The American Army has managed to clear some of the landslide, allowing the vital supplies to reach those communities worst affected. Also from the International Community the Moroccan Army has cleared some of the landslide. The uk is also sending a team, a uk charity due to arrive here on monday. They will all be heading to the Atlas Mountains to offer help to those whose villages have been flattened by the quake. In the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, the small town of asni, a Community Crushed and crumbling. Rescue teams are struggling to access these remote villages close to the epicentre, where hundreds of people are still feared to be trapped under the ruins of their fragile clay homes. Translation there are a lot of blocked roads. A lot of people cant find their parents and a lot of people are still under the rubble. Everything went down on them the mountains, their homes. In the historic heart of marrakesh, shards of Cultural Heritage lie strewn beneath the crumbled minaret of the Djemaa El Fna mosque. Electric cables and shutters hang precariously over the famous market souks. Adam smith, a british tourist from sheffield, recalls the moment the tremors struck. Gathered our belongings as fast as we could. We heard the entire room shaking, the glass was shaking in the doors. We grabbed our passports and ran out. All the guests were doing a similarthing. There was plaster coming down from the ceiling. 0nce everyone congregated in the front of the hotel, we just had to wait it out for the remainder of the night. Thousands of people have set up makeshift camps in the open air, too afraid of aftershocks to go home. For so many people, there is simply no home left to return to. But its beyond the walls of this medina where the earthquakes most deadly damage has been inflicted. The red cross has warned that the next 2a hours are critical for reaching any survivors in time. We are inside the heart of the medina. This is a unesco World Heritage site and the uns Cultural Agency has said it will work with morocco to come up with a strategy to repair this important Cultural Heritage. So many tourists from around the world come to see this. Marrakesh is the gateway to morocco, and they are hoping to restore these buildings. The damage is all around us. This is the main square, but if you look around, Business Owners are saying to us, show the other side of this stuff there is destruction, but at the same time, they are trying to restore life. People are working behind the stores. Tourists are drinking mint tea on the terraces, and they want to make sure people dont feel as though there is no hope, because there are also tales of resilience from inside those mountain areas. Here in marrakesh, we are seeing queues outside the Blood Donation centres as well as more than 2000 people confirmed dead. Thousands have been injured, so they are asking for more donations to come forward. The Moroccan National Football Team lined up to donate their blood, so they are hoping that people including tourists will come forward to donate. We have been speaking to tourists here today who remember the moment the quake struck. They are now trying to find out how they can help. They are taking bottles of water, food supplies. We are expecting many more people to camp outside the net because they are too afraid to return to their quake damaged homes. There is still fear of another possible earthquake, or at least more aftershocks that could affect this already devastated community. Affect this already devastated community community. Anna holligan in marrakesh. Community. Anna holligan in marrakesh, thank community. Anna holligan in marrakesh, thank you. Community. Anna holligan in marrakesh, thank you. Lets| community. We have been watching diggers searching through the rubble. It has just come 4. 05 in the afternoon, the same as uk time. This is one of the worst affected towns, but there are many others which rescuers have not yet been able to reach because the roads are still cut off. The official death toll is just over 2000, but we are expecting that to rise, of course, as these Search And Rescue efforts continue. Hanoi and washington are expected to sign a new Partnership Agreement and upgrade their relationship. It comes less than 50 years after the vietnam war, which left millions of vietnamese and 58,000 thousand us servicepeople dead. Joe biden spoke earlier today at a news conference, where he was asked whether his visit was part of a diplomatic plan to counter china. Look, i think china has a difficult economic problem right now for a whole range of reasons that relate to International Growth and the lack thereof, and the policies that china has followed. So i dont think its going to cause china to invade taiwan, as a matter of fact, the opposite, it probably doesnt have the same capacity that it had before. But as i said, were not looking to hurt china, sincerely. Were all better off if china does well, if china does well by the international rules, grows the economy. But they have had some real difficulty in terms of their economy of late, particularly in real estate, and i think the actions theyre going to have to take are ones they are in the process of deciding right now. Im not going to predict what will come out, but were not looking to decouple from china. Im not going to sell china material that would enhance their