What we have got is a range of calibrated responses the measures you have mentioned are on that list. The issue will be when and how and with what logic to deploy them. There is already some anecdotal evidence that it is taking people a long time to get through to 111 on the nhs. There is some evidence that people are not being able to get tested as quickly as they would like to. Will you commit today to give the nhs exactly what it asks for, even if that runs into significant extra amounts of money . Of course we will do everything we can to address the problem and to stop the spread of the disease. The governments Emergency Committee met today to sign off bigger plans they will reveal tomorrow. The government is going to have to come up with a very big package that makes sure that where we do require people to be isolated from the rest of the community, they do get the support that is necessary because there is no evidence yet that the government has even started thinking about that. For the vast majority of people, they will make a full recovery and it is a relatively mild illness. Children and otherwise healthy adults seem to be at much lower risk. The uk government will publish details of its action plan tomorrow, to try to tackle the spread of the infection. 0ur Health Editor hugh pym has been taking a look at the nhs response to coronavirus. Nhs iii, a place to call for those with symptoms recently back from the worst affected countries with the virus. Advice is given on whether a test is needed. Call volumes were up more than 50 at times last week and there were some reports by users of delays, but the number of calls has since fallen back to more normal levels. There have been some delays, but our staff are working flat out round the clock right across the country, doing a fantasticjob. A new online nhs 111 service for those wanting guidance on possible exposure to coronavirus was launched last week. Health chiefs are urging people to go online if possible, rather than calling 111. Tilt your head back for me. More than 13,000 coronavirus tests have now been carried out, some at this drive through centre in west london. A few people who have self isolated, waiting for a test, have reported delays. Dave and his wife called 111 last wednesday, were tested on friday and are still waiting for the results. It is incredibly frustrating, and i know a lot of people are being tested at the moment. I know the nhs is stretched, but it is unbelievably frustrating, believe me. The nhs advice to anyone regardless of symptoms is, wash your hands frequently to reduce the infection risk. So if there is a big jump in the number of cases, how will an already overstretched nhs cope . How will hospitals and their staff manage to handle the extra patients on top of their already heavy workload . The nhs may well free up beds by stopping non urgent surgery, but some are worried about workforce numbers. We need to bring extra staff on board, bearing in mind mind that some staff themselves may be unwell. We also need to think about how we undertake prioritisations. The British Medical Association said that a major outbreak would dramatically intensify pressures already facing the health service. Hugh pym, bbc news. Our Global Health correspondent Tulip Mazumdar is at an nhs 111 call centre in the West Midlands and gave a sense of the volume of calls they are receiving. The night shift has just actually started here. Some of the night shift Staff Members havejust come in and they are getting settled down. Staff members, nurses, doctors, call handlers, are working 24 7 to advise people who think they may have been exposed to this coronavirus. With the volume of calls they are receiving on normal weekday they deal with around 3000 calls for a wide variety of health issues. It is now looking at more than about 4000 cases every weekday. So quiteajump. That is why bosses here looking at recruiting 115 more call handlers here for this call centre in the coming days and weeks as the uk braces itself for more cases. There hasnt yet been a case identified in the West Midlands here since this outbreak started. The economic cost, of the spread of coronavirus, is also being felt. Global growth forecasts have been cut, and the Financial Markets have fallen further. And there could be major implications for uk businesses and their employees, as our Business Editor simonjack explains. How is working at home . Businesses are having to face up to the challenges of working around coronavirus. Do you really need to come in . At this software company, there are some new office rules. Were doing a number of things in the office. We are asking our staff to take their laptops home at the end of every day in case they are unable to come to work the next morning. We are operating very strict policy on sickness if you dont feel good, please dont come in. We are asking all of our team to set up meetings via video conferencing, which obviously reduces mobility, and general cleanliness in the office, including hand wipes and hand sanitiser. Many employers are prepared to pay workers in full for short periods of illness, but they dont have to. So what are your rights . Employees are entitled by law to sick pay of £94. 