French voters have rejected the two traditional ruling parties, with their candidates being knocked out in the first round of the president ial election. Instead, the pro european, Emmanuel Macron, is set to face the far right leader, Marine Le Pen, in a run off for the presidency next month. Mr macron is widely seen as favourite as our europe correspondent, James Reynolds, Reports Emanuel Macron is frances newcomer, and now the winner of this election to back first round. He is an insider who has run as an outsider. The 39 year old is eu and Grow Business and a centrist. He resigned asa business and a centrist. He resigned as a minister in order to form his own political movement. And his gamble has paid off. Translation own political movement. And his gamble has paid off. Translationzli hope that in a fortnight, i will become your president. His supporters believe the rest of the country will now rally around him. This is his first election. The french people still hardly know him. He is now the favourite to become the next president of this country. Marine le pen, the leader of front national, will fight him in the final round. She won more votes than the party has ever won before. She matched her fathers achievement 13 years ago in reaching a president ial run off. Two outsiders in the running. All questions are now focusing on who will win in two weeks time. Before the election, Marine Le Pen told me, and every other journalist wanted to Marine Le Pen told me, and every otherjournalist wanted to ask Marine Le Pen told me, and every other journalist wanted to ask that question, Whether Emanuel Macron was her ideal opponent, because she wa nts to her ideal opponent, because she wants to turn it into france versus globalisation. She believes there are many people out there who believe in medal davos mis a davos man, mr moneybags, someone who likes the existing system. If she can tap into that feeling in france, she will expand her support from 20 something which it is now. It will bea something which it is now. It will be a big fight for her at all the polls suggest she will not make it. There is a lot riding around macron. Every suggestion, and my feeling, is that he is almost certain to be the leader of france. We will talk about ita leader of france. We will talk about it a lot on our programme. Thank you. These are dreams and you need to turn them into reality. This is data from one of the biggest Property Websites Rightmove. They say that average asking prices are at a record of £313,000. Thats up 2. 2 compared to last year. And that is the slowest growth in asking prices for four years. Also, its obviously notjust about what people are asking, its about what people are paying. And house prices are growing at half the rate since last summer, according to officialfigures. Rising inflation is hitting our pockets too, which could put pressure on the market. 0r or is the estate agent. With me. What do you think about this . As you said, asking prices are readily one pa rt said, asking prices are readily one part of the story. It will encourage confidence. There is also always a mixed picture on that. The key point is not asking prices, but achievement prices. What is it telling us at the moment . The market is in telling us at the moment . The market isina telling us at the moment . The market is in a stable place. It is not absolutely flying like it was in its absolutely flying like it was in its absolute peak, but it is a long way better than the depths of despair in 2007. Surveys tell us sales rate the highest point in volume since that terrible time back in the financial crisis of 2007. Even though prices are not running the way they were, the number of deals is that a satisfactory level. You are saying the number of deals is at a satisfactory level. What could change . There is obviously still uncertainty to come. The European Union and brexit. There is always a combination of factors taking place. The fundamentals of any market are the demand and availability of finance. If you have those two critical points, that should get you through these bumps in the road like general elections and referendums and those kinds of things. If you dont have those fundamentals, you can have problems. But at the moment we see that the levels of demand are good, especially with First Time Buyers as well. Mortgage finance is reasonably good in relative terms. We would anticipate those would help through these other events which will make people think twice. Through these other events which will make people think twicem through these other events which will make people think twice. It is about confidence. Absolutely, it is the key to the market. When you are looking at houses, do you see lots of sold boards around . Looking at houses, do you see lots of sold boards around . That makes a huge difference. Also what you hearin a huge difference. Also what you hear in the news. That affects confidence either well or badly. At the moment, things are not euphoric, but there certainly stable. People are feeling reasonably confident about the market. That is helping us through other headwinds and factors. Thank you very much for your time this morning, robert reed. If you have time, talk to us in an hours drive. Time. The weather is calling. That was a live shiver. Then. And i will be back in half an hour. A taste of winter though we are looking for the first half of this week. It will be far colder with some of us seeing snow. Parts of Northern England are moderate but for the rest of the uk, temperatures are low. We will cease and showers not just today but also through tomorrow and wednesday and frosty nights. So, gardeners, take note. What is happening today is we have a cold front or to thinking southwards and beyond that the air will come straight down from the arctic. Later this evening it will be across all of us. The thing this morning, it is not. We still have high temperatures to start the day in the south but colder already across the north and thatis colder already across the north and that is where we are seeing some snow. Into this morning. We have got some sunshinejust snow. Into this morning. We have got some sunshine just throughout the day across southern parts of england. Temperatures by eight oclock around ten or 11 celsius. As they move across the midlands into east anglia, it is a cloudier picture with some patchy rain. The patchy rain extends across the Northern England, the isle of man and also southern parts of Northern Ireland that was a front means the rain is thinking south and behind it it will brighten up quite nicely. Cold, however. Some sunshine and snow, especially across a far north of scotland, even at lower levels. Through the day, the other thing that will happen is that the wind will pick up, especially in the north but if you recall that is coming from the arctic so what is quite accentuated. As the weather since southee can see what happens. More showers across the east of scotla nd more showers across the east of scotland into england. At lower levels across North East England it is more likely to be sleet and hail a little rain in there as well. As the other Weather Front thinks southee will produce patchy rain. You can see a difference in temperature. It is not cold in the south but it certainly is in the north, it will feel raw up there, especially in the wind. Through the evening and overnight, is windy. There is still a wintry flavour coming south but for scotland into Northern Ireland and also across parts of North East England and wales but not all of us will see it. There will be a lot of dry weather around and we also have a widespread frost. Tomorrow we start with a strong wind, still some snow showers down to levels in the north of the country. Again in the east were likely to see some showers being wintry with a mix of hail, thunder, lightning, wet snow and we may see the odd wintry flake over in the west but most of us willjust see some rain. Wrap up warm for the next few days. Thank you very much, carol. That was sound advice. I have got my big coat out again. General lord richards has told the Daily Telegraph this morning theJeremy Corbyn should not be trusted with the defence of the nation. YesterdayJeremy Corbyn said he would review of all aspects of defence if labour won power, but refused to say whether he would keep britains trident Nuclear Deterrent. So what does this mean in practice . Andrew gwynne is labours National Elections and Campaign Co Ordinator and joins us from westminster. Good morning and thank you for joining us. There is quite a lot of pick up and i want to be quite clear this morning with you. What is Labour Party Policy. Will it renew trident. The party