Parties tojoin her and contribute as she signals a change in style a year after taking office. Britains andy murray and Johanna Konta are both through to the last eight at wimbledon Britains Andy Murray and Johanna Konta are both through to the last eight at wimbledon. Its five oclock. A man who confessed to be an ira bomb maker admits he was part of the Group Responsible for the Birmingham Pub Bombings in 197a. He says he was an active volunteer when 21 people we re an active volunteer when 21 people were killed. One year after the bombings six men were wrongfully convicted and to date no one has been convicted. Today Michael Hayes apologised to the families of the victims but refused to say what role he played. Families of the victims have described this as insulting. Lets speak to our ireland correspondent chris buckler. The pub bombings were one of the most notorious attacks ever committed in britain during the long yea rs of committed in britain during the long years of the troubles and later one of the most infamous miscarriages of justice with six men known as the Birmingham Six convicted before they we re Birmingham Six convicted before they were overturned. Another man has now came forward and said he was a part of the ira gang responsible for those explosions in november 1974, explosions that clause 21 deaths. While he has apologised it is likely the relatives will be angry when they hear some of the contents of they hear some of the contents of the interview, in particular that he will not say hes he will not say what role he played in those attacks. The bombs were left in the heart of birmingham on a thursday night. Placed in pubs to cause destruction and create terro. An evening that saw scores injured and 21 people murdered. Now, four decades on, a man has finally admitted he was part of the ira Group Responsible for the bombing. I was a participant in the iras activities In Birmingham. How clear can i make it . Did you plant the bombs . I was a participant in the iras campaign in england. You are not answering the question. Did you plant the bombs . I have given you the only answer i can give you. He is a known irish republican. He took part in this funeral for a Hunger Striker in the 1970s and he admits to having been an ira bomb maker. He repeatedly refused to say what role he played in the bombing of birmingham. Although he told bbc Northern Ireland he took collective responsibility for it. I apologise for all republicans who had no intention of hurting anybody and sympathise with you. The relatives again will say you have blood on your hands. I know they will say that. From their Point Of View i can justify that. I dont shed my responsibility in that direction. A group of men were charged and found guilty of the bombing, but it was a famous miscarriage of justice. The convictions of the men who became known as the Birmingham Six, were eventually overturned. For 16 and a half years we have been used as political scapegoats new inquests are being held into the deaths of the 21 people killed. Many relatives have always made clear they want prosecutions, not apologies. You have murdered 21 people all you have got is sorry. What about, i did it, im handing myself in . That might help. An apology . Please, dont insult us. He avoided many questions but he claims mistakes led the ira to give Bomb Warnings too late, and he personally defused a third bomb left in Birmingham City centre that night. The explosions were horrific, they were terrible. It shocked the ira. When we found out what happened, we defused the third bomb. Who defused it . Idid. But two bombs did explode In Birmingham and no one has been held legally responsible for the resulting murders that should not and will not be forgotten. Many will question his motivation for coming forward to what the real deal will also have another concern, they are waiting for new inquests to properly begin into the deaths and has already been over that with the collar about making it clear they will not be looking at suspects and some families may well ask if there is new information out there and if Michael Hayes, for example, has information then perhaps that should be investigated. And you can see more on that Story Tonight In A Special Programme who bombed birmingham . At 11 30 here on bbc news, and viewers in Northern Ireland can also watch at 10 40 tonight on bbc one. The parents of charlie gard have returned to the high court, as fresh medical evidence is heard about their terminally ill son, who is being cared for at Great Ormond Street Hospital. An earlier ruling supported the view of his doctors that nothing could be done to improve his quality of life, and they should be allowed to switch off his life support systems. Butjudges will now evaluate new unpublished data about an experimental treatment which his parents want their 11 month old son to receive. Our correspondent Daniela Relph reports. For charlie gards parents, todays Court Hearing offers some hope, when they thought all hope had gone. The court will hear fresh submissions this afternoon about the experimental treatment available. Lawyers say the parents want to take him to america for treatment. The hospitals legal team says there is nothing more they can do to help to treat charlie. Thejudge said, there is not a person alive who would not want to save charlie. If you bring new evidence to me and i consider it changes the situation, i will be the first to welcome that outcome. Great ormond street, e;u~am,\; 4 h e afi ~ f f we are hoping thejudge sees it is worth a chance. He said last time it was futile and it clearly is not futile, he has a chance, and charlie deserves that chance. He has been lying there for months and he should have been given this chance. So far everyjudge to hear this case, right up