Good afternoon drive time with Sarah go along tonight show the 827 opposition builds to the latest bypass proposals for our Until our campaign is don't agree I've got a full report stabs 5 times a 100 starts in Hastings for the attacker to knifed a man close to a primary school cycling are undercover cops needed to keep cyclists 8. 1010 pounds from today London introduces a new tax on police service I'll ask how long before we see it in Sussex these species are 6. 60. But our top story this afternoon the South Downs National Park will start he has voted to object to all 3 options for improving the a 27 Arundell they say more work is needed on the possible impacts and alternatives before they're even rank the options they view is in sharp contrast to West Sussex County Council which last week gave its support to Route 5 a which would cut through woodland in the Binsted area well we'll be hearing from the chair of the National Park in the next hour of the program but 1st let's get more local reaction we talked to k y Clint He's the chair of the local group. Ok Thanks very much for joining us on the program. First of all the South Downs National Park doesn't like any of the options but your position is different you're Ok with them to a point can you explain more well I'm not ready we we don't want to be absolute they are so. Happy that they rejected them all but we do agree that there needs to be some encouragement for all their families. You know traffic news reports and all of that here hold ups. Our proposal is for an incredible on that there are a lot of optional one this is the closest town. The design. I think the presented is a big joke carriageway and we are with all the rest of people around in and around the area to say we really don't want to see a great deal carriage way but we do want to say a single carriageway with a new design and that will take slow but increase the traffic along and take out the issues which are holed up along the way it's not about volume we don't want to increase capacity of the road so you can do you can arrange every say Option one that's that's kind of workable with a few tweaks involved it is but we didn't we would want to give the impression we think that I'm right Joe casual buyers are and so is if they aren't so we don't but when you make use of. What you make the fact the National Park is opposing all the options at the moment I'm totally understandable and we were quite impressed with their integrity emphasis uing their responsibilities and in supporting the special the special qualities that they have to have a duty to. Ensure are maintained and their main issue was the information was provided by our highways England was completely inadequate and didn't allow with our no circumstances unable then to say that there was any option to pursue this The maintain the special courses or landscape the wildlife and habitat for tranquility recreation heritage communities all of that work because holy land mines by the proposals been proposed by horizon as England of course you know also meant leave the government can just decide what he wants on this so do you think your opposition is going to make any difference. I don't know that remains to be saying we know the people of actually really looked into the information that they really poor quality information data that highways England provided just find it. Awful it's just Paul is so poorly done the next those who say or say what they come up with really needs and crew were really hoping that. The information that we got about for example the quality of a lot not just the landscape but the wildlife and they have it in the business to the front groups funded by which is being supported by some new forces and there is so hugely damaging. Just hoping that the cost particularly that would be required to provide any sort of compensation Well I would argue how can you compensate for very rare species and destroying a commune this is. One foot in one take. That they are another option would be for something more sensible improvements that were promising Well Kate thank you for joining us on the program in the next half hour of the program we'll hear from the chair of the National Park what she has to say a little later on now the niece today a man speaking stabs near a primary school in East Sussex The attack happened earlier this morning now my producer Simon Jenkins has been following the story joins me with the latest So some of what we know at this stage Hi Sarah Well it's right about 1130 this morning that police were called to the Tower Road woodland viol road part of some minutes it's close to the Christ Church of England primary school they had reports of the man had been seen lying on the ground and bleeding and officers have now confirmed that he suffered multiple stab wounds and was indeed rushed to hospital for treatment by the emergency services and some emotion play saying well this stage inspector Ed Knievel's told the b.b.c. They have officers working in the area to try and find the suspect the person responsible and what they're doing is they're asking for anyone who saw what happened in that area. Levon 30 this morning to get in touch with their information tower road he's currently Coast officers are on the scene there doing their forensic searching and anyone with information is aren't asked to get in touch with the police the serial today is 542 of the 23rd of the 10th Simon thank you my