go online next week at the excel london Exhibition Centre. Angus crawford is there for us now. Angus, give us a sense of the scale of the logistics of what is happening . I mean, its absolutely extraordinary, this enormous barn of a building may be, the single biggest hospital in the country, possibly in europe. At the moment they are talking about creating a 500 beds here to be ready to go next week, each with ventilators and oxygen. They say should they they needed they can escalate this to make it a a000 bed unit inside. Why here . Why now . The truth is that actually london has become the epicentre of the uk outbreak. More than a third of all cases are here, Something Like a0,000 four and a half thousand. There is concern that the Critical Care bed capacity in london may be overwhelmed as soon as next week. That is why this is so important. Also the nhs nightingale, as this is being called, they are practising already with the ambulance two, this has become a model for what is happening at the rest of the country. As you said before, the nec in birmingham expects to open as a 5000 bed unit in the middle of april. The g makes in manchester, a 1000 bed unit. The principality stadium in cardiff, the whole of welsh rugby, is likely to open the same time, again with 2000 beds. We think the accc in glasgow may also become one of these units. But how are you going to staff these units . We know in london at the moment there was a vacancy rate, a large vacancy rate, before the crisis. And because of sickness and ill health, there is now an even greater number of staff off. That is a big question. Big calls going out to move staff in here, hoping they will begin to help patients in the middle of next week. Thank you. As the impact of the coronavirus pandemic touches all our lives, so too has it reached the highest levels of government. As weve been hearing, the Prime Minister and his Health Secretary have both confirmed they have tested positive two of more than 1a,500 cases here. The realfigure, however, is expected to be multiple times higher. Lets speak now to the mayor of greater manchester, andy burnham, who joins us from wigan. Andy burnham, thank you very much for your time this morning. We will come onto the wider issues in a moment. These are two men you know well. The Prime Minister and the Health Secretary. Obviously that announcement made yesterday concern not only for the health, obviously ona not only for the health, obviously on a personal note, but how things will work out practically. Give us your thoughts . Yeah, of course. I wish them both well. And a speedy recovery. And thank them for what they have been doing. We all need to get back to good health, full health, and obviously continue to fight against this virus. From my point of view, i think what this brings into sharp focus is the whole question of workplaces, and are we doing enough to keep people safe in workplaces . The virus is doubling every two to three days. What is going on in some of her workplaces is contributing to that. Those questions were indeed asked yesterday. Michael gove took those questions about how it was that this could have happened in the first place. In a way you could say it has happened so we move on quickly. But i suppose it possibly helps emphasise the message about what we should and should not be doing . think it does. Ive been in westminster, i understand how it works. Its very hard because of the nature of that place. Its different anyway, isnt it . Im talking really though about the policy in workplaces across the country. I received over 300 complaints when i put the call out for people to report what they thought was wrong. That name to 150 companies. Some of them had a good reason to be open but not all of them by any means. And it would seem that some are nowhere near observing the safe distancing and rules laid down by Public Health england. I would like to see a stronger policy on workplaces now. We are about to hit the critical phase of this, charlie, and we shouldnt be allowing this virus to spread unnecessarily. Andy burnham, you are the mayor of greater manchester. We were out the excel centre in london as it is being transformed. We know that manchester is also going to have a hospital built there, which wasnt there previously. Tell us a little bit about the logistics and the planning around that . People know the site, i think. It is the old Railway Station that was converted into a concert venue many years ago, and now a conference centre. It is going to be converted into a thousand hospitals beds. It will be for more medium level care. It is well located in the heart of the city, right by the tram system. Of course, this is being done nationally. We are providing support as well. We hope it will not be needed. But it whip may well be needed. But it whip may well be needed. That is why it is absolutely right to put this facility in place. Iam hearing right to put this facility in place. I am hearing this weekend of the nhs is coping what is under severe strain. Iam is coping what is under severe strain. I am still here distress signals coming out of the nhs around lack of masks, gloves