Labor candidates saying well you just heard this will go down as one of our party's hardest days of the last century even though they've held their seats. But it's been an awful night for Labor. We're still waiting for the results coming in but there are seats that I am very disappointed I'm very sad about. My very good friend . In hearing about the news that's happened there and so I feel in a way I'm I'm excited about retaining the seat there's lots of mixed emotions because there will be lots of great colleagues of mine up and down this country that face a very difficult. Job Jamie says he has failed the public and that's got to be down to the leadership when I was on the doorstep people weren't talking about bricks they were talking about public services they were talking about the impact of history the wise in low wages and that's really what was at the core of people's mind and maybe it was an edge Boston but clearly it wasn't in a lot of other parts of the country and I absolutely people want to Labor Government Yes we have let them down on that basis I absolutely agree with you because we've seen the impact of a stereotype some of the seats that we're seeing the results of might be related. Was going on in various different seasons so we do need to analyze the data at the end in terms of what happened and why. Now we're at the beginning of this campaign that if he will step down. Thank you very much. For getting the Northfield result. Commonly. Understood. That the number of votes cast for the candidates is as follows. Richard. 317. Larry. Hey. Larry Kenneth whistle u.k. Independence Party 254 Masters Eleanor Jane Green party 954. Row Keith Alexander party 1655 Sam Brook Gary William the Conservative Party candidate 19950. Was the the was. A house. Scottish Jamie Christian liberal Democrats 1961 the number of ballot papers rejected was as follows want of official Mark 0 voting for more than one candidate 25 write in or mark which is vote could be identified 3 been a marked or wholly void for uncertainty 112 total rejected ballot papers 140 number votes cast 43238. And I hereby declare that Gary William Sambrook has Judi been elected as a member of Parliament for them going north field constituency. Thank you Rob Firstly I say Frank you to all of the staff here tonight including the police in making sure that this was a quick and efficient count. Secondly I'd like to say thank you to my family and my friends who over many many years have been incredibly supportive to me and my political ambitions and campaigning and I am hugely hugely appreciative I'd also just like to point out to people from this campaign to say thank you one to Josh the Birmingham campaign manager. Happy birthday this is a very good birthday present for you. And also to my agent Agent thank you very much. Now let's be very clear the reason we have one here tonight in Birmingham Northfield is because of Rex it because people felt let down they felt betrayed they felt as if they had been ignored and taken for granted for far too long and it is also because the public trust the Conservative party with our public services where if the police where the n.h.s. And where schools. I am enormously grateful to the people of North failed for giving me this opportunity to represent them in Parliament and I have 4 pts on the campaign pledge of a plan for Northfield which I will deliver and I will not let you down I am also immeasurably grateful to the Conservative party for given the opportunity for a working class large from accounts of the states in Birmingham. To go to Parliament to represent the city but he was born in envelopes in parliament it's a hugely hugely Frank full for that it's. Labor can never pretend ever again that it is the party of the working class it is the Conservative Party who will represent the working class communities up and down this country day in and day out in this new parliament and beyond next week the job begins because we're going to get breaks it and. That's going to Brooke he's Except And so the speech which. Won 7 in a row in north field but it's 7 and outs I will talk about Richard Burton because he's been around for a long time in West Midlands politics but he's lost his seat tonight what about South stop you let's go there crowding. Hi Frank see. Yes I mean some stuff I'm sure we've now had the result declared and as predicted it is gone to the conservative candidate Gavin Williams and he won by a mage of voters of 36520 votes which is a bit of an increase on the majority he skid last time and he joins me now Gavin How is that being. A amazing feeling try to be humble to improve really have such an enormous indorsement for a sign of Safir chair constituents and it just makes you realise how lucky you are to represent such a beautiful part of the world and recognizes no. A lot of work to be getting on with you know today and we just heard about the news in North ala What was that like as conservative to see such seismic changes in West Midlands where what we've seen right across the West Midlands which voted quite clearly to exit the European Union they saw a Labor Party that wasn't interested in representing them or being a voice for them and quite simply they've shifted to the Conservative Party but it does put a responsibility on as a puts a burden of responsibility to make sure that we deliver it get Rick sit down and make sure that we deliver a whole range of changes and improvements for everyone right across from West Midlands that's gone for I am now what's next for you this evening one given where I was going to get a couple of hours kip of and then it's back home we can sit you and see work and Williams And thanks very much and congratulations again thanks. Chris thank you Chris Clark talking together Williamson they're the education secretary m.p. For Staffordshire south an increase majority for Gavin Williamson. Is with me in the studio it's b.b.c. Our election