producer Simon Jenkins reporting now still to come in tonight's program we'll be bringing you up to date with the latest on bricks it to reason May says she's ambitious and positive about the brakes in negotiations following last week's e.u. Money. We need to be certain that we're in. League right what they like. In the right place. At the right on that. Well tonight the B.B.C.'s inside out program looks at the issue and shows how it's operating in Hampshire you can see that some nights and a little later on in the program we'll hear from a cycling campaigner here in Sussex one of the people behind the bike train more on that on tonight's program coming up a little later on now of course has been big news today the owners of older more polluting cars have had to pay an extra 10 pounds to drive in central London today will be looking at that a little later on and analyzing what the impact could be here in Sussex us all coming up a little later on in Snipes' b.b.c. Whether you plan your weekend your car clothes whether you hang out your washing. Whether it rains. Whether it's cold. All whether it's sunny find out what the weather is going to store for you. Have a forecast for the next few days. From b.b.c. Sussex. You're listening to b.b.c. Sussex Drive time all the day's top stories for Sussex Now let's settle more about the inside out program tonight they're looking at the whole issue of the close past scheme cyclists in Sussex want police to introduce here tonight the B.B.C.'s inside out program looks at the issue and shows how it's operating in Hampshire this morning what's happened is my colleague out about on a motorcycle the one that pulled you in he's observed you overtake 3 cyclists this morning including on marked police cyclists so what we need to do is allow cyclists room to maneuver around obstacles to react to what's going on in front of them and also so that as motorists you know intimidating I used a cyclist who is let's not forget a lot more vulnerable than you are in your car or your van Yeah so we'll undercover patrols make a difference who Duncan Blinko Ney's is cycling campaigner here in Sussex and one of the people behind the bike train so drunk and do we need to close pass came here in Sussex Well I think it's a great idea has been tried in other parts the country I think it's. It's. With the force of the law behind it and the police I'm sure the police are being quite understanding and it's hardly ever educational value but but it gave the kids a very strong message to anyone driving that they need to be giving plenty of space to cyclists and it is it is very intimidating when they call come close to want to buy cannot might not be obvious to everyone that drives And so I think to send a carry clear message on that is very helpful indeed and what was the situation at the moment and how much clearance are made for skipping cyclists it often I would imagine falls a village very long way short of the ideal welcome you know the roads ferries some streets are very narrow The circumstances can be very different so I think it's very hard to make very hard and fast rules on this but I think the thing is to be you know for motorists to be very aware and sensitive and to give as much room as they possibly can or ask road and where there's enough road which clearly they should be given plenty of room. You know narrow streets of Brighton where I am I mean that's not always possible but then the track is going slower so I think it's a commonsense approach is what's needed and I'm sure that's what the place will be . Calling for in the way that they enforce this. Summer and almost turned into a war between motorists and cyclists because you know I know there are sometimes cyclists that don't apply the rules of the road to make it very difficult for for that I think are still hard to see them coming also anticipate what they can today well obviously hope because cyclists can make themselves visible unclear what their intentions are in terms of indicating all this of the things so there is a responsibility on on that side but I think the bottom line is that. As a cyclist I guess as with pedestrians you're vulnerable road users and that needs to be. Borne in mind in the way the motorists conduct themselves but yes I mean we're all you know there's limited. Space often and often competing for it and. You know there can be bad behavior on both sides but at the end of the day so I could start very vulnerable and I think mostly you know people doing their best on a bike obviously helps if they've got lights when it's dark and. You know our are clearly visible but I think at the end of the day the onus is on the tourists to take care and to get plenty of ruminants out of the place we met separately for be sending out a thank you very much for joining us on the program of course you can add your thoughts as well 8133 space to your message with the word Radio other news today the prime minister says she's ambitious and positive about breaks it and claims she's begged e.u. Leaders for help it follows last week's European summit in Brussels will speaking to update the house Theresa May sought to strike an upbeat tone I am ambitious and positive about Britain's future and these negotiations. If we're going to take a step forward together it must be on the basis of joint effort and Endeavor between the u.k. And the e.u. But I believe that by approaching these negotiations in a constructive way