Suggests there will be a conservative majority 86 Stay with us for all the results throughout the night that's the b.b.c. Needs absolutely minutes past 10. B.b.c. Weather with cold cuts and well after that very wet saving the rain is just about out of the way but it's followed by a number of showers and those can be quite heavy especially in Pan areas lows of 3 or 4 degrees as for tomorrow Well much of Yorkshire in Lincolnshire fine with some sunshine However scattered showers will affect parts of South Yorkshire and lights out West Yorkshire but certainly further east it's a fine bright and breezy day with sunshine and highs of 7 or 8 degrees. In. Brussels. B.b.c. Radio new. Kind of very good evening to you will come along it's Russell walk with your late night friend of course as always here with The Late Show a little different tonight for obvious reason of course reflecting the sort of developing election picture from now until 1 o'clock in the morning and then full live in local coverage where across Yorkshire we have full live and local coverage down the New York street not will be from 1 o'clock so I'll just repeat the reporters all over parts of the world will be talking to them I think the fingers crossed we're talking to Liz Roberts Our political reporter in Sheffield b.b.c. Radio Sheffield be talking to her in a few moments talking to Kevin Larkin as well the b.b.c. Radio Leeds political reporter and Gemma b.b.c. Radio York and I should b.b.c. Radio Leeds just to repeat then the breaking news in the last 5 minutes about the exit poll tonight according to the survey taken to polling stations conservative set to win an overall majority of $86.00 according to the exit poll for the b.b.c. I.t.v. And Sky Labor full castigate $191.00 the Lib Dems 13 the brig's it Party non and the s.n.p. 50. 5 So the one thing you know is the right now reaction starting to build the full picture as we head through to. boys names in Greece with the dodo. So the responses and reactions continuing to come in to the exit poll of course the exit. Well we're now waiting for the the tallies to be counted in the votes to be counted and we here on The Late Show and through the night we have reporters all over where the counts are actually taking place and bringing us the results as soon as they happen but the reporters of course being consummate professionals are in position as we speak with enough calories to get them through the night and we'll be catching up with as many of them as we possibly can we begin with Liz Roberts political reporter here b.b.c. Radio Sheffield who is in Sheffield forces even green and Liz Good evening Russell Good evening so the exit poll has come out it certainly sounds busy behind you what's the scene at the moment Yeah well there are 6 constituencies counting here at the English Institute of Sport and that's a clip of Sheffield those constituencies. Sheffield brought side in Hillsborough Sheffield Hallam Sheffield south east Sheffield central Sheffield Healy and Penn Astin and stocks bridge. There I would say personally there are 2 possible changes that are going to happen tonight of course there's always a chance there could be more but the 2 that we've really got our eye on opposite in stocks bridge and Sheffield Hallam a bit about the the history of those states 1 May be fairly familiar to people might have been following the story of the labor and then independent m.p. Jarrett a moderate he is the judge who toppled in the Clegg from the Sheffield Hallam seat in 2070 much to a lot of people's surprise including his own but he's got a very difficult tenure as the m.p. . A lot of problems mental health issues he's been away from work for a lot of the time he left the Labor Party became an independent and closed his constituency office he's barely voted in tolerance and he hasn't really done a lot of representing of local people. So it's very much expected that the Liberal Democrats who've had their own eye on this seat ever since labor to be formed in $270.00 will gain the box simply because. They haven't really done the people of Sheffield Hallam any favors in selecting Jarrett and moderate and the experience they've had in the last 2 and a half years it's worth mentioning as well for like Sheffield Hallam you look at it as a seat and it's stunning for labor. For the Liberal Democrats the only requires it is quite short majorities of just over 2000 maybe a 1.9 percent swing is what it will take I mean when you've been talking to the candidates you've been following them throughout this campaign what is there a high degree of confidence among the liberals that they that they can get this back I think there is Laura Gordon has been the prospective candidates almost. Almost as soon as. Nick Clegg kind of left the area to be honest with you I think the Lib Dems knew that you know there was always the chance of another snap election they wanted to get somebody in the has been more than 2 years and she's been you know doing a lot of work for local people in general De Mars absence so she certainly known in the