B.B.C. Sussex travel you trust. The latest travel for you across Sussex are in NE Hampshire Paula Brett with details of problems on the A 24 Broadwater. Thank you very much yes indeed Broadwater and the A 27 this is still very very slow in both directions it hasn't quite recovered from the morning rush between the graveyard roundabout and the something around about so there was an accident on the westbound stretch knew something road early which caused quite a bit of a problem so that is just at the after effects of that accident at the age 24 Warren Road is still very slow in both directions as well not helped by the A 27 issues from Washington corner to the graveyard roundabout likeness road now this is partially blocked as well there's been an accident it looks like a car has left the road completely man a nursery police are partially blocked the road to recover that's car so do just be aware of that slow Infeld bridge on the $8.00 to $6.00 woke up the road is still very sluggish on the eastbound stretch heading up to the star in traffic lights if you hang onto the train several where problems this morning for Southwestern railway You mean a 15 minute delays for services in and out of London Waterloo and flights to and from Gatwick Airport may face some delays this morning because of the fog. Experiencing a short delays but do you just check the status of your flights before you travel on PAULA Brett at the B.B.C. Travel center at least B.C. So 6 weeks Saturday and some say the Pledge. Was. It was. Above. The top. Area 4 Tops and loco in Acapulco. It's 10 past 10 Downing pike here until May Day Joining me in the studio now Brian T.V. Presenter Ben Hillman a familiar face on programs like a place in the sun Hello Ben Hello Danny I'd like to have been to Acapulco There you go that there's the next series of ice in the sun go further afield that's where I'm thinking of going next definitely I think Channel 4 would run with that well it's I'm going to picture today so long that I'm out on the south today so you've got your own a place in the sun the saffron aren't you what I used for 30 Channel 4 Grand Canaria of Gran Canaria is not my winter sun Hey yes nice down there because that's off the east coast of Africa isn't it yes so West Coast West Coast about 5 yes West Coast right out there in the Atlantic it's just a little bit further down despite it being Spanish Yeah about 4 hours yeah playing not too far volcanic rock and all there but yes Miss sun lovely taken down there to find what well we've got lovely Fred and Michelle have got 190000 pounds to find their dream property something they've been thinking about for years and years and years. So I have a lot of fun with them looking for properties and all people you take down there have different reasons for going maybe the search for the Son is it is that is the perhaps the prime motivation for most me would you think well it's different for everyone everyone's had a dream for years. Whether they want to retire there whether it be a holiday home it's such a wonderful thing to do because I'm jumping on board with someone's dream and living it for 5 days with them. And some people you know doing it young in their thirty's which you know that makes me which if I'm being honest yes and some people they've worked hard. All their lives all their savings and they're throwing it out the stream a question mark over Breck's it does that present an interesting one for this program at the moment with people or people not doing that or definitely doing that or don't let that put a brakes on dreams than me OK just just wondering whether people would you know are so unsure about what the status will be. That well exactly we everyone sure even the economists are unsure and I think if you know if you worked hard for 50 years of your life always had this dream in your head you really can that hold you back because there's many ways and ways I suppose there's ways around it and the kind of how much does 190000 pounds what does that get Michelle I'm afraid what the potential for them to put on property 23 bit apartments right if you're lucky to get a flat for that in Brighton wouldn't you know it's really impossible now some of the properties that we see you just think how is this possible because we're so used to what may be sort of over inflated prices back here at home and in terms of then becoming locals in the place then you know lived in it does it again does that vary where people really want to integrate or do they want a little bit of Britain but with extra sunshine Well everyone's different they some people want the security of having sort of familiar voices Brits about as a sort of a ho to establish themselves in a community other people want to fully sort of jump into the Spanish experience or the French experience and and be completely remote for themselves into the barn a little bike and driving to get in the morning and are they always grateful for your hard work time and energy because sometimes you see the show and you've flogged yourself to death gotta find these houses take them around they're trying to get in the big selling. Now that I think we all. Well people spend in the lot of money OK so it has to be right for anyone and everyone who's on the show and. And sometimes people just fall in love straight away and when you know it you know it don't you and a property sings to you. And other people who is just a little more cautious Well we'll see what happens with Michelle and Fred we will take the