C.b.s. News. Well as time for us to join Mark Riley who is waiting for us in New York City hello Mark right how are you good faith good and I hope that you're all primed for Halloween knowing what a big thing it is for a lot of people oh yeah in New York it's crazy the Village Halloween parade is a venerable institution in this city and people I mean it's coming up on Thursday of course but I had to mention it in things that are going on in New York this week . And it's it's. It must be for a extravaganza I remember how even the Castro in San Francisco and that was that was a trip even said 2025 years ago something like that that well yeah I had enormous amount of fun it's very Yanks traffic and thing yeah definitely and you know New Yorkers tend to celebrate Halloween a bit early I was down in the East Village in lower Manhattan Saturday night and the streets were full of people and Constance I was like whoa I do you know I don't dress for Halloween I'm a little old for that but I was just stunned at the numbers of people who were in some instances what do they call it queued up in front of different beast rows in clubs and most of the people were dressed up they had costumes on I thought it was comic con or something it was unbelievable. What else is going on that we might like if we should chance to be in New York this Friday night. For all the women who thought they were mad opens tonight at the Soho Rep and immersive art show now you're not going to believe this ride and immersive art show focuses on the smells of Bushwick and elsewhere and that Brooklyn neighborhood elsewhere is a pretty well known club in Brooklyn and I don't know how they're doing it but they have captured the essence of Bushwick and you can actually go and see artwork and smell Bushwick. But if you're in Bushwick just walking you smell it all the time you smell it anyway yeah yeah yeah but I guess the biggest tourists will come they much too. Well I know that you've chosen. A nice guest for us and the sorry maybe we want to introduce it before we carry on Oh absolutely he is the venerable Washington bureau chief of The Nation magazine and I know Raj you know him well as do I a brilliant man and a great analyst His name is Mr John Nichols John how you doing brother well I am very well my brothers and I must tell you that we're talking from Madison Wisconsin where we have one of the biggest hollowing parades in the country really huge event yeah it's on the weekend Madison's a college town and going back about 30 years Madison has been the place of incoming for colleges all over the Midwest they've got to go someplace to have one giant blowout party and so they take like a 10 block street clothes it all off put rock stages deejays you know everything imaginable up and down the street and on a good night if it doesn't snow they can get 3040000 people up but you do realize this is the upper Midwest so Oh yes no I mean 30000 Yeah I mean that what is that about 40 percent of Madison's population it's up there it's competitive. And and it's a wild event because I will just tell you that what you've seen in the Castro and what you've seen in the village. Madison makes its effort to compete. You know one things that I'm sorry right now I'm just going to say allow you to you 1st you 1st guess one I've been to Madison a few times in a beautiful city but the one thing that struck me about medicine more than anything else when I've been there is the incredible number of people who write bicycles I went in front of went past the bicycle store and it looked like you know like Macy's would put his bike sitting out in front I had never seen that many bikes at a store before in my life and people in Madison take it very seriously no John Oh yeah we have bicycle we have bike shops along bike trails they don't even front out at the street they front out of the trail it's a it's a city that's obsessed with biking as many cities are becoming you know it's true you know to now it's true of New York increasingly But the thing about Madison is that nothing stops them and so we have a tremendous number of winter bikers and these are people who outfit their bike with 3 inch wide wheels these are wheels you know they almost like a small car wheel and yeah you will see these people going through snowdrifts. So it's a hearty this is a hearty bunch here. For sure I say it. My goodness why Well listen John it's so great to have you along and we hope you'll just going to try have another if your time as to Precious Well I know it's a Christmas but if your time isn't pressing. Maybe you'll stay with us for a while it would mean I'm honored to be with you both a priest both of the a lot of Mark show more than once I got us well let me just share a cruel irony where he was as he as you know and as everyone listening to this knows. I'm broadcasting from places not very far away from Salem Massachusetts and 61002 Salem was the scene of the Witch Trials which means every Tobar Salem goes absolutely party for for Halloween and people come in from all over and they dress up as witches and they talk to people who possum sells off as witches and it all gets a bit I would have had the traffic is absolutely terrible and I happened to notice on a local television station tonight that trick or treating in Salem has been