Serial books Jerusalem the biography Simon seabag Montefiore reminds us that the city was once a god into center of the world the house of the one God He goes on the capital of 2 peoples the temple of 3 religions always a beauty sometimes a shameless scarlet sometimes a wounded princess whose lovers have her 2nd. Which makes one wonder how Donald Trump see so since this United States president is reported to be on the point of a move on preset Antony's contested times ready to stand by the secular State of Israel it names the holy city as its capital. President some may be on the verge of one of his most controversial moves yet he's been busy on the phone telling several Arab leaders that in the fullness of time he intends to move the American Embassy and as a.o. From Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and that the United States is preparing to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital in response the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas said the decision would undermine the Middle Eastern peace process and regional stability Saudi Arabia's King Solomon told Mr chump that any such move would provoke Muslims around the world and president of Turkey. Type Arab who once said that the move would cross a red line for Muslims not exactly a resigning vote of confidence we are joined by Aaron David Miller vice president for the new initiatives at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Hello Mr Miller. They're out our area well as I said of you with us on a night like this no. Can you and pick this a little bit for us because I know that we've you know we witnessed a lot of silence the plume a sale on the part of Mr Trump's son in law Judd Cousteau it's been an honor to visit a lot are you I mean look I work for half a dozen secretaries of state and every time uses your Came up my advice was always the same don't fool around don't play around don't mess around with Jerusalem is the most emotional controversial complicated issue in the complex of issues that now divides the divide Israelis and Palestinians Number 2 there's no question that the u.s. Embassy belongs to West Jerusalem Israel is one of the few countries in the world in which the United States does not maintain its embassy in the in the host country capital but at the same time this move with little preparation at a time when Israelis and Palestinians are deeply divided don't trust one another and a time when the president himself is trying to on and on wind his own initiative probably early next year I would argue to you this is ill timed ill advised ill conceived and frankly it doesn't serve any American national interest and I think and listen I'm missing something and there are very mysterious secret diplomacy that has this move a part of a broader strategy and I frankly doubted this was largely an effort by a frustrated president who's Cheiron of using the national security waiver who made a campaign commitment and who is tired of people who say you can't do it you shouldn't do it and you won't do anything he's going to tomorrow early afternoon I've heard our time. He's going to issue a statement probably will open an embassy in West Jerusalem or Jerusalem probably going to make a statement but the truth is words frankly are. As damaging on this issue as stone so whether or not he actually moves the embassy right now I think is not the point in case 3 to 4 years to actually construct security considerations the u.s. And. But desperation unless he conditions is heavily and I'm not sure how he would do that. In can help this already already long odds peace process right. We never we never know with Donald Trump what his what he's actually going to say I mean the could be there could be a surprise here but it's difficult to know what that surprise would be right now I'm sure I'll tell you surprise yourself surprised if he said I'm moving I'm moving the embassy to us I mean the Jews there I could Jerusalem the capital of Israel. In pursuit of a negotiation toward a Jewish state solution which I now endures if Palestinians and Israelis end up negotiating the issue of yours and the Palestinians set up a capital in the east Well you know. All expendable Metacritic vision to them to their capital even if he were to say that the chances of him saying that are slim to none right because he doesn't even ride your surprise Thank you well I mean right I'm going to go wish for wonderful things tonight but if he did that I would be a 2 state solution wouldn't which he has never really had the us that would be that would be historic no u.s. President has ever done anything like that and it would be a double you would be a double shot and you know it would be all it would be ambitious but Imust on the Star Wars vision that's going to take place in a galaxy far far away not that here on planet Earth. Tell us about you know the emotion behind the reactions of Thai people I'm interested in are the Jordanians I mean the Jordanians are always the calmest people on the block but when it comes to this what are you thinking I mean well the Jordanians. The states that have the most the power the parties are of the moshing taking and it's like it's like being everything else the closest people who are to the closer you are to the problem geographically and demographically the more you have to lose so the parties that are going to be most affected by it are the Palestinians. The Israelis and the Jordanians because you know right that your journey is really are from a practical standpoint because Jodi of the harem i Sharif the noble enclosure the platform on top of which is the relic where even a dome of the rock and the last go I'll accept which is a very holy site to Muslims blow that black floor