In Finland the noise in the background you can hear just confirming that 2 people have died in that attack in talk who in Finland in the last couple of hours the police just and use conference just going on some people making a statement confirming that people are injured 2 people dead no reports of any arrests at the moment we'll keep you updated on what's been going on in Finland the stuff the name because this is because a fast moving story in the news room right now and sing pitches of chanting after a minute's silence in Barcelona the words of in Castle and I am not afraid and also in the last hour we've seen reports from Washington suggesting that a decision from President Donald Trump's chief of staff John Kelly is imminent and whether the White House chief strategist Steve Bannon we've heard a lot about him other way whether or not he's going to keep his job this comes from the online news outlet x. Ers will be following that of course just sconce 7 minutes past 5 o'clock here in London so the boss lets Bosler attacks or 3 fatal incidents occur over 24 hour period and 190 mile stretch of ne Spain Stevenson our team explains how vents unfolded. On Wednesday evening an explosion test for health and a small town 200 kilometers south of Boston one person dies and 16 injured according to local police the people in the house were preparing an explosive device which they may have pants years later in the attack on last. On Thursday at 650 local time a white 5th fan drives into crowds on last in central Barcelona killing 14 people and injuring dozens the driver flees on. At $830.00 police find a 2nd van thought to be a getaway vehicle 80 kilometers north of Boston and feet. An hour later a car plows into place of signature point on the outskirts of Boston with a dead man inside an investigation is ongoing in the early hours of Friday a 2nd vehicle is driven into a crowd of people in the popular seaside resort of Cumbria around 110 kilometers south of Boston a woman later died of head injuries police shoot dead 5 suspects said to be linked to the last Rambus attack a massive manhunt is underway for the man who drove the violent people in Barcelona Spain is in mourning a minute's silence was held followed by chance of I'm not afraid. So we've walked across the news room in the last couple of minutes past the bank of news channel desks and the world online desk to where the live page of the attacks on Barcelona is being written Gareth Evans is a live page writer Gareth What's the latest on the manhunt but at the moment we're just keeping an eye out for any more identifications the manhunt is still ongoing we're yet to see any updates in terms of that but we've just received news that 8 French people were among the seriously injured in the attack including 4 children and which keep an eye on the manhunt really checking the wires Reuters Associated Press and just when you put it on that front really really busy time for so many governments the moment because of loss from us being such an international destination such a popular tourist destination so many people trying to confirm the status of the Nationals at the moment do we have any more information about any of the victims but we know that there are 34 different nationalities involved in the attack which is a lot as you say that part of Barcelona is a tourist hot spot so naturally there are people from all over the world there as I as I as I just emphasize there are 8 Frenchmen seriously injured that's just been updated this minute but yet the people from all of the world from Hungary even as a 3 are friends of the Spain but you know many many different nationalities and that's part of it is. Keeping on top of the various media outlets media channels from different countries and seeing one that foreign ministers day also on any of the of the numbers Garth if anyone's You are the man responsible for updating the live page you see on the b.b.c. Site what type of. Tributes are thing coming in throughout the day because we've been seeing chanting Haven't we learned and in different parts of Spain what have you been saying well there's been all sorts of Steve had people like the queen We've had Obama they've been sending that I can tell it's the victims but on the ground in Barcelona we've had people chanting we're not afraid very very defiant and you know across Europe not just in Boston or kitty but later as well they've been setting up tributes that they really you know we've seen a kind of outpouring of support for the victims and outpouring of condolence of people involved not just in Barcelona but in Berlin and in cities across across Europe as well Gareth Evans the last page write to him on the baby see Home Page thanks very much. So I still root we've been following all week now the mudslides in Freetown in Sierra Leone the International Red Cross says the number of people killed has passed 400 I spoke to our Mari for phone to the b.b.c. Reporter in free tell and he gave me the latest on those who are still missing no one knows exactly how many people are still missing most of the 461 people who have not been buried were actually victims of the flash floods there was a connection between the flash floods and the mudslides and that it's forced some borders to cave in which road