that includes the 48 hour week could be ripped apart under plans that are being drawn up by the government. there has been the newly appointed secretary of state. has rebuked this already he's tweeted that the, regarding the story... they pretty quick to release a statement on things. because of course this is one of the, when it comes to the level playing field in the post—brexit trade deal. let's get your perspective on this, kate. quite a few issues going on with this one. pm quite a few issues going on with this one. * , , quite a few issues going on with this one. * ,, ~ , , this one. an time for topics used as an emblem of eu red tape. if we don't have to ride by the 48 hour work week any more than that's a really apparently great news for a business in the uk. it's something that's often been used to try and highlight how restrictive eu has been. the thing about the 48 hour working week is that people in the uk are actually able to opt out anyway. it's not something that's been strictly placed on us. although many people to abide by it. you are well entitled to opt out of this system. so if we go back to the main story basically the government is wanting to essentially deregulate the working arrangements and the things that are tied to the eu at the moment. the new business secretary, i thought was very interesting he does deny that they don't want to undermine any workers' rights. but he didn't entirely deny the story that they're about to look at things like 48 hour working weeks. and rip it up, change it try make things a little bit different. apparently businesses it's something they really welcome. because you can have a lot more freedom. but i'm sure from a workers point of view this will not be welcome news at all. especially when so many peoples jobs at the moment are at risk. coronavirus has really messed with it natural labor market anyway. i don't think this a particular good time to start discussing this idea. the reason it's come about is apparently, business groups have been consulted with. so the story is essentially leaked out that way. i think it's really bad timing. trade unions and labor business, shadow business secretary they've come out very strongly to say that this is a real worry. that those workers' rights are therefore a really strong reason. and they've been built up that protection over time. and now there is risk of it being eradicated. it's a really interesting story. not something that was on the agenda at the start of the week. i think it's a really great story from the ft. we will discuss it a _ great