below are the remains of both the 1st that is 1st the jacket Jewish temple the Jordanians maintaining the upkeep of that you're always there is by Jewel for security and but the Jordanians pay the palea moms maintain the building so again it is probably quite worried you knowing he's worried about the prospect that why don't he's worried about the possibility that his own peace treaty with Israel ruled out come under the microscope. If this Jerusalem issue gets out of hand and again right we don't know how bad the reaction going to be let's be clear we really don't know but if you were looking for an issue to make up in a laboratory that would be serving as a catalyst. Trigger to a large scale violence and grievances and external midget. I mean you look no further than Jerusalem because too far too often in the past it's been a jigger virus I'm waiting for a map room I'm holding a red letter visit to a ship this time around but we've seen it in 9090 rethought in 9096 we saw it in 2000 and we saw it earlier this year in 2017 when the Israelis and the magnetron members meddled with 10 years on the entrances to the platform you had violence Rigo this is a major change in American policy and it will be perceived by the Palestinians and the Arabs and Muslim as a very good recognition whether they intend it or not that just over Israel's. Recapitalised West Jerusalem as the president might in chair and bent over Israel sovereignty of the entire city including East Jerusalem to which well as many in this buyer as they get moved and whether Israel has 200000 people illegally settled. Yes and again and in any conceivable 2 state solution the reality is as was established in the Clinton parameters. The majority demographic neighborhoods in the east those that have a majority of Jews would probably accrue to Israeli sovereignty and those without a majority of Palestinians those Palestinian the neighborhoods would be a challenge to the Palestinian state the fact is the peace process right now is comatose and the chances of a 2 state solution were already pretty grim before the us. I think makes it a lot harder. And again I think the logic here was the president of the United States. Of exercising actual security waiver hired people Charlie can't do. One of the campaign commitments wanted to separate himself from Iraq Obama wanted to be the 1st American president . Anywhere in. That part of a strategy. That well. It's going to be costly to his own initiative. And David Miller great to have you with us thank you very much indeed. Always a part. Of a. To another of the big stories in the news tonight the i.o.c. Ban on Russia from competing the Winter Olympics next year in South Korea a 17 months investigation by the i.o.c. Concluding that there was systematic manipulation and Russia of the process designed to catch drug cheats find evidence of massive cheating involving passing little files of urine through secret holes to secret labs the Sochi Winter Olympics secretly opening them and refilling them with. Contaminated stuff not the i.o.c. Says Russian athletes will be able to compete as long as they can prove that they are clean however they are going to be marching under a neutral flag still thinking up Russia's Olympic Committee says Moscow is going to appeal Fessor Roger Pelkey as professor of sports governance University of Colorado Boulder and director of the sports governing center there Hello Professor Pelkey. Lou Well were you sitting there going why is it taking you so long. Quite enjoying the conversation. So I meant I actually met were you thinking why is the i.o.c. Taking so long to make up its mind on this well it's even longer than the 17 months . He was made aware of the shenanigans going on in Russia for a whistleblower in 2011 to give reporting in The Mail on Sunday and 2013 and it's only been in the last 2 years that the public pressure from continued revelations really forced the i.o.c. To take action when it. Would be in the considerations I mean if you're in the the corridors of power in the i.o.c. What do you owe to Russia are still sort of kind of there for the Tsotsi Olympics yeah I mean one thing to understand for this whole issue is that there was a big gap in the governance of anti-doping the focus has always been on athletes individual athletes who break the rules so focus on Ben Jonson Lance Armstrong and where water did not have any provisions was to what to do with organizations that cheat the breakables much less the state so here you have a situation where. Dating back to before Rio The i.o.c. Was making up the rules as they were trying to implement them and that opens the door of course to politics geopolitics or even sport politics exchanging of chats and who's your friend and who do you all favors so it's no surprise that the actions taken Rio last year were quite different than what we saw happening today so they're going to do it and they're going to keep most of the the existing Russian slighted force out by the sound of it does that weaken the idea of the Olympics. Yeah you know I'd be cautious last year at real risk something like $280.00 Russians out of an original $400.00 Cooper It is a paid. Change the designation of issues are not neutral athletes the new term is a limp dick athletes from Russia for they will have the word Russia on their uniform and i.o.c. Has not released the procedure through which through which Russian athletes will be vetted and allowed into the games this year I'm betting I'm going to bet the Russian hockey team or the Olympic athletes from Russia hockey team wins the gold medal this year. Right because that's the other thing is that a lot of them can do it without any kind of artificial assistance that's right and you know that it is