The range of criminal conduct is really, again, unmatched in any type of scenario that weve seen we are looking at everything from simple trespass to theft of mail to theft of digital devices within the capital to assault and local officers, both inside and outside the capitol to the theft of potential National Security or defence information to felony murder. Before that press conference, the Washington Post was reporting that its seen an internal fbi memo that was filed tuesday the day before the violence. It says protestors were plotting war on the capitol. The memo points to an internet thread which talked of breaking down the doors of congress, advocating violence and ends with the quote we get our president , or we die. That memo contradicts a statement from the head of the Fbis Washington Field Office on friday that there was no prior warnings of the attack. Across america, State Capitols in all 50 states are on high alert, after the fbi warned of further armed protests in the days ahead. Iam i am heartened by what we heard today about the fact they put out a bulletin yesterday alerting the country that this threat continues. Those are the types of things that im used to seeing when we have an incident. Im still puzzled how we went so long without having even a press c0 nfe re nce went so long without having even a press conference for anybody from anybody in the executive branch explaining what happened. The day of the incident, the only official that came out and did what you are used to seeing when we have incidents like this was the mayor of the District Of Columbia, so its a step in trying to get back on the right direction. There are serious questions that will need to be a nswered questions that will need to be answered once we get through this heightened threat period of how no warning was given for the january six attack. Its amazing, its nearly a week since the attack and this is the first time weve heard from officials and we didnt even hear from the head from officials and we didnt even hearfrom the head of from officials and we didnt even hear from the head of those organisations, they sent out deputies to talk to the press. They didnt answer during the press conference, the key question about why they didnt pick this up before and how this was allowed to happen. Do you think well get to those questions . This is the right thing we need to put a clear label on this, this was terrorism, this was sedition, this was an insurrection, so nobody of goodwill happens to accidentally show up at a protest next week for inauguration. What might inform how republicans think ahead of this vote tomorrow is the reporting weve had on the conversation that minority leader Kevin Mccarthy had with the president. Hes a close confidant so the fact that he is pushing back, mccarthy is pushing back on what trump said, the fact that senator Lindsey Graham pushing back on what trump has said, is very telling. These are his closest allies on capitol hill, telling him just stop it. Its notjust what happened last week, its that many of them have been tired of hearing for two months President Trump saying that he still won the election, that he didnt lose, that he needs to fight it. They have said, you can go through those legal processes , said, you can go through those legal processes, go through the lawsuits and recounts, but once thats over, its time to move on. From what im hearing inside the white house for the last week, even after the protests, he hasnt moved on, he still continued to talk about the election and continuing to be very angry about it and wishes there was some way to turn that around so he hasnt taken that advice from Kevin Mccarthy or others to stop talking about this and stop pushing on this. What do you think that means . Well, i think it means that republicans are still weighing up how they should weigh up to these efforts to remove mr trump from office, and the impeachment vote. It suggests some people might decide it is the right thing to do. Now no republican lawmakers have publicly said they would vote for impeachment, but some have said mr trump should go. One senator said he would consider articles of impeachment, and us media are reporting that perhaps a dozen republican lawmakers in the house might vote for impeachment something the democrats are trying to get, at least some support so it doesnt look completely partisan. Theres been this other approach, as you are saying, the Top Republican in the house, Kevin Mccarthy, has talked a motion to censor the president or put together a Bipartisan Commission to look into of the attack. But thats too little, too late by most democrats. According to congressional aides who we re according to congressional aides who were also listening to the call in which liz cheney spoke yesterday, this was a call with mr mccarthy and the republican lawmakers, mr mccarthy urged people not to criticise those who might vote for impeachment because he said that would put them in danger. Apparently hes not formally lobbying them not to vote for impeachment. So it suggests a shift at least its quite different in 2019 when the republicans uniformly opposed any movement against