capacity to make more Nuclear Weapons or engage in defence activities that are contrary to what most people think is a positive development in the region. Were not trying to hurt china. President biden, speaking in hanoi earlier. The uk Prime Minister rishi sunak has warned the chinese premier of his significant concerns about beijings interference in democracy. It follows the arrest of a parliamentary researcher on suspicion of spying. Mr sunak met li qiang at the g20 summit in delhi hours after news of two arrests in the uk under the Official Secrets Act emerged. Well, i obviously cant comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, but with regard to my meeting with premier li, what i said very specifically is that i raised a range of different concerns that we have and areas of disagreement and, in particular, my very strong concerns about any interference in our parliamentary democracy, which is obviously unacceptable. Rishi sunak, speaking after the meeting he had with li qiang at the sidelines of the g20. India has formally handed over the g20 presidency to brazil at the Closing Ceremony of the groups annual summit. Prime minister Narendra Modi completed the transition by passing the ceremonial gavel of the presidency to the brazils Luiz Inacio Lula da silva. Earlier, the leaders gathered for a ceremony at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, indias independence leader. On saturday, the group issued a joint declaration on The War In Ukraine but the statement made no mention of russian aggression. My colleague Christian Fraser is in delhi at the summit and sent us this update a short while ago. Yes, the Leadersjetting Out Of New Delhi this hour, at the end of two days of the g20 summit. And i would think immense satisfaction on the part of the indians that they got the communique across the line, because when the leaders arrived here 48 hours ago, there was a giant gap in that text specifically in relation to ukraine. There were 200 sherpa meetings to find the right language that would find consensus in the room. But today, as the gavel was passed to brazil, that communique adopted in full. Earlier in the day, though, a lot of it was about the ceremony. The leaders were out and about in new delhi. First, lets focus on rishi sunak, who went to a hindu temple proud hindu himself, of course with his wife, akshata murty. This was the akshardham temple, in new delhi. He prayed there, they were shown around the temple. And then he made his way to raj ghat, which is the memorial for Mahatma Gandhi who, of course, was assassinated in 1948, just after india had secured its independence from the british empire. This is the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated all those years ago. And all 20 leaders joining in the rain, monsoon weather here in india today, in the rain to present their memorial, their wreaths to Mahatma Gandhi. Interesting because, of course, he was a man who was very much focused on self reliance. But for him personally, mr modi, in the run up to an election next year and a third term, i would think hell be very pleased with what hes got out of the weekend. But lets talk specifically about the ukraine passage, because thats where most of the focus has been. And particularly how its been watered down, when you compare it to the document they agreed in bali a year ago. So gone is deplores in the strongest terms the aggression by the Russian Federation against ukraine. And inserted in its place, we reiterated our national positions, all states must refrain from the threat of the use of force to seek territorial acquisition. Sergei lavrov has been giving a press conferencejust an hour ago at a hotel here in new delhi, clearly well satisfied with the language that they secured. But he spoke specifically about the black sea initiative, the supply of grain which theyve cut off, theyve walked away from that deal and theyve renewed their bombardment of the ukrainian ports, which was widely condemned here. Mr lavrov said it is possible to revive the black sea initiative, as long as the west removes obstacles to the export of russian grain and fertiliser. Heres the response from the british Prime Minister, rishi sunak. The 620 is obviously a large collection of countries that dont all necessarily share the same values and the same perspective, but it is important that the 620 has come together and issued very strong condemnation for the impact of The War In Ukraine on food prices and energy security. Thats something that i was keen to highlight. Im glad that that is there in the statement, in black and white. And theres very strong language, highlighting the suffering that the war is doing and the impact its having on food prices, and the need for russia to rejoin the black Sea Grain Initiative and to halt attacks on civilian infrastructure in ukraine. Thats something that i wanted to make sure we did here, thats something that has happened, and thats something that everyone has sat up and taken notice of. The Prime Minister rishi sunak there, speaking at the g20 in delhi. Afghanistans taliban rulers have criticised the closure of their main border point with pakistan this week after clashes between the two sides security forces. They said the halt in trade would see heavy losses for businesses on both sides. The Busy Torkham Crossing was shut on wednesday after troops started firing