Account of inflation. If you take 2019 prices and look at what art can he was reported to have said that buy with a current average wage, it is about £512. Actually, back in march 2008, it was only 65p less. In 12 years, the amount we can buy with also the average wage has only advanced by 65p a week, that is all the gains we have had for 12 years. You can and see on the chart hull real wages came down for a while, although you are growing, inflation was growing faster. Quoted, saying nationals adding to the workforce. 49,000. Since the 2016 referendum, the number of uk nationals has increased by Something Like 800,000, far more than Migrant Workers in the last three years. One reason for that may be that women this number 10 operation has over 60 are not able to claim state repeatedly signed a willingness pension so they may be working to a to take on its critics, but even greater degree than needed in the though power does undoubtedly lie behind this door, past. Also, it might be connected to mr sabiskys departure shows that downing street isnt immune to political pressure. Jessica parker, bbc news. The Champions League is back heres nick miller tonight, with more bad news for tottenham ahead we are talking about the flooding, of their game tomorrow . There are still a lot of worry out they of their game tomorrow . Are certainly shaken and there . Absolutely, we have seen a we they are certainly shaken and today. We are into the business end of this lot of pictures of the horrible situation with the flooding. Some now and it is the knockout stages. Numbers behind me, that is monmouth there and the river wye. Look at this record level, it was 7 metres the knockout stages so not ideal timing if your star striker gets injured. On the river wye. The previous and in spurs case. This is a big one. Record wasnt even six and a half Heung Min Son has broken his arm. Not ideal considering theyre backin record wasnt even six and a half back in 2002. The numbers equates to already without harry kane. Son picked up the injury the larger area, you have to during spurs 3 2 win remember that this is peoples homes against aston villa at the weekend and businesses been so seriously when he actually scored twice. Affected here. Hereford, a good 1. 5 today the club put out a statement saying hes having surgery metres above the previous record and would be out for several weeks. Mourinho has been slightly less delicate about the situation. Set. To these are record levels he said if i was the one being recorded from storm dennis. To write the statement i would write different. And suggested hed be out for the rest of the season. The trent here, any wrecker today as a huge blow ahead of two huge matches for spurs coming up this week well, just marginally beating they first tomorrow nights won back in 2000. We have seen lots Champions League last 16 tie against rb leipzig. And then its 4th vs 5th of reports of evacuations at in the premier league when they head to chelsea on saturday. Jose had plenty to say ironbridge. This is not a record, about his current striker shortage. To quote he says we are Holding Still rising now. Some really see by our arms on the balcony. What . Honestly, there is so much more to this. If i were to quote the these effects from those numbers. Entire three and a half minutes, we they worry is, with all the rain, will not get into it. Basically, that still has to travel to the same he is in trouble. And liverpool areas . Yes, it is still feeding in. Returned to the stadium where they that is the worry with flooding. Won last year . Liverpool travel to Atletico Madrid there are peaks, there are tides, it at the very same stadium goes up and down all the time. I where they claimed their sixth european title last season, the wanda metropolitano. Will show you some rainfall totals jurgen klopp has described tonights opponents as a results machine, and the one team where you have to be at your absolute best. From february. Ask in south wales, they are however fourth nearly 200 millimetres of rain in in la liga at the minute compared to liverpool, february, the average is not even who are sitting pretty at the top 100. The main thing to take away of the premier league by 25 points. When it comes to who has the more excitable manager . From this is that they are all more well, klopp thinks he wont win that one tonight. Than double their february average so people say about me i am an rainfall, a month which is one of emotional on the sideline, so if i am on level four i would say diego the driest months of winter. Quite is on level 12 also. It is really an appalling situation. You said like it came to garden cup against winter, you are telling me that your bulbs are out . Yes, bulbs, plants, him. Like it came to garden cup against him. A kindergarten cup. After all these years, it is amazing there because it hasnt really been cold. It has all been about the rain, more is still this emotional level. Wow. It is actually impressive. They love in the forecast unfortunately. This an analogy, dont they . Is not yellow for daffodils, these to womens football as are yellow weather warnings for the england head coach, phil neville, has named parts of wales and Northern England. The everton striker, chloe kelly in his squad for the shebelieves cup. We are expecting several weather systems to arrive, adding more to kelly is evertons top scorer this season the rain. If youre in these areas, and has only made 0ne senior it is worth going online to check appearance for england. Out the details for what that means for you. It is not only are these grace fisk also gets her first senior call up. England face spain, japan and hosts areas that will see further rain as United States in the four team we go through the rest of the week. Tournament which starts on 5th march. So what does that mean for your england will be without Mako Vunipola for this weekends six nations match bulbs over the next few days . Some against ireland at twickenham. The prop has returned to tonga for family reasons. Losing vunipola is a major blow for england who have already of us has some snow falling, in lost his younger brother billy to a broken arm for highland scotland, where you would the entire tournament. The rest of eddiejones expect went out to be found in the squad from their win over hills. Snow showers are coming in, scotland is unchanged. Now, its fight week continue to do so for the next few and tyson fury says Deontay Wilder can only beat him by knocking him out. Days, colder spells moving in the pair meet in las vegas this weekend, nearly 15 months behind. Plenty of showers moving after their controversial draw. Both are still unbeaten. Through, strips of heavy rain for south east england, it may be a rumble of thunder and gusty winds also. Behind that, showers out there to knock out a knockout artist, you into the evening, a lot of them over have got to back them up and make them go back because while at night are going to fade away. If there is used to going for with his you went to one and staying in the whole career and knocking people out. He has never got anyone out on hills of scotland and Northern England. Fewer showers after the back foot ever, so his momentum is forward. All bullies, when they midnight, one turning drier are backed up and stood up to, fold. Learning. I see in places, starting while there is no different to any other belief. Cash wilder. Tomorrow with some sunshine, albeit quite hazy. Another area of low in other news the pressure, more weather fronts coming, we will all see more rain at american ryan newman, is in a serious but not life threatening condition in hospital, some stage tomorrow. Coming the this after crashing on the last lap of the daytona 500 in florida. He was leading when his car was tapped from behind, west, cloud increasing elsewhere, and it spun into the wall, before flipping and being continuing to push east across the struck by another car. Uk as the day goes on. The heaviest denny hamlin won his third title in five years, rain looks like through western but his main concern was for newman. Him crossing the track there was a scotland, north west england and bad scenario in the first place, but wales, especially into the north west. Heavy and persistent yeah, it is a weird balance of rain until the afternoon, totals excitement and happiness for heading up once more. The rain is on yourselves, but obviously someones health and their the move southwards during thursday, families are bigger than any win in any sport, so we so we just so wejust hoping quite a heavy area, with gusty and so we just hoping the best. Thats all the sport for now. Squally winds. The showers come into colder air once again, wintry on the hills of scotland, blizzards also, lets return to our main story the flooding thats had a devastating impact on some parts strong together Gale Force Winds of the uk. Here. As one system clears away, there are currently 8 severe flood warnings in place another one is coming in for friday, 6 in england and 2 in wales meaning there is a danger to life. Lasting into the start of the and were going straight weekend, so those weather warnings over to hampton bishop, thats in herefordshire, to continue. Flood and weather one of the worst affected counties. We can talk now to paul and katharine turner, managers at the bunch of carrots inn. Warning details available online. I dont know which one it he wants to go first, they give us a report exactly where the water is right now. 0k. Exactly where the water is right now. Ok. I would exactly where the water is right now. 0k. Iwould say it is exactly where the water is right now. Ok. I would say it is probably about three or four feet away from the actual front about three or four feet away from the actualfront door, about three or four feet away from the actual front door, but if you go out to the actual amine mode, it is literally like a winner. That is the best way to describe it. It is like a river. So you are effectively cut off, are you . Yes. We are cut off from town and also the other way, so literally we feel like an island in the centre. I know you have some things on the outside of this is bbc news our latest headlines. Evacuations are underway in several english counties the building, but how bad is the as the risk of flooding continues. Situation for you . We have come up Major Incidents have been declared in herefordshire, worcestershire and shropshire, and the river wye has reached to the 97 record and in 1960 as its highest level ever recorded. A british couple on board a cruise ship quarantined in japan well. It is nowhere like that. In say theyve tested positive for coronavirus, as the Foreign Office says its working to get all brits affected back to the uk. And government adviser 2007, on a sunday lunch it literally Andrew Sabisky resigns, came down a lot bigger and actually after a wave of criticism of his past comments flowed through the pub. That wasnt about eugenics and race. Bbc news learns some transgender people are a very gallant, turning to catherine self medicating with hormones bought and saying, was it 1960 . She is not online because of the long wait for specialist nhs appointments. Going to know, ishi . And catherine, presumably if you are cut out, no a ship has arrived at the International Space station with an important Delivery Business . Thats right. We have got from the uk. We find out how it will improve the pub open, but