policy is that trident. The party policy is that trident will be renewed. That has been agreed and settled by the National Policy forum and by our annual conference. How then does Jeremy Corbyn not answer the question in the same way that you did . Well, of course, jeremy talking about a wider Defence Review and we wa nt to about a wider Defence Review and we want to make sure that defence resources a re want to make sure that defence resources are spent in absolutely the right way. We have a government that supposedly is committed to spending 2 of gdp on defence was that they have only managed to meet that they have only managed to meet that target by fiddling the figures to include things like pensions in that spending. Great return to the trident question . Jeremy corbyn is saying, and he sets yesterday that the party still having that discussion about whether or not to commit trident woods manifesto. The issue of trident is settled by the Labour Party Policy making forums. It was agreed by labour conference. And, so, that is the situation. We are committed to trident renewal. Could you explain then how there is this divergences between the leader and the party policy . Im not sure that there is. I think that what jeremy was talking about was a wider Defence Review. We want to make sure that Defence Spending is put into all the right areas to meet modern needs for the defence of the realm. We ask another question about what he said, would you authorise killing of the isis leader was to mark wood that did part of policy, would you do it . Im not sure that these things are matters for party policy. Ifi things are matters for party policy. If i were given some good intelligence then i would make that decision based on the intelligence. But i do not think it is a bad thing. Jeremy taylor not rule that out, may i point out, i do not think it is about thing to have a leader that could take considered view as to whether there would be civilian children killed in the process. If it were a clear strike on the leader of ices and there were no other casualties they would clearly, my own view is, yes, i would take that decision. You are speaking about defence. With regards to defence, what are you talking about . Are you thinking of more shot waters, more troops . Where would you find this investment . More soldiers. Troops . Where would you find this investment . More soldiers. What we have seen since 2010 is the old forces cut from over 100,000 personnel to fewer than 80,000. What we have seen is money wasted by the scrapping of nimrod, the scrapping of the harrier jump jets. Scrapping of nimrod, the scrapping of the harrierjumpjets. We have seen a lot of waste. We think that money could be spent in a smarter way and it is notjust about making sure we have enough armed personnel, it is about how we deploy them as well. So that we can get british troops involved in peacekeeping missions around the world. And will you commit to a certain number of armed personnel . We are committed to seeing at least 2 of gdp spent for defence. That is without fiddling the figures in the way that the conservatives have done. And, clearly, there will be a Defence Review to decide how that money will be spent. We are entering the second week of what seems to be this campaign. When you are on the doorstep to use a Jeremy Corbyn would be of good Prime Ministerfor the uk . Is that what you say . Absolutely. I think that under Jeremy Laidler has got a vision for a better, fairer britain. In britain that will work for the many and not just a few. 0n education, on health, on pension, on a whole variety of policy that we have announced that we will be announcing in the days and weeks ahead. I think that people will see that sense of direction under the labour party is that we wa nt to under the labour party is that we want to change the emphasis from just serving those at the very top to serving the vast majority of people in this country, a Government Works are the many are not the few. And, briefly, when will the ma nifesto and, briefly, when will the manifesto be ready . It will be ready in early may. We have got a fast track process under the labour party constitution, a meeting, a clause five meeting as a technical term, all the interested parties and stakeholders will sit down and fresh Direction Of Travel and are now went out yesterday to party member is asking for their priorities because it is crucial that we get party memberfeedback it is crucial that we get party member feedback is world we will have a manifesto in the early weeks of may. 24 your time. Youre watching breakfast from bbc news. Some lively pictures now from one of britains most beautiful cathedrals this morning. Saint davids in pembrokeshire. It is the smallest city in britain, bidding to become a city in britain, bidding to become a city of culture. That honour is currently held by hull but other places are already bidding for their chance in 2021. Good morning. We are about as far west in wales as you can get without falling into the irish sea. Behind me, this is blended Mediaeval Gateway is the entrance to the cathedral. Behind it, the city of saint davids with a population of 1800. Here is the cathedral dedicated to the patron saint of wales. What this place bb Uk City Of Culture in 2021 . In a moment i will speak to the man behind saint davidss did but first i have also been to another of the 11 cities lining up to the accolade. Warrington. George crombie, famous for His Ukelele Playing was born here in 1904. The first ikea opened here in 1904. The first ikea opened here in 1904. The first ikea opened here in 1987. In 1968 the players was made a new town in the town hall has some spectacular gates. But culture . Has some spectacular gates. But culture . In warrington . Hasnt a lwa ys culture . In warrington . Hasnt always been at the forefront of what have been doing . No. Now, they are hoping to change all that. As we transition from the new town to the new city, that city has to have a compelling cultural offer because we know what cities that dont have that end up like. They are abandoned. They do not have vibrancy they are not a magnet of talent and for young people that they ought to be. Warringtons economic lead successful and unemployment is low. But you would not know it, looking at the town centre. This is what they call the cultural quarter. A museum and lybrand. They say it is the Oldest Public Library in england. A small concert hall. The pyramid arts centre. But it is quiet. The truth is, people here who wa nt quiet. The truth is, people here who want theatre or major Art Galleries go to liverpool or manchester. The Concert Venue was called parr hall and outside amid a musician and promoter who said that the live music scene has enjoyed a modest revival lately but could do much better if the town was a city of culture. I have met artist from here, they do not get the opportunities here, you need to go abroad to find them, had to to manchester, to liverpool. So there may not be loads of stuff going on but that does not mean that people from warrington do not have the talent and skill. Last year, viola davis were on the cusp of success when they and their manager were killed in a road accident. They came from warrington. Proof that culture can flourish here alongside the soap works and the trickle powells. That is warrington, one of 11 cities bidding. With me now is that mike, the head of Cultural Services here in pembrokeshire. We are quite short time. Why saint davids . It is so tiny. Surely it cannot possibly be a city of culture Question Mark i think it can. It has a unique proposition. We have a world class coastline behind us, beautiful and amazing magnificent heritage. Just something completely different from all the other cities across the uk. What we offer is going to be transformational, it will be innovative, it will be something that will blow the minds of people andi that will blow the minds of people and i think Everybody Needs to get behind us to make that happen. Can i have one big event, one big thing that you hope to achieve that as a city of culture . We will have a huge number of events. The main thing, rather than one thing, the thing is the inclusivity of this programme. Much as things that people think about, theatre, opera, art, culture is for every body. People who skateboarder doing culture, people who watch soap operas is doing culture. There will be a whole range of activities for everyone to get behind. Good luck. 11 cities bidding and yours is one of thumb. Good luck. We will be down there throughout the morning. It is quite lovely down there. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Four drivers have admitted falling asleep while Operating Trams in croydon, where seven people were killed after a tram derailed in november. A maximum today of 14 or 15 degrees. Reasonably warm. It is not until overnight that we see a dramatic Temperature Drop and the showers move away. Cold airfrom the north dragged in. Temperatures falling way to zero in a couple of spots as we widespread frost first thing tomorrow morning. A cool start to tuesday but bright, sunshine and showers are clever little bit of hail mixed in. A bit asleep on high ground. The temperature tomorrow was dramatically cooler and will feel quite fresh and 12 celsius. As we had through the week, another cold my tuesday and wednesday. Widespread frost expected. Instead, the pro european, Emmanuel Macron, is set to face the far right leader, Marine Le Pen, in a run off for the presidency next month. Mr macron is widely seen as favourite as our europe correspondent, James Reynolds, reports Emmanuel Macron is frances newcomer, and now the winner of this elections first round. Translation i hope that in a fortnight, i will become your president. Cheering. His supporters believe that the rest of the country will now rally around him. This is Emmanuel Macrons first election. The french people still hardly know him. Hes now the favourite to become this countrys next president. Marine le pen, the front nationale leader, will fight mr macron in the final round. She won more votes than the party has ever won before, and matches herjean marie fathers achievement 15 years ago in reaching a president ial run off. Translation the french people must take this historic opportunity because the Biggest Issue is the globalisation that is putting our civilisation in danger. In Bastille Square in paris, some left wing protesters faced off against the police. These demonstrators were angered by the results of this vote. Police have begun a Murder Inquiry after a former Royal Navy Officer was killed by thieves who stole his car from outside his house. Michael samwell, 35, died after confronting intruders who broke into his home in Greater Manchester in the early hours of sunday morning. Simon clemison reports. How did a disturbance at a house in the early hours end in a Murder Investigation . Michael samwell and his wife were woken up by a loud noise, and the former royal Naval 0fficer went downstairs to have a look. The exact sequence of events that followed is not clear, but outside, now cordoned off, the 35 year old was run over as his car was stolen. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries. The car was found abandoned a few miles away. This could have happened to anyone. You hear a noise downstairs and you go and see what it is. It is incredibly tragic he has lost his life. This is described as a quiet corner of manchester. And gathered in silence, people came to pay their respects, laying flowers at the scene. Over a materialistic item, a car, you take somebodys life. Is that what it has boiled down to . It will be a bit different here now. I am a bit shaken up because obviously it is close to my house. I am just scared. Whoever is responsible is still on the run. One theory is they did break in simply to get their hands on the car. If that is the case, it leads to a far more serious enquiry. Simon cleminson, bbc news. Jeremy corbyn is promising to repeal what he calls vicious trade Union Legislation, brought in by the conservatives, if labour wins the general election. The Labour Leader is making his First Campaign visit to scotland today, where his party is trying to claw back support after huge losses in the election two years ago. 0ur Political Correspondent, chris mason, is in westminster for us. In some ways it was quite a tough day forJeremy Corbyn yesterday. Good morning. It was tough. It could write to the heart of the problem forJeremy Corbyn since he became Labour Leader. He has a set of views that are just very, very different from a lot of his mps. Where it was particularly sticky for him yesterday is when he was pushed on the Andrew Marr Show on bbc one whether or not he would renew the Nuclear Deterrent of the uk if he was Prime Minister. He has been opposed to it his whole life. He said that policy was still under discussion. The thing is, lots of other labour types, including frontbenchers, have said no, no, no, it is Labour Policy that it will be renewed under a labour government. A frontbencher was sitting in this very seed a few minutes ago. You will see the political equivalent of gaffer tape being used to take over the gap between party policy and the leader. The issue of trident is settled by the labour partys policy making conferences. That is the situation. We are committed to trident renewal. You can be certain that the conservatives will absolutely hammer labour on this. Today, and again and again during the campaign. Jeremy corbyn will try to change the focus. He is in scotla nd to change the focus. He is in scotland addressing the congress. He will talk about the idea of a £10 minimum wage. Interestingly, the snp first minister, nicola sturgeon, also at the same congress a little later on, is saying labour are no longer her big threat in scotland, instead it is the conservatives. 0ne poll over the weekend suggested the conservatives would make a significant gain in scotland in june. And we will speak to Michael Fallon at ten past eight. Thank you very much for that. Two men are due to appear in court today, charged in connection with an acid attack at a nightclub in east london on easter monday, which left two people blind in one eye. Arthur collins, whos 24 and the boyfriend of the reality tv star, ferne mccann, is facing 14 counts of wounding with intent and one count of throwing corrosive fluid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Andre phoenix, whos 21, faces seven counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Tougher punishments for the most serious cases of speeding have come into force in england and wales today. Drivers can now be fined 1. 5 times their weekly wage for the worst offences. That means driving over 50 miles an hour in a 30 zone or 100 miles an hour on a motorway. The government will go to the high court to try to delay publishing its strategy for tackling Air Pollution. Today was the deadline for ministers to present their plans, but they claim voting rules mean they cant publish sensitive policies before the general election. Campaigners say theyre trying to dodge a difficult issue. 0ur environment analyst, roger harrabin, reports. Britains filthy air was supposed to have been cleaned up by 2010. But governments found the task hard and expensive, so policies have crept along. Until campaigners at the High Court Won their case that ministers had a legal duty to protect people from pollution. Today, the 24th of april, was the date stipulated by the judge for the Air Pollution policy to be published. But that was until this. I have just chaired a meeting of the cabinet where we agreed that the government should call a general election. Her election announcement, ministers argued, made it impossible to publish the document now. Too politically sensitive, in breach of election rules. Heres the real reason for the bid to delay, say green campaigners, dirty diesel cars. And government dithering over a Pollution Tax Rate or a costly scrapping scheme. They had five months to come up with a new plan and have waited until the last minute. That is unacceptable. We need this plan introduced now. People are suffering in health from the air they are breathing. Thats not right. It is a Public Health issue, not a political one. If ministers persuade the judge to delay, any prickly political decisions will come after the election. Roger harrabin, bbc news. Over 40,000 runners crossed the London Marathon finish line this weekend. And while a Record Number of competitors took part in the race, this is the moment everyone is talking about. Matthew rees stopped his race to help David Wyeth Cross the finish line. The organisers have praised mr rees, saying he encompassed everything thats so special about the London Marathon. Well be reuniting the duo just after half past seven. That is exciting news. Congratulations to all of them. I hope you had an amazing day and you are feeling 0k. I hope you had an amazing day and you are feeling ok. Many people are walking like thunderbirds this morning. Iam walking like thunderbirds this morning. I am sure it was worth it. Loads of money earned for charity. A group of British Firms has unveiled plans to test Driverless Cars on city roads and motorways in the uk, for the first time. The driven consortium, backed by government money, intends to try out a fleet of Autonomous Vehicles