area that said Olivia Blake has been a Sheffield councillor for some time and she was the deputy leader of the council as well for a while although she did resign from the position. Because of a. Sort of local route over the way that the way that Sheffield city council is Rome so she stepped down to support a campaign to change the way decisions are made city council she is still a council and Labor has been working quite hard since the election was called to try and secure all that seat but I think perhaps the Lib Dems have been working a bit harder for longer and there there is a very strongly vote in that. All the counselors alleged them counselors so like I say I think although there has been a lot of dissatisfaction with the level Democrats in falls of Sheffield particularly with Nick Clegg going into the coalition and the way they voted with the Tories on on a number of number of policies I suspect in this particular constituency which is one of the more affluent in Sheffield I think it's very likely the Lib Dems will take it back it's also remain seat remember and the Lib Dems are the main party so 60 percent of people voted remain one of only 2 remain seats in the Sheffield area so. I don't want to say for definite because you know I could have egg on my face but. As of this morning it is certainly one of the ones that we're expecting to change the other one being punished and stocks bridge which is incredibly close is that this is even less than less of a majority this is about 1300 is not yet it's very close it's always been a relatively close race between the Conservatives and Labor but Labor have always come through although it is quite a young constituency a memory exam got written down in front of me actually I believe it was created in 2010. So it's not you can't look back in the annals of times to say Oh it's always been solid this one way or the other because it was subject to boundary changes and and was created relatively recently but it has been Labor Angela Smith was the m.p. But it was a direct voting constituency and Angela Smith was very much a remain and in the end she decided to jump ship she went to change u.k. Or the independent group which became change u.k. She then became independent herself and eventually became a liberal Democrat so if a new m.p. Only party is elected this evening if either the top. Raise all the greens all the . Elected then it will be less of a thing Labor change u.k. . For for sort of version of a. Car if you like that the constituencies have justice here. Is the spice of life Liz Yes well quite I mentioned greens there but actually the not standing up constituency of his look to get there's only 4 candidates Labor Liberal Democrats. And Conservative Party so it's being close between labor in the Conservatives it's highly likely that the conservatives will take that seat for the 1st time I think given what we just heard about the exit poll that sounding even more likely to be honest with you now it's a busy evening going to be ahead when you expect in the 1st result there in Sheffield because I don't think you're going to be some Dylan the Newcastle really don't know where they go I think. I want I want to be optimistic and say sort of $33.00. There it there are so many constituencies that. In the past although obviously it's a different time of year now they've had slightly lower century central in particular which means they tend to get counted a little bit quicker doesn't mean to say that I won't be here till. You know when when everyone's getting up in their breakfast because the 63 remember they all close then obviously we can we could be looking recounts but I'm hoping the 1st results will result possibly through 3 cities and you know it's been lovely to. Have from the scene. Political reporter a b.b.c. Radio Sheffield I mean a Chance who is down there a couple of seats are really keeping an eagle. Coming up soon will be talking to our political reporters b.b.c. Radio Leeds and b.b.c. Radio show. Says. The Late Show in the Russell Warchus Ovi catching up without a political reporter Kevin locking from b.b.c. Radio Leeds he is at the council in Wakefield the sequencer catching up with him in a moment I must say a quick hello has all the showbusiness caddies omnia and I must say thank you to Jean Molly and Milo for sending me another filthy joke I couldn't possibly use but you know it's it's fighting a smile of my face thank you very much for that and you did get your Christmas card which is nice I to rock it and sue it York tonight sent me a lovely picture of and put down the Facebook page as well which is lovely and I'm glad you liked your extra little special something that we put in the cards. So when you look at the ace you can have it that Facebook dot com slash like night Russell politics to cover the boys in the seconds about 20 past b.b.c. Long as. The bowling. Long as. The be long Solenn. Reactions and responses from a political reporters across Yorkshire and. We had a chat with Liz Roberts Radio Sheffield political reporter about 10 minutes ago