and protective equipment. I think we need to do more on that front to protect people. But if we are honest now, the nhs is about to hit the hardest pa rt the nhs is about to hit the hardest part of this. That is why the message has to be heard this weekend. People must stay at home. We uploaded those wonderful nhs workers on thursday night. Well, lets do more than just upload them, lets do more than just upload them, lets listen to them. One of the questions being asked at the moment is about intensive care beds. The emphasis to a degree has been on london. We know there is particular pressure. What is the situation that you see in and around this area . Its a major question. Ten years ago i was dealing with swine flu. Admittedly it was nowhere near on the scale of this pandemic. But it was still a difficult moment for the country. And i remember working hard to try to find extra intensive care capacity. It is always going to be a tough question in these times. I was pleased to see the deal that was done with the private sector. Obviously there is extra capacity there. But i think london is getting very close to reaching its limit with regards to intensive care capacity. And other parts of the country wont be far behind. I support the government in their effo rts support the government in their efforts to get companies to manufacture more ventilators. That is obviously crucial. But the way we can all help the nhs to cope is to listen to the advice to stay at home. Andy burnham, thank you very much. The mayor of manchester. Apologies for a little bit of fall out on the skype line. It will happen every once in awhile. Thank you very much. Considering we dont have guests in the studio now, and there used to be a time we would say, no, it is a skype interview, its not going to work. We have done marvellously well considering how many down the line interviews we have done. And a big thank you to everyone. It requires their cooperation to set things up. Technology is a good thing. We can talk now to profess jason leech, the National Clinical director for the scottish government. Hejoins National Clinical director for the scottish government. He joins us from glasgow. Thank you very much for joining from glasgow. Thank you very much forjoining us. From glasgow. Thank you very much for joining us. Thank from glasgow. Thank you very much forjoining us. Thank you for taking the time as well. Dealing with technology in your home, thank you. Iam technology in your home, thank you. I am getting a bit used to it. I didnt think id have to but i am you are doing very well. Thank you very much. Andy burnham was talking about the pressure for the nhs. Reaching a critical time. Before we go into things, lots of details we have had today about testing, before we go into that from your position give us a snapshot of where you think we are at . Well, i dont think its an exaggeration to say, as mr burnham did, that this is the greatest Health Challenge of our time. It sounds hyperbolic and exaggerated but it genuinely is. So i have been astonishingly impressed by both the public response and in particular the caring response from the Health Service and the social ca re the Health Service and the social care environment. So you can see across all four uk countries that have the deaths are rising, and that is such a horrid thing to have to say, and none of us in these positions in the governments and the Health Service want to see that. But everything we are doing is to try to reduce that number. This weekend it is sunny in glasgow, would you believe . I can see the sun outside my window. I have to admit i wanted it to rain today because i want people at all costs to stay at home as much as they can. I dont want people to be tempted to go outside or gather in groups, or visit their family outside their house. It is no exaggeration to say that this week across the four countries people have saved lives by following the rules. I have watched the press conferences rules. I have watched the press co nfe re nces every rules. I have watched the press conferences every day, i think they are getting record viewing. I think it is part of are daily life now. Our daily life. When the medical officers were being asked about the peak, they have said it is not something they are going to be drawn into, to predict. But many people will be hearing the uk numbers at the moment, and there has been lots of talk about which curve we are following, which country we are following, which country we are following, being compared to italy and whether the curve is going to flatten or get steeper. We have had the largest rise in the number of deaths reported in the last 2a hours. What can be said to people to reassure them . Or, as you have alluded to because you wanted to in glasgow, are they not doing enough . We are doing two things. We are doing intervention is what we are also doing them at the best time for the population. So we know from around the world, and we have friends and colleagues, people shouldnt doubt we are talking to the italians and the south koreans mind we are talking to those in wuhan city. We have as much knowledge as