between london and oxford in 2019. So far, trials of Driverless Vehicles in the uk have mainly taken place at slow speeds and not on public roads. A 12 year old who was trying to drive across the entire breadth of australia has been arrested by police. The boy was already 800 miles into his journey when he was pulled over by a Routine Patrol because the bumper of his vehicle was dragging along the ground. Police believe hed planned to keep going all the way to perth, which would take another 30 hours. The minimum driving age in New South Wales is 16 for learners. I always thought it would take a lot longer than that to drive across australia. So, he was 12 there are certainly questions about how he managed to do that, really. I am perplexed by that. It has worried you . As he fill up with petrol, where are his parents . Ted hastings will be with us at 840, by the way. If you have not seen the episode last night, due warning. Spoiler alerts. Era when the lot for me this morning. You ruined. France is entering unfamiliar political waters following the first round of their president ial election. Voters rejected traditional parties in favour of two outsiders. Only a few months ago, Emmanuel Macron left government to set up his own political movement. His opponent, Marine Le Pen, is the leader of the far right national front. We can now speak to the bbcs karin giannone, who is in paris for us this morning. Good morning. There is so much to discuss. Good morning from paris. France is waking up from some of the political earthquakes they had, although they were predicted. The fa ct although they were predicted. The fact the two main Political Parties in france that have dominated the scene for more than 50 years have been wiped off the map in the first round of the president ial election. I have two guests. A warm welcome to both of you. How much of a shock to the landscape is this . Less of a shock than you think. For the first time in several years, pollsters got it absolutely right. The likelihood is that macron will be elected will be a continuation of the previous government where he was a minister. Fewer surprises. Marine le pen is doing extremely well. The Socialist Party is dead, which is an interesting thing in itself. There isa interesting thing in itself. There is a resilient force in france for a very corbynised left wing. The Biggest Surprise is probably that the isnt a surprise. You heard Anne Elizabeth saying it will be Emmanuel Macron who wins this. You disagree . Of macron who wins this. You disagree . Of cost. That is why we have campaigned. Ithink of cost. That is why we have campaigned. I think that last nights results are tremendous, despite the fact that most media in france are backing up macron. And despite that, Marine Le Pen has done well. We will campaign to show the french citizens why we should vote for her. As the party detoxified its image . We heard accusations even last night of races and intolerance. Racism. I know there are failures they are trying to hide by using the fear factor in trying to express things like racism, which is not true. Marine le pen is in favour of a patriotic france gathering together for a positive future. Macron does not even believe in french culture. Be choice is quite clear. The. Why is this so important if you are looking from outside france . Certainly in the uk people are wondering what the difference is between the two candidates. Macron was courageous in that he campaigned ona macron was courageous in that he campaigned on a completely pro europe campaign. There were no missed giving is, no buts. That was brave because we felt there was an unbroken narrative. He has now managed to do well in this with a party that he created only one year ago. Waving theirflags. That is party that he created only one year ago. Waving their flags. That is a change. Before brexit it was a bit different because with the government and everything, the notion of Punishing Britain and not allowing britain to get away with not playing by the rules and still getting exactly, is the same thing as when she was a member of the eu, that has been macrons line as well. We have 13 days until it all happens all over again when those two candidates will be reduced to one on may seven. Thank you very much. It is not easy to do. Beautiful skies in Central London this morning. Isnt that lovely . We will be live there in 30 minutes. We have to marathon runners, one who helped the other over the line. What a Beautiful Day that is. It looks gorgeous, doesnt it . Carol has a big Coat A Warning for us. Hello, carol. Good morning to you both. You are quite right. It is beautiful currently in london with temperatures at seven or eight celsius but chilly elsewhere in the country with frost and wintry showers are in the forecast. It snows across four of northern scotland. A few fronts moving south behind those we pull in this Cold Arctic Air it has crossed the northern half a country already and it will get across all areas by the time we get to midnight. We have two distinctive bands of patchy rain and another one of snow. Both across Northern England, wales and the midlands, east anglia Heading South but for southern counties there are some sunshine around first thing this morning. The cloud will continue to build from the north west. A little patchy rain across wales into the midlands, east anglia but it is patchy. The other band across Northern England and also Northern Ireland are both Heading South so brightening up behind both but it is cold across scotland, the of Ireland First thing in many have the snow showers across the north, even at low levels. The other feature of the weather today is that the wind is going to strengthen, particularly so where you are exposed wood across north. It will touch powerful. But it is coming from a Cool Direction so that will really accentuate the cold feel. And through the day we will see some of the showers just moved east coast of scotland into the Far North East Of England. Those ones, again, they will have a wintry mix in them, perhaps some snow, mostly in them, perhaps some snow, mostly in the hills but a mixture of sleet and hailas in the hills but a mixture of sleet and hail as well. Meanwhile, in the hills but a mixture of sleet and hailas well. Meanwhile, our rain band continues to push south into Southern England defender broken up this question at cloud will build. Here we hang on to high temperatures with the cold Air Filtering down and will continue to do so behind this band of rain as we head into the evening and overnight. Under clear skies were looking at widespread frost. Snow continues in the north, we dry south, from showers across the north of ireland in Eastern Parts of england and also north wales as well. So watch out forice north wales as well. So watch out for ice on Services First thing in the morning. After the cold start there will be a lot of sunshine and wintry and is coming out of showers. I hope you feel ok this morning. But there was one picture through all of the tears that summed it all up. These pictures are amazing. Its the unforgettable moment from this years London Marathon, an exhausted runner being helped across the finish line by a fellow competitor. Matthew rees sacrificed his own race to half push, half pull david wyeth up the mall to the finish line. Well be reuniting the two in a moment for the First Time Since yesterdays race. But first lets have a look at the incredible effort they both made. This is so hard. Every single part of his body is shutting down. We are seeing the camaraderie of the marathon and the spirit. All of these people want to break there time. They are still stopping to help him. Incredible scenes. 175 metres down. The royals havejoined. You can see Prince William and prince harry looking out in disbelief at what they are seeing. The camaraderie, which is what it is all about. They are sacrificing what could be a pb. Who knows . They are trying to get them over the line. James, i know you havejust run trying to get them over the line. James, i know you have just run your own fantastic race, but when you see that, that kind of sums up, doesnt it, what it is all about. It shows the selfless nature of the runners. I saw the same kind of thing happening when i went past. Just an amazing moment. Joining us now from tower bridge in london are the reunited runners, david wyeth and matthew rees. Thank you, both, so much forjoining us. What an amazing thing. Both of you look well. But, david, you did not look well yesterday. How are you feeling . I did not, did i . Ifeel great. Thank you so much for asking. I feel recovered, but a little great. Thank you so much for asking. Ifeel recovered, but a little bit sore. Tell us about that moment when you first caught sight of david. Did you first caught sight of david. Did you immediately think i have to help him . What kind of state was he in . took the final corner ready to sprint the final couple of metres. Then i saw david and his Legs Com Pletely colla pse then i saw david and his legs completely collapse beneath him. I thought i need to help this guy and he needs to get to the finish. 