cancelled I'm not kidding in sale was cancelled this is big I don't know maybe I just maybe I just passed by the set and I got the wrong sailor maybe it was Sailor not I saw that I saw the Lord was but the reason this raid. No training so you can't go trick or treating I had I'd have no idea if this is for real these people these people terrorized witches and they can't handle rain thank you I'm not afraid exactly you would think they could cost a few spells and everything would be justified and I there's another thing yeah yeah I'm sure you would think so hopping mad you know I'm shocked us I know I can tell you. Madison Wisconsin has predictions for snow on Thursday and I have heard literally snow there are serious no predictions and I have heard no talk of canceling. Out pretty can handle snow. Ice just any one of the many people are going to take any notice of that. But there's a kind of a hollow. Story happening. In your neck of the wood Mark tell us a little bit about the stairs the famous infamous stayers the Joker stairs there's your cool in that I haven't seen this movie the Joker but it's no longer telling so nominate Yeah yeah I've seen stills of it and there Joker stairs I forgot exactly where it is it's in the Bronx I know that and I think it's somewhere around 167th Street and it's become this social media phenomenon which means it's completely lost on me because I don't do that much social media but residents are kind of expressing. A complicated series of emotions some of them are angry some of them are amused some are exhausted. It appears as though. Tourists are coming to the Bronx and that's a good thing actually but sources coming to the Bronx and taking Instagram photographs and videos etc of these jokers stairs and local residents have taken the saying well you know if you going to come and do not you might as well leave a little money with us while you're here and yeah they said this one. Show that's on Showtime called Jesus and Meryl. They said that. Legally as a Bronx resident you're allowed to curse attacked anyone visiting the Joker stance that shows you how busy it's gotten over a relatively short period of time I don't even know how long the movie's been out I haven't been a movie goer in awhile of because I've always ended up being disappointed but I've heard a lot of things about this joker movie but it's become the you know the staircase has become iconic on social media and it's amazing to see. Iran has died of strikes poses these stayers for anybody listening in Edinburgh are about as long as the Scotsman stayers they are incredibly long stairs between 2 buildings at the time when they they perform a good function in the film because 1st of all they show us her beat and the characters and then when he realizes that he can achieve so much and I'm only giving a psycho I know what ticked you of the film but when he can achieve so much as the Joker and he's all dressed up then it has a glorious well as a very strange sort of and it's all dancing isn't it it's sounding Yeah yeah and people have I think the New York Times and other publications have you know since the release of the film done kind of analyses of the film as something else altogether not the initial The tense and not the initial ideas of the film but as a film that has some of the most distinctive urban dancing are there is much talk about so it has it has become a phenomenon and these steps have become a big deal and I think Mark will confirm to me that in the Bronx when I was a kid I used to spend quite a bit of time in the South Bronx and I was fascinated by people who would sometimes set up on their on their stupor there their building. A number of bottles and some glasses and even perhaps serve a cocktail. Oh yeah I was that a time honored tradition Yeah it's like it's like the icy people during the summer you know people have these small carts and they walk around certain neighborhoods and they say oh what are called i.c.c. It's like a lemon ice and that cocktail thing a few years ago that was I can't remember the name of the cocktail but there was one that was extremely popular and it was very cheap to make so there were people all over the Bronx that were doing this but what's interesting about these joggers there is is that now the famed congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has weighed in because she grew up of course in the Bronx and she's I think she was just having a goof but she said that she used to avoid staircases like that but she said Look keep your Instagram posts outside of the body down and who. Well I've to tell you it's under a cusser court this I mean I think it's fair to say Mark you know I've analyzed American politics over the years oh yeah it's very competitive for the coolest politician this is not id However this is just she is on it she's on top of everything they try to make fun of her wants for they found some old college video of her dancing rants and yeah and they try to make you know Republicans still like her so much they try to mock or and so she put up a video of her dancing out of office on Capitol Hill. And so you know she's on top of it you know she should be a bartender at one time and recently she actually went to the same bar that she used to work and started serving drinks you know she's a woman