mr trump. What about in the senate . Last time around, one republican, mitt romney, in the trial did vote to remove donald trump, but none of the other republicans did. What are you hearing from the senate side this time . Again, no senator has said that they will support a move to impeach mrtrump, but that they will support a move to impeach mr trump, but they have made comments that they feel mr trump we nt comments that they feel mr trump went too far and he should be removed from office. Only a few, 2 3 have said that sort of thing. But that still leaves open the possibility that they might vote to convict if and when and almost certainly will come to trial in the senate. But it dont make it you need two thirds of the senate to convict, and thats the argument thats been used by those who feel mrtrump thats been used by those who feel mr trump should be punished but feel and impeachment effort willjust divide people more. It wont necessarily lead to his conviction, and it will affect joe necessarily lead to his conviction, and it will affectjoe bidens ability to implement his agenda. The attitude certainly in the house is that democratic lawmakers are not only completely appalled at the attack on democracy and Democratic Institutions from last week, but they also felt fearful for their lives. You have a very real sense of emotion and feelings still about what happened last week, and they wa nt what happened last week, and they want to use whatever tool they have to be able to respond as strongly as they can. So they are trying to do this by invoking constitutional authority, but impeachment is the hardest they can go. Barbara, thank you. There is at least a belief from the minority leader they could do that, and im sure there are other ways they would be able to do it. But its clearly not working. So it could be done. The charge in the article of impeachment is aggressive, as youd expect it to be in the level of anger. But in the subsequent trial in the senate, there will be some things that we dont know. We dont really know, we would need to hear what esther trumps state of mind was, who knew what the risk to the capital was, and what sort of help mr trump denied on the day. Could you get those things together for the trial in the short Time Available . Presumably if the senate were to allow a subpoena of witnesses, which they did not do in the last impeachment, you would be able to get some access to that information. One person whom i would want to call his dance covino, the head of the Digital Media operation, with whom is supposed to be close with donald trump. The question is, did he know about all the online rumblings about rating the capital and violence that a numberof trump rating the capital and violence that a number of Trump Supporters were planning . Did he know that beforehand planning . Did he know that before hand and, if planning . Did he know that beforehand and, if he did, did he relay that information to donald trump . 0r relay that information to donald trump . Ordid anyone relay that information to donald trump . Or did anyone else relay that information to donald trump . But you raise a very good point, and the question is, what did donald trump know about what was going to transpire . During the first uk lockdown last march, an 11 year old boy from devon decided to sleep in a tent to raise funds for a local hospice whod looked after his dying neighbour. Nearly a year later, max woosey is still camping in the garden. Hes raised a Staggering Amount of money and his story is now inspiring others. Jon kay reports. Theres lockdown, and then theres this. Whatever the weather, for nearly a year, max has been camping in his garden. Its been wet, cold, muddy itsjust been miserable, really. He wanted to raise £50 for the north devon hospice. Hes now raised more than £100,000. Im pretty impressed with myself, i have to admit but this is also the story of another boy joe berry from cheshire. He, too, loved camping and helping others. He was amazing. He would just spend hours and hours in the garden, even through the middle of winter. He just loved being outside. Jays condition spiralled rapidly, and he was moved to intensive care. His family were told he might not make it. Its difficult. I had two nurses on the side holding my hand, stroking me, going its ok, and another nurse had my phone next to my ear. It was horrible because my dad doesnt really cry, but my dad is like my bestest friend, hes my superhero. And to hear my dad sob down the phone saying, please, just fight one more day, youve got this your bodys so weak that you cant actually say i love you back. Its just. It messes you up. Youve got your parents crying on the phone, you cant move, doctors are rushing around and you understand you might not survive the night. What is going through your head at the moment . You feel so empty and numb, and worthless. And because all you want is. All you want is to cuddle your family for a moment if you are going to pass, as horrible as it is, you want to be able to hold your family and say goodbye, and have that last final moment with them. So its infuriating to say the least. But united as a union and a