let's have a chat to one of the b.b.c. Radio Leeds political reporters Kevin lucky easy in Wakefield for us tonight good evening Kevin Good evening Ross now I have to say it sounds like there's a general. Behind you if that is in fact the right word it's still too early to say I'm guessing not many people in attendance just yet not yet know at the post office are being counted and ballot boxes haven't arrived just at this moment in time. Expecting those in the next few minutes here. A few people arrive from the various parties but not many office of the big names in the Wakefield. Area of course last time the 3 seats which are being counted here in Wakefield tonight all labor as Mary crane Wakefield effect Cooper in Normanton points back to Castleford and John Trickett in Hemsworth none of them are here as yet I'm sure they're getting ready to come down later on if this opinion poll is correct there could be some big changes here in the Wakefield area but West Yorkshire is well known for its marginals we've got 22 seats in total and a lot of those tend to go back and forth so we could see changes outside of Wakefield district in other parts of the county as well you know well just having a look and speculation coming in in terms of which seats have been likely. Gains or labor holds and labor gains and Wakefield as a seat is pictures a big they say on the b.b.c. Election special in a likely conservative gain I mean it has been a fantastically tight race there hasn't. Absolutely and I think the u.k. Of m.r.p. Opinion polls which to try and analyze things by constituency level or to have happened during the campaign both have predicted that Wakefield would go conservative but it hasn't been necessarily a smooth campaign for the conservatives in Wakefield their original counted and had to step down after some Facebook posts emerged and he was replaced with a conservative candidate who is standing tonight in Iran Ahmed car who literally parachuted into the city actually got in a plane went up there and jumped out in a parachute when he was announced as the candidate here so certainly a bit of a character but of course Mary Craig is one of Labour's big hitters she's chaired the environmental audit committee for a number of years now and is well known within the party Ok so I mean you all are constantly speaking to candidates across West Yorkshire this has be they say one of the tightest elections to call I mean you must have had so many different candidates and so many advisors giving you their versions of what's going on Has everybody gone Simon to the moment or your phone buzzin Kevin. A bit of both I haven't spoken to anyone directly since the exit poll came out but it was very old Ross in the sense of the direction seemed to be pointing towards this exit poll forecast you know lots of conservatives were telling me that they were doing much much better in places that they'd never done well before particularly in places like council estates and so on. But then they. Think that Labor people were also saying it was tough going but there seemed to be a bit of a 2017 memory there and the conservatives didn't want to get overconfident and the conservatives were very nervous so it seems about smooth that way but I did speak to one labor staffer. Yesterday who said to me that they don't necessarily believe it was at the root of the switch to the conservative base had for every vote they were losing to the conservatives because they were losing 3 or 4 to have a conservative because of Jeremy Corbett they were saying it was more of a leadership issue than a breakfast issue I see it now we expect the sort of results probably around 3 o'clock in the morning where you are Kevin. I hope so but you tend to be a bit late I think I think they came in about 5 am I mean I'll be honest I'm hoping that it's 3 am if not sooner. And Bill Tush of all political reports this please don't let that be a recount exactly Well listen we'll talk to you a little bit later on as the picture becomes a much clearer after midnight were to thank you very much says Kevin Larkin one of the political reporters of b.b.c. Radio Leeds will be turning our attention to North Yorkshire having a catch up with Gemma Dillon who is the political reporter b.b.c. Radio York have a look at the scene across North Yorkshire She is live in York for us and we're doing that very very soon good tunes on the way as well tonight it's not just all election you know talking heads in a 2nd grace you don't own me here it's your nature. For love. had Michael him speeding Pulitzers must be at least 12 years ago thinking about it but Michael will be here very soon when crossing over to your political reporter then live very soon just a reminder if you just switched on it's me till 1 o'clock and the exit poll if you haven't seen it the b.b.c. I.t.v. And Sky News exit poll predicts a Conservative majority of 86 in the election suggest the conservatives are going 50 seats aiming to have about $368.00 M.P.'s Labor would lose $71.00 to have $191.00 M.P.'s at the s.n.p. Predicted expected to