is not able What are you going to do. She's also you'd have to say John she's endorsed baronies Saunders a subject of endless gossip about whether or not he might choose her if he was ever to win the presidential nomination whether you would choose you can't he can't be too young we're going to last is not started 5 can you know believe that here's this woman who has become literally the face of the left. Along with Sanders there's no question of that but this incredibly significant political player more well regarded by people who agree with her much disdain even by the president of the United States but a major figure the one thing she can't do is be vice president or president because back in 1787 they wrote a law that said you had to be 35. She got to wait a while. You know hey can I tell you what there's a fact I figured out a while ago just for you know when she was when she was 1st elected I was calculating it out she could wait 50 years. Before running for president and be Bernie Sanders the sage yeah yeah if you think about it yeah cause was she 29 now and very early I think she just turned Yeah 37 you know 787 I mean it's roughly but it's about she's she's got about 50 years. And she'd still be you know kind of in the Biden Sanders each range. But they say their vote to all that on a I'm not as I get up in years I'm not sure that that's actually the case but hey Well I think I you know having worked with Rod I don't think anybody is too old for anything yes I know thank you very much for that right now and thank you smoothly but. There is no lovely lovely story here and it's a serious story too if you live in New York or and then the other big city about how badly all the delivery trucks are tying up the Chofetz and what's being done to try to manage the segments sourced for packages. Well not enough long story short not enough there are a 1000000 and a half packages a day deliberate in New York City many of them in Manhattan as more and more people end up deciding to avoid brick and mortar stores which is why many department stores in New York are not doing that well and they depend on Amazon a u.p.s. Or whoever to deliver their goods they really the city wasn't built to accommodate these delivery trucks and what happens is they get on a one way street someplace and a u.p.s. Truck which is fairly large ends up blocking a lane of traffic and people have to squeeze to one side and it's just created this whole nightmare now technically speaking. These trucks get ticketed for you know parking double parking or whatever to the tune of 471000 parking violations last year that's a 34 percent increase from 6 years ago that's incredible to contemplate and you know there's kind of nibbling at this point right around the edges and John it's like you know well we're trying to do this we're trying to make you know. Trying to make loading zone so people come in and out the problem with that is once a truck buy or a delivery truck finds a legitimate parking space they stay there forever they don't go anyplace and it's gotten to the point that many of these delivery services end up spreading like tarps on the on the sidewalk and just piling the boxes there and of course many of the apartment houses where these boxes end up going don't really have the infrastructure to accommodate all and sometimes they end up leaving them on the floor sometimes they end up having you know doorman Guard you know lock cages and they send e-mails to the tenants it's become a whole mess but the major problem and particularly when you talk about the attempts at regulation of or and lift in New York. Because of the pollution they cause now you know the baleful eye the city is starting to look at all these delivery trucks and saying wait a minute maybe you are in a lift and not the whole problem here there are a number of proposal Lucian's the best of which as far as I'm concerned is the use of some sort of electric transportation vehicle and they're also moving many of the last delivery situations where you know you go that last mile to get to the consumer they're moving them closer to neighborhoods so. In theory doesn't end up in situations where you end up with trucks as much on the street but this is a you know trying to deal with this is right now in its infant infancy because this is blown up over the last 5 or 6 years. Isn't sorry I I wonder if you both hire and for us or who are you busy John that is silly question. To Well John as always I know a little presidential race and some a peach from it but I think I get some time well I would be wonderful Well stay with us we're going to take a little side trip know to Minute Maid stadium just find out what's happening in the say latest and possibly the last game of the World Series here Seth Bennett Seth what's the news. What a comeback from Washington last time we spoke there trying to move on to use an Astros remember the Astros lead the series 32 victories a night for them and see them win the World Series title while Washington blasted back against Justin Verlander with 2 how roads and bridges pass in the 5th inning Adam each of us and then it was once out of his good home grown all the World Series he looked to spike the ball over the wall he sends a very long way to be on that is the difference between the 2 sides is