to the European Court of human rights, has ruled against the wishes of charlies family and in favour of great ormond street. His parents believe the new treatment could prolong his life and should be explored. For doctors, the situation is both a medical and moral dilemma. Medical science has moved on a long way and it feels like there is always an expectation of cure, of sending out completely normal again. Sadly that is not the case. We only wish we did have all those therapies to sort all of those things. As the legal system once again decides what happens next, 11 month old charlie gard remains on a ventilator in hospital. Doctors say he cannot see 01 move and any treatment would be futile. But his parents think differently and believe their son is not in pain, nor is he suffering. They want him to be given one last chance. It appears the judge will make a ruling on this case later in the week. Our correspondent, keith doyle, is outside the high court now. We are also waiting for a Family Spokesperson to give a statement on behalf of charlie gards patents. Keith, it obviously very emotional and upsetting, this case, but the judge made it clearfor him to change his mind and allow charlie gard to be taken to the usa for this experimental treatment they would have two be rather stunning evidence he would have two here. Yes, mr Justice Francis said this afternoon he needed to hear something dramatic and new to make him change his mind. He did not want to see is said thatis he did not want to see is said that is no one alive who does not wa nt to that is no one alive who does not want to save charlie and his welfare is paramount. But he questioned whether any of this new treatment proposed by the family, whether it was possible to reverse profound brain damage. He said in order to be effective it would need to do that. The legal team for charlie gards family said there was some evidence that in some cases it did improve brain damage. I am outside the high court at the moment and it is very noisy, there is a protest going on and were waiting for the family of charlie gard to come out and a spokesperson to give a statement. The lawyers for the of Charlie Gard Wa Nted the lawyers for the of charlie gard wanted an order allowing them to remove him from Great Ormond Street Hospital and said new evidence shows experimental treatment could produce what they were calling improvement but whether the judge has what they were calling improvement but whether thejudge has been convinced of that or not we do not know. He said the case will continue on thursday. Clearly have the adverts publicity this and the added publicity the chasers gained is due to the intervention of the pope and president trump, no less. Two of the highest people that could possibly interfere or have made the pass comment. The President Of The Usa and pope francis. So without the intervention i think the wave of public support the family felt between that and the American Government clearly wanted to give to them, that has brought about this further stage. We know tomorrow there will be a vote in the us congress to make charlie gard the us citizen which would help in their case to allow him to get treated, should mrJustice Francis decides he can be released from Great Ormond Street Hospital. Yeah, a couple of republican senators are pushing for this change in legislation to allow charlie gard to become us citizen and perhaps get this treatment. I mentioned the pope and president trump, is also this intervention by a group of scientists who sent a letter which they made public was suggested this treatment could be fruitful for charlie, if he receives it. This is a letter sent sent from seven prominent doctors and scientists which said this treatment does have some sort of effectiveness and it is possible it could help charlies condition. That is what thejudge must decide, whether the treatment of the art talking about is something new or something that has already been considered at an earlier stage of this process and thejudge must decide if earlier stage of this process and the judge must decide if this earlier stage of this process and thejudge must decide if this really is new evidence. We will leave it there. Thank you. Speaking above the crowds they are, all saying they believe the high court should rule in favour of charlie gards family. We expect a spokesperson for the family, they may be giving a statement in the next few minutes and when we get it we will try to bring it to you on bbc news. Contribute, dontjust criticise, thats the message from theresa may to Opposition Parties at the beginning of a week which marks her First Anniversary as Prime Minister. The first secretary of state, damien green, said it was a grown up way of doing politics. Labour says the Prime Minister has run out of ideas. Theresa may outlined her approach at a Press Conference with the australian Prime Minister a little earlier today. The government has got an ambitious agenda to address the big challenges the country faces and one is getting the brexit negotiations right. There are other challenges we face as well. The public will want us to get the broadest possible consensus in looking at those issues. I did this as Home Secretary on counterterrorism measures, working with other Political Parties to ensure we got that legislation right. I did it on the modern slavery act and working with other parties to ensure that went onto the statute book. If you look at some of the issues we will address in the future, Matthew Taylors report is coming out tomorrow and i asked him to do that not long after becoming Prime Minister, to look at the gig economy, to look at the changing world of work in the uk, to ensure we have got those workers protections right. Who would not want to work to ensure that