obviously it is the stations broadband connection to earth. And still to come. Waiting for the water. People are theres just no time to die coming in fora waiting for the water. People are coming in for a drink and the doors are open. We are the hub of the. The names eilish. Village and a lot of people have Billie Eilish we meet been affected and its. Great the 18 year old singer who is performing the theme spirit, with everyone, local farmers throwing stuff to and throw to town to the new james bond film. Sport now on afternoon live with holly hamilton. And local nursing homes, so it is the Champions League is back tonight, with more bad great to be open and try to provide news for tottenham ahead of their game tomorrow . A bit of an area for people to get two huge matches for spurs this week. So the last thing Jose Mourinho needed together if they can. Yes and i was was to lose another striker. But today the club announced that iti together if they can. Yes and i was it i was one of your neighbours, you son heung min has broken his arm are it i was one of your neighbours, you a re exactly it i was one of your neighbours, you are exactly where i would want to be and will have surgery right now. Yes, it is everyone later this week. He did it during spurs win against aston villa at the weekend coming together really. Like i said, when he actually scored twice. We usually do. We do our best. How the clubs statement said hell be out for a few weeks and mourinho easyis we usually do. We do our best. How easy is that . How easy is it to get was a little less delicate about it he says son will be out deliveries . Deliveries, to be honest for the rest of the season, none of them got through, so we and said the situation literally got in stock and that is couldnt be worse. It. Because you havent got the he says, no strikers, no market. Nothing. Fruit coming through, it is not nowjose admits himself he loves an analogy. Really a n fruit coming through, it is not. Brace yourself for this one. Really an issue. We have got enough beer, so we are ok. That is all great news. You obviously keeping an when we arrived, we were eye on the forecast at all times. What is main concern. . The weather in the 12 floor. We got the stairs can go up what is main concern. . The weather can go up and down so quickly, so it isjust watch this and we start climbing, but immediately in the beginning, the can go up and down so quickly, so it is just watch this space really. |j hope you dont mind me saying, but stairs, they broke, so we were in you both seem remarkably cheerful. I trouble, lots of work, lots of think a lot of people in the effort, and we start going and going situation would be nervous and downcast because this is ruining and going, and when we are arriving on the fourth floor, somebody come peoples livelihoods and lives around you. Luckily, we havent been and took the stairs away. So now we affected as much as some others, and are in trouble. Now we have two we have got to make the best of a options. One option is to get up and bad situation and just move on from here. Buti bad situation and just move on from here. But i know it is not as easy fall and normally die because it is for everyone else. Paul, is it your the fourth floor. Another way is to sense that this is just how it is going to be in future or is this a fight with what we have. No stairs. One off . Going to be in future or is this a oneoff . Well, no actually. The but arms. So we are going to be on river that has burst its banks is classed in a one as a one in 50. That balcony, fighting with what that means is every 50 years it everything we have. I havent got a is going to flood, but it is a bit clue either, to be honest. You more than that, so. To be fair, arent old enough. I remember the alignment agency are going to have to do something with that bank another manager who gave a weird and increase the size of it because press co nfe re nce another manager who gave a weird press conference talking about obviously this is happening more sheep. It is the same again all you often. This has mainly happened can do is smile and shake your head. Because the river wye was so high so it is up to the fans to try to help they basically had to shut it off so them out at this point and he hasnt this read cannot go into the river got any strikers left. He has taken wye. That the reason why it has flooded into the village. Obviously, it all in his stride, hasnt he . And you have got power, which is great. One manager who hasnt got a smile iam you have got power, which is great. I am wondering over all what you one manager who hasnt got a smile make of the support that people in the area are getting . There is some on his face isjurgen klopp. Criticism of the government for not being around and being visible in helping. Is that a deal you share . liverpool are in spain mean, obviously there are people for tonights last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid at the very same stadium being ferried out. The local farmers where they claimed their sixth european title last season. Jurgen klopp has described have been fantastic and also we have tonights opponents as a results machine. Had the army and they have been and the one team where you have to be at your absolute best. Taking people whose homes have been they are however fourth flooded. They have taken them out to in la liga at the minute safety. So that is where the compared to liverpool government have helped with the army, but i think we need to spend who are sitting pretty at the top more money in actually sort of of the premier league by 25 points. When it comes to who has building up the banks and things the more excitable manager . Like that and making sure it cant well klopp thinks he wont happen again and putting flood win that one tonight. Defences in place. And that is the so people say about me i am an method you would get if boris emotional at the sideline, but johnson turned up on the door, is ata at a level four, i would say diego it . Yes. Its just is at level 12. So it is really like johnson turned up on the door, is it . Yes. Itsjust helped out a bit and obviously the farmers are great, iama is at level 12. So it is really like i am a kindergarten cup against him. But really we could do with presenting the situation from after a ll i am a kindergarten cup against him. Happening at all. Catherine, would after all these years, having still this emotional level . Wow it is you invite him in for a drink . Definitely. We would have a chat. Absolutely impressive. This emotional level . Wow it is absolutely impressivelj this emotional level . Wow it is absolutely impressive. I dont know 0h, definitely. We would have a chat. We all need to take i think in one way, maybe it depends responsibility and accountability for that, but the excitement is we if you are a Glass Half Full glass half empty type of person. In one have got a really fantastic group of players that want to get better, way it is great that 80 of the wa nt to players that want to get better, want to learn and want to develop and want to challenge to win things. Losing vunipola is a major blow hundred people wouldnt be too bad. For england who have already if you had 5 of tens lost his younger brother billy to a broken arm for of thousands of the entire tournament. Numbers a lot of people who are in a ill have more for pretty serious condition. Like i you in the next hour. Say, it depends how you look at it. Thank you. Lets return to our main story it is tougher on the elderly. The flooding thats had a devastating impact on some parts of the uk. There are currently eight severe even the deaths flood warnings in place six in england and two in wales of people who work in meaning there is a danger to life. Our correspondentjon kay has sent hospitals, doctors and the like, this report from ross on wye in herefordshire. This has really worried people. If doctors dont know what theyre doing in terms of dealing with this, who does . It also shows how those medicalteams, nurses, doctors and others working hospitals at the the river wye should be in the far coalface or in a really dangerous distance out by those trees, but look how far it has come over the are in. Last few days, smothered 60 acres of situation. Farmland here. This is the farmer the picture gets better the further you move from the who should be looking after crops. Province where it originated. Out of the province it does seem to be there are crops underneath here that should be growing. They are dying at the moment and we have got 160 japan, the cruise ship, acres, currently under water. We are the only exception i can think acres, currently under water. We are a flood paining, but never to this level before. A flood plain. We ofjohn cheng has more people have never seen level before. A flood plain. We infected than any city in all of have never seen a china outside hubei province. Level before. A flood plain. We have never seen a level of water outside of that province, only one this high. So you are saying you are city has more people infected than a flood plain, so youre used to aboard that ship. It shows how many some flooding but it has never been people have been infected and why like this . We are designed to flood more countries are now deciding to send special flights in to take and let the water go downstream, and people out of japan. The uk is the latest. They are making arrangements it does it very well, but we have to have passengers flown out. The never had the water to this level. Passengers who leave that ship, 550 it is now four foot high. The level of water we are talking about is of them have tested positive, but actually quite humbling, it is even those who havent tested phenomenal. 160 acres at four foot positive when they return home they of water is millions of tonnes of will be going into quarantine for water. You are saying earlier the two weeks. Environment agency gauges, which measure the water flow and the water levels are broken, so dont even know what the level is nowyes. The gauge broke at 4. 7 metres, which was the previous record, and it is well 0ur reporter is going above that. The only gauge still to bring us the latest business news. Working as at hereford and that is first a look at the headlines on afternoon live more than 550 people at six metres, so we dont actually on the diamond princess cruise ship injapan have now tested positive know how high it is but all i know for coronavirus a british isi know how high it is but all i know is i have never had a tide line this couple say they have it but its not clear if the foreign high up on my field before. What office will be flying them home. Does this mean for you more than 160 flood warnings business wise . Are in place across england, does this mean for you businesswise . From a business point wales and scotland, including eight severe or danger of view, it is catastrophic. We have to life warnings. A government adviser resigns, got wheat under here that is dead after a wave of criticism of his past comments and that died in one of the earlier about eugenics and race. Floods. This rape crop is dying and it has only got if you days to last. Heres your business headlines on afternoon live. The problem for us now is we are in banking giant hsbc is to axe around the middle of february. This water 35,000 jobs after announcing is up here for the week at least. If a profits for last year fell by about a third. We had really good weather, we are the bank has outlined £3. 