Im currently looking for work, didnt go the educational route. My interests are to get into the media industry. I havent quite found my niche yet. Im still on a journey to find what exactly im most passionate about. All the jobs i want specifically, i feel like i dont have any guidance to get there. If i could wave a magic wand, if there was a miracle, i would love to have a stable job that i love, just like everyone else. First steps into adult life are rarely trouble free. But in 2020 thatjourney seems more challenging than ever. Tim muffett, bbc news. Good luck to them and everyone else waiting for exam results. Time for a look at the weather. Heres chris fawkes. The atmosphere is in a very volatile mood at the moment. You have probably noticed how humid the airfields bid feels. That humidity is moisture, and that can fuel extreme thunderstorms. We have seen some of them in eastern scotland, leading to some flash flooding. Although many of us will have skies like these, with hot and humid weather, and dry weather, it is late in the day that we will start to see massive thunderstorms form, bringing the risk of flash flooding, this time targeting england and wales. A number of storms already in the south of france. A more subtle a boundary across belgium and england and wales, that is where the thunderstorms will want to form, late on. Late Afternoon, this evening and overnight. Across wales on the midlands, perhaps southern areas of england, we are going to get sundry downpours, bringing dramatic lightning, but also 30 or a0 millimetres of rain. Some of them could last a bit longer than that, leading to perhaps as much as 70 two 100 nanometres of rain, over a months 100 nanometres of rain, over a months worth in a few hours. That could lead to some communities seeing nasty flooding. 0therwise, could lead to some communities seeing nasty flooding. Otherwise, a familiarand seeing nasty flooding. Otherwise, a familiar and sweaty feel to the night overnight. For thursday, familiar and sweaty feel to the night overnight. Forthursday, more of those storms that will develop across england and wales. It will stay humid. Temperatures not far off the 30 degrees mark. Across scotland, Northern Ireland and northern england, a ridge of High Pressure built in. That will keep the storms away from these areas. For friday, it stays humid across england and wales. Quite a lot of cloud, still some heavy and sundry downpours across southern parts of england and wales in particular, parts of east anglia as well. Quite
a bit of cloud, some sunny spells developing as the day goes by. Temperatures not quite as hot as they have been, but still feeling very warm, even oppressive, given that it stays on the humid side. This weekend, low pressure stays in charge. Its often going to be quite cloudy. Rain and showers around, still feeling humid across england and wales. The best of any sunny spells across the north west. We could see flash flooding in england and wales across the evening. A reminder of our top story. around £100 million. A fantastic player, man united should be in the market for the best place in the world and this is the best teenager on the planet, bar none. You have to be in for that and i think if he comes, he will be adding value in terms of quality, no doubt. Uncapped seam bowler 0llie robinson has been called into the england cricket squad for the first time, for the second test against pakistan. Its kyren wilson against Anthony Mcgill of scotland and wilson took the opening frame. Its early days. He knocked out the defending champion judd trump yesterday, so hell be feeling confident. This evening, its ronnie 0sullivan against mark selby and 0sullivan says he isnt confident of making the final, despite the superb performance which took him into the last four. He dragged himself back from 7 2
down against mark williams, to win by 13 frames to ten. But the last time he made the final at the crucible, six years ago, he was beaten by selby and 0sullivan doesnt think hell get past him this time either. I dont expect to beat him because is the ultimate test and i cant see anyone left in the tournament to beat him over that distance, either, and thats just my personal opinion, do you know what i mean . Thats not about me taking the pressure off myself, ill be out there trying my hardest. I have nothing to prove and all that, butjust as an insider, a bit of inside information, for me, i cannot see how anyone can beat him, you know . Thats all for now, but theres more on the bbc sport website, including the news that the fa are in negotiations with the netherlands womens manager sarina wiegman, who is their preferred choice to succeed phil neville as england womens head coach. Her dutch side won the 2017 European Championship and reached last years world cup final. You can read more about her on the website. For now, joanna, it is back to you. Thank you. Lets return to that Major Incident near stonehaven now where a train has derailed. Some people reported to have been seriously injured. British transport police said its officers were called to stonehaven at about 20 to ten this morning. Its thought a landslip may have caused the derailment which happened after heavy rain in central and eastern scotland. Scotlands first minister Nicola Sturgeon has been speaking about the incident during first ministers questions. Less serious incident on the railway west of stonehaven. A serious incident. A scotrail passenger train derailed earlier this morning. The Emergency Services are currently on site and a Major Incident has been declared. I have just come off a call with network rail and the Emergency Services and although details are still emerging, i am afraid to say that there are early reports of serious injuries. The Scottish Government resilience room is operational and i will be convening a sgorr meeting with partner organisations as soon as possible this afternoon. Updates will of course be provided as they become available. However, my immediate thoughts, and im sure the thoughts of everyone across the chamber, are with all those involved in this incident. The Prime Minister borisjohnson has tweeted, i am saddened to learn of the very serious incident in aberdeenshire and my thoughts are with all of those affected. My thanks to the Emergency Services at the scene. 0ur transport correspondent tom burridge is here. What is the latest . Everything at the moment is pointing towards, the initial findings the moment is pointing towards, the initialfindings or the moment is pointing towards, the initial findings or initial comment on getting from network rail and other rail sources connected to this are other possible landslide stop heavy rain in the hours before this