a very you know it's kind of tragic and troubling situation as there are a lot of athletes who who were not caught up in the systematic doping regime some team athletes of individual athletes and their victims of of the situation as well so it will be very interesting to see how stringent. How tight the i.o.c. Vetting process will be for Russians to go in because as you say the Winter Olympics without Russia aren't really quite the Winter Olympics that we're used to . And when you when you said you were making a comparison with the Rio could you just go a little further on that because it's signs of the whole public furor about doping really caught the i.o.c. Off guard before Rio at least yet with this they've had a chance to think. Yeah before Rio things were happening really quite fast and the i.o.c. Did not apparently want to make a decision for the entire Russian contingent that was set to Rio So what they did was they they sent the issue back to each of the big international sport that aeration So you had $47.00 different international sport Federation tasked with deciding if there isn't how many Russians they would allow in track and field the idol a s decided they would have no Russian. But many of the other sports admitted many Russians such as swimming for example so this year there's been a number of events most notably the release of the movie 'd the documentary Ikarus which which follows along with. The masterminds of the Russian doping train scheme Gregory Rudd chink of. That and the investigations that have been done through Wada and now the i.o.c. Just prove to be too much overwhelming evidence that for the i.o.c. To maintain any credibility they had acted they did today as Roger palkee thank you very much as the journey. Well the picture on the front of all the papers or a lot of papers will tell it all Christine Keeler sitting far as one could tell with nothing on on one of these rather beautiful sixty's designer dining chairs and it was the picture that launched a revolution in many ways in popular culture. Miscue or the farmer model the center of the Profumo scandal has died at the age of 75 figure affair with John Profumo at the height of the Cold War had a profound impact on British politics particularly as it was thought she was having an affair with a Russian diplomat at the same time Profumo was eventually forced to resign after lying to parliament about the affair Russian involvement always seems a key to these things Jonathan has not missed George f. Kennedy Fessor in the school of historical studies at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton New Jersey law professor has them. We overstated the impact of the Profumo scandal I don't think so I think it was as I remember it as a child it was a writer's chattering blow to government. And it was the you know the early beginnings of what became a permissive society I think Mrs Saatchi began the talk and sort of trickle down. It took a while to reach people like me well and me to a spare about the same age and a picture of Christine Keeler would have been quite as exciting for us as it was probably for our dads but. When you looked at this and I know it isn't great detail Would you can you just lay there so nicely for somebody who was born in let's say 990 and really has only heard of this is a distant echo. Sure this was a very precarious situation where a young lady. She was and is 17 when she met Mr Ward who was last year passed who worked for all sorts of top people in society somehow she ended up in bed with the assistant Russian. Cache and she also end up in bed for the Secretary of State for War who wasn't a full member of the cabinet but he was a member of the cabinet defense committee. To share secrets and. She did the job for Mr Ward Mr Ward used to get information out of Mr Profumo which was passed on. To the Russian. Government does its best to cover up Mr McMillan was very good at covering everything up. And they went to great lengths to. Get revenge on Mr Ward on the grounds that he was for curing women for others. Was a pimp which I don't know whether he was on but he said he was doing side work for the Russians and this is something key there is always very clear about. Did did Keillor know what she was doing I mean is there any sense in which she could be exonerated from I so no. She knew what she was saying but you know she was a late teenager out and sleep with all sorts of exotic people you know this was the only permissive society that sound she had no understanding of politics told. She was being used and she was being used badly and she but she was very fond of Ward. He had thought of brought her into this glamorous world she was completely out of her depth that's why in a way evidence is so reliable She gave a late interview on woken in 1909 to Sue Lawley and she says you know Ward was a spy was spying for the Russians I gave him material that I got from perfume. And it was it was appalling sin but she always was very honest about it. And say I was and I feel. Sorry that it's difficult now to reconstruct this but the early sixty's time when the Berlin Wall when top that was. Of another war we were just went through the Cuban missile crisis in October 62 and there were all these spy story spies Kaz Mr McMillan the prime minister had to go through and what Ward was getting from. Mr Profumo Mr Profumo had it was only cabinet Defense Command he had access to everything. Including plans for what was known as a multilateral force they were going to arm the Germans with nuclear weapons in Europe to help to fan Europe against the Russians. All of this detail was passed through to the Russians of Ward So this was something that we only went to know about this was covered up. 6 know about