in a spirit of friendship and cooperation we can and will deliver the best possible outcome that works for all our people and that belief was shared by other European leaders when it comes as a German newspaper published an alleged leak from a private dinner between Mrs May The European Commission's president jungle Juncker the account suggests that she appeared tired and politically weak and she begged for help but speaking to the b.b.c. Today Mr younkers was adamant that it hadn't come from him nothing's truly knows I had an excellent work you do know if there is a. She was in which a she was that she was fighting as a duty to everything for me was so she didn't plead with you for help not. The sort of start of which you promised Meanwhile 5 of Britain's biggest business lobby groups have called for agreement on the brakes a transition deal by the. End of the year in a joint less the government they want the U.K.'s at risk of losing jobs and investment the groups fear they'll have to enact contingency plans if a deal to smooth the period after Britain see us exit is not settled by the turn of the year well the director of the Confederation of British Industry Carolyn Fairburn says businesses need certainty it is now only 17 months until the day the u.k. Will leave the European Union so they are making decisions today right now about investment we're just today seeing a softening of manufacturing investment intentions coming through this is real this is a search and and a transition agreement by the end of the year would help enormously to keep investment in jobs in the country well the government says talks are making real tangible progress the Labor mayor of London City can though says that firms may leave if they don't get clarity soon Last week the did agree to start preparing for discussions about our future relationship including trade however it maintains formal talks on that can't begin until the divorce settlements Agreed but in a speech today the foreign secretary Boris Johnson urged the to get on with it given a fair wind to the idea of themselves now discussing the new trade deal how we're going to however they want to proceed I suggest humbly to our friends and partners in Brussels now is the time to get on with it. Political reporter Peter Sula just after 530 about this get the latest from Westminster this afternoon now the nice today the new teach our children. Is aimed at reducing pollution and it of course as we've heard is coming today in London is older more police cars will have to pay an extra $10.00 pounds effects vehicles which don't meet certain emission standards generally those registered between 2000 before 2006 the mayor of London City Council has the revenues from the charge we ploughed back into improving equality more policies to encourage walking cycling better public transport also to encourage people to screen the forms of trolls will give a couple of examples where retrofitting buses will appoint diesel buses from $2800.00 buses double decker buses will be hung on mission from next year will have the license they need diesel taxis taxis will be 0 emission let's tell NASA gram ban she says Sussex pace motoring journalist Graeme thanks for joining us on the program this evening. This is going to affect a lot of my choices and. There are national. Somewhere around 324-0000 times per week or. Driving cars which are pretty 2006 and will have to play not talk about there is a little bit of uncertainty in the exact area because the congestion charging area is only a very small part of London. And if it is directly overlying that maps a map then those are the sort of numbers but in fact there are many many areas within London that are actually far worse far more toxic. Than the areas of the congestion charge so I find it slightly strange but then when I dig a little further I find that this is only an interim measure. So the car just touched on there there's an outer a 'd low emissions bill to come in probably it was a talented 20192020 which will be far more expensive and far more expensive. But of course the space the whole idea of this is to drive ultimately these older vehicles he's policing vehicles helpful for the ready so that was kind of happened because I'm presuming that it was in the long run just the London the introduces the challenges Well it's a it's following a European patent fight this is being nudged along by the markets as one decision says manas is a quality across most European cities now Paris is already instituted something similar that came in I think in June of this year Madrid is doing something very similar all 0 is similar in is very very similar all of the European capitals have similar problems you will have problems with with a lot of sides of our church such nitrogen c o 2 carbon monoxide you know these are indeed killer gases but the 'd reduction I heard described by wanting a clean advocate on the next subject professor. Who suggested this would probably only a man saving of one to 2 percent of the $9000.00 or so deaths were some economists attributing to pollution so one wonders just how far it's going to go and how effective it's actually going to pay it's interesting as well because there was a little bit of confusion about what the policing costs were a little while ago it was you know diesel was was deemed to be the baby less policing. There was a time when governments of Europe decided they wanted us to buy days like