incident, the 6 38am service that left aberdeen. 0n incident, the 6 38am service that left aberdeen. On its way to glasgow. We think there was a landslide in the area near stonehaven, the train itself was made up of two locomotives at the front and four passenger carriages in the middle and i am told that, at the moment, what has happened is that three of those for passenger carriages, plus the locomotive at the front derailed. They are off the track, down in a valley, and very remote area. It is complicating the rescue and recovery operation and that leaves one passenger carriage on the back locomotive on the tracks. It was a hst train, it is clearly a very, very serious incident. Do know how many people we re incident. Do know how many people were on board the train . People were not, that ive been speaking to about that particular information at the time. We do not know how many
passengers were on board. Clearly not many people are using the railways. I think use of the ra i lwa ys railways. I think use of the railways across the uk at the moment is sporadic, for business and work it is very, very low numbers. The leisure and travel, it is a bit higher but i think aberdeen is still in lockdown so therefore that really points towards, you would imagine, low numbers of passengers on board. At the moment, we do not have the information. I guess that is a crucial piece of information that we do not have at the moment. There are serious casualties and you can see the response of the Emergency Services at that scene. The train is ina services at that scene. The train is in a valley below were the Emergency Services are parked and they are working now to recover and also to investigate. I know inspectors from the rail accident investigation branch, that is a government, fairly independent body, independent from government but funded by government, they are on the way to the scene or
already there, to start an investigation as soon as possible in tandem, if you like, with the police and fire service and ambulance operation to rescue and treat those affected by this accident. They will investigate, they will look at the infrastructure, the track, they will also look at the train. Trains on this day and age have computers on board, so they have in effect, we talk about aircraft having black boxes, that kind of data and information does exist on the train. There will be information about how to pass the train was going and whether there was any other factor in causing this other than the weather conditions, which seem to be a majorfactor in causing weather conditions, which seem to be a major factor in causing the crash. Mike there will be information about how fast the train was going. We got used a pretty safe railways in this country. The older generations will know about the potters barn crash, they will know about the hatfield crush, there were
Major Incidents where scores of people were killed. That type of incident has more recently been consigned to history, thankfully, and really on the railways the last major derailment was back in 2007 in cumbria where one person was killed and several were injured. 0ur railway in the uk does have a Safety Record which it can be proud of, there are incidents, Safety Incidents across the railways at certain points over the last four us where rail workers have been killed, charging each incident is, but not ona charging each incident is, but not on a scale like this where the change derailed. Tragic no each incident is. They will be visiting the scene this afternoon, showing how major the incident is. The missing detail is what extent there are major injuries and may be fatalities as well. Thank you very much, tom burridge. Labour has described as a fiasco ministers last minute changes to the way a level and gcse results in england are to be decided. Schools will be able to appeal on behalf of students unhappy with their grades and want to use their mock exam results instead. Labour eader, sir keir starmer, said the governments response smacks of incompetence. This is a complete fiasco. It was obvious that this was going to be difficult, but its been weeks or months in the coming, to have an 11th hour decision thats caused widespread chaos amongst teachers ive been speaking to, families and young people, it smacks of incompetence. You just touched on it there, is it something that has come far too late in the day . It is shambolic. Its hours to go before the results. The problem is obvious and its been sitting there for weeks or months. We now face possibly a0 of young people having their grades change and downgraded possibly and this risks robbing them of theirfuture. Should the government now be under pressure to do whats happened in scotland . Do they need to back down on this . They need to go much further than they have gone. There has to be a basis for individual young people to be able to appeal against the grading and the idea of using mock results is deeply flawed. Talking to teachers today, its obvious that they expect across the piece that young people will do better in the real exam than they have done in the mock because the mock is intended to allow for interventions, etc. So by allowing the mock results, what youre really saying to young