26 miles, the finish isjust he needs to get to the finish. 26 miles, the finish is just there. He needs to get to the finish. 26 miles, the finish isjust there. It was important we get to the end and cross together. It is a beautiful image. I know you have been saying that anyone would have done it. I think many people this morning contacted are saying they would not have done it, and some said that you did it, and that is the point. Have done it, and some said that you did it, and that is the pointm have done it, and some said that you did it, and that is the point. It is great if i have inspired anyone. I think anyone would have done the same thing. Is not me, the next runner. It is just about being human and seeing someone struggling and helping them out. Tell us, what were you saying to david . We can see you quite clearly chatting. What were you saying . It looks like i was quite angry. I was trying to motivate him. I was saying the finish is right there, we will finish, you can do it. Ijust wanted him to get to the end. David, give us an him to get to the end. David, give us an idea of what you were going through. Sorry, carry on. He said i am determined to get there. That is the problem. I was so determined that i got the idea we were going to make it happen. Many people here either have run a marathon, and they will know that three hours is a lot, they will know the feeling of giving up they will know the feeling of giving up in your body. Could you even hear what he was saying to you . My head was clear enough for the conversation. What was going through my head was, dont you stop, you need to keep going. This is kind of my problem. In fact, when the volunteer came over, you know, i was still really keen. He just dropped me and got a good time. 0bviously, we had never met, so i did not know his circumstances as well. As you mentioned earlier, he could well have been on for a personal best. I did not know that. I was frustrated he was giving up his race. I know how important it is. Many people wa nt to how important it is. Many people want to know, did you get a pb, were you on for one . What happened . No. Early on in the race my calf seized up early on in the race my calf seized up and early on in the race my calf seized up and i was in pain. Most of the race for me was i need to finish and thatis race for me was i need to finish and that is my accomplishment, finishing. When i saw david struggling, it was the same thing for him. He needed to make it. It seemed the perfect ending for my race to help him across. And yet he was telling me to go on, but ijust wa nted was telling me to go on, but ijust wanted to make sure he did get to the finish line and was not taken to the finish line and was not taken to the side. I am so grateful. Yes. I cant say how grateful i am because you say that, matthew, that others would have stopped. I am sure they would have stopped. I am sure they would have stopped. I am sure they would have been others. But you persisted. I told you to go and you did not. Such a gentleman. You are making me cry, the terror of you. A great day for swansea as well. Have you had a drink yet . Will he remain in touch . What is going to happen . We will definitely stay in touch. We have been through something incredible together. A marathon i will never forget. It does sum up the Running Community as well. We are really pleased you have seen this. It got caught on the cameras. This stuff happens all over the place in races up and down the country. And i am grateful that he demonstrated what it is like. I have had references and people say that we we re had references and people say that we were rivals. We were not rivals. Lam we were rivals. We were not rivals. I am pleased everyone saw that. Beautiful story. I am afraid we lost a bit of the line there right at the end. How incredible. That is what it is all about. That is very much the Running Community. It is snowing a couple of fronts Heading South and behind the cold air is streaming in. If you are in the wind, it will feel bitter. We have the wintry nurse at moment, snow to low levels. There is a band of rain sinking south across the south of england at the moment with sunshine but the cloud will build as we go through the course of the morning. Behind that, however, darker skies. Still more snow to come through the course of the day, Eastern Scotland into the north east of england we are looking at wintry showers in the very nature suggests that we will see them. The two fronts Heading South will be down towards the isle of wight and over towards the isle of wight and over towards the isle of wight and over towards the south west of england and south wales. The rain on them will be fairly patchy but the cloud will be fairly patchy but the cloud will be fairly patchy but the cloud will be far noticeable than this morning. As we push into north wales, it will begin to brighten up. Across Northern Ireland you could see some winter in a few of the showers but mostly on the hills. In the evening and are tonight it is still windy with snow falling across northern and central parts of scotla nd northern and central parts of scotland and the east coast we could also see some wintry and is in good season wintry sun showers across Northern Ireland and north wales for a time. There will be dry weather and clear skies so there will be frost and there will also be the risk of ice on untreated surfaces. It is all happening. Tomorrow we start off on a cold note that there will be sunshine. A plethora showers, some wintry, and some falling as sleet and hail with the risk of thunder and lightning. In between we will see some sunshine. It will still feel quite raw, particularly in the north. 0n wednesday, while we have some rain, still nothing substantial. Patchy in nature, more rain coming in across the north and north west in between bright skies and then as we head into the second part of the weekend, that a richer once again will start to pick up. Until then, get your winter woollies out because you will need them. I am still. Act here mode. An emotional high after listening to those runners. That is the sort of thing, if you need motivation then hopefully. Hopefully they have raised your pep this morning. Steph, steph, can we talk about the Housing Market . dont know if that would help but lets give it a go. This is data from one of the biggest Property Websites Rightmove who say that average asking prices are at a record of £313,000. Thats up 2. 2 compared to last year. And is the slowest growth in asking prices forfour years. Also, its obviously notjust about what people are asking, its about what people are paying. And house prices are growing at half the rate since last summer according to official figures. Rising inflation is hitting our pockets too which could put pressure on the market. Im joined now byjodie. Jodie, imjoined now byjodie. Jodie, it is about how buyers and sellers are feeling about the economy when it comes to what is happening in the market. Or is a change in confidence at the moment so it talks about the house Price Research and house prices are still growing but they are growing to a much lower rate than we have seen before. There is some disparity across the country in that as well. So what were seeing is slowing down in the growth of house prices and we have also recently seen a reversal in the trend in terms of retail sales and a quarter on quarter decline. Interesting, isnt it . A bit of a surprise. We are an economy driven by Consumer Spending so when we feel rates is when we see retail sales ta ke rates is when we see retail sales take a hit that is a concern. Exactly. The economy is fuelled by the consumer over the last two or three years and, in particular, in the last nine months. There have been no let up in spending. I think, however, in terms of surprise, not necessarily inflation is starting to bite, it is inflation over 2 now and it is really starting to hit the consumer. And inflation, of course, is the rise in the cost of living and that is been changing because of what has been going on politically. So. Can you explain that . We see inflation driving up prices, driving up inflation driving up prices, driving up Commodity Prices and the impact of the deep valuation of sterling