special it's 12 minutes past 4 on a Friday morning don't forget summit as we'll take it over from 6 I am with all of the reaction to what has been a mentor us night for both the Conservatives and the Labor party for completely different reasons because BRICs it wrecks it for labor they have been in meltdown you could say a sort of. Landslide mini landslide for the conservatives because the moment the prediction is for the conservatives to get 363 Labor 197 the s.n.p. At 53 there's a quote from Nicholas sturgeon talking about the s.n.p. Bitterly disappointed at the result u.k. Wide Johnson has a mandate to take England out of the e.u. Note she says England he emphatically does not have a mandate to take Scotland out of the e.u. The b.b.c. Says the s.n.p. Will win a minimum of 50 seats in Scotland so it north of the border a good result for Nicolas sturgeon but. We debated earlier on it's not going to go away the Scottish referendum and they voted north of the border to state in the e.u. So that's something that she can try and beat Boris Johnson over the head with but as you said earlier on mats it is Westminster that determines what happens it's the House of Commons yes it's the British Parliament that decides if you have a referendum is the British pound the decides if the Scottish Parliament can have more powers or Scotland can have independence but that's the legal position the political position. In Scotland is clearly that there will now be an expectation that Nicholas sturgeon will go to London and will require a referendum and if she doesn't get one the heat will start to come on here instead of on Boris Johnson because the people of Scotland I'm going anyway of applying pressure to Boris Johnson other than through the Scottish National Party and then the s.n.p. Will have to consider what its next move is running its own referendum refusing some sort of trade arrangement I'm not sure what but that the the demand for and the expectation for another Scottish referendum and for somehow keeping Scotland in touch with the you is going to be greater than before anything below Are you Ok it's Tempus for the morning. I'm feeling fine really invigorated by the historic nature of the result I don't know whether the mind playing tricks on me because when you don't have any sleep it's the middle of night you think well have we done this or not Dudley north we what we were promised it was sort of 10 minutes so I don't think we've had a collaboration yet have I think we know what the result will be but I think we do but Rob May you 10 minutes ago look this was an hour ago you said 10 minutes. Oh sorry I think it's like you're not sleeping or you're not living on the job they're all but almost dozed off. So I don't know how I got an hour ago you said 10 minutes for the thing off 10 minutes for that there was a big flurry of excitement and gosh was an hour ago that I feel I must have been involved like that for 14 always repeats isn't that well and interesting should say that because for people who've never been to an election count before I'm now looking and can describe the sort of carnage that is that is left over once the counting is finished which I think we are actually at that stage now we're into candidates being gathered so they've basically they knew the result before they go on stage they get told what's happened. All of the people who've been doing the counting can't go home until we've got a confirmed result in case there's any issue so the scene in front of me is rows and rows of tables of people sat looking to be almost fairly glum and bored in front of and tee boxes on and t. Take it all so that they where they were counting and strewn around are empty bottles of water. Boxes of eaten Toffees lots of cans of pop just discarded crisp packets so anybody nodded off that you know I'm not just looking round a can't you can't just spot in fact now you've said that there is a gentleman actually I don't know he just woken up there are some there are want to see people who look to of perhaps just be just be grabbing a wink just while we wait for the final results here I mean the desk in front of me is absolute chaos there's papers everywhere where people have been scribbling down their notes people glued to the t.v. Screens as well that they've got on their laptops as cables everywhere and I say discarded batteries Mts which you get you get the picture there's a big crowd of people down the front of the stage and. If it was an hour ago I do apologize but. Don't worry it's just a bit of a letdown but we're back with you when you got it doubly north it's a key one but the yob the result Birmingham Yardley about to be announced also have the. Candidates they're asking Franks. And whole grain. We're just waiting for. The last 2 here in the i.c.c. Just Phillips of course. Expected to keep her seat in. Green to hear Ali who is the lay become did it replacing what it got. Expected to be expected to be successful there yet with Jess Phillips and I spoke to her earlier on she had a majority before well the last election of 16 and a half 1000 but it was 60 percent leaving not because that you would see majority holds up then it just shows the jobless she's done here we go anyway. Yeah exactly and you know we saw it with. Say that there are people who are bucking that trend because presumably of their personal reputation and their efforts in the constituency now. North is ready almost Ok Well we'll stick with you for the moment. He's just taking a sip of his drink the returning officer right at this moment can get on. A. Parliamentary general election election of a Member of Parliament for the. Declaration of results I commonly. Declare that the number of votes cast for each candidate that's just follows. Gargan Christopher all 3 Marty 579. Guarantee them Vincent Robert Plant in the Conservative Party candidate 12720. 