people is, you can have a result worse than the one you probably would have got. Its not going to work, its not going to wash and, as i said, this risks robbing young people of their future. Its a very serious position for the government to have found itself in. Clare marchant from the universities and Colleges Admissions Service in the uk offers this advice to students who find they havent got the grades they wanted. If they become, you know. Tomorrow they see their grades and they havent got their first choice of university, than those students should, first and foremost, look at clearing. We have a new personalised matching service, clearing plus, that gives them loads of opportunity to express that gives them loads of opportunity to express an interest in a personalised sort of course for them. If they want to appeal and go through the appeals process using this new route of mock exams, that is entirely down to them and their school but do that in parallel and that would be our advice tomorrow. A Major Incident is declared after a train derails in aberdeenshire. Nicola sturgeon says there are reports of serious injuries. Students in england may be able to use their mock exam scores if theyre unhappy with their a level grades, ahead of results being released tomorrow. The uk is officially suffering its biggest recession on record, the fall in output caused by the coronavirus pandemic is on course to be one of the worst
among major economies. Stephen lawrences father says he will not give up after Police Investigating the murder said that all lines of inquiry have been exhausted, and the investigation has now moved to an inactive phase. The 18 year old was killed in a racially motivated attack while waiting for a bus in eltham, in south east london, 27 years ago. The original investigation failed to convict those responsible and his Parents Campaign forjustice led to a public inquiry, which found the metropolitan police institutionally racist. Two men gary dobson and david norris were jailed for life for his murder, following a trial in 2012. Metropolitan Police CommissionerCressida Dick said she was sad that they were unable to secure any further convictions. Stephen lawrences father Neville Lawrence has been speaking to the bbcs callum may and criticised the metropolitan police for removing a detective from the investigation. Im disappointed, but not surprised because since the other officer who was in charge in the case has left, i wasnt told that he was going to be leaving the case after they got the result of the two people who are now in prison. So after all those other people that was there before, he was the only one that treated us with any kind of respect. And so i had confidence in him that whatever he was going to be doing, what he was doing, we would get some kind of result and we did, eventually we did get some results. So how do you wish the met had done things differently . I wish the met had done differently, like saying to us the day after this man had got the result that he was going to be told that he cant continue. We didnt know that until after he had left, that he wasnt going to be part of the investigation any more. And i was disappointed that we werent told before he was told to leave. And that was clive driscoll, is that right . Clive driscoll, yeah. And how, after all your fight and after all that has been said about the metropolitan police in stephens case, how does that final piece of administration, how does that final piece of personnel change leave you feeling about the metropolitan police . Disappointed. Disappointed, totally disappointed about the way the case started to go after the person who had the result was told to leave. And what do you think will happen now . Whats your prediction . Can you make a prediction . Well, i dont want to say what i predict, but the feeling that
i got from the start is that i dont like to be disappointed, when im doing something i dont give up so easily. And for 27 years, ive been trying to make sure that i dont give up. I dont care what happened in the first instance, all those other people who have taken charge of the case and didnt solve it. I had never believed that we wouldnt get some results. 0n the day when these boys are sentenced, i made a statement that this was only part of the justice that we were seeking, partjustice, we were seeking a full justice because there is more than one or two people was involved in this crime. And for me, that all the people managed to kill an innocent person
who hadnt done them anything should answer for what theyve done. So the police have said that this this hung on, the rest of this prosecution would have hung on two witnesses that they havent been able to trace coming forward. Do you agree with that or not . Well, ill have to listen to what they say. I cant say the opposite to what they said. They are the ones who are supposed to solve case, not me, im not a police officer. So whatsoever they tell me, i have to accept it. What i dont have to accept is that im going to give up. I have made it. In my mind, if im going to go to my grave, im still going to believe that theres going to be a way to find these other people who murdered my innocent son because he hadnt done them anything. He was just at the bus stop, waiting to go home, and these people made a decision to take his life and they should pay for what they have done. Neville lawrence, the father of