right now Washington trying to turn to get the guy you know they don't quite get the look like unique or l.b. Sent out for the Houston Astros it was a close will almost a brand of fools he had it but it means that his being chased from the gang following knows how Romans and it means as well despite being one of the best pitchers of the last decade he's still yet to get a World Series when he's right in fact he would say could be beat unless his teammates can bail him out here he's going to fight defeats on the way the softball World Series like and Washington just look to be a lot growing into the task they look like they fancy getting 7 with a 3 to lead a couple of signs of got themselves out of trouble and they've got the starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg to thank for that and they're looking at all the say too loudly but a look at all right at the moment. Freedom so to all were in the bottom of the 6. Or 8 so that it will be back later on thank you so much too. On digital b.b.c. Sounds smart Spiegelman this is b.b.c. Radio 5 Live it with b.b.c. Small success this is b.b.c. Radio 5 Live on the b.b.c. Sounds cool night with rock shop right and we're back with Mark Riley in New York with with John Nichols in Madison Wisconsin I'm the new guest sitting there in the studio with Mark hello Mark yes Ragnarok this gentleman I've known for God has been what do you long time he's a d.j. He's actually played Ministry of Sound over in the u.k. He started as a security consultant at the fabled Paradise Garage here in New York City he eventually ended up playing music at the Paradise Rashi is now along with David De Pino the proprietor of the Paradise Garage reunion parties which take place once a year and draw something on the order of 2000 people to come out and dance to remember a club by the way that closed in 1970 and his name is Joe Young girls. A lot of this Lou I guess you know this is not the 1st time Marc has mentioned your legendary Paradise was reunion party sees he's frequently threatened to take us all but you know. Let me tell you right just as a quick aside they did a party on a city block on King Street which was the site of the old garage which is now turned into a condo. And they gave a huge party Red Bull gave this party 22000 people showed up and 5000 were turned away they couldn't fit them on the block and it was an incredible incredible afternoon of music and dancing and reminiscing it was just it was just fantastic took my breath away. Joy I want you to meet our friend John Nichols I'm fully expecting John to say That's nothing in Madison Wisconsin. That every weekend . Yeah we try but can I just say to Joey even in Madison we respect Curtis crush. I think you know and we know him we know what the influence it had. I'm a huge fan of Man Well God Ching the German. Who are which is. He will always say it was Paradise Garage that really broke him internationally so you're the big guys and that's what we opened diploidy the black body with yeah Was he too easy too which last one well we don't play half hour it's not it's an hour and yeah that's right it is a full hour long but you know Joey and I both have history in medicine because at one time we both marched in drum and bugle corps and Madison has a very I don't know from corps called Madison Scouts and you know they used to have the championships in the eighty's and early ninety's Davidson Yeah Kamerad yeah oh yeah we had we had a lot of fun back then and we some of that we can't talk too much about because we're not sure about the statute of limitations. But we did have a good time that's for sure and I just saw as we're going to do jump here and we'll see if this yours. Because you know what they try to talk a lot of different stuff in jury's going to tell some very cool things but we do a little politics on the show and can I tell you one of the most fascinating things going on that we'll see it this weekend in Iowa they have a huge event where all the Democratic presidential candidates will be speaking at a big dinner in Iowa and Kamel Harris the senator from California has taken to coming into these big events which are usually you know nobody knows how to walk in they walk in with some supporters a science she has taken to come in with a drum line really. You know it's fantastic you know I mean and I'm now did you mention to John I have to check that out see if they can actually draw him. But I hope that you would be the judge of that. No one Joe you let me tell you about Joey Joey when he 1st joined a corps I was a member he joined just before the start of a drum corps season like 2 weeks before the start of season nobody in their right mind thought he would be able to go out in the 1st contest because you know his drumming is extremely intricate it takes a lot of timing and nobody thought he would do it and yet there he was at the 1st show of the season in the line play. You did play to yeah he played and we won yeah and we won drums 8 years a matter. These drums that you can either a lot types like like the drums that you see in Highland pipe by the heavy drums and you got a great big. Frame that you put over your chest which you know must be must be tough for the sort of 14 year old girls you know who joined their their high school . 