5. Roger Kingdon liberal Democrats 3754. You cannot marry and. Party 2246. Phillips Jessica Grose known as just Phillips Labor Party 23318 I say. The number of papers rejected this is follows one to the fish market 0 photo of more than one candidate 39 write in or mark by which the voter could be identified . You know mom or hold even though it was certainty 67. Total votes cast for 2785. I do here by 10 that. Jessica Grose Phillips is just that it has Judy been elected as Member of Parliament for them to guard the constituency. Thank you very very much. First of all I must say the fact is and apologies if I forget somebody because I'm quite tired. I must say my 6 thank you 1st of all to the people of Birmingham Yardley speaking to them over the past couple of weeks. About this election has not been easy many of them were desperate to vote Labor. Many of them did but they needed. Help to believe that they could carry on trusting us and I am delighted that so many of them again decided to trust me I am eternally grateful for their good humor. This is their kindness they are the best thing about being a member of parliament that is your constituents I'd like to thank my amazing volunteers routine of all the people who came from all over the country and some from other countries to help in the campaign and especially to John my agent and. All the other people know who they are I won't list them because I would inevitably forget somebody but I must say to myself thank you to my family who put over the huge amount they are conscripts to this and I specifically said I would mention my son Harry Phillips is named because he came out door knocking for the very 1st to. Say thank you to Harry. I'm just going to tell a small story about something that happened to. So as I was arriving to the canned my agent John told me that somebody had reported me to the electoral commission for treating today because I put on Twitter as is my word. That I had administered 7 food bag back just today. Because some people consider. That a food parcel for a family who has nothing to be a treat. That's is the tree we current live in and we can pretend it's different and in lots of parts of the country it is different but in this part of the country it is our reality. That something will think it's a treat to be able to feed your children. The reality is. That the people who have led to this have done this to our country have tonight's win an election because the people who should have fought against it failed to convince. We can dress it up any way we like but people needed us and we haven't been good enough to be their structure and so I will help every single person in my constituency one by one but it is. Not the values. We lost the line to the i.c.c. You heard just well it's a very passionate Jess Phillips extolling the virtues of labor saying clearly there's got to be changes but 6 percent was the swing against us Phillips Jack drove me swing 5 percent so those 2 Labor M.P.'s So the bucking the trend doing better than the majority of other Labor M.P.'s just drove me and Jess Phillips Michael well yet in a sense they were following a different trend the Birmingham trend of but burning them Labor M.P.'s have always been more resilient against changes in opinion and same in the council actions the Labor Party in Birmingham holds on better and particularly in this breakfast election because Birmingham was much much more usually divided than the Black Country and Coventry and other parts of the West Midlands it was easier for Labor Party politicians who who were seen as being equivocal about remain to survive public skepticism and of course you have got some big names in that yes you've got yes Philip you've got Liam Byrne You've got Chuck grow me and they will have added to the appeal of the party considerably so in most cases in Birmingham the Labor Party was losing up to 5 maybe 6 percent of its vote in the black country it's losing 12 or 15 percent of its votes and that's the story of what's happened to labor nationally is that where it was trying to sell a neutral message to a heavily breaks audience that normally votes Labor lost heavily if it was trying to present an anti our status the message to a loyal labor audience that was at least divided and possibly even. Pro remain on break his then it could survive perfectly well. Let's even get to where we were any closer to wordly north and any other declarations there Rob what's the update Hi frankly I'm wide awake this time I promise you so. No tech aeration and yet I can see the candidates for Dudley South lingering at the side of the stage to be honest I've only stood in front of the stage is turn around facing me because there's a big screen above my at the b.b.c. Results programme so it doesn't look like anything sort of totally imminent I think what's probably going to happen here is the going to get everyone ready and then rattle through all 4 in one go by the looks of things so. You know it's the this is really really strange one though because it seems like none of these results are actually actually in any doubt in Ok a lot of people are going to leave you there you go straight back to Cathy I say say because she's got another result the number of papers rejected was as follows one of the Fisher Mark. Green is the one candidate. Writing. We've lost the line to the i.c.c. So we'll try and get that sorted as soon as possible whole green is obviously the constituency where Roger got it was diesel Lexy there was a Labor majority of 34000 prior to the well at the last election Allie is the Labor candidate there Roger got it standing as an Independent so almost certainly to stay labor it's just a case of how big the majority is bound to be you to thought reduced what it was but Roger got a diesel elected. In a burning whole grain is that you can see to here Ali is the Labor candidate we await the result there that's still to come through it is a big labor when the results come in we just lost the line