whole hour to take him on these houses as it is well it does take a whole week in fact but it's an hour on telly but watching it just feels like away because. It's probably the most pleasant afternoon you have OK Channel 4435 I catch that today's place in the sun and how did you get into this line of work what would you say your proper jobbies I tell you really a madrassa job if I was doing a proper job would be interior design what does that mean it means I'm a D.I.Y. Architect Danny I have a passion for property a passion for get my hands dirty a passion of a building and the passion for changing space and you were talking about inflated prices a few minutes ago is that part of the problem with shows like this where aspiration is in these kind of key does that have the perhaps the knock on effect of driving prices higher Well potentially can do buy to let properties people want to you know get 2nd place or whatever is well I think I think as well for a lot of people who have you know paid off their mortgage perhaps back here in the U.K. And they've seen a growth in the price of their property but that's all locked up in the property so by moving abroad potentially buying some of this half or a 3rd of the price even frees up a lot of cash for people to live a much better lifestyle than they can back in so I see some of these shows I mean there are some one channel 4 or some of the B.B.C. And in the afternoons and it's you know a couple from a city center somewhere who want to move to a little country village I'm just wondering whether that's an hourlong advert saying hey leave the city come and populate some towns out in the countryside outprice a body else in the market Yeah I just deal with warm climates I'm afraid yes we are couldn't possibly comment. In spirit. Xining So what people hire you to come and. Take a look at their place and say what we do with this space give us some ideas Well absolutely as creative as you absolutely whether that's just sort of sort of. Redecorating what they've already got in their rooms or where they bought a new property and they want to completely change the space so I can completely redesign their house from top to bottom and move on whatever you want. What qualifies you for that this isn't an advert for me by the way oh OK I'm intrigued how you get into this like line of works at selling you know your individual creativity you know just like you know I started as a product and furniture designer you say and it's slightly you know it's more along the way into interior design products and furniture designer OK And did you do a lot of that I mean you know we would have seen your work in Ikea or somewhere you may have seen my little lights in heels many years ago he'll. Have the store right . Where they now it's your lights I get it. Right so what sparked that was that something from school we could creatively at school I think Oh I think it was you know well I've always been very sort of hands on you know working with my dad who was a builder. Summer holidays were filled sort of working with him basically and. I just like making stuff with my hands and that came out of school you know always down in the D.R.Y. Shop in the D.I.Y. Shop in the design technology shop to you know making stuff over the summer holidays so I spent my life in there really good. Whittling Yeah as long as you're on your own that's fine. And then if I should see shows like Grand Designs with with Kevin McCloud is kind of the hero of the piece. Where we're not going to know every last McLeod's what what I can't stand about that show is people who are. They know what they want to do and they say this is their budget and then they come out with on a project manage it myself and that drives me crazy because you think that's a disaster waiting to happen why would you do that that's exactly what I'm doing at the moment to my own place you know you are full of your thank you so I could probably trust you because you have some experience but what I see so much you know show like that isn't people have these lovely dreams for their new space and they say this want to do and this is our budget and then they say imagine myself it goes all out of control really quickly blow the budget by at least 50 percent and you know you think you've been foolish people underestimate what is involved in building and if you don't know the building process then your sort of setting yourself up for a fall really and you have to have the benefit of time on your hands because if you don't have that and you're trying to project manage and run your own job have your own job at the same time. That will help mayhem will ensue Also when I was watching the other week on grand is I'm sorry this is not about you were talking they were converting some old castle somewhere and the guy said young to do it myself by the end of it he nearly got divorced because he was driving his wife out of her mind trying to look after the kids I think was another baby on the way as well and he kept saying it will be ready soon it'll be ready soon is it worth at least you go to a builder they go right on the start on this day and I'll end on that day and probably it might just be a few days at the end generally you get it delivered on time here's my lovely house I think at the end comes back to dreams again doesn't that dreams and budget you know yeah when they collide. You're supposed builders will take up some your budget because they like to be paid don't they so you can't get as much work done as