stephen lawrence, he was killed 27 yea rs stephen lawrence, he was killed 27 years ago. Although many lockdown restrictions have eased in the past few weeks, some close contact beauty treatments like facials, eyebrow threading and face waxing still arent allowed in england. But for some people going to the salon is about more than just looking good and for those with medical conditions being unable to have these treatments is affecting every part of their life, as Graham Satchell reports. This is natasha. Shes had alopecia, total hair loss, for 15 years. Natasha was due to get new permanent eyebrows at her local Beauty Clinic but covid 19 regulations means no work can be done on any area of the face. As you can probably see, ive got none, hardly any left of what i had, but it was just the strip. But now theyve developed into beautiful, natural looking eyebrows with hair strokes and things like that, which is what i was hoping to get done. Some people might think, oh, you know, itsjust eyebrows, just get on with it, itll be fine. But it would personally make me feel a lot more confident about myself, and being confident does help your mental health, and it personally makes me feel a lot better. Linda, natashas beautician, says it has been heartbreaking not to be able to treat clients with serious conditions. Cancer patients, you know, who are undergoing chemotherapy, they come, they know theyre going to lose their hair and their eyebrows and the one thing they want is eyebrows, you know . When they walk out of the door, we make them feel whole again. Nicola and toria both have polycystic ovary syndrome. One of the symptoms is excessive facial hair growth. I am very, very self conscious about the fact that you can see hair along the side of my face, under my chin, along the neck. It is very. It has impacted quite a lot. You almost dont feel like a woman inside your own body. Because if you leave this hair to grow, you will grow a beard. Both women would normally have laser or wax treatment at a Beauty Clinic every two or three weeks. Instead, theyve been trying to manage their condition at home. I have resulted in shaving my face, which has caused the hair to grow back worse. Its thicker, its darker. So its not pleasant. I do feel it has impacted my anxiety levels a lot, and my depression has reared its head again. I got into such a deep, dark place mentally that i couldnt cope. You walk down the street, someone looks at you and they go, shes got a beard, shes got a moustache. Thats very difficult. Hi, darling, lovely to see you take a seat on the bed. In manchester, penny davis reopened her clinic last month when some of the lockdown restrictions were relaxed. She has taken extra hygiene and safety precautions but says she doesnt understand why men can get their beards trimmed but facial treatments for women are still not allowed. When we laser somebodys face, it takes under two minutes and we stand to the side of them, as opposed to, for example, a beard trim, where the barber stands directly in front of their client and trims and it can take up to 20 minutes to do that. To me, it is sexist. And that is a word, graham, that ive not used for about 20 years. And i cant believe that in 2020 i am sat in my clinic talking about being discriminated in a way that is clearly sexist. The government in westminster will decide next week if clinics will be allowed
to start facial treatments. For thousands of women like natasha, nicola and toria, its not a frivolous luxury but a vital service. Graham satchell, bbc news. Now its time for a look at the weather with chris fawkes. Hello there. 0ver recent days, weve been talking about the risk of flash flooding, why . Well, because the atmospheres in a very volatile state at the moment. Theres loads of moisture and that moisture can power some enormous thunderstorms that can deliver so much rain that we see flash flooding. Weve had that in parts of scotland. Now, this afternoon, therell be a lot of hot and sunny weather. But its late in the day that we will see some further thunderstorms develop and these are quite likely to bring some further flash floods, this time in parts of england and wales that are most at risk. Now, the satellite picture shows a complex of storms across northwest france. Few storms at times working into southwestern england, but a more
subtle boundary here running across parts of belgium, england, wales that will be the areas theyll be most favorable to see some thunderstorms develop. But it is quite late in the afternoon. That means for most of the afternoon, its dry, its hot and its sunny. With those temperatures surging up into the mid 30s in the hottest areas, could stay a bit murky once again around some viscose Late Afternoon, evening and overnight. Thats when were going to start to get hit by some really big storms, particularly across wales and the midlands. But we could also see some of these big storms affecting southern england at times as well. And the problem with these storms, 30 or a0 millimeters of rain in the space of an hour, some of the storms could be quite lengthy. And that gives you the prospect of seeing maybe even up to 100 millimetres of rain. And that really could cause some pretty big problems for a few of our communities. Now, apart from those storms, further north, its a quiet night, quite a bit of low cloud. Its another warm night for sleeping. These are the lowest temperatures now. For thursday, a ridge of High Pressure builds across the north of the uk that
will mean that the showers stay well away from scotland, Northern Ireland, northern england. Its largely dry, quite cloudy. Few bright spells. Further south, its humid. And again, well see some storms developing as we head through the Late Afternoon and into the evening time as well. Another humid day. Temperatures not far off the 30 degree mark in the london area. Now for friday, weve got a lot more cloud in the forecast and again some heavy downpours, particularly across more southern regions of england and wales, perhaps the south midlands too. The further north you go the dryer the weather gets, but it will be quite cloudy, some limited bright or sunny spells developing through the afternoon and it stays humid across southern areas. Peak temperatures coming down. Well, thats just its turning cloudy. Now, this weekend, it stays pretty cloudy. Rain or showers around, particularly for england, wales, where it stays pretty humid. This is bbc news. The headlines. A Major Incident is declared after a train derails in aberdeenshire.