5 billion not going to be able to get anywhere of cost cuts by 2022 as part near these fields to repair them until the middle of march. And every of a major restructuring. Day than the middle of march onwards, we just lose yield and in the firms headcount is expected to fall to about 200,000 over the end it comes off bottom line. We the next three years. Are here in herefordshire, but in unemployment fell by 16,000 terms of the whole of the country, to 1. 29 million in the three months so terms of the whole of the country, so many pockets of the uk have been to december, according affected. What does this mean for to the latest official figures. Farming generally this winter with but increases in pay these flats . I think the autumn of slowed, rising by 3. 2 excluding bonuses, down from 3. 4 . 2020 is going to be discussed for many years. We have never had it so the government says the budget will go ahead on march 11th nationwide. The bread basket has the first from new chancellor rishi sunak. Been flooded, herefordshire, there had been speculation worcestershire, theyre trying to that the statement outlining bmb the governments tax and Spending Plans would be delayed, after former worcestershire, theyre trying to lamb outdoors in sodden fields. This is one of the worst floods ever. As chancellor sajid javid quit in the Cabinet Reshuffle last week. He was saying, this is going nowhere at the moment. It might have dropped slightly today, but there is more apple has warned that rain coming down from up further disruption in china into the catchment and it is a from the coronavirus could mean that revenues fall short pretty depressing and dramatic site. Of forecasts. The uks first major structural contribution and within the last few minutes, we to the International Space station will be delivered this morning. Have heard from the boss of jaguar the Communications Antenna is part land rover, making it clear that of a supply ship which took off from virginia on saturday. This does affect the Global Network the equipment, made by a firm in oxfordshire, is designed of supply. Apart from all over the to improve the stations broadband world come to the uk to be assembled connection to earth. Well, david kenyon from mda space for them. They said, it has got and robotics limited, the company that built the antenna enough parts to last it this week explained how the mission and next week, but not into a third was progressing. Week. As i said, it really does underline the concern that lots of it was a rocket which took the businesses around the world are having now about how much is made in china, the workshop of the world. Module up to the space station and that if production there is slowing, in factories they are closed, that then it approaches the space station has a huge knock on effect around the world. As you said, we heard and is captured by the from apple overnight. They said that it supply from china has been the remote arm to be docked onto the affected but also sales. The epidemic has had an effect and their space station, so it is sitting forecast of revenues for the year of there now safely captured and in the next day or so they will dock it. 67 billion, which is a Staggering Amount of money, but they have said this is a resupply mission, not a it will come in less than that manned mission. Nba won the contract because of the impact of coronavirus. They said they dont expect to meet the forecast they for that in about 2014. Mda. Provided in march. Instead of pointing at the ground are trying to talk to a ground station that is shooting underneath every couple of minutes, it points up every couple of minutes, it points up at every couple of minutes, it points upata a lot of companies are going to be every couple of minutes, it points up at a satellite and gives long exactly the same position, notjust periods of high bandwidth communication. This type of communication. This type of communication will be needed, not the big ones. Yes, it is interesting just on the International Space coming from the uks largest station, but also for new missions car maker. We know how popular those going to the moon, the new luna largejaguar car maker. We know how popular those large Jaguar Land Rover cars gateway, and the iss has still got a car maker. We know how popular those largeJaguar Land Rover cars are in china, one at the worlds biggest good lifetime to go with 40 car markets. But a lot of other experiment up there at the moment firms too. So on both ends, it is when scientists desperate to get their data to the ground, so this not only the manufacture of these will certainly be very much used parts and supplies but also the over the next few years and the sales because remember the Chinese Market is a hugely important one technology we have developed here will go on and be used in many other falls sort of businesses, everything from luxury goods to. We talked nations in the future. Billie eilish is only 18 about this yesterday, my northern and shes already won a clutch of Grammy Awards and has roots coming out without a no. 1 album. Eilish is also the youngest artist pronunciation. We talked about this to perform a title song for ajames bond movie and tonight shell sing no time with villagers in oxford are really to die at the brit awards. Suffering because of the number of she wrote the song with her Chinese Tourists travelling abroad brother and in the run up really suffering, so a huge number to tonights performance, theyve both been speaking to Louise Minchin. Of implications and we are just you made history at the grammys, getting a sense of what this could you played at the oscars, you are right on your way to having mean. Lets head to new york with number one here in the uk. Our reporter. How does it feel to be finneas Michelle Fleury is in new york. And billie right now . Overwhelming. It feels. Yeah, its insane. Its super crazy. Give us a sense of what apple said we just feel really lucky, mainly, ithink. Its a surreal thing, our lives, overnight because we were just as a whole, but it. Saying there is a big impact with we are very grateful for it. What is made and sold in china. Im the bad guy. Look, we are seeing is having a big knock on effect on car companies, duh and tech companies, and pharmaceutical companies. I think take us back a bit, for those who dont know a lot about you. What apple did overnight by giving you collaborate together, you are brother and sister, these figures was essentially put you are best friends. Mmm hmm. Some reality into a conversation is that true for both of you . That economists have been having for yes i know its true you say that, yes . A while, which is that we knew the oh, yeah. Undoubtedly, yeah. Coronavirus would disrupt the supply how did you start working together . Chain, but we just didnt know how it was, like, 2015. Badly. And here you have a huge i was 13, he was 17. And. Well known Technological Company it was kind of. Coming out and saying, this is what i dont. It means to us. They have a factory it wasnt a joke, but we kind of had this, like, i dont know. That makes parts for the iphone and i remember finneas they are saying that as a result of one time was like. I said this in an interview they are saying that as a result of the fact that the factory was shut a couple of months ago, down, it is now open but it is he wasjust, like, literally, this was a joke, he said taking longer than expected to ramp this as a joke, dude, im going to make you the biggest up taking longer than expected to ramp up production. That is having a pop star in the world knock on effect on its ability to name . Bond. Make iphones, so it thinks that the james bond. Supply of those around the world ive fallen for a lie. Will be constrained for the rest of this quarter and it also is going to ta ke this quarter and it also is going to take a hit from the fact that demand so, the bond song. In china right nowjust isnt there correct. Because the country is effectively no time to die. Shutdown. Does somebodyjust give you a call . How does it work . Because the country is effectively shut down. There are so many ways i dont actually remember. That manifests itself because we talk about things like fast fashion i do know that weve been wanting area talk about things like fast fashion are a lot as well. Lots of things to make a bond song for years, that are made in china and then sent and i rememberat the beginning out really quickly, shipped around the world and then sold. So it is of last year it was like not just tech firms like apple, the world and then sold. So it is we kind of told our whole team notjust tech firms like apple, it is all sorts of businesses. Yes. You that we were like, hey, if any bond things come, we want to be involved are talking about something as if we can possibly be. Simple asa whatever we have to do, we will do. Are talking about something as simple as a visit in a piece of furniture that you buy a refit in you were never on my side. A piece of furniture. But the supply who does it matter most . Will get disrupted, so they will your mums point of view, or Daniel Craigs . Have to find somewhere else to buy it from and that takes time. So we my moms point of view or daniel craig . are starting to see that kind of she is actually in the room with us. I think youd better say mum. Disruption play out. You mentioned what are you going to say . The car company there. There are wow, its a really hard one. Others who rely on auto parts and i well, this is the first song i know daniels opinion of, of ours. Think there are around four oh, you know the opinion . What has he said . Well, he had to like it. Factories around hubei itself close if daniel doesnt like it, you dont get the job. Hes got a big say in it. Down. So you can see. We have seen we learned that from this. Ididnt. I didnt think that would happen, but hes really involved. Asa down. So you can see. We have seen as a result of the trade dispute he could have vetoed it, wow. Absolutely. With america and china, some diversification away from that with some factories in cambodia and others relied on, but the problem is they dont have the scale and that you have a huge amount takes time. In china, we are of instagram followers. Yeah. Starting to see some factories open do you still Read Everything thats on instagram . No. Elsewhere, but the problem is that i stopped, like, two days ago. Just. People just arent there get. So literally two days ago. Have you stopped stopped . While the doors may be open, they i stopped reading comments, fully. Just dont have the labour yet who because . Because it was ruining my life. Have returned to work. In an was it . Once again. Something that is sorted related to yeah. This. I know you are a regular user its weird, like, the cooler of private jets private jet firms the things you get to do are, the more people hate you. Its crazy. Are doing very well out of this so youre playing at the brits tonight. Crazy. Because they dont have to worry yeah, so thats crazy for you, even at this stage . Yes about catching coronavirus. Do you feel nervous . Because they dont have to worry im just nervous to hit the belt, about catching coronaviruslj because they dont have to worry about catching coronavirus. Ijust worry about whether i turn left or to hit that high note. Im terrified. Right on a commercial flight. First time