you'd doing yourself or if you if it's a time and versus money you probably take 4 times as long and spend twice as much money that's it exactly yes it's a minefield but I have said this. But you won't listen to me now but it is me so you doing much interior designing for the people that are doing. This You've been full on what we're filming for a place in the sun and then I am back for well I you know I'm back for 12 weeks which is amazing but it gives me a chance to finish off my property because I'm not living in the moment we're living in a little flat with my 2 girls we got absolute cabin fever and I'm under pressure to get back in before Christmas because I've said I'm hosting Christmas right yeah what a fall and I. Can go 12 ways after we had our extension done we did Christmas right in the back it's not pretty much the 1st time we used the cookers Yes. It was quite scary but nobody died so it's quite a good thing and so what are you doing to your place you're somewhat well into things in terms of what you know millions you know well I've moved in the last couple of years to Shoreham by sea Brighton boy through and through but I moved to Sharon by say love it there a semi detached 930 S. House has actually been priced out of Brighton by people who self priced myself out of Brighton you know. But also Shoreham is lovely thing is lovely and wording is lovely you know we are so blessed where we live and I travel all around the world I see some beautiful places but I'm always happy to come back because Sussex is such a beautiful county and when the sun shining like it is today well there is no better place to be today and yesterday why wouldn't you want to be somewhere within stone's throw of the seaside precisely good and what you doing to it so what was it . Yes So your classic 930 S. Semi detached you walk in the front door panel the hallway parquet floor so quite traditional but then when you go beyond that Danny Well it's all change and I've opened the whole space I've pushed out the back I've pushed out the side I've got the Basically it's the ubiquitous family home but it's going to have a lovely. Arts and Crafts modernist 5 crystal and Crystal windows brittle Well Crittle style windows what is and Crystal windows so critical windows are your sort of 930 S. Horizontal glazing bars you'll see them on shore Well I should say Bryson airport now I should nice as that kind of dial of window yes I know which is very nice to think yeah OK you know that that kind of luck which is maintenance free is U.P.V.C. Well there in how I mean in these days has nothing to do I was so we've. Got to look at actually they don't trust absolutely. As good or leak when for instance all of those no they're all up to code you know past building regs these days and that something you know you have to jump through hoops for those what about the future of housing and the way housing so you're dealing with a 930 S. House so let's face it that's nearly 100 years old and about central heating it was probably in pretty drafty right when it was built how should we be building homes now if there's going to be some home building program of maybe more affordable homes you know years to come say in this area as well well suppressed way to build a new home these days well I would say bearing in mind how much property we need to create in this country to sort of fill the demands and we need to build quickly we are I think we should be you building sort of prefabricated properties built a factory ship to it because it's so quick to throw up I tell you what we heard about that word prefabricated because for a lot of people I think connotations a post-war prefabs Yeah you know not the sort of thing which will make these days what is a this is a high tech high exactly what it was like compared to the old prefab so built and designed elsewhere and then slotted together on site. With these in them these a solid structures you know with with the highest levels of insulation and technology and glazing you know this is as good as you could build a house and so much quicker than putting it in brick by brick by brick. Much much quicker yeah you know as long as you put the time into creating the foundations get the utilities in from that point on you know they're up in weeks not months yeah and we were talking about this on the program yesterday about solar panels and all this stuff and how we're going to be more live more ecologically friendly What are the regulations these days because one of the things yesterday was since the ninety's every new house has to have. Solar panels or something I'm going to. Launch a new build So yeah you build Yeah I'm not up to speed on that no it's not the sort of thing we should be doing so if we knew what was coming has solar panel as I say of recycling rainwater we are so more conscious of the way we live these days aren't we and I think you know if you are building from scratch that is really an opportunity to embrace all of those wonderful new technologies I mean I just look off of the shore from shore beach now and see that that fantastic wind farm and it's such a lovely glimpse into the future and I wish I was driving around in an electric vehicle in my house be empowered by the sun but again it is quite an expensive thing to retrofit into your property so you know if one's got the budget to do that yeah that's part of what you know like you're dealing with a 100 year old house. Of heating was no where near the consideration there was it just to have you