and the size of the water and how it goes down and out and communities give us a lot of confidence if it goes but the mudslide itself simply just cover it submerged does in some sense calls all homes and people still lying beneath that. But the numbers vary some say it's about 600 and some even say up so possibly 1000 people with a lie and don't want to slide so we don't know exactly how many people have not been accounted for but in addition to those believed to be lying dead beneath shouldn't of months and buckets of corpses also have been picked up from other parts of town such a bleak situation at the moment and with the floods and the people who did civil life is there a race against time to stop the spread of disease when I went to an area today which was which was really badly hit by the flash floods I was told by the community people that there were cops is in a particular building which is partly damaged and I went close to the building and I could tell that there were cops as because there was this very acrid stench coming out apparently all 4 of corpses lots of decomposed basically so that is a concern even to the people in the community because it was like it's going down you know entering some some homes us as it passes by the concern is that there could be outbreak of a cholera or diary of some sort or even something even mostly via the United Nations as expressed concern so has the government at least the minister of have the deputy minutes off had told me that as well but the deputy minister was confident that they would be able to put it under control she said that they had put plans in place a muscle of those plans are but the concern still keeps spreading around copses are still lying in various places that could pose a serious health hazard as far as getting it under control where all we with aid at the moment isn't getting through are so that the u.k. Promised $5000000.00 in fresh aid we seeing that on the ground yet nothing that's on the ground one would imagine or the need necessitates when I was leaving that area called Pentagon in the west of its own I saw some N.G.O.s I saw Worldvision going with the plastic buckets under the cooking utensils to the community that a lot of people who are displaced that but also the site of the mudslides a lot of. People have complained that they have been sleeping rough in the open and they haven't been given show it's relief supply they say has been coming somewhat but not you know sufficiently enough so yes you don't see the presence of relief on the ground under the people also believe that they don't get what they feel that they need and those needs are really fun. I mean they've lost virtually everything for most of these people they need food they need shelter they need even the basic cooking utensils and they will need need clue think I've heard you talk passionately in the last few days about the difficulty of the situation in Sierra Leone and at the moment how is effected you personally. So far I don't know and so many people here I do not know whether they are really directly affected in the sense of having lost from the mostly been close friends because all these people are lying beneath the earth just yesterday or we're going to Waterloo and I give someone a riot it sounded like she was attending this mass these mass burials and she said that we had lost somebody she and I had from the same village in the east of Sierra Leone and I came to realize that a close friend of mine lost to have his children in this mudslide so we're still counting until we really get to know those who are lying beneath the surface of the earth it's going to be very difficult to get the real understanding of who and who have lost but Plus not necessarily any and when I went into the mortuary and I saw hundreds of copses lying down on the bare floor some of them live in lies I was really badly hit I mean I covered the country's civil war I covered the recent Ebola outbreak some 3 years ago I mean the old really touched me severely but that's. Number of corpses lying down having been killed within an hour or less that shock in me is still there by the sheer numbers of corpses that I saw lying on the b. Awful of the mortuary which had been stretched beyond its limits and the phrases couldn't take anymore I still feel. But he's by all of those images that I've seen Sara Lee and so on the country going through an incredibly difficult time where all we with the rain situation of mudslides at the moment is more rain expected more rain is expected last year the heaviest downfall of rain happened in the month of September on rain August you know the rain skip coming we don't know what the weather forecast holds we don't know what the realities will be on the ground. You're listening to b.b.c. Out west with Rick Kelsey Let's take a look at some of the other stories being worked on in the b.b.c. News room here in the u.k. Investor and surprise for Cyprus died at the age of 18 when he presented some of the B.B.C.'s biggest shows during his 60 a career b.b.c. Director general has described the Bruces one of the greatest entertainers the u.k. Has ever known Finnish police say they're enforcing security across the country with additional patrols and boosted surveillance following stopping attacks