Mo Farah says he will defend his 10000 meter title in next year's Tokyo Olympics the 36 year old quit track events in 27 seem to concentrate on the marathon his track return comes as he's faced questions about his former coach Alberto Salazar who's been banned for 4 years for doping violations the weather for bad starts and back strong on Sunday but also cold today a maximum temperature 7 degrees Celsius and you can get the latest news and sports online at b.b.c. Don't slash 3 count if this is the j.v. Esho b.b.c. 3 counties radio Yes good morning still to come at 11 today I'll deal with your consumer problems also after 10. And this hour in fact do you think 20 mile an hour zone are a good idea or not it's be revealed 37 percent of drivers do not obey 20 mile an hour zone and as we know there's is in place in some built up areas particularly near schools but despite that figures show that more than $1200.00 children a year are hit in 20 mile an hour so in fact home injuries involving under seventeen's happen in the well I guess that's no real surprise as it's in these areas that children are most likely to be my question to you. Do you think 20 mile an hour zones are a good idea or not would you like to see more of them where I'm sitting here talking to you now and Dunstable there are lots and lots of road most of the residential roads if not all of 20 mile an hour so. I wonder whether that's a good idea and something that we should see in all of our towns across threads Hartson parks or is it just bloomin annoying or one double double I'll take your reaction a little later on 1st I want to talk about climate change. And I want to know whether you support the children who are walking out of school in protest against a lack of action on climate change it's happening again today. Young people in more than $100.00 towns and cities in the u.k. a Walking out of school to highlight climate change locally protests are taking part in Bedford beckons fields Harpenden hot foot High Wycombe pseudo buns and Steven age. This is a form of protest that spread all over the world it started in August 2018 when grosser thunb took up her position outside Sweden's parliament for the 1st time she held a simple sign black letters on a white board that said school strike for climate Well she told the b.b.c. Since at that time I felt as if she was the only one who cared about the climate and the ecological crisis but of course that's not the case now my question to you to support the children walking out of school in protest against a lack of action on climate change is the number if you'd like to get involved if you'd like to have your say. Number to call you can text as well they want 3 double 3 Start your checks or 3 c. . Standard network rates you can e-mail me here at the b.b.c. J.b.s. At b.b.c. Dot co dot u.k. To support the children walking out of school in protest against the lack of action on climate change Ok I'll 80810 down by late. Show b.b.c. 3 counties radio. My. You. Didn't. See. The Polish. They made it so smooth snow you. Got. To give them. 2. 100. I'm going B.b.c. 3 counties radio live across Bedford and bucking share coming up at 11 today I'll deal with your consumer problems also a little later on in this hour do you think 20 mile an hour zones are a good idea or not I'll take your reaction your experiences but 1st I want to talk climate change with you Do you support the children walking out of school in protest against a lack of action on climate change young people in more than $100.00 towns and cities in the u.k. Have walked out of school to highlight climate change and yet another protest locally is happening in Bedford beckons failed Harpenden halted High Wycombe single bans and Stephen h. We've discussed this before. Some of you have voiced concerns about these protests fading that this is ridiculous for children to Holt's their own education in order to make a protest about something that to be honest they could make a protest about on a Saturday or Sunday when it wouldn't affect their education but we have to be honest climate change is something. That we are now talking about more and more and quite rightly it was the focus of the Channel 4 leaders debate last night even Top Gear's biggest petrolhead Jeremy Clarkson has now become a climate change believer. So he's opinion on these protests now changing as well this form of protest started back in August 2018 when Gresh a thin Berg took up her position outside Sweden's parliament for the 1st time she held a simple sign black letters on a white board it just said school strike for climate would you support the children walking out of school in protest against a lack of action on climate change is the number of your coal one double double light double I love to hear from you l c in Bedford he's 15 and I think he's taking part in the climate change protest today had a Royal St who had a good morning so you're going to be walking out of school if you haven't done so already today can you just explain to some of my listeners who may not quite understand the message or trying to get across why why you feel strongly about this . I mean I personally feel very strongly about this because. I mean my favorite subject so is the joke or say and when I was speaking to my friends I realized that they don't get taught about climate change like people that don't take your coffee they don't at all about the severity of climate change and I think it's really important that everyone talk about going to affect our future so it's you're frustrated by some of the ignorance out there. But what do you hope you'll achieve by interrupting your own education today. I mean I hope that people are listening to us before when we were telling them that we need to change and so maybe. Stepping out of our education for a day will show them how strongly we