we can get from those other countries. When you intervene ina other countries. When you intervene in a population at this scale, unprecedented, it takes about two weeks, two to three weeks, for that intervention you have made to show itself in the numbers. So the date would be. . When are we saying we started, last monday . Well, we did some things before that, if you remember. We stopped some gatherings the week before. We stopped other things. But the real, if you forgive the expression, lockdown measures we re the expression, lockdown measures were last monday. So we will expect to see, if people do what we have said they should do, and none of this is like a light switch, it is not binary, yes or no, it is our Scientific Evidence that in a couple of weeks, three weeks, we will start to see that peak, because it will be reduced by the things we have done in our society, if people stay at home. Then what happens, jason leech . Because we hit the peak, we know there is going to be a peak. People sit at home and say, ok, we abided by the rules, the new measures. What happens after that . Do they stay in place so they can level out, and for how long . Because if then people come back, surely the implication is that we are exposed ain . Implication is that we are exposed again . It is not like a cliff edge. It is not a case of reaching the peak ona it is not a case of reaching the peak on a tuesday, everybody can go to the pub on a wednesday. That is not how it is going to be. If you imagine the curve on the way in, we are also going to have a curve on the way out. Again we are learning from other countries. You can see in hong kong, for example, where they have released quite a lot of the measures. They have now got a new cases. The numbers are beginning to rise. We have to be very, very careful to follow the science on the way out, as we have on the way in. A lot of this is new for the world. A third of the world is in its house. I cant believe i am saying that. Six weeks ago i wouldnt have believed that you have been true. We have to follow the science on the way out as we followed on the way in. You can imagine there might be some variation on how we do that once we get the numbers and see how the virus is behaving. But two things will change the game. Very quickly. One thing is the Antibody Test to tell us if people have had it and recovered. Nowhere in the world has that test yet. That is being developed all over the world. And the second game changer will be a vaccine. We are hoping by the end of the year, the beginning of next year, we will have a vaccine for the world. That is not as simple as it sounds. That is 6 billion people. World. That is not as simple as it sounds. That is 6 billion peoplem you have had of the symptoms. When it comes to the medical science, so to speak, if you have the symptoms, you have had coronavirus, is it that simple . It is not quite as simple as that, although the seasonal flu is pretty much gone. We have tests all over the country, all four uk countries, to measure seasonalflu. We know it is pretty much over. There is hardly anybody getting seasonal flu. If you there is hardly anybody getting seasonalflu. If you get there is hardly anybody getting seasonal flu. If you get the symptoms we are describing, the calf and the fever, it is very likely now in britain that you have coronavirus. That is why we are doing the seven days, stay at home. Because even if we found out you had coronavirus, it wouldnt help us treat you because most people recover, most people have mild symptoms. The test we want is subsequently, have you had it . If took blood from you just now, i could tell if you had had chickenpox. Even if you were three yea rs chickenpox. Even if you were three years old. That is the test we need for coronavirus. Jason, seeing the Prime Minister and matt hancock, prince charles, having covid 19. Do you think there is almost an attitude, there is almost this fear, you dont want to get it, dont get it, dont get it. If youve had it, to some extent there is an immunity and you survive it. Many people are not, many people are. Its done and you have got some immunity. What would you say to that attitude . Yeah. Idid would you say to that attitude . Yeah. I did a phone in on Scottish Television earlier in the week and there was a lovely 71 lady who said if she got it she would come at her and her husband would go through it together, they would both get it and live through it. The difficulty with thatis, live through it. The difficulty with that is, its very likely that a 271 year olds will do well, be a bit poorly for a few days and live out the other end happily immune. The difficulty with that advice is i cant tell which 71 year olds will be really sick. I cant even tell which 35 year old will be really sick. It is much less likely in a 35 year old. But it still can cause serious illness in the young. So the population advice has to be the same. We do not want people to get this virus. We want people, over time, we want to manage the virus so the Health Service can manage those who are sick, because the last thing we wa nt who are sick, because the last thing we want is the Health Services to struggle both with coronavirus cases, but remember, also, with everything else. People are still having heart attacks and strokes. We need them to be looked after by the Health Service as well. Very quick word, jason. We spoke to the head of boots chemist today. They are rolling out these drive in testing facilities. 