Member very well I was also one of the nice is about 2 years ago when I 1st started writing for magazines and newspapers are saying. These days I don't like to give a good idea to me Ok because it's cetera but for passenger cars perhaps not such a good idea where then they were targeted to have the future. Cheaper because a few trees on them were much cheaper than petrol. Well that's pretty much a March as if. There is only actually more expensive so. There is grounds for saying that the American governments have basically caught all of us motorists when that day is a road and no change there always another Michael was able to go along very interesting to talk he Thank you Graham so much for joining us on the program this evening my pleasure Graeme bench speaking there and then our other news this evening just coming up 29 minutes past 5 o'clock a new study suggests the world's oceans are at risk from increasing acidification which threaten sea life is caused by carbon dioxide emissions which being made worse by climate change pollution and agricultural fertilizes Well the b.b.c. Broadcast a survey agrees that the oceans are at risk in a variety of ways he's been speaking to the b.b.c. Science editor David Shipman ahead of his eighty's t.v. Series. Of the roots still needs to find a place where young can rest where there was a very moving scene in episode one of a walrus mother trying to get her cough onto a piece of ice and there wasn't much left because it's all melting What's your sense about the scale is rate of change in for example the Arctic I think that any skeptics of the word 10 years ago or 20 years ago about global warming and so on about climate change and there were lots must surely be diminishing almost a vanishing point when you see the evidence that we've collected have been the world scientists round the world connected of what's happening to our seas and the fact that we're responsible for I've talked about the fragility of the ocean I mean one of the episodes you explore some of the threats that they face what for you if you like the most compelling argument that they are under threat. I suppose areas of bleach coral in the last program which we deal with the problems of facing oceans there are shots of the big areas of coral reef that all white bleach crumbling deserts. And that if you've ever seen a cold leaf and you think what that once was that's enough to make you weep What is it that motivates you to remain engaged at this active pace if I may say your age but is so wonderful and so astonishing and we want more you want out of life this amazing power play of of astonishment and beauty and intricacy and wonder and and areas we don't know about discovery and the natural world is just a never ending and a never ending delight and David you of obviously renowned for engaging younger audiences in the natural world what do you think about this series will most captivate younger people what is it that you're hoping that they will engage with. I suppose the complexity and the beauty of of the underwater world and of the characters the little things. The extraordinary behaviors of all these creatures doing so and they're also beautiful and so extraordinary so unlike anything else that we encounter on dry land the world of the underwater is just amazing. David Attenborough speaking there the time now 532. I've. Hello as we go through Schneider going to be initially drive at the. We've got a band of rain initially patchy as we get towards the early hours of tomorrow and we'll morning with overnight temperatures quite mild as a result dropping to around 12 or 13 degrees now for tomorrow it's a bit of a down breezy and starts during the morning we see that rain edge its way eastwards behind it we're going to be seeing a brighter picture there's going to be a bit of brightness around but the main story is it stays dry temperatures feel a little warm the time of it is 1617 degrees we've got a mild southwesterly affray to thank for that and it stays moderate over into Wednesday as well now for Wednesday is going to be again a bit of a damp start to things by the often a day we should be broadening out the way you see the breaks in that cloud cover again that's going to be a quite time of year 1718 degrees but you could even see them nudging up to 19 or 20 now we staying dry for with that as day but it will change as we had the day for Friday we start driving and we've got a cold front that's going to be sinking its way southwards that means we'll be seeing some rain behind it's much cooler temperatures for there was the drive picture as we look towards the weekend. Sussex travel. With your travel updates so 345957 double 057. 