ever. Billie eilish speaking apparently, private owned firms are always winners in situations like to Louise Minchin there. This and this particular situation this and this particular situation this has led to a boom in demand for private jets. I wish we could be so lucky, but even there there is an issue because they cant necessarily i want the glasses. Get the glasses . Get the planes of the pilots because and the suit . May be not a suit. The pilots know that if they do fly to china, when they come back out dont reckon i could pull it off. They will essentially be grounded or quarantined for two weeks and they dont want to lose the work. So in a moment, ben is going to bring us the latest there is the demand there, but it is business news. First a look at the headlines ha rd there is the demand there, but it is hard to meet that demand. There is on afternoon live more than 160 flood warnings are in place across england, money to be made everywhere, isnt wales and scotland, including eight there . Thank you very much. Simon, severe or danger to life warnings. You like a privatejet more than 550 people on the diamond princess cruise ship there . Thank you very much. Simon, you like a private jet would 2 mack, this injapan have now tested positive dont you . You are joking. Just to for coronavirus a british couple say they have it but its not clear if the foreign rub salt into the wound, this is a office will be flying them home. Picture of a jet that most of us a government adviser resigns, after a wave of criticism will never see. This is how i get of his past comments about eugenics and race. Into work in the morning i find heres your business headlines on afternoon live banking giant hsbc is to axe around 35,000 jobs after announcing profits for last year fell by about a third. The bank has outlined £3. 5 billion of cost cuts by 2022 as part of a major restructuring. The firms headcount is expected to fall to about 200,000 over the next three years. Unemployment fell by 16,000 to 1. 29 million in the three months to december according to the latest official figures. But increases in pay slowed, rising by 3. 2 excluding bonuses, down from 3. 4 . The government says the budget will go ahead on march 11th the first from new chancellor rishi sunak. There had been speculation the statement outlining the governments tax and Spending Plans would be delayed after former chancellor sajid javid quit in the Cabinet Reshuffle last week. Big job losses at hsbc bens here. Yes, announced this morning. Not wholly unexpected, and much more severe though than first thought. This is essentially the bank readjusting to a new world order as far as Investment Banking is concerned. Dominated by us banks, but also looking around the world and where it can make a profit. The business there to make money, and it thinks that asia, where it makes a good percentage of its revenue. M is going back to its roots . Yes. It is going back to its roots . Yes. It is heading home and is going to focus on asia. Lots of Big Questions about how it will do that and also how you manage a business with that many staff. It beggars belief that you can lose that many staff and still run a global organisation, but it shows the scale at the beach or Something Like hsbc. So as we said, employing 40,000 people in the uk and has its business here, but no details of where it will come from. 35,000 jobs will go, and that is much deeper than we thus expected. That is equivalent to one in seven roles around the world of 15 and essentially it is the Investment Banking bit both in the us and in europe that will wear the brand. But no specific details. As i say, all of this coming as they report £10 billion of pre tax profit. That is a pretty decent figure by all accounts. Lets get more from a banking a nalyst. Chris roebuck is a banking analyst, lets talk to him. Asi as i was touching on there, the cuts are much deeper than we thought but this is a wider choice. Yes, youre absolutely right and certainly hsbc has gone through a of restructurings, but as you said earlier, then, it is absolutely critical to understand the size of this institution. 50 countries, 230,000 people and 90 of its profit comes from asia, so what they have got to do is look at where they make me money. Now, in any organisation of that size, over a period of years, costs start creeping in. It is about efficiency, and the problem that they have is even with previous so called restructurings, they havent really pulled out the cost that they should have pulled out and that they should have pulled out and thatis that they should have pulled out and that is why they have to take such drastic action now. And when we talk about streamlining this business, given the scale of it, it is hard to underestimate how difficult this could be. We are talking about huge numbers of staff here and of course, they have only got a new and interim chief executive at the moment so the new person when they come in have a pretty big task on their hands . Yes, and the interim chief executive has and the interim chief executive has a big task on their hands as well. Because here that he is concerned, people will be saying lets warwick not worry about what he says because he will be off in six months. So he has a challenge and if they are going to keep him they need to announce fairly soon. You are right, hsbc is looking at its role within the Investment Banking world. What of the Investment Banking products and activities do we really want to retain effectively as a Global Retail bank . Because we are not an Investment Bank, not a Goldman Sachs or morgan stanley. So there is a questionnaire about what they are going to do. Theres also the question about can they reduce their level of service in europe . Because europe is not making as much money as asia. And in their recent expansions over the last ten or 15 years of their retail arm in the United States, there is a question about how they can utilise their technology there to help them save money. And having been around since 1865, they have assets around the world that they could sell off. So there is a question about how they get more money in how they become more efficient, but that is notjust a financial question, that is a leadership question in terms of how the Senior Leaders in the bank get this across to the people in the bank. And just a word on that, to use their language, that pivot to asia. That idea that asia is where it will make all its money. The timing could not be worse in that sense, given the impact of coronavirus, where we are expecting isa coronavirus, where we are expecting is a pretty dramatic figures for a slowdown in china and wider asian markets. That could be a problem for them. Well, the benefit for hsbc is them. Well, the benefit for hsbc is the great thing is it is local, yet global. But the bad thing is it is global. But the bad thing is it is global yet local. We dont know what is going to happen with coronavirus. It coronavirus really get a grip, it is going to reduce Economic Activity ata fairand is going to reduce Economic Activity at a fair and that could reduce hsbcs profitability. But also think about the hsbc stuff out there. That could impact them as well. So the people on the board really have to get a people on the board really have to geta grip people on the board really have to get a grip of this to make sure everybody in the bag knows where that bank is going, wants to take it there and is looking that everybody in the bank,. Wants to improve efficiency. Thank you very much. So quite a lot of work in the interim and for whoever does take over there. A quick look at the numbers now. That hsbc number is falling pretty sharply, dragging down the wider ftse100. But a dragging down the wider ftse100. Buta similar dragging down the wider ftse100. But a similar picture in germany and remember the us markets closed yesterday and have opened again today. They are not really lagging too much as far as hsbc is concerned. And as chris was saying, it is about how they make that work and filter that through to the people working there. There are still 200,000 staff at hsbc, quite a lot of people to corral into this new model. Thats all the business news. Take a look at these pictures. The man in the blackjacket has just been approached by someone who demanded his cash and bank card. He is 77 years old, but he fights him off, forcing the would be robber to leave with nothing. The police said the targeted man acted with great bravery, and good on him. Now its time for a look at the weather with nick. More rain for some areas already dealing with synths of have as we all know, record river levels, particularly on the river severn and y. He was a deal on monmouth and of course some other areas seeing y. He was a deal on monmouth and of course some other areas seeing some really horrible conditions. We have also got some snow around at the moment in the highlands of scotland, plenty of wintry showers pushing into the hills here. It is a showery picture as we go through the rest of the day. This is a line of heavy downpours, and we may have some rumbles of thunder as it pushes through into the south and england for the evening rush hour. Hail and thunder in places and gusty winds, turning wintry not just thunder in places and gusty winds, turning wintry notjust over the highlands of scotland but across Higher Ground in Northern England and Northern Ireland as well. Through tonight, some of these will fade away, though some still around in scotland, but many of them dying away with clearing skies and temperatures dipping down to freezing. That does mean it was of icy patches in places tomorrow morning. Tomorrow morning will be fairly quiet, with some sunshine around, but not long before we get our next weather system moving in, which is going to provide more heavy rain in places as we go from wednesday into the south of england for the evening rush hour. More rain across eastern areas, pushing south with gusty winds across thursday. Behind it, yes, some sunshine but further showers and some snow across higher areas of scotland in particular and with stronger winds, they will be pleasa nt with stronger winds, they will be pleasant in the hills here. Moving south, a little bit of a gap thursday night into friday morning, but yet another area of heavy rainfall coming in for friday and more rain at times over the weekend as well. Particular pensioner and away he managed to fight off an attack at a bank card machine. Hello, everyone this is afternoon live. Im simon mccoy evacuations are taking place in shropshire and herefordshire amid severe flooding in parts of the uk. Hundreds of homes have been flooded after the rain caused by storm dennis, and the river wye in monmouth has reached its highest level on record. There are eight severe flood warnings in place six in england and two in wales meaning there is a danger to life. And there are 161 flood warnings in place across england, wales and scotland which mean immediate action is required. Our correspondent, phil mackie, sent this update from the banks of the river severn in worcester. Some of those severe flood warnings are on the river severn. North, upstream, in ironbridge in shropshire, and a bit further south in worcestershire. At Upton Upon Severn, in between the two, things have begun to drop. You can still see that river levels are particularly high, the restaurant there is having to pump water out to try