know just a few locks on the logs and call on the well I want it yeah so in the future yes they're going to spoke to somebody who has solar panels and electric car and solar panels charge their car I mean that's OK up front cost yes. Exactly yeah and you know some of these these circumstances are technologies are sort of still in their infancy a little bit so you boy yes an electric car but then the battery of that has a life shelf shelf life and so you know there are a few little glitches that still need to be ironed down somebody else was saying about range on those are not quite up to scratch on some of the others others are making it so it's getting there is an absolutely yeah OK good what's next for you then Ben. What else are you going to be doing your own place in the sun while she working while someone I will probably. Tell you my goodness me to get off your back . To me and while you're here I'm your Brighton boy. You went to anybody remembers you from school pick shouts out so. Called know when human voice goes and so I'm done with that says well still many of them around of a left town a few of them there left town toss it around the country these days ready strength be ready bump into people in Brighton. Because I want to leave. As much to me is stay in touch and we'll see again thanks. Place In The Sun 430 this afternoon on Channel 4 if you don't catch that episode cool B.B.C. Sell 603 to 4 find. Where we keep you know I on this stretch 3 Broadwater CA 27 slow in both directions still in my senses they're sort of easing up to patchy cues from the grove lodge roundabout to see the something roundabout is busier than usual here because of an accident much earlier on this morning at the westbound stretches not quite recovered just yet as a result of that you've also got to extra delays on the A 24 Warren Road Again it's affecting both directions so between off into the corner and the Grove you're drowned about likeness right now we've heard from the police that this is partially blocked by an accident at Manor nursery very very slow here at the moment it looks like the car has left the road completely that it will slow you down if you heading between Bogner Regis and Chichester Putnam Heathrow that's still looking slow you to head between the A 3 and the A 31 a hoax back other than that not too bad you made your looking pretty good the M 3 on the A 3 both moving well if you hang on to the trains delays up to the 15 minute . Brighton and Hove Albion defender Lewis donk admits it's a dream come true to be in the England squad for the forthcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain Dunc says his club manager Chris Hughton phoned him. To tell him about the color work up to misquote from a monitor I think you want hearing it for and then voice my sick call him back so soon as I saw our call him back any time any good news it was Chris Hughton who had the the O'Dowd pleasure to bring you the good news it was as our guy who gave me the good news I'm honestly best news I've had in my career to be called up to a place like this and to finally get recognition and be called international team is the best thing that's happened to me yes absolutely I mean this is one of the moment isn't it that you dream of when you're a little boy when you just start in to play the game yeah of course you dream of it every every located run around the park now is dreaming to be sitting here and doing this and I was doing exactly the same thing and thankfully I worked hard enough and showed what I can do and I put faith in me and called me into the squad and on the proudest moment it was again a phone call from the governor and it's a pleasure to be here and you now become another member of the single and squad who has made the step up from League One to the championship to the Premier League and now being part of the international squad so there's a there's a little bit of knowledge to tap into isn't it from that point of view I feel the boys advantages are I think especially young age playing in those leaks it grows up and makes you understand football much better think now you got there like I'm 23 leagues but there's nothing like trying to lead one and having a power of a man is fighting to take a paycheck every week so I yes massive massive growth for me to come for League One championship and now frankly in the Premier League and knowing that. Congratulations once again called up for England so good few days for him both him and Shane Duffy 5 year new deals to keep that the Albion and is England's call up as well so good times for them and said he had. Quite a lot of recognition in the Premier League when they were selling their performances as defenders so they being highlighted so that is good news 21 minutes to 11 Sussex and B.B.C. Sorry. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. 