means it costs us more to purchase things which therefore hits our disposable income and hits our discretionary spend. We are not the only economy that sees its was the devaluation is an important factor, other economies also suffer at the moment. And what is the general election normally different economy . I was election normally different economy . Iwasa election normally different economy . I was a surprise when that was announced. Definitely a surprise. In terms of a snap election. It is very different, however, to a normal election. Just 45 days away now so it really is what it says on the tin. There is still a risk of destruction when people talking about the election and all of the politics go around it. However, it isa politics go around it. However, it is a much lower level than we normally see on the impact of will have a bigger effect on retail. At least it is not long to go until the election. It saves us having to discuss it too often. Thank you very much, steph. St davids in pembrokeshire. Its britains smallest city and is bidding for the chance of becoming the Uk City Of Culture. That honour is currently held by hull but already towns and cities are lining up for their chance of winning the accolade in 2021. Nick higham is there. Good morning, nick. Looking lovely here and you can hear the bells of the cathedral here timing as they summon people to morning service. This is, as you say, the smallest city in written, a population of 1800, no more than a large village but it has ambition. It is one of the 11 places bidding to become the Uk City Of Culture in 20 to anyone. But find out what it has too far. Paul runs hotels here in the city. Make your pitch. Why then david . We have Something Special in our landscape, not merely the cathedral and Art Galleries, we are the art capital of wales, but also the art capital of wales, but also the landscape. We are preserved by the landscape. We are preserved by the National Park nearby so the opportunity for the government is to offer the offer from regeneration and Community Support as opposed to just an and Community Support as opposed to justan urban and Community Support as opposed to just an urban city. All the talk about the surrounding area as well, surely you have not got, have you, enough cloud here or in a free sources to mount a serious bid . Absolutely. We already host major events like a cliff diving championship, iron man, major events come here. We have a majorfestival of the cathedral every year. An International Music festival takes place. And it involves the whole region. An amazing cultural artistic community. We have events going throughout all the year and we have the capacity to take more visitors here. Cornwall has 12 times more visitors than us. Our infrastructure is better than cornwall and we are more accessible and the potential here needs to be filled. You are doing quite well here. It is a lovely spot with a vigorous tourist injury street. There are big cities such as sunderland, places that need it more that really. The boost to being city of culture but that would bring, it would make a tremendous difference. Would make a difference here . This is a small community. The meeting we have here is tourism and farming in most of the farmers have to diversify into tourism and there are underprivileged backgrounds and community see the really benefit from regeneration. It keeps people here in pembrokeshire, inspires them to inspire a career in hospitality instead of going outside the county to work in a big city. There is so much. And it is the c. This will help generations here for years to come. help generations here for years to come. It is the legacy. Help generations here for years to come. It is the legacy. 11 cities bidding, they need to get their applications in by the end of the week. We will learn which city will be successful in december. Thank you very much indeed. Emmanuel macron is frances newcomer, and now the winner of this elections first round. He is an insider whos run as an outsider. The 39 year old is a pro eu, pro business centrist. He resigned as a minister in order to form his own political movement. And his gamble has paid off. Translation i hope that in a fortnight, i will become your president. Cheering. His supporters believe that the rest of the country will now rally around him. This is Emmanuel Macrons first election. The french people still hardly know him. He is now the favourite to become this countrys next president. Marine le pen, the Foreign National leader, will fight Emmanuel Macron in the final round. She won more votes than the party has ever won before. It matches her fathers achievement 15 years ago in reaching a president ial run off. Translation the french people must ta ke translation the french people must take this historic opportunity, because the Biggest Issue is the globalisation that is putting our civilisation in danger. In Bastille Square in paris, some left wing protesters faced off against the police. These demonstrators were angered by the results of this vote. They and the rest of the country will have the final say in two weeks time. Lets speak now to our paris correspondent, hugh schofield. Does Marine Le Pen have any chance of winning the next round . There is no doubt that Emmanuel Macron is the clear favourite for the second round in two weeks time, but this is not going to be a rerun of 2002. That year, Marine Le Pens fatherjohn Marine Le Pen got a big shock breakthrough into the second round and round againstjacques chirac, but he was wiped out in round two. He barely moved from his ratings in the first round. This time, Marine Le Pen will be able to build on her first round time, Marine Le Pen will be able to build on herfirst round score. We expect her to go a certain amount because she is going to turn the second round into a big debate not on the right divide, but on the nation versus europe and nation versus globalisation divide. She will pick up votes from the centre right candidate, but also from people who voted for the far left. We can expect her vote to go up, but it is unlikely it will go up enough to beat Emmanuel Macron. We will be back in paris later in the programme. Jeremy corbyn is promising to repeal what he calls vicious trade Union Legislation brought in by the conservatives if labour wins the general election. The Labour Leader is making his First Campaign visit to scotland today, where his party is trying to claw back support after huge losses in the election two years ago. Our Political Correspondent chris mason is here. Isaid our i said our political mason are you a mason . sorry, our Political Correspondentjoins us. A tough day for correspondentjoins us. A tough day foer correspondentjoins us. A tough day for mr corbyn yesterday . There are still six weeks to go, so assemble those words in the right order Jeremy Corbyn had a tough time yesterday. The essence of it was the challenge has faced since he has been Labour Leader and also why he won the Labour Leadership in the first place, which is that he is very different in his political instinct and outlook and policies from lots of other labour mps. The tricky thing yesterday was that he was articulating something which was different from what we are now told us different from what we are now told us established party policy. He said the party were having a discussion as to whether they would back the renewal of the uks Nuclear Deterrent. Jeremy corbyn has been a long standing campaigner to get rid of it. The party then put out a statement saying it would say in its ma nifesto, statement saying it would say in its manifesto, its bundle of promises, that it would commit to renewing trident. The party has had to effectively get the gaffer tape out and stick it across the big gap between whatJeremy Corbyn is saying and what lots of mps would like him to say. Today, he heads to scotland to say. Today, he heads to scotland to try and change the topic. The Scottish National party, incidentally, will say the real threat to them is not labour, but the conservatives. Chris mason, i shall say it very carefully from now on thank you very much. In the last hour, police say theyve arrested a man in connection with the murder of a former naval officer who was killed after confronting intruders who broke into his home in manchester. Michael samwell died after thieves ran him over with his own car. Police are appealing for witnesses. How did a disturbance at a house in the early hours end in a Murder Investigation . Michael samwell and his wife were woken up by a loud noise, and the former royal naval officer went downstairs to have a look. The exact sequence of events that followed is not clear, but outside, now