Play with friends. I want to fight for the next life, for paradise. I used to go out to the seaside. Thousands in mexico demand police speed up their efforts to find 43 missing student teachers. And the drummer of one of the worlds best known heavy metal bands ac dc is charged in new zealand with plotting to have two men killed. Also in the program, aarons here. Today its all about the plunge in the oil price. Absolutely, karin. Its deeper into the red for the black stuff. Falling to a fouryear low. Its nearly 30 lower than what it was in june. Why . Theres less demand and a lot more supply. Particularly since the revolution of shale production. So yes, we head to the United States to take a look at how fracking has become a mighty big business. Hello. Midday here in london. 7 00 a. M. In new york. 2 00 in the afternoon in syria, where activists say there have been more u. S. Air strikes overnight against islamic extremists. They come as the town of kobane is still under siege from Islamic State. A United Nations report accused i. S. And other jihadist groups of a staggering array of human rights abuses, including forcing children to join their ranks. Our correspondent mark lowen has been investigating the recruitment of young syrians in turkey. He joins us now. Mark, over to you. Reporter karin, thank you very much indeed. Its been called by human rights officials the school of jihad. The forcible recruitment of children by an array of militant groups in syria, including Islamic State. Youngsters being forced to be child soldiers, snipers, suicide bombers, according to the u. N. Some are among the 1. 6 million syrians now staying here in turkey from where they fill their jihadist operations. I traveled down to a southern turkish province to hear the stories of current and future child soldiers. He is 13 years old. He calls himself abu hatab, and he plans to join Islamic State. They reach out online. Social media feeding his ideas. Born in syria, he was radicalized a year ago, learning to fight with another jihadi group. This is the story of how militants are seizing the next generation. Building their army of the future. He insists on dressing like his heroes. Translator i like Islamic State because they pursue sharia law and kill infidels as allah ordered. Reporter a lot of people would say youre 13 years old, enjoy your childhood. Translator i dont want to play with friends. All i want is to fight for the next life, for paradise. I used to go out to the seaside, but now i have taken the righteous path. Reporter at home in southern turkey, he and his mother lead a devout life. She has strong sympathies for the militants but denies shes brain washed her young son. Translator Islamic State came to help the syrian people, unlike the evil powers in the world. But i dont support all their ideas. I sent my son to train for jihad. I cant stop him if he wants to join the Islamic State. Let him become a future leader. I would not be sad if he were to kill westerners. Translator if your son dies fighting a jihad, fighting for Islamic State, how will you feel . Translator i would be so happy. Reporter the militants have recruited heavily among children according to the u. N. Other jihadi groups are using child soldiers, too. Mohameds younger brothers are fighting with the al qaeda offshoot in syria. This one is just 13. Translator i feel so bad, he should be at school. But they give children 100 a month to fight. I used to have fun with him, but now when i told them they would destroy us, he said shut up or i will kill you. Reporter the syrian children who joined these militant groups grew up in war, and much of their motivation must come from that experience. Their formative years have been blackened by hatred. Their mindsets altered. Their childhood stolen. The innocence of a generation is being destroyed. No longer seen as children, but as tools of war. Mark, if what was coming from that boys mouth wasnt so horrifyingly serious, he could almost seem like any other child dressing up as their favorite hero. What was he like to talk to . Reporter as i walked into their house, he did look like a regular little 13yearold. He was wearing a gray hoodie. His hair was ruffled. He had a beaming smile. And then when we sat down to do that interview, he went next door, put on the attire and came up with that extraordinary stuff. Just next door his mother was cooking, completely aware, perhaps even encouraging him to feel and talk as he did. It is quite a terrifying thing to hear a 13yearold saying that. He said in the next few weeks, he will go to raqqa in syria and become a young jihadi soldier. When asked whether he thinks that britain, for example, should be attacked, he said yes, but we should kill only those who deserve it. If Islamic State tells me to attack turkey and gives me a holy order, i will do it. It is very, very terrifying indeed. But as i left the house, i said to the mother who wants to be known as fatima, i said when your son was even younger than 13, what did he want to become . She smiled and simply said to me, a pilot. How things change. Whats turkey able to do about this phenomenon of child recruitment . Reporter well, not a huge amount. Turkey has welcomed in 1. 