workers had the best possible rights and protections in the workplace as it changes . Who would not want to work with us to ensure we have got the right counterterrorism powers and capabilities in place . There is another issue that has come up recently through the general election, this whole question of the abuse and harassment and bullying that people suffered in the general election. A number of mps have identified it happened to them. Yvette cooper is clear we need to address this, and we need to Work Together to find a way to ensure that sort of behaviour which was targeted not just at candidates, but at others during the election, we have to make sure the message goes out that that has no role in our democracy. Our chief Political Correspondent vicki young is in westminster where the Prime Minister has been making a statement to mps about the G20 Summit Last week. Theresa may is putting a brave face on her political predicament but the fa ct on her political predicament but the fact is she has had to cobble together a deal with the Democratic Unionist Party and now reaching out to Opposition Parties to get anything done. For some, to Opposition Parties to get anything done. Forsome, it feels like a anything done. Forsome, it feels likea sign anything done. Forsome, it feels like a sign of desperation. That is what her political opponents think. Heard people say she is accepting the new reality that she does not a majority so is forced to work with others. She is trying to say she is taking a mature approach and the public liked the idea of people working together to tackle difficult issues. Issues such as social care and other long term problems that one government or another will have to tackle. Her problem is the alliances formed at the moment here are mainly ones are working against her, Conservative Mps who want a softer kind of brexit or to stay in the single market, working together with the snp and labour mps. It worked before in a formal coalition with David Cameron and the Liberal Democrats had a system, fully together, they have liberal democrat ministers, be made all the decisions together to get things done but that is not what she is talking about, she is almost saying to labour you have to help me. We got the most seats, therefore we have to get things done. There is little sign from labour they will go along with that. The conservatives whips are doing this Balancing Act because theresa may is so weak, it is being suggested at the moment, we whips also how to deal with the racism row a p pa re ntly also how to deal with the racism row apparently come up concerning the Conservative Mp Anne Marie Morris. This is Anne Marie Morris, a conservative backbencher. She is not particularly well known but seems to have been recorded by the Huffington Post at the meeting about brexit, there were parked order Conservative Mps ona there were parked order Conservative Mps on a panel discussing what will happen over the next couple of years on brexit and she seems to have made a racist comment and using offensive language. Lets listen. What happens if there is no deals bleep. A conservative spokesperson said this language is totally unacceptable and they are investigating. They said they will meet to discuss it further and whether they will take action. Anne marie morris has apologised unreservedly and said the comment was totally unintentional. I do not think people will accept her simply apologising and already one of her conservative colleagues hagar alan tweeted saying an apology is not enough. There is a possibility, the chief whip may withdraw the whip which means she is effectively suspended from the party. That is problematic for two reason me as she does not have a majority anyway and to lose another mp does not help her but on the other hand she could have a temporary suspension. It is absolutely not what theresa may once on her plate right now. Whats on her plate. 255 people survived the Grenfell Tower fire thats the first time such a figure has been given by the metropolitan police. As a result, estimates of the the number of dead and missing, remains at approximately 80. With me is our Home Affairs Correspondent tom symonds. A lot of people will still not believe these figures. Absolutely andi believe these figures. Absolutely and i think that started with the suggestion early on in this crisis that there were five or 600 People Living in Grenfell Tower. I know one person in particular, a local councillor said that. Today the police say they think the figure was 350 people that should have been living in the tower at the time and they believe about 14 people were out that night. That leaves 336 people they believe as potential victims. They split to two to two groups, 255 people managed to escape and 80 or81 groups, 255 people managed to escape and 80 or 81 people were killed or are missing as a result. Those are not finalfigures are missing as a result. Those are not final figures and it will be down to the coroner to decide the final figures. Down to the coroner to decide the finalfigures. That is down to the coroner to decide the final figures. That is the way the Police Currently see it and say their investigation has been very detailed and are confident of those figures. There is lots more work to be done. And it is horrendous work, sifting through the rubble and debris from all of those flats. Looking at this stage for parts of human bodies. The bodies that have been removed are being subjected to ct scanning to make sure they know exactly whether there is, for example, jewellery and glasses or any kind of evidence of Surgery Glasses or any kind of evidence of surgery that might help them identify those bodies. The man leading the investigation gave us an interview earlier. Those of us involved in the investigation