25 a week, but it only kicks in after three days illness. It is paid for up to 28 weeks, plenty to cover a 14 day isolation period, but if you stay home and dont get sick, employers are not obliged to pay you for taking that precaution. Policies will no doubt vary from employer to employer. Most will hopefully take a sensible approach. For office workers, it is arguably easier you can work from home, be more flexible, but for some people, that is just not an option. If you dont show up, you dont get paid. Taxi driver mohammed says he is taking as many precautions as he can. But not working is not one of them. I do sort of try not to pick up from airports, because people travel anywhere and you dont know how their hygiene is going to be and all that. If you getjobs, you just do it, really, and i cant see myself not working, i need to work. I need to pay bills. Unless my wheels are turning, im not earning. The public sector, including the nhs, employs private firms to perform critical functions. Unions are worried low paid workers will be financially forced into work. Our members are the lowest paid in the nhs its your cleaners, your caterers, your security guards and porters. They cant do theirjob from home and they are being put in an impossible situation where they have to choose between paying the rent and coming into work ill. We need leadership from the government and we need them to say everybody working in the nhs will be paid full sick pay from day one. For now, for most, it is business as usual, but the impact of the virus is beginning to change how we live and work. Simon jack, bbc news. Lets look at some of the other major developments today. The authorities in italy say 52 people have now died, after being infected by the virus. The number of overall cases there has now passed 2000. Meanwhile, British Airways and ryanair have cancelled hundreds of flights because of the coronavirus outbreak. Both airlines said there had been a significant fall in demand. The outbreak of coronavirus is causing worry around the world, and nowhere is that more noticeable than iran. Hospitals are full and people are struggling to get treatment. The official death toll stands at 66, but many iranians are asking whether they can trust the governments figures. Ros atkins and the outside source team have more. Lets try and clear up what exactly is happening with the coronavirus in iran. The number of cases has doubled to over 1500. And this is the tehran times confirming that one of them is an advisor to the irans supreme leader, ayatollah ali khamenei. Now despite the sharp increase in the statistics, theres evidence to suggest the number of cases and deaths is higher still. There are 80 Million People in the country, 31 provinces, 27 of which are gripped by the virus, so people are asking how are they going to knock on every single door, even in the areas that are harder to reach, and do they have enough equipment . Now another thing that theyre worried about is that the plan could actually help spread the virus, so on social media theyre asking each other not to open the door for these teams. Theyre saying that this plan is not gonna work. The centre of the outbreak in iran is the holy city of qom. Today bbc persian published this video. The man filming says these are burials at a cemetry in qom, and that theyve already buried 80 people in an area for coronavirus victims, which is far in excess of officialfigures. Then theres another video, this time from tehran, and again highlighted by bbc persian. This man is warning passers by not to come near him because he is infected. We see him coughing severely. Hes then picked up by men in protective suits and put in an ambulance. Heres bbc persias rana rahimpour. We are not convinced. We think this is an underestimation of whats going on its not us. There are so many people inside. An mp north of iran today said these numbers sound more like a joke. He said in his city, which is one of critical cities at the moment, all the hospitals are full, they can no longer cope. And he blamed the authorities for sending help ten days after it was announced, the outbreak was announced. So they said they were too slow to react and by now, the entire city is in trouble. So many people believe its downplayed or the authorities dont have the capacity to test all those people who are affected, and who are possibly dead. They have been buried and the cause of death has been announced as test infection or flu without being tested. As chest infection or flu without being tested. The bbc has seen details of another complaint of bullying, against the home secretary priti patel, this time dating back at least four years. The documents show that a settlement of £25,000 was paid to a former staff member four years ago, after ms patel was accused during her time as employment minister. Her spokesperson denied she knew anything about the complaint, as our correspondent Rianna Croxford reports. Are you a workplace bully, home secretary . She is one of the governments most senior ministers. Now more allegations have emerged about priti patels treatment of staff. On saturday, the most senior Civil Servant in the home office resigned and announced he was suing the government for constructive dismissal. He said he was aware of a number of complaints against the home secretary. I have received allegations that her conduct has included shouting and swearing, belittling people, making unreasonable and repeated demands behaviour that created fear and needed some bravery to call out. This afternoon, the minister for the Cabinet Office, michael gove, announced an investigation into claims she had broken the ministerial code. Mr speaker, this government always takes any complaints relating to the ministerial code seriously and in line with the process set out in the ministerial code, the Prime Minister has asked the Cabinet Office establish the facts. But we can now reveal details of a further claim, this time from priti patels period as employment minister in the department for work and pensions. 