temporarily to the i.c.c. And Catherine session but it is a labor hole to Birmingham whole grain as you'd expect along with Liam Byrne burning a bill Shabana Mahmood burning in Ladywood Jess Phillips who we heard a few minutes ago very very passionate you could feel it we just feel it so disappointed for the party and the way that it's going but she is back in in Birmingham Yardley still waiting on Dudley north which was Ian Austin's old seat he resigned from the Labor Party the whole green result now to hey alley 35889 2nd a long way behind penny anodyne of the conservative 7381 is a Labor majority of 28 and a half 1000 it was 34000 when Roger gold safe was the m.p. Roger Cossack has got 4273 votes as an independent he finished 3rd in the Birmingham holding constituency behind Labor and the Conservatives ahead of the Lib Dems the Greens in the break 6 got below $1008.00 so the labor m.p. For Birmingham whole green will be to hear Allie got if was the selected So that's another Labor hold the have been gains for the conservatives 5 so far tonight it's probably going to be 6 to almost certainly going to be 6 with Dudley north still to be declared but the 5 so far to see. In West Bromwich East and West 2 seats in Wolverhampton that's where the Hampden Eastham were handed southwest one in Birmingham that's north of the old Richard Burton losing his seat Gary Sambrook taking over and Richard Burton. We have to talk about because he's been around for a long time 1992 we talked about the stick ability that he got but it's it's a punishing business politics Well it is and and although Richard Burton has ridden out declines in labor support at previous elections the brakes it issue was just too much for him and in the end it was still a very narrow defeat for him and it was in the face of a determined local campaigner who has taken his seat but. This is a sign of how far breaks it has bitten into labor support that even in Birmingham where for decades now it's been impossible for the Tories to to snatch even a single Labor seat. That we now find long serving Labor M.P.'s Aleutian Aziz Robert Dudley south they're announcing at least after me and I give notice that the number of votes recorded for each candidate of the said election is as follows. Jonathan and Michael Brunel liberal Democrats 1608 votes 1608. Lucy Woodruff called part Labor Party candidate 9270 votes 9270 was Katherine more Green Party candidate 863863. Michael John Ward the Conservative Party candidate 24000. By. Oh the 1. 2483 from. The number ballot papers rejected it was as follows for want from official mark for voting for all candidates than the voters entitle to 27 writing or mark which the votes could be identified one big unmarked the holy void for uncertainty 131 the totals for papers 163. The turnout for this constituency was 60.4 percent and I do hereby declare that Michael John Birt is duly elected was. A conservative let's hear. My quick. Thank you and I'd like to start by thanking the. The acting returning officer and all of his team for the way that they've run me the crown the city. Also thank you to the police and all the other star for keeping us safe and secure. And a big big thank you to my campaign team the people who've been coming out day after day in all wintry weather this rain sleet are used. To make sure that we could get our message across to voters right across. The South. And of course a big big thank you to my amazing wife Laura who as I've been reminded this evening is probably the most amazing wife in the world and frankly I don't think any of us in politics or any walk of life. Could do the role we do without the support about of our family of those it's home. Who pick up so much of the of the burden was for away. But finally I suppose the biggest thank you must go to the voters of Dudley Sorry it's been an enormous honor and privilege to represent of the Senate in parliament over the last 4 and a half years. Trying to work hard for the whole of Dudly south and over the last 6 or 7 weeks would be templated hard. Across every parts of Douglas areas as I'd like to thank everybody who wear the tags and voted today whoever they voted for that particular if they vote to reelect me. Saturday will mark the 25th anniversary of the deadly West pileup in 1994 after the sad death of John Black but. I mention this for 2 reasons firstly as a reminder that in politics and most things. Are temporary We know that tonight looks like it is going to be a fantastic night for the Conservative Party across the country results that are coming in so far I think of beyond most people's expectations but we know this in order to keep the privilege to be looks like it's been given to us this evening it means we have to carry on working hard to deliver on our promises to demonstrate that we deserve the trust has been placed in us and do what we can to improve things for people in each of our communities and the 2nd reason why I think the 20th anniversary of the byelection is relevant is it offers an obvious reminder the. Electoral success is only possible the way you reach aimed beyond your party's core base that you cannot be winning elections you cannot be hoping to lead the country if you compain you success to hide the small class face to a geographic based supports I think. I understand the leader of the opposition has indicated this will be his last election whoever the opposition chooses the next leader I think and democratic system does need it to be somebody who can broaden the support and actually reach out to. Cross the country so thank you thank you again I look forward to doing everything I can to represent doubly south in parliament and to make a real and practical difference locally. Am. That's Mike Morgan Goldman sound off and Robbie stubbled is majority there. About 3 sales in. Total The last time and so yeah we're very pleased that no great surprise this constituency has been heading in a concerted