and waiver Operation Cannot help but have an emotional attachment to the case. And we are determined, absolutely determined, to do everything we possibly can. The fire at Grenfell Tower should never have happened, it is ourjob to investigate it. We will do with the evidence takes us. We will look at all available fences with in criminal law and if we identify evidence an individual or organisation has committed a criminal offence we will do what we can to bring those people or organisations to justice. He said they arent looking at 60 Different Companies involved in new management, refurbishment of the building and they say they have seized lots of data and also a vast amount of documentation and they will go where the evidence leads which may involve looking at criminality, any criminal acts that may have led to those deaths and they say they will be fully investigated by the police. Thanks. Johanna konta has become the first british women to reach the Quarter Finals of wimbledon in 33 years with a hard fought win over Frances Caroline garcia. Andy murray hasjoined andy murray has joined her in the last eight with a straight sets win over frenchman beniot paire. It is the first time in 44 years a man and a woman have both made it to the last eight at wimbledon. A british man and woman. What a fantastic day for british tennis. It is. And John Anaconda had a fabulous match. It was back and forward and she held on so well what a terrific performance. The ladies cis so a terrific performance. The ladies c is so wide open, she has a chance of winning. The bookies have her as favourite. She is definitely one of them. Venus williams has been around a long time and some others but she is playing great. She had lots of good and tight matches which means she is match fit and that can be good so when another one comes along you know how to handle rather than playing easy matches. The world number one is out so the path is perhaps clearing forJohanna Konta. She is playing great and it is hard to go to the big stage on centre court, big courts, the pressure because you are british and doing so well at all the things about the First Time Since 40 years or whatever. Thatll bring extra pressure but she handled it very well and i have no doubt she will give it her all and she has a very good chance. Andy murray, convincing win today but still struggling, some suggest. You never know with andy because he has that funny gate a nyway because he has that funny gate anyway and it is hard to tell if hes injured or not. But today the other guy gave up so he had a pretty good run and good draw so he is there. Rafa nadal is losing two sets to love so he has got a great chance to love so he has got a great chance to win again. David, we will leave that they are. Good to talk to you. All the Iraqi Government says that the city of mosul has been liberated from so called Islamic State, three years after it was first occupied by the extremists. The second largest city in iraq was where is declared its caliphate in 2014. Since then, its grip on territory seen here in red has been gradually reduced in iraq and in syria. In the last nine months its been targeted in mosul by the iraqi army, backed by us and Coalition Air strikes and has lost Ground Street By street, but pockets of resistance from is militants are still reported within the old city, as our correspondent Jonathan Beale reports. Thatis that is a coalition of stroke but has just that is a coalition of stroke but hasjust gone in. We are at the front line Coalition Air strike. This is one of the last pockets of is resistance. They are is snipers up is resistance. They are is snipers up there, they reckon around 200, 300. But you can see the devastation around here, from the heavy fighting. Every car and around here, from the heavy fighting. Every Carand Building wrecked. Even though the iraqi Prime Minister said they are on the verge of victory, in his words, there is still a battle ahead, there is still is fighters out there and the battle for a is not over. A lets speak to Stephanie Remion emergency coordinator for Medecins Sans Frontieres in mosul who has been in the city today. She joins me on webcam from the iraqi town of hamman al alil, which is around 30km from mosul. What were your impressions of the city when you were there . It isa city when you were there . It is a desolate spectacle, the whole city is destroyed, infrastructure is destroyed, most of the hospitals have been destroyed during the conflict. Its quite difficult to see, most of the people have a very difficult access accessing health care. One of the only two operational hospital is focusing on life saving procedures, which shows you the state of the city. The bombardment has been devastating for the people there, what are the kinds of problems they have had to endure and you are now dealing with . What we see from the patients, with war related injuries, blast wounds, bullet wounds, burns from explosions, we have a lot of patience with extreme exhaustion, dehydration, malnutrition. They are very traumatised and willing to tell stories. Stephanie, thank you for joining us. The iraqi Prime Minister in the last couple of minutes has formally declared victory in the battle with Islamic State in the city of mosul. His Office Tweeted the declaration of victory from an Operations Centre at the Heart Of The City and see is due to deliver a speech shortly. The Iraqi Government now formally declaring victory in the battle against the Islamic State and in retaking the city of mosul. Lets go back to theresa mays speech where she talked about Opposition Parties needing to contribute a little bit more and be less critical in trying to deal with her and her government. This is of course on the one Year Anniversary of her becoming Prime