cordoned off, the 35 year old was run over as his car was stolen. He was taken to hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The vehicle was found abandoned a few miles away. This could have happened to anyone. You hear a noise downstairs and you go and see what it is. It is incredibly tragic that he has lost his life. This is described as a quiet corner of manchester. And gathered in silence, people came to pay their respects, laying flowers at the scene. I work nights, sol i work nights, so i walk home. It will be a bit different here now. I am a bit shaken up because obviously it is close to my house. I am just scared. One theory is they did break in simply to get their hands on the car. If that is the case, its led to a far more serious enquiry. Tougher punishments for the most serious cases of speeding have come into force in england and wales today. Drivers can now be fined one and a half times their weekly wage for the worst offences that means driving over 50 miles an hour in a 30 zone or 100 miles an hour on a motorway. The government will go to the high court to try to delay publishing its strategy for tackling Air Pollution. Today was the deadline for ministers to present their plans, but they claim voting rules mean they cant publish sensitive policies before the general election. Campaigners say theyre trying to dodge a difficult issue. Over 40 , 000 runners crossed the London Marathon finish line this weekend. And while a Record Number of competitors took part in the race, this is the moment everyone is talking about. Matthew rees stopped his race to help David Wyeth Cross the finish line. The organisers have praised mr rees, saying he encompassed everything thats so special about the London Marathon. Earlier, they told bbc breakfast they had become friends overnight. We will definitely stay in touch. We have been through something incredible together, and a marathon i will never forget. And it does sum up i will never forget. And it does sum up the Running Community as well. We are pleased that you have seen this. It got caught on camera, but this stuff happens all over the place in races up stuff happens all over the place in races up and down the country. I am grateful to matthew, and he demonstrated what it is like. I have heard references to a running rival. We are not rivals on that day. Where are all in it together. That explains why so many people ta ke that explains why so many people take part in sport, because of the camaraderie. It is notjust runners, it is so many different athletes of different sports. It is moments like that. Theresa mays so called gamble in calling an early general election looks to some like a wager she cant lose. But to win an increased majority, she needs to avoid two things a lib dem revival and labour resilience despite the opinion polls. Jeremy corbyn has said he would review all aspects of defence if labour won power, including britains trident Nuclear Deterrent. Joining us from westminster is the defence secretary sir Michael Fallon. With the situation labour find themselves in over trident, i know they have given you a free hit over they have given you a free hit over the last 48 hours, but dont you yourselves as a party have questions the answer over seven years of defence cuts . For example, on the number of troops, there was a promising 2010 that it wouldnt go below 82,000, and it has. It isjust below 82,000, and it has. It isjust below 82,000, and it has. It isjust below 82,000 at the moment. But it is either a promise or it is not. Below 82,000 at the moment. But it is either a promise or it is notm was a promise in the manifesto, but the defence budget is rising again now. It has been rising for the last couple of years. It is programmed to rise each year of this parliament. Orare adding rise each year of this parliament. Or are adding strength to the royal navy, we are increasing the Royal Air Force and we are investing in the air planes to fly off the carriers, the frigates, the submarines and the new equipment that our armed forces need. So we are getting bigger defence. While the conservatives are asking labour for clarity on defence, can we ask you about clarity on the conservatives tax policy . Is there going to be a party pledge about not putting up income tax, vat and National Insurance . It at the moment, your party are being a bit woolly on this. You will see the ma nifesto woolly on this. You will see the manifesto in a couple of weeks time that will set out our policy in all these areas, defence, tax, the nhs and everything else. On tax, we are the lower tax party. It is labour governments that put up tax. We have cut tax, particularly for people on the lowest earnings. We have taken 4 Million People out of tax altogether. This month, we have increased the personal tax allowance to £11,500. All our instincts are to get tax as low as possible so that people on the lowest incomes can keep more of what they earn. But you cant take labour that they are not being clear on trident and then given unclear answer on your tax policy. Jeremy corbyn made it clear yesterday that he doesnt support the Nuclear Deterrent. He is not even prepared to authorise raf strikes against terrorists. He has queried our nato deployments, and he is not prepared to tackle immigration. So labour are putting themselves as a risk to the security of this country, in contrast to the strong and stable leadership that theresa may and the conservatives are offering. Forgive me, but the question was about your tax policy. You will see our tax policy in the ma nifesto, you will see our tax policy in the manifesto, but you can also see what we have done in government. We have taken people we have done in government. We have ta ken people out we have done in government. We have taken people out of tax altogether for the lowest paid. We have increased the personal tax allowance and we are the party of low taxation. Yesterday, you promised to cap Energy Prices for two thirds of british households. Isnt that a Labour Policy that you have fiddled with and adopted as your own . No, we have always wanted to make sure that markets work better for working families faced with large bills. We have seen large, arbitrary increases from the Big Six Energy companies. Again, when you see the manifesto, we will be putting out proposals that will protect people against sudden and large increases in their energy bills to make sure that markets work better for consumers. But when a similar policy by labour was suggested, you were the Energy Minister in opposition and you said the idea from labour would freeze new investment and increase the risk of the lights going out. What has changed . Well, they were proposing a freeze. We are not proposing a freeze. We are not proposing a freeze because that means people would not benefit when prices fall. That would have been dangerous and costly. Energy is already highly regulated, and we will be proposing that there should be the power to make sure people are protected against very large increases, and you will see those proposals in detail when the manifesto is published. They are very different from the damaging freeze that label wa nted from the damaging freeze that label wanted a few years ago. There is one important issue which people have been raising ever since theresa may announced the general election of and thats apathy and people who maybe voting on 8thjune dont want another general election. This is what they dont want. There has been so many polls and votes, they dont want to be involved in this again . Well, it is important that we have stability for the next five years and we have an effective majority to secure a successful exit from the European Union. Thats what people voted for last year and one of the biggest turn outs we have ever had and people want to make sure that we have a successful exit that preserves economic co operation and trade with europe, the security co operation we already have with europe and we do so in a way that protects vital british interests. You cant do that unless you have a strong working majority in parliament and that is what we are now campaigning for over the next six weeks you will see the Prime Minister and the rest of us out around the country urging people to get behind this government and give theresa mays leadership the majority in parliament that she needs to be able to look after this countrys long term interests. Sir Michael Fallon, thank you. Its 8. 