President Petro Poroshenko of ukraine is set to begin talks to form a coalition after exit talks in parliamentary elections. And from the classroom to the battlefield. We meet the child soldiers of south sudans bloody civil war. Hello, and welcome. Tributes have been paid to the captain of the South AfricanFootball Team senzo meyiwa who was shot dead during a burglary. Police say he was staying at his girlfriends house near johannesburg when two armed men break in demanding mobile phones, money, and other valuables. He was shot in the chest, and tributes have been paid on social media in south africa and condemnation as well of the level of gun crime there. One of meyiwas teammates tweeted, how do you kill someone for a cell phone . Could they not take a phone . Wow. Gone too soon. The backup goalkeeper for the National Team asked, when does it stop, south africa . When do we stop just moving on . Take control of our country for all our people. And another player Michael Morton tweeted, he will be missed by everyone who ever came into contact with him. R. I. P. Senzo. And in the last hour, the National Team coach has spoken at a news conference. This is some of what he had to say. As we were deliberating, preparing for the Upcoming Games in sudan. Guess what. Senzos name was on the top of the list. The playing 11 as well as the captain. You know all the time, people want to know whos going to be the captain. As were jotting names down, his name always came first. The National Coach there. Our correspondent in johannesburg i spoke to a little earlier and i asked him if this was a random shooting. Well, at this stage, there is no suggestion that they knew who he was. This, according to the police, sounds like a random crime scene. There is no information to suggest that they knew who kelly was, a very public figure in the music industry, and whether they knew they were shooting a national hero, the captain of the National Football squad, or the captain of orlando pirates, the oldest Football Team in south africa. They have huge following, not just here in south africa, but across the continent. Theyve even won the continental cup. So they are wellknown. To be captain of that team takes quite a lot. In south korea, prosecutors have demanded the Death Penalty for the captain of the sewol ferry that sank in april. The captain and 14 other crew members are accused of abandoning the vessel that went down. More than 300 people died in that disaster, most of them school children. Steve evans sends us this update on the trial from outside the court. Reporter there was an awful lot of emotion in the Public Gallery amongst the bereaved families as the prosecutor said that there should be a guilty verdict for that charge of causing homicide by virtue of willful negligence. And for the captain that should involve the Death Penalty. In this country, nobodys been executed for a crime in two decades. So the widespread expectation is that even if the judges came back and agreed with the prosecutor, that that would then get turned over on appeal. But more likely that they wont come back and say the Death Penalty, that it will be life imprisonment, and that will mean at his age that he will more than likely die in prison. He certainly expects to die in prison. He said that in his evidence, the evidence that the captains put is that he performed badly. He certainly didnt do his duty. But that doesnt amount to murder. Hes very keen that that ultimate charge doesnt stick to him or to his family. He admitted that perhaps he should be executed for what he did and didnt do on that day, but he doesnt want that taint of murder. So an awful lot of emotion and a very, very big decision now for the panel of judges. Steve evans reporting there. Exit polls show ukrainian president Potro Poroshenko is on course to secure a sweeping victory for prowestern parties in sundays parliamentary election. Hes now expected to begin talks to form a coalition. Russias foreign minister is reported as saying the election is the chance to implement peace agreements. Reporter confidence strides as president Petro Poroshenkos block looks set to win the greatest share in ukraines elections. These were the first parliamentary elections in ukraine since the february revolution, and it looks as if prowestern parties will dominate the new parliament. The results of the election bring the firm victory of all democratic proeuropean, proukrainian forces. And that gives us a lot of opportunity to provide the reform, to present the program of strategy 2020. Reporter counting is under way. Exit polls have suggested president poroshenkos party could be on top with about 23 , followed closely by the peoples front, and now they are speaking of forming a coalition of prowestern parties. Translator i just had a meeting with the president of ukraine, and we will in the shortest possible timeframe form the coalition so that the new government and the new parliament can carry out the reforms necessary for the country swiftly and efficiently. Reporter more than 51 of voters cast their ballot. However, not everyone participated in these elections. About three Million People in eastern regions donetsk and luhansk did not vote. Prorussian separatists in this area plan to hold their own polls next month. Another almost two Million People in crimea, which was annexed by russia in march, also did not take part, which means 27 seats from these areas will remain vacant. Meanwhile, conflict is far from over in the rebelheld eastern part of ukraine. More than 3,500 people have been killed since the conflict began, including 300 who were killed after a ceasefire was agreed in september. All eyes are now on these Election Results to see what the outcome can yield for this wartorn country. We are joined now live from kiev. Are we looking at stability for that part of ukraine . I think what were looking at is the coalition will be very, very easy to form. There are lots of likeminded people elected during the elections. People who want to move closer to europe. People who declare that fighting corruption is one of the key things for them. People who basically support what mr. Poroshenko has been saying about the peace plan, about peaceful settlement in the east of the country. That will be easy. But it also puts a lot of responsibility of this coalition, because now theres no excuse. Previously there was the excuse that the parliament was working against mr. Poroshenko because there were supporters of the old regime