Minister. First full, would you make of theresa mays attempt to reach across the aisle to the other Opposition Parties . |j across the aisle to the other Opposition Parties . I think a lot of people will welcome that. A lot of people, when you knock on doors and talk to people, same that they wish you would talk to each other and Work Together more. Social care is a good example of an issue we should Work Together on, we have been talking about for a decade and now we need to get on and do it. Together cross party support, come up together cross party support, come up with a plan that will work for everybody and that we can all agree on, ithink everybody and that we can all agree on, i think that would be a very good idea. Iwould on, i think that would be a very good idea. I would see more of that sort of work when it comes to brexit. I particularly want to see the 48 , who in many ways i felt excluded from this, for them to now be part of a coming together, to work out exactly what we want, what sort of deal we want, to make sure that we get the very best deal for everybody in our country and for generations to come. You have alluded their to your differences, perhaps, with theresa may, and the way that she was leading, some would argue, the brexit negotiations. There is also your criticism, or at least your calls, perhaps, for a look at the 1 Public Sector pay cap. When theresa may reaches out to Opposition Parties, shes also reaching out to her own backbenchers, people like you, to stop criticising her and stop attacking. I dont really like that. I dont know about the one presenting, im absolutely clear about that the 1 thing. These things are Una Nswerable about that the 1 thing. These things are unanswerable but you have to work out where the money will come from. That is my concern about taking the cap off the 1 for Public Sector work, where do you get the money from . I think of the things we have got to see is a proper debate so have got to see is a proper debate so you have got to see is a proper debate so you can have got to see is a proper debate so you can explain to people why it is not just a so you can explain to people why it is notjust a simple assay, or well just abolish tuition fees, just raise the cap, the abbey and the date you have to recover the money will come from. There are consequences. Raising taxes is often not a good thing to do, and equally, wring more money is not the right thing to do either. So that is an issue. But i think shes actually talking about some of the other issues, like i say, social care, and i absolutely welcome that. I think shes right to pass down the gau ntlet shes right to pass down the ga u ntlet to shes right to pass down the gauntlet to the labour party and say, especially to the leadership of the labour party, saying, set aside some of your tribe, dogmatic approaches, which is a feature of some of the hard extreme left and say, and your actual work with the government on some of the big issues like social care . Finally, id like you have heard about one of your collea g u es you have heard about one of your colleagues on the back bench, Anne Marie Morris, the mp for newton abbot in devon, making a racist comment in a speech. Which has been rather good sized by many. What is your view on that . Its appalling. Its your view on that . Its appalling. Its the very worst word, most deeply offensive word and horrible word, that anybody can use. I apologise on her behalf. Because you should never have used that expression, she should never have used that word. Nobody should. Its marble. Should she was the whip . That is for her to work up with the whips, but i would be supplied if you didnt. I would be surprised if she didnt. If youre looking for a word to describe the weather, change by think would cover it for this week. Warm, dry weather, in some places but showers in some places. Across east anglia, we have seen some quite vicious downpours and thunderstorms, also in parts of the midlands and Northern England. These will break for a time before turning to fade away this evening. But over the change overnight, come from us, bringing splashes of patchy rain. Addiction and the Northern Ireland and scotland, it showers and equal than fresher knife burst of us. Tomorrow, we will see really wet weather is parts of Southern England and the south of wales. Uncertainty about how much rain will get into the midlands and Northern England, but some will. Northern ireland and scotland, another day of sunshine and showers, but temperatures lower than they have been. 14 to 20 degrees, that is a feature of the weather throughout this week. Call them fresher, rain at times but some sunshine as well. Thats the weather at times all the weather for me. Lets go back to one of our top stories, now. Of the terminally ill baby, charlie gard. Give us up to date with the latest the family had gone back on . Were rooting for the family of charlie gard, and this book person to give a state meant. Today, the family were in court, they wanted to get the court to give an order allowing them to move 11 month old charlie gard from Great Ormond Street Hospital where hes been treated. They say new evidence shows that what they call experimental treatment could produce what they call dramatic clinical improvement. Now, mr Justice Francis, who is hearing the case, says he needs to hear something dramatic and new to make him change his mind. He did Go On In Court to say there is no one alive who did not want to save charlie, his welfare is of paramount consideration. Thank you for that update. We will bring you any more development as soon as we get them on bbc news. Now, time for all the sports news. Hugh has the details. Theres both a british man and woman through to the Quarter Finals at wimbledon for the First Time Since 