Sorry back tomorrow morning from 6. First sorry and ne Hampshire b.b.c. Sorry with Danny Pinelake. 40 minutes to midday and my next guest on the show today is comedian David Baddiel who's going out on tour again in the new year 52 date saw 6 of them in our area and then if you see his previous stand up shows when you return to stand up comedy half a dozen years ago he did fame not the musical he did my family not the sick com in 2016 so it's been a while so regulars here like every 3 years with a new show got a new show now David Baddiel joins us good morning David. Or you know 2nd that's quite ominous. Are you David is down here good morning Danny how are you how you are in our system somewhere found you that I was just saying about your last 2 tours fame not music or my family not the sit com I think I saw my family at the change in Brighton and you're back with a new tour next year tell us about it well it's called trolls not the dolls are stuck with the not yet brand that's more brand. Trolls not that old is a show sort of a bow it's really about rage and anger and what with the way we live now on social media but that spread out in my opinion from social media to affect the whole of the body politic thought of a better word or the whole way we talk to each other and the way that we vote and think whatever but also I've been on Twitter particularly since 2009 and was noted because I've written because I'm addicted to it clearly written something on it like 5 times a day since then it's a whole Dari both the world and what I think about it so you know I can do stuff based on things I wrote on Twitter about bricks and Trump and he Semitism whatever it might be but I've also got lots of stuff that I've written about growing old white children and you know tiny little things I've written about my life on there and then I've got this other thing which is people shouting and screaming at me about that I try and be funny with because I've always felt the trolls are essentially hecklers and hecklers my job is to try and put them down as funny as well as I can so it's really about that it's about how my Twitter feed charts my thinking in my life over the last 10 years and how people have got very angry about it and what you can do about that that's quite interesting reaction you know trying to get laughs out of somebody who's being really oftentimes very offensive to you but yeah that does any of that land with you does any at cause you personal hurt because that is the issue I think a lot of people have with that piece on Twitter Yeah well the truth is No 2 I talk a lot about that the truth is what I'm generally think is for a 2nd and then I think our material. And that's good for me as a comedian because it's actually a way of generating material but also a way of fixing the psychological wound because actually the minute I can see a joke in it I'm not hurt by anymore it's a really weird thing I genuinely don't feel bad about anymore and I'm slightly grateful to get all that that's a weird thing and also you know everyone can do that and everyone will even want to do that unless we want to ignore them with the don't feed the trolls thing but I I don't and also I do feel in a launch a point personally we can't ignore them we can't ignore trolls because they really have had an impact one of them is in the White House that if you noticed and I did he probably can't say yes to that because you were the b.b.c. But anyway there they they really have like changed the whole way the whole discourse of politics and culture or whatever and I think just ignore them doesn't work anymore my attitude is just make fun of it. What you would have to say that Travis summer stuff that he says on Twitter is quite extraordinary for an American president to say isn't it what have you made of his general way that he's going back to the presidency then well I honestly do think that about him and I say you don't have to agree with this but I honestly think he is the troll president you know it's not just because of the way that he you know is on Twitter but also because you know he has completely confirmed the idea that you can be angry you can have extremely simple and binary opinions you can abuse people you can be a conspiracy theorist and you can be at the center of power you know that doesn't make you as it used to make you some tiny little bloke shouting into the ether you all right at the center of power and so that's a massive change in our culture in a very short time so you've got your way of dealing with it which seems like a perfect fix really because that the more angry people are you the more material you get. The other people there might be people listening out the radio saying well if you don't like it all just get off Twitter what would you like me possible without Twitter and I know you're addicted to it like it would be possible certainly could mean how you so could you were yes but could you wean yourself off it that's a really good question I talk about my what I think is my addiction to it when everyone's addiction to it not Twitter but social media in general in the show I think I don't know I mean I do say why am I on this when I look at some of the darker points of it and you know there's definitely lots of sort of like not necessary great reasons I think I have a slightly narcissistic comedians need to have an audience at all times which it gives me I like to be able to be able to feel I'm contributing to the national conversation all that stuff and I generally do like to sort of own trolls I also by the way. The great things about Twitter and the show completely says you know it's not all bad and there's lots of brilliant joyful stuff on it as well from my point of view if I think of a joke I don't always have the ability to just do that Joe I can't create an audience out of nothing except online I can't you know and that's a really weird thing for a comedian it's like because Jen. And if you're comedian you'll lot your head does think of jokes. But you have an outlet for it and you kind of trolls not the dolls but also when you get my family not the sitcom it. Takes is also different places as well so it's not just that sort of one theme it gives you. Know just point about and I talk about loads of things in the show and it's actually my most political show but not from a particular