5 And also on the inside out se we heard from some former now retired Sussex police officers who said cuts to the police service have had a devastating impact and that was our phone in subject on Monday morning I spoke to Graham from Crawley who was telling me about some earlier crimes that have against him but also then he got back in touch yesterday saying that on Monday afternoon after he'd spoken to us on the radio his motorhome had been broken into and about 2 and a half 1000 pounds worth of fishing gear had been stolen he was really unhappy about the Sussex Police response that for a start it took a long time to report the crime on the 101 number and then he was sent a text back saying that scenes of crimes officers wouldn't be attending and the crime didn't meet criteria for attendance I've heard again from Graham this morning on the text because he was saying that well you know if they can't if they don't attend they can't take say fingerprints that the criminals were left behind and Graham says in his text that there are some very good fingerprints in the in the camper van including on the rearview mirror but won't never be out to get those where we Graham thank you what has she been saying Carl in Hastings regarding your conversation about the policing my heavily pregnant sister in law was home alone watching while 3 people in Balloch lovers were trying to break down the fence to get access to their regard and naturally she was petrified called 999 Their response was there's nothing we can do because they haven't actually broken in yet so my brother called me lucky I was working around the corner and was able to get around in time to chase him off myself as far as I know there was no further action taken by the police that was at 8 am broad daylight says Carl in Hastings Mike in writing Dean's on the line Hello Mike. And your your experience on this. So I can repeat I'll just speak of so in terms of place responses have been experiencing this got thought on this yes I have 3 incidents recently and 999 coal I wife was a sort on for 16 hours an issue with a car with. More than 5 weeks to deal with despite reporting and a hit and run when I reported night no one turned up until the middle of next day. So what do you think about those 3 incidents some sum that up for us in terms of response in your view of it well I live in writing the impression I get is that unless what's happening is happening in Brighton then you're never going to become a priority and while I appreciate the idea of priorities at some point the outlying districts must get some places we are paying for this and everything everything I've just really being mostly dedicated to Brighton much like my so called parties we could have something in Sussex County even down to a simple thing of the time my wife played the 999 call there was 2 police officers during the road traffic accident which is over less than half a mile away one of them could respond. And she was assaulted Yes So I don't quite understand how that doesn't warrant a response because actually you could argue that the police can't investigate everything if a shovel has been nicked from your garden shed maybe it'll be a police officer some Your wife is assaulted in the street and rotting day in and that doesn't warrant a response at the time it happens. Well yeah because. Obviously there are priorities but to say my wife was. Hit by a car as we know where the car was going no where the car was could have been. My wife was quite shaken up. She was injured her arm was bruised and that to go to the doctors to check out on that that's for sure nothing was broken something that let me just put this in this point when the chief counsel was with me a couple of weeks ago we had an hour sit down and he did describe to me in some ways policing is changed if they weren't able to respond then with the intelligence you can give them so maybe the coverage straight in number maybe some of the traffic cameras on the road chances are they could track that drive down and they might get a knock on the door a few days later I don't know if that has happened in your case. Ultimately yes that did happen but not the time my wife was by yourself and she was very shy felt scared wondered who was going to come back and in the end all that happened was I just said. Don't do it again because I said oh it's just my wife's we're going to. Be very tempted to go and it's an armed guard so it's just is word against mine. You don't do that oh yeah. Yeah I listen you know and. Your wife the victim here and does she feel like justice has been done there we are there's a point. Justice is being done. OK. And so what's the solution to it. You know what seemed to be you know quite probably 2 or 3 of 2 out of 3 of your instances seem quite serious to you many and I asked what do you put that down to is that a consequence of cuts employees funding or a different method of policing or just the high volume of crimes are now being committed and also reported to police who you know they've increased I've got no way to make a comment about the funding because I don't see sight of that but it does concern me that every time I see police in my area or in Brighton there's always 2 of them I go to Louis to other places they seem very do their job by themselves so you know talk about priorities you know there's no use in twice as many places you need to in some instances that's clearly Thomas and I need more police officers that incident but. For someone like us who lives in. Paying for the police the additional charges last year I feel that there is little or no local police the all times I see a place when it's when they join things in the village we see none of that none of that low level place whether it's people on mobile phones dangerous driving speeding up and down the road nothing like that at all so as a resident I don't feel as if the place supporting me given the map track that I'm providing funds for that lack of a visible the terror Mike thank you I'm sorry about what happened to your wife Mike and what Indian there 1333 my text number start your message with the word radio or you can give me a call 802321045.