this at the time you know I'm reading the latest Bowman that says. This was really m I 5 job and m I 5 a monumental incompetent. And. I mean they really were behind the trial it was a lot to learn the Lord Chancellor who found out managed to grab most of this detail and the fact that Keeler had been interviewed by the police and m I 5 and she had passed on information like this but everybody in government in those days you know it's hard to remember the fifty's but almost everything was covered up every family had skeletons in the closet and had more than most. I mean the personal. Combi overstated counted she didn't really live of a happy life. Destroyed to see she didn't come from a happy background as she was trying to make it up in society you know to move on. And she very much hoped and $89.00 with the film and the memoir that she would be rehabilitated the story of Peter Ward would be. Stephen Ward sorry will be set straight and of course it wasn't if you look at a picture of her on the lowly on that with Sue Lawley in 1909 then look at the picture of her just before she died you know it tells a 1000 tales she she suffered but I mean war committed suicide I mean there was nothing worse perfume of course manage to live on and although he was involved in charities manage to carry on much as before. You know that those were the days when top people somehow that excuse was always found for them. You know it's not on the United States know in the United States nor in the in the whip's office and. It's that sort of culture isn't it frayed it is you don't want to get come out from the bottom I get mixed up with the sort of thing. That's what Jonathan has I'm thank you very much indeed thank you. It's half past 1. Premier League football and you want to see this is b.b.c. 5 Live where the b.b.c. Moscow in the Champions League manager Jos a marina was relieved to get into the last 16 as group winners. You have to because you don't want to qualify with the shit you don't want to qualify that performance so the objective was to qualify playing well and trying to get. At least a positive result and they're very very. Chelsea though can expect a tough draw in the last 16 after qualifying from their group in 2nd it's after being held to a 11 draw by Athletico Madrid affable correspondent John Murray was at Stamford Bridge this was a result that wasn't good enough for either team for Chelsea it meant they were overtaken by Roma at the top of the group Fred logical it means the runners up in 2 of the last 4 seasons are out of the Champions League finishing 3rd in a section it turned into quite an entertaining back in the 2nd half Athletico taking the lead through a cell Nikos header Chelsea equalized with a savage own goal but athletic goalkeeper Black had a good night Chelsea couldn't take the chances they had to win it and now if Liverpool go on to win their group Chelsea will only be able to draw Barcelona. Or predict us in the last 16 Celtic lost one nil at home to the lax they'll be in the Europa League last 32 in the spring the former England batsman Mark Butcher who hit 173 not out to steer the team to a famous backs to the wall win against Australia in 2001 says Joe Root side must believe they can win the 2nd Test in Adelaide England need another 178 runs on the last day and have 6 wickets in hand it's not a trick helpful to think about how many going to get it's just really very much a case of concentrate 100 percent on the next ball it comes down which is I guess no different from any other time but there's a good reason why so few large 4th innings down interest because the pressure situation kind of gets as much special starts at 3 15 am on 5 Live Sports Extra and in the u.k. I Player across the u.k. This is b.b.c. 5 Live Oak all mixed with. A very nasty surprise for householders invented a country in southern California when they wildfires broke out and forced many of them to leave their homes thousands of people actually leaving so far fires broke late yesterday and Ventura and Santa Paula on the fire services trying to tackle the blazes and calling for a lot of these fixed wing aircraft which brought in to tackle really serious forest fire the fire chief of Ventura County Mark Lawrenson says are now focusing on evacuating people and protecting buildings we have over 500 firefighting personnel out on the lines I know we have confirmed 2 structures were lost we know we have some reports also structures burning in some of the canyons the fire is pushing quickly towards the city of Ventura we are making sure we are out ahead of the fire making sure we have a back you ations in advance of the fire and we're basically leapfrogging our engines doing structure defense as a fire proceeds while we can talk to the climatologist Paul Beckwith who used to live in Ventura County I gather Hello Mr Beckwith Hello good evening and evening So tell us I mean this is so this is around what they call Aventura freeway isn't it so is north of the the city of Los Angeles. Yes it's to the north west of the city of Los Angeles. And I used to live in and in 1000 Oaks California which is just a little bit so east of where the fire is now. And I've got lots of friends that live there so I get updates every every few minutes on on Facebook and Twitter and so on from them. We can still I think remember the devastation that was caused in Northern California around Santa Rosa. Earlier in the also I mean the sort of scale of fire we're talking about here is as big as that one yet Well this fire has grown incredibly fast there's actually 4 different pockets of fires that have started up and the largest one. They all started last night. From from basically you know sparks or who knows what we what the cause was. But as