6 million syrians. Many of them are living here very peacefully. Some in refugee camps. A huge number in istanbul. But there are tensions in the community. I was in the syrian neighborhood of istanbul. I saw a lot of tension, local turks feeling like the area has been taken over by syrians. But in some pockets of the country, there are more militant syrians who are building these jihadist dreams. Turkey has been accused of fostering the militant groups in syria by taking an anybody but assad policy by not controlling its borders properly in syria. It has now apparently woken up the threat in the last few months. It is controlling that border more tightly. It is trying to stop the flow of foreign fighters and of jihad write ys across the border. But when you are schooled in war like these children, it is pretty difficult to stop those ideas of the future turning to something very dark indeed. Mark, thank you very much. Mark lowen in istanbul. Lets take you through some more stories from around the world. The nigerian Authorities Say more than 2,000 prisoners have escaped over the past five years. Still to come, the dangers of being openly gay in iran. We talked to two people forced to make lifechanging decisions to survive. Reporter this man is 21 years old. Hes from iran, but has fled here to turkey because hes gay. He says he was forced to leave when his parents gave him an ultimatum. Translator they wanted to pressure me into having sex change surgery or id be taken away by them and killed. Reporter so if you stayed in iran, you would have done the surgery . Translator i am 100 sure i would have done it because of family pressure. Reporter for him, living an openly gay lifestyle in iran would have been impossible. Anyone caught having lesbian or gay sex there faces the death penalty. But the law does allow sex change surgery for transgender people. Campaigners claim the operation is offered as an alternative or a solution for those who are gay or lesbian. The results of the research are quite shocking. 45 of those people who had the surgery were not transgender, were homosexual. Reporter faced with such an intolerable choice, hundreds of gay and lesbian people have left the country. Some people say, i was forced to leave iran because i had no other option. Theyre forced to change their sex because its the only way that they can survive. Reporter marie is a 37yearold iranian transsexual now living in turkey. She changed her gender from male to female 12 years ago. Did you feel in any way that you can live a life as a gay man in iran . Translator no. After i went to see the psychotherapist, i thought i needed to change my gender. Before that, i thought i was gay. Reporter marie is among those reassessing what happened when she lived there. Translator i think right now, if i were in a free society, would i have been like i am now and would i have changed my gender . Im not sure. Reporter gay and lesbian people in iran are in a unique predicament. It is clear from those i spoke to in turkey that there is a great deal of pressure on them. If you want to hear more about that story, there is a longer program on our world, thats here on bbc world news this weekend. Stay with us here on gmt on bbc world news. Still to come, well be asking why saudi arabia so far has decided not to restrict oil production. Thats despite a sharp drop in oil prices. Get intoo many people all too bouncy its probably too far away but with the note 4, you can always get the shot. Check it out eight times digital zoom catches every detail. Woah with optical image stabilization, you get it even in the bounciest castles. Woah isnt that amazing . And a frontfacing camera so wide, you can selfie with like everyone. Do you think you could send that to me . You gotta give me your number though. Ok. Ok haha, oooooh the new Samsung Galaxy note4, with the best camera weve ever put on a smartphone. The next big thing is here. Now, the price of oil has been plunging. Earlier this week, saudi arabia was forced to cut the amount it charges its biggest customer, the United States. Prices are at their lowest in four years because of a drop in global demand. Lets have a look at whats causing it. With me is a Business Reporter from bbc persian. Lets talk about why saudi arabia we might have reexpected it to restrict production. It hasnt. Why not . It seems for saudi arabia right now, maintaining its market share is more important than adjusting the price. So it has pumped around ten Million Barrels a day, export most of it. Thats a major share of the market. And with that comes a certain degree of influence. Theyre not happy to relinquish. They replaced iraq and iran, which lost their market share because of war in iraq and sanctions in iraq, and saudis are happy right now to keep that market share at any cost. What is this doing for a country like iran . Countries like iran, venezuela or russia, the government revenues depend quite a lot on oil exports, and iran is more than half of government revenues come from oil. Every year in their budget, their pencil in a price for oil based on which they make all their calculations of how much they predict they will earn and how much they shall spend. This fiscal year for iran, for example, that price is 100 per barrel. Now, every dollar below 100 means at the end of the year, they will be facing a major budget deficit. So these countries are literally seeing their budget go up and down with that price of oil daily. Absolutely. Absolutely. Anything they sell more than 100 will go to a Severance Fund which they can invest, but when it comes down lower than say for this year for iran, lower than 100 a barrel, that means they will end up having trouble meeting their targets. Lots of speculation, as there always is, about the reasons behind countries acting or not acting as they are. And the saudi arabia not restricting its oil production. Theres theories that this is encouraged by the u. S. , this would put pressure perhaps on iran and russia more than it would on saudi. All sorts of theories abounding. Thats right. As a business correspondent, i came to more focus on Business Basics and on the market. What i see, if the saudis cut and others dont, then they will replace saudi arabia and the prices will not come down anyway. But of course, theres wild speculation in the market that the saudis are doing this to put pressure in line with americans, to put pressure on russia and