feel about Celtic So you think people will notice Yeah although notice more than before because if we were just sitting on the sachet then people could just walk past us but on a Friday it's actually the schools have to listen to us and the people around us have to yeah I mean I guess if you did this tomorrow if you did a protest on climate change tomorrow the chances are you and I wouldn't be having this conversation now and we wouldn't be talking making making it clear to thousands of people that this is an issue that people need to wake up to and I guess that's the counter-argument isn't it bought Having said that tell me what lessons would you normally have today. I'm not totally sure but I can't remember you have a timetable in front of you but you are not but you would ordinarily have lessons wouldn't you and your missing out on those lessons I mean how do you know that you are going to be able to catch up on what you've missed out on today see the thing is. Kate is taking part in a strike that's on a school day it's not about purposely missing a good education so you have to catch up it's it's just to make people notice so I have no problem with catching up and I'll be doing that fine but what about the teachers some How do they feel about this if they supportive or do they find it frustrating because one of the teachers for example is going to have to spend some time with you extra time with you and with other kids that have have gone this protest today bringing you up to speed with everyone else. I mean I catch up in my own time but. The teeth the teachin still I mean from my school generally they're very supportive. Yes so they understand why this is important to you and why you want to do it yet they say that it's my own choice if I decide that I'd like to touch up my and that's my choice. I have a right choice I will say thank you very much indeed I. Do so listening to l.z. I mean do you support her decision to walk out of. To walk out of school today I tell. Jess is a student in Holland and good morning to you Janice good morning good morning Jan So what are your views only your going to be walking out of school as well today Agatha Yes I am indeed I'm taking part in the I'm in climate strike organized by the surgeon those school Climate Action Group Ali that's mild school so that plastic Yes I used to go there but I mean f. Or f. We got if we'd gone on a protest I mean we would have been whole switch to you know good not going to get in trouble for this well we've we've started off climate action groups and all school and very quickly we've gained quite big numbers you know recently I had teachers said in the news last and it makes me very proud to see groups like this one really trying to make a difference to all of our futures and to be honest we've had a lot of kind of support from our teachers and school because they too recognize that this is a very very serious crisis. So so for people who are listening to this program and they're all still people who just they don't they don't realize that climate change is something they should be interested in and there are some people who simply deny that there's anything we can do about it anyway so they think that people are just making a fuss about nothing I mean what do you say to those people. I'd say the best thing you can do is do your research if you're not sure on something or so doubtful of something the best thing to do is always research this what you think you know you're going to find if it community are behind us on this yeah but you can do research and you can find people on the Internet and people on You Tube videos and like kind of stuff saying that climate change is just a natural phenomenon there's nothing we can do about it so it doesn't depend where you're actually getting your information from it doesn't dude but if we've got 98 percent of the scientific community backing us and the i.p.c.c. Reports I've been out now for a while people should be checking up on these things because they are quite serious what about the people that you kind of mix wave your family and your friends everyone else is passionate about it is you or is it a slow journey that people are gradually coming home. I found the people around me over the years I've always been quite passionate about this so I stood out initially but over the years the people around me have a coming more and more involved in this issue and also because of that I found more people who are very passionate about this issue like me and over the years more and more people have kind of joined the climate movement and become aware of this issue and it's of Iraqi or you know it's a little bit worried I wonder how you deal with that how old are you by the I guess . 18 I'm just an 85 So how do you respond then to the argument that some people put this is just such a middle class kind of issue I mean hey you all and I grew up went to school in hope and it's well behaved you are a kind of hope and in school girl talking about climate change and there will be people listening to this program who are struggling to pay their bills struggling to feed their families who said you know we're actually in the grand scheme of things this doesn't matter to me nearly as much as keeping my job feeding my children managing to get clothes for my children how do you respond to they say the suggestion that this is just a middle class problem. I would say the obviously the having the ability to protest in the way that we are doing it is a privilege and we are using that privilege to raise awareness for this issue without kind of naming names our country's leaders should be addressing climate crisis for what it is and what it is you can't address climate justice without also addressing social justice which is why a green new deal I'm not sure if you like know about that but why