at each other. Each side blames the other for the flare up. The bbc s zari kargar has been following the developments. The talibans Foreign Ministry has issued a statement condemning pakistans action of closing the Torkham Border since wednesday. The taliban, in their statement, say the closure of the border by pakistani officials is not a sign of a Good Relationship between the two neighbours and its going to have a huge impact on trade and bilateral relationships. The Torkham Border is a key Transit Point for people and goods between the two countries. It has been closed for five days now after clashes between the Pakistani Security forces and the Taliban Forces in the area. Pakistani officials claim the taliban are building a new Security Post in the area, which is illegal. But the taliban Statement Today says they were not building a new Security Post. In fact, they were repairing a Security Post that was built there several years ago. Hundreds of people, mainly from the afghanistan side, have been waiting for days and nights to enter pakistan because many patients from Afghanistan Go For Treatment to the country, especially cancer patients, because there are limited resources in afghanistan. They get treatment in peshawar, on the pakistani side. Afghan tradesmen have been complaining about how their goods, especially fruit like grapes and tomatoes, have been rotting because they have been waiting in the border area. They have also started selling them at very low prices, which is hugely economically damaging for them. Afghanistan also exports coal to pakistan, which is very much needed on the pakistani side because of the lack of electricity. From the pakistani side, goods like electronic stuff, medicine and also fruit like bananas and nectarines are exported. Its not the first time the Torkham Border has been shut by the pakistani officials. It has happened in the past few years when there has been an influx of refugees from Afghanistan Due to the war, pakistan has decided to shut the border and then reopen. So this has been going on for years between the two countries. Yesterday, taliban officials and pakistani officials met to talk about reopening of the border. But it looks like none of the sides have reached an agreement to reopen the border and it still remains shut. Now its time for a look at todays sport. Hello from the bbc sport centre. We start with some Breaking News from the last hour germany have sacked hansi flick as manager of the Mens National team. Manchester united Winger Antony has been allowed time off by his club to answer allegations made against him of domestic abuse. The boks have won the last seven meetings, but scotand have one of the most dangerous attacks in the world at the moment, as they showed with convincing wins over england and wales in the six nations earlier this year. Its the biggest opportunity youll get, a World Cup Game Playing The World Champions. We believe weve been building to our best performance, and i know thats a continualjourney. We will see it again as we go into the tonga game. This is where it all counts for our players to deliver what theyve been delivering in training and in other games weve played this year. We have every faith and belief that theyll be able to do that. Its obviously going to be a massive challenge, something were really excited for. 0n the weather, its something that we as a team have been embracing. We prefer the heat to the rain, so i think the guys have been happy with the heat and weve adapted well. Yes, it is hot in marseille today. Two key one day internationals have been affected by the weather in different parts of the world. The asia cup match between pakistan and india has been abandoned in colombo, while england against new zealand has been reduced to 34 overs a side after a delayed start in southampton. Lets go to some live pictures now from the chilean capital santiago, where we can see people gathering on the streets. We have seen some minor scuffles between these people and security forces. Tomorrow, the 11th of september, is the 50th Anniversary of the Military Crew in chile, which led to the dictatorship of augusto pinochet. He overthrew Salvador Allende and had 17 rules of military rule, which resulted in the deaths of 3000 people who were killed or forcibly disappeared. 38,000 people were tortured during the pinochet regime. We have in the past seen demonstrations on the anniversary of the military coup, so as we saw in those images, people are starting to gather on the streets ahead of tomorrows anniversary. More on that story when we have it. Well, lets get the latest on that war in ukraine, where there are little more than 30 days of fighting left before the weather will hinder kyiv s counter offensive. Thats according to americas top ranking us Military Officer. Speaking to the bbc, general mark milley said colder conditions would make it much harder for ukraine to manoeuvre. It comes as kyiv was attacked by russian drones early on sunday, with debris falling in several districts. But ukrainian Officials Say no casualties have been reported. At least 10 explosions were heard in the capital, as Air Raid Sirens sounded. A short while ago we spoke to paul adams, who is in kyiv for us. Hes been speaking to ukrainian officials about the g20 summit declaration. It has been praised by russia and the us. Heres what he had to say. The