17am. Youre watching breakfast from bbc news. The main stories french voters have chosen two outsiders Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen to contest the final round of the president ial election. A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a former Royal Navy Officer who was killed after confronting burglars who were trying to steal his car. Heres carol with a look at this mornings weather. This is one of our weather watchers photos. It is from shetland. The last time we had snow late on in april was last year and that was across Northern England. We have it falling this morning. A beautiful picture from shetland. Look at how ominous the cloud looks. Further snow showers to come in the next couple of days. By no means will we all see snow. A few of us that will do and were looking at frosty nights as well. We have got Weather Fronts moving south. Behind this cold front we are pulling in the cold front we are pulling in the cold airona cold front we are pulling in the cold air on a nearly wind, straight down from the arctic and it will be later on that it moves right the away way across our shores. The cloud building. But brightening up behind them, but still there will be some wintriness into the afternoon and a few more of us seeing it this afternoon. So for Northern Ireland you have got sunshine and showers. Any wintriness on the hills. Snow falling at low levels across northern scotland. A lot of dry weather. A cold day. A windy day. Down the east coast of scotland and the Far North East Of England you can expect to see some wintriness coming out of the showers. Some sleet and hail and thunder and lightening, but the rest of Northern England sunshine. The midlands and east anglia, this is where we have got our Weather Front. Cloudy with rain. But it is fairly sporadic and it is the same for south west england. The cloud will continue to build and we are looking at a cloudy afternoon with patchy rain across wales. Through this evening, as that Weather Front pushes away from the south coast and moves across into the Channel Islands the cold air streams in behind it. We continue with the snow across low levels, but we will see wintriness across Northern Ireland and north wales, but again, they are showers so not all of us will catch one. A lot of dry weather and clear skies, so it will be frosty and it will be icy of the so something to watch out for first thing. But there will be a lot of sunshine tomorrow, but tomorrow, a plethora of showers and once again almost anywhere you could see little bit of wintriness in them. Still cold in the northerly wind. So although we have seen temperatures between seven and 11 celsius, if youre exposed to the wined, it will feel colder than the temperatures suggest. As we head on into wednesday, there will be areas of showery rain dotted around. Nothing substantial so if your garden is crying out fort substantial so if your garden is crying out for t we will see dribs and drabs, but not really heavy and temperatures seven to ten celsius, but again we are hanging on to the northerly breeze. As we move on into thursday, still a bit draftee. We have some rain sinking south, but we start to see the temperatures recover and the temperatures will continue to recover as we head into the weekend and the early part of next week, dan and lou. I have never seen the map look that, the plethora of rain, all the little dots everywhere. Thank you very much. See you soon. It is the Little Things sometimes. Yeah. Yeah. At its peak the Make Shift Camp known as Thejungle In Calais was home to 7,000 migrants, most were looking for a route into the uk. Six months ago it was shut down and Authorities Say there are only around 100 migrants still in the french port. But a new report seen exclusively by bbc breakfast puts the figure at four times that with migrants including unaccompanied children Sleeping Rough in calais and paris. Breakfasts Graham Satchell has been to Northern France to see the impact of the camps closure. Six months after thejungle closed, the centre of calais is a picture of calm. Cafe culture at its most serene. The port, so long the destination for migrants is running normally. Lorry traffic is up 10 this year. Its very quiet. Wtih lorries before we had 8,000 migrants per month that we would discover, today that is down to 300. It is nearly nothing. The jungle was home to some 10,000 migrants. It came to be seen by the authorities as a magnet for people wanting to get to britain. So did closing it solve a problem . Ive had bottles, rocks, bricks thrown at the truck. When he crosses the border into france, jacob wont stop. So we caught up with him in belgium. Although its safer getting in and out of france the problem now is that you dont feel safe in more areas of france. It hasnt gone away. It has simply moved the problem. Six in the evening. On the corner of an Industrial Estate in calais, a Nightly Ritual is played out. Charities hand out food and clothes to migrants. Most are teenagers without their parents, like this 15 year old from eritrea. Yes, england. You want to go to england . Yes. And do you have family there . Yes, my uncle. Your uncle is there . Why do you not stay here and claim asylum here in france . I do not like it. You do not like to saty in france . Yes. The report out today from the Refugee Rights data project says there are about 400 migrants in calais today, many sleeping in the woods. Public opinion has hardened for all forms of migration, but Michael Mchugh from the Refugee Youth Service says genuine asylum claims must be heard. It is not about what people want or do not want. We have tens of thousands of children moving across europe. There is a legal right for many of these children to go to the uk. It is being actively obstructed. 30 minutes from calais, this is what is left of another migrant camp near dunkirk. It burnt down after a fight between rival groups of kurds and afghans. This is where many migrants came when thejungle closed. The french government had plans in place to dismantle this camp before the fire. The government wants to pretend that the problem does not exist and their strategy is to destroy the places where people live, thinking that if we destroy their places and they have no places to be they will disappear. Just after seven in calais, the police move in. The french determined another camp will not be established. One of the migrants is arrested. The problem here has been alleviated but not solved. As the weather improves, thousands of migrants are already on the move across the middle east and africa. Many will make it here in the hope of getting to the uk. Lets talk business and stephs been getting an update on what the markets are doing this morning. Yes. The stock markets have just opened. Good morning. London and the north east of england are the only regions in the study where average asking prices are lower than a year ago. When you did first feel like a grown up . You might be able to legally vote and Drink Alcohol at 18, but research from nationwide says its not until the age of 27 that we feel grown up. Adrian dunbar is in the building time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Over the next few days, we will see something more akin to january rather than late april, with wintry showers for some and frosty nights too. The mechanism of change is this Weather Front gradually slumping across the southern half of the British Isles through the rest of the day, introducing much Colder Weather already in residence across the north of scotland. That will come as a shock to the south, whether temperatures for the first half of the day could be pushing towards 13, where we have been for some days. Eventually, the rain will move through wales and east anglia. Behind that, brighter skies until we get to weather feature. It is this one that will pep up the showers, wintry in nature to give a more prolonged spell of snow, gradually slumping across the eastern side of scotland. That may give one or two centimetres at low levels and five centimetres across higher ground. In the south, until that front arrives, temperatures will make double figures. But further north, they could be as low as 2 degrees. Add in the strength of the wind, and it will feel pretty raw. We can com plete will feel pretty raw. We can complete that transition process overnight, with further wintry showers giving snow across Eastern Parts of the British Isles and a noticeable frost and they will start to the day on tuesday. Sunshine, yes, but wintry showers aplenty tumbling their way across northern parts of scotland and down the Eastern Shores of england. If you are sheltered from the northerly breeze, it will not feel much warmer, but you may see fewer showers at and more sunshine. By wednesday, those temperatures are still struggling, and the breeze is still struggling, and the breeze is still out of the north and north west, with further showers to come.
