jessica parker is here with me now. Legal concerns on what we know, but what do we know . Yesterday, police say they arrested a man on suspicion of rape. He was then released on bail until later this month. They say the allegations relate to four different incidences. Theyre alleged to have happened at addresses in london betweenjuly last year in january 2020. This emerged last night after the sunday times first reported the story and they said that the woman, a former parliamentary staffer, alleges the mp assaulted her, forced her to have sex and left are so traumatised that she had to go to hospital. As you we re she had to go to hospital. As you were saying, the conservative party has confirmed the whip is not being withdrawn. What that means is the mp can continue to sit with the conservative party in parliament. The labour front venture just

The communities secretary, robert jenrick, was asked about this earlier. Well, this is a very serious allegation and its right that its treated as such. I understand that the police are now investigating, so i dont think there is anything further that i could add, other than to say that the chief whip in the government are fully aware and im sure will take all the steps that are necessary. There have been reports that the chief whip, mark spencer, knew of allegations and had previously spoken to the woman. Socialist say he had not known the magnitude of the claims and a spokesman for mr spencer has said he took all allegations seriously and strongly encourage anyone who was approached person to contact the authorities. Its also understood the leader of
the house, jacob rees mogg, was told by an mp in recent weeks about the claims. Sources had said he had said the woman should contact the police. Thank you very much indeed, jessica parker. Reports say ministers are considering what measures might be necessary to contain a large surge in infections. The housing secretary, robertjenrick, also said they will press ahead with plans to reopen schools in england to all pupils in september despite concerns it could drive up cases of the virus. Jenny kumah reports. In parts of northern england, its the third day of new restrictions that were brought in to curb the recent rise in Coronavirus Infections. Theres been disappointment too for businesses in england that were planning to reopen this weekend, as the government decided against easing the restrictions for some part of the economy. According to newspaper reports today, new shielding measures could come in, with clinically Vulnerable People being allocated specific times to have access to services and shops. There could be a citywide lockdown on london if infection rates spike and the tightening of quarantine restrictions on those flying into the uk. But the governments not confirming that it would take such measures. In liverpool, Public Health officials are bringing in their own guidelines to deal with the spike in cases in the princes park ward of the city. The governments recent tightening of measures in england has lead to questions over whether schools will be able to reopen in september, with unions calling for greater clarity and more detail on how to prepare for pupils return. This comes after two scientists advising the government suggested
pubs in england may need to close to allow schools to reopen next month. Until a vaccine is found, its likely a return to normal life as we knew it before the pandemic is some time away. A cluster of 13 cases of coronavirus, linked to a pub in aberdeen, is being investigated by nhs officials. The pubs owners said some customers who visited last sunday have tested positive for the virus and are showing mild symptoms. Public Health Officials say there may be further cases linked to the cluster. Residents in popular resorts in the south west have said they are too scared to go food shopping because of visitors pouring down narrow streets and ignoring social distancing. Street marshals have been patrolling hotspots, giving social distancing tips. It comes as Prime Minister borisjohnson squeezed the brakes on easing lockdown restrictions
across the country after Coronavirus Infections increased in the last month. Lets speak to adam paynter, deputy leader of cornwall council. into cornwall, and we are quite happy to have them come, but would you want to make sure they are obeying the rules and making sure they remember that and certainly, as you say, some of the youngsters feel coronavirus has not really affected them and perhaps they are not listening as well as they should do. Difficult line to tread, though, is it not . As you say, cornwall, £2. 5 billion worth of the tourism economy for you usually. Its been a bad summer for you usually. Its been a bad summer because of the outbreak and you dont want to put people off. Would you accept there have been some cases locals in cornwall who have been sending out a message, actually, that we dont really want people to come here, and thats presuming the opposite of what you want . It is difficult, and originally we were saying for people to stay away when it was supposed to be stay at home. Obviously, now people are allowed to move around, but is difficult to get that message right. People are keen to get away
and, clearly, with the lockdowns and shut down in spain and other areas, people are quite nervous about going abroad, so potentially more will be coming to the southwest and other popular resorts in the uk number so we do welcome them here in the district to see people down here and obviously the welcome them, but we wa nt to obviously the welcome them, but we want to see people behave themselves. We would like to keep our levels of coronavirus down as much as possible. Presumably, that is the message you would like to send to the parents of these kids, these youngsters perhaps who are coming down and gathering in large groups, maybe when theyre 16, i7, 18 years groups, maybe when theyre 16, 17, 18 years old . So the parents have a responsibility, do they come to pass this mentioned on . We want people to be prepared, make sure the book ahead. Make sure you can get in and do those things, but certainly make sure youve got your accommodation we have seen in spain, its the youngsters who have been spreading
the virus more because they have not been. They are going out to the pubs and the bars, they have not focused on the social distancing, so it is really in pawn they follow that advice and we are asking people to make sure they are sending younger siblings down into cornwall and the southwest, make sure they still abide by the guidelines and then they can have a good time, enjoy themselves, but stay safe and keep the locals safe. Many states are imposing individual lockdowns for 15 day periods to help control the spread. Well, the bollywood star amitabh batchan has been discharged from hospital. He tested positive a few days ago for covid 19. Amitabh batchan, who is 77, is one of indias most renowned actors. Fans all over the country said they were uniting to pray for his recovery. His daughter in law the actress Aishwarya Rai batchan and her eight year old daughter, aaradhya, left hospital earlier this week after recovering from the virus. However, the australian state of victoria has declared a state of disaster
and is introducing the countrys toughest lockdown measures yet in the state capital melbourne. Residents of the city have been placed under a night time curfew. A further 671 cases and seven deaths were confirmed in the past day. From sydney, phil mercer reports. A Public Health bushfire is how the authorities in victoria are describing the covid 19 emergency. You cant smell the smoke and you cant see the flames, but this, they say, is a wicked enemy. A state of disaster has been declared and the city of melbourne is under tough new restrictions, including a night time curfew that will last for six weeks. I am declaring a state of disaster across victoria. This will be in addition to the state of emergency that has operated throughout. This means that police and others have additional powers, we can suspend various acts of the parliament, we can make sure that we get the job done. After early success in suppressing
the coronavirus, australia has had fewer confirmed infections and deaths than many other countries. But the worsening situation in victoria has the entire country on edge. On sunday, 671 new infections were reported, seven people died. In the australian context, these numbers are significant and disturbing. The victorian State Government says previous Disease Control measures were working too slowly. Residents will have to stay within five kilometres of their homes and only one person per household is allowed to go shopping for food each day. Schools and childcare centres will close. Australias strictest lockdown follows the deadliest week of the pandemic here so far. Health experts believe a surge in covid 19 cases was exacerbated by a relaxation of earlier restrictions, complacency on social