implementing a green new deal is really the most important thing and the most the best thing all government can do right now what do you mean by that what what is this deal so a greenie deal kind of a 10 year economic transformation in which our economy would be. Transitioned into a more sustainable economy we would invest in. Sustainable energy and sustainable kind of living. And give and it will provide lots of jobs for people in the sustainable energy sector particularly those who work in a high energy sector say because you have people working in coal mines and in nuclear and it's not their fault that climate change is happening we need to make them make sure that their lives are fulfilling and sustainable as well we need to make sustainability the easy option for everyone Ok really good talking to you thank you very much indeed Janice Jess's a student in Harvard amount Lehane is the former head teacher of Bedford free school Good morning to Mark Simone Jones morning so do you do you support the students who are protesting today. On the front of their own and in fact this is becoming a regular occurrence me coming on the show all talking to other journalists about this because when the 1st time that strike was held by u.k. Students back in March I said look it's not going to stop they're going to want to every month and I completely understand people's desire for a greener cleaner world and they claim a clean environment I think everybody wants that is important in democracy as we can to discuss and disagree about how we go about doing that but you know let's not let's not accept that people aren't taking it seriously though which I find a bit disappointing when the the climate struck is say that people are taking the issue seriously lot is being done a lot maybe not in our might but maybe not seriously enough I think one of the things that worries me and we just heard the young lady in question said that just now what a lot of these people want and they're not always honest about it is that young lady was which is they actually are talking about just having a cleaner greener lot I also fundamentally want to change the way society is organized and the kind of political side of things the social justice side of it you've got to do a lot of that if you're going to make the changes necessary happen here a lot of people want to run where the where the people want to realize that and phase out treat or not is the reality or we live in a democracy and it's really important that we allow people to make up their own mind and then affect that change through. Democratic mayor through the ballot box out we're going to the moment in the general election and a lot of the stuff that the economists strike is an extinction a 1000000000 people of that are saying there are no interest and I want to force people into things so listen I had to choose for 15 years I love the fact that young people are radicalized and excited and want to get involved in issues like this I just think they shouldn't be doing it in the school day cause we're so lucky to have this but I think we wouldn't be having the discussion now would Very well then that does perhaps why the broader question about the media being so easily led by young people to report on issues and maybe not getting down in some not being easily led it's about the fact that when Judge school students walk out of school to protest it then becomes a news story when something becomes newsworthy it is more likely to be included in radio programs and radio discussions like this. I completely agree and why I would be saying what I said to people in the past and I've spoken about issues like this is this is really important but what are you doing about the other really important issues there are that we now know that China for instance is running reeducation camps they call them but they've literally locked up hundreds of thousands of people and they're not let them out into the red 10 at least and there's you that for me is a really chilling immediate urgent if you're on Mars you're smart but we don't have very much power over what chart what happens in China but what we do have power over is what happens in our country and our own behavior in our own houses that our own behavior in terms of the vehicles that we use the holidays that we take in said Tra that's something that people in this country can actually change they can but we also have to want to talk about the environmental issue that any changes we make in this country now will be absolutely too often overwhelmed by what China is doing economically and environmentally you have to make a start somewhere Mark and you have to lead by example if we are we are Great Britain a many other countries look to us to follow our lead if we just say throw our hands up in Iran say oh well we can influence some of those bigger countries so let's just not even bother I mean what kind of example is that to set now I think we are seeing with the nation at a table a capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time and what I just and really interesting is lots of young kids are prepared to bunk off school to go on a protest as is their right but they should also then be prepared to take any sanction the school plays out on them but at the same time I hear really I have a big empty sound as to what they're doing but other urgent issues are going on right now which says to me that some of the people involved in this movement are more interested in stuff that they're interested in and that the other big issues they don't really want to grab which are tricky and which are complicated Now listen young people they receive an awful lot of information and education at school that environmental issues about what they can do to have a 175 days a year where they're not in school where they could be actively doing. Going