of last night they were only about 500 acres which is about 200 hectares and overnight they jumped 23540000 hectares earlier sorry acres and the latest is you know they're pushing 50000. Acres which is about $20000.00 hectors So they're basically they've had massive increases in size the winds are. Approaching 100 kilometers an hour 120 kilometers an hour and the wind it's very dry and very hot and because there were fires because there was a lot of rain in the spring the vegetation grew quite quite well so there's lots of fuel for these fires and since the spring they've had growth and you get these Santa Ana winds funneling through the mountain passes to very high winds and it just these things just travel so quickly hard to fight them what sort of. You know we're talking about. It's very help for new it's basically almost like a desert really I mean there's a lot of irrigation you know there's palm trees and things in residential areas but that's just through through irrigation. You know the climate is people say the climate sort of like the Met It's termed by climatologists. As a Mediterranean type type climate around around the Los Angeles region. And as I mean there's a lot of county and so in this part of the area. Yes there's a lot of canyons and this is one of the issues because the wind gets kind of funneled or channeled in between these canyons and it can build up to very high speeds if it was flat it would be spread out over the whole region but it's basically focused into these canyons which is where that where the problem lies a lot of lot of residents that are residential areas or areas in those canyons as well it's Lea So so this is a big big huge problem yes and how does this December compare to other December because I was thought of December as a really very pleasant month in southern California Yes Well the the fire season if you like is generally from September starts in September and it runs 8 months roughly to about April or so so December is 1 of the peak times for 4 fires now in this particular region in Ventura County generally in the last 10 years they haven't had major fires because they get it they get a bit of rain in the fall and that kind of keeps the fire levels down but they did there was no rain in the fall this year it's been very hard to dry ice so so this year is a huge problem same thing with Northern California and wind country back a few months ago that. When and they have those here and it's fires. And you're wearing a professional as a climatologist are you prepared to make any. For the hardy statements about where this is all going yes yes absolutely. The bottom line is the the Arctic is getting a lot darker because we're losing sea ice and snow cover so it's a lot darker it's absorbing a lot more energy so it's warming that you know high Arctic is warming it. At anywhere from $4.00 to $8.00 times faster than the rest of the planet so what determines the location of the jet streams and things is the temperature difference the Arctic cold equator is warm that temperature different sets up the jet streams with because the Arctic swarming so much the temperature difference is lower the jet streams are way here so we're getting more the more extreme weather events so the frequency the severity and the duration of extreme weather events like Terentia rains in some regions droughts in other regions are are increasing so so you know the California region is speech super dry the Southwest us is super dry and this is because you can track this to the location of the jet stream's which ultimately depends on the Arctic so where this is heading is the Arctic is very likely to completely to sea ice by September say by 2020 I mean it's going very quickly. Yes so the extreme weather events that we're seeing including the increase of wildfires is going to ramp up significantly in the next few years so it's you know the world needs to get its act together to deal with climate change its site I've been saying it's we really have a global climate emergency on our hands and we have to act as if it is an emergency and you know we don't see that happening as long as countries around the world have huge subsidies on fossil fuels to the tune of about 5 trillion dollars a year we as a public know the government is not serious in addressing this problem. Well Bakra thanks for talking to us thank you well. We're always told Think Big and dream big Well that's exactly what our next guest has done his name is Logan mover He's 16 years old he lives in Kentucky and he has a fascination with roller coasters school why not build one in the garden and after a mere 2 months of construction his handiwork has paid off let's speak to Logan no Logan Hello how are you good her use it all finished Yes it's exits actually itself an ist actually there's gap in its way that bad a week ago and was about 2 months of work done so yeah it's also an issue. That's that's less time than most people it seems to me would take to build an entire roller coaster Yes it yesterday as it took a lot of time. It's very time consuming so it is. How big is it can you give us some statistics. Well it's. A half 3 and I would say roughly it's about. 