direction over the years it was 1st won by Labor back in 1907. A big margin actually but each subsequent election really things have headed towards the conservative party. I think fairly soon we're going to get the result for Dudley north so you want to stay with me to do. Yeah yeah we I can do much whatever Yes you do here if you have the power right you let's hear a bit of them. Because the Labor Party Cameron is just giving her losing speech door knocking he really. Didn't like doing it before. I don't like to pay tribute to my parents who supported me every step of the way. So. Congratulations might look after themselves as I know you well. December 13th distantly. So today isn't my day but I hope to fight hard. In politics thank you very much. So. Call the call the Labor Party candidate Dudley south. Going to hear from the Liberal Democrats I wonder if they might just talk about. Defeat. My mind right now is. The families. We're going to leave the Lib Dems talking major Swenson has lost her seat no longer an m.p. No longer leader of the Lib Dems 1st major party leaders lose their seats in the general election since 906 Gary Sambrook is with cash time session at the only c c . Yeah hi my machine sort of wanted to give up the ghost there I feel a little bit like that but if we are powering through Frank c. We are powering through here at Birmingham I've got to say most of the rain has cleared already here at the i.c.c. We've had all the results now I don't did you get the whole green results there were early on 35889 for Tehran So yeah not being troubled there at all but I am joined by the new m.p. For North failed conservative Gary Samberg congratulations thank you very much so a lot of people were saying that was on the cards you didn't seem to be taking it for granted. You know this is a c. But we haven't won since 1970 No we haven't had a conservative m.p. In Birmingham with the title Birmingham in it for 22 years so I was most definitely not going to get my chickens in for any exact However it was widely thought that you conducted a very effective campaign and of course following the BRICs vote which we've seen the trend across the country that you were a sort of a desirable option for people that well it was very clear from the beginning of the general election that people were fed up and they were fed up had been taken for granted and they were fed up with their voice wasn't listened to in 26 with a referendum and that's what I was offering I was voted leave campaign for leave and I'm going to deliver it for people to Northfield on the back of their referendum choice on the back of their choice in this general election as well you said Only I'm a working class lad from a council estate in Birmingham and I thank the Conservative party for giving me this opportunity Absolutely though I was 1st years of age I lived in the city my entire life on the board on a council estate. Went to a school which had an 11 percent pass rate while I was there you know the Conservative Party have offered me a great opportunity to become a member of parliament and to stand up for the people of North failed and my home city which can't list a king standing in North Birmingham and of course you have helped the King standing water the council for some time took that from labor they may have to get it back absolutely and when it was built it is the largest cancer's there in Europe so I had to work pretty hard to get become a council and that's what I think I've shown in your field as well about that determination having a plan and delivering it and I think hopefully that's what the people of North or the place they trusted me to do that the other thing you said was that never again can the Labor Party pretend it's the party of the working class do you think that has what has been shown tonight absolutely if you look at the election results up and down the country traditional working class communities which have always voted Labor have turned to the Conservatives as a new era of hope in a cloak of communities and delivering the fings that they want to deliver and it is very very clear from the vet all the campaigning that we did over the election that people were turning to us saying I have never voted Conservative before my parents would turn in their grave if they knew I was doing but they were issuing a token of trust to ensure that we do as we promised deliver breaks it and carry on with our plans of public services do you think that makes they knew and paid like you a bit of a one trick pony in a way because what is delivered that's what people were voting on absolutely not no because if you listen to our message it was get breaks it down so we can focus on other stuff and over stuff is our schools our n.h.s. And the police and that was the overriding message of the campaign that's the thing that people trust us to do say entering the corridors of power going into Westminster How does that feel feel very surreal I'm going to look forward to it and I said you know you're going to school but I went to live in the communes I did I'd never think and dream but I would end up doing this and I look forward to and hopefully delivering for the people in your field you are for a cheeky celebration or straight to bed I'm not entirely sure what the team has a plan but I'm sure they're probably drink in there somewhere. Thank you very much Gary Sambro the successful conservative candidate in your field and as you head there the 1st conservative m.p. For a seat has Birmingham in the name for over 20 years. Kathlyn moment thank you the b.b.c. Predict to get conservative majority now at around 74 seats 74 the conservative majority under 79 seats declared conservatives 84 Labor 74 as it stands the West Midlands area the tail of the type will bring in the national figures momentarily but the tale of the tape in the b.b.c. Area oldish brown hills when he bought in for the conservatives holding but passed