of the deposed president yanukovych. Now those excuses will be all gone. So the country will need to deliver, the leadership will need to be deliver under extremely difficult circumstances. Economically, militarily, and politically. You mentioned former president yanukovych. His party did relatively well, given the mood in ukraine. Indeed, and i think this is not exactly his party. They renamed themselves not to be tarnished by the old name. They were running as opposition block. And they did fairly well. Which shows to you that actually a, there are still ways in ukraine for democratic expression of the will of the people who do not necessarily support the authorities in kiev. But also the fact that the things that those parties represented still have quite a good foothold in eastern parties of ukraine. Only parts of the region didnt vote, the ones under control of the prorussian rebels. The others did. And i think they voted for who they think is the is somebody representing their views. One big loser that i think is important is the communist party of ukraine. That this time, for the first time in 20 years of postsoviet independence of ukraine will not be represented in parliament. Just a final thought. The Economic Hardship that ukraine is going to have to go through now. Are people prepared for those sort of measures, which is going to make life very, very uncomfortable, isnt it . Well, ukrainians are very stoic a lot, and this is not the first time that they will have to endure very low heating in their flats. There have been gas wars before. 2008, 2006. Now theres no gas coming from russia at all. So this is part of the problem. But the other part of the problem is certainly a large part of the industry east of the country have been devastated. I think it will be very, very difficult to convince the people that the suffering they endure now is for nothing. Therefore the responsibility of the authorities to deliver on their promises i think will be absolutely unprecedented. I think this parliamentary election is perhaps most important of all the elections held previously in 20odd years of ukrainian independence. Okay, thank you very much indeed. The civil war in south sudan has meant many children, instead of going to school, are being forced to fight. The u. N. Estimates that there are 11,000 child soldiers in both the rebel and government armies. Tom barage has travelled to the Northern Area where boys as young as 8 are being recruited. Reporter no pupils at this school, just the guns of the body guards of a senior politician who came here to show us around. Government soldiers fighting in south sudans civil war now sleep here. They are the only ones who study. But months ago, it was rebel forces who came here and took more than 100 boys from their classrooms. We met one of those boys, who well call steven, age 16, and his four friends. All of them forced into an army as young recruits. When the soldiers came to his school, 15yearold david asked why children had to fight. To defend your tribe, the soldiers replied. Most of the children i saw were soldiers, says david. Paul says he and more than 200 other children were taken to a training camp, sometimes beaten, and given no food for two days. The boys escaped, but theyre now trapped here in a camp with nearly 50,000 others. Weary of war, their homes have been badly flooded. This camp and the terrible conditions here is the product of months of violence. But there were decades of conflict here before south sudan gained its independence three years ago. And there is a continuing culture in which boys are often seen as men and are forced to fight. Most boys, sometimes as young as 8, are fighting with the rebels. But south sudans army acknowledges that it has recruited some children. We are aware of 149 child soldiers that has been unified. Reporter the u. N. Suggests its a figure much higher. Human rights watch says women and girls captured by the Islamist Group boko haram are forced to marry, convert to islam, and endure severe abuse in captivity. The groups new report is based on interviews with witnesses and victims of boko haram abductions including some girls who managed to escape when they were seized in april. A human rights researcher interviewed many people who had been taken by the militants for the groups report. Ive spoken to about 30 women, young women and girls abducted by boko haram. Some were taken right from their homes in the presence of their parents. Some were picked up on their way to school. Some picked up in the farm. And the journey for them into boko harams camp i think would be one of the worst experiences. Just all the thoughts running through their heads about what would happen to them in the camp. One 15yearold told me how she was made to carry all the stolen goods that insurgents were pilfering from the villages that they looted along the way until they got two more girls to join her and carry the stuff. When they get to the camp, they begin to carry out chores on behalf of the group, clening, cooking. But is that the worst that happens to them . Aning, cooking. But is that the worst that happens to them . No. There are reports that these girls are raped as well. Absolutely. The rape would happen sometimes after theyre forced to marry members of the group. One girl, if before her marriage she was forced to go with the group on operations, she was made to carry their ammunition, hide in the bushes while shooting was going on around them. At one point, she was given a gun to shoot someone that she had helped to lure into their camp. So many of them also were forced to convert from christianity to islam. Traumatic experiences, the rape. Unfortunately, there was no one to take their testimonies about what happened to them while in captivity. So a continuing trauma of reliving the experiences. And hungary amends its plan to tax the internet after thousands took to the streets in protests. Hello, everybody. Welcome to the program. A fascinating and exciting snapshot of all the late nest the world of business and money the world of business and money. Attacking the worlds vineyards, the diseases, and wait until you hear them. First lets start with shares in italian blanks. They have plunged after nine of the lenders failed stress tests by the regulators. Trading was suspended after their Stock Plunged 15 and 17 respectively. In total, the European Banking Authority found that 14 eurozone banks need to raise their capital to avoid actually being shut