in the city of top latest from the police news conference suggest that 8 people have been stabbed and 2 have done is more than 16000000 people have now been affected by flooding across South Asia in Nepal Bangladesh and India some 500 people are being killed with conditions expected to worsen. Thanks for joining us a r n o s it's just been 17 minutes past 5 o'clock here in London let's return to Barcelona the B.B.C.'s bomb and bassy is. Can you describe what you wore at the moment the mood of the city and what you're seeing what you're seeing security wise. I am you're standing on the boulevard. Where these makeshift. Or spontaneous memorials have been growing by the hour or so many more candles and. As well as written notes and flowers people brought Him year too. Honor those who've been killed or injured on this ferry road less than 24 hours ago so just over 24 hours ago and so this has become you know a boulevard that thousands of people every day to see especially tourists and now has become a place to honor those who've been hurt here yesterday and also of course the security situation still very tense there many many clues officers from different security forces of Spain and testimony a presence in every corner with very big guns and just simply alerts about anything that might go especially given the reality that some of those that the government says were part of this more still at war and of course this is very much like you say people at large is very much an active investigation Spanish media and then the man being sought is 18 year old move. East respect and using his brothers don't commence to run the van mowed down people on the famous landmark in Las Ramblas what do we know about any of the victims the. We don't have names yet and we don't have exact nationalities you know that there are from at least 30 different countries and understand understand understandably so because this is where tourists come more than anybody else so from Philippines to France there are people that came here and were injured or killed. Waiting for full names and finding out who exactly from which country and what we do know that children were among them. You know it's kind of Standish you know I was here yesterday minutes after this happened and of course it was completely cornered off and then in turn to pull apart now it's come back to life and I stand here before going back for. But yes the question still didn't. Unanswered it even though there are some unconfirmed reports that he may have been among those who was shot but they're not nobody new police is confirming that but the understanding is officially at least meeting he's still not arrested he's still not still out there somewhere you'll usually based in New York on us the B.B.C.'s Persian correspondent the United Nations but you were in Barcelona as a tourist you run holiday How are you feeling. I was I am. Actually a 3rd time I come back. And summertime because one of the most welcoming cities it's a beautiful place and I've met many friends here and so it is very sad to see it happen here because even when it happened across Europe when you talk to friends here in Barcelona it felt like it will never come here and it will be this is a city that is different in the sense that it tracked that kind of attack note for no particular leavings out of them that it never happened before so it created this false sense of security. For many of the residents and many of the tourists in that that have been violated yearly now feels like not only because it happened but also because it is clearly happened as part of a grand plan to. Harm as many people as possible because from what we know the attack it was planned to be done with bombs and it was accelerated because the bombs went off accidentally at that house Wednesday so that you attackers lost their Me weapon so they resorted to cars and they decided to do it sooner than it then when they wanted to do it the B.B.C.'s Ballman. In Barcelona but normally based in the u.n. In New York you're with us from the b.b.c. World Service this is recounts the Live from the news room in London let's cross live to Finland now for an update on the reports of a stabbing in the city of taught in southwest Finland David MacDougall is a journalist based in has been following the updates in Finnish media and joins us now David we've been following this closely on social media we've seen some videos we've heard the confirmation from the police that the 2 people have died what can you tell us about the people who've been affected by this attack. Well the police just finished a press conference and they were very careful to say that they're not categorizing the attack yet as a terrorist incident but they're also not not calling it terrorism so then they want to be clear of the fact that see the key to this case is the identity of one of the perpetrators who is in police custody was shot by police it happened just after half past 4 this afternoon and in Finland does have 2 u.k. Time at least 2 people had a this all went on a knife stabbing rampage in the center of to a group 2 people killed as you said and 6 others in the hospital the police moved very quickly to apprehend one of those attackers they say that they're still looking for one other person in connection