1973. They are of course andy murray and Johanna Konta, who made her own piece of history today, too. Lets cross to the All England Club and join hugh woozencroft. Hugh, well start with andy murray, whos made the last eight in the hour. He has indeed. It is now ten consecutive years that andy murray has reached the quarterfinals here at wimbledon. He did it with a straight sets win over frances benoit paire. A very convincing win for murray. He was on court for around two and a half hours. He will be looking forward to placing some querrey, next up, but there could be good news for him on the way. Raphael dell, raphael dell is now trailing Gilles Muller from luxembourg. Nadal, we will see if you can turn things around in that match. But we should mentionJohanna Konta, of course. She hasjoined marie in the quarterfinals. The first time a woman has been in the last eight any one time, a very good win over caroline garcia. She will face the number two seed, simona halep, next. They test forJohanna Konta here at wimbledon, but she will be overjoyed. As you say, 90s and today, the last time that two british players have made the last eight huw edwards wooden. 90s 73. Manchester united have completed the signing of striker Romelu Lukaku on a five Year Contract from everton for a fee reported to be an initial £75 million. Thats all sport for now. Back to one of our top stories, and the case of the terminally ill baby, charlie gard. The judge has said he will hear the case in full on thursday, but that something dramatic and new would be needed to grant charlies parents the right to send their baby to the us for treatment. Professor neena modi is president of the Royal College of paediatrics and child health. We can speak to her via webcam from italy. Thanks forjoining us. This is an upsetting case for everyone. And certainly, one has two consider what is going through the minds of the surgeons and the doctors and professionals at great ormond street Childrens Hospital as they deal with all this, too. Absolutely right. These sorts of situations are very, very distressing, very tragic. I would echo mrJustice Franciss words that there will not be a person anywhere in the world who does not wish the best for this little boy and is not feeling for the distress and the grief that his pa rents the distress and the grief that his parents must be suffering. But situations such as this, and of light situations, end of life, are sadly not uncommon in paediatrics and it is something that many paediatricians have to deal with in their day to day work. We are very with in their day to day work. We are very fortunate, therefore, to have a clear framework under which we have an obligation and a duty to practice. Indeed. But this is a case, as you practice. Indeed. But this is a case, as you say, this happened from time to time and it is very u nfortu nate, time to time and it is very unfortunate, but this is a case that has garnered the involvement of the american senate, the president of the united states, and the pope. Who are, essentially, calling into question the veracity of the findings of your colleagues. Question the veracity of the findings of your colleagueslj question the veracity of the findings of your colleagues. I am not sure that that is necessarily the case. I think what we are seeing isa the case. I think what we are seeing is a huge outpouring of sympathy from around the world. And an outpouring that isnt entirely understandable. And as a reflection of the fact that everyone feels for this family in this very, very tragic and difficult circumstance. Be that as it may, it is only the family, the little boys closest carers, his health care carrots, and now, of course, the court that are fully pretty to all the details of this case. Privy to all the details. We dont know what all the details. We dont know what all the details of this condition are, and it is way inappropriate first to be commenting on decisions that are made by people they have an absolute obligation, both under their ethical duty to practice medicine, but also the way they practice under the law. There is no doubt that the paediatricians, the Health Care Team looking after this little boy, will be acting in his best interests. That is what they are obliged to do. Indeed. Do you believe that there are any lessons that may be drawn from this case at the moment . Concerning the relationship between pa rents, concerning the relationship between parents, the doctors, the quotes that might perhaps help any future situation. Yes, i think, that might perhaps help any future situation. Yes, ithink, again, that might perhaps help any future situation. Yes, i think, again, the British Public will know and possibly the wider public around the world will know that of course, tragic situations such as these are not uncommon. But it is very, very rare for a case to actually be taken to the court and what this reflects is the fact that there is an irreconcilable difference of opinion that has arisen, that does happen sometimes, and under those circumstances, we have a process to follow. Which is to be bound by the rule of law and hence the involvement of the courts. It was good of you to spare some time from northern initially, there, thank you very much forjoining us. Not at all, thank you. Breaking news that has just come in, teachers pay will apparently stay capped at 1 , that is from the department for. The government is sticking to its Public Sector wage restraint, certainly as far as teachers are concerned, their wages will remain capped at 1 . The Education Secretary was suggesting that perhaps that pay cap could relax as far as her department was concerned but no, the department has made it clear and the government has made it clear and the government has made it clear that when it