down. Economics correspondent Andrew Walker has all the details. Reporter it was bad, but expected news for some european banks, especially in italy. Banker monte dei paske has the biggest financial hole. The banks have two weeks to explain how they plan to fill the gap. The number would have been larger, but some have already raised more cash from investors. The European Central bank welcomed the fact that the great majority of banks had passed. This indeed is not only proof of the resilience of most of the banks, but also it implies that the ones that had weaker results will be now repaired in a timely fashion. And that puts the Banking Sector of the countries, basically now the whole area, in a more comfortable position to support the recovery. Reporter previous european stress tests have been severely criticized for being too easy to pass and for failing to spot banks that needed help soon afterwards. But this time, many observers say they are more credible. These tests have been looking at the strength of the european banks. And theyve been based upon a really detailed look at individual loans across the Banking Sector. Over 120,000. And this is a vast improvement from the previous exercise, which didnt do the detailed look. This is merely a first step in terms of the path to recovery of the european Banking Sector. What they do is to tell us about the strength of the banks balance sheets. Far more robust exercise than the past. But the Banking Sector still remains chronically unprofitable. The eurozones struggling economy could certainly do with a more robust banking str ining to provide more credit to businesses wanting to expand. But troubled banks are just one element in an array of Problems Holding back a badly needed recovery. Lets stay in europe, though, because hungarys government has amended a plan to tax the internet after violent protests over the weekend. Tens of thousands of hungarian took to the streets to fight plans to impose a 50 cent per gigabyte levy on Internet Service providers. The centralized government says it will limit the tax, but protesters arent convinced. Nick thorpe sent us this report. Reporter a new kind of tax draws a new kind of protest. At least 10,000 people braved the autumn cold to take part in this demonstration, from the 200,000 who joined a Facebook Page opposing the internet tax. The government hopes to raise 80 billion a year by taxing each gigabyte of data transferred. Critics called it an attack on Free Expression and a break on the development of fast Internet Services the country badly needs. This is a very stupid tax against the modern world. It hurts the economy. It will cost us jobs. It can make call centers go abroad. It restricts the scientific research. It makes problems for the universities. The people here are more angry about the whole idea of this tax than any sum they may have to pay, but theyre up against the government, which has made special taxes a cornerstone of its economic policies. This is just the latest. The government is proud of its efforts to keep personal income tax down. It fills the gap with indirect taxes like this one. Most definitely, its not goal of the government in any way to punish any sectors of the economy. As we have announced many times and we stick to it, we are trying to distribute evenly the tax burden on all parts, all sectors of the economy. 73 of hungarys ten million population use the internet, close to the average figure for the whole european union. The government has got into trouble for its controversial policies before, but always managed to push them through. But it has now picked a fight with the best organized community in the country. Nick thorpe, bbc news, budapest. Interesting story. What about this . What about that glass of wine at the end of at the end of the day . What do you mean at the end of the day . It could cost you a little bit more. Hundreds of thousands of vines have been killed by three fungal diseases. Esca, black dead arm, a new type of die back, have cut Wine Production in france by apparently around 13 . One in eight vines have been lost. This is a horrible story. Robert joseph is a wine consultant. Lets find out more about this. Seriously, black dead arm . Black measles is another name. Theres another one called black goo. These are great things for diseases in the trunks of the vines. Let me ask you this. Robert, great to have you on the program. But head of frances chambers of agriculture says this is so severe, it should be declared an international emergency. Really . There are a few other things going on in the world at the moment, so im not sure where we place it. Its bad. That one in eight figure, 13 , they dont know. Theyre guessing. Nobodys walked around and counted. It can affect one vine here, one vine there, half a field, and it is big. And it is global. And weve had it since the dawn of time. We just seem to be having a lot more of it right now and were not sure why. One reason was we used to have a really cool way of getting it which was arsenic. And then we thought that giving vineyard workers cancer through arsenic wasnt very good, so we stopped using the arsenic and started getting more of this disease. But it may also be the way were growing the vines. All sorts of modern winemaking techniques may be having some effect as well. May be cause asking it. So we dont know. Is it being fed down the pipeline to the consumer . Not yet. In fact, this year france made a bit more wine than last year. But whats beautiful is whats been tried, so weve got people playing music to vines. Weve got people trying to find funguses to kill the funguses. Theres a lot of stuff going on. I think we probably will be able to beat it in one way or another. But well see. Let me ask you this, though. You and i were talking, but i found it interesting. You talk about the trunk, and it could be like can we see a picture of the vine . It can be one row, but not the other. One vine. One vine. Basically, it comes in for a wound when youre pruning the vines, you can actually wound it and it gets in through there. Nowadays we use electric clippers rather than manual ones. Maybe theres something there. The way in which ironically we actually take all our vines and american root stock are made of the grafting. Theres a lot of questions. Nobody knows. Okay. Theres a big trunk disease conference in adalaide next month. May solve it for the world. Who knows . Thank you, robert, we appreciate your time. Follow me on twitter bbcaaron.