6. Well Theresa May says she's ambitious and positive about the bricks in negotiations following last week's e.u. Summit the prime minister gave a statement a short while ago updating M.P.'s on the tool if we're going to take a step forward together it must be on the basis of joint effort and endeavor between the u.k. And the e.u. But I believe that by approaching these negotiations in a constructive way in a spirit of friendship and cooperation we can and will deliver the best possible outcome that works for all our people and that belief was shared by other European leaders. Our political reporter Peter Sol in Westminster So Peter trees there trying to highlight the positives how convincing Washington or she said that this summit last week had given her. A certain degree of and a degree of confidence that we could soon move on to start talking about a future trade relationship but we didn't learn a great deal more this afternoon from what we found out of the end of last week I mean she talked about some of those key issues the rights of e.u. Citizens she again said that we were within touching distance of a day long she said that significant progress had been made on the issue of the Northern Irish border as well but the sticking point. And has been the case for some weeks now is over the divorce settlement how much Britain is prepared to pay to to move the talks forward she said again that the u.k. Would honor its commitments but as far as we understand it the amount of money that's on the table from the u.k. Side is quite a lot less than what the e.u. Would like and interesting hearing the response from the Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn saying he had a worrying sense of Groundhog Day He said Every time you come back and give us an update it doesn't feel like a great deal has changed and of course very important that next round of negotiations that's right yeah growing importance or even talk a little else the moments in Westminster I mean one article from the German press over the weekend has created a bit of a stir suggesting that series a May at a dinner with the European Commission President Jiang called younker before the summit last week she had deep rings under her eyes she looked like someone who hadn't slept for days but John called younger has said that he that is going to completely false and he said he's as shocked and surprised by the report says she you know he said that she looked strong and. Capable you know you are supposed to raise money you can forgive her for looking a little bit tired given the pressure that she's under a lot of members of her own party particularly those hard line breaks it is a ratcheting up the pressure on her to move to the next stage because they say if we can start talking about trade in time for the next summit in December then we really need to start preparing seriously for the eventuality that we leave the e.u. Without any deal whatsoever Peter thank you Peter sill reporting from Westminster for us well in just a moment we'll hear more from the chair of the South Downs National Park Authority about the objections to proposals for the a $27.00 at. P.b.c. The South Downs National Park Authority has voted to object to all 3 options for improving the a 27 Arundell they say more works needed on the possible impacts and alternatives before they'll even rank the options well West Sussex County Council have given their support to the 5 a reach highways England will announce a decision later this year Margaret paren is chair of the South Downs national park or storage Now I asked the alley areas the decision will be made by the government can anything be achieved by the s.t.m. Publicly objecting at this stage Sherry much so because the South Downs national parks Orci is a statutory constitute a of the process and therefore we will be pushing evidence to the government inspector who will then make the recommendation to the government as to whether prison to proceed and if so on which route. Eventually So you feel that any objections that you raise will be taken very seriously yes I mean what we're doing at the moment is objecting to the potential for harm because of the process which highways England go through I'm not defending the process because it's one we'd have to deal with they will not be saying until the next stage when they've chosen the route what mitigation and compensation they are prepared to put in to see off any potential harm there is a national park and we need to see that information before we can make any decision on exactly what we're going to say to the inspector now cool something must be done what do you then feel is the answer of course visitors need to get to the park many people are listening you see a 27 and see the problems there on a day to day basis yes and that's something which the government is going to have to balance the harm to the National Park after mitigation and compensation. Against all of the other fact is people getting into the National Park the local economy the impact of the current system problems around our middle and not balance is not ours to make that's for the government to make it's a row to make sure that the impact on the National Park is recognized in that process. It does seem to be that there's a lot of disagreement going on here in that those opposed to plan the plans does can't even agree on necessarily what they're opposed to and no one can really come up with a proposal for a way forward here. I keep on saying I'm sorry about this that this is the government's decision highways England will have to decide to all this maelstrom of differing views which their preferred route is and then to say what they're going to do to mitigating compensate for any harm to the National Park as it goes through the National Park you know. They are going to have to put that mitigation conversation on the table but they will selflessly have to deal with all the other points of view that are expressed to them by all sorts of different people it's difficult one isn't it because the National Party yes is about preserving the peaceful environment both about ensuring that the somewhere where people can live and work effectively Absolutely