political standpoint but also it still finds ways not quite as much as a lot of it to be emotional and to talk about my reaction and to talk about you know how it still has some quite poignant moving moments and I think yes there is not just and here's some funny things I said to trolls although it's a bit of a. Look forward to it thanks david see you in The New Yorker about that thanks a lot for to it Jay It's very nice the speech of David Baddiel then trolls not the dolls that the 3rd in the trilogy of the not the show's coming to the talking holes on fed me the 2nd. Assembly Hall February 8th the new Victoria theater working on February 27th. In March on the 21st Brighton on March the 26th and the prince's hole in all shots on April the 4th David. Cracked and rosy Neil Diamond's time off the 12th and into Allison ferns it's Mark Karr to how you doing out I'm very well thank you Danny Yeah we're going to talk about the theft of some 50000000 pounds of the Joey from a property belonging to Tamara Ecclestone now for the majority of us that figure is completely incomprehensible but we do want the soft in about an item of jury that is particularly sentimental to you and often those items not necessarily even have significant monetary value it's also tell me about your treasured items on the softening usual way to get in touch oh so this is a bit of a long shot but with throwing this one out ever so often and has a celebrity ever come to your rescue I mean if you've heard about any goading she's in the news today for helping a little Driver Yeah being pushed sideways by this Roma lorry in west London so we're looking praise for those examples of where just maybe a celebrity has come to your rescue so we talk about that as well. Can't say I've that's ever happened to me but I waiting for the moment when that does somebody well that's fine you know it could still happen we all still can whine softening Danny talking Christmas-Y. And frankly I think if you're like me you just go to the bottom by a bucket in the in the supermarket and you get whatever is given there out there are some tips around so we do that the soft and and continuing our series as well looking at the challenges facing so-called blended families or on the way off thanks Marc we'll see in a few minutes time in for our some ferns after midday so yes got covered a lot of ground this morning reflect on what we've had today weekday mornings from 9 pm. We started off talking about last night's t.v. Drama responsible child based on the true story of a sorry 12 year old jailed for the manslaughter of his step father we heard from the right Nick Holt we always wanted to achieve that you could view. Things from the perspective of a child which is a very difficult thing to do with the courts we don't do that when you're looking at children particularly intuitions like this context is very very important and I think we just wanted to take the audience in the story like character and to see the world as he saw it and see the forces that played programs on the I played can't see it responsible child Louise gave us a call after that but 12 year old son play what should not last night but. It's very difficult watching it and thinking well my son now it's wrong for right but he's in a completely different life and a lot of the children stay in that position have been styled by the system I think also on the program we spoke to Mackenzie Crook who told us about a new version of Worzel Gummidge coming to our street screens on Boxing Day and the day after he wrote it he directed it and he stars in it my age one age my feet are another. Huge would scare growth what I'm going to meet your goals for birthdays I can see why you jump out he fell for the character as I did he's just such a to. Charming and irreverent character and one that you want to be your friend McKenzie told me about some of the big names He'll be joined by We've got brilliant cost we got some Michael Paine in playing the green man who's old version of what was the chrome and in the old series got to keep happening playing Aunt Sally and we want to make a playing Lady blooms repassed and yet we've got a great cast should be quite something you can see Mackenzie Crook Worzel Gummidge b.b.c. One Boxing Day 6 20 in the evening and the day after Friday 27th of December at 7 pm a bit of reaction to Worzel Gummidge still says I loved Worzel Gummidge I've still kept the books so you'll be looking for seeing that then Jill thank you very much and email from Brenda Lee thanks for this Brenda she says I think it's great that words all is coming back to entertain a new generation my son was born in 1974 obviously like the program very much as it influenced a fancy dress costume that he made in 2010 it's quite a long time between $974.20 tend to be wearing words of it anyway Brenda goes on he was also in the t.v. Era of Star Wars The Hulk Spiderman except I think it was a great period of time for kids as t.v. To them was a fun thing so maybe words will come attract some of the modern children away from their phones and tablets and maintain some of their childhood for a bit longer but maybe not today age of 45 says Brenda with. Great thank you for all that thanks for listening back tomorrow morning at 9 marks here after the news . First sorry in ne Hampshire on f.m. Online digital radio and smart Speaker this is b.b.c. Sorry. I. Thank It's midday I'm good afternoon. Boris Johnson's addressed his cabinet for the 1st time since the election telling them the voters had changed the government and his party for the better he said it's now time to repay people's trust we should have absolutely no embarrassment about saying that we are a people's government and this is a people's cabinet and we are going to be working to deliver on the priorities of the British people the 1st 100 days were very busy 140 days whatever it was you may remember was a very frenetic tide but you ain't seen nothing yet folks. His comments come as Downing Street disclose that the government has to pass a law to prevent M.P.'s extending the Bracks a transition period beyond the end of 2020 Labor have criticised the plan saying it raises the chances of Britain leaving the the end of next year without a trade deal West Sussex County Council should be stripped of its children's services because of a white a corporate.