and save itself, and perhaps get open as quickly as possible. That peak in ironbridge will down come through here at some stage tomorrow, so not out of the woods yet. Of course, everyone is looking at the forecast and it knows it isnt great. This morning, i have been travelling around the the city and outside just to see how people are beginning to clear up and what plans theyre making for whats to come. Theres water everywhere, this is where the river team and the river severn meet, and over the past few days its been as high as anyone can remember. It came through powick with such force it knocked down this wall, leaving mayhem in its wake. This is the river team, still a raging torrent. That is the flood plain, this river a raging torrent, miles and miles of water. That green bank is the flood defence that protected the nearby village, it came over the top of that, the Environment Agency is now pumping the water out to allow people back into their properties. Chris has been flooded before but not this badly, and not since the flood defences were built. This was footage he shot yesterday morning, when it was at its highest level. We were told when they built the flood defence, if it had been there before 2007, we wouldnt have been flooded and they said that was a one off. So we really thought we were safe and although thered been a couple of near misses over the last few years we were still confident we would not get flooded again. Roads are beginning to reopen but its still not easy to get about. In worcester, they are used to this kind of thing, this row of houses been flooded five times this winter. But it doesnt make it any easier. Quite a lot of the properties we can see have lifted their floors, theyve got ceramic tiles, wash proof plaster so when the flood water is gone, they can wash down, sanitise and try and get on with normal living. There have been calls for even more money to be spent on flood defences because of their increasing regularity. Weve got to realise now, what we called 1 in 100 year floods, when they happened 14 years ago, have happened three times in 21 years. Weve got these incredibly high levels from the river severn which are akin to what we saw in 2007, but elsewhere, weve been seeing all time record highs, and weve got to plan for that. Ten miles south in Upton Upon Severn they feared defences would be breached last night, it was close with the properties were saved. The river levels have fallen. But we are not out of the woods yet, there are Still Properties flooded and now we start to move into the recovery stage, however, there is more water, more rain due and that could lead to further flooding. Our advice is still heed the warnings, still make preparations and particularly forjourneys, plan your journey and do not drive into flooded rivers. Further up the severn there is another peak making its way down the river. In ironbridge, in shropshire, theyve had to evacuate properties. In herefordshire, residents have been rescued from a care home. And while things may be beginning to look better, theres more bad Weather Forecast so the danger wont past for several more days. Phil mackie, bbc news, worcester. Fellow, what is with these ones . They have proliferated over recent yea rs. They have proliferated over recent years. I think the river has gotten clea n years. I think the river has gotten clean and people feed them. They usually live on that side of the irreverent wit it is calmer, with the river at this level, they come over here. You can see those two having a kick in at the middle there. They really are very relaxed. The swans have become quite a landmark in worcester, you tend to find out when it floods, you get loads of people coming down to get their pictures. Actually, around lunchtime, there were a bunch of Chinese Tourists here taking selfies with the floods, the swans and the restau ra nt with the floods, the swans and the restaurant in the background. Earlier our correspondent kathryn stancheshun gave us the latest on the situation in Upton Upon Severn. Focus was very heavily on upton yesterday. They wanted has been receding, you can see here at the flood barriers, the water was probably up to about here at its peak yesterday. Now, its at about waist level. These are the first real test for these flood barriers, one person said to me earlier, actually, we are really pleased the class has withheld because we werent quite short. These barriers we re werent quite short. These barriers were put in in 2007 after a pretty catastrophic damage occurred to the town. Many of the businesses were affected, of course, they have been extremely worried, but these flood barriers have managed to hold up. You can see here at one of the businesses affected was the swan hotel, this was its electricity box, is looking ok so far. Ralph thompson is looking ok so far. Ralph thompson is the landlord of the hotel. A worrying night last night . Yes, very worrying. You get the information, would you like to leave the premises . I was like, nine. Would you like to leave the premises . Iwas like, nine. We would you like to leave the premises . I was like, nine. We were told it might come over the top, so all night vigil, bring the stuff upstairs, then bring down this morning. Luckily, it went down, not up. I hear you had all the curtains and everything . Not a lot of sleep either . About an hour. I think fell asleep on the table. Either . About an hour. I think fell asleep on the tablelj either . About an hour. I think fell asleep on the table. I cannot for the right reasons. We are basically hearing about the worst has gone, at the moment, but the river could peak again tomorrow at around 5. 7 metres, that could cause problems here in a upton. Im not sure how high you got yesterday, in terms of metres, but they are saying it could come up again on wednesday. Hopefully, we wont get much more rain making it worse. So the overnight vigil continue do they . Hopefully, not so much tonight, maybe wednesday night again. I need some sleep. I notice a lot of people have been coming down here to look at how the flood barriers are working, it has brought in some tourism in a way, but also, you have been an unofficial flood person, lots of people asking you things . Yes, some people have houses here who dont live here, they are bringing me up and asking what it is doing. They can see a little bit online, but it is just what they wa nt to online, but it is just what they want to know from me. Hopefully, the flood barriers will hold. |j want to know from me. Hopefully, the flood barriers will hold. I hope so. Its been a busy time for the Emergency Services in flood hit areas. The Mountain Rescue Team in monmouth, in wales, spent all of last night on call in case anyone needed help in the flooding. Here you can see them helping local resident peter morgan, who was stuck inside his house. Thanks to their group effort, peter was taken to dry land. Luke lewis, one of the mountain rescuers, joins me now from monmouth. You got the call, just focus through what happened . You got the call, just focus through what happened . Yes, we were asked to attend monmouth to assist the fire service and police there last night. We stayed overnight at the fire service premises. This morning, we we re service premises. This morning, we were asked to attend to this poor gentleman who was unfortunately stuck in his house because of the flood waters. When we attended, he was upstairs and couldnt get down, and we couldnt open the door. One of the party waited up to the door i had to break in with a sledgehammer. Eventually, we managed to get the gentleman down to the rescue sled. And with the help of two of our party, we packed a bag for him with some clouds, medicines, id managed to get him to dry ground. It was a bit ofan to get him to dry ground. It was a bit of an Emotional Rescue for us, but i will say she was in great spirits when we got any. Some clouds. Emotional, for him, the shock of it all. You had to break the door in, he would have been quickly aware of how much damage had been done to his home . Yes, he dropped a key down but unfortunately i dont work in the lock. It was a case of breaking in as best as we could and helping him out. We attended the rescue with the help of four other teams in south wales. We attend Major Incident on a regional basis. With the help of the guys there, also, heart, the hazardous and area rescue team, he was one of the parties that helped out with firstaid. We the parties that helped out with first aid. We got him warm and got him to dry land. An event like this really does bring out the best in people, doesnt it . It does, nobody wa nts to people, doesnt it . It does, nobody wants to see anyone in trouble. It is devastating when water enters the premises. The poor chap is going to return home to a not very nice. Its going to be devastating for him. If you didnt, im sure everybody watching would, we would like to thank you. How was he when you left him . He was in good spirits. We wrapped him up warm, he was passed on. Hopefully, he will make a recovery and return home, and have some help to get his home back in. Its an emotional time for everybody, isnt it . Look, im very grateful for your time, everybody, isnt it . Look, im very gratefulfor your time, thank everybody, isnt it . Look, im very grateful for your time, thank you for joining grateful for your time, thank you forjoining us french. Thank you for all the work you have been doing. A british couple on board a quarantined cruise ship in japan say theyve tested positive for coronovirus. Sally and david abel from northamptonshire are among 74 britons on the diamond princess, which was quarantined in the port of yokohama 2 weeks ago. More than 500 people on board have contracted the virus. Theyre due to be transported to specialist hospitals from tomorrow. Our correspondent nick beake sent this report. For two weeks, the diamond princess has been a floating prison. More than 3000 people quarantined to prevent the coronavirus spreading on shore. But all the time, more and more passengers have been testing positive on board. British tourist david and sally abel have been documenting their experience and pleading with the government to help them leave the ship. We had a message from the embassy to say theres possibilities, there might be things happening, there could be things. But there was nothing constructive. There certainly is no aeroplane on the way to japan to pick up the brits. Not to the best of our knowledge. We have not been informed of that, ok . But this morning in a Facebook Post david revealed the couple had both tested positive for the virus. Their son says britain has treated them appallingly. Ive seen the cracks in the armour, theyre coming down, my mum breaks into tears frequently, when we call her. And my dad is short tempered. But this is all because of the situation they are in, they are not getting any communication from our country, which is terrible. Following americas lead, south korea is among the countries preparing to fly its citizens home, using its president ial plane to do so. The uk Foreign Office now says its working to organise a flight back. But an evacuation is unlikely to happen today. All this as china released findings from the biggest study so far on this corona outbreak. Health officials in china looked at more than 40,000 cases of the coronavirus and concluded that more than 80 of them were