and that's something that we are very conscious of the problem we've had at this stage of the consultation is not only do we not know what the mitigation compensation is going to be what sort of access highways Englund are prepared to given the national parks for people but also we don't know the impact on the other roads in the national park so we can't make an assessment that this stage of what. Created in the National Park will gain from the road and which will lose because of a beef runs the sun and how is England themselves. In consultation have understood that that it's not a straightforward decision for us because keeping up to date with the latest on that story unfolds now let's talk Dr. I don't see 1st female Time Lord will have 3 new companion standing with the cat who takes a verse that says he talked to next year will be joined by new cast reckon is practically Walsh typing Cole and Amanda Gillis went to Sharon d. Clarke you know it's having row back they will she's been talking to b.b.c. 3 counties radio's breakfast present to Andy Collins he says looking forward to being part of the show 50. Becoming a fag are you so much the show's a kid when it was with Liam was in it with the Dr and implacable I used to like is the scary but it's almost 57 votes all of what I was so 7 Noin and then I also lost touch with. That was a quite a film and that was in black and white which by the most go in there was a great film I'll. Let So I'm with Peter Cushing plays to talk and it's in full color so sweet always precise. So when they found you out by then and it was like it was it was a simple yes I'll do that well actually you know it was it was it was a simple as that because of course so much other stuff going on you have to some things have to sacrifice obviously it was there was speculation I was going to be in it for quite some time but the news broke last night and I personally have had messages all through the not from the Australian friends of mine in the industry just as you can. Look at the Reds a pipe as simple as. Can you tell us anything about your character Graham well. His party get caught up in it it's called Call up and as far as I'm aware and that's about it I'm going to say really serious. First of all I've got no oil that absolutely got knowledgable. On the way down then out now it's probably because I keep it a secret from every hole from everyone that's involved is so. Shrouded in secrecy they tell you absolutely nothing it's a my is amazing Do you know anything about Jodi with her because Dr. We met once last week this fall off on a Friday Well I know people of fall just love the act. Time now 40 minutes before 6 o'clock local papers on the way very shortly let's catch up with the headline. Story is not the South Downs are still particle store she has voted to object to 3 options for improving the age 27 at Arundel a man suffered multiple stab wounds near a school in St Leonards police are investigating and the European Commission has denied reports in a German newspaper The trees are made begs the e.u. For help in the breaks it talks look at the weather much it's not dry Maal clouds sinking lower in the not becoming thick enough to produce some drizzle low enough to submerge parts of the South Downs and fog temperatures 13 Celsius 55 Fahrenheit b.b.c. Sussex trouble you trust in the a 2032 the little Hansen rate is partly due to an accident at Changi road that on top of the regular delays heading up towards the. Corner at least for long the road partly blocked both ways because rocks between Cavendish place and for one street west of the rest of the delays around the one way system of New Haven certainly in and around Lewis where the 26 the 27th on the 877 are all struggling the north on a 21 Hastings busy the southbound 22 into Golden Cross and also very slow the regular queues of journey around Chichester an hour until the 859 is very slow eastbound 3 masted is a queue me a 24 southbound tween ashing to Washington but also torn in the southbound 823 say between Volney and Hickstead on Sunday between the stage of roundabout and peaceful you've got the right what's to contend with through 3 bridges as well as delays at no trouble for the m 2325 still very stop start from halfway between Swan Lake on the dart and change and the other way Staines right the way around to junction 17 at Maple cross and still a 10 minute delay on Southern trains between bottom and bright. See some 6 travel. Still to come in tonight strive time we will hear more about your gas and electricity are you paying more than you should a subject that's been under discussion with Danny pike and we'll be looking at the issue before 6 o'clock this evening of course on a regular basis we catch up with the latest from our local papers always some great stories on asked by our reporters across the county as they delve into what's been going on in their patch and today it is the turn of the Sussex Express and he squints to guess at and Susan King joins me on the line hi season and once again you have a great selection of stories for us now starting with libraries which have been a big issue tell us more about I mean a library Yes I mean I believe you've probably been covering the library story haven't you but it is a it is the problem is a lot of small villages because some ethos is current account for lots of councils around the country they've had to make very drastic cuts and one of the cuts are