600 to 800 people can be tested. Is that going to be happening in scotland . How easy is it to implement . It is. It will happen in all four countries. There has been quite a lot of interesting tests this week. People have to remember that testing is not as simple as twitter would suggest. You need kit, you need places to do it and you need the people to do it. The laboratories to do it. It is a complex journey. And we are, as four countries, trying to do that together, and that will help us. We have got about 7 of our workforce in scotland who are self isolating in health and social careful stop we need them back. Actually the heroes of those are in the Community Pharmacies you have just described, in boots and others. We need them back as fast as we can. We are desperate for those tests to be rolled out and we need that testing to be increased, so we are doing everything we can to make that happen. Jason, you are one of the clear voices that we managed to get on this programme. You speak with clarity and obviously we can understand what you are saying. You laid out really well. I appreciate you coming on the programme. You are very kind. No, i absolutely minute. Jason leech, the National Clinical directorfor jason leech, the National Clinical director for the scottish comet. Definitely part of what we try to do is speak to clinicians, scientists, because they are the voices that people most want to hear. We spoke to that doctor earlier, who said, dont listen to the noise, just listen to the experts as much as you can. So at 9 26am on a saturday morning, here is the weather. Good morning. A colder weekend in store. While many have seen sunshine in recent days, these guys are going to bea in recent days, these guys are going to be a bit like this at times. It is going to turn colder. High pressure to the west. Winds flying clockwise around that. We are dragging the airfrom greenland and the arctic. Through today, a chilly breeze developing. It will pick up through the day. A bit more cloud in that breeze. A few showers drifting through northern rings, north wales, the midlands. The ones in scotland will turn to sleet and snow at times as temperatures drop. There will be some sunshine around. Not a lot of sunshine. The best in southern counties of england and perhaps the north east of scotland. The west of Northern Ireland as well. The wind coming in from a north easterly direction. That will drop temperatures. The afternoon may hit 13 celsius on the south coast. The breeze will make it feel like that. Three to five celsius in northern scotland. Some showers tonight. Cloud amounts vary. Temperatures could be up and down. This temperature chart gives you an idea that things will be on the chilly side. Northern and Western Areas will see a frost into tomorrow morning. Many of us are struggling to think what day it is, another thing to add to your you have to put the clocks forward tomorrow it means a slightly later sunrise but also slightly later at sunset. As we go into tomorrow, it will be a chillier and windy day, plenty of cloud rent. Still some sunshine. Probably the sunniest in central and eastern parts of england. Some showers wintry in nature. With the winds touch and go force in places it is going to be a cold day. Temperatures only in single figures for many. The wind chill will make it feel closer to freezing. If you are doing some exercise in the garden, a few extra layers will certainly be needed. Until you work hard enough to take them off again. There is that, yes. This is breakfast. Were on bbc one until ten oclock this morning, when matt takes over in the saturday kitchen. Good morning. How is your social and physical distance and going . It is going quite well here, actually. Good to see you guys. How excited are we that we have got an extra hourin are we that we have got an extra hour in bed tomorrow . One less hour in bed, is it . Whatever, im confused we are following government guidelines here. We have got some recipes we are hoping you can rustle up at home. We have also got a very special guest on a live link who is still very likely to cause some trouble. It is the return of the great liz carr. Good morning. Liz, i know this is a casual show, but will you be getting dressed for it . i like to think of it as the lockdown sheep. I havent bothered to do my hair. I am just wearing a dressing gown. It is one of the advantages. You have to make the most of it. National tv and all that, dont let that bother you we are opening your store cupboard, arent we . Yes, you are. That sounds arent we . Yes, you are. That sounds a bit rude it has started already. What have we got in your store cupboard . Well, we have a very prized nostalgic comfort food, a tin of beans and sausage. Then you have aspirational food, like peppers i bought. I never buy