advance strongly in Scotland with 55 M.P.'s and according to a professor John Curtis the appalling expert Lib Dems appear to be heading for disappointing night he says exit policy also says the Briggs it taught unlikely to win any seats the local picture continues head to b.b.c. Radio York's Jemma political reporter in a couple of seconds after Grayson you don't own me a b.b.c. Radio York. Dollars a week. That says. You dollars eat. I'll say x. . Dollars. Downside. Here dollars meet. Down. That's. a cool Sultans of Swing as we head on up to 11 o'clock when the Russell walk on the Late Show so continuing to get the picture across tonight early reactions to the exit poll as well as have a chat with Gemma Dillon the b.b.c. Radio York political reporter joins as from energize I believe it is tonight Gemma is not the case. It is yes I've just had to resist the temptation to go to the gym and do a quick workout but yes you are energized again for the count the state counts taking place in the York outer and York Central Ok Now which one are you keeping a very close eye on tonight because it's it's quite. Aside from York Central is as I recall York the North Yorkshire in general ease is quite blue in nature. It is indeed most of North Yorkshire is play home to some of the se faced conservative states in the country they have all have quite sizable majority however there are 3 that we've been thanks spectating to keep an eye on tonight one is our guests and as for the other is your county Why because they form part of the remain alliance this is the deal that was John the Green Party stood aside. And that was an attempt to try and consolidate the remain vote so your cow to the Liberal Democrats have heavily campaigned he is sending out quite a lot of campaign literature to try and push forward here now I've already spoken to feel a barrage of if they were hoping to retain they were hoping to win your house are they you said they were the only ones to defeat the Conservative Party here now in light of that I'd sleep all in I suspect what they've been hearing and seeing on the ground today then they're hoping that they will still remain in 2nd place so I think they've they've almost given up hope of taking you out there and he I think puts the potential. Failure is the strongest weapon the potential failure to achieve the seat all the putting it down to any reason in particular because they've they've been working very very hard in that constituency. Well I think at the moment it's a bit of a blur for them the still trying to get their heads around what appears to be quite a sizable majority certainly in light of recent general elections we've had the exit polls predicting a big majority for the conservatives No Dick grab Rachel Murphy girl who has been the York Central m.p. Since 2015 for a quick chat she said she's very disappointed very worried about what a conservative majority could mean for people in New York for the country she says there's a lot of complicated fact is that the party have to work through they have to listen to what the electorate are telling us now after 3 or 4 telling. About Jeremy Corbyn how long he could stay as leader she wouldn't be drawn on it she wouldn't say he needs to be out tomorrow and she says Jeremy will have to review everything in South have a real look at what the issues are combat fighting although when I then pushed her again she said in the longer term we will have to have a look at what leadership looks like so you know I think you can almost feel the force is gathering Ok well we'll leave it there thank you very much nice to talk to that Gemma Gemma Dillon our political reporter b.b.c. Radio York just keeping an eye on the the events of the evening and as always as he when he gets it to this day we've had plenty of these over the last 5 years generally the Northeast will get the the counting underway so you already get those kind of the 1st they'll do they so you tend to get those pictures of people younger than I carry in the ballot boxes in the boxes if you take running. Running into leisure centers across the northeast trying to get out in front and to do this in the book has been arriving currently but it's been tallied we've seen pictures on Twitter and on the news from Sunderland Chesterfield Holly pull seen as well. Sunderland always likely to be 1st will they do it this time if so he's extraordinarily fast counting if you think about it 1st result by 11 that's all they're hoping for in Sunderland they always like to be 1st outing last time when they did they just just picked to it from Newcastle so we'll have to wait and see and response already and of course to only way to the exit poll of the moment 1st bitter reaction that's coming from Briggs it Pati you remember they they didn't run in seats the conservatives won in $27.00 t. And made repeated appeals to labor leave as chairman of the bar exam Party Richard Tice to Eton that the Briggs it Party clearly played a massive role emerge using labor votes and seats the changing the course of political history so that's the