iran. To get this pressure coupled with sanctions will put a lot of burden on the finances of those two countries, and will probably in the case of iran lead them towards agreeing to a nuclear deal, or in case of russia resolving their issues over ukraine. So oil barrels mean politics as ever in so many ways. One other question about the fracking, the production of oil in the u. S. Domestically. How viable this is, when the Oil Price Goes down, and how actually if the Oil Price Goes down, it isnt such a good thing to do for the u. S. And saudi benefits in that way. Thats right. Part of the reason why weve seen these prices right now, although there are crises in iraq or libya or iran is out of market because of sanctions is because of shares of oil, because of tight or Unconventional Oil in the u. S. There is a threshold of price, say around 65, 70, depending on the type of shale in the u. S. If the price falls below that, it will not be economical to produce shale oil, and supply will come down and the price will balance. But theres not one single view of that. The opec members believe that will happen. Opec secretarygeneral last week told us in an Oil Conference that at current prices, 50 of shared oil will be wiped off the market. Thats not the view shared by most of the oil giants. Thank you very much. If you want to know how this is affecting the price of petrol in your country, you can visit our website. We have a fuel price calculator. It will tell us how much more or less you pay for a tank of fuel than the world average. That is bbc. Com news. This weekend in beijing could see the first high level meeting between chinese and japanese leaders in more than two years. The big chill between the two asian giants began when japan brought a group of tiny uninhabited islands in the east china sea. The trade and tourism between the two is not only back to 2012 levels, theyve surpassed them. From tokyo, rupert winfieldhayes reports. Reporter forget about beijings summit. This is the real front line. These tokyo shop assistants are practicing to be polite in chinese. Outside, the buses are arriving, one after another after another. Each loaded with Chinese Tourists. Two years ago, this place was empty and struggling. The chinese were staying home. Now they are back in force. And if theres one thing the chinese still love, it is that made in japan label. Im going to buy a rice cooker, this man tells me. I think the quality of things made here in japan is higher than those made back at home. This woman is from southwest china and shes also buying a rice cooker. Things made here are more reliable than in china, she says. We have them, but theyre more reliable here. Half of everything sold in this shop is bought by chinese customers. The people i spoke to said theyll spend around 3,000. They sell more high end watches in this store than any other in japan. Translator japans population is shrinking. The domestic market is shrinking. Thats why we decided to concentrate on the foreign tourist market. Now we are even selling food and cosmetics. Thats why our fare sales are up. Reporter at this temple in tokyo, Chinese Tourists must feel right at home. The architecture, the colors, the writing. All of it has come to japan from china. Right now, relations between china and japan are at their worst in perhaps 40 years. But these two countries not only share so much history, they have so much to be gained, if they can overcome their political differences. But that will not be easy. While Chinese Tourists flock to japan in record numbers, 87 of chinese now say they have a negative view of japan. The number of japanese with a negative view of china is even higher. One meeting in beijing is not going to change that. Rupert winfieldhayes, bbc news in tokyo. The drummer from the australian heavy metal band ac dc phil rudd has been charged in new zealand with plotting to try to have two men killed. The 60yearold is also accused of threatening to kill and possessing drugs. John donisan reports. Reporter one of australias best known rock star. Phil rudd appeared in court just briefly in new zealand. Hes accused of plotting to have two men killed. The judge ordered the names of the alleged victims be suppressed as well as that of the alleged hit man. It followed a raid of the ac dc drummers house on thursday morning. He was also charged with drug possession and threatening to kill. Phil rudds career with ac dc began more than 40 years ago. The band has sold m now, unlike several other vaccines where theres a weakened virus, in in case, the ebola virus, theyve taken part of it and put it in a less lethal virus that is different to carry it into the body of the participant, and that is what they hope will pack some spark some immunity. The vaccine is now the right temperature. And its ready to be administered. Its been brought to the vaccination room. Most of the people who are participating in this study are people on the front lines of the ebola response, and so the whole idea is to see what dosage would work in an ideal situation. The things they hope to achieve in this trial is, one, to find out if it is a safe vaccine, if it is going to have Adverse Reactions in the people who are participating. And two, if it actually generates immunity against the deadly virus. That is anne soy reporting from mali. The countries closest to those affected by ebola have so far managed to contain the disease. The w. H. O. Says there are currently no cases in mali, but is trying to find 39 people who may have come into contact with a 2yearold girl who died after arriving from guinea. And senegal was declared ebolafree last month. They had one case earlier in the year when a man arrived from guinea carrying the virus. Lets talk about the outbreak and the way its affected the way people think of west africa. Do