i think it will come and go. you take a look at some of these locations which were heavily infected to a point where deborah andi infected to a point where deborah and i were talking when you look at what happened in new york and new jersey and other places, and now you are looking and it's gone. i hope it stays gone, i think it will but we had to be and we have to be vigilant and careful. we also have to set an example. i think setting the example is very important. it's hard for us to say we will have a lot of people packed in a room and then other people shouldn't do it. don't forget we are talking about schools and we wa nt we are talking about schools and we want them to be vigilant and we are saying open and then we are seeing here you have a big room but i also if you notice i said where bars are crowded and other things her credit, there is nothing more crowded than a convention. and even though you try to keep people away from each other, it is not that kind of a thing. they probably can't do that, itjust doesn't work for them. i think we are setting an example by doing it for some if i could come back to school openings to talk about the money congress. that they're looking to help schools that want to get open. if schools want to reopen but is concerned about testing, would you consider directing some of that money for testing to a school district or even individual schools if that's what it took to open the schools? i think so. a lot of people feel different about testing. we talk about it a lot. when we have 50 million tests plus and we broke the 50 million test mark, second in the world is india which has 1.4 billion people and they had 12 million tests. and other countries that are very big had 2 million tests and some countries essentially only test if you're sick or walking to a hospital or doctor's office or you are literally hospital or doctor's office or you a re literally really hospital or doctor's office or you are literally really sick. they essentially don't do tests unless you are sick and i understand that. if they feel that is what they want, that would be fine. you would encourage congress? i would if they want. again we have done 15 million tests —— 50 million tests. you look at our mortality rate, are at death rate and different statistics, we are doing very well. but one death is too many. this should never have happened, that should never have been about to happen from china. mitch mcconnell is office put out a statement about the relief package saying "it is tailored precisely for this phase of the crisis" yet it does not include your payroll tax cut. i would like to see it, it is great for the workers, the democrats would never go for it, they are not big into the workers i guess. based on that i told them west night the republicans who have been working very ha rd republicans who have been working very hard on this and they want what is right for the country, and hopefully the democrats ultimately well but i said i think a payroll task —— tax will be good. we need their votes, we have a majority but it is not enough so i guess that is why we have an election coming up so you still need democrat votes and we will not get democrat votes on that. i would like to see it, it would be very good for the workers but if we are not going to get their votes, i guess we have to go onto the next thing. a payroll tax cut would be very good and maybe something happens. you talk about setting an example on jacksonville happens. you talk about setting an example onjacksonville but ijust wondered some people are going to ta ke wondered some people are going to take away from this. the lesson you we re take away from this. the lesson you were pushing too far too fast. you saw the numbers were going up in jacksonville and you were going to have a prime there, this comes for a time you're pushing for schools to reopen and having the opening of the major league baseball season, isn't the example of jacksonville major league baseball season, isn't the example ofjacksonville that we are pushing too fast? i don't know if they are putting it in this bill, they want a new fbi building because it was old and was not built toa high because it was old and was not built to a high standard and has a lot of danger involved and panels falling off the outside and pieces of concrete falling off the building. and they want to build it at the site that they have it. they have options very far away from washington and i said to them frankly you have to be near the justice department, there is nothing better than the site they have. they we re better than the site they have. they were looking at sites in maryland and virginia but they would have been too far away. i have been encouraging them to build it and you have a choice you can renovate the existing one but it is not a good building or you can take it down and building or you can take it down and build a great building for the fbi for 100 years and have it be incredible even with tracks on topic they are talking about where you have because fbi people like to work out a lot and you could have literally quarter mile tracks on top, a very big, wide site. i think the best idea would be to build the new building and then you have it for a long time. renovation can never be as good as a new building in that case. i know whether they are talking about it, whether they put it in this bill or someplace else but the fbi needs a new building. we will get it done. thank you all very much. thank you. there you all very much. thank you. there you have it president trump leaving the white house briefing room as he finishes another of his coronavirus briefings. he resumed those after a pause for a couple of months, he started those again earlier this week. there were some things i came out of today present briefing, he said that the republican national convention which is of course a huge set piece event in a presidential election year where all republicans together and the candidate makes a speech in front of party members, thatis speech in front of party members, that is now going to be cancelled, it was good to be in florida a state which has seen rising cases. the other thing that he talked about as well was his desire for schools to reopen safely. to go through all of that joining reopen safely. to go through all of thatjoining us now is our correspondent david willis who is in los angeles for us. wants to unpick in that briefing. let's start with the first major news which is that the first major news which is that the republican national convention well like so many things in this coronavirus pandemic effectively be a virtual one. extraordinary, isn't it? and the president having focus for the best part about month now maybe longer than that on reopening the american economy has had to confront the effect that there coronavirus is having on this country because of the growing figures here and a number of cases which of course today topped more than 4 million. now it is come even closer to home because one of the epicenters of the coronavirus is florida and there had been plans to move their republican national convention to jacksonville after the north carolina, charlotte, north carolina mayor roy cooper objected to certain plans for people to gather in large groups there. and now that is being postponed as the president announced. it will be some sort of virtual acceptance of his pa rty‘s sort of virtual acceptance of his party's nomination and that is really thwarting all the intentions both president trump and his supporters to have some sort of big gathering where he could address a full arena and accept his party's nomination for president. an indication ofjust how close to home all of this is striking. you mentioned as well his emphasis once again on schools, this is the third briefing this week the president has held, i might add he held it on his own without his medical experts such as doctor anthony fauci or doctor deborah birx in, and he placed a lot of schools on schools reopening saying there would be a lot of mental and physical repercussions on children if schools are not reopen very soon. children if schools are not reopen very soon. david willis, thank you very soon. david willis, thank you very much. we will bring you the rest of the days news throughout. this this is bbc news with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world.