with it and shot him in the leg he was taken to the hospital as a result of what's going on the there has been an increased security alert in other parts of the country at railway stations on the airports as well as city center of Helsinki but police. In the light that will happen in Barcelona yesterday as we were hearing in that last report of course there's a on the spot light turns on incidents such as this and wondering if it is called the gas attack if it is. Inspired by other motives the police very careful not to categorize that as a crime and the terrorist threat in Finland is generally low. That's right there have been you might remember earlier this year in April there were a number of people killed after an attack in Stockholm and in neighboring Sweden but Finland. Has remained a pretty safe sort of part of the world and certainly not for the high risk of international Islamic terrorism here as well as happened in other parts of Europe as well but it doesn't mean the police and the authorities aren't on alert you know we we do see responses to attacks in other parts of Europe where police will review their security and the increased security or good work people have. For example but in general terms been to the very corner of Europe and that. May be just a factor of geography here David McDougall a journalist based in Finland thanks for joining us on the West. Let's cross to the u.s. Next some female inmates in Tennessee had a long term contraceptives implanted in exchange for shorter prison sentences that's one of the stories coming out of America on b.b.c. News dot com today and some men were offered the sec to me the B.B.C.'s Jessica Lawson hope joins us now from Minnesota Jessica I read through this and honestly it's quite an incredible read can you take us through the story. Yeah so this is taking place in a very small town in Tennessee it's a rural community that only has you know one judge doing a lot of the work. For the criminal justice system and he put in an order that was going to reduce the jail sentences of men and women if they agreed to have some kind of reproductive service performed for a man that was the sec Timmy's for women it was the implanting of. The long acting birth control device in their arms the women because it's a simpler procedure several women had it done the men were going to have their respect to be performed by a local you're ologist news of this program sort of hit and this judge faced a lot of criticism and so he ultimately after at 1st defending the program ended up canceling it so none of the men that we know of actually had the exact performed but what was the thought process behind it why with the amount of foods contraceptives in the 1st place. Well this is this type of contraceptive Anyway yeah I mean it started out as a like a lot of places in the us this is an area that's struggling with an opioid crisis and originally the idea was that they wanted to offer inmates just a class on how fetuses how babies can be affected if the mother is taking drugs you know of any kind while she's pregnant for taking this class inmates were supposed to get 2 days off their sentence this judge ended up deciding to take it a step further and saying if you take the class and you sign up for these contraceptive services I'll give you 30 days off and that ended up being quite tempted or a good chunk of this jail population almost 70 people signed up so almost 70 people saw to it but did it give it ever get to the stage that they actually took them and who did you meet who did. Yeah so the women did get these it's called Next plan on Bryant in their arms and some of them were released early so I spoke to 6 different inmates 5 women and really the universal feedback is I just wanted to go home early it really had nothing to do with their wanting to have the device put in their arms several of them already wanted out there experiencing side effects that they were not anticipating and really you know I think that shows that they didn't really go into this knowing what they were signing up for. They do I don't think I talked to anyone who's saying this was great so glad that I got this free service and generally what's the reaction been you know in the why do u.s. Public service in the war and criticism if you like to why it might have happened. In the broader u.s. Media seemed pretty much a universal condemnation people are pretty horrified by this it's been compared to the pretty dark and shocking American. History a view of the eugenics movement. But you know interestingly when you sort of go around town it started to see this this idea this concept has a lot of support because Jessica thank you so much but I was going to head over to headlines that the B.B.C.'s Jessica Lawson hopped in Minnesota. Time we'll also hear why the chief executive of Infosys the Indian i.c. Company has resigned from his post blaming personal attacks but we'll find out what else. Just looking at the b.b.c. Live page on the Barcelona attack minute by minute updates the latest sentry France's foreign minister says 8 French citizens including 4 children were seriously injured we heard this and we crossed over to the live pages but a few more details coming in and that is that in all 28 French nationals who are among