Let's see how long that one for. Probably strikes by the way the way it's going to from that supply that tomorrow night in a moment I poignant heartwarming story about the friendship between a city girl and I home less ma'am bethen story coming up about Kevin just after. Night night. And 95. a let me. Just such a chance to listen. To. This. And when. The. Parents want to talk tonight it's a crime trying to guess tonight is back in just 6. Minute wore to work from New Street station in Birmingham she sees about 10 homeless people every day but one man in particular got to her his name is Kevin and Beth and describes him as an inspiration to everyone whether they choose to notice him or not and Beth and joins me on the program right now Beth and thank you very much indeed for joining me tonight and no problem it's a pleasure so 1st of all tell me a little bit about yourself where where were you born and brought up. And I was actually brought up in Birmingham in the approach. And I look at you I was about 18 until I went to university in China and I recently just mazed back so that's how I met Kevin really because I started working at the city center Ok and what's family life the year is your family in this area. Yeah I've just moved back with my family actually learned the state so yeah back living with them now Ok What was he like moving back to your home if you like. It's been great. It's definitely different child and then like be it independent but it's definitely a shock and was still walking in town and I think it's kind of getting used to it was. Quite difficult for us to see the amount of homeless people able to see on the whites were. It has opened up many opportunities. Yes So as you say you're working back in Birmingham city center now and you see homeless people every day and anybody that walks through a lot of city centers but Birmingham of particular because this is where you are now how does that make you feel when you when you see this daily. It really shocked me especially may have been from Cheltenham where I didn't maybe see many happiest people all from the 6 minute walk a half it was shocking how many people are still and how I felt invisible and ignored and I just think. So right I just think that it's shocking that there's this amount of homeless people in such a short space so what might you not his Kevin in particular. I think it was just his kind of not a he says hello to every passer by he never makes you feel guilty if you can't give him change and he just wants someone to talk to right imo but your 1st impression of him. He was extremely talkative and he was so kind and he has a was aggressive OPEC's people for many he basically just wanted a Heartbreak Kid and somebody to talk to which was really refreshing because he kind of put in south out that which a lot of him is probably don't feel like they could do and he became a public a proper member of society and everybody knows him on the way to and everyone talks to him so how many times have you seen him before you decided to even talk to him. I mean as I did walking in the city said to the table so it can't been that long I think it was probably a few weeks it was when it kind of became Beigel that he was sent back and I just thought it was such a cry to like it and something I really wanted to help him with but we're coming to the bags in a few moments time as you got to know him best What's he like as a person. He's just so kind and he constantly is coming up to compliment to the people he calls me an inspiration Di and to make calls you an inspiration Yeah and they just shocks me because to me I'm just giving something that anyone could do or anyone should do and to make the inspiration for setting up a business absolute you know I think. The talk openly about it's time to be homeless. And he doesn't and I haven't cried because I don't think that's my story to tell I think that that's his for when he's right day I think I think there's a misconception of why people and homeless and they are going to slice ways I think shouldn't which I don't think is always the case and I think forgot this is why there is we all like a lot of people like celebrities. Have the ability to get help and the funds to go to rehab whereas people walking past it twice Shouldn't don't have that I think that should be highlighted more than the fact that they have excessive. Well Kevin has actually said that he's homeless period because of family tragedy. Where of that. I knew partially about it and I know he says goes for a lot of mental health issues but it's not something I have pride in to because I try not to focus on the negative things but then because I want to but promote the positives and the good things that he's doing so does it annoy you them when you see people ignoring him because you obviously don't ignore him act. No I spent most I strive to it's often a bit like the Gap it carries us. But I just think it's sad because we've got the human band. How much effect is directing a lot and sometimes I think the on dated one or isolated and I think he's not well cold and go back to a family and that's what I think is lovely when in reality that is not the case and I think people need to just think about that aspect to it that these people have no I want a nest then and we should treat them like we would want to be treated and to see talk about what he's like living on the streets. He doesn't often I think he tries to have a politics like outlook on life. So I can't really ask too much but fortunately actually this week a spin room and some keys to an up a price. The minute he actually has to like to stay but now he's still selling the bikes and going back onto the straights to keep kind of like the social aspect and be able to afford the new challenge they face and with living on his own you know that many people would find it hard to understand why someone who's treated like they're invisible would still say good morning to those who ignore him does he have to towards others actually surprise you. Definitely just because. I can't imagine being and not just wish the situation so I think in that situation and still want to talk to people and still want to get up in the moment and still want to be positive but he has such a great outlook on life and I think he wants to get back to the community and by selling the bikes and being positive it makes him feel back to about taking money off of people that doesn't make it set up a 2nd. Do you same every day when you go into palings the center. Most cases do. When this is a bit too early to have to be up but yes seen every day and I please die he signs money supply every day send it back and he's putting himself out there he's just the same every day. So when you go home to a nice warm home do you think about him Do you worry where is what's happening. Yet