response from the spokesman at the Foreign Ministry yesterday was that there was nothing for the g20 to be proud about. In fact, he reprinted the words of the g20 on The War In Ukraine as if he was a teacher correcting a pupils homework, scoring out the references to The War In Ukraine and replacing them with the phrase The War Against Ukraine and including the word aggression because last year, last november when the g20 addressed this subject, they included a reference to russian aggression. That was conspicuously absent in the communique released in delhi yesterday. So as far as ukraine are concerned, it represents a step back from the kind of comments the g20 was making last year. I dont think there was any great sense of surprise. I think there was always an expectation that india would try and find some middle ground between the western nations that are very keen on strong expressions of condemnation for russia, and other members of the g20 who are a little less comfortable with that. Its worth pointing out, and this is something that carl bildt, the former swedish Prime Minister, mentioned yesterday, that it does refer to the inadmissibility of countries altering International Boundaries through the use of force and the importance of sovereignty. So its a mixed package as far as ukraine is concerned, but certainly not as strong as they would have liked. Now, lets tell you about the flora world cup. The competition takes place every four years and was hosted by manchester in the uk for the first time. More than 200,000 flower stems were used, with an attendance reaching over 5000 people. A huge flower sale took place after the event to raise funds for a regional hospice. In the end, germanys Nicholas Peters has come home with the title of World Champion and the £15,000 grand prize that comes with it. So the met office do have warnings out for those thunderstorms which are likely to give some sudden Flash Flooding and frequent lightning. But as i say, there are some quite torrential downpours out there. No surprise really when you consider today has been the seventh consecutive day where temperatures have reached 30 degrees or above. Thats a record for september here in the uk and its really quite unbearable for some. But behind this Weather Front in the north, there is relief on the way behind. Its much fresher air as we start to introduce winds down from the north and the west. But its going to take probably until tuesday to clear the south, but it is going to eventually freshen up through the next few days. But for this evening, some fairly widespread thunderstorms, possibly even more further south to start with. And then our Weather Front, which has been more potent in the north as well today, will start to push southwards. So there will be some unsettled weather around, some tricky driving conditions through this evening and overnight. And for most, again, it will be really quite uncomfortable and close for sleeping because the humidity remains high. So theres mist and fog around first thing in the morning, which will take a while to clear. Then well see some brighter skies, butjust generally more cloud, i think, for england and wales tomorrow. 0ur Weather Front close by to Northern Ireland and Southern Scotland and Northern England for much of the day, brighter skies with a few showers behind and fresher here across the north of scotland. But for most, again, the humidity is high and well still see temperatures into the mid to high twenties for the south and east. However, its unlikely that were going to see 30 degrees again. Then through monday evening and overnight, that Weatherfront May Well Pop up again. Now, therell be a few thunderstorms anyway developing during monday ahead of this weather system, combining with that further Weather Front slipping south. So, again, another humid night in southern areas, but in the north, much fresher in scotland, Northern Ireland, even a touch of ground frost potentially in the glens in the north this week. Tuesday again sees that Weather Front pushing southwards. It will eventually reach more southern areas later in the day. Ahead of that, some brightness lifting the temperatures into the low twenties, but for most, it will be a more manageable day. The humidity gone, quite pleasant with the sunshine in the north, scotland, Northern Ireland much, much brighter. But you can see the outlook. The temperatures are a little lower. The humidity s gone, but its a generally changeable, showery picture. This is bbc news, the headlines the army clears a main road leading to the area worst affected by moroccos deadly earthquake allowing vital assistance to reach people. A landslide had blocked the way to the town of asni in the Atlas Mountains. The death toll currently stands at more than than two thousand. Us President Joe Biden visits vietnam to sign a new diplomatic partnership almost 50 years after the end of the vietnam war. Mr biden has met the communist party leader, and is due to have further talks on monday. The visit comes amid chinas growing influence in the region. A top ranking us Military Officer warns that ukraines army has little more than 30 days left of fighting before the weather hinders its counter offensive. General mark milley told the bbc that the ukrainian attack was going more slowly than hoped but was progressing at a steady pace. Now on bbc news. The briefing