making 'd is in fact taking out about 7 of the country's libraries which is quite a large number and they're fairly small communities this Ringman Mayfield willing to and Colgate to a smallish places where people do rely on the library and in ring the particularly . A petition has been put together and people are saying the County Council actually formally opened a little library built an extension to the village hall to house a library and the current account for people came along and said how wonderful it is and now 2 years later they're telling us we've got to close it so they just are asking people to sign the petition to let them tickets all know that this is really something that can't be replaced they're all of them valuable but this one in particular is very valuable and as you know people would have to go either into East Boehner they have to drive into Louis and try and park if they want to borrow a book or use a computer and if they're really invaluable service. They feel they're losing so you know anybody living in ring the feel strongly about it pop along and sign the petition and it might just do some going to need interesting is a small arteries but big feeling you know this really has no people very upset it has and I think most of us see no grownups of what we will of a library and of course children love libraries and the labrat do wonderful things for children they have some baby play sessions don't they have one library I think has has a session for fathers and babies you know so people can go along with this with their tiny children and there's lots of the cities they offer so you know it is it is worth people actually making a representation saying look you know we we know you've got to save money but please save this one for well an interesting one I suspect one which we'll be covering in further detail I'm sure because the future now is an interesting one getting ready to celebrate the 200th birthday of John my snail Yes this is somebody that knew people might not have heard of I certainly haven't heard of him until I started to do a bit of research he was a reverend he lived 200 years ago it's the 200th birthday I'm going to be in January actually next year but they're getting ready to celebrate up in East Grinstead he was the warden is a beautiful house which is called Sackville college and it was an arms house and it was built in 1609 for Robert Sacco who was the Earl of Dorset unnaturally that him Reverend Neal he was a bit of a rebel he opposed a lot of bishops he ruffled lots of feathers he denounced churches that separated themselves out and put rich people in one pew and poor people and other people and he wrote lots of famous hymns and the best known is Good King Wenceslas and people say that the reason he wrote it there was he used to look out of his window and he squinted at the Ashdown Forest and of course lots of people were gathering wood in the winter they were up against the forest fence all those famous words that we sing every Christmas what devised by him because of being close to the Ashdown Forest and seeing how much people relied on collecting water in the forests there should be really interesting is going to be a musical celebration concerts the. And exhibition at the museum up there so and I think probably in the church at Christmas is going to be one Carol every put it wonderful I love the family this next story is a feast quite difficult thing to think to think about and this is big giving consent for your loved ones I said to be donated when they die and I find this story incredibly moving because it involves the the loss of a 9 year old little girl yes it's it's a story that you can't really take lightly it is quite a serious story but a lady cordially her 9 year old daughter and me she died he had a very rare kidney cancer and she does very sadly died and the family let the funeral director know that they wanted to donate any organs that they felt were necessary and what were necessary were. And the gift of life went on to save the sight of 2 young people and this is thanks to the op filmic team to Queen Victoria Hospital at East Grinstead and evidently I didn't know this but they do $250.00 cornea transplant a year and there's a recognized shortage of people donating corneas I think it's because people think eyes they are the personal they we might be prepared to donate a liver or some other organ but the eyes are difficult one to consider that when you think that 2 young people had their sight restored because of the generosity of this this mom you know who was prepared to let it happen and she said although it was the most difficult thing I've ever done in my life it does mean that the death death or the death of a loved one can make a positive difference I find these stories astonishing and yes I think how people can can be like that and think of others in the time of must be absolute despair and it's at a time I mean is that the time isn't it it's not the time that their loved one dies it's not months later when they've had a chance to get over it it's actually a moment but they say that in fact it's an incredibly successful operation lots of people don't think it could happen but they do say that if you if you would be prepared if you you know in your living will they call it a people now are asked to fill out a form to say they'd be prepared to die. Talk and please do allow your eyes to be donated another sub element of this