those hurt in the attacks were going to get more details on the victims too on that 2nd bus line that took place just over 24 hours ago so why is Spain a target and does this have anything to do with an ancient caliphate that once existed in the then Islamic burial his b.b.c. Minutes quick call it hold call jihadists have never given up trying to reclaim Spain for dollars for the Caliphate it was for over 500 years as part of the Islamic empire they wanted back words there from b.b.c. Security correspondent Frank Gardner Tom this is. On jihadism targeting Spain as a target for lumber reasons it's got a lot of popular most of whom are completely peaceful and. It's a fertile pool for jihadists to hunt in and see jihadist police operations have increased in Spain this year and more have happened in Barcelona than anywhere else some of them have spent time with Al Qaida supporters some of them have gone to so-called Islamic state that lot in any way to prejudice against the peaceful majority the fact is pushing people towards groups advocating violence. Familiar ploy and a feeling of exclusion from Spanish society a certain degree of racial prejudice there is a cause that feels it's excluded from normal society even if. Thanks to some from b.b.c. Man and our security correspondent Frank Gardner plenty more 62nd guides b.b.c. Minute don't com. We continue monitoring the license ones from Barcelona. And. Deals with the B.B.C.'s user generated content. What type of stories have you been hearing we've seen so many haven't where there's been so many pictures videos emerging on live and that's where we 1st saw the 1st pictures of the incident lots of people running around the streets. Panic in people's faces and you can see police in the streets as well and we verified a lot of the pictures online because of so many circulating and the problem one of the main problems was that people will be tweeting various pictures so it's hard to get hold of the originators of those people who took the pictures but the people who did get in contact with it were able to give us their experiences and a lot of it was mainly to do with mayhem it was just mayhem a lot of confusion people one minute warning shots the next minute they were ushered out by police or told to stay in stores. Al in case there were any further danger so. The 1st it is was a very confusing picture for a lot of people who many holidaymakers as well which was an added dimension many people weren't able to speak the language Spanish so that cause further confusion and fear it is though probably an area you know because there are so many nationalities there is the main tourist strip that goes Point 700 miles through the very center of. It is a place where you're going to get a lot of people who will get in contact with you that's why it's yes and we were able to get in contact with a lot of people from around the world who were visiting including the u.k. The u.s. And other countries in Europe and they all more or less said the same thing. You know that they were actually confused by what had. And in general fear and a lot of them decide that they will stay as well because they want to holiday and they want to cut short their holiday and they don't want the terrorists to disturb their plans so they carry don't how come people get in touch and also how do you gather and witness testimony in a in a breaking news story like this Well initially we do turn to Twitter to get information and we make contact directly to people who tweet. Tweets about what they've seen and heard and also we have stories up and running on the b.b.c. News website talk calm and able to add information at the bottom of the Web story for people to get in touch via e-mail or through whatsapp under Messiah from the B.B.C.'s user generated content thanks for joining us. It is just approaching 226 here in London that's the attack in Barcelona but 2 cities in headlines this week really the other one for each town in Sierra Leone the International Red Cross says the number of people killed in the mudslides that has passed 400 desperate situation on the ground that we had a little bit earlier from our correspondent and Mari for foreigner but one listener in Sierra Leone is spare a thought for the people and senses this what's up. My name is Francis Well you know it is sad to hear. That talking but you don't know where he's. Gone now but. Like. Popping. Up out of the war also being myself. You know. Again. I think all. It's probably not just. What. You have brought us and says that. These are. Yes well written but. If you see economy and Spondon underwater it's just the time of the task it's been quite a week for us President on Trump in business terms as well let's just reflect on some of things that have happened the truck the trucks wait for money this week for every c.e.o. That drops out the manufacturing Council I have many to take their place he said Grande standards should not have gone on jobs exclamation marks Let's talk about jobs and I'm very difficult wait when it comes to yes indeed and what happened was that he has this advisory council we had I should say past tense this advisory council which is particularly looking at manufacturing industry and in the wake of his comments about what happened in Charlottesville