chairman of the Briggs it Party Richard Tice with his initial responses to it to keep our eyes peeled and cross over to Keithley to our political reporter looking forward to this all sorts of reporters everywhere . Will be with us from b.b.c. Radio Leeds in about 5 minutes time we'll get the lowdown for what's happening in Keathley. Lots of wonderful music to me in the latest headline. Every Golding in River City fat erotica save another is the election result of a good tonight it is a ghost the 12th of December which means that some Christmas cheer and as we head on through to 1 o'clock in a moment I will be heading to talk to a Bradford political reporter well some fascinating fascinating potential stories coming out so I'm looking forward to it here in a few of those Malcolm who's in Keathley say not only is give me the latest details my friend that will be with us before too long I also want to say hi to moderates in Huddersfield they'd see this is the normal business continues thank you very much for the Christmas card that is absolutely fine Sue in Keathley also got one of our Late Show Christmas cards. Nice to know they got 3 and plenty of time. Just made the last post. After the summer yet it should have outlived its meaning in the Palm Beach time. Some of these double. Bands poling going to go bowling. You know a minute. For the song I don't see. Coming out of the show as Pope John. Paul 2 should please. Go But long story and song. With song. We're. Supposed. To. Check out Guitar Joe. Cole. But it's tricky with musicals alone because crime 6. Weeks. Is all you can. Really adds up under the lights of a big. Military doesn't. Seem. He's got a. Story. Smooth it out right. With the sounds of. The song with sleep. So. We've got some possibly. Starts in Sultans of Swing a light show. Thing when done in John Ford Coley I'll be playing that for you in a few seconds heading up to the headlines with Michael Anderson he'll be here at 11 o'clock and the weather is cool us with television's man of action pole Hudson little Soviet to. B.b.c. Radio. So. He with the late shows always catching up with political reporters across parts of the world Yorkshire north after 11 will be talking to reporters who was in bonds before was talking to our reporter Charles has letting West Yorkshire and Jenny in Northeast dog show continuing the sentencing is cross crossing to our gate right Nell though let's go to Keithley. B.b.c. Radio Leeds political reporter is therefore is a very good evening I. Good evening Russell from the leisure center key fleet leisure center I believe you're on the viewing platform it sounds lovely. Yes I'm overlooking the school so we've got a viewing Bridgette it's busy busy the count is already already counting the postal votes so we're still waiting for the ballot boxes to arrive obviously the polls have only closed in the last hour or so it's about going to take a piece of time for us so not Radford could provide some general election surprises we think 3 of them could come from right here because we've got the Keathley and ship recounts happening here the close this race was it is expected to be in Keathley which is one of the tightest marginals in the country in fact and was snatched by Labor's John Grogan by just 249 votes it went to 70 from the conservatives and it has traditionally Clicquot between the 2 main parties and the latest predictions are that it's on a knife edge of absolute my page again down to about one percent between Mr Grogan and to the conservative candidate will be more now Robbie more conservative county council I think from Northumberland business and and has been active in politics in the Northeast but I mean it like you say such a slim majority I think they say are a required swing is not point 2 percent. It's ridiculous isn't it interesting the this is this is a bellwether see as well but for now that word might come up again and again through the night essentially Traditionally it's indicated what the national result overall is going to be it sets in 27 c. When it went the other way or not interesting to the Gregs it Party also could have a candidate a guy could walk past and they come about he's been largely absent from hustings events and his campaigns actually been quite locate the most have got the Greens and not getting a candidate in case we as well so we do want to get these factors pretty important in the final results of the constituency also includes affluent outlying areas like Opie and Howard in that it's boundaries which are traditional. More conservative than the Katie Townsend to tend to be in labor hotlines and important to remember the people voted 53 percent believe in that new record and in the run up to the election nights we are going to be visits to convey the very of what's that like a treat in the town and this mantra the convicted mantra of I'm good but that don't seem to come up a good answer but might be interesting Ok now I understand as well because obviously the kind of the city you keep your ear to the ground not just a geeky but across the political