to change stuff I normally just encourage children and their families to engage in issues in that way round and walking around school once a month because again you've got a question what the impact about is not just on on the issues but also every time they disrupt in school it's not just their own learning that's disrupted and got to think about their own pattern of people around them and it will be disrupting the school day and the classes on the lessons that teachers were loaded and so on and so on why don't I just beckon something about them in tax and others are all right Mark thank you very much indeed for your time Mark Levine is the former head teacher of Bedford free school I also need to make you aware of the fact that Kemal is the conservative perspective parliamentary candidate for Newcastle upon Tyne north a full list of candidates are available on the B.B.C.'s website Well we're talking about these students who are walking out of school today in protest against a lack of action on climate change to support them to support what they are doing. One double. In Simi Valley late 1. 8. Football on b.b.c. 3 counties radio this Saturday there's an extended 3 county schools from 2 o'clock blue to Bradford in the Championship Collins atomically for the penalty area Brown plays it into words coming. Out and then from $530.00 it's what for that Southampton in the Premier League with a set age around it's the penalty looked upon you to get it back off and still close the ball it was like a cradle back. Up on Draco. Telephone trust cry a little but kill it post 3 counties sports the Saturday from to b.b.c. 3 counties radio. it's Friday. It's the j.b.s. Show I'm Jonathan Vernon slaves coming up at 11 I'll deal with your consumer problems but 1st we've been talking about the students who are walking out of school in protest against a lack of action on climate change do you support them or not I write a write one. For your b.b.c. 3 counties radio that starts in box travel. To North bound Johnson is really slow up towards junction 11 something going on just so flicking through the camera see if I can see anything I think the motor at Yeah the motorways blocks I'd say midway between 10 and 11 that's loosened up to you at Dunstable of 40 or so many cameras on that small Most way to get access to I can actually find the one where there was also the blockage to see exactly what is happening but I can see an empty motorway north of midway between junctions $10.11 all find out what's going on there as a result of the a 5 much music than usual along the lines for bypass and then on through ha cliff up through the double lights there are only a 5 boarding the m one and it's really slow on the northbound and one between Milton Keynes and more times in junctions 14 to 15 that's because of the crush blocking off 2 lanes and there are delays of around well an hour ago saying it's taking to get through that queue now. So keep an eye on that as well on the trains a good service shows what he b.b.c. 3 counties radio costs and Scott's inbox pretty outraged. With the headlines I'm sorry and Oxley the conservatives have complained to the media regulator Ofcom after Channel 4 used an ice sculpture to represent Boris Johnson during a debate on climate change last night Mr Johnston been invited on to the program but chose not to appear he's also yet to confirm Haiti like other party leaders will agree to be interviewed by the B.B.C.'s Andrew nail head of the election people living on. Fulla Slade in Milton Keynes are voting today on tomorrow on the future regeneration of the estate in follows a similar vote on the lakes estate but initial plans involving many other states have been scaled down major construction work begins the c evening putting a bridge over airport way in Luton for the new dart transit system connecting the airport to Luton Parkway station the road will be closed from 8 o'clock this evening until early Monday morning and in sport tonight Emery is been sacked as Arsenal manager after 18 months in charge Arsenal lost in the Europa League last night meaning they're now 7 games without a win their worst run of form for 27 years the weather dry and sunny a maximum temperature 7 degrees Celsius those are the headlines the next full bulletin is at 11 Jonathan Mann and some in the city's b.b.c. 3 counties media it says station that beds hearts and barks Yes good morning still to come do you think trying to Marlon our zones are a good idea or not I'll take your reaction to that then it 11 I'll deal with your consumer problems but 1st do you support the children walking out of school in protest against a lack of action on climate change young people in more than 100 towns and cities in the u.k. Have walked out of school today to highlight climate change and locally it's happening in Bedford beckons field Harpenden Hartford High Wycombe central bonds and Stephen age well we have discussed this before and I know many of you voice your concerns and said This is ridiculous you shouldn't Mile children to walk out of school to interrupt their own education but we've heard some of those some of those youngsters already on this program they're very passionate about this and maybe there is an argument that if they weren't making this kind of protest we wouldn't be discussing it now and we wouldn't people wouldn't potentially be thinking as to whether or not climate change is something they care about. Does that mean you do support the protest or not ban in Aylesbury Hello ban warnings out of morning ban what about you do you support these protesters Absolutely no I think the mark down as an authorized absence is that parents should be fine allow the children to bunk up the scope of the day. Right and I did why don't you try and read it was quite shocking really listen to that young lady you had