mild. Unsurprisingly, the elderly and the sick were most at risk. The Research Also highlightsjust how dangerous the virus can be for doctors and nurses on the front line. As medical director of a hospital in wuhan, where the outbreak began, dr liu zhiming led the fight against this invisible killer. But he has now died after contracting the virus in himself. Back in the port of yokohama, where so many are so desperate to leave, the britons on board are among those who must wait longer for their misery to end. Nick beake, bbc news, hong kong. Well, lets get a deeper understanding on all this. Dr Bharat Pankhania is a senior clinical at the university of exeter. Looking at the way the numbers of those contracting the virus on the ship is going up exponentially would suggest that any attempt of quarantine is failing badly . suggest that any attempt of quarantine is failing badly . I would agree with you, it is of concern that we have so many cases. This is unexpected, and i have been racking my brains for the last few days, watch out the numbers going up and wondering what is going on. I am concerned that, could it be that there is an alternative way of transmission of this infection because of the special circumstances in which the people happen to be, ie, ona in which the people happen to be, ie, on a boat, enclosed in a cabin, with just the air conditioning that they have. Im beginning to wonder, could just be implicated . That would have massive implications, because at the moment, we are being told that this is spread by liquid and a close contact. If, as you suggest, there is a chance it could be contracted through air conditioning units well, that changes the whole game in terms of combating this, doesnt it . This is a special circumstance on this ship. We have had something similar like this in the 2002 sars outbreak, whereby, the air Conditioning Systems were also implicated. I think under some special circumstances, could it be that this coronavirus is also transmitted through other means . We dont know. What is of concern, hence, the questions im asking, is why so many people have been infected. It sounds very unusual, considering that they were put under quarantine. I think, considering that they were put under quarantine. Ithink, overall, the virus is definitely transmitted as a droplet spread. But could it be, under special circumstances confined in a cabin over a long period of time, with this recirculated air system could this have led to the extra cases that we see on this cruise liner . It wouldnt just be see on this cruise liner . It wouldntjust be a cruise liner, because at the uk are saying that when everybody comes back to the uk, they will be put into a hotel. There isa they will be put into a hotel. There is a hotel at heathrow, which presumably has air conditioning, they would face exactly the same problem . Yes and now, your question is very relevant. My thinking is that the people in at the hotel are in quarantine, in other words, they arent cases. But the moment they become a case, they cannot be house in at the hotel under any circumstances, because if this is a hypothetical thing, whereby, the virus may travel through the air conditioning system, then its a no brainer you cannot have a case in a hotel room. I think the uk governments plans are, if you were to become a close, you would be moved to a clinical setting, knock it in that hotel room, even if you are otherwise well. Thank you for joining us. The jury in the trial of the Film ProducerHarvey Weinstein are beginning deliberations today. Six women have testified against mr weinstein, whos facing charges including rape and sexual assault. He says that any sexual encounters were consensual. Nada tawfik is in new york for us. So whats the timetable from now on . This is the point where Harvey Weinsteins fight is on at the durie hand, seven men and five women. Fight. It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to deliberate on this, who they ultimately believe. The six women who testified that they were sexually assaulted and raped by Harvey Weinstein . Or Harvey Weinstein, the powerful hollywood producer . Iwill Harvey Weinstein, the powerful hollywood producer . I will be interesting to see if the studio will be able to come to a unanimous decision. Remember, this case does revolve around a testimony of those involved, rather than any direct evidence. From the prosecution standpoint, they have tried to argue that harvey was standpoint, they have tried to argue that h. Ghee used was standpoint, they have tried to argue that h. Ghee used his was i the rapist, who used his power in the industry to offerjob offers, and then allowed to his hotel or whom, then allowed to his hotel or whom, then attacked them attacked them and try to silence them. The defence, on the other hand, has said that Harvey Weinstein is a victim of the metoo movement, and while jurors weinstein is a victim of the metoo movement, and whilejurors dont have to like him, they have to distinguish whether he did commit any criminal acts. The used e mails and other testimony from other women who are friends of the accuser is to say that all of these sexual encounters were consensual, even loving. It will be a very interesting case to see what the jury interesting case to see what the jury decides in at the end. It is interesting that his fate may be in at the hands of women who he is actually not charged in connection with, but did give evidence . M actually not charged in connection with, but did give evidence . It is important to note that while more than 80 women have accused Harvey Weinstein, this case really looks at not only incidents that happen in new york, but very few of the incident. It involves two main accusers, a Production Assistant who said that weinstein sexually assaulted her, and an aspiring actress who actually had a long relationship with line, which he said it was a very toxic relationship. But he said that he raped her. Basically, during the course of the relationship, he was very, very intimidating. Prosecutors have tried to say that even though these women kept in contact with weinstein, that this is normal, that sometimes victims try to maintain relationships, that is a very normal thing. In fact, relationships, that is a very normal thing. Infact, harvey relationships, that is a very normal thing. In fact, Harvey Weinstein was the one he wanted to stay in touch with them to ensure their silence. Just to point out that although these are the one who testified, with the four others, where really there to support the sexual predators charge in this case, really help to bolster it. We saw in the bill cosby case, the testimony of additional women really did help the jury. The new chancellor rishi sunak has confirmed that the budget will go ahead as planned, on the eleventh of march. oov there had been speculation that it would be postponed, after sajid javids resignation in fridays reshuffle. But the chancellor has said he is cracking on with preparations for the statement next month. Average weekly wages have returned to pre economic crisis levels for the first time. The latest figures on the economy from the office for National Statistics show that weekly pay reached £512 in the three months to december the last time it was this high, after adjusting for inflation, was before the downturn in 2008. Next week, members and official supporters will begin voting in the labour leadership and deputy leadership contests. Over the next three days well be looking in depth at the three candidates hoping to become leader of the opposition. Today, our Political Correspondent iain watson looks at the career of the shadow business secretary, rebecca long bailey. What im talking about is real aspiration. Its called socialism, and its what we believe in. Cheering. Aspirational socialism, thats rebecca long baileys pitch. Firmly in the left of the party, she is certainly a socialist. But as for aspiration, well, shejoined labour in 2010, became an mp in 2015, wants to lead the party in 2020 and become a potential Prime Minister by 2025. The daughter of a docker, she did a whole range ofjobs before being elected to represent salford. Mostly, though, she was a solicitor, working on nhs contracts. But she also did this. I worked in a pawnshop, thats p a w n shop. Laughter. She is backed by the left wing grassroots group, momentum, and the big unite trade union. Her critics call her the continuity corbyn candidate, and certainly she rated his leadership ten out of ten. Shes the candidate closest to his politics but, unlike the current labour leader, she wouldnt rule out pressing the nuclear button. If you have a deterrent, you have to be prepared to use it. She thinks too much was crammed into the 2019 manifesto, but she doesnt distance herself from the contents. She said she didntjust agree with the policies, shes spent the last four years writing them, and as shadow business secretary she is particularly proud of her work on her partys environmental stance. It was a great set of policies, both for our quality of life but also for our industries, and we need to recognise that we didnt really do enough to sell that in the election campaign. On brexit, unlike some of her rivals, shes said shed been against a second referendum and the partys offer of a new public vote had simply baffled the electorate. We talked about having a vote on the final deal, and the next question that came was, well, are you going to vote for your own deal if you get a deal . And then the answer to that was, well, were not sure, because well have to see what it looks like. And that was a bit of a disastrous position for us to be in. But what does she do to relax . Well, she says shes pretty down to earth. No one gets in the way of my netflix and chinese takeaway on a friday night. Apparently i wasnt exciting enough when i said that. I dont know what they expect me to do. Start, like, paragliding on a friday night or something . But perhaps some of her leisure pursuits have a bit more edge. Well, ill leave it up to you to decide why i was in amsterdam. Its either my inherent love of flower markets or it was to partake in the local delicacies. Rebecca long bailey is working hard to rally the labour left. But the big question is whether she can reach out to other members of her party and then to the country. Iain watson reporting there. Now its time for a look at the weather with nick miller. The fighting continues, all eyes on weather more rain is on the way. That is a short answer to that, and is yes. We are looking at showers for the rest of today, a line of heavy downpours rain through england and wales, targeting the south east of england during the evening rush hour. Behind that, plenty of showers coming in, turning increasingly wintry. Some of these will fade as we go through the night, temperatures dip away to close to freezing, so frost and icy patches. A quiet start to wednesday, but rain pushes into parts of South West England and south west wales. This will push further east across the uk as we go ona will push further east across the uk as we go on a free wednesday, meaning we are setting up for another spell of persistent rain, particularly into the welsh hills, north west england and western scotland. It will also be quite windy with that. This is bbc news our latest headlines. Evacuations are underway in several english counties, as the risk of flooding continues. Major incidents have been