comes to teachers, police, their pay will remain at 1 . The Public Sector pay cap remain at 1 . The Public Sector pay ca p stays remain at 1 . The Public Sector pay cap stays in place. When it constituted, at least. President trumps team has made it clear he didnt know that his eldest son and son in law had met a russian lawyer who, during last years president ial election campaign, claimed to have damaging information about Hillary Clinton. Donald trump junior insists no meaningful information was provided about her. Our correspondent Anthony Zurcher is in washington. Just fill us in on this latest twist on the alleged involvement of the Trump Campaign and the russians. Well, we found out yesterday in the New York Times that this meeting in the Trump Tower Injune did take place, the people who were there we re place, the people who were there were a russian lawyer with ties to the russian government, and donald trump junior, donald trump the russian government, and donald trumpjunior, donald trump haas son. Jarrod kushner, his son in law, and also the Campaign Care at the time of Donald Trumps president ial bid. And at that meeting, they discuss possible damaging information that could hurt Hillary Clinton, who was a mind to become the democratic president ial nominee. This was the first time that we have seen hard evidence that during the heat of the campaign, members of the inner circle of Donald Trumps president ial campaign were meeting with a Foreign National to talk about Hillary Clinton. Now, while this isnt a smoking gun of collusion, it does show that the Trump Campaign was in the market for damaging information and you got to remember the subsequent weeks and months after that, we found out that russian operatives had hacked democratic e mails and they began policing that information, that cause a lot of trouble for Hillary Clinton and the democrats during the campaign. And what does donald trump junior say about all this . He said this morning. First law, ishould say come on friday, he said they didnt discuss anything related to the campaign. He said they talked about adoption issues and sanctions on russia. One that story got undercut, partly by sources within the white house, on sunday, he made that statement you alluded to, talking about, no Key Information was revealed, nothing damaging to Hillary Clinton was revealed. And though he went into the meeting thinking that something might be shared. Today, he sent out a statement saying, welcome every campaign does this. Every campaign tries to dig up dirt on an opponent, its nothing unusual. Well it is true, every campaign does what is called opposition research, usually thatis called opposition research, usually that is not conducted by people sourcing your in an operation. You dont see the Campaign Chairman sitting down to meet with a possible source. Probably because you dont wa nt source. Probably because you dont want this kind of story getting out, where people in the inner circle are connected to unsavoury elements or questionable, questionable meetings. So he flipped up on that. And there is also doing the rounds eight weeks that donald trump it out on the day of the meeting. A tweet. That donald trump it out on the day of the meeting. A tweet. On the day of the meeting, you. Donald trump said that he was great to be giving a meeting in the coming weeks to reveal damaging information about Hillary Clinton. At the time, remember when that which came out, eve ryo ne remember when that which came out, everyone use packed up and thought he was going on the offensive. Knowing that meeting took place, you can see it in a different light. The speech got pushed back and never happened the way you said it was going to happen, but at the time, it did look like a transfer donald trump to expose damaging information about Hillary Clinton. An update on the Market Numbers for you heres how londons and frankfurt ended the day. Its its been a good day for british tennis. Andy murray, the british tennis. Andy murray, the british tennis mens number one, and Johanna Konta, the british womans number one, are both through to the last eight of this years tournament. It is the first time we have a man and a woman into the quarterfinals at wimbledon since the mid 70s. John, good to see you, a fantastic day for british tennis and evenJohanna Konta has being suggested as a possible winner, now that the number one seed Angelique Kerber result . Absently. I think it is all eyes now onjohanna absently. I think it is all eyes now on Johanna Konta. Absently. I think it is all eyes now onJohanna Konta. A british man and a british woman into the quarterfinals for the First Time Since 1973. And i think, now, it is high expectations, thatJohanna Konta could go on and win the title this year, the absence of some of the big names. Angelique kerber, as you say, the finalist here last year, is out. She was beaten by garbine muguruza. Others have now exited the tournament. And i think it does play intoJohanna Konta s hands. She has a tough quarterfinal two, against simona halep of remaining, who remains the top seed left in the womans brawl. Someone left in the womans brawl. Someone halep of romania. Butjoanna contact Johanna Konta someone halep of romania. Butjoanna contact Johanna Konta has real focus and determination, and i think that has been noted. But lets remember, of course, she reached the semifinals of the french open last year and since then has been on an u pwa rd year and since then has been on an upward curve. I think a lot of people are suggesting this could be your anacondas time. People are suggesting this could be your anacondas time. Exciting times in the womans sides. What about the men . Andy murray got through today, but a lot of people are suggesting hes not quite at his sharpest. I