peppers. I sort of thought, well, in isolation maybe i will Start Cooking with peppers. And a courgette, but that isjust for comedy purposes. You have got your very own version of the chefs table. We also have two chefs keeping their distance. table. We also have two chefs keeping their distance. I am doing smoked mackerel pate. Treacle soda bread and beetroot salad. smoked mackerel pate. Treacle soda bread and beetroot salad. I have just realised im shouting, sorry about that, i feel the just realised im shouting, sorry about that, ifeel the need just realised im shouting, sorry about that, i feel the need to shout. Jason atherton, nice to have you. We are doing a super simple salmon dish, roasting on one side and poaching in a little water, served with crushed jersey royals. These are all ingredients we hope you will be able to get hold of it home, all the recipes have been simplified, and you can swap things. Lots of alternatives to look out for. Helen, how are you . Im very well, how are you . All right, we are missing you in the studio. I see you have a glass in front of you already. Yes, always prepared. Do you have some decent wines . Yes, we have some really nice things, and ones that you can find wherever you are shopping. I have some nice pasta dishes as well. See you later. Are we allowed to bring forward the time when we can start having a sneaky drink . Why would you ask . Yes, we can breakfast wine, there are literally no rules at the moment apart from social distancing. But drink responsibly, obviously, that is what i always say. Everything in moderation, including moderation. think it is going to be a lively morning it is, that looks hilarious. Have a good programme. Headlines are coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty. Time now for a summary of this mornings main news. It is just after half past nine. Earlier on breakfast, the managing director of boots the chemist explained that pilots had already taken place over the past few days. Yes, there are two kinds of test happening, the second is happening later. The first one is a test for nhs front line workers, and it means that if someone falls ill, they can come in to one of the drive in centres we have set up and get tested, so that the very next day they will have a result to know if they will have a result to know if they do or dont have coronavirus. If they do not, it is oven safe for them to go back to work, and that makes a huge difference to the ability of the front line nhs staff to do theirjob. A lot of people are interested in how this works in practice. He says each of those centres can test 600 to 800 people today, these are nhs staff. They have been given the kits before, then it is a drive through operation and they will get the result 2a hours later. Each of the centres result 2a hours later. Each of the ce ntres ca n result 2a hours later. Each of the centres can do 600 to 800 a day in these initial phases. It is all going to help. We might not be able to watch new sport, some people are watching all the matches without looking at the result beforehand. Yes, there is this thing where people are watching older football matches. I could definitely watch a few more grand slam tennis finals again or some us masters are the ryder cup. We have a new sporting occasion coming upfor we have a new sporting occasion coming up for you to enjoy later, but im going to start with testing of coronavirus. But in sport, testing has been reduced. The president of the World Anti Doping Agency has warned athletes they will be caught if they try to take advantage of reduced testing during the coronavirus pandemic. Russia has announced it is halting all testing while the country copes with the virus russian athletes are currently banned from competing at International Events due to doping infringements. Now, theres very little live sport at the moment, but one of the years biggest events will be taking place albeit via a computer. A Virtual Grand National will be televised next weekend, with forty runners set to take part. The race will use cgi technology and special algorithms to determine the winner. So, when the grand national was supposed to be run next weekend, which has been cancelled, we will still be able to watch a0 horses going over the famous fences. Among yourfamilies going over the famous fences. Among your families and friends, get together on Video Conferencing or whatever you can, watch it and have a flattered and pretend it is the real thing. Sounds like something well need at the moment, you think . Labour hire have been working on a joke all morning. You cold the technology cgi technology, for the grand national isnt it gg i for horses . I have been thinking of that joke for three hours. And that was your reaction. Its saturday morning, and many people will be wondering if they can safely go outside for a run or to cycle, as they might normally do at the weekend. But a crackdown on social distancing saw cycling suspended in londons richmond park, because people were not staying far enough apart. Yesterday, the government issued advice to stay local and use open spaces near your home. We can speak now