on from hope and then I think he went to Europe Sco Yeah she's going to be a robber intelligent very articulate. And then she's going on about 98 percent of all scientists support. If you keep saying the same thing it doesn't make it true we know the tooth fairy doesn't exist but paper been talking about 2 very hundreds of years now yes but most sensible people except the climate change doesn't exist among Senate so we're talking about 2 completely different things sensible people most sensible people accept the climate change is something that we have impacted you know that I know that I don't yes I do yes I generally if you research this information is if you if you pay in a parrot fashion this and if you take any notice of the i.p.c.c. Reports You can either yeah you can either accept that or you can dismiss it but what makes you think you know immediately it might show you anything you know better than with a scientists that have been polishing that replacing the face of the i.p.c.c. Report is not actually made up by a governing body of scientists it's made up by parliamentary good grapes is made up by people with political agendas I say now so you just dismiss all right 9999 not right 97 percent of all scientists agree with climate change man my climate change that's wrong 100 percent of scientists have never even been asked this question what the i.p.c.c. It was take a load of scientific papers on climate change and then they decided from these climate change type those that 97 percent of the all agree that there is a climate change problem Ok would you like to hear someone would you like to hear someone that might disagree with you. All right Donna come a call it is a spokesperson for us well sorry. You're eco terrorist attack on us by an odd. To object Thank you appreciate you calling me an in-car terrorist Well let him respond to you Donna kamikazes a spokesperson for extinction rebellion Good morning she Donica Good morning Jonathan how are you do you want to just respond 1st of all to brain referring to her as an eco terrorist. Name calling is that is beside the point I think we need to focus on the facts the fact is that every single scientific body all towards a ruling body in the world has ruled that climate change is happy and humanity is contributing to it there is a massive. Propaganda campaign all funded by the old corporations that's actually one staple to say things like the gentleman has just set however this week the world met Micho logical society which governs all of the the weather science bodies in the world has issued an alarm call to the world stating that we are already passing the irreversible tipping point which means that we could be facing runaway climate change and the end of our civilization so I don't agree you got a no I just buy that only 37 percent of scientists have never actually begun all that or you know that's what I'm saying is that my marriage is the main thing I know but if you're going to ask you a question let him respond just don't jump straight down his throat before he's even got a word out thanks thank you what I'm saying is that every single scientists take governing body in the world which represents the world's scientists endorse the scientists make research that says climate change is running away and what we need to be doing instead of having this debate about whether to are not happy because I would settle 20 years ago is what do we do guys and that's why the kids are on the straight they're demanding action because action isn't being taken and I totally endorse his kids because they're marching for the future for their lives and their kids and huge respect for what they're doing. But you had a living out protesting and causing all these climate change process bring in say is dishpans there or whatever this is how many it might kill me and they excuse me your experience in life I've just met you for the 1st time how can you have no idea how I make my life think I don't take a 10 year after protesting cost me a fortune I have devoted my life for 30 years to tackling these crises because I think that the horrendous death rate that's already happening the u.n. The United Nations said 400000 people are trying every year already and I passionately believe that we as humans we must do something to stop that and to protect future generations a report from the u.n. Last month said that 3 and a half 1000000 people in Britain would be facing flooding every year by 2050 that's in 20 years' time do we have a right to say to our kids yeah we want to have our flights we want our nice homes we Nice want our nice holidays and you can be flooded I don't believe that's a moral and ethical thing to do and so on patriotic Sir Guy about the Obama as just was it $12000000.00 on the say front property say on Martha's Vineyard which according to all these things that you Kate spouting on about office when you are going to be under the same in how 10 years various Just spend $12000000.00 a day is Monday of property isn't going to exist. Well cycle through it's priced in China I'm talking about science here Tom but a politician I'm actually told me that we have had a station here that used the base the president of the United States of America a person who is builded on all the information that he needs to know to do its job and yet he's just spent $12000000.00 which isn't paid not by anybody's standards but we billionaires with $12000000.00 just a lot of money wanting spend this money on of say on a safe from property which is going to be underwater in a few years time well I would like I say Look at Britain we are building thousands of homes on flood plains knowing that they already will be cited regularly and yet the politicians are going hadn't billions of pounds in new housing in Britain and there is I will be flooded policy does not apply and