5000 say to crack it was just page about 12 to 30 mph so you know it's a pretty good size coaster and you know the hives pretty well and so you know that's kind of the statistics of it when when you said it's a half eaten mean it's a half the high yesterday and half the high at the high Right right so if anything if any on to our door to happen you probably wouldn't need the fire department to get people off it you know if you're a factor here called something how was it a hard hard cider game plays high was powered. Well I actually have a went to them at the top of it and usually when chairs are used for you know pulling cars out of. Their chairs and those sort of things that have actually got away and check the top of it and it is powered by just a regular car buyers and there's about a 15 there's a cable that comes out of it and I connect that to the car and it goes right up the hill like I said which is a half a tall and then from there amen you go down that 1st drop. How many people can go on us at one time. Only one person it's only one person ride one person can ride it at one time so it was the 1st person off to you to write a well the 1st person after me was actually one of my good friends a smash same I just while. And then you know of course for a lot of my family rode it because ns and other friends while do you have any. Style but do you have any oversized relatives who you buy from going on the roller coaster where yes that is actually do there is a weight limit sort of on it. You know it's made for people I might you know of course from a 30 size of May and smaller kids of course but it's actually you know as little as some more people that are like you said bigger size I could actually probably ride it but I just said not too much there you know in May but I guess that it's mainly my from a. You know younger kids toil see. What a girl's make of it. Well they think it's you know very interesting and I mean you know it's just been a big accomplishment I would say and so yeah a lot of people think it's you know. It's very and you know like I said it's a sketch and everybody's attention so you know this is the best of. Some less you know civilized people and yourself would call a chick magnet do they do they come running around and say oh please Logan let's ride on your roller coaster Yeah you're here you're actually ride on my ass There's been many people that you know who have Cena and there's 1st time fall in love and when Mike Ryder them back I said I've had many friends come say it and that's 1st question I asked when like not it that's a great example that you pointed out it is like a magnet everybody does around to catch everybody's attention I just said it 1st when I say it right and any any. Any accidents I mean anybody throw up or it's not that kind of a roller coaster is it you know I mean you know there hasn't been any accidents and I you know that I'm a liar said before anybody rides it you know clothing may I go in to make sure every bell the spur than make sure all the wood is good not routing the path as good wheels are you know a lot on the route was I make sure things are out of the right why just as you would rewrite coaster and I know that's not what it is but for other people safety before they do ride it you know that's what I want to make sure keep it safe course do make them wear a helmet. Yes actually and any time that anybody does ride it they don't need to have a helmet on so. That's like a more helmet. Very good and have you had any any professional interest you know from the people at some of the big parks like 6 Flags so they are they quaking because you've got this roller coaster Well no not not to this point yet like I said it's just we just started with based on Friday let never body no you know my goal is that at some point I think or you know my eyes will see in me and just didn't you know say what I have to say or offer but at this time now I haven't. Well well and are you planning to charge admission or will it be strictly according to who's nice to you but a high I don't know for sure I'm glad I have to charge because like I said it's been a lot of money without aerials will white on my hands. Logan Moore jolly nice to speak to thank you very much indeed Ok thank you for town Thank you indeed Logan Moore was talking to us from Harlan County in Kentucky where he's built his own roller coaster out of wood a quick look at the papers this morning reveals a big story simmering away splashed over the front pages of The Telegraph and the murder on the Sun The Telegraph headline m I 5 files Islamist terror plot to kill me meaning of course Prime Minister the Telegraph has a front page detail on it as does the murder. Which mentions what you heard in the news from us that 2 people are due in court and the sun subhead here says the police are claiming that they foiled a terror threats or 2 people have been charged that's all I can officially tell you but apart from that the Daily Mail's plastics in the ocean campaign is really taking off this week the un environmental conference we'll be talking about this later on in the 4 o'clock hour of the program if you're still with us and actually a un official is sure Eric sure I'm sure the front of the mail waving an earlier edition of The Mail says let's turn the tide on plastics and there are suggestions in the Financial Times that the possibility of James Murdoch being the boss of Disney could result from the sale of certain Fox assets 21st Century Fox assets to the Disney company so that could be very interesting anyway Dynasty rolls on here as well the Daily Express has to say but. Yeah let's hear I think let's hear quickly from the Daily Express Michael Booker the deputy editor Well the big story on page one today Rod is a story about diabetes in particular type 2 diabetes which is the most common form of sex hundreds of thousands of people in Britain every year and the good news is that it can be put into remission with dieting where last a study has seemingly proved around half of those with Type 2 went into remission after 12 months using a low calorie diet and no medication according to this trial of $300.00 people in Scotland in Tyneside which has been run by the Diabetes U.K.'s charity the vast majority of people got type 2 diabetes and it's been linked to