sold tweets from tim henman is guessing hes not a peakfitness. Its guessing hes not a peakfitness. Its hard to tell with andy murray, it such as the way he carries himself up in court. He lumbers around that a little sluggish but it is hard work out whether that is just murray and the way he carries on self willie hes struggling. We now he had hit problems coming into this tournament, it kept out of some warm up matches. By the way he carried himself in the opening rounds, he looked ok. He gave us a shocking milos raonic and Fabio Fognini when he dropped a set, his first dropped out. A shop in his first dropped out. A shop in his first round against fognini. But his match today, against benoit paire, he came through in straight sets, a composed performance from andy murray. And he was due to meet nadal in the semifinals, a potentially tough matchup, Campbell Mike is struggling now and is down against his current opponent. Nadal is struggling. So the draw is opening offer andy murray, its an exciting time in british tennis. Between your anaconda and andy murray, its good to be fascinating second week. BetweenJohanna Konta and murray. Wimbledon, of course, indicative of this country. Thomas gainsboroughs paintings are as well stop Thomas Gainsborough was one of the most famous portrait and landscape painters of the eighteenth century. Among his masterpieces are cornard wood and mr mrs andrews. Now, 25 sketches he drew as a young man have been discovered in the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle that had been wrongly attributed to another artist. Our Arts Correspondent Rebecca Jones reports. The blue boy. One of Thomas Gainsboroughs most famous portraits, painted in 1770. He was the most important british artist of the second half of the 18th century. Yet few of his early drawings were thought to have survived until now. Theyve lain undiscovered in this album, on a shelf here in the print room at Windsor Castle, for more than a hundred years. In 1874 Queen Victoria wrote to the studio of Edwin Landseer asking if she could have some of his drawings, hed died the previous year. And she was sent two albums of drawings, and she then had them bound up into this victorian binding, and its been kept here in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle since that time. And so, perhaps, its no wonder that the 25 Chalk Sketches inside the album were thought to be by landseer. And then the historian Lindsay Stainton was sent a box of photos of the drawings, and she decided a big mistake had been made. I was looking at boxes and boxes of photographs, and i thought, oh, illjust have a look through these. And ijustjumped up from my chair, and said to myself, good god, thats a study for cornard wood, and all these are early gainsborough drawings. And this sketch of cornard wood, near sudbury in suffolk, is the compelling evidence that proves the drawings are by gainsborough. When its laid over the finished picture, it matches completely. So the drawing is covered with this grid of lines, which is how gainsborough transferred the composition from the small scale of the drawing to the large scale of the painting. This was his preparatory study. And its as if were present in the studio with him, which is a rather wonderful thought. There was also a surprise. A drawing of the head of a young woman was discovered on the back of one of the sketches. Its even been suggested this could be gainsboroughs future wife. All the pictures can now be viewed online, on the Royal Collection website. Rebecca jones, bbc news. And the art historian Lindsay Stainton is here with me now. You said you jumped out of your chair . I did. I was you said you jumped out of your chair . I did. Iwas pretty surprised. Pretty surprised was there any inkling . I mean, was something that had been rumoured about, talked about . |j something that had been rumoured about, talked about . I have to admit, iwas about, talked about . I have to admit, i was sent some photographs used before, little tiny photographs, and i was asked my opinion. And i said i thought they we re opinion. And i said i thought they were mid 18th century, perhaps if other were gainsborough. Were mid 18th century, perhaps if otherwere gainsborough. Perhaps a follower of gainsborough. But then i looked at them, really carefully, after years in between of training my eye, and knowing more and more, and whenl my eye, and knowing more and more, and when i looked at them a second time, i suddenly realised the significance of them. Wedding you look gather more closely the first time . Ata look gather more closely the first time . At a wedding you . And looked at them closely, but in the intervening period, i had made more discoveries and recognise the same style and way of marking a drawing that i then saw when i booked a second time at these photographs. And then, of course, i was after windsor straightaway. To break the event as. What was the response . think there was a prize. As a surprise, ill. They were surprised, pleasantly surprise, i hope. The fact that in a collection as exporters the Royal Library, new things can be discovered, think that is good for the collection. And landseer isnt exactly a germanic he was a pretty good painter sima of course. How much are the worst . Are they worth . He was a prolific draughtsman, but they are very beautiful. Landseer was more proficient in oils than as a draughtsman. I suppose if landseer s work to turn up, they would be of great interest, but it was so neglected to find 18th century drawings masquerading as 19th century drawings. It was so unexpected. You must be very happy, were happy to have you here. Thank you forjoining us. We have some Breaking News for you concerning the Conservative Mp andrew morris. Bring is date . Anne marie morris.