subject she said and she said it didn't make any difference she said when we saw a little God afterwards we didn't know what had happened it wasn't horrible or told or we thought it was these 2 young people who could see to seeing Fred to be moving on a much much lighter night would you not be one of us when one extreme to the other stairs it is one of the most unusual volunteering tough I think Standen house which is now where in the middle of Sussex and then advertising for volunteers to be. And they say if you know cost you and you're going to return it things I didn't used to do to talk to children and give them presents and heaven knows what they even want to stand in the center close and of course at the end we need to stand in the tentacles or the else when the real ones go off and have a cup of coffee you need to be to the break you know so so it's not the real Santa that they're looking for but they're looking for somebody that would be a pet or wear the suit stand innocent and also be one of the if you're feeling a bit sad elfish There's a lovely woodland grotto which is going up at the moment it's a stand and hosts and you could have lots and lots of fun spare a few in December just to become an all storyteller storyteller. Wonderful selection of stories is always says no is a joy to talk to thank you so much for joining us on the program they say has seen it will see me this week thank you season season King Matt and of course you can read more in the paper some south. Facing. Such. Identifying places on it. And on days just so I can catch a good music program old place something I want to hear you're listening to. Right. Talk energy bills now a hot topic of conversation especially is the winter night stroll rain now Danny was asking Alya Are you sure you're paying a fair price for your gas and electricity at home a couple weeks ago one of our listeners this is Brenda from Crawley told Danny pike this site only because. I have been there. I met her and. I go. Because. You're aware there is an energy market why are you not involved in it because I have heard that you could only get to me if. I'm not sure I know. Ok Well since then we've contacted her supplier and Danny spoke to Brenda again this morning they actually have been interested me through your program and they've been excellent absolutely excellent What position are you currently in then you want to good tariff you happy with what you're paying. I'm very low it's one that squashes power do they could size. And to increase in credits or rather less money how much are in credit for maybe $500.00 pounds that's why I'm going to hang it they got $500.00 quid of your money that could be in your bank earning you probably very little interest but it ended a sure money should be in your bank with the bass amp and they had nearly 700 you're on stage that's about it when they told you that how do you do that because 5 or 700 pounds in your position up it goes quite a long way doesn't it. Grandchildren I have and Christmas is coming you know everybody would be well pleased with $500.00 pounds well Danny are still fielding the coupon queen for her reaction to Brenda situation from for Brenda I think it's a pity. That she hasn't been able to get more information earlier and only really got information as a result of coming on your show and the other thing it's about knowledge Brenda's leaving 5 months worth of power behind because on average the average person in the u.k. Spends $100.00 pounds a month on their energy supply now that already is an overpayment which we can talk about in a 2nd but if Brenda is leaving $500.00 pounds behind her Scottish Power She's got 5 months of spare Christian gas up a slave so Actually Brenda are probably advise you to take half an hour of so you know put $250.00 quid towards the Christmas and the grandchildren and then that still if you 250 pounds for Scottish Power which is about 2 and a half months that will see through the winter Brenda is only been speaking to Scottish Power Is that a good idea or a bad idea it's a bad idea the more you know the more people you speak to the better deal you will get and unfortunately what happens in the u.k. Is that the average person pays about 100 pounds per month on their energy what they should be paying is about 70 pounds per month so there's about a 30 pounds per month penalty for not being aware of what you've got all of that 30 pounds that most people are overpaying 22 pounds of that is because they're on the wrong right and it's because they're on the with the wrong supplier Scottish Power is one of the big 6 we hear but there are many more smaller companies entering the energy market it's always so confusing it's the same bit of wire or the same pipe that brings the gas to your house yet your bill can come from any number of different companies couldn't it absolutely I mean the smaller players if we ignore the big 6 for the moment the smaller players are more came to get your business they're keen to grow they're using the same pipes and. Anyone else if you switch to perhaps a smaller supply because the smaller suppliers do overall come out cheaper it takes an average of 17 days. Switch your supplier you do all the work so you don't have to do anything so again with Brenda she said I'm not sure I'd know all the information I need while the supplier who wants their business will do all the work for you brand or they'll they'll find out. Information for.