so I really know enough about rods on the street. There's lots of politicians you know every year I can say but I think the argument Ben is trying to make don't occur is that if anybody would be aware of the effects of climate change it would be someone like President Obama so why on earth would he go ahead and spend the same money buying a house somewhere that he's likely to be underwater the poor unsuspecting people who buy houses on flood plains they don't realize what they're doing I agree and I wish the that the Environment Agency was able to statutorily prevent councils and politicians and Britain from building homes on those planes but they with your point about Obama I don't know the particular layer of the geography or Martha's Vineyard so I don't know what timescale it is likely to be flooded could be flooded by 2100 but which time Obama would be dead for 50 years so I don't know the take a 2nd on that what I do know is that Lagos is already flooding I know like Miami is already facing flooding and I know that the capital of the Philippines Manila they're already planning to they've already decided they are moving their capital city inland because of the rising sea levels this is happening now and we need to take action to roll them discussing whether tis or not that's stuff that they've got what we need to discuss is what can we do and how fast can we do and that's why we need the kids on the street because our government is allowing facilitating divestment of hundreds of billions of pounds in new fossil fuels which is soaring always on the fire of these kids' futures and that's what the content of all that my opinion is your view been that we just shouldn't bother doing anything I don't actually but a man is capable of destroying this planet and the why that everybody is claiming that we are destroying if you look at the fact that it wants your degree just out of interest for children. To graze in life while I look upon the fact that it's quite common knowledge so you don't have any kind of sawn to fit qualifications that this plan there has been going for stories the answer to that is now you don't have any scientific qualification while speculative anything else. But he qualified a lot about kind of can I just can I not just explain why can't I just explain why because contrary to the belief of some people who seem to think they not see everything about stuff they've never even investigational studied in the same way that if I was feeding very unwell I would go and seek the expertise of a doctor who has spent years studying medicine and I would put my faith in that person and their expertise I wouldn't ever for one minute suggest that I'm an expert on climate change but I am prepared to listen to those who have studied science son who all in a position of knowledge telling us that in fact climate change is real and he something that we are affecting and we need to do something about it I find this this kind of mentality now that we have in this country where we just dismiss people with more knowledge than OS as people who are FIA mongers and we all think we know better than everyone else off on a cross astonishing Well the climate is changing there's no there's no to no in the Climate Change of in the climate been changing for out the entire It won't give you the right to think you know that we are not impacting that and and cannot do anything about it there are plenty of scientific but it is a respectable opponent this time and there are plenty of scientists but is that their scientific paper right into the un and right like oh my care about no I haven't got the things the more took my fingers the pockets of a complete rock to probably pull up some names here but anybody can go on the into I could I could go on the Internet now and tell you the name of some quack in the other side of the world who says he's invented the cure for cancer doesn't just as you can find some straw you didn't buy in that man is not responsible for this climate change when you got this I think he thinks they know lair activist is one of them a green peace activist I actually wrote the 2007 report that everybody take bring enough about us. This was read by Greenpeace activists as well as so some scientists but going face back to base but the synopsis to get underway in front of the government all day is done a senator. Things on a governmental management order can look on the information you know Donna car now I know you want to I don't know you want to interrupt and I think I think the whole Bain talks the more revealing of days. I just think that we're spending probably 510 minutes on somebody who is supposing a huge amount of sound scientific. Conspiracy theory. But only don't occur whether you whether you like it whether I like it people like Ben exist I agree but it is not better to challenge people and to change people's minds rather than just to close down the debate but this debate has been going on for 20 years and that means we never debate what we can do to solve the crisis and so the but that's one that is going up in smoke cause we're having this debate and I thought the b.b.c. Had made a clear decision 2 years ago that the debate was finished and we need now to be debating which is what does lots of really don't occur to you you're absolutely right you're absolutely right however if we if you are going to bring people on the journey with you. If we are all going to bring people on the journey of understanding climate change and understanding the importance of it you can't bring people with you if you just simply close them down and don't enter into any kind of discussions toll I mean but been in my in my opinion listening to you talking you you're not qualify you found stuff from people written only in a fixation just on a kid got involved in all of this is he got the grace