constantly I think I just might be more grateful for that that I saw I have and not coming home to a will then I don't bat an eye do you worry about him but I know that he's in contact with shouted and he's raising money to be outcast hot drinks so I just might feel better but I think you can't worry about their think Tressa just got a focus on helping it change so let's talk about the banks as you mention a couple times he sounds back so tell me about that and yeah it started off actually with a man named Greg Wright was looking closely with now people in the original set aside and set the idea of a back issue into his demeanor Ok good line was that. He people I just saw enough cap in a region and thought it was so incredible he wanted to expand the business and he kind of given the platform to be out to sell the box on the line and buy it back so when I saw this I kind of wanted to help so I thought that I could buy Kevin more bottle supply so that he never has to kind of he's any profit to look at my materials in my haste I suppose by 50 to be able to put him with more bad things to try to continue the business to make money to help him buy suit all pay for and I shall come. Bethan let's just catch our breath here for a 2nd if we can I. Will come back in a few moments time and actually talk about how people can help Kevin will do that a few moments time on b.b.c. W.-m. 95. You start in the. Cross my heart I was. Sick of it. Because I can even do. That even. So here and so won't. I'm talking to Beth and about Kevin but she met on her way to work Kevin's really touched you. Yeah definitely I think it's just really made me great for what I have especially like kind of going to the Christmas period like when people buy gifts kind of right and it kind of just made me grateful they keep people like cats and not just kept them for any one like they could have tracked. But take particular care centers like touch my home yeah so Kevin has actually done something to. To Reisa money when you see others homeless people on the streets about means city center or any town or city right across state lines when you see them not actually doing anything what what what's the difference that to say I think to some extent some people don't want to help and I think until they're ready to help get help sorry and be proactive then they won't have that approach I think sometimes fails I don't have the capabilities to do this or that people won't listen to them which is why Kevin is so important because he shows in the demonstrates that anyone can Michael basis and anyone can achieve what they want to if they put their mind to it said we would talk about Kevin making the banks and selling them for a fixed price of these banks. They raised and I think people are being extremely generous because they can say that about the one of the calling each one is different and it's like my head was left on I'm afraid I said get over it for a pound to people get up to 20 pounds bikes and I think it shifted a generation I mean I don't I say Sorry I don't actually from the heart so he doesn't get much reach back what about the cost to make them. At the moment I. Find like thanks to Greg I'm just grateful has done I could towards my page because we have found a way to quite supply just the box may be cheaper so I count the profit for each bag it's actually quite hard because it. You set up a crowdfunding for him Tell me about that. Yeah basically I just wanted to help him get a small box and some pencil that he didn't have to buy and I think and he could kind of make some money can't buy food and kind of to buy it so I have rich in the stock you know with the I did I guess about 75 pounds of France. And that would be a and it would be enough to get bad. Money is to write for the kill 100 pound and I've had various another post like donations and it's just been made homemade to see that people care for 40 minutes your targets and the page is still open for to the nation so give me some thoughts some of how people can actually directly help mostly what's the website address. If you going to just give it and such best and don't send my pay just about what to come and keep can donate today if you choose to deny that way it will go to supply a whole box to Kevin It will also not go to the cost of a slave so how can it be out you that buy food or the get electric because he truly has no say in the price that he is the alternative is to go on to the bad if she's old and you could buy stock direct less which will then kind of go to buying whole box trade and the profits will go to Kevin directly Well just to make it easy we puts the links on my show page on Facebook my show page is like my Grand Trunk since of money wants to follow the links from there that's probably the easiest way of doing it email change snus no problem at all you mention Beth and your back into Birmingham city center I'm working because you're working at the city in China do you think that because you're coming in new to this if you like only the last few months a couple months that's you see more on and people who live and work in city centers right across the u.k. Actually have become numb to it. 100 percent I think I can see the size of myself my biggest goal when I've gone down but I think I'm shocked pink probably went off people which is really terrible but like kind of getting away from that back into it it's a real coca shock and I was completely Malk And I think people just need to open my skull and be aware and I suppose we call it a hell of a way to change a person and it can change that might be more like kids like me I can't help them. Like I think it's a simple hello could go such a long way. Everybody has their own thoughts on it's a backlash to when people have said things like. I haven't particularly because of trying not to surround myself with negative comments I think that everyone is really like for the I did this all this late or was kind of its conception is good to be a drug addict or a drink which isn't the case and I just think that people have been really on board with that and really wanted to help and I see making you feel personally. I think it's made me feel like I what site has made me feel good to get a lot of positive feedback that people sent a good Kevin that was really good about it but it made me feel realized while I've gone and lost kind of value I have. To get to the point where you won't have to do this animal. I know I stay in touch with Kevin regardless of whether I'm he still needs the help or not but I was expecting. The bike to shoot so we want to expand not the hope of Paypal and provide them with bike to be out to South but I think ultimately it helps them feel like they don't like it if they give in to step back I don't wish I had the time and thought people buying a jury's Willcox.