people still want to visit the region . Thank you very much for coming in. Tell me how badly senegal has had its Tourist Agency affected by the nearness of the ebola virus . Thank you for giving me the opportunity to talk about senegals experience and share it with people. Indeed, it did have a bad impact on tourism. But what we did, when we got the imported case, so that student who came in from guinea and to senegal, it kind of raised awarene awareness. When he was put in quarantine, and we had contact tracing, found out that 67 people had been in contact with him, there was awareness. People who were sensitized about the importance of having hygiene, of prevention, etc. Thank god we have a very good medical plateau. Authorities who really stand up together. Our minister in charge of health is an International Specialist of these kind of diseases. So she knew what to do. And the whole population came together. Artists, through campaign, through social networks, etc. Anyway, we managed to really cure that student and send him back to guinea. And now the positive impact is that people are more and more aware of the disease. We have had some prevention procedures which are still on, because one never knows. But anyway, in senegal, senegal is ebolafree. And you were declared ebolafree a few weeks ago. Yes. And there is no panicking in the country. Thats what is interesting. And senegal is going towards the 2015 summit between the 29th and 30th of november, which shows that there is nothing to be scared of and we are expecting a lot of delegation, 105 president s, 600 journalists, 300 participants, etc. Okay. So for you, you say business as usual. Theres been a map created apparently for the geographically challenged by a certain Anthony England who is a british chemist. He shows the official ebola situation, the fact that it is restrained, or restricted to those three countries there, and the rest of africa is officially ebolafree. But people may perhaps look at a map of west africa and say seine gl shares a border with guinea. They might say its just safer not to go to senegal. How can you reassure them . Im here with you, you know . Looking healthy. I think it made senegal stronger in prevention. Theres business as usual. People are there. Just briefly if you will. How important is tourism to senegals economy . It is the second currency earner in senegal. Its going to be used approximately to 3. 6 to the gdp. It is so important that the authorities have decided to start up this new agency because it is a new one, and to multiply by six is legiting because we know that its important. It employs 75,000 people. And senegal is positioning itself as regional hub. We are going to have a next generation airport able to host the 380, which is going to be operation in 2015. We have to leave it there. Thank you very much. Thank you very much, from the senegal tourism information agency. Thank you. Lets talk about business with aaron. And oil, aaron. A big day. Oil prices, big day. I have to say i think this is the first time weve had a handbag on the desk. I love it. Absolutely love it. Hello. Okay, yes. Lets start and continue talking about the price of oil, which has been doing one thing. Its been plunging. A drop in global demand, and the revolution in shale oil production, otherwise known as fracking. Particularly in the United States. Sent crude prices to their lowest in four years. Add to that saudi arabias move earlier to cut the price it charges its biggest customer, the u. S. , for saudi oil. In the last few hours, the price of crude was around 82. 50 a barrel. That there is down some 27 since its peak in the summer, since june. There was a slight rise in the price of u. S. Crude yesterday, but it is clear that the trend for now is downward. Michelle fleury reports from the u. S. State of oklahoma on the seismic changes taking place in that oil industry. Reporter oklahomas oil industry is resurging thanks to huge deposits of shale oil. This technique was in its infancy when i started 30 years ago. Reporter with Fracking Technology getting better, the cost for drillers is lowering. They hope this site will one day produce 600 barrels of oil a day. America is in the grip of a shale revolution. A boom thats turning the u. S. Into an Energy Powerhouse that could threaten dominance of Traditional Oil producers in the middle east. And that boom is being driven by foreign production in places like this. But with prices tumbling, could this oil rush be about to end . It still costs more to extract the black stuff trapped inside this rock. Here, theyre not worried yet. Our margins are really strong here. So we continue our Development Program at the current pace, even at prices much lower than 80 a barrel. Reporter the nearby city of ardmore has witnessed its fair share of oil booms and busts. This street has seen a lot of history, a lot of changes. Reporter phils family moved here in the 1800s and have been involved in the oil industry ever since. Hes less certain that Lower Oil Prices wont discourage new drilling. Well, its going to impact a lot of the big horizontal drilling thats very expensive to do. Were still trying to find out just what is the break even point there, where you can still put that kind of money in drilling and still have a good profit margin. Reporter at the local restaurants theyre watchful, too. Its not just the drilling of new wells that may dry up. It would definitely hurt our bottom line if the oil kept falling and falling and falling and falling and falling. If it wasnt feasible for them to drill anymore. Reporter are you worried about that happening . Do you see any sign of that at this point . No, and ive been looking for it. Reporter the current fall in oil prices hasnt yet put the brakes on americas shale industry. But the lesson from this town is