scene across Bradford and the environment here interesting things potentially Is that true coming out of Bradford south the Cif name. I think so in about the South covered held by Judith coming from labor she's got a majority of fixed $1700.00 It's a historic neighborhood stronghold both of the 1945 but it definitely could grow up as the Far East interestingly it's one of the target seats for the conservatives nationally as part of a strategy to win I wouldn't be voting Labor supports is this going to be important to get the constituency both to fix the weaknesses in the in the in the referendum we have to wait and see the other one to watch out for by the way Russell Shipley it will be counted here since our party held by to we've all been great that's the Phillip Davis people touching a majority for both in 600 but it is being touted by some observers as one of those potential top 7 tactical voting or votes to go boating to weld it in here a lot in the last 3 days as well excellent thank you very much for the initial picture the scene. B.b.c. Political reporter Bradford lovely to hear from. Continued response reaction predictions on what's next the reporters are eating after 11 here on your b.b.c. . It's been a. Not. Like . Just told. To. Get to. Explain such a goal to. The bolts Joe Lacob. The be unable to see. The ball. Long and prove it. Takes. Place to. really love to see you tonight. Joel that solves a way is really love that song and I don't know why I just think it's such a beautifully written piece of work coming up then to Barnsley to Huddersfield to her gate and to our Porta Johnny coke in ne Darbyshire here with me Russell Walker the late night friend it's time for the new. Thing I am. Busy. Getting on Michael Anderson it looks like the Conservatives will win a large majority in the general election counting is now underway across Yorkshire the exit polls suggest the conservatives will gain around 50 seats here's the B.B.C.'s political editor Laura Coombs breast Johnson who just a year ago was on the backbenches may just have redrawn the map on these figures he would have clear backing of the green benches behind him to take us out of the European Union next month a mentor junction for our country but it would also mean another 5 years of Conservative rule with a solid majority behind him home secretary pretty Patel says if the poll is accurate the conservatives will waste no time in putting their election policies into effect will not turn around obviously we've indicated previously as well that if we get a function in which our sick conservative function a majority in parliament we want to move things forward that means getting breaks its all have in the legislation space that we can actually start to introduce legislation and bills and Paula the figures suggest Labor that was heading for its 4th consecutive general election defeat and its worst in terms of seats since 1935 down 712191 Labor shadow chancellor John McDonald says it looks extremely disappointing so it would be closer thing most people thought the polls were now rowing I mean it would be tough because. Dominated this relation has dominated everything we thought other issues could cut through and there be a wider debate from this evidence that clearly wasn't one of the Labor seats at risk in Yorkshire is Wakefield which until the election was represented by the high profile Labor m.p. Mary Cray our political reporter in Wakefield says a Labor source has told him Mary Cray is doomed in that seat it could also be touch and go for other high profile Labor M.P.'s like Yvette Cooper Normanton palm diffract and council for Labour's York's central candidate Rachel Maskell says it's too early to say what Jeremy Corbyn should do that I think he's going to have to if you everything himself no rash decision should take place at this moment I think we have to 1st of all say what the issues and we've got to come back fighting because people in this country deserve a Labor Government the s.n.p. Appears to have done well the Lib Dems are forecast to have won 13 seats that's one and it suggested the BRICs it Party there have failed to win any seats results in Yorkshire will start coming in after midnight we've got reports that counts around the region and you can find out the results where you are on the b.b.c. News website as well a reminder of that main headline and the exit poll for the main broadcasters suggests the conservatives will win the election with a majority of 86 b.b.c. News it's just coming up to 3 minutes past 11. B.b.c. Weather we've had San Well after that very wet evening the rain is just about out of the way but it's followed by a number of showers and those could be quite heavy especially in pen areas lows of 3 or 4 degrees as for tomorrow Well much of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire fine with some sunshine However scattered showers will affect parts of South Yorkshire and later out West Yorkshire but certainly further east it's a fine bright and breezy day with sunshine and highs of 7 or 8 degrees lovely in.