community, weve been fighting and standing tall against the unjust orders the mayor has given. There is a huge debate in the uk as well about schools, and whether children should be in schools, because it has such a profound affect on a childs future, their education and well being. Right now its a little over 10 , and still climbing. We are also asking the mayor to invest in our neighbourhoods and to give our parents what they need to be able to survive there things like rent abatement, more counsellors, social and emotional support. We know our students, especially our black and brown students, have been facing an enormous amount of trauma throughout this time, and they need the resources to cope with that. Personally this last weekend, i went through an enormous amount of fear with my mum in the hospital battling covid. Shes gotten better now and her partner still remains on a ventilator. But those are the feelings that we are fighting against we dont want our teachers, our students, our children to be facing that going back to school. I hear you. Generally speaking, this week is milder than it was over the last week or two, but during tuesday, we saw some colder, clearer, sunnier weather moving down across some of the uk. And theres a real battle going on at the moment between that colder air that has moved down from the north and this milder air thats trying to push in from the atlantic. The boundary between the two is this weather front here and thats producing some rain thats moving into the colder air. So theres the real threat of some freezing rain and ice in western scotland and north west england for a while on wednesday morning. That band of rain moves very slowly into scotland and Northern England, stuck across the midlands and into the south east of england. And signs of snow beginning to develop over the Higher Ground in scotland by the end of the day. Its going to be a cold day in scotland, as it will be in northern and many eastern parts of england. It gets milder as you head further south west and into Northern Ireland. This mild atlantic air meaning a lot of cloud and for a while some rain too. Well probably see some more rain continuing into the evening, not just that, though, beginning to see a bit more snow in the high ground in scotland, and perhaps Northern England as well. This weather front is pushing in, but then it sort of stops. It never charges through the uk and it never pushes away that really cold air that weve got in northern and eastern areas, so there will be some more snow continuing, mainly over the hills, on thursday in scotland and in Northern England. Its more likely to be rain elsewhere and it does eventually become dry in Northern Ireland. Turning drier later in western parts of wales and the south west. Windy and mild, temperatures double figures here. Much colder further north and east, with that wintry mix of weather continuing into the evening. Finally, that weatherfront, then, just sort of slides away and diminishes and it turns drier. We await the next weather system coming in from the atlantic. But friday looks like it will be a drier day. Not sure how much sunshine therell be. I think there will be a fair bit of cloud around and well see it turning wetter and windier in Northern Ireland, later western scotland, some slow perhaps over the Higher Ground because its still quite cold in central and eastern scotland. And for many places, temperatures will be a bit lower to end the week. Now, lets head into the weekend. Weve got a bit of a messy weather front thats coming in from the atlantic. Whats thats doing, though, essentially is thickening the cloud, bringing some rain and the winds are going to be strengthening as well. So weve got some windy weather this weekend. We start with cloud, outbreaks of rain widely. That will tend to move away from scotland and Northern Ireland as the winds turn to more of a north westerly instead of a southerly wind. Itll turn cooler here but brighter. England and wales continuing to be cloudy with some rain at times, windy and fairly mild. Temperatures of 8 10 celsius. That lot then pushes away into the continent, into europe, and then were all left with this north westerly airflow for the second half of the weekend. That means a fair bit of sunshine around. Therell be a few showers up towards the far north west. Many places getting away with a dry day. Itll be windy, perhaps gales in northern parts of the uk. Itlljust take the edge off the temperatures and were seeing temperatures around 7 9 celsius. Now lets head into next week and there are more weather systems, more areas of rain to come in from the atlantic, but it looks like they will tend to steerjust to the south of the uk and again head into continental europe. Thats because the jet stream is going to be further south and its buckling as well. This sort of orientation means were in colder air, so temperatures will be lower by day. Theres a risk of frost at night. There may be some icy conditions as well, because were left with an area of low pressure slow moving close to the uk. Not windy, but there will be some showers, those could be of a wintry flavour sleet and snow mainly in the hills.