there are a number of resignations if it was a total of 8 happened before he decided that he was going to abandon the council and another more general business advisory council that he had he said it was to save them from embarrassment but there are reports that actually what was going on behind the scenes was that the administration was being told that many many more were going to resign in practice that the suggestion was being made that this council would have simply collapsed just as he certainly isolated now in the business community that I think there are certainly an awful lot of people in the business community do have I lot of reservations about about President Trump and they. Had a number of concerns about him there obviously their general day to day focuses on economic policy they've had a number of reservations particularly on his approach to trade policy which many many in the business community think is excessively confrontational they are much more in favor of much more open trade. Than he has been but I think it has been particularly difficult for businesses following what happened in Intel is covering they they do need to think 1st what whether as individuals what position they personally feel in relation to what he has been what he's been saying that they also I think have some issues in relation to their own to the feelings of their own employees and indeed to the customers that they have to deal with against that it must be said President Trump does have some support many of the people businesses deal with sell their goods to voted for him but then the dilemma that they have faced has been very much intensified in the last few days and I suppose we should point out that you know the job situation in America as a trend has been growing since President Trump has been in office indeed and it was moving in that direction for many years and the real recovery from the Great Recession started under President Obama and the American economy did produce a lot of new jobs many people would say the recovery has actually been disappointing but yes that trend has continued in the in the 1st 6 months or so of the trip almost right now if people listening in Canada or Mexico or the moments that probably aware of the term NAFTA start talks on renegotiation of NAFTA they ceased the Free Trade Agreement free trade agreement between those 3 countries Trump didn't like it didn't he reckoned it was the worst trade deal Americans had ever done he he said it was responsible for destroying jobs particularly manufacturing industry and President Trump tends to focus on the balance of trade in deciding whether a trade deal is good oh no and you know it takes place doesn't it particular with Mexico has a very substantial trade deficit Now most economists would say it doesn't actually make sense to focus particularly on bilateral trade balances but. That there certainly is a view shared by somebody many in the trumpet ministration that they did this indicates that this trade agreement does need to be really renegotiated to me. Make it fairer to the United States and those negotiations begin early this week although obviously they've been rather overshadowed by other things that have been going on in President Trump's world Andrew Walker thanks very much for joining us I'm just getting some breaking news coming to us from the Reuters news agency there reporting that South Africa has granted diplomatic immunity to Grace McGarvie to avoid assault charges dismissed security source Grace McGarvie failed to appear in court in Johannesburg on shoes day because of fears for her safety of course this relates to the basing of the modern model Gabrielle an angel angles she thought knew the whereabouts of her son there are claims there were 10 bodyguards watching gone as Grace McGarvie. Beats the South Africa model with a plug in place had issued a red alerts on the country's borders but Zimbabwe's 1st lady we didn't know where she was just then at the shoes accused of hitting this 20 year old woman over the head but now this source just coming in always of course claims from the model but this. News coming to us from Reuters news agency in the last few We wondered if it was going to happen but South Africa has granted diplomatic immunity to Grace Mugabe to avoid assault charges of course a long history between South Africa and Zimbabwe and it is it turned into a diplomatic problem there was this question of immunity. And of course by taking the quote approach he did risk a diplomatic route with Zimbabwe's governments but that's the latest on that situation with grace McGarvie. Let's take a look at some of the stories being worked on in the b.b.c. Newsroom this hour to a coup is trending worldwide police say 8 people have been stabbed in the city in Finland with 2 fatalities of to send suspect being shot in the leg and arrested. A reinforcing security across the country the Chinese authorities are set up an Internet court the only cases entirely online state media described as the 1st of its kind in the world and in Australia a security consultant for the All Blacks' Ruby team has been cleared of public mischief in relation to a surveillance bug placed in a New Zealand meeting room before last year's Bledisloe Cup tie against Australia. Ok you are