to the runner jo pavey, and cyclist Chris Boardman who can help us understand how to enjoy our activities safely. Charlie, we had this conversation, you being a cyclist and me being a runner, about who is more considerate on the road. It is about everyone thinking harder about what they do. Chris, do you wa nt to about what they do. Chris, do you want to start, how are you playing it yourself at the moment, are you going outside . How are you playing at . I was waiting for a link to come on for the programme, at . I was waiting for a link to come on forthe programme, but at . I was waiting for a link to come on for the programme, but the silent gap after yourjoke was so long that i thought the link had gone down laughter i work on transport and the sporting side as well, bicycles are weird things, a form of entertainment also for kids, the message is very clear. Stay at home. Exercise is part of being able to stay at home. Medical office rs have being able to stay at home. Medical officers have emphasised this is a pa rt of officers have emphasised this is a part of making sustainable isolation for people who are really worried about theirjobs, mortgages and then go and sit in a confined space for three weeks at least. So, it is essential, but if we cannot keep at least two metres apart, we shouldnt be doing it. Having said that, it is an Excellent Way to get the mental release. It is more about Mental Health at the moment than physical. I changed the running route i use at the moment to make sure i am on a wider path or road, so i can always sustain the distance. It is like. It isnt entertainment, it is exercise. I can so relate to this, running in such a good way to clear your head and mayjust let a few things drop out and enjoy breathing for a start. One of the things that has been spoken by, jo, is people have been using canal parts, or the roads, if somebody running passes someone walking or cycling, the etiquette, there seems to be potential clashes about whos doing the right social distancing. How do you judge it . It the right social distancing. How do youjudge it . It very the right social distancing. How do you judge it . It very difficult, and chris made many good points, and one of them as he changed his route to go on of them as he changed his route to goona of them as he changed his route to go on a path that was wide enough, and we need to keep fit notjust for physical health but Mental Health at the moment which is so important, and choosing places where we can social distance and an effective way is so important to support health and also look after the needs of the nhs working so hard, we need to support them by keeping the social distancing rules. Who has the right of way, a cyclist or a runner on a narrow path . We have you two, top of your fields, what is the etiquette . We need to keep it very clear, on a path, i have no problem pulling over, and that is part of the new norm we are creating. It is difficult on pavements that are often less than two metres wide, in some places speed limits have been reduced so people feel safer to use more of the space. In a way, jo, things are different now, so you cannot think of it as you used to, i will go out for a run, i will go for a cycle, it is different. It is a moment in time, but essentially what you should be thinking, what can i do at home to replicate the exercise imight do at home to replicate the exercise i might have been doing elsewhere in other times . Definitely. The message is keep the exercise local, so you have a chance to find out local routes near your house and set yourself challenges like picking landmarks and how fast you can run to the next lamp post or tree, set yourself a challenge like running up a steep hill and things like that. But also having the chance to encourage your children to be active. As parents we all need to encourage our children to keep active for their physical and Mental Health. Obviously we are concerned about their safety, but we are concerned about their happiness, and if you can get out with them in a safe way, whether that is walking or cycling, but keep it safe. We all need to take the opportunity to keep fit but keep it safe and come up with challenges. People are not going to the gym, i am using things in the house like the coffee table and people can use tens, set up a circuit at home, there are certain things we can do, and engage in online lessons as well. Chris, do you have any tips for people in the house or garden . I have done some setups and press ups, and i will do more later. It is all things like that you can do. Jo mentioned online there is loads of great stuff, and there is loads of great stuff, and there are websites pulling it all together, all the different ideas of things you can do. Not everyone can leave their home. It is wonderful to see the different ideas people are coming up with. Can i ask a quick question, some people automatically think that cycling or running is the cardiovascular exercise you need, and when youre doing weights or bodywork, youre not getting your heart going quickly enough. Can you tell me just heart going quickly enough. Can you tell mejust