0ur documents allege that a junior staff member had already felt bullied in the department and taken an overdose. A year later, when ms patel was a minister, the staff member had told her line manager about a medical problem she was struggling with. Her grievance letter claims the next day priti patel shouted at her to get lost and get out of herface. She was then dismissed. Shortly after, the staff member took an overdose of Prescription Medication in the office. The letter said she was taken home where she took another overdose in what is described as an attempt to kill herself, and was rushed to hospital. The documents also reveal that the junior staff member later received a settlement of £25,000 after bringing a claim of bullying and discrimination against the department. Ms patel is named in the document. On sunday, the Prime Minister defended ms patel, calling her a brilliant home secretary and praised the civil service. There have been riots at greeces border with turkey after thousands of migrants were mobilised to march right up to the fence. And some have got through. It means that some of them are hiding so we have just seen what looks like a couple of migrants over here. They run off and we eventually find them hiding in some bushes. Police . As you can imagine, the water here isnt very clean, but whats making it worse is that kerosene has got into it they use it here as heating oil and its given the water a film, it stinks and its getting into all these peoples houses. The bbc has uncovered evidence that police in the indian capital delhi, acted alongside hindu rioters, during a wave of attacks on muslims last week. The death toll in the religious violence has now risen to 46 the deadliest in more than three decades. Indias hindu nationalist government is coming under increasing pressure as allegations of Police Complicity in the clashes continue to emerge. The bbcs Yogita Limaye has sent this report and you may find some of the images distressing. They are meant to protect all of indias people but here the police are seen with hindus, throwing stones towards muslims. Videos like these have been emerging since the violence last week. We went to the street where the footage was filmed a predominantly hindu one. This man described how the police helped them. We didnt have enough stones here so the Police Brought us some and told us to throw them. Across the road, we find the burnt out house of a muslim man. I saw the police come in with the rioters, who set the shops on fire in front of them, he told me. We have been able to investigate how events unfolded at this one location, but on several instances now we have been told by people that the police were either complicit with or turned a blind eye to hindu mobs and used Excessive Force against muslims. This muslim man was beaten to death by the police. He was 23. In another video, he is seen lying unconscious with four other men. Some of them are asked to sing Indias National anthem to prove their patriotism. We are indians like you are, the men plead. At the mans home, preparations for his funeral were being made when we went. He couldnt stand up or sit down. My brother was in so much pain. His whole body had turned black and blue. He was beaten in such places that i cant even express it, his brother told me. Rafik was one of those beaten with him. There is barely any part of his body that has not been wounded. Im too scared to go and get myself treated. The situation outside is so bad. The government has ruined india, he says. The delhi police did not respond to the allegations. The violence has torn apart a neighbourhood in delhi but its ripples have been felt around the country. Among muslims, there is a deep sense of insecurity in an india under hindu nationalist rule. Its hardly surprising theres been so much flooding in so many flood warnings just recently. February was a very unusual month. In the uk, the wettest february on record, and for Northern Ireland, the wettest month ever recorded. All that rain brought about as the strong jet stream drove the storms our way. Over the next few days, the jet stream is not as strong, it is undulating a bit more. We are likely to stay on the colder side of the jet, hence that chill you may have noticed already at the start of the week. We have more sunshine and showers to come on tuesday. This time, the showers moving in the eastern parts, still i 2 heavy ones. Further west later on, we see fewer showers and probably more in the way of sunshine. Still, those temperatures around 8 9 degrees, maybe ten celsius across parts of southern england and wales. Still a few showers continuing into tuesday evening. Again, a bit wintry over the hills of scotland. But for many, weve got clear skies, pointing to a cold night ahead. Now a complication arises around the middle part of the week, because we have this area of low pressure coming in from the atlantic. And that will bring some wetter weather, pushing its way eastwards across southern england, wales, and perhaps the midlands too. It may well bring a bit of snow over the hills. Further north, brighter skies, the best of the sunshine in scotland where we will see most of the showers in the northwest of the country. Those temperatures sitting at 7 9 degrees. Now this area of low pressure that is bringing this rain could be further north, taking the wetter weather further to the north of england, away again with some snow over the hills. And then, how quickly it clears away is a little uncertain. This rain could linger for a bit longer across the southeast of england. Elsewhere, we do see skies brightening and spells of sunshine, winter showers continuing across mainly Northern Ireland and west scotland. Those temperatures not changing very much at all over the next few days. By the end of the week, whilst we say goodbye to one area of low pressure, theres another one arriving to the north of scotland. And that will bring this weather front here and push it eastwards. Now this will be a narrow band of rain, may well be some snow over the Northern Hills for a time. That pushes through, no great amounts of rain, then back into sunshine and showers the bulk of the wintery showers in western scotland with temperatures still at 7 9 degrees. Now the weather starts to change over the weekend. If we look out to the atlantic, this is a deeper area of low pressure that will be heading our way. And it strengthens the winds, and that weather front is a warm front that will introduce more clout, low cloud, and cloud, low cloud, and
