The government has faced criticism for its handling of the situation, with labour Leaderjeremy Corbyn accusing ministers of failing to grasp the scale of the climate crisis. 0ur Political CorrespondentJessica Parker can tell us more. Good morning. What has been said . Jeremy corbyn is attacking the governments response today ahead of his visit to south wales. He says that never to be seen borisjohnson is showing his true colours and criticises the Prime Minister for not calling a cobra meeting, those meetings are emergency councils where key ministers and officials come together and co ordinate a government response. The labour leader saying that if the Prime Minister is not campaigning for votes in a general election he simply does not care about helping communities affected by flooding. That is in reference to back in november, of course, when we saw flooding, the Prime Minister did convene a cobra meeting and went to flood hit areas where he did not a lwa ys flood hit areas where he did not always receive a warm welcome. The government pointed to the things it is doing and the environment secretary saying they have invested £2. 6 billion in flood defences and he said Jeremy Corbyn should not politicise the issue. The view from number 10 is that the Prime Minister we re number 10 is that the Prime Minister were to go to the flooded area, that can put a strain on local Emergency Services co ordinate security as well and you also do not need to have a cobra meeting in orderfor ministers and key officials to talk to each other. But it seems likely that as the downpour is set to continue there will be further scrutiny on the response of the government. The Irish Parliament is meeting today for the First Time Since a general election 12 days ago. But it is unlikely a government will be formed. Coalition negotiations are continuing after the Left Wing Party, sinn fein, topped the poll in the popular vote for the first time. 0ur ireland correspondent chris page reports from dublin. This next report contains some flash photography. Applause. The story of the irish general election was the surge of sinn fein. The Left Wing Party ended the historical hold of two parties rolling in the centre of the political spectrum. Fianna fail and fine gael have dominated governments for decades. For many of those years, sinn fein was strongly associated with a paramilitary group, the ira, which took more lives than any other organisation during the conflict in northern ireland. But since the Peace Process began in the 1990s, its had increasing success at the ballot box. 12 days ago sinn fein received more first preference votes than its rivals. When the parliament in dublin meets today, the sinn fein leader, mary lou mcdonald, will be nominated to be Prime Minister. So too will be the leader of fianna fail, micheal martin, and leo varadkar, from fine gael, who currently has the job. But none are likely to take office. For a stable government to be formed, 80 members of Parliament Must be prepared to support it. No one party is anywhere near that. Fianna fail has 38 mp5, sinn fein has 37, and fine gael has 35. Sinn fein says its preference is to lead a government with other, smaller left wing parties. But they dont have enough seats. Fianna fail and fine gael says they wont go into a coalition with sinn fein. So while no ones expecting a resolution today, it might mark the start of substantive negotiations. No eu countrys more exposed to the effects of brexit, but the talks to give ireland a government could take some weeks. Chris page, bbc news, dublin. Lets return back to our top story. Eight people have been killed in two separate shootings in the german town of hanau, near frankfurt. The suspect has been found dead in an apartment in the area. Lets speak to our correspondent Damien Mcguinness who is in germany. What do we know so far . It seems that the total death toll is now ten. That includes the alleged perpetrator and another body that was found with him. Police have said there were two separate shooting incident finesse, the first happened at ten oclock last night in hanau, a small town not farfrom frankfurt. The first attack was just outside a shisha bar and the first fatalities happened then. It seems that the attacker fled the scene in a car, went to another shisha bar in another part of town where he entered and then started, according to eyewitnesses, shooting wildly around. He killed more people there. The police then, overnight, staged a large scale the police then, overnight, staged a la rge scale manhunt the police then, overnight, staged a large scale manhunt and other Police Forces were pulled in from other parts of germany and police have now confirmed that they have found the body of what they say appears to be the suspect along with someone else. Police appear to believe that the manhunt is over and the suspect has been found but what we do not know is what the motive behind the attack was because so far we have very few details about the alleged attacker himself. How unusual is it for an attack like this to take base in germany and, in recent times, what have the motives been . We have had a number of quite severe attacks over the past few years, really. Some of them have been extremist attacks by islamist, there was a severe potentially catastrophic anti semitic attack recently and they have been right wing extremist attacks. Germany is a big country so you do sometimes have organised crime, violent incident with an as, sometimes family dramas that spiral out of control. 0ver sometimes family dramas that spiral out of control. Over the past few yea rs out of control. Over the past few years what we found is that occasions have happened where what appears to be a terror related attack and has been labelled as such by the media has turned out not to be the case. So that is why in this particular case people are being quite cautious. It could be organised crime, could a personal motivation. Police have not said so far if there is any reason to believe it is terror related. That is all police are saying at the moment. Time now is 12 minutes past six. Soon we will turn to problems with flood funding and talking to carol for a full forecast but right now, jane is here with sport. Starting, of course, with Manchester City. There is still a lot of worry about the flooding. We will be in wales this morning talking to people they are and it is still really bad problems. And more rain on the way as well which does not help the situation. Morning. 0nly as well which does not help the situation. Morning. Only the Environment Agency still has six severe flood warnings in force in england and with more rain coming oui england and with more rain coming our way this is not good news. The met office also has weather warnings out, yellow weather warnings. The rain started yesterday afternoon by the time you see the back end of it later this morning into the early afternoon, today, these are the kind of rainfall totals that we expect to have accumulated across wales. It is not just wales. Across have accumulated across wales. It is notjust wales. Across north west england, same timeframe, 70 100 millimetres in the same across south west scotland, 30 110 millimetres. This is rain in flooded areas where we really do not need it. You can see the extent of the rainfall we have already had in the last few hours, coming in on a few weather fronts and pushing southwards. We have some snow on the hills in scotland and some heavy burst that you can see dropping to lower levels. We have a band of rain which sinks southwards. A squally band of rain and that means we could see some intense bursts of rain in the short amount of time accompanied i some very gusty wind, busting around it about 45 50 mile an hour. Behind it a windy day anyway and again bright skies, some sunshine and right behind this weather front after a mild start to the day it will turn much colder and you will notice that the drop in temperature. Looking at four in lower, eight or nine as we push down towards the south. That clears away during the course of the early evening leaving us course of the early evening leaving us with a mostly dry night. I say mostly because you can see the showers already packing in and again some of those will be wintry on the hills. Our next weather front then comes in introducing get more rain. So after a cold start to the night, as the next system comes in the temperature will rise and for the next few days and nights the temperature flip flops between cold and then a little milder. For friday we have the warm front introducing mild air but hold on its hot on its hills we see colder air but the isobars alone tell you it is going to be windy during friday. We have all this rain sinking southwards, windy conditions, dry and cloudy as you push further south as well and these are the wind gusts you can expect, indicated by those black circles. Potentially disruptive wind to the east of the pennines, north west scotland also seen some strong wind with temperatures read ranging from seven on the north to 12 in the south. On the weekend, you can get an idea from this picture. In the north, brighter skies, but worth a heads up at this stage that on monday we could potentially be looking at some very strong winds once again, particularly so in the north. Carol, thank you.