one heart going quickly enough. Can you tell me just one reason why bodywork exercise like press ups get the heart going . It is keeping the intensity going and coming up with exercises like star jumps, intensity going and coming up with exercises like starjumps, and keep it going, change your exercise every 30 seconds, may be a list of exercise that changes every ten minutes. I sometimes dont do enough conditioning work, i always go out for a conditioning work, i always go out fora run, but now conditioning work, i always go out for a run, but now i can make sure i will do the home exercises and get the kids involved. There is always something you can do, and it is good to see and what people are coming up with, the clever things. Thank you very much for your time this morning. Keep going with the exercises. We are keeping on the theme of things to keep us going one way or the other. You might not be able to go out this weekend, but that doesnt mean that you cant still have fun. Over the past week, millions of people have been taking part in virtual parties, online quiz nights and stay at home concerts. Mo gilligan is one performer who has taken his comedy online lets take a look. How are you . I cant believe you accepted yes are you ready to play quarantine games . I am ready, lets go. This is the question. Out of these two tv soap operas, which was these two tv soap operas, which was the first to launch, emmerdale or eastenders . Five, four, three. Emmerdale. That is the right answer, congratulations, we will spin the wheel. Good luck. Here we go. There is fun to be had out there. Lets talk to mo. He has been Live Streaming quarantine games for people self isolating. What time are you doing it today . Nine oclock tonight. Wednesdays and saturdays at nine oclock. How many people are you attracting . Thousands, hundreds . When we first did it it was a000, and the last one we did on wednesday we had 6000 people. Oh, my goodness. Where are you finding your ideas for the games . Then we will talk about prizes. I normally do a lot of stuff, mainly my career is from social media, so a lot of interactive stuff, and this was a chance for me being in my house. I miss interaction a bit and wanted to boost morale, so that is where the idea came about. It is mainly quiz based,is idea came about. It is mainly quiz based, is that correct . Yes, i kind of wa nt based, is that correct . Yes, i kind of want people to win, i really want to give away stuff. It has been weird because i have been doing my Online Shopping like the majority of people, but buying gift sets and stuff just for prizes to people, but buying gift sets and stuffjust for prizes to give away. I have to ask, are you giving away thejunk that i have to ask, are you giving away the junk that is i have to ask, are you giving away thejunk that is in i have to ask, are you giving away the junk that is in your house . lot of people think that all the prizes are genuine, but for me i am at home and wanted to boost morale, at home and wanted to boost morale, a lot of people are quite depressed or suffering anxiety at the moment, so it was a chance to connect with people and give away some stuff, i genuinely want to give away the prizes. It has been really fun. Youre using social media as an inventive way to connect people because your life at the moment, your job, because your life at the moment, yourjob, like because your life at the moment, your job, like many because your life at the moment, yourjob, like many people, it is on hold. How was that affecting you . M is ok. Are you social media a lot so it gives me a chance to do the videos i do, but things like quarantine games, people tune in every wednesday and saturday, and they look forward to it so it feels like im still working. I am obviously not doing stand up comedy or tv or anything, but i still feel like i am working in a sense, i still get ready on a saturday night like i am performing and put on fresh clothes, what will i wear tonight on quarantine games . It doesnt feel like i am working to be honest it makes me wonder what your daytime outfits are. Normally its a short t shirt, but when i do quarantine games i actively look in my wardrobe. Shorts and a t shirt. My wardrobe. Shorts and a tshirt. Youre bringing a lot of iy tshirt. Youre bringing a lot of joy to a lot of people, and i imagine the demographic is 16 to 3a, but there will be a lot of people tuning in. Thank you very much, good luck. Good luck in stepping up with the outfits. Quarantine games are on tonight, nine oclock, on instagram, on his page. Now, another comedian, matt. He told hisjoke he told his joke earlier, he told hisjoke earlier, so he knows he is not the comedian. I will leave you to argue it out. Some aircoming i will leave you to argue it out. Some air coming down from the arctic, bringing a chillierfield, which will be noticeable as we go through today. A lot more cloud developing. Mostly on england in the way is we have seen some blue skies for the last few days, today in scotla nd for the last few days, today in scotland it will be sleet and snow, as temperatures drop. There will be some sunshine around, but