him preach Gill holding on for Labor in Erdington Jack drew me with a reduced majority but bucking the trend of Labor M.P.'s all prospective M.P.'s had this election he holds on in Birmingham Erdington to hear Allie takes Birmingham wholegrain for labor that's a hold all Chilean burns still with a huge majority in burning up on shale of the mood with a bigger even bigger majority in the Birmingham Ladywood for labor holding on Gary Sambrook 1st conservative Birmingham m.p. Apart from Sutton Coldfield for a long time he's taken Birmingham Northfield burning in Perry Barr Selly Oak and Yardley all held by Labor colleagues Mahmood Steve McCabe and Jess Phillips in Bromsgrove Sandy Jabot holding on there with a big majority comic Amanda milling the conservative m.p. Still conservative m.p. Dudley South Mike would doubling his majority there in that field Michael Fabricant increasing his majority for the conservatives in Meriden. Psyche Bharti at the new m.p. Their current Spellman standing down but still a big majority increased majority for the conservatives in Redditch Rachel McLean with an increased majority in Solihull Julia Knight increasing his majority for the conservatives stuffing to south Gavin Williamson the conservative m.p. And minister with an increased majority there in Sutton Coldfield Andrew Mitchell No surprise increased majority time with Chris pincher for the Conservatives and the north with a massive increase in his majority of the conservatives at Walsall north and Hughes I should say in Walsall north. South Valery fast holding on for Labor in Wally John spoke with a big Labor majority West Bromwich East West Bromwich where. Changes conservative gains Nicolo Richards and Shaun Bailey the new M.P.'s there will have to ne new conservative m.p. Jane Stevenson what will happen south east Pat McFadden holding on in Wolverhampton bucking the trend in the Black Country will perhaps and southwestward Anderson for the conservatives that's again over labor Stuart Anderson the new m.p. There Dominic Grieve in beckons fields standing as an independent former Tory of course lost but he did get 29 percent of the vote 16000 votes which is pretty respectable he sang the Union is now in serious danger and that's the Union with obviously the s. And P's getting in excess of 50 states the current is 13 but pretty good to get in excess of 56 tonight the last conservative to win a seat with Birmingham in the title Andrew Hargreaves who want to hold Green 992 lost in 1997 Matt Cole is with me just surveying the electoral scene tonight and at the moment conservatives up 40 labor down 40 the Lib Dems in meltdown Jo Swinson is gone obliterated losing her seat losing the leadership the Lib Dems a non-entity now politically Well they're still in single figures of M.P.'s at the moment which is to them perhaps the disturbing thing they're up there quite a few of their target seats are the seats they currently hold still to come in but they're not going to be in any better position than they were in the last parliament and they going to have lost the leader around whom they built their election campaign so they are in a very weak position and that distinctive. Policy view of opposing Bracks it has now lost all political credibility because they're not only in terms of parliamentary victory but in terms of share of the vote Boris Johnson will be able to point to the fact that his party and. Of the leave parties or leave elements of for example the Labor Party must amount to 50 percent of the votes where we are going hardest on remain failed miserably Yeah when you sift through all this map what seems to be clear when you're looking at all the numbers is that 3 years ago and it seems like a lot longer than that people voted to leave the European Union and since that time people have said Oh you did know what you're voting for of the else but 5050 to 48 so it was a narrow but it was a Democratic vote and over the last 3 years parliamentarians have stopped it happening a put every obstacle seemingly in the way of a democratic vote and Boris Johnson by saying get it done even though the still a lot negotiations to come that message has got through even with hardline Labor voters because Labor stance was neutral we're going to be called when we need to renegotiate the deal offer it back to the people and people were sick to the back teeth with it they wanted it sorted and Labor lost a lot of votes here and a lot of seats because of their stance on drugs it not necessarily about the politics and generally Corbin and his likeability are not that may have come into it but the bricks it issue has cost them majorly hasn't well. You have to remember that Labor was. In a bit of a cleft stick there's nothing you can do right for doing wrong if it position itself as being in favor of braces or supporting brakes it's even supposing in broad terms never mind supposing Johnson's deal then it would lose votes the Liberal Democrats in other parts of the country Remember the West Midlands is the most BRICs part of the region of the United Kingdom. On the other hand you can say that the time that was spent in power at least produced a specific deal and we now are not now not only that the public don't want to be in the European Union has to exist we discover that 2016 we now know they are prepared in almost majority figures to support Boris Johnson's current deal and the parties that want it to resist that deal have lost their support so this has proved this election has proved something the referendum did prove something and all the arguments in between did result in the deal that we've now just voted for it was pretty acrimonious it was pretty destructive any of the political progress and discussion and that's why the public at this point was saying Ok this deal is good enough now just stop arguing about the least move on to the next stage the current national total by the way conservatives are to $99.00 