listening to us from the b.b.c. From the b.b.c. News room here since central London now let's get right up to date with with what's been happening in in Barcelona this massive manhunt still underway in Spain for the man suspected of killing 14 individuals and injuring schools in Barcelona is last Rambus and she's a Spanish media named the man is 18 year old. Back here. We are still going back to Spain in the next few minutes I'm going to try and get a sense of the conversation at the moments of course after nice London Berlin and Stockholm Barcelona has become the latest city to witness a vehicle being driven into a crowd of people the story was developing Yes they spoke to many eyewitnesses here on and West Not surprisingly many of them were tourists so for a few moments now we're going to talk to some of the residents and Judy Villanova is a social media consultant and Noria out Calla is a local journalist Well Tom Wheeler is a teacher and earlier on Tom began telling us what he'd seen yesterday. About the way. About. What. They. Wrote but. Which I guess. Maybe I look like that. A few seconds. Jody Villanova social media consultant how do you feel now 24 hours on did you feel as if there was enough police presence well in my experience whenever I've been walking around in the area there's been plenty of police there. Park as far as I know. The There would be police officers coming chasing but by and as it was being written down but I don't know. You know firsthand I'm not the firsthand witness you might actually see a lot of records of us what was going on I don't think that there was a lack of police presence in the area. Noria we talked a lot about you know the inability really to be able to prevent a lot of these attacks happening but certain measures such as bylaws and intelligence that that can maybe restrict some of the events from from the would just happening if that's even possible do you think that the Boston authorities the Catalan authorities can be doing more such as blogs Well basically we have lived here and national meeting it's been the cats and government and the Spanish government trying out new measures in terms of security I think they've been working especially they've got some police. Many policemen have in in the last months in the streets of Barcelona changes there. Have been that presence in the city center and it seems I'm a journalist covering this and police stories no answers and. He won't sign hard work that. Sunday isn't hearing Marson have been suing. Tom can you relate nor is saying there abouts you know the feeling among people in both slanted to the today towards the authorities and. The oh you mention to open juices that there is a certain feeling of fear come looking in you new wind at the moment yeah that's me there would have been No I mean damn I have my street was on lockdown everything on late but you done it so early early out of only. About 2 or 3 I was off I thought. It would go up in my flat on my right I heard gunshots and then there are people been laying away from where there's a crowd gathered by the group the fact that one is my right they wouldn't be down toward the Rambler we've already made going in the ever direction and that kind of thing wasn't reported so clear with any know it but you know the reality about made it up they don't know what's going on beverages they leave it like that we didn't get it was so safe today you know yeah I mean I think they could have been more information being passed through us but at the same time. It we understand that they've. Been so hard to fight find the right to get it if they were to escape immediately and Julie had how do you feel as if the city's responded both socially on and on and on the streets may have seen so much chancing we'll Catalonia so much unit see what have you seen. Well I've been to work I don't freeze so you know I'm not really aware of what's going on in the street I mean I can understand that people are afraid on this kind of thing is not it's pretty unsettling but I think that on the whole you know the chance of being not only Catalonia Bittles So we are not afraid that's one of the hashtags it's been going around in Catholic so I think this is obviously. Because of the the initial sort of shock of this happening here on the ng you know often a nice parish in Stockholm. Judy Villanova's social media consultant Nora Calla a local journalist and Tom Wheeler a teacher in Boston and all speaking to me about the feeling in the city today you're listening to us from the b.b.c. . It's approaching 9 minutes to 6 in London now let me just bring you up to date with some news coming into us. And we've been sitting following events in Boston a very closely on the West today but it's also been a very vengeful week in the u.s. The white nationalists rally and show it's filled with Ginia that school the death of one young woman Well earlier I called sup with the b.b.c. Sounds and he's in Washington with his round up of the week in America lots week it was all North Korea and whether we were heading towards a possible war and that and if we turned on a dime thanks to the unrest in Charlottesville and this week is all that about Donald Trump's handle 8 of the situation 1st is rather tepid remarks on the day of the violence saying