declared in herefordshire, worcestershire and shropshire, and the river wye has reached its highest level ever recorded. An elderly man trapped in his flooded home is brought to safety by Mountain Rescue Teams in monmouth. A british couple on board a cruise ship quarantined injapan say theyve tested positive for coronavirus, as the Foreign Office says its working to get all brits affected back to the uk. The jury in the trial of the Film Producer, Harvey Weinstein, begin deliberations today. The charges he faces include rape and sexual assault. And coming up, the brit awards take place tonight. Our entertainment correspondent, colin paterson, is there, and well bring you all the action from the red carpet. Sport now on afternoon live with holly hamilton. The Champions League is back tonight, with more bad news for tottenham ahead of their game tomorrow . Son heung min looks to be out for the rest of the season. Hes broken his arm and will have surgery later in the week. He did it during spurs win against aston villa at the weekend, when he actually scored twice. When you consider spurs are already without their star striker, harry kane, this is a huge blow forJose Mourinho, who said he thinks son will be out for the rest of the season. The of the season. Club said they thought he would only the club said they thought he would only be out for eight few weeks. Eight few weeks. Not ideal, considering they have a Champions League last 16 tie tomorrow night a huge fixture in the premier league at chelsea on saturday. Mourinho says the, situation couldnt be worse. We know he loves an anology see if you can keep up with this one. When we arrive, we were in the 12 floor. We got the stairs and we start climbing, but immediately in the beginning, the stairs, they broke, so we were trouble, lots of work, lots of effort, and we start going and going and going, and when we are arriving on the fourth floor, somebody come and took the stairs away. So now we are in trouble. Now we have two options. One option is to get up and fall and normally die because it is the fourth floor. Another way is to fight with what we have. No stairs. But arms. So we are going to be on that balcony, fighting with everything we have. I have listened to this a few times now and i think i am getting to grips with it. The idea is when they came in, there were 12 of their team and they had a long way to go, but he thinks they are finally making progress, but now they have had a setback, so now he says either they can give up and fall of the balcony. Does that make sense . You lost me at he. Lets move on while we can, where we still hope that false might have a pulse. Liverpool are in spain for tongihts last 16 tie against Atletico Madrid at the very same stadium where they claimed their sixth european title last season. Jurgen klopp has described tonights opponents as a results machine. And the one team where you have to be at your absolute best. They are however fourth in la liga at the minute compared to liverpool, who are sitting pretty at the top of the premier league by 25 points. When it comes to who has the more excitable manager . Well klopp thinks he wont win that one tonight. So people say about me i am emotional on the sideline, so if i am on level four i would say diego is on level 12 also. It is really like a kindergarten cup against him. After all these years, it is amazing there is still this emotional level. Wow. It is actually impressive. To womens football as the england head coach, phil neville has named the everton striker, chloe kelly in his squad for the shebelieves cup. Kelly is evertons top scorer this season and has only made one senior appearance for england. Grace fisk also get her first senior call up. England face spain, japan and hosts United States in the four Team Tournament which starts on 5th march. And phil neville admits his side are looking for improvment in this tournament as their form has dipped since last summers world cup. You know, in football and in management youre going to get times when things are going well and you are going to get times when things dip. And after the world cup, things dipped. We all need to take responsibility and accountability for that, but the excitement is we have got a really fantastic group of players that want to get better, want to learn and want to develop and want to challenge to win things. And now it is the challenge for the next 12 months. England will be without Mako Vunipola for this weekends six nations match against ireland at twickenham. The prop has returned to tonga for family reasons. Losing vunipola is a major blow for england, who have already lost his younger brother billy to a broken arm for the entire tournament. The rest of eddiejones squad from their win over scotland is unchanged. Thats all the sport for now. Now on afternoon live lets go nationwide and see whats happening around the country in our daily visit to the bbc newsrooms around the uk. Harry gration is in leeds, talking about an undercover he will appear. Investigation by the bbc where a reporter has been able to buy class a drugs and have them delivered in less than 10 minutes. Tell us more. Well, i have to say simon, im really proud of the team that has managed to uncover this story. As you probably realise, in an investigation like this, it doesnt just happen overnight. They spent five months trying to get hold of this story and of course, the preparation involved in that had yielded real dividends. You will right there when you said that we spent £60 and we managed to get hold of two class a drugs, ecstasy and cocaine or derivative of ecstasy as well. And i think really, what has surprised everybody was just how easily they managed to get hold of the information. I think it is probably best if i show you this clip because it probably tells the whole story. You still got bud . Huh . You still got bud . Bud is cannabis, md is mdma, better known as ecstasy, a class a drug. Its quite astounding that some of these drugs are being delivered in less time than it takes to order a takeaway. They are saying it can be delivered in seven minutes and that is what we experience, for making the booking if you like, to being delivered. What we were surprised that, ive got a number of cards here that have been redacted. There are no telephone numbers on here, but you can see they are quite clearly business cards, effectively offering this service. And i think as far as people like myself are concerned, and asa people like myself are concerned, and as a parent who will be getting 2 mack boys hopefully into University Next year, it is a warning that really you have got to be aware of the situation. One at the knock on effects of this is that those people who have said no to drugs mightjust those people who have said no to drugs might just be those people who have said no to drugs mightjust be persuaded with this kind of bizarre personal service because if you can get the drugs delivered in a little packet, injust seven minutes, well, it might change your mind about trying this kind of thing. I hope that is not the case, but i think that is why this particular investigation is so why this particular investigation is so important for so many reasons. Yeah, and you have had a good team working on this and it is your lead item on tonight, is it . Yes, we have got the Yorkshire Police here as well. The filming was done in hyde park, an area of leeds where drugs are very park, an area of leeds where drugs are very easily available. We will be asking the police what they are doing. As to give you an idea of how difficult it is for them, they cant actually act specifically on this information because you cantjust get somebody for possession, you have got to have the whole facts behind the story. So we will try and delve into that on look north this evening. Thank you very much. We would go to the forecast, but we will get the forecast later. If you would like to see more and any other stories, you can access them by via the bbc iplayer and a reminder that we have nationwide every afternoon at 430 piano here on after new life. James bond. Ive fallen for a lie. So, the bond song. Correct. No time to die. Does somebodyjust give you a call . How does it work . I dont actually remember. I do know that weve been wanting to make a bond song for years, and i rememberat the beginning of last year it was like we kind told our whole team that we were like, hey, if any bond things come, we want to be involved if we can possibly be. Whatever we have to do, we will do. You were never on my side. Who does it matter most . Your mums point of view, or Daniel Craigs . My moms point of view or daniel craig . she is actually in the room with us. I think youd better say mum. What are you going to say . Wow, its a really hard one. Well, this is the first song i know daniels opinion of, of ours. Oh, you know the opinion . What has he said . Well, he had to like it. If daniel doesnt like it, you dont get the job. Hes got a big say in it. We learned that from this. Ididnt. I didnt think that would happen, but hes really involved. He could have vetoed it, wow. Absolutely. No time to die you have a huge amount of instagram followers. Yeah. Do you still Read Everything thats on instagram . No. I stopped, like, two days ago. Just. Literally two days ago. Yes do you feel nervous . Im just nervous to hit the belt, to hit that high note. Im terrified. First time ever. Billie eilish speaking Louise Minchin there. A government adviser has resigned, after a wave of criticism about past comments he made about eugenics and race. mix Andrew Sabisky suggested black people have lower 10s than white people. Hes also alleged to have said compulsory contraception could prevent creating what he called a permanent underclass. He was drafted in to number 10 after the Prime Ministers chief adviser, dominic cummings, called for misfits and weirdos to apply to advise the government. Andrew sabisky has accused the media of selective quoting and hysteria. Our Political CorrespondentJessica Parker reports. Andrew sabisky, hired to work at the heart of government after dominic cummings, the Prime Ministers senior aide, said he wanted to recruit misfits and weirdos. Reporter why did you hire sabisky . Today, not an apology from mrcummings, but a reading recommendation. Reporter have you got any more weirdos . Read Philip Tetlocks superforecasters, instead of political pundits who dont know what they are talking about. Reporter so, do you regret his appointment . In iraq and afghanistan, our troops fought bravely. Andrew sabisky, seen here in a 2017 bbc programme, is a self described superforecaster someone who can supposedly predict future events. But it was past comments online in his name that caused controversy. He was reported to have said that. Also. And. All so are applications to work at number ten being properly screened . I think we should prevent racists from coming into number ten, or wherever he was working. I think we do need to look at these processes. But the fact is his remarks have been identified and now hes very quickly been pushed out. Andrew sabisky may be out, but downing streets refusal yesterday to condemn the remarks attracted searing criticism from Opposition Mps and caused disquiet too on tory benches. I think his comments were racist, they were deeply unpleasant towards women and disabled people, and that is why yesterday i had to call out the fact that number ten were not distancing themselves from his comments. Announcing his resignation, Andrew Sabisky claimed hed been selectively quoted, saying. This number ten operation has repeatedly signed a willingness to take on its critics, but even though its power does undoubtedly lie behind this door, mr sabiskys departure shows that downing street isnt immune to political pressure. Banking giant hsbc is to axe around 35,000 jobs after announcing profits for last year fell by about a third. The bank has outlined £3. 