and doctorates involved in all this or is he just in the so I know he's read your client on star when I've read I studied Not if I was in by I studied not an $8.00 in physics chemistry to the level in the National University of Maryland and I've been involved in climate professional climate adviser and consultant for 30 years and I've written 2 books on how to green businesses and how to green homes I think that gives me around 30 years of knowledge and study and scientific background to be. They can hear today what's black and if you got. Very little involved in scientific banks why on earth should any of us listen to a word you are saying Ben you isn't it true that you just don't know what you're talking about. Never quite can spin it up you really there are 2 sides to every argument now but yeah but there are 2 sides to every argument however not all sides and based on fact there's plenty of information out there and if you look for the information you 1st of all the information out there which is easily researchable what polls apart that say files in 7 I think things they climate change brain I can go I can come online on a come find some Dr in Timbuktu telling me that they've invented the cure for cancer and you just take a pail and you cancel go it doesn't mean it's real There's all kinds of mean it's true that doesn't mean that you call it fact check the fact they know a lot of they don't think she's already had brain surgery 1st it wants pretty frustrating what's really frustrating Benny's that you you seem to have spent all this time and effort looking up or trying to find people on the Internet to back up your conspiracy theory so that you them feel empowered to phone in to a program like this today and to run down kids who may well be much better informed than you on the subject you have a phone but that the information on one side of the story where are you getting your information from you haven't managed to cite a single source yet. Boy I was in a lower Eoghan all sat there with. Us So here was a lorry drawing us a lorry let's just break this down us a lorry driver who has no degree or qualification in science geography or anything else you've cold Aintree a programme on climate change to coal someone like Donna Co with 30 years of experience in climate change who has a qualification in science at degree level to call him and an environmental terrorist on qualified as a mechanical engineer and I choose to actually drive the car and if my lorry broke down you'd be the 1st person I'd come to for advice but if I was going to seek some advice on climate change forgive me I might be more likely to go to donate to the new but the study of the fact that I'm a mechanical engineer by qualifications in a ritual try to eat then that bowl that does get me some sort of ability to do my own race until my cup my mind you but you may well be doing research in the wrong place you might well be getting information in the wrong place and then by phoning into a program like this and talking so confidently and and at times very robustly this morning you may well be persuading all the people that you know what you're talking about when in fact you probably don't. Convince that I think they don't know what I'm talking about and then they're told I can go off and do the ciphering I know and I don't mind Yes Tanika Yeah I mean you know Ben aside these companies are perceived to make his point but I think it's very clear he's repeating huge amount of conspiracy theories we had 5 political leaders on the telly last night talking about what we need to get about climate change and the fact is is that what we need becoming It's like solutions that we have we have a situation where our meat industry our aviation industry our car industry and consumerism is actually destroying the future for our civilization so what are we going to get to a situation where the axe needed. It's going to take place I would argue we need to kids protesting on the streets calling on our government the national government unity like we had in the 2nd world war to make the changes necessary because this week's report by the Potsdam Institute has said we have run out of time for 20 years I've been sitting here trying my best campaigning and working to tackle these enormous problems and we were saying that if we don't take action 10 years ago we may face tipping point but make this irreversible I am horrified that this week the pasta Institute says those tipping points are now happening or that means that this may now be irreversible we're in the last chance saloon this is the climate election if those kids message is not heard by our sidles when we go to vote next week we can kiss their futures goodbye That's how serious it is. There will be people though listening to this program like pain who will simply say they just can't buy into what you're saying they will feel it is fear mongering a scam of growing. Jonathan that anybody who could play who if you're sound an alarm in a burning building there will be some people who won't believe it they'll believe it so if it's not already it's a false alarm and they want to run out. We are the alarm the blunders on fire there will always be millions of people across the planet who won't listen to the alarm we are appealing to the people can lead who are who are open to logic and science to hear the alarm and to run out of the building and put out the fire that's the situation and there will always be people like that he's entitled to his opinion is not entitled to let Britain burn. Ok thank you very much indeed stomacher McCarthy a spokesperson for extinction rebellion thank you to ban in Aylesbury as well Jeff in High Wycombe Hello Jody Good morning Jonathan morning what would you like to say then do you support these kids who are protesting today 100 percent I mean fantastic