that there were many people to blame many sides to blame then on Monday his statement. And read off teleprompters scripted where he specifically denounced white nationalist groups of Ku Klux Klan neo nazis the people who are organizing and marched on Friday night on Saturday many people thought that it was insincere and on Tuesday that those doubts were confirmed because Donald Trump came back out and straight up said again that there were many people to blame both sides were to blame for the violence he attempted to defend some of the issues that the people were marching for the white nationalists were marching for and we've seen controversy swirls ever since then Republicans in Congress some of them have denounced him by name some of them have denounced the white nationalist The media has been in an uproar and it's it has dominated the American debate ever since Saturday really your weekly podcast trumps some forecasts they have difficulty trying to scramble to gather enough material every week we will certainly doesn't together with a variety of opinions tell us about this week's views Ok well what I tried to do with our guests both on the left and the right we're trying to glean Now what Trump was trying to do in his handling of this what what point he was trying to make and he was really trying to do make 2 points as I mentioned he was trying to describe the violence that took place on Saturday to not just the white nationalist demonstrators say that everyone there had a part to blame there were bad seeds there and then he tried to say quite explicitly particularly in tweets yesterday that while some of the demonstrators were reprehensible the things that they were marching about whether it is economic nationalism or the removal of Confederate Civil War statues there's one Charlottesville they're marching about that those were valid points and so I talked to Kristen Soltis Anderson who is a conservative pollster on why that has been a challenge for Donald Trump that nuance point why that was a challenge for him to make and why Trump's base may stick with him and may actually see see validity as argument so Here's Kristen the moment when you have such a clear cut incident of what is I believe domestic terror. Feels like the wrong moment to make the case that well there is violence on the far left as well however because Donald Trump I think reacts badly to the idea that he's being pushed by the media or elites to say something he has. Certainly the majority of his own party that stands behind him on on issues like this and I think that's why he feels and bold and even if he were you have looked at a lot of polls recently you find about 25 percent of America says things like Well the protesters had a point in Charlottesville the the white nationalist protesters that they will say things like they think immigration is bad or you know these are views that the Donald Trump has given voice to and said If you believe that that's Ok you're not a bad person and so as a result you know his approval rating even if it falls I can't see it going below 25 percent that's still 40000000 voters in America you can fill a lot of arenas you can sell a lot of hats with 40000000 people and some of the noise in Washington among Democrats is still about impeachment moves impeachment by the way not formally level some charges against government a lot of people since the thing that impeachment means automatic removal from office it doesn't what is the noise coming out about it well you hear a Democrat saying he's going to introduce a motion to impeach which will get absolutely nowhere unless you get Republican buy in on that it would take a majority of votes in the House to impeach the president and sent the Senate were take 2 thirds of the people there to remove him from office Republicans have a majority in the house to have a majority in the Senate in less to see Republicans actively break with Donald Trump never going to it's not going to happen and now they've they've condemned white nationalists saying that Donald Trump should have been more outspoken in his condemnation less nuanced in his arguments this week but there's a big difference between saying that which they've said in the past during the campaign they pretty sized and calling for his removal which would be entirely disruptive to their agenda and he hopes a passing tax or for infrastructure bill repealing health. Care reform any of that you can just throw away walk down the drain the B.B.C.'s Anthony search of that in Washington with his roundup of the week in America you're listening to us from the b.b.c. World Service we've been following events in Sierra Leone very closely all we can i wish yes they saw a mass burial for about 300 people killed by the mudslide and flooding on the outskirts of the capital Freetown some 600 people are still full to be missing while more than $400.00 people names have died about $3000.00 people are now homeless and there is also a growing concern about the risk to public health from multiple in the seizes we've been receiving whatsapp messages from listeners in Sierra Leone Oh wait this is one we received earlier from a volunteer in the rescue efforts and just the warning it contains graphic content that some people may find distressing the military.