16 year old for that matter Yeah no I carried one and I carried a marching tempi. And must await about 3540 pounds and you're right right it's a frame and it hangs you know it hangs and you kind of it has the drum itself has hooks and you put the hooks on the frame but my back is still bent to this day on account. Joey Have you seen the new David Byrne show. No I haven't I'm sorry I'm not hearing about it I want to go with and yeah he's got people with drive there where in. The drums and they're dance an early stage they have no set instruments from what I understand I saw a preview for it when he was out on tour they all they like come in from the side constantly marchin with all their drums even the keyboard player has a keyboard that he wears you know rather than having a set instruments fascinating show oh you know I don't know you know I went to see it. Oh yeah and I went to see it in Boston it was previewing in Boston and it was an extraordinary show I am the idea that didn't go and see it by the way but. I said Really I knew all about it too this is a show called Utopia which they would burn us no producing on Broadway and it's doing incredibly well because of the energy of the show the fact promptly that they've It burns voice hasn't changed at all since he was with no talking heads in the eighty's and he's still still projecting this wonderful energy but it's very simple you know it's 11 of them in grey suits. Marching in and dancing very intricate dance steps on the stage bare feet and it has the whole audience going it's that it's it's sad to see the ultimate and sort of feel good sure as I mention this for anyone who might be thinking about a little shopping trip to New York ahead of Christmas you should try more of this one and if you can possibly have I know how expensive tickets. But you know what though and this is another thing way to bring this full circle David Byrne when he was just 1st in New York after I think he went to the Rhode Island School of Design I think most of the members of the talking heads did well he did on they did yeah he played on the song that became a club classic call kiss me again by a group called dinosaur and at that time this is like 197770 nobody knew we was and it wasn't until much later and I was looking at some liner notes of some David Byrne played on that. It was a very big one record. You know they that was the one thing about Byrne was that he recognized what was possible you know you sickly taken in places that hadn't gone and he is still doing that the other thing if we're going to play full circle here let's do it you were talking about biking in Madison Yeah Byrne and his band they travel when they do their tours they travel with a van full of bikes and when they get to a new town they take off bike and all over town oh wow with that that's why they stay you know sometimes you say Yeah Ok. I do that could be let's talk politics ya all right Ok I was just going to say that could be hazardous content because remember when Barto decided to like her I'd sent. Her a fellow had a terrible job was off work for about us after that. You know let's so we don't have some things going on politically across the country and this latest thing Rod and John John I'd love to hear your take on this this was a decorated Purple Heart War you know war veteran who's member of the armed forces a lieutenant colonel he went testified in front of the House committees that are in deciding whether or not to drop articles of impeachment and Donald Trump went off on him I was I was stunned because this guy is a certified bona fide war hero and Donald Trump never use served. No it's a stunning I mean if if you were in the States I mean for listeners who are listening from Britain. What's happened today is amazing because this lieutenant colonel are very decorated military man who was wounded in Iraq I mean he's got all the medals the whole bit and he he is called you know use gone to this committee he actually stepped forward he said I listened in on this president's call with the or some elements of it with the head of the Ukraine and what was being said what was being talked about was inappropriate so this guy stepped up to say that and I was from come before Congress he showed up for this testimony full uniform all the all the medals and everybody who's ever dealt with him says straight a shooter you're going to meet just an incredibly honorable man and our our Republican friends tried a really I think what's going to turn out to benefit or foolish strategy they tried to suggest he might have dual loyalties that he wasn't really all that patriotic that maybe he was a little more interested in the crane or in Russia and stuff like that and the blowback. It has been so intense that even some very very conservative Republicans have essentially said the administration and its allies have gone too far and this is this is one of those moments in the at the impeachment inquiry in the accountability struggle all the things that are going on in the States right now that you know I think when the histories are written this will be a nice substantial chapter in it where you saw I think how desperate the Trump White House is to try to attack anybody that turns on him and in this case it just I don't think it worked I think it turned out very badly for