that booms are shortlived. Now comes the test of u. S. Oils longterm resilience. Michelle fleury, bbc news, ardmore, oklahoma. Lets just stay with it, because what impact do these Lower Oil Prices have on middle eastern Oil Producers . Weve already heard the impact from iran. But these countries that are heavily reliant on oil. The last few years, there has been a big push to diversify those middle eastern economies away from oil. The question is, have they done enough . Reporter people in oman would be amongst the worst affected in the middle east if Oil Prices Stay low. Waves of protest led to the creation of many more government jobs, and the Public Sector wage bill now consumes almost 50 from every barrel of oil it pumps. Analysts describe it as an oil society rather than an oil economy. Its a fragile one with high Oil Extraction costs and an overreliance on foreign labor. Years of High Oil Prices coupled with the fear of uprisings and the occasional oil protests in countries like here in oman in 2011 over job fears has led to a culture of spending. Public sector jobs and projects have experienced a major boost. But as one analyst put it to me, it would be nothing short of a crisis, if the oil revenues that prop up those economies were to remain low. The imf has issued a spending warning to the region. It calculates that if oil settled at 75 a barrel, fiscal surpluses, the gap between what the governments get in compared to what they spend, could drop from close to 300 billion to 100 billion across the gulf. In oman, ministers already signaled that large Energy Subsidies could be cut next year. There are reports the prices will continue to fall. And there are analysts who say the prices will actually go up to 100. So you dont know what you want to believe, to be honest now. However, we are taking a very cautious approach. Reporter the level of concern differs across the gulf. Its a tale of two regions. The real large Oil Producers and gas producers, theyve made allowances for these drugs. Theyve got enough in the bank, theyve got enough in foreign reserves to weather this storm. Some of the lesser Oil Producers, or some of the countries where they rely on their neighbors, like you could look at the buyer bahrain, they have all struggled. Reporter sustained cheap oil could be good news for weaker arab kmeconomies like egypt and tunisia. One thing is clear. Many middleeastern economies are still deictated to by oil. Lets touch on some other stories making headlines all around the world. The russian currency the ruble has fallen to a new record low. 45 rubles to the dollar. It is after the Russian Central Bank announced on wednesday that it would limit intervention to prop it up. The fall is also a result of International Sanctions over actions in ukraine. And going back to oil, the falling price of russias oil exports. Users of apple products in china are warned of a threat from Malicious Software called wirelurker. Were going to stay with that story. If you own an apple product, should you be worried about the latest malware or Malicious Software . Possibly yes, especially if youre in china. Its called wirelurker. Its apparently affecting apples desk top and mobile operating systems. With me to discuss is rupert goodwin. First of all, what does it do . It attempts to steal information from your iphone. Mostly its trying to steal information. Now, this has been seen in china. Is that as far as its spread so far . Yes, to get it, you have to do quite a number of strange thing. You have to download Illegal Software from a Chinese Software website, put it on your mcintosh computer, then plug your iphone into the mcintosh, and then accept the questions they ask you. So if youre just using your iphone wandering around the place, as normal, stuff over wifi and telephones, it will be fine. And to what extent has it spread already . Maybe 300,000 downloads of the infected software from the chinese site. Right. And would you know if this thing has got into your system . Well, you would, because your iphone will be asking you to do strange things, like say yes to keys youve never seen. You can also download scanning software to check for its presence on your computer. The question is other software then takes the techniques and put it on there. So just this software. The traditional thinking is that apple systems werent prone to these sorts of things as much as say your pc was. Whats changed . Theyre still not as prone to windows or android, but they are prone to some of these attacks. We even think the nsas used it to get data. So apple has been very good at fixing stuff in the past. The fact is all these things have problems. The question is how quickly they get fixed and how deep the implications are. So you went through some complicated steps of what you need to do to get this. But is there a need if you have an apple operating system to download extra security to prevent these things, or does that come within the whole software thats offered when you buy a device . Apple computers are basically very safe and so are iphones. You shouldnt need to buy extra software. Quite a lot of the extra software is buggy. Really . They can use the computer softwares capabilities to probe your system even deeper. Thats not common. But every time you make your computer more complicated, you make it more prone to attack. Rupert, thank you very much. Rupert goodwins. If youre blind, a trip to work can feel like an almost impossible obstacle course. The original idea for this project came from a microsoft engineer who is himself blind. He has big ambitions for it. I cant see a reason why this shouldnt become standard in peoples lives. Technology thats required here and available now. Reporter nearly 200,000 visually impaired people in britain hardly ever leave home because they lack confidence.