these are the sort of areas where the wind will be strongest, so we will hit 13 degrees on the south coast but it will feel colder than that and chili across the north of scotland, with temperatures 3 5. The breeze will strengthen further but will not stop the temperature dropping. The blue colours will give an indication of where we will see frost, just about anywhere away from the east coast. Another thing to remember is that clocks go forward, so tomorrow morning sunrise will be an hour later. It means an hour less in bed, but the evenings will be lighter and longer. Later for longer. But the evenings will be lighter and longer. Laterfor longer. Still some showers around tomorrow, the south east is where the wind will be the strongest. Some sunny spells elsewhere, most places will stay dry, but wind will touch gale force in some spots, making it feel cooler. Temperatures in single figures, and will feel closer to freezing in some areas. Wrap up well. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, it has been lovely seeing you. Staying at home in the spring sunshine at the moment could bring one benefit lots of peoples gardens will never look better. Lots of peoples gardens many of us are making the most of whatever outdoor space we have to get stuck into planting and weeding and its good for our health too. Gardener carol klein is here to tell us what you can do, even with just a window box. Good morning. First of all, that is your garden i good morning. First of all, that is yourgarden i am good morning. First of all, that is your garden i am looking at behind you. What a beautiful garden you have. I am lucky, and i realise how lucky i am. But everyone can do something to enjoy this time and to actually start growing stuff and make the most of it. What are you up to today . We will come on to people who do not have such big gardens in a moment. But what will you have planned today . Im going to be doing all sorts of things, i am going to be tidying the whole place up, weeding, a bit of pruning, but mainly im going to beat growing seeds and planting potatoes later. Planting potatoes, very practical as well. Help us out. A lot of people will think, we dont have that kind of space, maybe you have a little backyard, or if youre in a flat, window boxes and stuff. Tell those people what they can do. Everyone can grow something. Even if you havent got a garden. If you have a balcony you can grow pots, if you havent got pots, you can use all sorts of recycling, now is the time to use those plastic containers. Fill them with compost, but some seeds in them. There are some seeds youre going to be able to actually get some food from within a matter of weeks. Things like spinach, shall i show you my tray of spinach . Please do. It will probably collapse. These were planted a few weeks ago. Im not suggesting eve ryo ne weeks ago. Im not suggesting everyone can do this, but you can get a packet of spinach seeds, lots of Mail Order Companies are still doing seed. Although there is a big demand, you can still or it mail order, the supermarket may still have them so all was not lost. Get out there and get some. If you live ina out there and get some. If you live in a flat and have no outside space at all, give us a few tips on what you might be able to grow literally inside your house. Although sort of thing is, spinach, leafy greens, rocket, it is so easy and simple. You just need a seed tray, some compost in the bottom, and it doesnt have to be a proper seed tray, we have got all sorts of things here. We have got plastic containers, here we are. Recycling in operation. Stuff like this, fill it with compost, sprinkle seed on and away you go. Put it on your windowsill, water it once and watch it coming up. Kids might also enjoy doing Something Like this. It is just an old yoghurt pot, it is outside, but inside, fill it with water and soak some kitchen paper in it. When the paper is wet, put been between the paper and the pot. People are going out for a short amount of exercise at the moment, there are some lovely things to see, down some streets youre getting beautiful blossom at this time of year. You can maybe take things in a bit more than you would have done normally. Exactly. Wherever you are. On those occasions when you go outside, just make the most of it. Look at it in detail. What an opportunity to appreciate nature because nature is going to carry on whatever happens to us. Nature just continues, make the most of it and enjoy it. Whether you like gardening or not, the thrill of growing a few things is wonderful. Grad one of your old potatoes that is going green, find a pot of soil, put it in, watch it grow. Just imagine the hugejoy that kids in, watch it grow. Just imagine the huge joy that kids will get seeing that happen. It is exciting. Could you wander into your garden, give us a shot of you walking into your garden, and we will say goodbye. Remember, plan things for the summer, because the summer will come. Lots of love to everyone. And the cat has come to say hello as well. Goodbye. Perfectly timed. Have a very lovely day from all of us here. We will be back again tomorrow at 6am. Goodbye.