5bn of cost cuts by 2022 as part of a major restructuring. The firms headcount is expected to fall to about 200,000 over the next three years. Unemployment fell by 16,000 to 1. 29 million in the three months to december, according to the latest official figures. Hsbc to cut 35,000 jobs. One in seven of its Global Workforce. Yes, they will lose theirjobs are there number that years as part of plans to streamline hsbc, as you know, hong kong and shanghai banking corporation, has a lot of exposure and a lot of that profits come from asia, so it expects to be badly affected by that. Also a lot of uncertainty around brexit meant that people put out the investments or spending. And globally low Interest Rates have been blamed for it to come expecting suggesting that it is very difficult to make money when Interest Rates are so to make money when Interest Rates are so low, so it seems to be a number of different factors altogether and the boss has said we need to streamline things and make things simpler. So it is basically everybody elses fault . Pretty much, yes. Ifind it hard to everybody elses fault . Pretty much, yes. I find it hard to understand how you can catch 35,000 staff and still be a global bank. But competition is pretty stiff. Lets speak to tom. Tom stevenson is investment director at fidelity international. Can hsbc really compete with the others . Yes, it really isnt everyone elses fault, it is down to hsbc. It is a big global organisation, but it makes all of its money in asia. It has a footprint in the us, where it is underperforming, and Investment Bank based in the city of london, where it is also underperforming. What we are going to see if the us business rained in, maybe one third of business on there. Lets talk about thejobs figures we business on there. Lets talk about the jobs figures we have this morning from the office for National Statistics. Unemployment falling, wages still going up, but by not as much. We have been crunching the numbers here, and it suggests that we are now back to the levels we saw before the crisis, but we are 55p better off than we were 12 years ago. We shouldnt all go out and spend that money, should we . Know, dont spend it all at once. 12 years is quite a long time to get back to where you started in real inflation adjusted terms, sol where you started in real inflation adjusted terms, so i think that they are not particularly having good news. It was spun as good news, but a 2. 9 increase in earnings is only better because inflation is so low. And of course, if you are seeing an increase in pay, great news, but as we say, not enough to write home about. Why . Explain why this happens because essentially, it is just going up when businesses feel it needs to pay more to get the right staff. Yes, and at the moment they dont feel they need to do that. The productivity is very low in the uk andl productivity is very low in the uk and i think what businesses are doing is they are keeping people on in orderto keep doing is they are keeping people on in order to keep things ticking over, but they dont feel the need to pay them any more because there are plenty of people around to do that work. And lets talk corona virus because lots of businesses are now making it clear about what impact it could help on them. Yesterday we heard from apple, who are worried not only about sales in china, but about being able to get the supplies they need. We heard from fashion today, warning about that it could be disastrous for them. Give us a sense about how badly this could affect specific business. Yes, it is those kinds of businesses with complex supply chains, things Like Technology and the car industry who are really suffering here. Clearly, when the disease is sorted out, people will go back to spending and some of those businesses will get back on their feet pretty quickly. But if you have got a very complex supply chain, as those businesses have, thenit chain, as those businesses have, then it is going to take longer and thatis then it is going to take longer and that is the big fear. That this might drag on for longer. Everyone knows china is going to have a bad first quarter, but the fear is it was drag on into the Second Quarter and that is why stock markets have taken this so badly today. They have been pretty high on the hope that we will get a nice de shaped recovery, but that has been cast into doubt by apple. Tom, thank you very much. Lets see what that is meant for the numbers. You can see their other banks are down as a result, barclays and royal bank of scotland also have concerns about what a move for hsbc away from Investment Banking might mean and how that might affect them. They have been dragged down by those banking stocks, which are falling pretty slowly. Dont move it, there isa pretty slowly. Dont move it, there is a logo on it. Dont show it. Can ijust ask, when i spilt my lunch the other day on my tie, you pointed out. Did you still sunning on your tiejust now . No, it is fine. Take your tie out. This isnt the time of day or the type of show. For the record, can i just day or the type of show. For the record, can ijust say he did no anyway, then. You are due back in manchester soon, if it. Anyway, then. You are due back in manchestersoon, if it. Right, anyway, then. You are due back in manchester soon, if it. Right, that is it for ben for a long, long time. Youre watching afternoon live. A single mother in russia is facing six years in prison for her political activism. Anastasia shevchenko has been under strict house arrest awaiting trial for more than a year. Shes banned from communicating with anyone other than officials and her relatives. Those conditions have now been eased slightly, allowing her to talk about her case to the bbc for the first time. Shes accused of links to a Pro Democracy Group, open russia uk, which has been banned in russia as a threat to state security. Sarah rainsford went to meet anastasia in the south of the country. Walking the dog is a big deal for anastasia and for bailey. Under house arrest for over a year, the opposition activist has just been allowed out for a daily walk. That means meeting her 8 year old at the school gates again. Micha has missed this. His mum has missed a lot. Its not only the sun and fresh air, its also a wind that touches your skin even because you dont feel it at all. The new rules mean we can talk as well for the first time. Its like a nightmare, you know, but if you are a political activist in russia, you just have to be prepared somehow or anything. For prison. The single mum is accused of links to a Pro Democracy Group based in the uk that is banned here is undesirable. She now has this electronic tag. Thats how they control me. The case is based on a political debate and a protest with a banner against vladimir putin. Translation i think they want to frighten activists, to show that if people are politically active, they will end up like me in custody and suffering. The family has been trying to keep life as normal as possible under house arrest, though misha has been having nightmares. And while her dog is happy she gets to be out now, she wants to go to restaurants and shopping like she used to. And despite the house work and home workers use to all, theyve all been on edge since they discovered investigators installed a spy cam in the aircon unit of their flat. Translation i saw the photos and realised there had been the camera. I was in my pyjamas. It was above the bed. For six months, what do they think i do . Plan a coup in my bed . There has been tragedy as well. Anastacias oldest daughter alina lived in care. She had brain damage. When she fell sick, her mother wasnt allowed to visit until it was too late. She wants to scatter alinas ashes at sea but that is impossible under arrest. Anastasia is making the most of her new limited freedom. The trial is due soon and hte activist could be facing up to six years behind bars. More now on our top story the fresh flood warnings across many parts of the country. Environment minister rebecca pow has just been speaking to our correspondent phil mackie in worcester saying she sympathises with the flood victims in this area, and the whole of the severn catchment area, we have seen record flooding its unprecedented. But what i will say is, its absolutely tragic for those people who have been flooded, and thats between about 500 and 1000 homes. My heart goes out to those people. But if it wasnt for the money that this government and successive governments have invested in the last 20 years, on a flood of this scale, one would have expected between 7000 and 10,000 homes to be flooded. So the work thats been going on consistently and conscientiously, with the money going up in every spending round, is definitely protecting increasing numbers of properties. And thats what we should be doing. Before we go, take a look a these pictures. A pensioner was taking money out of an atm outside a supermarket in cardiff when he was approached by a masked man, demanding his cash and bank card. As you can see the 77 year old man fights him off, forcing the would be mugger to leave with nothing. South Wales Police Said the victim showed great bravery but had been left shaken by the incident. Now its time for a look at the weather with nick. Well, as the flooding continues, all eyes on whether more rain is on the way. There is a short answer to that yes. And more rain to some areas already dealing with some severe flooding some rivers at record levels. It will be targeting the south east of england. Before some of these will fade as they go overnight, temperatures are close to three zone, so fast and icy patches where you have seen zone, so fast and icy patches where you have seen some zone, so fast and icy patches where you have seen some showers. A bit of quiet for wednesday, but already more rain pushing into South West England wales and it will push further east across the uk as we go on into wednesday and that does mean we are setting up for another spell of persistent rain, particularly into the welsh hills, north west england, western scotland and it will be quite windy with that as well. Today at five severe flood warnings and evacuations as river levels continue to rise in some parts of england and wales. More rain is forecast and some rivers are reaching their highest point ever recorded. Here in worcester, the river levels are going down slightly at the moment but but they are going to come back up tomorrow as we see moment but but they are going to come back up tomorrow as we see some of the worst flooding this region has ever seen. Well have the latest from the affected areas. The other main stories on bbc news at 5pm a british couple on board a cruise ship quarantined injapan say theyve tested positive for coronavirus, as the Foreign Office says its working to get all brits affected back to the uk. My mum, she breaks into tears frequently when we call her
