starting today? yes, today the government has set out its plan, how it plans to make it easier for people to work flexibly in england, scotland and wales. lots of people had been struggling to make their working patterns for their lives long before the pandemic, but the last 18 months has really changed the conversation about the way we work. so what are they proposing? everyone would have they proposing? everyone would have the right to ask for some kind of flexible arrangement on the first day of theirjob. at the moment, you have got to have been somewhere for six months before you can even start that conversation. the kind of thing you can ask for, it is notjust being able to work from home, it is things like going part—time, job sharing, compressed hours, so doing longer but perhaps fewer days and it is notjust office workers working from home, it could affect millions of people in all different kinds of industries. it is important to point out these plans only give workers the right to ask for flexible working, your boss can still say no