Labor $192.00 the s.n.p. Is $44.00 the Lib Dems have $788.00 seats $87.00 out of the Clare the majority of those looking at the forecast are going to be conservative states conservative up to 300 now Labor 192 Rob Maya is is waiting. Interpreter we're still waiting for more results here in Stanbridge Franks a I think it's going to be quite quite seeing now and I'm just looking for maybe slightly longer anyway I've got with me Mike Wood and pay. The m.p. For did we se just. What the defendant is see successfully doubled his majority big smile on his face my congratulations 1st thanks very much for all. What you put out them Yes I mean obviously you are totally West that byelection the same as exactly 25 years ago today it isn't John that was 10 results all seniors generally bashing like reform is going to be obvious saboteurs the tough the December 2090. I Kevin John O'Keefe being the acting returning officer at the above election do hereby give notice that the number of votes recorded for each candidate's up the said election is as follows. Christopher Ashley Brown liberal Democrat 25232523. Erin Hudson independent 621621 . Peter Leslie low Labor Party candidate $13963.00 the law be one we are going $63.00. 100 Pall Mall Green Party candidate 10481048. Suzanne Webb the Conservative Party candidate 27000 to it was. Was. 7.3. The number of ballot papers we're trying to do is follows want official Mark 0 voting for more than one candidate 26 writing a mark by which the votes could be identified one big unmarked or wholly void for uncertainty $115.00 the total rejection ballots one for. The turnouts in this constituency was 65.58 percent I do hereby declare that Suzanne Webb is duly elected it. Was. To. Shake hands with the wound in force and not. And there she was what a night it is 8 as the line goes caput but hopefully it will be restored in the fullness of time Susan and where replacing Margot James who stood down in stab rich Suzanne Webb with a 30 and a half 1000 majority roughly was 7600 or so a big increase in majority for Susan Webb the new m.p. For stab Ridge as a model James standing down but a comfortable victory Pete low 2nd in that constituency but some new names to look out for for everybody politically in the West Midlands Yes Susan where only became the candidates matter of weeks before the before the election and how to how to get to work campaigning pretty quickly so we will have a new name in North wield a new name in style bridge we will have a new name in Dublin or whenever it finally delivers itself as a result there's going to be call tomorrow. And. Guess across the whole of the Black Country in West Bromwich 2 seats in 2 seats in Wolverhampton we've had changes of control by party and new candidates coming in so yes they'll be a series of new faces some of them emerging from local government as in north failed and in West Bromwich but some of the candidates who with an experience across the region in their party like Susan Webb. Will be finding out what role these will play in parliament may be that some of them start so much Jess Phillips in the in the column inches in the air time but the Labor Party M.P.'s that remain and particularly the ones in Birmingham will have an important leadership role in rebuilding their party support yes because some of them still have very sizeable majority is and some of them have a book the train when they looked under threats they have held on it's only Northfield in the burning. Area that has gone blue for the conservatives Caroline Lucas By the way is still the only green m. Pay She's got in it Brighton Pavillion So Caroline Lucas he's back in Unlike Joe Swedes and who has lost his seat north of the border in Dunbartonshire so no longer an m.p. No longer leader of the Lib Dems who in meltdown just as Labor are current running total conservatives now $308.00 nationally Labor will $92.00 the s.n.p. $44.00 the Lib Dems have $779.00 seats to declare the majority of those will be conservative and at the moment the same conservatives likely to get a majority of something in the region of 7312 Now these results coming in all the time conservatives 312 Labor woman 82 s.n.p. 44 and the s.n.p. Will be badgering the prime minister Boris Johnson about independence about leaving the e.u. Because they voted to remain so we know that's going to be something for him to contend with but Labor are the party now Boris Johnson has taken the conservatives to what we'd say would be a mini landslide victory but the Labor Party completely now needs to reassess where it's at I notice Jeremy called me saying he won't stand at the next election he's now saying as well that there is going to be a period of reflection he will see over a period of reflection a lot of people saying that period shouldn't be more than 24 hours but it might be a matter of days possibly weeks but he's not going to stay he's got to go ultimately. Ultimately yes but you can you can see he's playing the same stalling game that he played over breakfast and he's played over most arguments in his own party including the argument over anti semitism the Labor Party is divided so it's a leader has to take things very slowly and have discussions behind closed doors does that mean that anybody coming in to replace Jeremy Corbett who's maybe more central rather than. On the left will face problems from within the party well almost certainly because Jeremy Corbyn was very well supported by his own party members and in order to be a label leader he was he was elected and then reelected when challenged by Alan Smith by well over half of the party in all sections of the party so anybody else who wants to replace him or even wants to replace the tradition he stands for if if a Corbin ite successor candidate comes up is going to have to conciliate with. That portion of the party going to win over some of the people who supported Corbin and will now realize Ok if that was a good