the great future we have ahead of us these children who are really taking things seriously and being passionate about enough to go out there make a difference so it's just absolutely inspiring to have a day say fantastic to each and every one of the and leading the way in educating people who. See the information that is by the. Do you think the public opinion is changing on climate change do you think more and more people are starting to do their research and are looking and getting their information and and are saying you know I am now concerned about this and I do think we need to do something about. Social social I mean I run a nappy library when we started 4 years ago we weren't seeing people joining us as much as we are now now I'm ordering more stock and also the more the cost that these are available are struggling to even keep up with demand because everybody is making a huge change all at the same time and I way to think it's our acts on these men's and these children going out to make sure that it's news worthy as you mentioned. And that is what makes me different that's what. People may be excited talking about even if Jensen might not leave the school less right where he got his name the band would break. Even his place saying no this isn't happening and taking the stance of that you think is a new way is crazy. That is getting people talking so in some ways we do need people not to leave because that's what keeps the news that we're not talking about . Yes I mean I but I believe that people like Ben deserve to be heard I also believe people like Ben deserve to be robustly challenge to and not left on a radio program such as days to come across to some people as if he knows what he's talking about thank you very much indeed Jody for your time and Ian hall pened And good morning to you and day. How to listen good morning what would you not say you support the protesters apparently said the protests are happening in hope and and today. Well or don't support the premise of. Climate change being a big problem let me say that strike a why I was always just I'm a bit concerned that children go leaving the school to Mike the protest I mean is it possible for them to do it on a Saturday or Sunday Well you know but we wouldn't but we wouldn't be talking about it would Ray. Well I don't know I mean we've got to know I'm telling him telling us if the story but I'm telling you now if the story was told I did children from hope and staging a protest outside the school on a Saturday morning we would not be having this discussion now because who would care so Saturday morning well we were in that process before and Saturdays and Sundays they received a lot of puppets you were yes so you know when when when when you know a 1000000 people take to the streets of London then becomes very news where they just. To help and in school kids standing outside school when it's not so school days not particularly nice where they is a. Well that depends on the news. Although I didn't know all well oh you're telling your one person well I know I'd like to know what I'm talking about when it comes to news and media radio programs and discussion programs all the time that you're not really sure what you for there's but the other thing is playing a red ball forward to taking their children to school when they have talked about holiday and you know the double standard that says we're not only sort of 2nd year . But I 2nd you don't know that many of those parents won't be falling for their children protesting today oh well we don't know so you don't want. Well now you've got all that's true you know using it as an argument as if to suggest that it's already a done deal that all of the children's parents will get up fine so it's kind of hypocrisy when we don't actually know that do weigh Well I think it will be a book to say because the school was only looks like most of the schools you know left the show so it was kind of like what's this got to do with being lefty sure right sure and I think surely this is about and you've already expected in this conversation Andy. Climate change is a reality climate change is getting very serious and to be honest you've got to be a bit of a nincompoop to not see in our own country what people have gone through very recently in terms of the flooding can. Start reversing if are you going to crash but you know they are. Clearly the simple fact is that people who are waking up to it and a paying attention shouldn't these people be praised shouldn't everybody who is starting to realize this is a real thing and it needs to be addressed shouldn't we be celebrating that realisation rather than suggesting these kids are wrong for for actually raising our awareness Well I think you were a bunch of kids so your school so I schooled would. Make any difference to what is happening in the world how long if we discuss climate change for in this hour long go of course about 55 minutes you know what why have we discussed climate change for 55 minutes well because it's a big ace is not because children are so old school although you know it is illegal I'm telling you now the reason we are discussing I honestly I can promise you this because I was involved in the discussions we had yesterday afternoon as to what we would be discussing at 10 o'clock on my program the reason we are discussing it is because hundreds of children are walking out of schools all across beds hotbox today but the reason we discussed it for 55 minutes. Yeah you see this is a also said before 2 year extension rebellion a quite clever always put for you Paul well to limit this are you but we're going to all that come like they have their problem because they know they won't be criticized Ok All right thank you very much indeed and hey if you follow that logic coming up in the next hour the final hour of the j.v.