the president today you know who had been living their day in Washington you had you had represent of Lynne Cheney didn't you standing up for him and saying what a dreadful piece of work it is by by people who got attacked him in when you're trying to do a smear campaign and you lose lose Cheney your smear campaign I'm working yeah yeah because she's a tough player I mean she's she is very hard core defending a president usually in on you know be in way out front on the frankly the right wing Republican side much as your father the former vice president was but even she said you know no way this is wrong and for the president to have that kind of break in his wall of support is you know it's a significant development you know by the way John how how long do you think before the impeachment inquiry is going to go into televised hearings. Pretty soon I think . The House will vote this week on formalizing the in call inquiry this is it really is to some extent a formality but when I talk to members of Congress what they tell me is that this is really the pivot point where they move from gathering information really the equivalent of taking depositions in a trial before you actually go to trial to the the formal public presentations I would imagine that we've still got a few weeks to go before televised hearings and in a formal sense but not long I would say and my gut tells me. Second 3rd week in November maybe that and then I think I think frankly I think there will still be an effort I'm not sure they can pull it off I think there will still be an effort in the house to get articles of impeachment presented reviewed by the Judiciary Committee and then put to the full house before Christmas or before the holidays and so you know I know that still sounds like a few weeks but I think it's going to start to move very fast you know and I try those because I'm I I suspect that obviously John you're highly engaged I haven't gauged Marc I think you're engaged but we don't know about joy if this came up on your t.v. Joy would you actually spend the time to watch it or would you would you go call out all of them absolutely be interested in the lynching of Donald Trump. Is like every American I think we go. I'm not a big fan but no definitely be tuned in. That I remember all you really want to get hearing that language bother you joy when they when he used it you know when he said he was being politically lynched. Did it bother me this is so many things that this man has that has disturbed me the countless that particular. Instance Not really I can't say that it did but I do have a lot of family members that are affected by the type of usage reading yes you and I remember when Clarence Thomas used you know when he mentioned a high tech lynching down back in 1901. People who use it I think right have a tendency not to know the history of it because if you knew the history of it yeah wouldn't even formulas to say lynching in and you know any kind of a political context pretty exhausted after you have a date for the Supreme Court uses it without knowing the background Well it's also promise can we make a clarification here though that Clarence Thomas is an African-American from the south right yeah so clearly he had knowledge he chose to use the term one can judge that one way or the other Donald Trump's a white guy from New York Ok. And and for him to use that phrase to use that term. It got a lot of blowback from a lot of folks and one of the lines I thought one of the best lines that people put forward was simply no lynching is lynching right it's not it's not some you know thing you you generalize off it's a horrific racist act of murder. And and I heard a lot of a lot of people put that forward and and I think you know we've had it's almost impossible to keep up with everything that this president says and and the responses to it and it is it does become overwhelming but it is notable that at the World Series this week when the president showed up his rhetoric his language and not something else got turned back on him because he had been very involved as is a kit as a candidate with these chance of lock her up as regards Hillary Clinton but when President Trump went to the World Series in Washington sat the box there when it was announced that he was there the crowd started chanting very loudly lock him up here. So let's talk about clubs I don't want to have. A good. Well Joey tell me 1st of all because Joey has a party coming up that he calls 7th heaven which is named after a very popular song by the league when Guthrie and it was remakes by Larry Levin who was the d.j. At the garage in the person that mentored Joey. Tell us about this party jam coming up. Well. I'm doing it with a partner of mine his name is Douglas Sherman and kind of fusing 2 different legacies and record playing styles one is the style of the loft which is no mixing they play the record from beginning to and and phase in the other record so there's a little pause in between now the parents' garage style we use mixing is no gaps in between the music and this is more of these 2 different playing styles fusing them together and it's been successful in the last 2 parties we've done this is the 3rd one coming up yeah yeah I mean these parties ride and John these are intense affair I mean people