idea it's no longer a good idea and we need to move on but that's going to occupy the Labor Party for maybe a year until they've got a new leader. They might conceivably do it during 2020. My guess is they would do it before the 2020 conference now that gives Boris Johnson all the time he needs to get brags it done and to start talking about spending public money. But he will also face the challenge of Scotland and of Northern Ireland. Yeah because the do you piece losing your seats tonight and obviously that border that customs border is going to have to be there in some form or other so there's a lot of issues still to be decided. Instead I think we've reconnected with Rob we have you can hopefully hear me now you wait all night for some results to come in frank see and then you are lying goes down. That's live radio it's why everybody know you. You couldn't write it because you're there you're there so what we have so we've had the South a conservative hold We've had our bridge a conservative hold as well so we are still to hear about Haile's Owen and rally Regis which we expect to be a conservative hold and dudly north which was decided by just $22.00 votes this time but we suspect is going to be a much bigger and conservative gain this time. Around in the evening some conservatives here were talking about a majority of 5000 on a seat that they lost by 22 votes last time so there are there's a bit of an exodus going on now as we just hear a few speeches from the Stanbridge constituency losers we heard from Suzanne Webb who gave she said get bricks it done quite a lot in in her victory speech and hopefully it's not me too much longer for the others but there's a bit of an exodus going on there so that the counties want need is any more are finding their way out there's some. Very dejected looking labor faces making their way out so young lady just walking past now in a hate brags it love Corbin t. Shirt heading making our way to the exit and pull out and if you can hear this. That's my empty packet of sweets I've just had my last hair about. Gummy sweets are available. Hopefully much longer before we get hell's own around the region which we expect to be a conservative hold for James Morris and then Dudley north which we think is going to be a conservative gain for Marco long just be interesting to see what the numbers are like just how big a win it might be. It's really really strange here because you know I think you lost me when I was talking to Mike would you have then and we caught most of it right there but it's a very strange thing because in a way we're doing the same interview. At about half past 10 so confident of the Conservatives been here all night and so dejected and so miserable really the Labor candidate so you just knew they were going to lose by by that sort of time in the evening that was sort of doing the same interviews again which is all a bit strange so. You know it's just this is very unusual basically that people really put their necks on the line early in the evening so just at the front now I can see the candidates for Dudly north I think it is quite a long way away but I think it's to the north being. Just taken behind a screen so they can be told the exact figures of course the you know the ideas they have in their head of what their their party workers have been counting up all night as they watch the counting going on so they've got you know they know who's one they've got a good idea what the numbers might be they're just finding out the exact numbers it is the deadly North candidates I can see they're just being told yet they're sort of behind a screen just to the right hand of the stage and there's a lot of milling around in front of the stage at the moment as people get ready for this results. We are going to be it's going to be anyway if you just bear with me dragging in. And the more from the Green Party. And how we feel sometimes. Just as you step forward and it's like magic the candidates are on the stage will grab you in a minute I promise you a fact thank. You Green Party activist for West Midlands man a couple of years ago as well here we go we're going to get the North result North Thursday 12 December 2090. 7 Johnny keeping the acting Returning Officer action do hereby give notice that the number of votes recorded for each candidate to settle action is as follows. Sarah not only doubling the Labor Party candidate 11601 of its 11601. The inflator the Liberal Democrat candidate 121-1210. Michael John Harris the Green Party candidate 731 votes 73 no. Marco the Conservative Party candidate 23000 thank you I. I I. We lost the line to rob there but the majority is 11 a half 1000 for Marco longer it was a Labor majority 22 of the last election in Austin with that was the narrowest margin but he's obviously stood down he's resigned from the party's told people to vote conservative that's exactly what they've done mark a long 23114 votes Melanie Dudley. But not the m.p. 11600 and warm 1210 for the Lib Dems in Flynn Mark Harrison for the Greens 739 to the conservative majority in the north 11 and a half 1000 for Marco along that's a massive transformation is not really yes in that single seat we've gone from a position of almost exact balance between the 2 main parties there's a difference of $22.00 votes between them last time now there's a difference of $11000.00 votes more than $11000.00 votes invite 17 percent swing that is that's right 63 percent of the votes gone to the Conservative Party now. With with a completely new calendar. Fighting the seat for the conservatives and. A new Labor candidate brought in the last minute after in Austin left the Labor party and invited people to vote Tory. This time no bricks candidate no Ukip candidate to drain votes away from the Tories and the Tories have the win in their sails they have been a mentor they have the credibility they have the Bracks it issues about can we go back to Dudley north.