lifestyle import diet and what they did was half received a standard care from the Jeep a while the other half in this trial received a structured way management program and it showed that 46 percent of those who took part in the diet program were in remission after 12 months one woman in particular was Isabel Marie who's from North she lost 22 kilograms and no longer needs diabetes medication and she says I don't even think of myself as diabetic anymore the research just spun testate and it can going to revolutionize the way a type 2 diabetes is treated and lead researcher Professor Michael Lane from the University of Glasgow said when Type 2 diabetes into remission as early as possible could have extraordinary benefits both for the individual and the n.h.s. So everyone's very very excited about it but when you think there are it seems fairly simple clear like commonsense are well. People people are good common sense . Michael Booker express more from Michael later and here is David dollar from the Boston Globe Oh David. And we're going to talk about Alabama where the Senate election is due in 6 days. Of course that starts the way for the Republican mainstream to go out and campaign for Judge Roy Moore. That's right Roy Moore for a while there he was persona non-grata with all of these disclosures that he had pursued or assaulted underage girls several years ago when those allegations came out via the Washington Post President Trump put a little distance between himself and more and certainly the Republican establishment the likes of Mitch McConnell and others were not at all supportive of his campaign but in the last couple of days Trump has sort of come around he's endorsed more now going to go down there in the next little while to campaign in the next state over and the Republican National Committee after saying it wasn't going to give him any money they're now supporting his candidacy again we have this story on the front page tonight in tomorrow's paper Boston Globe because Steve Bana and the sort of former White House strategist. Has has jumped into the campaign is down there tonight is going to be about here in the next a little while and Bannon of course is the super anti-establishment character he's backing a bunch of outsider candidates around the country more is his number one candidate right now he's the focus of the entire political world is on this race because it's a special election as you say that's set to stay to a take place on December. Next Tuesday and more excuse me Bannon will be down there with more hoping to notch a win in his belt and prove to everybody that his kind of white nationalist. Mentality and approach to this anti-establishment approach is the way to go I think the Republican establishment doesn't quite know what to do we've heard from the likes of Mitt Romney and others still criticizing. More write more for all of the allegations around him. It's very interesting though isn't that Mitch McConnell . The Senate majority leader has changed his tune and he 1st of all said that if Roy Moore one he should be seated and and then he came out on Sunday and said well what the voters of Alabama decide that's right I think this might be coming down to numbers Mitch McConnell is a is a master of legislative technician at least that's his reputation and he certainly needs a majority in the Senate to get the Republican agenda through they got through got the the tax bill through on the 1st pass just a few days ago he wants to pass more legislation he needs to keep that seat it would be very surprising for a Democrat to win in Alabama which has been a strongly Republican state for quite a while Doug Jones is the Democrat running in there in that seat he's you know being described by Trump is too liberal which is that the classic label that one puts on a Democrat in the south Doug Jones has a strong civil rights background and we will see in the next 6 days what happens I gather that the polls are showing more with a slight advantage right now but we will see what what sort of action Trump causes and if there are any more disclosures The Washington Post has been doing terrific work on this and I see you quoting somebody saying that if Reimer actually gets to the Senate that he'll make much McConnell's life a living hell so he's not going to be a friend of the Republican majority no no and that that's the irony here is that he's not going to be a team player the guy that used to be the troublemaker was Ted Cruz of course and one of the folks that we spoke to said that Roy Moore will norm. Lies Ted Cruz Ted Cruz of course is the Texas senator whose antics said he contributed to the temporary government shut government shut down a couple years ago 3 or 4 years ago I should say he of course ran for president. Who knows what he's going to do next but Roy Moore I so I gather would be even more of a disruptive figure than Ted Cruz was. And quick the so warning really from the Boston Globe If you are a skilled high tech worker and a lot of a lot of people have of gone from Britain to to the u.s. Over the last 4050 years as a skilled engineers be prepared for a much harder time with immigration because the the trumpet ministration want. That's right we're taking a look at the one b. Worker program that allows companies to temporarily hire foreign workers for jobs that require sort of a specialized knowledge that includes a college degree these are a big deal in the tech industry which of course is is huge here in Greater Boston the trumpets ministration is dramatically stepped up it's scrutiny forcing a lot of companies and academic institutions to wait months and months and months to fill those jobs with overseed workers. At the Boston Globe thank you very much thank you.