people come out and they want to dance they want to sweat and they want to remember they want to remember a different time in their lives these places a loft in the garage in particular which was you know those were the 2 places I spent the most time and there were so many people who back as you know gay liberation began to become. You know a buzzword I guess for want of a better term. These were places that refuge for people I remember talking to people who at the age of 1516 their parents found out they were gay they were thrown out of their houses they had no place else to go and the garage in the loft provided refuge for people and I think that that's why their legacies have lasted so long because many of these people now are in their forty's and fifty's and they still come out as matter of fact I went to a lot Party this past weekend ran into a good friend of mine named David Felton who's like he's almost Bernie Sanders agent. Oh yeah yeah and comes to everyone. Oh Joey don't you have you even There's people fly in from Europe for these parties there's people for them from all over the world yes yes they fly from Japan and they fly in from London they fly and from everywhere so it's because an annual event that we do . The reunions sort after. Experience how do you how do you send your invitations How do you how do you tell people and only those people but the party is going on. It's not really all of those people use Facebook we use some street distribution of flyers Instagram Twitter we were pretty up to date with our promotion machine and well but see now that it's an interesting difference as well because the loft has always been an invitation only party and they haven't changed that yet I think Joey may be having a bit of an influence on some of the people. You know because they're thinking now you know sending out invitations and sending out letters is one thing and it's worked for almost a half century the half century anniversary of the loft is next February and though its founder David Mancuso passed away in 2016. It still goes strong they still get packed houses and you know people and the amazing thing about the loft to me is that you get people of all ages you get David Felton who's in his late seventy's you get guys who bring their kids and put them up on their shoulders and dance and you know I mean because kids have always young people have always been welcome and it's an extraordinary as is the garage party extraordinarily diverse group of people. Facebook thinks we've been very helpful Oh yeah our lair the van Facebook page yes 85000 followers by itself we have a few We have about 3 or 4 pages and I'm writing family paradise of Russia group yeah that's the way we get the message you know well if you'll recall you've been the Tim Curry the star of Rocky Horror Picture Show and all sorts of other things he did a song paradise crush Yeah yeah he's a lot of people reference reference and often this is me we're talking about here this is real history I mean this is it's now but it's also something that is just an epic part of New York City. You know part and I don't fortunately it's turned you know the old site which you know some people want to try and maintain one way you know turned into a condo like so many other places all over York City. Yeah you know John and I have to say I can't figure out who can afford all these places every now and then I get stuff on Facebook from these different you know different places that are coming up prices you know studios starting at $1500000.00 I mean how do people afford that I saw an ad today a one bedroom 12 grand a month a month yeah a month Yeah you know I don't know whether it's you know wealthy people from outside the country to just want to be in a tear I don't know what they're doing but it has a political consequence here in New York as well and it has a club consequence because the clubs that used to be centered in Manhattan I mean at one time going to Brooklyn or Queens to a party was like blasphemy but now the best parties are old Brooklyn. And they have the wide spaces are still there. Luckily New York is a very spread out city you're always going to find someplace to have a party. Yeah. So much effort have enjoyed where you were also you don't know what else you. Are now going to probably do this some other clubs as public records this is now a days a few clubs in Brooklyn we just can't do parties in Manhattan no more because these these venues are very bar receipt driven so you can't really build a party and you know your party doesn't work after the 1st night. Of the venue says well you try because by. Booking you know the rents are a little bit more paddleboat so we can hang out there for maybe a wee 234 weeks and build the party and have some you know consistency. Well Joy around us it's been great it's been great hearing about building our party a brooklet they probably want us They're Playing Our Song which is probably not something that you'll hear ever at any of your party. Peer through a hole that you were here and John thank you and goodness me Mark Riley thank you so much for for just bringing the spirit of New York to no problem at all John take care man would talk sooner I hope rather than I would you enjoy and of course know he was going to let me find this is b.b.c.
